Just not good at explaining how to work things out.
Not clear at times, but if you pay attention, he explains what is going on. I had him for lab and the class was great. Extra credit available and easy quizzes. Gives lots of extra points on tests (14 and 20!!) Nice guy
wow guys.... so bored in this class! wanted to cry, and i had him for lab!! still dull, though not as bad!
He is a new professor and needs getting used to public speaking and time management. He emails homework solutions and lecture notes. He curves tests and extends homework deadlines. He wants you to do well. Nice guy, ask or go to tutoring with homework help and you'll do fine. Really reasonable man.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to email me lecture notes,he finally printed out all 30 pages, stapled and organized, and gave it to me in the following class! He's extremely helpful and understanding.Take his lab; the quizzes were easy and the lab work, no nonsense. Your chances of making an A/B on his exam are high since there are no surprises
If you apply yourself and do all the assignments you will pass with an A or B.Honestly, I am not naturally inclined to doing well in math and science courses, but his class did not overwhelm me and his requirements were fair and reasonable so even I could pass with a B+.He is extremely helpful, kind, and approachable. My money was well spent.
All I can say are multiple choice exams really... no really lol
Awesome teacher! Explains things very well and offers review sessions the weekend before most tests. Really helpful with questions.
He is awesome! I hate physics, and I passed with an A. He is so helpful. He will really do anything that he thinks will help the student. I wish he was teaching Physics 2.
Couldn't ask for a better physics teacher, he has a laid back approach that takes the stress out of a difficult subject. Great for lab too!
What a teacher. If you have to take physics take him. He will help you if you are having trouble. Really cares about the students. Kind of funny. You will not be sorry much better than the other person teaching.
Very good professor. Assigns homework from the book (Which doesnt have to be turned in) and does alot of problems on the board. If you study the examples from lecture and do the assigned homework, definitely will make a good grade. He also gives 5 quizzes and drops the lowest, and gives 3 extra credit problems which counts toward your quiz grade.
Wonderful teacher. Very clear and easy to follow. Examples done on board mirror problems on tests. Opporotunities for extra credit too!!! He really gets the class to think critically about everyday situations with a physics mindset. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Mr. Montgomery is best in the Physics dept.! If you need to take Physics1&2 take him! He is very fair and easier to follow. He gives alot of extra credit and is very willing to help out of class- he gives help sessions outside of class that would definately clarify things for you if needed. He makes Physics very bearable.
Great teacher. Took him for I and II. Go to class,do the practice tests and redo the examples he gave in class and you should get a good grade. I know it sucks getting up, but if you take him early in the day you actually are awake enough to get it.
Great teacher! Notes are online but go to class for examples, do the homework and practice exams and you should be good to go for the exam! MANY opportunities for extra credit, drops a test (not the final) and a quiz. The conceptual problems are tricky, but if you know the material (esp. after doing all the supplemental work) you should be fine.
Great professor - I feel lucky to have taken his Physics II course. Does lots of examples on the board and always brings in demonstrations for class. He relates concepts to the real world and explains topics easily. His exams are fair and he gives extra credit to improve quiz grades. He helped me enjoy Physics. I highly recommend him!
Quizes are easy and are take home. If you wanna get an A on the exam workout a few of the hw problems with a group of friends a day before the exam and you will be good. alot of the class examples reappear in other exams or quizes. HW is not mandatory. just for practice.
Awesome!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I had him for PHY1 and got an A on every exam. He makes physics easy and just wants everyone to do well. He curves his tests and give extra credit all the time. HW is optional and quizzes are take home. DEFINITELY take him, he is the BOMB!
He is great! Gives lots of examples and demonstrates concepts. Take home quizzes are easy and he gives extra credit. Tests are kind of hard but there are practice exams that have similar questions. You don't have to memorize equations because he gives you a sheet to use on the test. Take him if you get the chance!
DO THE HOMEWORK!!! Very fair instructor, extremely helpful. He often gives the class the benefit of lost time, but don't expect it. You can't pass the class without doing the homework, but the tests are right out of the book/homework.
Had Mr. Montgomery for intro to Physics and the lab. He was very helpful and willing to meet with you outside of class. Puts all of his notes online so you don't really need the book though its helpful for practicing. TAKE HIM FOR LAB!!! Gets you going very fast and most of the time the lab is less than an hour and a half.
He makes the most of class time, always willing to help students outside of class, quizzes are take-home, there's an equation sheet for tests, and he's pretty funny. When doing the quizzes and studying for the tests, look at his online lecture notes, they help, A LOT.
This man is amazing. Gives great examples, and interesting demonstrations. Very fair, if you study, you pass. Even gives study sessions. Take this professor for a good experience.
Mr.Montgomery was very helpful. He made practice exams for each test, including the final, gave help sessions, and gave extra credit opportunities. I definitely recommend him.
He makes it impossible to fail. I highly recommend him. And he's pretty funny at times.
Just an amazing person and instructor. Has a great sense of humor and is probably one of the few professors I have ever had that actually honored his responsibility of teaching a subject to a group of students. You will learn physics by going through this professor, not just a grade.
Montgomery is the GREATEST professor EVER. He is brilliant and a master at communicating information in a way that everyone can understand. He uses demonstrations to illustrate concepts. He is always well-prepared and exams reflect what was taught. He doesn't pull any surprises. Great professor...definitely take him!
Awesome professor. I forgot to do one of the hw assignments online and he extended the date for me, all I had to do was ask. He is great at conveying information to students, he makes physics really easy to understand. Awesome professor, I recommend him to anyone taking physics or any class that he teaches!
Mr. Montgomery is the nicest professor I've ever had. He is very helpful, sometimes overly so. His demonstrations are AWESOME. He gives EC, help sessions, and practice exams. Anyone who can get me through physics with an A deserves a medal. I didn't buy nor need any of the texts.
Gave out a ton of EC for quiz and hw average! 1 extra cred question all mult choice exams. Gives practice exams and review sessions. quizzes and hw boost grade completely (30%). Tests you on CONCEPTS! Understand them and review his notes that he posts on BB! Math is simple algebra. Provides demos in class to help you grasp concepts! Go claim the A!
I had him for intro to physics lecture and lab and his is incredible! The notes he gives in class are extremely helpful and clear. I did not even pay attention in class but when I look over notes I understood everything. Totally recommend him!
he does a lot of demonstrations to make concepts very clear. he is very helpful in office hours. he does study sessions before exams. he extends homework if needed. he also gives approximation problems for extra credit.
It's not that Prof. Montgomery is a terrible professor, he just doesn't explain things that well. Yes, he does demonstrations/examples in class, but they are the most basic; they are little to no help when it comes to HW. He wasn't too helpful during office hrs. His response would be "I don't like the way the book did that" and then that was it.
I didn't like how Professor Montgomery did easy examples in class, but then assigned Wiley Plus homework, which was much harder. He explained that he wouldn't put questions that hard on the test; why not just give us homework like we would have on the test then?! The practice tests helped little as they were from Wiley Plus, too. Thumbs down.
Too much homework that takes up too much study time away from tests. Homework is nothing like tests. Sentence taken verbatim from his notes: "So, when a wave slows down its wavelenth must get smalller, smaller velocity, smaller waveleght inoder to keep the frequency constnat f = v/?" Remember, he is grading YOU. Class examples didn't help any.
Had him for lab. No homework or lab reports to do, just the lab manual for that day, and a 10-15question handout online. He gives a quiz at the beginning of every lab, but it is multiple choice and really simple if you scanned/glanced at the lab. Very helpful you missed the lab or cannot make it to the lab as long as you give him prior notice. :)
He's amazing! very clear in lecture, cares a lot about students, quizzes are super easy, mastering physics homework is painful but mandatory, he sometimes curves grades to help students out. If he sees that you're trying and putting in the effort, you'll be fine. WONDERFUL TEACHER and extremely helpful.
Best Professor you can get for physics. Very helpful during office hours. He even extends the online homework if you ask nicely. Lenient grader. Also gives out three or so extra credit that counts towards homework grade. Do well on the four tests and it's an easy pass!
pretty good teacher, goes a little fast, but gives a lot of good examples. he also extends homework, nice guy overall.
THE BEST teacher I've had at UNF. He's awesome and straight forward with everything, Gave out 3 extra credit assignments, and I got nothing below a 90 on his tests. The best teacher ever; he explains everything clearly and is very precise. Even gives out practice tests that are helpful for his tests and the final was very easy!
Professor Montgomery is AMAZING! Not only is he funny but he also is really clear during lecture. We all had a HORRIBLE lecture professor but when we came to lab, Professor Montgomery made everything clear. He is so helpful when you go to his office. He is willing to explain something 20 times until you get it. Definitely take him!
Very nice professor, BUT class was only 50 minutes long. Exams always felt rushed. About 17 or 18 questions on test. Multiple choice with conceptmath problems and no partial credit. Only 4 tests !!!! They count for 70% of final grade BEWARE! Lots of mastering physics HW. Gave about 3 extra credit assignments and 4-5 quizzes that were tough.
Took him for physics 2, it's much different so expect to out in the effort. He uses examples to explain most concept questions but you need to have those clear cut bc he asks those the most. 3 tests and a final. 3 extra credit opportunities added to hw. Be ready to learn a lot and work hard!
Mont's an awesome prof! I thought class was really easy, but I had it in HS, just not AP. He's very helpful, funny, & loves doing examples. Mid terms anywhere from 15-18 ?'s w/ an EXC. He gives EXC & take home quizzes. Only thing was online hw is annoying & harder than anything do in class! I also had him for lab & he loves lab way more than class!
Montgomery was an amazing teacher. He sets up his class so that there are a bunch of take home quizes that weighted pretty high and you can use any help you can get. He was also great with extending homework if you could not get onto the website or if you just had a lot and couldn't get to it.
He helped my physics grade so much! after having a poor lecture professor, he helped me a lot in lab. He gives a short lecture at the beginning with all the formulas you need to answer questions. Easy quiz before each lab. Doesn't look friendly, but he is. I'd definitely take him again for class!
For my first semester at UNF I had Professor Montgomery for intro to physics and I loved him. He really seems to care about his students. He grades on a curve sometimes. He provides practice exams and that help immensely. 70% of your grade is your avg exam grade and the rest comes from take home quizzes and online HW. Very Inspiring!!!
Dr. Montgomery is a great intro physics teacher, he usually brings fun gizmos to show the class examples. Its a little hard to pay attention sometimes and the tests can be difficult, but hes really helpful at his office hours
Montgomery's class was pretty chill and relaxed. You can either show up to class and he'll explain everything in an easy-to-digest lecture or skip the class and study the lecture notes in your spare time. He's a great professor and I'd definitely take his class again.
Montgomery is an awesome professor! He truly knows what he is talking about and wants his students to learn. A lot of homework but he's more than willing to answer your questions (email or OH). Gives you practice exams for tests so you know what to expect. Makes lectures very interesting with demonstrations too. Very funny as well. Highly recommend
Montgomery is a good choice for physics. If you go to class, do the homework and extra credit, you'll pass. His notes posted on line are very helpful and his practice tests are like the actual tests. No surprises here. Probably about as easy as physics gets.
Physics 2 wasn't as easy to get an A in as Physics 1, mainly because of the material that it covered, so go to class! He is a really good professor and is willing to help you! One of my favorite professors at this University.
Physics is a difficult class, but Montgomery is an excellent lecturer. He provides all notes online, gives practice exams, and gives extra credit. He's a funny guy, cares a lot for his students and knows the material very well. Not an easy A, but it is attainable. He also gives a link for a free version of the textbook which is a major plus.
Such a humble professor! He gives great feedback, and all the tools necessary to pass his class. He is kind, patient, and understanding. Take this man for physics, you won't regret it.
Great professor, but he clears his throat so much lul. Counted 413 in a 50 minute class period. Other than that silly gripe, he is a great guy and definitely a professor I'd recommend.
I will take him again if I have too. He's really good at explaining the materials and very generous prof.
My favorite instructor this past semester, he did a great job explaining the material in a way that was easy to understand and really seemed to care about how well the students understood the material. Was very understanding and gave extensions and extra credit. Great professor and I will be taking him again.
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had, physics is hard but he really makes an effort to help his students out definitely take him if you can
This professor was very nice. Taking him for this class is great because he gives and does problems on the board. Take notes and the tests should be easy. He is also available outside of class and will help you out if you're stuck on concepts. Great professor!
THE easiest lab I have ever taken. The labs are quick and easy to do and you can leave when you are done. There are homework but they are small assignments. He does cough A LOT! It might bother some people but if it doesn't bother you, take him because he is AMAZING and knows what he is talking about.
Montgomery is Great! Physics is already hard but he makes it easy. Does plenty of examples to help you learn the information. Homework and quizzes are easy but definitely study for the test. The tests are challenging if you don't study. Attendance isn't really mandatory but you'll regret it if you don't go. Definitely print his canvas notes.
Take him!! Hes an amazing professor. I have not taken any physics whatsoever and I found everything so easy to understand, I have an A going to the final and I feel confident about Ill do well on the final. Gives extra credit, lets you retake an exam to boost your lowest grade, and gives you lots of material to help you study for your test
Prof. Montgomery was a great guy! He made this class very easy because everything you see in class and his practice exams are what youll see on the exams. He also brought demonstrations to lectures about the material which was cool! There were four exams, a worksheet due every week, and some homework on ExpertTA.
I had Prof. Montgomery for both lecture and lab. He was an awesome guy! He is pretty lenient with his grading on lab reports. Also his quizzes in the beginning of class are based on the readings he assigns.
He was a great professor! Attendance wasnt mandatory but if you didnt go to class youd be lost. He was very helpful if you didnt understand. His homeworks reflected what was on our exams. Would take him again!
The greatest professor at UNF. He honestly wants his students to do well and will answer any questions you have! I was dreading taking physics but I really enjoyed the class because of him
He is by far the best professor at UNF. In high school, I hated physics so I left it for my last semester in college. I absolutely loved his teaching style. He would bring props to class to help you visualize what is actually happening and provides many resources for you to pass his exam . I am so sad he isn't teaching PHY 2
You will not regret taking him. By far the greatest professor at UNF. You have 3 exams and one final.
Professor Montgomery is honestly one of my favorite professors I have had at UNF so far 3 exams and one final he makes physics extremely easy to understand and especially for someone like me who isn't good at math he really helped a lot. I never thought I could get an A in this course but he made it very doable.
He is just an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well. I had him for the lab and for the class and it was amazing. I took him in the spring and am taking PHY 2 in summer. I am so bummed he isn't teaching Physics 2/.
Goes over the quiz and test problems exactly as they appear, has worksheets for homework and extra voluntary homework with solutions/work posted, seems to really enjoy the class and I'm excited to take his physics 1 class. Offered a makeup test for exam 1 or exam 2 (only one could be made up) and a unit extra credit problem.
This man is a good teacher. He's here to teach and not make your life hard. Just watch all the lecture videos, go to class, and study. This class is not an easy "A" but he makes it as easy as possible. Just put in the effort. Take him! He's a good prof!
Unlike some other professors, Professor Montgomery cares and puts effort into teaching. His lectures were really helpful and the quizzes and exams are similar to the homework.
If good professors exist, he is one of them. He is extremely welcoming and encourages all questions. He will repeat concepts again and again for your understanding. He is very accommodating when it comes to assignments and is extremely understanding. He is not only a great lecturer but also an outstanding lab instructor.
Easily best choice for physics. His lectures are very entertaining and he is a cool dude. Nonmandatory HW has solutions for practice. I did them and got 95-105 on every exam. There is ec opportunites. Only thing is he had lots of little quizzes and assignments that add up if you don't do them. Optics are his favorite. 100% take him.
Professor Montgomery is a great teacher but his class is also challenging. If you just put in the work you will do fine.
Prof Montgomery is an angel and the only professor you should take algebra physics with. He's very nice and explains physics well. As long as you pay attention to lecture and complete the worksheets you'll be fine. The problems on the exams are just variations of problems from quizzes, worksheets, in-class activities, and the optional homework.
This is the best professor I've had, his classes aren't mandatory and his assignments are extremely easy. He has reading quizzes but because they are online you could just use ctrl f and find that answer. The test are exactly like the hw assignments (not mandatory, different numbers).
This is what a physic professor should have been, he teach physic very detail and give many feedback/help if you are struggling and he gives many opportunity and homework are super fair because he gives the lecture video really easy to understand and examples on canvas to help you through the process and exams are identical to the homework.
Professor Montgomery was the best! He is so chill and gives really good explanations. I had him for lab and he gave explanations better than lecture. He's really nice and the labs are pretty simple!
Mr. Montgomery makes physics easy to understand by using real world demonstrations in class which are both helpful and entertaining. He also provides chapter summaries and video lectures with everything you need to know to complete the assignments and pass the tests. He gives you plenty of opportunities for points and practice in this class.
Good teacher. Quiz every lab period but immediately goes over it after so you retain the correct answers. Very helpful during the labs and available for questions. Easy grader on lab reports.
He is a great professor. Just study the homework and worksheets and you will do fine. I am horrible at any math based subject and somehow got an A in his class. He gives out extra credit and if you forget to do an assignment, just email him and he will give you an extension. He actually makes topics interesting to learn about.
One of the best professors at UNF. He's super knowledgeable and understanding of student's lives outside of class. Took this course over the summer at an accelerated pace and it wasn't bad at all. He provides a lot of examples to help with exams. Exams aren't hard but 60% of your grade. Read lecture material, practice with HW and youll be fine
He is the best physics professor at UNF. He gives a lot of reading quizzes and worksheets, but his exams are just like the worksheets. He explains things well and is always willing to answer questions if someone doesn't understand.
It was a flipped class with a 50 minute lecture and you basically had to take the class on your own and it is a first year class and it is difficult to teach yourself a new concept like physics
Tests every 2 weeks. Lectures are vague and you have to watch videos he posts on how to do things, but I think as a first year physics class that is considered for construction it should be more learning during lectures, it also has nothing to do with construction.
Lots of tests, Lots of home work
I took Prof. Montgomery 2048C hybrid class. The workload was overwhelming. The lectures videos weren't very helpful. In the syllabus it says the lecture videos do not contain all the required material but the lecture readings do. So if you take this class be prepared to teach urself from readings. We also had to buy a 200$ device for at home labs.
he was okay. the hybrid class i think it has too much workload in one week and really in the entire class. the video lectures dont cover everything in the notes and i honestly was lost a lot of the time on the worksheets because he wouldnt explain anything if you looked at the answers. i had to look up how to do a lot of stuff.
Professor Montgomery is a great instructor who makes physics engaging and manageable. Attending class, using the free textbook, and practicing with the homework are key. unstuck study was also a helpful study tool alongside other resources. Overall, an enjoyable and rewarding class.
It was a hybrid class, He doesn't teach you in his class in person it is more like he talks about it then moves on and most of his educational stuff are in videos online, Videos on YouTube taught his materials better. Most of your grades are based on tests every 2-3 weeks and its based on the 20% of the worksheet and harder versions of the topic.
If you don't use his exact method for finding an answer he marks it wrong, during his class I found that youtube taught his class to me better, his exams are mostly based on worksheets you do in class but like a harder version of it. He also makes you buy a 200$ gadget for the labs and midway through the course he tells the class not to use it????
Class is apparently a flipped class so you learn everything outside of class and he just does examples in class. That alone is why this class sucks because he literally doesn't teach you. Grades tough on the tests, practice the worksheets! Also probably the worst handwriting I've ever seen from this guy. It's only bad cuz he goes too fast.
Montgomery is an excellent instructor who provides practice problems that closely match the exams. The workload can be heavy, but doing the practice fully prepares you. My course was hybrid and we only met on Fridays, yet he always provided clear guidance. He is flexible with labs and allows late submissions. Overall, a great teacher.
