Professor Mayfield is by far the most helpful professor I've ever had. He tried his absolute hardest to make sure that the students could learn and accomplish. His powerpoints were directly correlated to his tests (which you can bring notes for), and if i could, I would take him for every class. Funny. Informative. Really a great teacher.
Great teacher!! 3 midterms, 1 final and gives study guides a week in advance. He allows you to use your notes during the tests as well. You don't need the textbook either.
Professor Mayfield was funny, informative, and extremely interesting. There's absolutely no homework, and only 3 essays. These three essays are easy enough if you show up to class and make your study guides according to the slides. He makes you think of History in a new way, through different perceptions. You don't have to buy the textbook at all.
As a History major, best History professor I've had so far, hands down. Amazing intersectional lectures that don't pander to regionalracial bias, shows ALL sides of a historical event + the thinking behind it - really encourages all students to think critically about the material + helps all he possibly can. Wish I could take him again.
Great history class!! would take him again!! you don't even need the book and gives the study guide a week in advance. you can use your notes and book during the tests! Hilarious teacher also.. 3 essay tests plus the final essay test.
Great Teacher, From the start he was funny and very passionate of what he was teacher, gave great feedback on essays so you can improve on the next one. Was laid back and answered any questions you had for him.
I loved this professor. He is very passionate about history and really wants his students to do well. He encourages class participation and the tests are all in class essay. As long as you pay attention to his power point slides and take notes, you will do fine in class. He gives a lot of feedback and is very approachable.
Really aint that great. He alright, wouldn't take him again but if I had to I'll be okay. He says he's different from other history teachers but thats because he shows dead bodies and stuff, like calm down. You MUST write down what he SAYS as well as whats on the slides, because he will ask about that on test. Book is useless. Don't buy.
He likes the gory and messed up side of history which is interesting because its the truth. DON'T buy the text books you will not use them. His tests are all essays usually 2 each time. Make sure you take notes mainly on what he says during the lecture its more important and makes it easier for you to do better on the essays with open notes.
His class is great, was so interesting! I learned a lot. He shows the "real" non-sugar-coted history. No book necessary, take notes on lecture and power pts. If you miss class u will miss a lot. Exams are short essays (we only had 3) and 1 optional extra credit short essay. Gives feedback to help improve on the following ones. Would take him again.
His class was interesting , everything he test on is the exact thing he lectures, attend class and you will pass. I reccomend him. You also dont need the books since everything he teaches is on the test and doesnt expect you to know dates and peoples, just ideas.
Don't get me wrong Professor Mayfield is cool and his class is interesting but the way he grades his tests and the way he explains his power points are very confusing, if you are not specific enough on the tests he will give you a low grade no matter how much information you put. you have to ask him exactly what you are doing wrong in order to pass
Eh he is good to look at some times, tests are kind of vague and he will take points of if you dont do stuff like the way he wants it
Such a fantastic and thought-provoking Professor! Listen to the lectures and take as many nites as you can. Elaborate on the power point slides in your notes. When taking an exam be as specific and give as many examples as possible. If you get a bad grade, ask why and how to fix it. He is there to help you understand the material. MUST. TAKE.
Amazing Professor. Very clear with his lectures, all powerpoints on moodle. Textbook not required. Midterms and final exam very easy, just essay writing and you can use your notes. Would definitely take another class with him.
Easily the best Hist professor at LBCC. Always starts class with current events, lectures are entertaining, or at least tries his best to make them. Participation can go a long way when it comes to how you're graded on the tests. No homework, no essays, just lectures. He is a pretty rad teacher.
He really gives good feedback on papers. His lectures are intense because he talks about things most professors wont. He also does not make you buy a book or gives you lots of homework. I took him during summer and he is amazing so im taking him again in the fall.
Much as I hate history, I do. It's too negative and hateful and bloody for me. HOWEVER, this teacher actually made the learning enjoyable by his lectures, videos, class participation, making it real and modern day to the current events. He also offered extra credit which was most helpful. He He cares about his students and is an inspiration to all.
By far the best teacher I've had in my life. He genuinely wants students to understand the material to its very core and presents it in such a way that it's easily understandable. He is definitely not your conventional teacher. He understands the failures in the way classes today are structured and navigates around that. You won't be disappointed.
This professor is a wonderful person. I wish I could tell him how much he's helped me as a person just by being a good example. He is funny, kind, smart, and has the most beautiful eyelashes. He also is very respectful of other people as human beings. He is a sweetheart. He will help whoever needs it however he knows how. He gets an A+.
Amazing lecturer. You will learn every single second that you are in his classroom. And a really nice person. I WISH ALL THE BEST to J. Mayfield
Awesome professor! lectures were not boring whatsoever and gave us a different view of history. Definitely learned a lot even though i always dread taking history but his lectures actually made me want to come to class. Tests are based on lectures. Take him!
Nice person, if that matters to you. He is a good professor who takes his job seriously, but he's not pretentious. Take solid notes, this makes the exams a lot easier.
Prof. Mayfield is extremely knowledgeable in his field; enjoyable non traditional teaching method. Doesn't use the book, take good notes to use on your essay exams. He offers extra credit. Uses plenty of graphic power point with violence to make the topic relevant to current events, emphasizes to see the BIG Picture. Great Professor.
great teacher
He is amazing! I have learned many facts and history which is not on text book. Take him.
Professor Mayfield was truly amazing , i haven't learned that much in a class setting in such a long time. The way he teaches is in a way that you can understand and be part of the conversation. What this professor has is what other professors lack honestly.
This professors legit ! I would definitely take his class again. The material taught was very interesting. The class is lecture heavy so make sure to take good notes for his test. Other than that he's a pretty cool/funny/ good looking guy. His classes are really worth taking.
One of the best professors I've had at yet; took during Winter of 2017. Lectures are very entertaining and never boring. So if you actually show up to class and take good notes, you'll get an A no problem. Super kind, caring, hilarious, and has a good taste in music to top it off. Cool guy overall, this class is a must take for History.
Best teacher I ever had. He makes the lectures fun.
Professor mayfield made me like history, at least for the semester. He's an amazing professor and I promise you will learn something in this class. If you need history 11 take him, you won't regret it!
Mayfield keeps it real in class. He's extremely straight forward and flexible. Lectures everyday but little notes. As long as you get the main idea you will be solid. No quizzes, just 2 take home midterms and the final. I would definitely take him again!! 10/10 recommend.
A year has past since I haven taken his class, yet I still recall everything he taught throughout his lectures. He has an incredible talent to make history applicable and relevant. He brings life to his lectures along with brilliant wit and good humor. His teaching style is amazing. In simple terms, his class is far more than just a class.
This dude is so awesome and makes history fun! You actually want to come to class because the discussions are fun. Take GOOD NOTES not just what's on the power points, it'll really help with your midterm/final essays. No book needed, just go to class and participate. He has a great sense of humor for history and he's nice. Def recommended.
Funniest teacher out there. He definatley makes class interesting and entertaining. I wish I was able to take him again. Easy tests that are just a little essay on a topic that you get to do at home which is awesome. Does give extra credit. All he does is lecture during class. Take him.
Great professor! I took him last semester for an early 7 am class & he always made it super enjoyable despite it being so early. I really appreciated his intellect & ability to get a point across & help us understand. Definitely different from other professors as he seemed to genuinely care and I feel like I actually got something out of the class.
Awesome lectures really gets you thinking. A funny guy truly inspirational. His only graded work was two take home essays about the lecture. Take notes and participate in class youll pass
best teacher Ive ever had, class is so chill, makes you step out your comfort zone.. I broke my leg and he was very cooperative with me when i has to miss class, highly recommend you take his class
Great professor
This was my first best history professor I've had as a first year. I recommend him.
Professor Mayfield is a really cool teacher. He extends beyond the normal bounds of what students typically go through in a history class. His assignments are very simple but effective in making you think and see society at a different perspective. I recommend participating in the class, talking and sharing ideas to prevent a boring experience.
Professor Mayfield is an awesome professor. He does not teach the boring history lessons we have already learned in high school. Everything taught in his class is everything that is happening now. His assignments are very easy. All you have to do is show up to class, participate in class, and be specific on the essays.
He's a really cool professor. I loved taking history because of him. He taught us real world events nd everything important that is going on around the world. I took his summer class this summer along with two other classes and it was not hard at all. Don't skip class though, it effects your grade. 1 midterm, 1 final. lets us out early.
One of the best professors Ive ever had and would definitely take again. If you ever have to take a history class I recommend taking any of his courses.
I wouldnt really call this a history class, it was more of a discussion class about modern society. Its super easy to pass, you just have to show up and participate in the discussions. There are only 2 midterms and a final, which are all essays. Overall, I wasnt really impressed with this class, I was just super glad it was an easy A.
Great Professor, honestly made history very interesting.
If you think you will pass by just showing up and doing the work you are wrong. Participation takes you places and makes for great discussion. The class always knew how the exams were going to be graded. If you like a good laugh, Professor Mayfield will provide it. Thank you.
Hes a great teacher, took him for a winter semester and it was the best. You wont regret taking him.
Professor Mayfield was super easy. I took him over summer last year. He gives 2 super easy lecture based Midterms and 1 final. No textbook reading. No homework. He was also super funny and entertaining. Be ready for class discussions though because he is very big on participation. I would definitely take him again. Great guy!
I took Mayfield for MODERN HIST 11 during Spring . Honestly the best , chillest professor ive ever had . He his passionate about his lectures and making sure we are engaged and understand the content . Its a lecture class, but its cool topics and he gives us the opportunity to engage . Best learning experience ive ever had !
Took his summer class for credit and it was honestly really interesting. He's not the type to drone on about something and he's clearly passionate about what he teaches you. You just have to participate every once in a while for credit. The only graded assignment were two essays for the midterm and final.
He is awesome! I took him Spring 2020 and is so understanding. During the transition to online because of covid he assigned an assignment every two weeks. We got to choose out of two topics and he listed good articles to write our 200+ response on. Amazing professor with great insight.
He was very caring/understanding, especially during these difficult times. He truly wants his students to do well in his class and will do anything to help them out. The work wasn't much and was rather easy. He really knew how to make sure that students weren't being too overwhelmed and always reassured us that he is there to help when needed. :)
Hands down best professor Ive ever had. so caring, and makes sure to always reassure you hes there to help. Easy work . No test, just discussions, but the material is actually not boring and cool to learn and Im not even a history major. He makes sure hes always there for you even during the toughest times. Take him, youll love his feedback!
Easy A, very informative class regarding modern America and ongoing problems. Professor is NOT biased and offers a safe space for discussions. Great professor, passionate about the subject. Took this course during the winter and it is on the lighter side of workload and not too demanding. Definitely recommend, especially during the winter.
Professor Mayfield is literally the best. All you have to do is 10 reflections that are 300 words and one final reflection of 35o words, but you will most likely get all A's if you try. He's such an easy grader and he respects everyone's opinion. EASY A AND NO TEXT BOOK OR LECTURE!!!! just make sure you do the work because then you'll fail.
I loved this class! It was super easy and interesting. Only one discussion per week of around 300 words. No textbook, no exams, and no homework. Prof. Mayfield was amazing and he leaves great feedback on your discussions which I liked. He also recommended me for the honors program which I really appreciated! Take him if you can! I highly recommend!
Extremely easy class; you will get an A even if you put in little effort. Professor Mayfield is great. No textbook or lecture. Take him!
Mr. Mayfield was extremely kind and helpful regarding with topics to write about along with offering more sites to see interesting information like documentaries. He respects everyone's topics and opinions, giving a more knowledgeable conversation with him. recommend him.
Easy grader, I take his class on Summer2021, and he is very easy. Only 4 assignments in the whole semester. No tests or quizzes.
Don't hesitate to take this professor, I promise you will not regret it. He's very helpful, listens, cares, and will guide you step by step if you do not understand an assignment. The homework may be given every two weeks but it is defiantly homework.
Maaaaan take this professor. One of the most EASIEST As I learned with his online course. If you want to pass just come to class do the assignments you'll be okay fashooo.
If you need to take an easy history class this is the one for you, especially if you take his summer or winter class. Professor Mayfield is very lenient with grading and if you ever need help he is always avaliable to email. Take this class!!
The easiest class Ive ever taken in my life!! Took him in the winter and the class consisted of 4 assignments which were only 300 word minimum response posts. Hes practically a guaranteed A as long as u put in the bare minimum effort necessary to complete those 4 assignments. Theres also no textbook purchase necessary in this class!
he was honestly amazing. he gave me great feedback on my papers and gave me extra credit points if i went beyond. it was an easy A, the lectures were very interesting!
Prof. Mayfield is the best professor ever. His class was so easy to take, and i still learned from it. He really cares about his students, and will always be willing to help you with anything.
I took the summer course (~month), and I loved the class. he gives out super interesting topics and you can reach him through email very easily! There was only 4 discussion posts you had to do (one per week) for the ENTIRE class, and only 300 words! If you are just needing it for a GE or even an easy class to take, DO IT!! You will not regret it.
He was an awesome teacher. The classwork was light and while it was online he was funny and caring. Would take again!!!
Literally the easiest class I have ever taken in my college career, 100% take his class if you want an easy A. It consists of 1 300-word reflection every 2 weeks about real-world problems. If you do more than 300 words you'll get a better grade. The final is also a 300-word reflection.
I took Professor Mayfield's online course and enjoyed it a lot! He is very easy-going and I feel like I learned a lot. Very understanding. Great teacher. Recommend 100%!
Exceptional professor. You will feel like he really cares about the entire class and that you understand the topics. If possible, I would like to take this course again.
No assessments, no assignments, just discussions (including the final). Just read the articles he provides and watch the 1 or 2 videos and under the discussion to the best of your ability. Took this class in the winter and we had only 3 discussions plus an introduction. Very very very simple and still fun to learn. Do not take anyone else.
Professor Mayfield has been one of the best professors I have took. He really cares about the success of his students and is willing to go above and beyond to ensure we are learning. He makes his class very enjoyable by incorporating current events to his class. He provides excellent feedback on assignments and is very straight forward. A++ prof.
EASY! Informational and interesting class. Few discussion boards and that is it. No tests or papers. Super easy class and clear. Great prof. He is funny and chill. So amazing I am taking another class this summer with him. You will not regret it.
I took Professor Mayfield's History8B class from April to June. We only had 1 discussion (Intro) and 6 modules. Every two weeks a module was due on Sunday. No textbooks were mandatory; just go through the lecture and articles provided. Try to do at least a little over the word count and mention something from everything he provides.
Professor Mayfield gives you one writing assignment every 2 weeks that you have to ensure is typed out well which is about the modules you read about. That's it. He also helps you out at any time if you contact him.
Professor Mayfield only gives assignments every two weeks. He gives no tests and no lectures. He is an easy grader and he cares about what you have to say. He is understanding and personable. 10/10 professor and 10/10 course as well! It was an amazing online course! He replies to all emails if you have any questions or concerns which is so great!!
1) The Semester is 100% online only 2) No Zoom meetings. 3) No, textbooks. 4) No Quizzes, Names and Dates Memorization, etc . All you have are 3 Reflections every OTHER week to be as flexible as possible, and to let you answer how YOU want. 10/10 chill professor and the videos or readings he assigns are actually easy to naviagate and not boring.
Great Professor really cares about the students and wants us to engage in the world problems now.
Took for Winter of 2023 for HIST 8B and Fall of 2023 for HIST 11. Awesome professor, 7 discussions and 1 final discussion! Easy online articles to read and easy to submit! Extra credit if you go more than 300 words! Tip to get an A in the class, submit on time!!! Does not accept late work! Have fun in his easy class! :)
Literally best history prof ever. His teaching style is very simple but effectively teaches you history. Would recommend!
I took Professor Mayfield's winter class. He only gives writing assignments that have to be a minimum of 300 words. He gave us 4 assignments during the 6-week class, every two weeks we had an assignment due. He gives good feedback. I recommend taking his class.
AMAZING professor. He was extremely communicative and had his expectations for assignments clearly lined out. Since it was a summer class, it went by extremely quickly but you only had 4 easy assignments: an introduction post and 3 reflection assignments. Literally could not have taken a better professor for the summer.
No extra credit, you get one assignment a month, no late work accepted, one missed assignment will cost you a letter grade. Final is 25% of your grade. Syllabus is unclear and not created well. There are better teachers to take for this course.
He was extremely communicative & gave good feedback! Would definitely recommend taking him :)
Professor Mayfield is easily one of the best professors at Long beach city. I had the privilege of taking his online winter course and it only consisted of 4 assignments that we had to complete each having to be at the least 300 words which is not very hard at all. Very straightforward and encourages you to reach out for help. Very awesome dude!
Yes take the class, the content was a breeze. Almost forgot I was taking it, such little work
Prof.Mayfield is very caring and he's always there to help. Only gave 1 assignment every other week and the final exam was easy he just graded more strictly. I just didn't like how for each assignment he asked questions that didn't align with the module readings.
Professor Mayfield made history easy, not boring. With our 12 week course, we had readings every week. Every other week, a reflection on one of the modules. That's it. He emphasized that as long as you supported your view with evidence from the readings, you'll pass. He gives good feedback and is always available for help. Highly recommend.
