I liked the class alot. He was interesting, but his tests were really hard. He was a nice guy.

Do what he says...go to class and you'll be fine. The tests ARE hard, but the material comes straight from his lectures, quizzes, and study guide.

Very knowledgeable and professional

This class is not that difficult if you just show up and do the readings. Those of you who thought it was hard probably didn't put any effort into studying. This class was one of the easiest/most interesting classes I've ever taken.

Try to avoid this professor. Too many stuff need to be study. Hard class! When he said the test is easy, it mean the test is hard.

Tests are tough (have to know everything he says in class, what's in the book). Grades papers tough. Unless you enjoy studying 10+ hours for tests to do well, I don't recommend him.

Will destroy your GPA. His "curve" is a true bell curve so you could have more Fs than As and only 32.5% of students get a B- or better and 28.5% students get a D+ or worse. Avoid if possible.

This class is HARD! If you go to class, read the text, and continuously study you will do good! The is definately not the class to put aside - but he is VERY helpful if you talk to him!

McElroy is extremely helpful to anyone who needs it. He will go out of the way to make sure that you understand a concept. He uses good examples in class to relate to the book material. His tests are hard, but if you study and understand the concepts discussed, you should have no problems. Heis a great guy and I would recommend taking him.

I can't believe these reviews, I went to class, took notes, and read the book and did very well on the tests. The test questions all came from class or book, no surprises. It's college, you do have to try to do well. People need to be honest about the lack of effort they put forth and stop having a self serving bias. Read book and notes, not hard!

Tough class. He is full of himself and believes that his class is all important. So he makes tests that are very difficult and gives quizzes at completely random times. Attendance every single day is important.

Best prof at ISU. I wish more profs would tell people to shut up, turn off their annoying phones, and pay attention to the material to apply it to every day life. This class is hard because it makes you think, unlike people who just want to show up and get an easy A. I would recommend this class to anyone who holds themself to a higher standard.

McElroy is an excellent professor. He does expect you to learn several concepts & apply them. This is not the class to put aside. But he is very friendly, professional, and willing to help. Utilize his office hours! He has an open door policy. Don't read the daily or send texts in class, or he'll put you on the spot!

It's a hard class, and you need to keep up with it. But McElroy is a great professor. Probably the most friendly and professional professors in the Business program. He's very approachable. Other posters on this site are correct: Stop by his office frequently, it really helps!

I thought he made the class as simple as an intro class can be. The point of an intro class is to give you a taste of everything on that subject. I thought the short answer part of the exams were a lot easier than the multiple choice. As long as you study and use his office hours, it isn't a hard class.

Easy class. The other comments on here are obviously from people who didn't try hard enough. Don't miss class, READ THE BOOKS, pay attention and you will get a good grade. He's not a bad teacher, and this is not a hard class, some students are just stupid.

There are a lot of people who write this class off as too hard to get a decent grade, so they either end up dropping it or getting a poor grade. Mcelroy is a great professor, very helpful, you MUST go to class everday to succeed This is a very hard class, you have to study A LOT and read the book. If you put in the effort it will reflect you grade.

Effort is the great equalizer, if you put in the effort you will get a good grade, don't let other people outwork you in this class, the only way you will get a bad grade is if you dont put in the effort. Performance=f(effort and ability), largest emphasis on effort!

Very tough grader but understandably so. I study like crazy for this class and am still barely passing. I think my dislike of this subject in general has brought me down. Attend all lectures as much of whats on the exams comes straight from what he says in class and not from the book and he gives pop quizzes. Take it with someone else if you can.

Take notes or you have no chance. His slides are just outlines of what he talks about and hardly anything on the test comes from the book. He is a good professor but this is not an easy A. If you learn how to apply the information most of the test isn't too bad. He tells you which sections the essay questions are from, so study those well.

Good teacher; if you are interested in the material, you will enjoy learning with McElroy. However, he is not very clear in class about what exact material will be on the exam; the amount of stuff from the textbook is never clear, and you have to just study and memorize it all and hope you luck out.

I had McElroy at 7-9am everyday for a summer class, and I thought he did a great job at facilitating discussion and helping you to stay awake. He is energetic about his subject and is pretty friendly towards students, even through I never went to his office hours. Tests are hard,but he gives you exactly what you deserve.

If you are looking to actually get something from a proffessor he is great! You do honestly have to study, but he is really passionate about what he teaches. I recommend sitting near the front because he will notice your effort. I really like his class and I've learned a lot from it. He has small 2 question essay exams that help. Dont skip class.

McElroy comes off as a hard professor at first, but he is very intelligent and knows his stuff. He has 5 short answer exams, 2 assignments, 2 test, and a final. I recommend studying the multiple choice in the section review, also the vocab. This helped me a lot! Go to class and you'll do fine.

Tough class! However, he's a good teacher and explains material very well, best teacher I've had that does that. He'll help you if you have any questions at all. Go to class every day! You miss one day and you're screwed. Don't screw around in class b/c he'll know and call you out on it in front of the entire lecture hall. 3 SA & MC exams and 4 HW'

This class really is not as hard as everyone says. If you go to class everyday and pay attention, he tells you everything you need to know. You definitely earn your grade his class. He's very good at explaining the material and giving good examples. Go to class and read the book and you will be fine.

People that rated him poorly obviously didnt put forth the effort. He is VERY helpful. If you need help, visit him during his office hours, he is more than happy to explain things. This class is hard but if you study like you SHOULD be doing in college then you won't have a problem. Great guy and I definitely recommend him!

He genuinely cares about his students. People who fail are obviously not studying. If you attend class and at least stay awake the test should be second nature. He does a very good job explaining things and is more than helpful and patient.

If you don't study your notes and don't go to class expect to fail. He is tough but it is possible to get an A or B. Notes are the key to passing! Also if you need help he will help you!

Very Good Teacher, Go to class and take notes and you will be fine. Short Answer Exams are graded tough but will not destroy your grade if you don't do well.

IF you want to learn,want to challenge yourself, this is the class to take! Read the chapter and take notes during lecture, he speaks clearly and puts in a lot of effort! (grading short answers timely and assignments for 100s of kids weekly). However, If you're worried about your GPA then you don't have the confidence in your ability to succeed.

Reading all the negative reviews about him, you would think he was the devil but that is far from the case. The class is not easy, but if you respect it and do the readings and keep up, you'll do fine. I overall liked the guy, thought he was interesting and was passionate about the subject.

Really, the guy is not that bad. He knows a lot about the practicalities of MGMT, but is a little strict on grading; being as that 70%=C, and the curve is only up to that. Just listen in class and write good notes, don't expect an A, unless you are a perfectionist. Someday the university will mandate his grading scale like the other core classes.

I really loved McElroy! His class was SUPER hard, but all of his lectures were really interesting. His tests are essay and multiple choice, and he has quizzes throughout the semester, but help you be better prepared for tests. Reading textbook and readings is crucial. He wants you to do well, and be active to get participation points!

Basically if you go to every lecture and take good notes and learn them for the test, you should be fine. I never read the book but was fine. I don't know why so many ppl are griping, he's a great guy, he just expects excellence. Just work hard and you'll do well, this is a 300-level college course people, don't expect a cakewalk.

He's very knowledgeable and will help you if you need it. It's a VERY difficult class and he nit picks everything. You will learn a lot more than you would in an average class, but your GPA will drop and you'll spend your entire life studying/stressing

I sense that the people who have rated this prof. poorly didn't work very hard in the class. If you put it the time and study the class is straightforward and logical. You will be required to work hard in this class!

Always attend class and take good notes and you will do great. Don't expect this class to be easy, but if you study hard you will pass. I never got an "A" on his exams but he gave enough extra credit to push my grade to an "A". Also he rewards students that work hard and do well.

You need to do very well on tests and quizzes to do well in the class. Essay and multiple choice based, he really does test your understanding of the material through the essays. Attend lectures and pay attention along with thoroughly studying your notes. If you ask for help, he is always more than willing to help you

Professor McElroy is honestly a great teacher. People have trouble, though, because he expects his students to do what he says which is usually less work than they feel like doing. If you do the readings, you'll do well. If you show up and take notes on the slide handouts, you'll do well. If you participate, he'll appreciate you and you'll do well.
