His class is alright! Some things in history are boring but most of them are interesting. He explains in good detail. His test are based on all his many notes he dictates... Good Professor.. I recommen him...
I loved attending this class. He challenged me.
Mills will give you four tests, that's it. No extra credits, quiz's, etc. Will give you credit for SSI.
professor Mills is the Best! I enjoyed his lectures because he goes into deep deatails about about the topic with great enthusiasm. His way of teaching actually helps you picture history events so vivid in your mind that you will actually remember them like a movie.
Good teacher.
Extremely knowledgeable, he goes into great detail and is willing to answer questions. He is an old fashioned professor, uses a lot of transperancies. His quizzes are multiple choice and his tests consists of multiple choice, fill in the blank, and part essay. He is more leanient w/upper level courses. Definetly recommend if you truly want to learn.
I loved this class! Though i dozed off in class once in a while, i was able to keep up with him through voice recording. His tests are as simple as studying your notes from his class and his quizzes are all about reading the textbook! Don't take any test in Mill's class lightly though, you will get owned if you do!
great professor really makes his subject interesting. lots of reading, examples. tests can be easy if you read and go over the notes. really funny teacher as well.
awesome teacher and funny
There are extra credit opportunities every single quiz. There are about 10 quizzes a semester. I would bit take this class if you are a slow reader. But if reading 20-30 history pages a week is easy and okay for you, then you will breeze through the class fine. If you accidentally messed up. Just schedule a meeting with him, and he might hive you extra point. Extremely leniant. Very funny too. Sometimes he randomly shouts in class. Speaks very loud and clear.
This class could be either very easy or very hard for you, depending on how good a reader you are. If you want to do well you need to read the material throughly. He is very helpful though, gives lots of extra credit and his exams are based right off the lectures, so make sure you go to class all the time and take very good notes.
Mill's class is very awesome..its not to be taken lightly though. You have to read to get good quiz grades & be a very good note taker because the exams are based of the daily notes. Overall, he's one of the best teachers i've had. =)
great professor :)
His class is really interesting but his tests and quizzes are hard and comprehensive you will have a quiz almost every friday and you have to read a lot and really understand the material. I really struggled for his class
if you read the text the weekly quizzes are a breeze and tests are over lecture
Love his class. Ull love it!!! Never forget it
No, he's not easy, but if you read the text there is not reason not to get an A. I found his class very rewarding and enjoyable.
Mr. Mills is a great teacher! His lectures are interesting and time flies in his class. If you enjoy reading, take GOOD notes, and do everything he tells you to do...you should be fine.
Awesome teacher!! Class is very interesting. He's also very funny; you'll love the class! :)
He's a great professor and has a good sense of humor. Yes you'll have to take geat notes if you want to do well. His lectures take up the whole class time, but you'll learn a lot. I highly recommend Mr. Mills. He's really fun too. He takes is out to field trips to historical places for extra credit. He's my favorite professor this year! :D
He is absolutely the best professor in the history department. He gives the class in a very funny and interesting way and encourages the students to participate. He is not boring at all and loves his students to take written notes, no laptops allowed in class. But one thing is that you really have to read the chapters to pass his quizzes/tests.
he is a really great professor, very clear and funny, a little sarcastic sometimes but keeps class interested. no laptops allowed but its really for the best you will learn all your stuff. allows you to take make up quizzes but he wont say it in front of the class you will have to go to his office.
He is such a great professor. To pass the class you have to read. It is not hard. Just show that you are interested and he will be kind to you.
Great professor, his class is easy if you read and pay attention in class. For you to do well on quizzes you have to read ,and he's also really helpful if you ask questions.
He's an awesome professor. Lectures are better if you do a little research on the term sheet he gives you before he talks about it in class. He likes an interactive classroom. Just make sure you read and you'll do fine.
I'm love history, and I'm a smart student. All of my grades are B's and higher and I have to say that this was my toughest class. Yes, his lectures are vivid. I loved his quizzes because they were writing only. But his tests were ridiculously hard and I don't know why. I never passed even 1 of his tests. This guy thinks his class is your only class
He's class is very interesting but also is super hard! you actually learn but his test and quizes are really really hard! for every test you have to read about 3 diferent articles plus 2 or 3 chapters of the book.
Dr. Mills is very passionate about what he teaches, especially when he gets into the Mexican-American War. What I didn't like about his class was that he was very monotoned so it was really difficult to stay awake or pay attention in class.
MR.Mills class is interesting and fun BUT IT'S SUPER HARD! His test are really hard you have to read like a whole chapter of a book and like 3 articles of another book.If you want to pass with an A or a B then you need to take another teacher. I failed his class and I have never failed a class in my whole life:(
I failed his class :( you know he appears to be a really good professor but he's actually really hard, the average grade for his class is a F
Great teacher. Stern but funny. You will learn a lot.
I do not like History, but he made lectures very interesting! This class is not easy, and you will not pass if you don't read. Lots of essay questions. So read everything and write a lot of details and you'll be fine :)
he's awsome
Great professor who speaks clearly. His quizzes and tests are somewhat difficult, but all you have to do is take lots of notes during the lecture and read the book. Other than that you should be fine because he gives extra credit questions on almost all of his assignments.
He knows his material very well. All you have to do in class is listen and your notes would be good. He makes you understand the material and learn it.
Clear professor with clear instructions. Lectures are long, but he stays focused. This guy is very flexible if you explain the situation , have valid excuse. Hardest part is tests, He offers a study guide, as well review questions but Mills won't be afraid to use anything from the text so expect to really study for his tests. His quizzes are easy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and would definitely recommend to any prospective HIST 1301 student. His lectures are enjoyable, he is very helpful, and his grading criteria is clear. However, his course does require a lot of reading and he does not provide power points. You must be very attentive and take down everything he lectures in class.
Awesome lectures. He really knows what he is teaching. Doesn't read off powerpoints. You will learn in his class. He is a reasonable person. Read your book or your grades will reflect otherwise. Do what you have to do and you will pass. If you are lazy , don't take this class. He was my favorite professor.
Amazing Professor! Currently taking the 1302 course with him. Yes, it's a lot of reading, but nothing you can't handle. You will enjoy the lectures. He is a man full of life for his age, and has so much knowledge of his subject! I would take him again, if i could. 10 quizzes from tge readings and 4 test through the semester.
REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! Its a must, powerpoints help too, take notes all the time. Gives extra credit randomly.
(US since 1877) Mills is a great professor, but he can be a bit arrogant at times. You need the book to prepare for quizzes and tests, also need to take notes. Quizzes are essays and tests multiple choice with essay portion. Some find writing hard some find it easy so it depends on student. Put in some effort and you'll get an A.
Would not recommend
for each quiz you have to read a certain chapter. for the test you need to read 3 primary sources and he wont say which two he'll use. so be prepared for that. we had to read a book that was for extra credit but if its read it will help you a certain quizes. you will also be required to do a museum visit which is required. overall, he is great.
no no no thanks I had him this first semester and just nope
Excellent! He does not take attendance. He requires you to read out of the textbook and does NOT provide the powerpoint on blackboard. A museum visit is required. You will need 10 scantrons AND 4 mini essay scantrons. His tests are based off the 3 quizzes before the test day and you need to read 3 primary sources. Tough time if you don't read.
hands down the best history professor I've ever had!
If you want the college experience as a first-year student, he's your guy. He's like a grandpa being really funny. He doesn't post his PPTs but they are easy to write them down. READ THE BOOK, he asks stuff about it a lot. If you can, get both books ASAP so you can read them and get ahead with them. Teamwork is recommended.
No homework, 10 quizzes every Wednesday, I read 2 times the same chapter and only failed one because of lack of time, 4 test based on notes and quizzes and also you have to write about a one of the 3 primary sources he will give you (make notes and memorize those), he goes over the answers! Sounds hard, but if you read/study youll pass!
I am very good in history and this teacher I wouldn't recommend for history he makes you read heavily and is old school. He doesn't print out the quiz instead everyone in the class has to look towards the projector and answer questions.
Very passionate and knowledgeable about history, however, if you do not like to read this class is not for you. Weekly quizzes over assigned chapter reading. I had to read the chapter 3 times in order to get the A in the course but then again I am not much of a reader. Exams are fairly simple. Final is cumulative.
A word of warning. Exams are 60% multiple choice 40% essay (on primary sources). Although he gives you sources ahead of time, he grades tough! The rest is easy. If all you sit thru his lectures and show up every day, you will get a D guaranteed. His classes are fun and engaging. He is very approachable and a great listener.
He is very strict, however this is the first time i have actually paid attention in class, and am actually learning. He tries making his classes fun and interesting.
Horrible Just a bad professor that takes his job as a joke.
Professor Mills does not care about his students. He just lectures nonsense and is very unprofessional. Incoming freshman's dont take his class, you will regret it.
Voice record all the quizzes, he goes over them RIGHT after, all on the tests. Read the first page (American portrait) of each chapter. Don't miss class. Read each chapter, the lecture notes are scarcely used on the test. Read the source documents!! He is lowkey kinda mean but he's a good teacher, make sure to find the rhythm and you'll be fine.
Awesome professor! He makes lectures so interesting, and is a funny dude! He is a very tough grader but You will pass If you go to class and actually pay attention and read the chapters. Attendance and the textbook are mandatory.
So this was my first time taking American History (international student) I just had to read a lot to pass de quizzes, he gives the answers after every quiz . The test has the same questions of the quizzes so just pay attention. He is very passionate with he's job. He makes the class more interesting. I love him.
I took this class last fall and he was not a good professor. His lectures were very biased.
Great class and professor
Recommend
Great Professor!
I hate history. Prof. Mills made it bearable and even fun! Weekly quizzes and if you ask nicely, hell send out a study guide. Exams are 30 multiple choice and 2 essay questions, one based on readings and one given to you a week before. Final exam is the tricky one because its only 2 essay questions, 50 pts. each. One group project halfway through
Took Professor Mills for History 1&2. Really great professor! Really liked his lectures. You will read in this class, and do quizzes and tests. He has a clear grading criteria and he is there if anyone has questions after class.
Professor Mills is great, but you will have to do well on every assignment to get a good grade. You will also have to read in order to do well on the quizzes. Overall he is a good professor.
I took Professor Mills in Fall 2019. Professor Mills is tough on grading but really nice. He likes to see everyone engage during lecture. If he sees that, he maybe offers extra credit. He likes to make jokes during lectures. I learned a lot in his class. If I could take Professor Mills for any other class, I would. Highly Recommend Professor Mills!
I took this class online. He gives you about 2 weeks to do a quiz/test. You need to read the chapter in order to do those. Both the tests and quizzes consists of creating summaries and personal responses. No homework grades, or anything, just quizzes, tests, and a final exam. Just answer the question that he asked and you should be fine.
Alot of reading and are expected to memorize 130 PowerPoint slides for quiz. If you have an unexpected emergency not understanding at all. Expect alot of work from Day 1.
Excellent, understanding professor. He gives a lot of reading and writing, but grades fairly.
Challenging but enjoyable
I loved professor Mills when I took him for HIST 1 I just had to take him again for HIST 2. It's a super easy class. You'll have to write around 9 papers through out the semester which is pretty easy because he gives you what to read and what he gives is very interesting and unbiased, raw information they don't teach in HS. I learned a lot!!!
Took Professor Mills for both History 1&2. Amazing Professor! There are Quizzes, Exams, and Essays. He is funny and loved his lectures. Responds fast to emails! Wished he taught my other classes. If you want a professor who will respond to any questions you may have, this is the professor to take! Highly recommend!
One of the best Ive had. He provides the sources/textbook required for the course, super quick classes and easy assignments. Definitely recommend if you want a profesor that is flexible with deadlines/doesnt deduct points for late work. Easy A if you do all your work.
Took him my first year and it was super easy. He gave homework every 2 weeks and the papers were easy. He provides the textbook and the papers are 250 or more word peer question. The midterm was a little bit longer but it's nothing too hard. Would recommend ((:
Professor Mills only assigned my class essays. Never more than 1050 words and always on super interesting topics never boring history7 he grades very fair. 100% would take again and recommend for anyone who needs a history credit
The class itself is pretty easy and the homework is as well. Towards the end of the semester I started to feel burnt out and got lazy and ended up getting a B when it could've easily been an A. Professor Mills is great, just don't be like me and make sure you do all the work!
Do the reading and writing!
He is a very chill professor and his assignments are easy. It may be a lot of reading but if you do it, it is an easy 90+
His lectures consisted of watching videos and taking notes on them, and he also ocassionally gave us powerpoint lectures. His class wasn't that hard it's just a lot of writing and it can be easy to procrastinate on the papers.
You do not need to study because there are no tests or quizzes. You do, however, have to write a 1000 word essay every two weeks from the free online textbook. Attendance is not mandatory but by writing notes in class you get extra points. The class is generally boring since it involves him playing videos for students to write notes.
I took professor Mills during my freshman year, he was very chill and understanding, his assignments are not hard at all, and we didn't need to buy a textbook as he provided for the online version of the book we needed. Just attend class, communicate with him if any problems and he will understand, other than that, his class is an easy A.
Honestly he's a great professor. He's very funny and makes the lectures enjoyable. Grades are just 1000 word essays (based off of free textbook he provides) every 2 weeks but he puts them up earlier so you have plenty of time to do them. 1 group presentation but very easy to do. He gives many extra credit points as well based off of taking notes.
took as a summer course so assignments seemed pretty back-to-back in order to stay ahead, do more than the bare minimum if you want an A, any questions email and he will gladly help, 8 essays to writer in total, no midterm or final, readings over chapters and primary sources, easy A
A great professor. Although I took his course during the summer, I learned quite a bit and I was challenged fairly on my knowledge during tests. There was a quiz every other classtime which forced me to keep up with my readings.
He was okay, pretty boring. Most of the class didn't show up for the rest of the semester.
Class consisted of reading textbook and provided reading. For each week there would be a quiz and every two weeks there would a test. In total 4 quizzes and 3 tests. In the quizzes would be a paper on three chapters of the textbook and the test would be a paper on three provided reading material. Not a very hard grader but do watch your grammar.
Professor Mills was one of the best professor I ever had! His lectures were always interesting and this course involved no homework or tests just a lot of writing but I was ok with that. Anyone deciding on taking him I would 100% recommend. Best professor!
