He will do his absolute best to help you understand, and cares very much if the whole class understands or not. You can instantly tell that he's passionate about teaching and math (he gets goosebumps). Very nice. Easy quizzes.

He is the best math teacher i have ever had. He tries to relate weird math formulas to everyday things, and he really cares if everyone is understanding. Not alot of h/w, practice tests before quizzes & exams. Even willing to help you in his office while hes trying to eat. Very nice guy.

Absolutely the best math teacher, if not best teacher period, I've ever had. I hate math and he made it so accessible and understandable for me. He loves teaching, cares about his students and it shows. If you have trouble with math take him. He's also just a wonderful human being.

He is the best Math Teacher I have ever had. I don't think math comes naturally to him as is does to lots of other teachers. But that makes him very effective in breaking down concepts. I left 110 so well prepared. When I got to 120 I was scoreing highest in this class on everything. He is awesome.

I took Mr. Magee for all three of my math classes at DVC. I took all online classes. If you can handle online, he is the BEST for it. I am HORRIABLE at math but passed every class and even got a B! He takes time to make sure you understand and is always reachable. definitly the BEST math teacher EVER!

I wish this guy could teach every math class at DVC. He actually cares about you, and wants you to do well. He made me love math. He is one of those teachers you want to buy a gift for at the end of the semester.

Mr. Magee is hands down awesome. He does his best to keep you up to pace, but that is really up to you. Great on-line teacher, always willing to help, gives test review that will guide you right through the test.

The most helpful teacher I've ever had. Goes completely out of his way to help you pass the class. Lets you have a whole sheet of paper front and back for notes. HW is easy and very helpful. I can't get over how helpful he was!! Wish I could take him for Statistics! 135% recommend him to everyone!!

i HATE math....and he's the opnly teacher since high school thats gotten me through it. EXTREMELY helpful, friendly and has a realy passion for the subject. All this tests come with a practice that pretty much help you ace the exams! if you struggle with math...TAKE HIM he's awesome

Did you ever have a teacher that loved to teach so much you could feel it? That's him. Took online, most struggled, me A. He always helped. Emailed groups with help, reopened topics, and gave study sheets. On tests you could bring one sheet notes. He works the lab a lot and emails you all the time about when he will be there. GREAT TEACHER!

After enrolling and withdrawing from this class in Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 with other instructors and taking the class at a different JC and failing I enrolled this past Fall (2010) and Passes! Prof Magee is great, he is patient, inspiring, considerate and supportive. I recommend his class to anyone!!!

Mr Magee is without a doubt the best math teacher I have ever had. You will not find anyone as passionate about teaching and math as he is and I would recommend his class to anyone. If you are worried about precalc, don't be! He makes this class very manageable and out of 35? students, only 2-3 dropped the class. He is an incredible teacher.

I took this online (6 wk summer course). It was INTENSE, 1-3 assignments due EVERY night @ midnight. BUT, he is VERY caring, understanding and truly wants each student to succeed! He is available night or day by e-mail and answers ALL of your questions. 2 midterms (1 8x11 sheet of notes) and 1 cumulative final exam (2 sheets of notes allowed!).

He is a great teacher overall. First off he is very kind. In his pre-calc class he explains concepts and problems and detail and will go over them if you don't understand. He has office hours and can help you there. Homework load is average and there are a good number of tests, but they are all relative to what he taught. He also goes over them.

The best math teacher i've ever had. I cheated my last two math classes and got lucky placing into pre-cal straight out of high school. With his great teaching and a lot of effort to study, i passed. I owe it all to magee

Mr. Magee is by far the best math instructor I have ever had. I was fortunate enough to have him for both Math 135 and 181 and received A's in both classes. He works in the Math Lab 2 days a week and encourages his students to come in during those days. He is very thorough when it comes to explaining concepts and lecturing-very easy to follow!

Explain material and complicated concept very well.Tests are easy as long as you do the homeworks and do the practice problem that he gives. Willing to help students to succeed in math,and always share his funny life stories with us. Highly recommend!

He is extremely passionate teacher who really cares about students and not just going through the materials. He will do his best to ensure the class understands the materials. He is very fair, curves the tests and offer help at any time. His tests are kinda tricky but he does a lot of reviews to help prepare for all the tests. Highly Recommend him

Exceptional teacher. Very helpful in his online class. If you email him he will get back to your promptly with a thorough response. Test are sometimes difficult, but reasonable. He does curve the test, and offers on average, 10 points of extra credit. I would recommend this teacher.

Mr. Magee is not only my favorite teacher, but I keep going back to him for extra help when my current calculus teachers can't. I had him two semesters in a row and have gotten A's both times. He is truly passionate about teaching and math and will take as much one-on-one time with you as necessary to help you understand the material. GO MAGEE!

HYBRID CLASS: 60% tests, 10% worksheets, 10% online quizzes, 10% H/W, 1 H/W dropped. Curves midterms, offers EC. He is extremely helpful and passionate about teaching. Very sweet man, wish I could have him for 183. I hadn't taken math in 2.5 years so calc was difficult, but Mr. Magee was very understanding and willing to help! Tests can be tricky.

Mr. Magee is an amazing teacher! He is over and beyond helpful. I am currently taking Math 120 online and couldn't wait until the end of the class to leave a review. Mr. Magee is always there for you when you need help. He spends many hours in the math lab pretty much always available. GREAT TEACHER!

Mr Magee is an incredible teacher! I took an online summer class which was brutally hard, but he did all he could to help. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. Tests are hard but he gives study sheets and allows note pages. I highly reccomendations him. I wish he taught statistics because I would take him in a heartbeat!

Definitely a good math teacher! His philosophy of teaching is helping you to understand the idea of each law and theory instead of just telling you how to solve problem. This really benefits me in the next level math class.

Nice and helpful

Mr. Magee is an excellent calculus teacher. I originally thought the class was going to be quite difficult but James does a very good job at explaining concepts. Also, the homework is ONLINE. He uses the My Math Lab program which will teach you how to do a hw problem if you are stuck. It is much more effective than paper hw. TAKE HIM FOR CALCULUS!!

First off, Mr. Magee is very passionate about teaching, he truly cares about his students, and is always willing to help at his office hours. The only problem is, HIS TESTS ARE SO HARD!

Mr. Magee is a wonderful teacher. He is humourous as well. He's always talking about how wonderful is math. We love him a lot. Unfortunately, he is not teaching 193 in the next semester. I am being upset about it .

Mr. Magee is a great instructor. He uses Pearsonmathlab for HW and Quiz. And he also gives you 3 tries in each quiz and 4 for each HW. There are 5 exams and he drops the lowest one. However, his tests are sometimes tricky but he gives practice problems before each exam and curves the tests. He also gives extra credits, so you should be fine.

Excellent instructor. Clearly explains things in an easy to understand way and uses useful, well thought out examples of past mathematical problems to help you grasp the new concepts the class covers. I took the class online and recommend against it unless you are strong in math and took recent classes (i'm returning after years away). He's great.

Mr.Magee is BEYOND professional, helpful, kind and intelligent! He has always been there to help me out when I had a difficult time understanding a math problem. He doesn't only help out students because it's his job but mainly because he wants everyone to succeed! You will never regret taking him as your math instructor, simply bc he is the BEST!!

The BEST math professor I ever had at DVC (and I'm not over exaggerating)! Teaches you step by step procedures to understand your course and if you have any problems what so ever he is willing to sit down and help you. Ive been having math phobia for YEARS ever since hs and now I feel like I actually understand math. Take him, you won't regret it

I have taken both math192 and 193 and got an A from both. If you study and go through hw and practice exam bf the exam, you will get a great score. This time I don't even have to take final. He is not funny guy but teaches the materials with passion. And will be there for you if you are struggling with something.

Mr Magee is the best math teacher I ever had my entire life. I thought I was never good at math and passing calculus 2 would have not been possible without his amazing lectures, and consistent help. Make sure you ask him for help, because if you show him you are working hard,you will definitely pass. Visit his office hours for sure.

Best math teacher I have ever had. This is my second try at Pre Calculus and I decided to take it online. I was worried out would be difficult but with this professor it has been much easier. He is very helpful and generous when it comes to extensions and retries. I really hope I can take his classes for the rest of the calc series. Do the hw.

Great teacher, homework and quizzes using MyMathLab, scantron Exams. THIS IS A BRUTAL COURSE! Hybrid online summer crash course for Algebra II - daily homework due 7 days a week, 10 to 38 questions each section (2/day)some with multiple parts. Would not advise taking it if you struggled in Algebra I - take the full semester course instead!

James is great teacher . I m retaking math 120 online . Be ready to have lot of homework on Pearson. Really good teacher , exam and final in class . And 8 quizz online. This class is great I recommend that teacher.

Mr. Magee is very nice. I took one of his many online courses, so I can't judge his actual teaching skills but the class expectations were pretty straightforward and easy. Do the online hw+quizzes, review/study his study guides, and show up on test days. He lets you have a little cheat sheet so the tests weren't too hard.

If you are looking for a perfect math teacher, please take him. You will learn a lot and enjoy in his class.

Professor Magee is a very caring and passionate about teaching. He makes extra time within his already busy schedule to accommodate his students and curves test scores. Mr. Magee is absolutely the best math teacher in DVC. He cares about his students a lot and hes very passionate about teaching math. Hes very accessible if you need help outside class. There are 4 exams, quizzes, finals and lots of homework. He drops the lowest homework and quiz and curves your grades. Take him if you want to really learn Math!

The reason why I am writing the review right now and I didn't before is because I was afraid his Math193 class would get full faster and now that am already registered in his class am writing this review lol. I took his hybrid class and it worked perfect for me. Math is not my strong suit but I was able to use mymathlab as well as the text to pass the class. It is not self paced but it is pretty much self taught. Meetings once a month is when we had exams. 4 exams total- one for each chapter covered in the semester, but notes are aloud!

As an adult learner, I must admit that Mr. Magee is the best prof I've ever known yet, he lectures with knowledge, passion, and lots of amazing charisma. Never a dull moment in his lectures. I've never worked so hard in any other teacher or instructor as I've done for professor Magee with gratitude. He goes out of his way to help (ANY) student

Magee is funny, passionate, and really cares for his students. Calc 2 is definitely a hard course, but Magee finds ways to make it fun and less challenging. He uses Pearson for his HW assignments, but there are no quizzes, only tests/final. His tests can be quite difficult (esp first one) because he constrains the time limit to around 1.5 hours.

I took the online course so the majority of learning is on the student, but he was there to assist in any way. He is very nice and willing to help. You will have homework throughout the week and there are 3 exams and 1 final. If help is needed he has great office hours and is quick to respond to emails.

I was so intimidated by Calculus 2 because everyone always told me that it was a weed out course however, Professor Magee makes the material so easy to understand! He is so smart and enthusiastic and it really rubs off on the students. He is so understanding and truly cares about all his students. He is an awesome person take Magee!

Best porfessor in my entire life! His lecure is amazing, organized, straight-foward, entertaining, and easy. You can see what a beautiful subject math is by taking his course. You will never regret taking his lecture! I am to sad that I didn't took his math 192 class and he is not teaching math 292 next semester.. I could have learn so much more!!!

Mr. Magee is my favorite professor so far. He cares about his students, very patient. He can make lectures simple and clear. HW and quiz online. 4 exams and 1 final. He will give students many practice problems, which is very helpful for the exam! If you followed him and worked hard, you would definitely get an A. I think I will take 193 with him.

Professor Magee is a great guy & rly cares about his students. He is extremely approachable in office hours. The amount of hw is reasonable (for a calc class). You do need to show up, take notes, study to succeed. Only downside with tests were multiple choice which has 5-6 questions weighted at 25% of test. So if you miss 3 MC u lose 15% of points.
