I had so much fun in the class! I took it because my friend recommended it, and I'm so glad that I listened to him. I would love to retake it just to hear the stories again. McKenna is fair, funny, and willing to help if you need it. Attend the class, do the homework, read all the chapters! Don't be late! Most fun/best course I ever took.

Decent guy, class wasnt hard, very funny, and willing to help you. Was on a power trip at times and actually seemed to enjoy dropping people for lack of attendance. Also was late many times to class but wouldnt let us in late. Brought political views into class, which was annoying. I wouldnt drop the class because of him but not recommended.

Everyone seemed to find him amusing, but I found him extraodinarily obnoxious. Seems to give the impression that drug use is cool/macho, and all while teaching against it. Misogynistic, bombastic and egotistical. Would not recommend.

Mr. McKenna is hilarious, his vulgar health-related humor is worth taking the class for alone. Not to mention the homework is always very straight forward and usually right from the book.

Have mid-term test and tests for each chapters, they are all multiple choice and he will provide outline. Have 2 papers and a final paper but he will give you outline for what to write in the paper. Attendance is very important and he always want his student to participle in class. great teacher!

McKenna made class extremely interesting and it always went fast. I found it super easy. McKenna is pretty cool but he thinks way too much of himself. He goes off on tangents about personal experiences that are irrelevant to the class. He also gives the idea that drinking and using drugs is cool, but teaches the opposite. Overall not a bad class

I love Mr.M!! He is absolutely amazing and has no problem sharing the mistakes he has done in his life and helps you learn real life lessons with his stories. His lectures are very entertaining and if you have the time to read each chapter before going to class this course will be an easy A!! I absolutely recommend him to everyone =)

Intermediate level of difficulty, but McKenna makes the material so interesting, it's impossible not to retain the information he conveys & describes. Definitely read the chapters so you don't enter lectures blindly, or at least do the study guides which definitely help with the chapter tests. Mr. McKenna is the ish. Period. Anyone who has rated him badly is mad because they didn't bother to listen to him when he said come to class and don't be late or you'll get dropped. The guy is real, and actually cares about his students. He is super helpful if you meet him outside class too and doesn't mind taking the extra time to help. 5.0

The class itself was very interesting. Prof. McKenna knows what he's talking about and expects you to be prepared for classes. Tests are fair, he'll tell you what's on them and will discuss them. If you study the recommended amount, you'll do fine. Loved the class!

Hes pretty awesome. Funny and down to earth. Um for those that did poorly in his class may consider taking it upon yourself to LOOK UP THE STUFF HE TELLS YOU IS GOING TO BE ON THE TEST. Pretty much all a's on his tests and i never read... i only looked up what is said is going to be on there. Hes a keeper.

He is a great teacher and really cares about his students, as long as they care about themselves. You can't go in there with a bad attitude and not try and expect him to care. The tests are difficult but he tells you what is on them, so study and read! His stories are great and very interesting,and they don't take up the whole class.

Solid class and professor. I had him two days a week for an hr and twenty at a time and class just flew by. You learn a lot in this class and it's not just memorizing. Good stories and life lessons. Somewhat of a kid himself and he'll joke around with you and tease you and thats why this class is dope. And its about dope of course its interesting

If you don't like being called out in class, don't take it with him. He speaks his mind, but he knows what he's talking about! I enjoy his class, he's easy to listen to and has great stories. He's a hard grader, but just come to class and study and you should do fine.

He is an awesome guy to listen to. He knows his stuff and he expects that you will too after he teaches it. He gives you almost everything that will be on the exams, just need many hours to study. There are very few assignments in the course and there is never homework. I really enjoyed taking this course, he knows what he was talking about.

Prepare yourself, IF you are an idiot do not go to his class because he does not deal with idiots (as in coming in late, talking back,talking during class) hes legit. McKenna is such an interesting guy. He can get on a few people in class, but that is just his style. His stories about drug use in the past really made the class for me, the powerpoints from the book did get a bit tedious over time. The tests are fairly easy if you look over your notes, and the couple papers weren't too bad.

By far my favorite professor at MCC. Professor McKenna is an inspiration, his story of his recovery from drugs an alcohol makes his lectures much more interesting. I loved coming to his class, as a fellow addict in recovery I could relate to much of the content and found studyingparticipating to be fun! A must take!!! Amazing professor! :))

Prof. McKenna knows a lot about drugs and cares that students gain knowledge from taking his class. He seems harsh but he lays out all of his expectations in his syllabus so nothing's a surprise. You have to show up to class on time and hand in college level work. His test questions are taken from the text and are tough. Overall would recommend.

This was a refreshing course to take not knowing what I was getting myself into. Professor McKenna is very real with you about everything including; grading, attendance, and his life experiences. Do the homework and study for the test right out of the book and it's an easy A. I looked forward to this class because he made me laugh. Glad I took it.

I enjoyed HED 110 a lot because Professor McKenna made it fun. He was very open with us and was very relatable. Gives one quiz every week and assigns a self assessment based on the chapter in the textbook every week. The quizzes were exactly what was discussed in class and the self assessments were graded very easy. DON'T BE LATE!

Absolutely one of the best professors I've had. He speaks from real experiences and is very open with his past drugs and alcohol addiction. their is always a story in his lectures which makes things interesting. Another thing don't come to call late you won't be let in and NO CELL PHONE USE during class (his biggest pet peeve)

Professor McKenna was one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. He is extremely innapropiate (in good ways) and hilarious and his classroom is a casual atmosphere and everyone talks to him during lecture. There is a short paper(1.5 pages) and a very easy quiz due every week. He is an easy grader, and overall a wonderful open teacher.

McKenna is really a good professor. The class is hard but he really tries to make sure everyone is on the same page before moving on. You really have to know your stuff when it comes to his exams, they're pretty tough.

At first I didn't really care for him. I thought he was very arrogant. I started to warm up to him though. He is very crude and vulgar. But he makes you stay on track. He keeps you engaged. If you need help he will help you as best he can. Expect to study 10 hours. Otherwise you won't pas. 10 HOURS! Not minutes!

Easily one of my favorite profs at MCC. His knowledge and insight on topics is impeccable and he obviously really cares about what he is lecturing. Class is an easy A as long as you always read the book and do your study guide. Lectures are full of info and always so interesting to listen to, McKenna is a great dude and a great teacher.

If you need to stay focused to learn probably not the best. But he loves to ramble on with classmates about anything.

This is one the best MCC professors I've had. It took a little warming up but I understood his personality. He is a fun dude just like the rest of us and he is great at teaching and getting you involved. The only thing you need for his class is to come to class/take notes, read your chapter, write your paper and pass your small quiz. super easy!!

Mr. McKenna is truly one of the best professors at MCC. He has a strong Long Island sense of humor which not everyone finds funny. I found him hilarious, but aside from that he is a really respectful and caring person in general. He makes it very clear that just because its health classes, you still need to attend and do your work!

He's a really funny guy and speaks from experience. He will pick on anyone at a given time to speak about something/your experiences and you will find that out right away. For tests you really need to read the textbook and study because they can be hard. He doesn't take any bs and expects respect. Overall good teacher and class

He is strict on his attendance policy, if you go over the 3 day max make sure you participate in class discussions! He holds review sessions the Sunday before every exam!

Absolute favorite professor and I wish I had him for every course! Speaks from experience & is absolutely hilarious. The stories during the lectures make the class a lot more fun. If you miss over 3 classes you will fail. Studying is helpful for each exam, but if you pay attention during class the tests aren't that difficult.

Professor McKenna is a real dude. Whatever he says is what he means to say. In lectures he'll explain some of his personal experience with subjects as examples, and they can be very entertaining. If you want to do well on the quizzes, read the book, his lectures cover about 60% of the material.

Prof McKenna is laid back and funny! He doesnt ask for much other than participation and that you study! I had a hard time with the tests because I didnt study as much as I shouldve. I shouldve gotten a B in his class but he gave me an A I can only assume because I did the extra credit, had perfect attendance and participated a lot in class.

James Mckenna is the REALEST professor I've ever had the honor to learn from. The dude is a living legend. You take this class and realize, damn, how have i not met this guy before. He brings knowledge and expertise in the subjects he teaches that not a single other person could. You will regret NOT taking his class. Do yourself a favor.

He made a strong impression and was one of the few people I met with an actual personality. He's pretty old school too. He liked to say "You get what you get, nothing more, nothing less", which sums up his grading policy. He wasn't the harshet grader, but he was not a soft one either. Even though his jokes aren’t always pc, he always took important topics seriously and wasn’t ever insensitive. Very intelligent way of looking at things and his policies are incredibly fair. Attendance is mandatory but that’s not a bad thing. Discussions and lectures are very interesting. I learned more so in class than in the reading.

Professor McKenna will keep you entertained while you're learning in class. Attendance is mandatory and counts towards your final grade, but you'll end up wanting to be in class anyway. He shares personal stories that compliment the topics he teaches and gives you the opportunity to share as well. Assignments are pretty easy. Hands down top 5 prof.

My favorite teacher ever. Absolutely hilarious in class and the stories he tells are burned into my memory forever in the best way. Every day I would leave that class completely shocked that he is allowed to say the things he says in a school setting, But honestly, I feel so much more educated from it than any of the other classes I've taken.
