Very good teacher, he knows his stuff. Makes class funny. He's kinda monotone... but.. pretty straight forward.

what a story teller you need to take his class
Mr Manley was a great teacher sometimes class gets a little boring with the lectures but you learn a lot. He is very fair to all his students.
Very soft spoken...but really teaches well. Gives you a study guide for every test. Just studying everything on the list and you should do just fine.
I had this profession back in the fall of 2004. He actually made learning humanities fun and interesting. Definately recommended. *he scared the whole class when he passes out tests though, he never takes role call ever in any class, and then all of the sudden passes your tests back and comes right up to you and knows your name.. eeek!! ha
Good teacher. He controls the class-if you want to discuss or ask questions, you get with him after class. If you want to learn just listen, he'll teach you everything. I'm not in school to be friendly with my teachers, I'm there to learn the course, and he is my kind of prof.
Great professor. Easily my favorite professor yet. Fantastic sense of humor and very personable. His class made an uninteresting topic very interesting and at times very funny. I highly recommend him.
Awesome instructor, really kept me interested in the class
A bit monotone, but good teacher and storyteller.
Monotone, but very good stories. He kinda paces around weird with his hands in his pockets. He also does this weird thing with his lips, but he is a good teacher, and his stories are very interesting.
I agree it was a bit scary when i got my first test back and he know i was and never called roll
I enjoy his classes.
he explaines everything like a story, so it makes the class interesting, not just full of stupid facts!

i enjoyed his class it was a bit weird after the first test he gave everyone their test back and never called role
Very interesting and humorous lectures, very knowledgeable about history, obviously loves his topic
Does not want to communicate
I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Manley. The man knows his stuff. He dominates his class. If you have questions, don't ask during lecture, ask after. For some people that's great and others, not so. His tests are hard, yes, but just take good notes and you'll be fine. And he passes tests out without knowing names! HOW DOES He DO IT!
I am taking his humanities class this semester. The class is not very difficult at all but you need to prepare really well for the exam. If you have any problem on the exam, he is a very helpful professor and I am sure that he will help you a lot!
HE is AWESOME! You must take notes. He says he doesn't care about attendance; however, if you miss a class, you miss out on all you need to know for the test. Everything that is on his test is what he tells you in class. I made a study guide from all of the notes I took and I aced just about every test. You have no other assignments, just 5 tests.
Awesome class.
Dr. Manley is EXTREMELY AWESOME! He tells a lot of funny jokes to make the class interesting. Tests are easy, but you have to take notes in class. Other thing to do is study the term lists he gave you, you can get an A if you know all those term, NO TRICKY QUESTIONS!
TAKE HIM. I can't stress it enough. No homework, no quizzes, just tests, and he is such a good story teller. Manley is an 8 ft. tall beastman who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi!! I learned so much and when I went to Paris the following semester, I recognized so much art because of the class. I learned so much. He is awesome
Awesome teacher! I wish he was teaching another class I need
Awesome Awesome Awesome! Totally blew my mind when he passed out tests without ever taking attendance....it is truly cool! He is awesome with his dialogue and if you listen what he says will stick forever absolutely my favorite professor to date!
Man, this class was awsome! Great teacher, tells lots of jokes to keep it interesting. Tests are kinda hard, but if you take notes and listen, you'll have an easy A. Lowest test score is dropped. Don't bother asking him how he knows your name, i tryed but he wouldnt tell me, its kinda freaky actually. GREAT GUY, GREAT CLASS, TAKE HIM!
Manly is the best...He lets you decide your own grade...great teacher and easy a...
Awesome teacher. I wish he taught more humanities classes. Definitely one of the best teachers at CFCC. He was so interesting that I always came to class, despite the fact that he doesn't require you to... best teacher of the course, hands down.
Great and funny guy. Here's your track to an A. 1) You get a term list with close to 100 words, know them inside and out. When the test comes, you will get an A. I didn't do this for the first two test, but I did on the last 2 and Now I'm getting A's. He never asks you your name yet he hands the tests back directly to you, Kind of freaky!
Great class!!! All you have to do is listen and take notes and you will always do great on his tests. The way he knows everyone's name is creepy but he is a wonderful teather!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed his class and the way he respects everyone.
I'm taking his class, now. His jokes are dumb but he never takes attendance and somehow knows exactly who you are. Just take lots of notes and make flashcards for the test terms. He never assigns homework. If you dont mind taking a really long class, take this one. He is a real smart teacher,
Fun and interesting. Lots of notes.
This man was wonderful! It felt just like story time. Be sure to keep questions to yourself until after his lecture-he tends to get flustered if you interrupt him. Other than the lack of interaction, great class. Highly encourage anyone to take it for an easy grade.
Very funny guy, I enjoyed his lectures. This is the first class I've taken at CFCC that I actually liked and wanted to go to.
he is very interesting and tells related topic stories so you remember his lectures. you'll do fine, just take notes and remember paintings. 1st teacher to make going to college fun!
The man is a genius. EAAASY class. No homework ever! No quizzes, or class work. Five midterm tests are what you get graded on. If you pay attention in class... you will do wonderful. I'd take him for every class if he taught everything. Very, very, smart man. Very good class to learn in, too.
boring
A great teacher, if you show up to class and take notes you will get an A. No homework or quizzes, just study for the 4 tests, if you get A's you don't have to take the final. He has a very dry sense of humor and is a great storyteller. No class participation, just listen to lectures.
boring class and corny jokes but if you take notes and study the class is easy to pass!
He has an interesting way of recreating the periods of which he is speaking of during his lectures. It helps you to connect with the topics at exam time. Multiple choice tests, drops the lowest exam grade.
Sign up, sign up now! Manley was the BEST professor I've ever taken. Eeeever. You will learn so much & learn it in a fun way. He's amazingly smart & hilarious. Dry, dry humor. I spent half the semester laughing. He teaches thru stories & funny anecdotes. I wish he taught another class. Fyi, if you skip, you'll guaranteed fail. Study. So worth it.
he is cool
He is the best professor I have ever had. He knows everybodys name from the begining It's freaky! I learned a lot in this class and now I am really into history thanks to him. JoseCubero
Take this class under someone else if at all possible. (intro to hum.) Very dry, old style teaching methods. What ever you do, do not ask him a question during class.
Mr. Manley is a fantastic teacher and I thought his class was so interesting. This is the only class I have enjoyed while at CFCC
Good Teacher tells a lot stories. Smart ass, but funny. Dry sense of humor. Only used the book to look at paintings. Not a hands on class at all, He lectures the hole class, but he keeps it interesting with his different stories. Very intelligent guy. Attendance does not count. Also the only grade in the class are his tests!!!!!!!!
Mr. Manley was awesome. You don't ask questions, you don't have to participate, just listen and take notes. If your notes aren't well written and well documented, you'll regret it. Write your notes based on his words. Other then that, Ive learned more in this class then any other so far. Way to go Manley.
Awesome Professor! I enjoyed his class and learned a lot more than I expected to. If you take good notes you'll do well - and if you listen closely you'll even pick up on his jokes! Thanks Dr. Manley
great teacher, actually the only class i didnt dread going to. makes subtle jokes, pretty funny relatable guy. listen closely and take good notes and youll be fine.
Amazing prof! The lectures are extremely interesting, even for a hard science major fellow like myself. He has the ability to take a the rich cultural background that inspired a work of art, and really gives you a new way of looking at a lot of art you've probably seen before.
One of the best classes I've ever had, Mr. Manley is a very good teacher. The class consists of listening to stories and taking notes. He drops the lowest test grade, and there are 4 tests, and a final, no homework. If you go to class every time you will have virtually every answer for the test in your notes! Book is not needed. Take this class!
Awesome lectures
Had him for HUM1020. 4 midterms if you get all A's on all four you don't have to take the final. he drops the lowest grade. i got an A on all 4 tests so i thought the class was easy. attendance is optional but all of his lectures are on his tests. I would take him again for another class i thought he was pretty easy. lots of notes though.
Wow... who knew history could be so... WOW... Manely tells the most amazing Stories with in his lecture. He gives you a term list before every test (4 tests & 1 Final)just study the sheet and you'll be fine. I loved the way he teaches compare to what my friends say about their Humanities' professor. So if you have a choice... Choose Dr. Manley.
I took him for HUM1020. He's a great teacher that I've ever had. I learned alot from him. Not quiet easy intructor, but you need to pay close attention to his lecture because everything he says there will be on the test. I highly recommended him. Take him, and you will never regret
Bring a voice recorder, take notes, especially what he writes on the board.Knowing that the class should be easy. Also don't miss class, you miss one week and not know you have a test the next. His lectures interested me and I liked the class.
The class was 2 and a half hours long, and it was VERY boring. I really couldn`t learn much. Teacher is very monotone, never changes his emotions while speaking, which made it even more boring. There is no classwork or homework, which makes the class harder. The class is only based on tests and the final..which I didn`t like. The class was horrible
Hated this class. Teacher was a great guy, but sucked as a teacher. Could never understand what he wanted us to write down, always stories that were irrelevant to the class topic. Too long of a class and only 4 exams, plus final. HARD to keep up with this teacher! Do not take this teacher if you can't learn from lectures.
Awesome teacher i learned so much. All you have to do is pay attention an you'll do fine. The only people I hear complain were the ones that never came to class. Great guy take him!
this teacher is BOREING!!!!! alll u do is 4 test. 2 hard. he is a great guy. i wouldn't recommend hime to ANYONE
Great teacher! He tells stories and makes history interesting. Sarcastic and dry humor! Attendance not mandidtory but you dont want to miss! lecture class! write down every word he says, hands out term list, ONLY 4 exams plus final, he drops lowest grade, also curves every test and hands out term list. Tough but worth it! i got an A!
I absolutely loved his class. He has a very dry sense of humor which really got me into his stories and helped me remember things for the test. No homework, papers, or classwork. Just take notes and take tests! You must study for his tests but if you do you can get an A.
I loved this professor! He is very monotone and has a dry sense of humor but he still made learning fun. Take notes on everything he says, he provides term list for 4 tests plus final, he dropes lowest test grade, if you pay attention and take plenty of notes you will pass no problem.
AWESOME TEACHER, I LEARNED A LOT IN HIS CLASS. HE HAS GREAT WAY OF INCORPORATING STORIES INTO HIS TEACHING, I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO TAKE.
Awesome teacher, he has a very shall we say "dry" sense of humor. but he is great. he incorporates side stories into his lecture which make it fun. one thing to watch out for is the artwork on the last two tests. caught me completly off guard. learn the art. but id ssay very easy to pass.
As long as you follow along with his story telling and notes he puts on the board it's an easy class. He gives you a study guide for each of the 4 quizes and one for the final as well.
Great teacher, so nice and helpful. He gives very useful lectures. If you take good notes and study, his class will be a breeze. I love it!
Mr. Manley is an awesome historian and is super engaging while lecturing, but his tests are very difficult. You have to attend class to know what will be on the test, because as he says, he teaches the course - not the book. I've thoroughly enjoyed his class, but I'm an A student with a B in Humanities:(
Very monatone, pretty funny but class is boring! take notes! everything he write on the board WRITE DOWN! He is awesome at responding to emails quickly! key is to memorize paintings artists and time periods!4 tests 1 final drops lowest grade get A on 4 tests dont have to take final. attendance not req but GO or you WILL FAIL! Passed with a B here:)
Great professor that made Intro to Humanities my favorite class my first semester of college. :) Took him as a mini-mester. Though it was fast paced, Dr. Manley definitely kept it upbeat and interesting. He has 4 major tests and then a final at the end. If you score A's on all 4 tests you are exempt from the final. Definitely recommended!
the things he says is very important and if you just study the terms he gives you, you will get an A in the class. EASY EASY EASY.
Very easy to understand and a hard class. Just take notes and do study guide--it will help you. Make A's on 4 test and be exempt from final. Good professor!
Not a easy class. You have to study hard for the exams. But you can really learn a lot from his class.
Loved Manley's class! One of the classes I loved to go to! His stories really help me remember what happened. MUST: Take note, attend class and follow the study guides! I could of done better, but the art threw me off a little, remember ALL parts of the art, including the era's (which I didn't.) I would take him again!
Professor Manley is an excellent teacher and definitely knows what he's talking about. His interesting stories and examples had my interest the whole semester, even on the online lectures (I took his hybrid course). There are four major tests and a final and those are your only grades. Luckily they are not difficult if you study, but they're long.
Professor Manley is a funny, easygoing guy. If you have any questions he will answer them without any problem. His lectures are simplified and clear. The man knows what he is talking about and can always explain. Online lectures are just like being in class. Great professor, easy a with studying.
Excellent teacher - you will learn a lot. The tests reinforce what you've learned. The tests are simply to help you know the material. Very nice guy and willing to explain everything.
REALLY EASY CLASS!!! just be there for lectures and pay attention. If you are good in history then the class will be a breeze like it was for me. He's funny and hi little comments makes different concepts easier to remember. A+ as a teacher
Explains concepts really well... almost in a story-like fashion. Makes things really easy to understand. Note-taking and attendance is an absolute MUST. I definitely recommend him :)
Mr. Manley was a great teacher. All you need is listening, note-taking, and studying skills. He tells you whats on the test, and teaches what is on the test so there are no surprises. I came into his class hating the subject of history/humanities/social science but left loving it all and passing with a 96% A+.
Fantastic Teacher. Doesn't put anything on tests that he hasn't talked to you about.
basically if you want to pass take notes!!!!!! then read read read your notes & look at his videos atleast twice and take notes from them aswell. you must take his class seriously and GO TO CLASS! it is a must! 5 exams and he drops the lowest one but they are not easy!
Mr. Manley is a great teacher! he allows time after class for questions,he informs you of what is on the test. make sure to take notes in class and on the vidios and if you take his 6 week course you will have alot of information to know! he is funny too.
This is one of the best instructors I've had since returning to school. I was afraid at first, but there is a kindness deep within his spirit that allowed me to want to know more. I appreciate his teaching style. I definately recommend him to all. Take good notes and collaborate with someone and you will get an A or B.
Tests are based off of lecture, there is no reading for the class. Listen to what he says and take notes. He gives a study guide for all 4 tests, and they cover every question. 4 tests and a final. If you get an A on all 4 tests then you don't have to take the final. He also drops lowest test score. Great teacher who loves what he does.
Lecture class only! Very emotionless...anything he writes on the board is important. 5 tests lowest grade dropped. If you score A on 4 tests dont have to take final. Class was not easy I studied lots. Final grade B
I signed up for his lecture class, but everything turned out to be online. He posted several videos, sometimes being an hour long, and unless you watched them, the tests were impossible. He knows his stuff, and expects you to do the same. Be prepared to spend HOURS and HOURS studying.
Fabulous teacher. Listen and take notes. His test questions come directly from his lectures. He is very intelligent and is willing to help you pass! I would recommend him to anyone needed to take this course!!!
Amazing teacher, helpful, knows his stuff. His class was interesting and he told stories as if he was there when they happened. Text book is super cheap and its all pictures, you have to go to class in order to get the material but he works with you on text grades and then final. test are a lil challenging but as long as you pay attention your good
He is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my LIFE! He is rude, unhelpful, and just not a fun person to be around. He doesn't want to help when you have a question. The test questions have NOTHING to do with anything he talked about. DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM! I took him online and ended up withdrawing from the class because of how rude he really was.
I found this teacher to be very boring (put me to sleep most times). He didn't get to the point - always went off subject which was very annoying. For tests, you pretty much have to know EVERYTHING.
He's a good guy but not the best teacher. He knows his stuff but doesn't get to the point.
Good class. I met with him several times and he was always nice to me. I don't know what the issue with the textbook is, of course you have to listen to the lectures, thats what the class is about.
His class is really easy if you keep up the the lectures, and the videos that he posts online. Do not wait to the last minute to look at the videos. Always pay attention to the key terms because they are always on the test. The only downfall to his class is that he doesn't get to the point. HE GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT.
Amazing! Prior to taking the class I was less than thrilled because I hated history in high school. However, Manley changed my mind. He makes the material so interesting. He comes up with funny little stories to get the information across. Only had to do 20 HW assignments, 4 quizzes, 2 exams. Take this professor! He is awesome!
Mr. James Manley Ph.D. is an incredible professor. Totally knows his subject and is a walking encyclopedia. If you take on-line course, he provides video tutorials of all chapters form either his classroom or office. Very personable, nice guy.
I took this class online, and I absolutely loved it. I was never really that interested in history before, but after taking Dr. Manley's class, I love it. He makes the material interesting, and he has a dry sense of humor that he adds to his lectures every now and then. His quizzes are very easy if you take good notes. Definitely take this class.
Great class to take with Dr. Manely. No final which is amazing. All of his work is posted in the first two weeks of school then he gives you until the end of the semester to complete it. Also, i suggest submitting the work in early so he's no struggling to grade them, trust me. Awesome, teacher all around. Book is Peter Kreeft's Socratic Logic 3.1
Posted all assignments on day one. Very easy course.
Dr. Manley class is a piece of cake! You must watch his lectures or you won't pass (they are long), but he makes a few jokes to break the ice. His class contains mostly quizzes and three exams. (You are able to work at your own pace!) Make sure you study! He has no final exam!
Just started taking this class and i thought it would be boring, but it was very interesting. He knows his stuff and makes you actually interested in the thing you used to think were boring. Has a sense of humor which is great. Assignments are easy. Taking online and it's great.
Thought this class would be extremely boring, but I actually learned a lot from Professor Manley. Awesome teacher and his witty humor is refreshing during lectures. Just pay attention and keep up with your assignments (it's best to stay a little bit ahead) and you'll pass the class easily. Would take another one of his classes in a heartbeat!
Worst professor I have ever had! The tests were not relevant to the lectures that were given. We had this class during summer & he STILL gave the same amount of homework as he would have during a full term. Not helpful, VERY rude& big headed. Do NOT take this professor if you want to succeed at HUM1020!
His demeanor in class is that of an individual who deeply cares about the topics that he teaches and about those who would like to learn. He is fully understanding that the people who take the class are adults and treats them as so. Lectures are done by telling stories and are fascinating if you pay attention. Highly recommended.
Pretty much non-existent. Definitely a self-motivated class. You need to make and keep to a schedule to complete the work. All in all, an interesting class.
Manley really knows his stuff. he chose to make the textbook for comparative religions a cheap to buy one from our bookstore (I didn't like the author, he was hard to understand at times). online you can finish all of the work for this class quite quickly.
Professor Manley provides excellent lectures. He cares deeply about the subject and makes learning the material interesting. The course work is done at your own pace as long as the quizzes and exams are done by the required due dates. As long as you watch the lecture videos and take notes, you will pass with an easy A.
As long as you pay attention to his lectures, you'll be fine! Study for the tests!
I took REL and HUM with Dr MAnely . In HUM there are a bunch of lectures, in REL its the book only. If you do not watch the lectures or read the book, you will not pass. Welcome to college, no freebies with Manley.
Easy online class to pass, everything is straight from the textbook and easy one liner discussion posts. Took during a mini semester and finished it two weeks early.
You are only graded on timed quizzes, but they are very specific to lengthy lectures. You'll get an A if you listen and take good notes. Sometimes they are hard to pay attention to, but you can tell he is very passionate about the subjects. He offers his own textbook, but displays all the info needed in the video lectures.
Manley was awesome! I was very intimidated at first because he clearly is very knowledgable about religion. Class was very easy and to the point. He is very lenient when it comes to deadlines because he knows sometimes we fall behind. Discussion posts and a test for each chapter is all. Very simple discussions and tests are straight from the book!
All of your grading is based off 4 test. You are expected to know way too much information for 1 test. He is not good at giving you help you do not understand. He gives a lot of online lectures to watch so get ready for teaching yourself. If you can, take another professor...
I took Professor Manley's comparative religions class online and it was great. Each week there are discussions to complete and one quiz. It is a very simple class, and in my opinion, an easy A. The topic is very interesting. I enjoyed this class!
I never connected Manley once out the entire semester that I was in his online class. You would read one chapter every week, take a quiz based on the reading, and answer discussion questions. He is very relaxed with due dates.
He was a great teacher. There were 13 quizzes and 47 discussions. The discussions weren't hard, but they can take some time. Overall, pretty great class, I recommend you take Comparative religions with him.
Im so glad I chose to take Mythology with this professor! The course was online, but all of the lectures were recorded. The syllabus & grading were straight forward. The lectures were interesting & very well explained. Taking notes during lectures will help you study & pass the exams. Basically show up or log in, pay attention, & youll do great!
Actually, I took professor Manley for REL2300 Summer A with a full schedule and a full time job. This class was so worth it and he is such a great teacher. Forgot to mention I am a new mom, so he just made everything better. Alot of assignments, but simple. Answering one or two questions per assignment and its opinion based so no wrong answer.
Manley is the best professor I have ever taken. He is super laid back, and makes the class very easy. The discussion posts are only worth 1 point, and there is no minimum word count for them and you do not have to reply to anyone. I wrote one sentence discussion posts sometimes and got the 1 point. Also, there are quizzes, but they are very easy.
This course was my last class before graduation and I was a little scared because I work full time, have two young boys and husband was deployed. However; Professor Manley was very understanding and responsive to every email. Watch all the videos, use textbook, take notes for every chapter so it wont be hard for the final. You will learn A LOT.
A lot of little assignments, a lot of it is your opinion so can't be necessarily wrong, the only downside to this class was that the final was a large part of your grade and there were a lot of terms to memorize to each religion.
I think professor Manley is a wonderful instructor, the only down I have concerning his class is the Honorlock exams!
Professor Manley is a really smart and down-to-earth professor. However, if you struggle with test anxiety, I do not recommend taking him. His class is test heavy given that the tests are a large portion of your grade. Professor Manley gives easy homework assignments and his lectures are usually enjoyable.
The syllabus and teaching outline was apparently not the one he created. The amount of assignments the syllabus said there was going to be worth 1 point each and quizzes worth 10 points did not match up to the actual amount during the class. The tests were worth 100 points and if you were not in class, you had to find the notes from someone else.
He was so enjoyable to listen to. There are a lot of assignments, but they are the easiest things I've ever done for homework. He's so kind and he makes jokes a lot. I enjoyed the topics and how he went about discussing them. I could tell he enjoyed it, and he was willing to answer any question we had. I'd like to sit through his lectures again.
Easiest class ever. Don't ask how I got an A... but I did.
Professor Manley's REL2300 class is a breeze - lots of easy assignments, no strict attendance, and loads of flexibility. Unstuck AI was a big help for memorizing terms. Definitely worth taking!
Took this class for honors credit and it was nice. Attendance is not required but you'd be missing out as he makes them interesting. Vids also have lots of info. Grade is mostly based off 3 tests but are a cake walk if you just look at the term list and read your notes. Would recommend taking more humanities courses with Dr. Manley if you need any.
I took this over a 6 week summer term. The work isn't difficult, but if you get behind, you'll feel overwhelmed. Each chapter has a quiz, and 3-8 short response questions. Quizzes and final are a big portion of your grade.Understanding the terms and religions they relate to are vital for you to pass the final. Lots of reading but I learned so much!
Professor Manley is fantastic! His lectures are simple, clear, and engaging. He explains logical structures well and always involves the class. He uses examples and guides us to think things through, making sure we fully understand instead of just giving answers. Online work is all that's graded, and easy. Super easy class and highly recommended!
Professor Manley is great, always available to help and answer questions. Caring and understanding, he provides helpful feedback and genuinely wants students to learn. The class covered world religions, and instead of just quizzing us, he encouraged reflection. The final was extensive but manageable if you studied. Highly recommended.
Quotes from professor:will you round up my score?why ask?If I say No will you feel better?reasons i cant:this is inherently unfair;it would be a betrayal of my own teachers, education,&standards of my professional career;they would force me to lie;I didnt graduate with a 4.0& did just fine;Youre going to get a B eventually it might as well be now
Professor Manley's class was good. He gave clear instructions and made sure that the students knew what was expected of them. The homework prompts were interesting, and the final exam was straightforward. It wasn't a very difficult class, just make sure you read the textbook and apply yourself on the homework questions.
