Dr. Mitchell is the best professor I have ever had. As a graduating senior he is the one professor I will remember forever. He has the gift of staying completely impartial even while teaching a political science class, a feat rarely accomplished.

Only professor I've had that has pretty much been able to get through the whole syllabus, which was very clear. His tests and grading are very fair, and he is not politically biased whatsoever. Colorful commentary and laid back. I recommend Dr. Mitchell.

Very funny and interesting professor. Lectures are fun, but are not always clear. Exams are from notes and a little bit from the book. One term paper, midterm, and a final. Pretty simple class and is interesting. I recommend him.

He is a great professor, and very knowledgeable. He goes by the book, and breaks each chapter down so you can really understand everything that is going on. His test are always from the book, so you always have to do the reading. He is a great professor, and very funny.

Hilarious teacher! I found his sense of humor to be so corky and funny... Easy material and extremely simple exams!!! Took him over the summer and attended about 3/4 the lectures- still did well.

Nice man, knows his stuff. Very fast talker; the tests are more on the lectures, so try to take notes! During the final review, he asked if anyone needed to borrow his book overnight. That was so nice: I have never seen a prof do that before. Really funny guy, too!

This is a very knowledgable teacher. I dreaded taking Poli Sci but he actually made me enjoy it. He made me interested in the news. He is extremely fair and cares about connecting with each of his students. More professors at CSUN should be as allowing of individual views as this professor.

Best professor ever! Very very very interesting. I learned more from him that probably all the other professors combined and would love to take a class of his again.

You leave his class knowing almost everything that's going on in the world. If you work hard and know your stuff you should get an A. Study your notes, which aren't too many, and must be prepared to write 2 essays on both midterm and final. Must turn in an outline for the paper he assigns to see if you're on track so that you could get an A on it.

You don't have to turn in an outline to get the A, but you just have to follow his simple directions for it. I went to class, never read the book, took good notes and aced the class. It was a breeze because he is a wonderful professor who can teach! You do have to put some time into it, but it's totally doable!! GREAT and funny!!

prof is good, makes the class funny and enjoyable. class is started with current events and then goes onto lecture. Sometimes can be a bit rude when answering questions or communicating with student but i think he means nothing bad by it.

Actually he's completely unbiased b/c he's an equal opportunity discriminator...he makes fun of everyone and always plays the devil's advocate..usually to the far neo-conservative Right. I've gotten 2 A's in his classes-the tests are only difficult if you don't study! Oh ya, and he's brilliant!

He is not a republican basher. For one, he goes after everyone, including democrats. To say that he is a liberal and what not, is a conservative delusion. Expect a hard class, and expect to work for your grades. He's a great professor though his style can be a bit abrasive. Besides, I think attacking republicans right now only gains one credibility

Good lecturer, but EXTREMELY arrogant and condescending towards his students. I dont know if I'd recommend him. He's definitely on some sort of ego trip. I never had a problem w/him myself, but despised the way he talked down to other students--some of which were his own age. Otherwise he knows his stuff, is balanced, & is an interesting lecturer.

Dr. Mitchell is one of the coolest profs i have ever had. Its awesome how every morning starts with current events that get us all going. He is blunt at times but he i feel he challenges students to get them thinking. under the rough & sometimes cynical attitude he is an amazing professor who is always willing to help out students.

At first I had a hard time with him, after a few days I was enjoying the class. Current events are mandatory, or youll be pulled outside of class and get a lecture. If you have a sense of humor, the class is a piece of cake. No quizzes but we did have a 10page group paper, easy. He really tries to give you as many points as possible. A MUST TAKE

At 1st I thought he was rude too but realized that he does not give answers because he wants us to think on our own & research answers for ourselves.All throughout the semester he kept reminding us never to give up our rights as Americans & human beings.He's great.

He's a cool professor! I really loved coming to class. You have to be prepared with a current event, just in case he asks you on the spot. He expects you to be an adult, and would not spoon feed you. The only regret i had is buying the books! (CSUN doesn't even want to buy it back!) As long as you listen in class and take notes, you'll be fine.

An interesting professor who knows his subject well. You must have a current event in the begining of class or risk getting picked on at random. Go to class, listen to his lectures, read the books, and do great in his: midterm, 15 page paper, and final! you got yourself a good grade if you got that all in check. Btw know how to write...

Not the easiest professor, but definitley a smart and funny guy. Prof Mitchell has real-world experience in the foreign policy world and you will learn a lot. Make sure your essays are very clear and concise. Its more about content than length.

for the lower div class he is easy. i never read the book but i attended every class and pretty much B+ it. im debating whether or not to take him again and get a A in that class. but for the upper div hes a bit harsh. you have to agree with what he says. rest of the stuff you see here about him is true: hates texting, current events, group paper.

this teacher is so great and fun. Every morning you will spend about 15 minutes discussing current events sometimes he will call on you randomly or people who raise there hand can talk.but i suggest everyday you come with a current event just incase he calls on you. there is also a midterm paper which is 10pages and you can be in group of 5 people

tAKE THIS CLASS. the professor is really cool so laid back. this class is lecture class and yes sometimes the lectures get boring but its better than doing work, every morning you spend 15 minutes talking about current events and he does call on ppl to speak so be sure to always have a current with you. n the middle of the semster there is 10 page

I love Mitchell! If you want to understand politics take him. He teaches you how to be analytical and once you grasp his methods you are ready for the big leagues! Plus he is hilarious!

He talks about current events a lot. He goes off on tangents A LOT during lecture, so it's not really important to go to lecture. He gives a vague midterm review, so just go through the slides on Moodle and find information for each topic. He doesn't cover all the slides. There's 1 midterm, 1 final, and a term paper that's a group paper.

Good professor!!! He tends to go over current events thats happening around the world so be prepare to have a current event. Does not give out homework. There is One midterm test, One group research paper and one Final. I recommend attending his class that way you have a idea on what he is talking about and have an idea on what the class is about.

Fun classes

Prof. Mitchell is AWESOME! Princeton graduate, who really knows his stuff. Quiz (10%; they're more for participation), take home midterm (35%), and take home final (55%). He is a pretty fair grader. Overall, he is really good at explaining concepts, and is an overall nice/witty professor.

He is super sweet and makes class really fun because he gets off topic. But he also gives pop quizzes so just study up on whatever you learn in class. But other than that he gives a bunch of extra credit and loves what he teaches which makes me want to show up to class. Would definitely take again.

For an 8 am friday class this class was fun to go to. As long as you put in the effort, and try your best you will get a good grade!!!! He wants everyone to suceed.

One of the most easiest professor I have had! All tests are take-home tests. However, there is a 2500 word essay to do for this class. His essays are doable, I promise. He assigns book but you do not need it AT ALL! I never purchased it so save yourself money. Just do what the rubric (for all essays) asks of you and you'll get an easy A.

This is my second time giving a review for this prof but this is for POLS310. This class is the easiest one as mentioned for POLS355. Consists of take home exams: one midterm, 2500 word term paper and final! Write what he asks on the handout and you WILL PASS. Got a C+ on midterm, B+ on term paper and probably an A- for final and ended with an A-.

Attendance is non mandatory, but he sometimes gives pop quizzes, and if you're not there for those, you're participation grade goes down. No homework, one 10-page term paper, one take home midterm, and one take home final. Book and lectures help with take home midterms. He doesn't respond to emails, but has office hours.

I regret missing a major portion of this class, my internship is brutal. The lectures I did attend were amazing. Take home midterm, final, and 2 pop quizzes. Be familiar with the powerpoint and book, and you will get a favorable grade. Term paper is difficult, but he provides a clear outline and offers help during office hours. Very funny as well

I am surprised at how many students do not like him. He may be old and crazy, but damn... I respect the man. Went to Columbia and Princeton worked for the Dept of State and overseas universities. Class is graded on one quiz (one essay question), one midterm (two essay questions), one term paper (5-10 page essay), and one final (optional bc online class). If you are somewhat naturally intelligent and you understand how to compose writing assignments this is an EASY class, you will get an A. Very little work. 1 Midterm with 2 essay questions -take home (he double counts the midterm for the final if you like your grade) and final term paper 2500 words. Honestly, this class isn't as bad as these reviews say. He has one written quiz, a written midterm exam, a term paper, and a written final exam. It sounds hard but it really isn't. As long as you pay attention on what he wants on the paper, you'll secure an A. He is very laid back and you'll do fine as long as you do what he asks for.

Dr. Mitchell's lectures are a master class in International Relations. He provides excellent guidance on assignments and facilitates the process of achieving a passing grade. To succeed, you must gain a deeper understanding of the concept and apply it to your assignment. I particularly liked the inspiring stories and career advice that he shared.

Honestly class wasn't bad he doesn't give a lot of assignments so this class was really manageable. I can see how other people would give him lower reviews as he isn't the best at teaching and uses Google most of the time but other than that instructions are pretty clear. I would take it again because there's worse out there he isn't the worst.
