Great prof! Tests are tough, but he gives lots of partial credit. Do the homework, it counts as an extra A test. I struggled in Alg and Pre-Cal, but still managed to get an A.
Yeah...I failed him, but he was nice enough to let me take a W...then I took the course with someone else.
Don't like him. Can't teach a monkey to eat a banana
His style is a bit unclear but extremely down to earth and always willing to help students. Great professor in terms of fairness and grading.
He is very helpful if you have a question. I thought tests were difficult, because there are so many questions you don't have time to finish. Everyone was there until last minute. He is very nice though and I got an A. Do the homework, it helps grade.
Horrible professor. Very unclear when persenting lectures. Test are very hard!! Most of my class was filled with people taking the class for a second and third time, cause the man cant teach. Although he is very nice, just cant teach. Avoid him he sucks!
I think he is a great teacher. His lectures are very helpful. He genuinely cares about the students, very down to earth, and fair in grading. The only thing I don't like is that he spends too much time going over homework problems.
veryyyyyyyyy good teacher
Very good teacher. His lectures are very clear; he knows how to handle the class with his great sense of humor. Take notes, do all the homework and you will be ok. His tests have two sections: one with calculator and the other without calculator.
He was a great profesor and he taught the material very well and very clearly. I am going to take him for another math course. His test are not hard at all if you understand the material. I reccomend him to anybody that is willing to learn math.
Very good professor, easy grader, can't score lower than a 50 on his test. plus he drops lowest grade. On top of that he is very clear knows his material and most of all knows how to teach it. i would recomend him to anyone that needs to learn math.
Very good professor. He's funny and makes matematics interesting. It's so cute how he's still fascinated by concepts in math. He's like a laid back old hippie, it's awesome. I love you McCloskey!!!!!!!
McCloskey has a good reputation around town. BUT these people who speak highly of him do not need his help in math. His tests are the hardest you will ever take, so IF YOU LIKE TO GET GOOD GRADES DO NOT TAKE HIM. His tests are never sensible
Very precise, smart, and funny. You will have h/w every night but, that's how you learn. Grades test fairly, with partial credit. He can answer and work out any question.
If you pay close attention, you'll see he hints at which problems will be on the test. Lets you have notes for the tests! However, they are VERY thorough. Do all the homework, 'cause his tests take it to the next level. Very laid back and kind.
Hard test, but good person. Lets you use notes, yet they are unhelpful because test are hard.I will not take him again.
Not a good teacher to take if you did not take intermediate math.He doesn't explain how to use the calculator and his tests are impossible even with partial credit. I am usually an A student but not anymore. I am getting a C in college algebra.
his tests are sooo hard!
quizes don't hurt you, only help, replaces worst grades, but the tests are super hard!!! you gotta understand everything he tought you cause the test will have something new on it, that the only way you'll solve it is if you really know. Wont take him agn
His tests are way to hard to bother with! Nice professor, but will be sure not to take him again!
His tests are unbelievable. He's a great teacher, but his tests are incredible. I won't take him again.
Don't take this professor unless you like to see your GPA go down! He sucks so bad! VERY UNCLEAR AND TESTS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Unless you want to dedicate your life to math i wouldn't recommend this professor. Don't make the same mistake i did.
test are hard as hell...but the way he teach and grade, he is great..he know what is he talking about when he explains everything...very nice
The tests may be very hard but he curves them all in repect to the performance of the class. He explains everything very well and is very helpful. Homework and quizes only help your grade, overall I thought he was great!

Don't expect any teacher to be easy in college math! His tests are hard, but what trigonometry test isn't? He is very helpful during his office hours. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!
Good teacher, fun
just run, and dont look back...
This is the best teacher I have ever had in math. He's extremely helpful and doesn't move on to new material until there are no more questions. His tests aren't that hard if you actually do your homework. I'll take him all the way through Calc3.
He is a really nice guy and willing to help as long as you ask. He gives LOTs of homework. His test are EXTREMELY difficult. He also expects you to remember EVERYTHING. He also expects you to be a math genious when you arrive in his class! If you are willing to work really hard take him!!!
good teacher..pretty oldschool... but still understands the schedule of most college students...tests are a pain..but if you do all homework you will get it rite..he has the potential to conduct a more fun class..but he does not exercise it..his classes are BORING!!!!!
He is a great guy but not a great professor. He does not teach only puts examples on the board. He does not answer your questions completely. Franklin is a way better teacher for calc. I wouldn't reccommend him if you are not good at calculus. You have to learn the material on your own to pass.
he is great! test are difficult... do your homework and you will do fine... he is great and fun... I recommend to take his class... great!!!
this teacher is a super nice guy. if i saw him out on the street id chill with him cuz he is mad cool and means no harm to anyone. even tho i dropped his class with one week left id recommend him to anyone its not too easy but he will try his best to make sure u doo great
Test are challenging but the way he grades makes the class a little easier.
He knew the material well, though he would get confused on his own examples time to time. Very nice and approachable. The class was well structured.
Challenging professor. If you take mccloskey do all the homework because it raises your unit grades significantly. He is a very nice guy and is very approachable. You have to work your butt off in his class.
Great Great Prof.!! He tries to make the class fun. His tests are hard only if you SLACK. If you're responsible enough to keep up wit ur homworks, unlike me, u'll e-z-ly get a B+. I took his calc I class this summer term n he went through almost everything. Another thing is he'll try to go over every example u want to help u understand. TAKE HIM!

Oh boy...this guy is crazy. He knows the material well, but I don't think he realizes that you don't know it as well as he. He thinks everyone is a mith wiz and should pick up on it quickly.
Ok, honestly...he is a very good professor. I truly am not a big fan of math myself...but I highly recommend him. His class can be difficult, but it's really the material nothing to do with his teaching. He is very helpful, approachable and friendly. Had a few good laughs during class. He does require homework, but it is to help your grade.
Loved his way of teaching, but for those who aren't good at math... you really have to catch up bc if you fall behind you might not understand. But he let's you miss class whenever, but just make sure you turn in the hw and do good on test. Other than that he's a good professor.
hes a pretty cool guy, nice but he doesnt really teach the class, he goes over homework the whole first hr. which doesnt give any time to learn any new material, so you have to teach yourself all of the material except maybe a few things he might go over that is new. if your like me, you need people to show you how to do things.he doenst really do
He is a nice guy, but he doesnt teach anything. He spends alot of time in only one problem. If you have trouble with algebra, please dont pick him, because you will have a hard time.
The key word here is to "STUDY..and to STUDY HARD". When it comes to homework assignments he takes about 30-40 minutes. When it comes to teaching the material he only have about 15-20minutes to teach it, which is not good. You basically have to teach yourself. If u need help outside the classroom HE WILL HELP YOU! sometimes he curves on the tests
as long as you do the homework and study.. at least 3 times a week... you should be good to go. he allows time for questions in class which is really helpful.. and even if you get the homework problem wrongs you still get credit for trying.. cant get much easier!
he is a good professor. he knows his stuff.. but the class can be difficult if u dnt pay attention.. jus pay attention and do the homework to pass.. and if u want a higher grade, keep ASKING QUESTIONS.. overall, a good professor, not too easy class.
I had a pretty difficult time in his class...I would do the homework and take notes, but I would always do pretty bad on the tests. He doesnt spend a lot of time teaching, mostly on homework problems. My suggestion is to really try hard and devote at least 9 hours a week on this course. He isn't as good as I thought he would be.
Lots of homework. He is willing to work with you and help you understand the materials, it is not an easy class to pass if your not willing or dont have the time to do the homework
He is very helpful, but he gives A LOT of homework. His tests are a bit difficult. He curves his exams though. Take him!
He is a good teacher. He gives lots of homework and goes over the homework the next day if people have questions on any problem. His test are challenging(not too hard neither too easy), but he curves (he grades tough). Overall he is very helpful and a good teacher.
I dig this guy....and I HATE math! His curves on the exam really do help a LOT...he will do his best to give you credit for trying...a good math teacher. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
He is a decent teacher I have had worse. Goes over homework problems which is boring, curves the tests and isn't a hard grader. You get to use your notes on one part of the test. Do your homework that's about it.
Can use notes on tests. Curves tests, gives credit for homework. sloppy on the blackboard, hard to take notes. When you take his tests, NEVER leave anything blank. Write SOMETHNG. Gives partial credit. The class is hard, you'll need it!! His tests are pretty creative, hard to find an edge. He is a cool teacher though.
Homework is a must, you will not pass if you do not do the homework. Most of the class time is spent reviewing the homework and answering questions based on it. Last ten minutes he will go over a new topic with one or two examples and tell you to have fun with the homework.
Great guy, who will reward you for showing up and for trying. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. It is easy to pass this class if you do your work at home. He really helps you out by curving the test grades. Study by reviewing your homework and ask questions in class.
Great teacher. As long as you do your homework and turn it in and pass the tests you should pass this course.
Class was a breeze, at least for me. Do the homework and study if you need to and you will do just fine. Allows notes on one portion of test. Very clear and makes sure that you understand the material. Nice teacher. Take him if you can.
Professor is monotonous, yet still easy to pay attention to. Nice and helpful whenever I had a question. Grades are on homework, quizzes, tests. Homework is important. Tests are difficult because some problems aren't from homework. Curves tests. Gives partial credit. Book sucks on some topics. Self study in the book is VITAL. Great class overall.
all i got to say is i suck at math and managed to get an A in this class. He knows how to teach and he helps you out by curving tests, points for hw, and allowing notes/calc on parts of tests :) I DEFINETLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!
He is extremely easy but at the same time you have to know your stuff. Homework helps out a lot and counts towards your grade which also helps out in the end but he always lets you ask questions and helps you out to understand everything. If you need more assistance, he lets you come to his office as well.
Good guy...cares about your grade, curves tests...jst do the homework and you'll be fine
I took McCloskey for Trig. He is really easy to understand. Do your homework and you'll be fine and get an A. If you don't do your homework, don't expect any sympathy from McCloskey. I will take him in the future.
at first thought he was terrible because he moves at a fast pace, if your the type of person who needs lots of explaining. but i ended up getting the hang of his teaching style. i suck at math and ended up getting a high B. you have to do ALL the homework. he gives you points for everything you do. DONT LEAVE ANYTHING BLANK ON A TEST! youll pass
The worst math teacher I have ever had! Doesn't really teach, goes way too fast, he teaches higher level math so he is teaching at that pace and not at college algebra pace, do not take him!! A friend and I both looked at his ratings and took him based on this website and were both highly disappointed
If you are not good at math already, DO NOT take this class. He won't answer your questions unless he has time. If he doesn't have time to explain something, he just moves on to something harder and more complex. If you are not self taught, I do not recommend taking this professor.
WHAT CAN BE SAID FOR MATH? IT IS HARD! DO THE HOMEWORK AND YOU'RE 1/2 WAY THERE. DO WELL ON THE QUIZES YOU'RE 3/4 THERE. DO WELL ON THE TESTS, AND YOU'VE GOT AN A.I DID WELL ON THE FIRST TWO... I GOT a C...I PASSED. HE IS A FAIR TEACHER. DO YOUR BEST!
This professor is so difficult to understand. He will not answer your questions if he does not have enough time. Definately DO NOT take his class unless you are self-taught. The book "learn by pictures" kind of book he uses is useless too. If you are a practical learner or hands-on, do not take this professor or use this book. It's not for you.
his tests are very very hard, but he curves a lot. problems on the tests are from his mind. not even close to the HW problems. u will have hard time if u take his class.
A really good professor, really helpful. Although his test were not easy but if u do your homework and ask questions u'll be fine.
He explains things really well, you just have to put time and lots of practice to understand it or you'll get behind.
Mr. McCloskey is great!!! He is always in his office when you need to go by and ask him questions. He takes the time to answer them and cares about your grade. He gave the students that were failing another test part way through the semester so that they could bring up thier grade, so they did not have to help. Take him hes VERY good!
A really good professor, was there to help whenever i approached him. I would not say his tests were easy but as long as you do your hw, youll be fine.
The hardest part of this class was that it was a Calc class. He's an excellent teacher, but be warned, he does want you to think and be active in class. He assigns homework that he'll go over in class, and then gives you another day before its due. I highly recommend him to anyone taking calculus, and don't doubt his skills at other classes as well
Comprehensible. I hate math and he was organized enough to make me capable of doing it. Nice man. Bit of a monotone, but I would recommend this professor.
He was a very bad teacher. He had no control of his class due to one student who would always act like a know-it-all and interrupt him every time he said a sentence to corrent him in any little mistake he made. He wouldn't give time in class to go over material from the other day and move on to other material. To sum it up, that class is ridiculous.
Extremely unorganized, I got a good grade but felt like it was despite my teacher. I would not recommend him.
I am floored over the previous two ratings. I thought he was a WONDERFUL teacher. I would agree that he is a little unorganized as far as grading goes but his ability to convey a principle is superb. I would have definitely taken him again this semester if any of his classes jived with my schedule. I'll try my best to get him again next semester.
So far he is a great math teacher. The tests are curved and he goes over basic Pre-calc. lessons so that the Calculus work is easier to understand. I already registered to take Calc. 2 with him as well.
I liked him! He was funny and helpful. I agree, he didnt give you much time to ask questions but it was a shorter class and in the summer. He is lenient with the homework, which is helpful considering there is alot of homework. I think he was organized and clear with his teachings. I tried this class last fall and had to withdraw because of the las
Prof. McCloskey is a good teacher if you're very independent and don't need his help too often. He expects you to know things and makes you feel dumb. I had to drop out 2days before the final!! His class gets WAY too disruptive and distracting. Other than that hes ok -attendance isn't mandatory, tests curved(including 1 dropped), & good h/w system.
I took his Pre Calc class... 4 tests VERY HARD!! The final replaces the lowest grade. Quizzes and homework help your grade a lot. I had C's on all the tests I studied very hard! You need to study every day in order to pass
not bad, but moves quickly. really nice guy, tons of hw but it helps. 4 tests tons of quizzes! gp to class if u want to pass.. even though its not mandatory.
knows his stuff. homework isnt mandatory but its extra credit added on at the end of the semester. attendance isnt mandatory but if your NOT a math person you might as well go. uses one page of notes on test. nice guy.
This is my 3rd time taking trig. I actually got through the class with a 'B'. Prof is willing to help, grading scale makes it easy to get points, tests are kind of hard, but if you do the homework you'll have no problem. Quizzes are extra credit towards grade. Get to use one page of notes on test.Definitely reccommend.
Great teacher, Definately not easy, but if you intend on going further than pre calc you dont want to have an easy pre calc class, great preparation class! just dont leave anyhting on the test blank and do your homework
This class was extremely easy and interesting.
I took him for trig and studied more then i did for any class and still got a C. His tests are ridiculous. I take harder classes and get better grades. Acts like you are suppose to know the material when you ask a question. I had to drop him for pre-calc because nothing he tells you to study is on the test!
Took him for pre calc over the summer and got a B. He's very helpful and willing to work with you. Not the best at writing on the board but you get the idea. He's really nice and likes to use weird random numbers for some problems, so don't expect an easy answer like 3. Do all the homework, it helps for practice and you'll be fine.
please.... dont take this class with this professor.... he teachs something and the test is something also... if you dont care fail this class, take it with him. i am pretty sure half of class failed it.
He is the best Math teacher Ever.... I took him for college Algebra, Trig, Precalc, and now Calc. Ive gotten A's in all of them but ofcourse i studied my ass off.. Do the homework becasue thats basicallly the test... He is always in his office the times that he scheduled.. If he sees that you are trying he will pass u..
Not for abstract thinking people. or people that want an idea about what is on the exam. The class is pretty straight-forward, but the exams.. if there is a tricky, or odd situation that involves being absolutely perfect in attention to detail in every way, its on the exam. every question. if you want to be confident in this class, good luck.
Awesome Calc teacher, he really wants you to succeed and will help you to understand what he is teaching. He will challenge you on tests though, god forbid a teacher actually makes you think and apply yourself in their class.
He's an amazing teacher. He's extremely clear and cares about his students, he's always willing to give you extra help and break things down for you. Homework is optional but it helps boost your grade, doesn't hurt it though if you don't do it. He's the best. Tests can be tricky, but it's a math class. TAKE HIM, best math teacher!
Trig is a hard class in gen but he has many tricks to help ur grade. He only counts hw and quizzes if they r higher than ur test grade. So they can only help.Ex:86 on test, but did well on quizzes and hw so I got a 92 for the unit. But final is worth 33% of final grade.Use solutions manual n the library 4 hw.Very time efficient way2figure out problems
Awesome teacher! If you take the time out to study and prepare for his test you will do well in his class. This will not be a easy A but if you plan on going further in math he definitely plants a strong foundation. He gives pop quizzes but it's normally from the hw he assigned the previous class... Don't expect the easy hw problems on the test.
took him for trig, got a B. wasnt an easy class but this guy does know his stuff and he's helpful/smart. gives pop quizzes which arent bad if you did your work. prepare to study a lot. he does tend to skip small steps in problems (ex. foil, quadratic steps, multiply) but hey if ur slow with those u dont belong in a college trig class.
He's a really good professor, but his tests are ridiculously hard. Thoroughly explains concepts, but counters it by an almost gleeful desire to put really hard questions on tests. It seems a tad unfair when compared to other professors' exams, his are so much harder. Your call though, as he really does teach well.
Mr McCloskey is great professor but his test are ridiculous. 12 lengthy problems 6 with a calculator and 6 with without.Good thing homework only helps your grade cause i needed it.Also when doing practice problems on the board he tends to skip steps that leaves a lot of students confused but he is willing to help you out
I'm glad I took this guy for Trig. He is a very generous teacher. I got an A in the class. For you to do the same, you have to work hard at it and MEMORIZE everything. Once you get the first few chapters memorized the rest will fall into place.
I thought he was a good teacher. He gave out a lot of extra points if you used Wileyplus and did the online hw and online quizzes that he assigned. If you had any questions he would go over it. There are 2 parts for every test, one calculator portion and non calc.
Attend class, do your homework, then do it again. Pave your path to success by posing your questions. You won't find many professors like this one who will spend all the time necessary to answer questions thoroughly. His tests are only difficult if you did not do the homework timely. His grading system is most generous.
James is a great teacher. He will go over homework problems and spend extra time to make sure everyone understands how to do the problems. His tests can be very difficult and discouraging, even if you do all of the homework. However, he averages in the homework which will boost your grade even if you don't do so well on the tests.
Good Teacher. Grading scale works for everyone. Only complaint is that he goes a bit too slow. All in all a great Teacher
his grading scale works well, if you do all your homework it will help your grade a lot, tests are hard. seems very unorganized, he is nice but didnt enjoy the way he taught.
Laid back prof, tests get kinda involved but he's an extremely forgiving grader. He also gives the option of relying on test grades or doing assiged hw to make up the rest of your grade. If you understand the material you will get an A in his class. His lectures can feel somewhat boring and rudementary, but he's a good option for calc2
This guy is a great teacher. He's willing to help you if you ask, and he responds to feedback from the class. I also like how he gives you credit for doing the homework, which some professors refuse to do. His tests can be difficult and discouraging, but he tends to curve them. He's one of the best math teachers at Valencia, in my opinion.
I greatly enjoyed this class. The tests were difficult, but the homework and quizzes could only help you and cannot hurt you.
Great Professor. Tests are hard, but he gives a good curve when he sees the class needs it. Takes questions from the class easily, and at least tries to respond in a clear manner. This was the only professor I ever passed my math classes with, so I'm happy. Great guy, hope he continues teaching.
took him for pre-calculus. would not recommend. He does not give test reviews, and his tests are extremely hard and frustrating (this coming from a Math Major) He also assigns 10-20 hrs of homework a week for a 3 unit course. both written and online not unpassable, but be prepared to teach yourself and pour your free time into homework
Tricky class. He bombards you with crazy lectures and examples and homework. So much you SHOULD feel confident in his class. But (got an A in precalc and B in calc I) his tests are ridiculous and completely throw you off. I did not like him at all. Failed the class. Should be noted, he has a 2nd homework option which does help.
After taking a Precalculus course with Mr. McCloskey in Spring 2015, I would definitely recommend it. Any time you have a question about anything, the professor will be there to answer it for you. He is very patient, and explains topics clearly. Though you are assigned a bit of homework every week, it's for your benefit. +It's college we're adults
He is very friendly, kindly.
THIS IS NOT AN EASY A!!! Calculus 2 is generally a difficult class. McCloskey is a great professor BUT he will make you work for your grade. Tests are tough but he gives partial credit. He's always there for you if you need help and he genuinely cares about his students. I got an A but I spent 10+ hours a week studying.
He is the nicest Prof I've had so far. He teaches very well and will help in any way possible. He is understandable and will work with you if you are having difficulty in the class. Take him for sure.
He is a sweetheart. I took him Spring 2015. You can get the textbook from online. You will need it because of the problems. I had surgery during his class and he worked with me. He is very intelligent, caring and lenient. If you fail it is on you! Such a great professor! He isn't strict on attendance but it's important. PICK HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's a good teacher for someone who learns math at a good rate. I would say study and you'll do fine. He replaces your final test grade with the lowest grade, and you have a chance for retake. Study and do the homework, ask questions and you'll be find. Once you know the style of the teacher's grading and the style of the test you can pass.
Def would take him again!!!!! He is a great professor. He is calm and always goes through the homework with the class before you have to give it to him. The tests are fair, there's a calculator and a non-calculator part, and the problems are similar to the ones he does in class. If you are commited to the class, it an easy A.
By far the best math professor I've ever had! I got through College Algebra, Trig, and Pre-Calc with A's, but never learned/retained anything. Chug and dump. Professor McCloskey makes sure that you learn/re-learn those pre-requisite courses to prepare you to solve any Calculus problems! I got an A in Calc, and it was not easy, but well worth it!
He is the best Math professor.
Mccloskey is a great math teacher who will take lots of time to answer questions and go over homework. Gives good partial credit on tests. If the material is easy to you, he won't care if you skip class or hw assignments.
This teacher is great and a good person, he can curve the test generously and there is opportunities to extra credit, i hate math but i still did it. WORK hard and youll do okay!
Tbh, he is a very good professor. Calc 2 is a tough course no matter who you take it with, but he is a good teacher and answers any question you dont understand until you understand it. You need to Practice practice practice, work hard for your grade and you will do good. He also curves his exams.
One of the best Math professors I ever took. He cares about his students, his content, his tests, and shows it each and every class. He'll take his time to explain the material step-by-step and makes sure that each person gets it before moving on. The only way you'll pass is if you show up, complete all the HW, and study for 15+ hours a week.
Very good professor, knows his stuff. Highly available outside of class, and very clear in how to succeed. The tests aren't overly hard, but are still challenging enough to teach you what you need to know. Tests make up most of the final grade. Homework optional, but you need to really know the material to skip it.
Class is not mandatory and livescribe notes are posted to canvas (+5 points on next test for each time you take notes). Takes the time to answer homework questions in class and ensures all students are on the same page before moving on. Solid, caring professor. We dubbed him the Bob Ross of math
Mr. McCloskey is a solid choice for a teacher. His class is entirely graded by tests so if you are sure in your math skills, you don't even need to do the HW. Not recommended though as the extra credit HW in his class is a lifesaver. He grades fairly and takes your effort seriously. I would have gotten a B but he bumped my grade for good effort.
Professor McCloskey is extremely caring for his students and always thinking of what's best for them, especially during the pandemic. Awesome professor and everything is open book. Zoom meetings are pretty much there for you to ask questions but I advise for you to attend them as they help you gain some more clarity of different problems.
Professor McCloskey is so nice and understanding. Throughout the pandemic he does his best to make sure you grasp the material. Arguably one of the best math professors I have ever had. ZOOM sessions not mandatory but help so much with tests. You get a feel for how he will approach each test question to better prepare. 10000/10 professor!!!!!!!!!
Prof. McCloskey is flexible and wants to make sure you succeed in the class. Each unit he will attach tons of videos covering the topics to supplement the text and lectures. Assigns a few HW problems per section, but makes you show work to make sure you actually understand. Absolutely email him and ask for help if you're struggling.
Professor Mcloskey is an amazing professor, he's funny and caring. He gives a lot of opportunities for you to pass. The homework is optional and it can only boost your grade. He also gives breaks in every class. TAKE HIM!
I'm taking him for calc 1 next semester. Has 4 tests & are worth most of your grade. Has online HW & Written HW for every chapter that count as extra credit. Doing the HW only helps your grade. 1 final exam. Lectures are straight forward & examples mimic exam questions. He posts many resources and class notes. Has office hours. Does make up tests:)
To begin with Calc 2 is pretty difficult course that requires plenty of studying on your to do well in the class. But Professor McCloskey is fairly thorough with his lectures and will answer any questions you ask. Your overall grade is mainly just your exams, homework and quiz grades can only help your grade and not detract from it.
Great professor. Probably the best for Calculus I've had yet!
Love this man! Calc 1 is the easiest out of the 3 so this was easy, just make sure to know your Trig. McCloskey does give HW for every section we cover both written and online. You do not need to turn in written until the unit test for that section covered. Online HW is all due by the final but don't slack since it does help study for the test.
Arguably the best professor I've ever had at Valencia, he's fantastic! Homework isn't exactly mandatory but it'll only help your grade and get you ready for the tests. He isn't strict with attendance either, as long as you're doing your part. I took him for both precalc and calc 1 and I never imagined excelling in these classes if it wasn't for him
Very difficult class with a helpful professor who will give you multiple chances to prove you learned the material. I came in without any of my Calc 1 foundation intact and bombed every single exam with a D or below. McCloskey is very forgiving and allows you to a retake exam for the first two, and your final exam grade replaces the lowest one.
If you're used to mixed-mode don't bother taking his class. Dates are all discussed in person and are never listed on Canvas. Lessons are done entirely in ALEKs with minor in-class teaching regarding the steps required to learn course material, just HW review. Only semblance of my grade was a printed report card I received halfway during the term.
Took him for precalc, calc 1, and calc 2. Amazing lectures, HW counts as extra credit, drops lowest test grade, partial credit on exams, great at answering questions, good office hours & zoom hours, gives great feedback. He is a great professor 100%!
I don't necessarily have anything to say bad about this professor other than the fact you have to be prepared for anything and everything you haven't seen. He does give out homework and most of the time it is very helpful. But he makes the questions so mixed up with insane variables or things that are 10x more difficult than when you studied!
He is humble, extremely caring, and encourages people to ask questions. Assigns extra credit for those who took notes for students who were absent. Every test you can bring in one paper as a CHEAT SHEET (or notes)! He also curves. IF YOU DON'T TAKE HIM, YOU ARE BASICALLY LOOKING AT A POT OF GOLD AND RUNNING AWAY WITHOUT IT.
He is a great professor but always expect the hardest questions on the exams. Go back and redo the hardest homework questions and you'll be fine for tests. He does explain the content well, coming from someone who's never seen calc before. Definitely use his office hours if you are confused on content
Professor McCloskey is fantastic! The class is challenging, but he explains concepts clearly. Completing homework and using resources like unstuck study are key to success. Attend office hours if needed.
Great professor, tries his best to make a difficult class easy to understand. allows retake on the first three tests, and you can earn extra credit if you take notes in class. As long as you get at least a 50 on the final then you will pass the class.
Excellent. Good and thorough lectures that properly elucidate the material. Funny guy and doesn't just talk at us but interacts with the class. Attend the lectures definitely, as they are pretty helpful. As others have said, homework only boosts your grade, and the lowest grade you can get for each unit is your test grade: four tests plus a final.
Really good calc 2 professor, his teaching style is pretty good, he gives a good amount of homework but it is necessary for learning the material in class. 4 exams and one final pretty fair grader and gives partial credit. Probably best for calc 2 in Valencia.
Took calc 2 with him in Summer. I would definitely recommed him. He is very understanding and excellent choice for Summer. He curves and homeworks increase your grade. He just wants you to try your best. Homeworks only increase your grade. Professor is generous in grading. It was a hard class but he made it look easy. Work hard and try your best.
Very understanding. Generous grader. Homeworks increase your grade. Try your best and you should pass. He wants you to try. Curves and partial credits. Hard class professor makes it look easy. Funny and tries to change mood our mood when tired. The best choice for summer calc 2. study handouts and written hw well he getd hard question from them.
If you are going into a higher math class, he will prepare you for it. He is a good lecturer, but he can sometimes teach a little too fast. He links YouTube videos for extra help. He gives a lot of homework, but doing it helps raise your grade and prepare for the exam. His exams were also very fair and easier than the homework. He also curves!
He is a great lecturer, although he can go fast sometimes, and he links YouTube videos in Canvas for extra help. Gives extra credit opportunities, each test you can use a cheat sheet, curves the tests, very entertaining lecturer, gives a lot of homework, but it helps boost your exam score. I took calc here instead of at UCF, and it was worth it!
Took him calc2 and calc3, he is amazing. Gives lots of partial credits.
Very nice guy, extra credit and easy to understand
Moves quickly and doesn't teach Had to put hours into studying just to understand the material to pass He's never consistent changes his mind a lot He never let us look at our grades online We'd have to go weeks without knowing our grades You will get so overwhelmed scrambling to learn that you will slack in other classes because its time consuming
