i usually don't like challenging teachers, but mcwilliams i totally recomend! he's funny, knows his stuff, and makes you want to learn. light hearted class about heavy subject matter.

Professor McWilliams is really entertaining and his lechures are interesting. The TAs are really hard on the essays so be sure to use the text and the notes from class. He gives essay questions out ahead of the test so you can prepare...take advantage of this. Funny guy.

I LOVE this class!!! I used to despise history so much, but he is so hilarious and he starts talking about the most random things. Plus he has that awesome bamboo pole for a pointer...I would recommend this class to everyone. You have to attend lectures because the tests are only from that info.

McWilliams is great. Deals with a huge Alkek theater class with style and wit. And I disagree with the comment that he doesn't care about his appearance; I think the scruff is hot! But then I'm from the Miami Vice days. Only beef is that TA's grade & so much depends on who's got your paper.

i did not take history at texas state but i did take one of mcwilliam's electives. he's such a great professor, easy to talk to, entertaining, smart, and hot as hell. sometimes he can be absent minded and disorganized, but i really enjoyed his class. this man knows american history to no end.

Soooo hot. I STILL see him and get butterflies. He's super-ADD but since I am too, I followed him pretty well. Tests are hard but go to class. That's all you need to do to make a good grade.

Very entertaining and charasnatic guy. The lectures are easy to follow, and the quizzes are very straightforward. However, your grade depends entirely on the TAs and they all have different grading standards, so expect your essay scores to fluctuate wildly.

Cute guy but the tests are essay and the TA's grade difficult. Besides that, pretty good lectures with some excitement. He locks the doors 8mins into class too which is bad if you are late a lot.

He is a great teacher. You can tell how passionate he is about history through his lectures. He makes it into one big story, which is much more interesting to listen to than if he were going by the text book. Go to the review sessions; the TAs are very helpful!

This profesor is****! The TA's are tash and none of them have time outside of class for your questions. All of the tests are essay's and are based right off of his lectures, not the book. So if history bores you, you're screwed!

AWESOME TEACHER! Teaches history like it's a story which makes it more interesting. Tests are all essay from his notes; take detailed notes and really be able to expand and explain why for each part of the essay. Quizzes, easy, come from book; tells you what chapter a week before. Don't blow off reflections; go to the writing center for grammar.

Great teacher! I thought History would be really boring, but he has a way of making it interesting and easy to understand. Exams are essays but he gives you the topic ahead of time so you can work on it and quizzes are 5 questions (fill in the blank) over one chapter which again he gives you ahead of time. He loves it when people ask questions.

McWilliams is a great professor. Tests are essay format but he gives prompts in advance. Quizzes aren't difficult if you read the chapters. He makes lectures interesting because he's very passionate about history. If you pay attention at all it's an easy B but an A is totally possible :)

McWilliams was Amazing, I only wish he also taught 1320. But Yeha if you prepare for the tests(he gives you the question well in advance) and read for the quizzes the class is a breeze. I hated history, but he makes it interesting and I actually always wanted to go to his class!

I loved McWilliams! His class was enjoyable to go to. He is a great teacher, and really knows his stuff. Take notes, and listen well. His prompts are given in advance to prepare, and make sure to go into depth, do not just list facts. A B is easy in this class, if you do all you stuff.

He is extremely helpful, and his lectures are very very interesting. In 1310 I made a D and was extremely hard.He tells it more as a story, AMAZING. There are 3 tests (Essays) including the final but gives the the questions ahead of time., 2 document interpretation papers (1 page ea.), and about 4 quizes which you study for out of the book.

Fantastic professor!!!! I really wish he taught another class, so I could have him again. I am not interested in history, but McWilliams made it so interesting. He makes it worth your while to come to class- you WILL be entertained! (Besides the fact, you have to be there.) Great guy.

The lectures are entertaining and he makes history interesting. This wasn't even my major and I enjoyed the class. I recommend attending every class because his lectures flow together like a story, and because his test are 100% from his lectures. My Favorite Tx State professor

Favorite professor I've ever had. He has a great sense of humor that comes out naturally (not just trying to make jokes like some profs). He lectures in a way that makes the history easy to understand, talks to you like you're one person, not 350. And if you're into the cute, nerdy sweater-vest black-rimmed glasses types, every class will be HEAVEN

Like everyone else said, he is hands down the best History teacher! He's completely brilliant (just won some huge award and got 50,000 dollars) and his lectures are great. Going to class is pretty important, but his lectures are so good that you dont mind going. Dont need book, just go to an SI session before the exam :)

I will say that the teacher himself is pretty awesome. He makes the lecture and topic very interesting. My BIGGEST issue is the stupid TA's. I do not know if the TA's are on a power trip but they grade like it is an honors class. Not my first go around and im fighting for a c. I have all notes and record lectures, TA's = F-; Teacher = A+

Great Prof! Bad TA's! He teaches the class as if he is telling a story he doesn't just throw the facts.. i had taken this class last semester the exams were crazy. I think the main reason that I like him is because he gives you the prompt for the essay exam 2 weeks in advance and the final a MONTH before!Awesome!! I have a B+ in that class so far!

This guy is amazing! He weaves History together like he's telling a story. He is funny and he'll make you laugh every time you are in class. The written exams are based of his lecture so going to class is highly mandatory. The two document papers are pretty easy, only 1 page, and he gave out a few quizzes for extra credit that comes from book.

He is an extremely wonderful professor. He is easy to follow and is very entertaining. Has the ability to make you laugh and keep your attention the entire class. Attendance is a must, but with the entertainment level he provides, I even found it easy to wake up for my 8am class with him. Definitely a teacher to take :)

This professor was amazing! I really have no interest in history, but I really enjoyed this class. He gives essay exams that are pretty tough, but if you go to class and take good notes you will be fine. Hilarious guy. Guaranteed laugh out of every class. The only class I look forward to!! He wants everyone to do well but he wont hand you an A. Listen and go to his review session before the test and youre guaranteed to make a good grade.

He only has 3 essay grades all year. The class isnt hard if you go to class take notes and outline your essay before the in-class essay(he gives out prompt weeks before)

I absolutely enojoyed his class. I feel I actually learned history for the first time. He makes you laugh, and gives his lectures as if they are stories. 3 TA's and 3 SI's. You get your exam questions at least two weeks in advance and its so easy to do well. He calls us the 1310 Family. =] Highly recommend him, wont regret it!!

Great professor, if you're taking Hist 1310 I defiantly recommend taking him. Just go to class and the review sessions and you'll be fine. Take the tests seriously and study and you'll be golden. Just pray you don't get the lame TA that never gives an A.... I did, not fun.

I was dreading taking History at TX State, but I am soooo glad I took him! Not only is he a good teacher, I actually was interested in what he had to say! And history is NOT my best subject. Very clear on what he wants; no tricks or surprises. TAKE HIM!!

He is awesome, but would be nothing without his TA's. You have to attend class which can get old at times. Tests suck, unless you write it out before class and have TA's read over it. Rambles. Hates Harvard. Over all a pretty memorable teacher

He's a nice man, but the way he structures and conducts his class is asinine, as if all 300+ students in his class were graduating History majors. 3 tests, all essays. An absolutely horrid class, that will make a former History lover despise the subject. Take this class at ACC

Professor McWilliams spends way too much time discussing the agricultural practices of the colonists & native americans. His tests are poorly structured, as you're essentially graded by how fast you can write. He says that a multiple choice test would be "insulting to your intelligence" which is partially true, but a manageable format would be nice

Professor McWilliams is a fun, engaging lecturer and a cool guy. Like others have said though, this class suffers from his unrealistic expectations of his students. For tests, he expects you to essentially write a History novel in the alotted 1 hour 20 minute time period that you're given. I don't reccomend McWilliams unless you're a History major.

AWESOME PROFESSOR! He actually explains history instead of having you memorize random dates and facts. His lectures are interesting and I enjoy going to his class. His tests are not too hard but you do have to prepare for them. He and his TAs are very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend taking his class.

Really fun and interesting teacher, he teaches the material well and you will learn a lot from his class. His exams are hard but not if you practice them a couple weeks in advance, his course has a fun and inviting atmosphere despite it being in a large lecture hall, and it is very challenging (but not insanely hard)

His exams are haenous and borderline unreasonable but everything else aboout this class is great. The TA's thankfully are understanding of how difficult the exams are, and McWilliams makes it a little bit easier by being an awesome teacher. If you're willing to bust your butt, take Mcwilliams. He's challenging, but a great teacher.

I LOVED Mr.Williams! I absolutly hated history before taking this class but I actually really enjoyed going. His 3 tests are hard and the TAs kind of suck but Mr. McWilliams is hilarious he would refer to us as his "1310 family" and always start out class with a funny sotry about his day. Deffinatly take this prof!!!

McWilliams has a style of lecturing that accomodates to the right-brained, free-spirited individuals due to his quirkiness and lack of organization. For other students like myself, he was a nightmare. He seemed unable to stay on a certain topic and had no organizational skills at all. He pretty much let his mind wander throughout the lecture hall.

This class should be called "Intro to Colonial American History" because that's pretty much the only thing the professor talked about. He's not a bad teacher at all, but I was pretty disappointed that he focused almost exclusively on pre-revolutionary events when the class is supposed to cover events up until 1877.

Professor McWilliams clearly knows his subject but he is also scatterbrained and hard to follow. This makes it difficult to study for his exams because your notes will end up being all over the place. The TA's during the '11 Spring semester were terrible and not approachable at all, which didn't make things any better.

He is erratic, unclear and hard to follow. He would often teach events out of order and heavily emphasize some events (Puritan family life) while discarding others, he skipped Reconstruction ENTIRELY but talked for days about the Puritans. Oh, and how much he hates "personal pleasure devices" aka cell phones. He did not use powerpoint either. Avoid

I was not a hist major and I LOVED him. It is not by an easy class, but history is hard in general at TXST. He is really excited and not boring. I took him twice. Failed the first. The next time I just wrote down everything he said and with titles. He gives you an outline of material for exams. I reoutlined everything according to it and got a 98!

If you have to take 1310, take it from this guy. HIST is hard at TSU, but he will tell you the exam question 2 weeks ahead of time, you can write your outline and get it reviewed by the TA, and then you just have to be able to remember the information on test day. He was an interesting speaker, funny, and engaged. Do turn off your phone, though.

One of the best teachers! Keeps you laughing all semester. There were 3 "pop" quizes and 3 or 4 essay tests. The tests were graded pretty hard but he gave the topics before the test and would look at your outline to help out. COULD NOT MISS CLASS. Lectures were well organized and he didn't give to much information to remember. Loved it

Amazing professor. Not the easiest class,have to work hard for an A. Exams are essays, but you get the topic weeks in advance. 3 Essay Exams, 3 pop quizzes. Has a very dry sense of humor, but cracked me up all the time. Funny funny guy and made history very interesting. Cares about his students and wants them to understand everything he's saying.

Looooved this class! Couldn't have asked for a better professor!He has a great sense of humor and his teaching style keeps you interested. Attendance is mandatory, but even if it wasn't attending lecture is critical to your success! There is 3 tests ALL of which come from your lecture notes. Highly recommend attending review sessions before exams!

McWilliams is a great professor! He is funny and enjoys teaching history. There are 3 essay exams and 3 quizzes. The essay topics are given two weeks in advance, so it's mandatory to go to class in order to get a good grade. The quizzes came from the book. Overall the class was a little difficult, but possible to get an A if you put an effort.

Boy, was I glad to take Prof. Williams class he made history fun to listen too and broke it down really easy for me. I didn't use the book and still made an A in his class. Attendance is mandatory so, GO! Honestly, he lets you know EXACTLY what you need for your essay so theres no way to fail. Go to all review sessions it'll help BIG time!

His classes were long and attendance was mandatory but he told you everything you needed to know. If you go to the TA review sessions they will tell you all the main points to hit in your essay in order to get an A. GREAT PROFESSOR!

To say this guy knows his stuff is a gross understatement. He's Ivy League level. Extremely engaging lecturer and a fantastic storyteller. Tests aren't bad but you may struggle if you're a slow writer. Only complaint is that he's scattered and teaches events out of order. Go back and organize notes after lecture and you'll be fine.

His lectures are AMAZING! He teaches them like he is a story teller! He tries to make history as interesting as possible. All HIST 1310 and 1320 courses are writing intensive, meaning you have to write an in class essay for your test. The TAs held a review session that basically gave us our essays! Hist. major, sen. yr--my favorite prof EVER. Took 3342 Hist of Amer. Cult. & absolutely loved it. The structure of this class is incredibly laid back. Strictly primary documents, average of 2 readings per class , required to blog on them, and 3 quizzes based on lecture thru semester. That's it! Class discussion based. Material is super captivating!

Runs class in a rather unorthodox manner. Teaches on subjects other Professors wouldn't dare touch. Is very hands on-brought in a record player so students could listen to music pertaining to the historical period. He seems to dislike basing everything on a grading scale. Personally, found him rather humorous. The best college professor I ever had.

Teaches history as a story and makes it interesting. Very good at organizing thoughts and making jokes of history. Shows history through his own perspective because he has done his own research. No textbook, all lecture. He is very real and not a "cookie-cutter" type of professor.

He's hilarious! Keeps his students engaged. Holds study reviews before exams. Easy "pop" quizzes. His exams however are VERY detailed; they're all in-class essays. Vital to not miss details he mentions in review sessions. Gives exam question about a week or 2 before exam day. Just write essay, study, memorize important details and you've got an A.

Lectures are long.. sadly boring to a person who is not a history nut. He is funny and tries to relate past events to comical language. He loves what he does and you can tell by his lectures. Exams are essays which much end detailed.

McWilliams is the best! He was funny, charismatic, and his lectures were told as if he was telling a bedtime story. There are 3 essays including the final but he goes everything you need in the essay in his review sessions. So just practice writing your essay over and over and you'll be good! I loved him and would take this class over if I could.

My favorite class ever at Texas state and this is my last of 4 years. Dates don't matter, names, details, etc. It's all about the biography of the nation in one elegant story line. take notes while he tells the story, go to his review session, and as long as you pay attention you'll have an A.

History has always been and is still my least favorite subject. That being said, I would recommend McWilliams for HIST 1310. No textbook or assignments, just lectures and exams. Exams are all one essay question each. Show up to the review sessions to know exactly what you need to write for the exams. All the other days, eh, whatever... Zzzz...

I would highly recommend taking McWilliams for History! His lectures aren't really that bad for it to be a history class. He tells you your prompt 2 weeks before the test and tells you when you're having a pop quiz. Go to class and take good notes, go to TA office hours before the test with an outline of your essay and they'll help.

I took Professor McWilliams' course in the spring of 2015 and he's by far one of my favorite professors. He tells his lectures like a story and it's fun to listen to them because he adds humor to them. There are only three exams grades in the whole course and it's one essay question. He emails you the exam question two weeks in advance

take good notes and prepare for the tests and you should be fine. he gives you all the information you need and he tells you the essay question before the day of the test so you can practice writing your essay. he tells you how to write some of the essays and is overall a pretty interesting guy. very passionate about his subject. i enjoyed it!

PLEASE TAKE HIM. I have so many friends that had AWFUL history professors at TXST and McWilliams is amazing. No textbook, no power points, just his lectures and you HAVE to be there because you HAVE to write down as much as possible because you have nothing else to go off of. I love him

McWilliams really enjoys what he teaches and makes lecture enjoyable. Tests are essay exams and are strictly over his lectures so you have to take good notes because he looks for key events and words in your essays. No textbooks. GO TO HIS REVIEWS. If you miss some of the information in lecture they will save you. I enjoyed this class overall.

Take McWilliams! No textbook needed. The is only 3 essays and he gives you the prompt 2 weeks in advance. Also gives review sessions with all the information you need. Go to class though because it is a lot of information, but he makes history a lot easier than all the other professors at TXST.

This professor is amazing. The TA's grade the papers and don't grade hard. All of the exams in the history classes at Texas State are essay based, but McWilliams has by far the best method for testing. He gives the prompt 2 weeks in advanced to prepare . HE IS BY FAR THE MOST INTERESTING AND BEST HISTORY TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.

He gives a 10 minute review in the beginning of class to recap what he taught last class. There is three essays total included the final. He gives you the prompt two weeks in advanced to the test. No notes for the essay, all by memory. Be careful when writing your essay, there are certain terms that have to be used. Go to his review sessions!

Hes such a great teacher, and knowledgeable! You can really tell how much he cares about this subject. Lectures everyday until the last minute, but really wants to make sure you understand the content. Dont leave in the middle of class, he will call you out. Overall would definitely take again.

BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE TAKEN AT TEXAS STATE!!! Seriously. I was terrified of History classes at Texas State but when I finally took them, I took McWilliams and it was the best choice. As long as you GO TO CLASS and pay attention you will be entertained, pass the class, and actually enjoy learning! No textbook or quizzes or heavy homework. Great guy!

I love this professor. He's hilarious and his lectures are super interesting. I've learned to love history and have even told my friends & family some of the things I've learned from this course because McWilliams gets you excited about history! However, 90% of your grade is based on 3 essays/tests, but if you write what he wants, you'll get an A/B

Best professor at txst I've had so far. In my opinion the most interesting and easiest history class you could take. He makes history fun and you can tell he is very passionate about it. Attendance does not affect your grade but if you skip class you will miss a lot of info. He doesn't use slides so you just have to listen carefully the whole class

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. The only real grades you have are two exams. One of them is where you have 5 prompts (that are stupidly challenging) and you have to write a page response for each. So, you have one class time to write a 5 page response. If you can rock that, then you'll be okay, but if you can't write good and fast, don't bother taking it

Professor McWilliams really knows his stuff and is very passionate about it. His tests are pretty hard in my opinion but McWilliams is so caring and truly wants you to succeed. I didn't get the best grade on my mid term so he asked me to come in before the final so he could make sure that my final outline would get the grade I needed. Very helpful!

professor mcwilliams is a really cool guy! his class is an easy A if you listen and take good notes. He has review sessions before each test and he literally gives you the answers. his test are essay questions however so they require you to write about 4-5 pages to fully answer the question but its easy you just have to meomorize the review

What an amazing teacher. I really recommend him his lectures are pretty interesting and hes very passionate about what he teaches. There are no powerpoints however so make sure you listen and come to class. No textbook is required for this class.

BEST professor Ive taken so far here at Texas State. History can be a really boring topic but he really cares about history and I never once get bored listening to his lectures. I actually enjoy and remember what he says because he is so engaging. No textbook or powerpoints so make sure you go to class. Has a review session before the test.

TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! He wants you to pass the class and is super sweet. No powerpoints/textbooks are used so if you skip you will miss a lot of material. The TAs grade your tests so be aware of that. He teaches like he's telling a story so it makes the class more interesting. Also attendance is taken into account of final grade if asked for a bump.

His lectures are pretty boring unless you really like history. But he is funny sometimes. All the tests are essays which require a lot of memorization but he goes over every single point you need the class before the test. As long as you put every point you will get a good grade!

I have so much respect for Professor McWilliams! He is very passionate about what he teaches and he really cares about his students. Attendance was mandatory at first but he later said it wasn't, due to the number of students not showing up to class. I really recommend him!

Prof McWilliams was a great professor!! His lectures were interesting bc he gave us information in the form of a story rather than just spitting facts at us. However, if you don't go to class you will struggle on the essay formatted tests bc they are lecture based. I would highly recommend him to anyone taking HIST1310, its an easy A.

If you let it, this class may be the most interesting history course you will ever take. He is a fantastic story teller and teaches history the way it should be. He gives you the test ahead of time AND tells you the answers! All you have to do is practice writing the essay and have a pulse. Be sure to take the outline to the GA who grades it!

Loved Professor McWilliams! You tell he only wants to see his students succeed. His lectures are also so amazing! He was not a terrible professor, but I noticed that he went off topic a lot. By that, I mean that he would talk about material that did not need to be included on the test essays. I would say that only a portion of my notes were used for the tests so I felt like he said a lot of unnecessary information. However, if you study, easy A.

Hes a great professor but the TAs/AIs are the ones who will make you fail this class. You can have everything written down on the test straight from the review and lectures and they will still fail you. You wont pass if your TA/AI is bad

Highly recommend to Take him as your History class. Only 2 hmw assignments and 3 exams but your test grade is on WHO YOUR IA is. He has 2 good grading IA and 1 that is a hard grader so ur lucky or not. Definitely watch his lectures its easy to answer the essay but he does do a whole review video on exactly word for word what needs to be written!!

One of my favorite profs, makes lectures interesting and engaging. The only thing is he gets carried away and makes the lectures longer than needed, but he's passionate about it so whatever. He gives you the exam prompt at least a week early and posts a review about what you need for credit. No textbook. Pray you get a good IA though.

He does a really good job of presenting history in an narrative format, which makes it way more interesting and digestible. However, it really doesn't sit right with me that he mandated in-person exams during a pandemic, especially in a hot spot like Texas. That being said, if you can memorize and write you'll do fine.

Many people struggled in this class just because the class is fast-paced and lecture heavy. Professor McWilliams was a great professor and made history super interesting. Be prepared to write based on primary docs and summarize multiple lectures. Honestly the best class I had all semester!

I absolutely loved taking History 1310 with Professor McWilliams! I have never been one for history but he makes it so interesting and he words everything in a great manner. His lectures are easy to pick up on and the assignments are too. His lectures have never felt boring or like you want them to end already. I highly highly recommend!!!

Professor McWilliams was great! His class was online due to covid, so i'm not sure how he is in person, but he was so passionate about what he was teaching, and he's the only history teacher I have ever had where I was actually interested and could remember everything. He is also a very kind professor. Definetly recommend!

Professor McWilliams is such an amazing professor, he makes topics of history so interesting! There is no book to read and no handouts, you take notes as he lectures. Since the only notes you get it but writing them yourself, it could make it kinda difficult. SO DON'T MISS CLASS AT ALL. He's a funny guy and makes it hard NOT to pay attention!

I loved having him as my professor he actually makes history somewhat interesting and keeps everyone entertained. The class is very lecture and test heavy, but he is very helpful when it comes to what will be on the test so as long as you listen and attend class you will get a good grade. There are very few assignments in this class, 6 total grades. 3 tests, which were all essays based on what he talks about in lectures not what you find online. The other 3 were essays written outside of class. He is funny and a pretty cool guy. But BEWARE: THIS MAN TALKS EXTREMELY FAST, he could compete with Eminem.

every essay prompt is given to you a week or 2 before the exam. the class before the exam, he gives you terms that he wants to see in the exam. If you use all of the words, you'll get a good grade. I would write the essay until I had it memorized. Lectures are interesting, some days are a drag. If you don't attend, you will not understand the exam.

This professor is super cool and I genuinely love his lectures but the whole write an entire essay with no notes about more than 5 topics AND go in depth is really ridiculous as a freshman. You have to put down VERY SPECIFIC WORDs he says in the review or else there goes your grade. ppl lying with these easy difficulty rating.

McWilliams is great! His lectures are so interesting and engaging. I highly recommend him for 1310. Attendance is very important though, because he does not post slides or use a textbook. Exams are essays written on paper during class, prompt is given out 2 weeks in advance.

This class is very writing intensive but McWilliams is honestly such a funny professor I didn't even mind it. He gives review lectures before every test and it helps so much. I don't even like history but he kept me engaged with all his jokes. IAs grade all work though, not him. Attendance mandatory because there is no textbook.

Prof. McWilliams is engaging and actually teaches instead of lecturing. The test reviews are incredibly beneficial to the tests. The tests consist of essays taken during the class period, but gives the prompt a week in advance. Writing a practice essay was very beneficial for me. Teaches very well.

Extremely engaging lectures for sometimes boring subjects. Highly recommend taking him as the IAs grade easy. History 1310 has 6 assignments total so be prepared for each one.

Professor McWilliams was great! His lectures are engaging and entertaining. They're no textbooks for this class but he IS the textbook so going to class is important. He makes the material very easy to understand and gives a lot on time to prepare for Tests. I have never been good at history but he made it less difficult.

Dr. McWilliams is the most fascinating professor I have ever taken. His lectures are super interesting and fascinating, and answers questions super well. His exams and other assignments are in essay format, though, so if you are essay savvy this class will be perfect for you. However, you do need to attend every lecture since there is no textbook.

One of the best professors I've ever had. He's really caring of his students and wants everyone to enjoy the things they're learning. There's no textbook and the PowerPoints don't have much info so you must attend lectures in order to do well on the essays. Essays were closed note and taken in class but if you prepare, they're very easy!

The professor himself was great, but please beware of the grading policy. It's graded by very few things, and he's INCREDIBLY specific on what he wants within those exams. He's strict when it comes to exam content, but the class itself is good -- engaging, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like history. Just be sure to focus on those exams

Professor McWilliams is fun. I don't prefer the minimal assignments but some people do. His lectures can be easy to follow most of the time, the main thing is just to show up to class. BTW he usually turns the full in-person class into a hybrid which is nice.

McWilliams is a fantastic Professor, and he knows what he's talking about. Participation in this class matters because he will take notice of your effort and be more inclined to round up your final grade. Just show up and take notes, and run your test outline by your AI. I highly recommend audio recording his lectures for reference later.

Prof. McWilliams definitely knows his stuff and has amazing lectures. The class is only based on a handful of grades but as long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. The AI's are extremely tough graders but I would imagine it is different every year. Overall I loved Prof. McWilliams class and would definitely take his class again.

This class is VERY lecture heavy which is why it's important you show up. His lectures are really interesting and entertaining but his slides ONLY have pictures and no notes so try to write what he says WORD FOR WORD. The exams are essay based questions and ngl they are a lot, but just write down what he says in his reviews and you'll be good.

I loved him! He made the class an "experience." He was clear on what the tests were over but make sure you write down notes during lecture! The AIs helped do review sessions. Tests are essay form and by memory so STUDY the material he talks about in class. You will not pass if you skip/don't take notes. Loves to answer questions.

I highly recommend him!! His lectures are really engaging but theres almost 0 information on the slides, so you have to pay attention to what he's saying. if that teaching style doesn't work for you, I wouldn't take him. The exams are essays, he has a review session before that is basically the rubric. Material is not accessible outside of class

LOVED him, he was so sweet and wanted everyone to pass. Only grades we had were essays for exams and reading primary documents. His TA's were super nice and could have meetings with them to figure out what we needed to get a good grade. Attendance was needed to be able to write the essays, you only get the information from what he is saying. 100/10

He is my favorite professor this semester and I highly recommend taking him! Although he doesn't have detailed slides and you have to listen and write down notes his lectures are always so interesting to sit and listen through. He has a passion for what he teaches and the tests are not hard if you pay attention and take notes.

Amazing professor, who really does care about his students. He is a heavy lecturer but all the information he talks about is important and used on his assignments. He doesn't assign homework but he does have a few writing assignments but he will give a review and clear outline for them. Overall great professor and I would take him again.

Great guy you can tell he loves history! sadly your grad depends on so little. BUT if you go to the class before the exam he gives a review that is GOLD just follow that, you'll do great. I loved my ta but they can get unnecessarily picky, but you can sometimes argue it so just talk to them. plus, you better write fast girl you got little time.

TAKE MCWILLIAMS! If you go to class, you will pass. He has three assignments and three exams that make your grade. There is no textbook because he is the textbook. Talk to your assigned TA and make sure they know you're making an effort and it will reflect in your grade. He is also hilarious and I learned several life lessons in his class.

Biggest advice!!! I wish someone told me was to not take notes on everything. Only take notes based on the study guides that he gives us and use the notes to answer the questions on the study guide! Also remember each bullet point that is on the study guide = easy A on the test!

By far the best professor I've encountered in my time at TXST. He is a compelling speaker and a genuine soul that I would want to talk to outside of class. All you need to do is attend the lectures and you will get an A. That shouldn't be a challenge because he is extremely engaging.

TAKE HIM!!! He's the best professor I've ever had, and I hate history. he has power points but most notes are from him speaking. He has a review before every test (Essays) that basically gives you all the answers you need. He's also such a sweet man and is very interesting to listen too. I really enjoyed his storytelling approach to history. It made it bearable for being a 3pm class. Only con is if you miss a class, he doesn't post his notes, so you would need to ask someone else for theirs. Overall, I love that there isn't a ton of assignments, it's all blue book tests. I would take this class again.

Professor McWilliams did an awesome job teaching this class one of the most boring eras of history to me and he managed to make it fun, he also gave us a breakdown for the final where he literally gave us the answers, I had such a great time and couldn't recommend taking Professor McWilliams enough. History class that should be better treated as a philosophy class. Amazing work from him and very dependable. He is retiring soon, so give him your love guys! I sometimes wish he wouldn't assume everyone agrees with him on certain political comments, but otherwise amazing and very open to debates. Will genuinely challenge you if you ask him to.

Professor McWilliams is a great professor. You can tell he is super passionate so it makes it interesting. I will say we only had two assignments but the tests he gave out were during class and they were essays. He also didn't have a clear review. To even get the review you had to go to the class before bc he doesn't post them.

The easiest A I've ever gotten! Although history is my least favorite subject, he made it easy and enjoyable. He doesn't mind you using resources for homework (if yk what i mean). Exams are essays, but he gives the prompts far in advance and has an in class review telling you exactly what he wants. Super funny and real, love him!

The course relies on only five assignments, so getting an A is manageable if you perform well on them. The downside is the lecture delivery; his teaching style is not very engaging, and he occasionally went off on lengthy, unrelated tangents. Attendance is crucial because no lecture materials are posted on Canvas. He's an OK professor.
