Moroney is the best teacher if you wanna get an A, and learn as well. He always makes sure everyone understands what he teaches, and all the tests are composed of EXACTLY the lecture notes. I recommend him 100%.
really hard class, kicked my ass but moroney is extremely nice and helpful if you go see him during office hours! he's very willing to help and he loves what he does! go to class because his notes are better than the book, and he give bonus quizzes for coming (he gives you the answers so you don't have to know them!)
The class is really hard, but I loved Moroney. He's really funny and cheesy and makes lots of bad jokes. Loves what he teaches and is always willing to help, but he doesn't spoon feed you. Old tests are really helpful, he basically just changes number and little things. Final is mostly old test questions. Take him if you can, he's awesome.
Very helpful. Also very entertaining. Just very hard.
He is nice and everything but his first test is hard as hell!
He's a fantastic professor. He loves what he teaches and he makes the subject interesting. He has pop quizzes, but he gives you all of the answers, and if you go to the study sessions, you won't do too badly on his tests.
Dr. Moroney is a great professor. He really makes biology interesting and easy to understand. He gives several in class quizzes, but he gives out the answers. Buy the old tests whenever he offers them--they are very very similar to the actual tests. MasteringBiology homework is for a grade. He also gave a 5 point bonus opportunity at the end.
Moroney is a great professor, and he is very helpful. He is willing to help you as long as you seek it, and he is very personable. His tests are very difficult, I made the same grade on just about every tests. His quizzes are in class and are random but they are easy, he even gives you answers. Homework Helps your grade tremendously.
Everything is explained well. Make sure to study all information because tests require knowledge of everything covered. Help sessions are very helpful.
Moroney does sessions before each test to help students out and is really helpful during office hours. He genuinely cares about students who show some interest. He teaches well and tells joke sometimes. He gives random clicker quizzes and gives the answers. His tests are quite hard and if you fail one it's hard to raise your grade. Not an easy A.
Go to office hours. He WANTS you to do well and is very understanding and helpful. Tests are tough but you can bomb the first one and still make a come-back (but I don't recommend that)
Moroney is a total goofball. I loved him. He loves Biology and knows a lot about the subject. He has trouble getting that knowledge across clearly sometimes though. But overall he was really good. I took AP biology in high school so he really cleared up a lot for me. Tests are difficult. BUY THE OLD TESTS! He's hilarious. I suggest taking him.
Moroney is one of my favorite professors. He loves biology and tries to make it interesting. However his test are unreasonably hard. I've compared my test to other proffer's exams and they are way more difficult. If you're worried about getting an A, take another professor!
Moroney loves teaching this class. But it is difficult subject matter. almost EVERY class has participation questions. Tests are hard. wish i would have studied more, if you don't the test grades aren't going to be good. Final was hard. TAKE CLASS NOTES and actually pay attention. Power points have missing blanks and aren't that descriptive.
Dr. Moroney is hilarious and gives entertaining lectures. The class itself is difficult, but he tries to help his students every way that he can by giving participation, homework, and in-class quizzes (which he usually just gives the answers to).
Moroney was my favorite for my first semester. He is so funny and really gets your attention in class. He uses clickers as participation grades and gives 5 pop quizzes throughout the whole semester so attendance is kinda necessary. If you remember stuff from high school, you'll do fine. Otherwise, reading the book and going to office hours help.
Dr. Moroney is no doubt the best freshman bio teacher. Everyone will try to get you to take Wischu, but don't listen. Moroney is extremely kind, intelligent and funny. He posts fill in the blank powerpoints and has daily clicker Qs so its very easy to follow along. This semester he curved the grading scale so that 78-89 was a B and 89-100 was an A
Absolutely loved him. He WANTS his students to succeed. He spells everything out for you during his office hours and I wouldn't have passed the class without going. Get old exams from friends, they're pretty much the same. The final was difficult but still got a B in the class. Definitely take him over all other Bio teachers.
His lectures seem pretty easy and you can purchase his old test for practice. However don't take other people's advice and only study that ! Read, study mastering biology, do the study guide AND review old test. If not your likely to fail !
Moroney is an amazing professor. He cares about his students and makes every effort to make convoluted material easy to understand. I would highly recommend taking his class. He hold a question and answer session before each exam. Clicker questions are used for participation and he has a few pop quizzes-- they aren't unreasonable though.
Dr. Moroney is an excellent teacher, and he really cares about his students. Though Biology is not an easy A, Dr. Moroney will do everything he can to help. He's really quirky and weird at times, and he's super lovable.
James is an amazing professor. He really spends time clarifying difficult subjects and really cares about student feedback. He offers really awesome study sessions the day before exams and always has great office hours. His class isn't easy by any means but putting in effort and attending class will result in a passing grade.
His office hours SAVED me. I honestly had a F, but he walked me through everything I needed to get me up, with no judgement. He's beyond kind and genuinely cares about what's best for your college career.
He is a great professor. Definitely take him. His test are very difficult, but he is there if you need help. He really cares about your grade and wants you to do well. Study a week before his test and you should be fine.
I would definitely take this professor again if I could. He offers every opportunity to do well in his class and really goes in depth with the material. His tests come from his lectures so expect to write down almost everything he says. His lectures are informative and he's really funny so it keeps you interested in what he's saying.
Moroney was one of my favorite professors in my first semester. He does clicker questions for participation and quizes. Tests are difficult but doable. Tons of MasteringBiology Hw. His office hours are super helpful and he has reviews before the test. It takes a while to get used to his lectures, but he slowly becomes enjoyable and funny.
Dr. Moroney is absolutely fantastic! His lectures are very informative and he tries really hard to entertain the students. He always has interesting stories that helped the students learn the material. He almost always gives you the answers to the in-class clicker quizzes. Overall, I would definitely take him again.
Knows biology well and give excellent powerpoints that you can take notes on the bottom on. Gives opportunity to buy practice tests that help alot. Textbook helps with clearing things up.
Dr. Moroney explained things really well. His power points weren't much help though. There were lots of questions that came straight from the book and all of his test questions are application. So be sure you understand back and forth. Reading the text book is necessary. Very helpful in office hours and wanted you to do well.
One of my favorite professors thus far. Funny and genuinely good guy. Tests feel easy if you follow along to the lectures and do the homework. Also pay attention to clicker questions.
Great teacher, funny and pretty excited about the material. Tests are VERY hard and you have to have a 100% CONCEPTUAL knowledge, not just general knowledge (like vocab and stuff). Tough if you are a first semester freshman and don't know how college works BUT a very good alternative to the large and difficult class Wischeusen teaches.
He does not curve tests. Study outside of class or you pass.
Moroney has to be one of the coolest guys ever. Very interesting lectures as he tries to keep his students entertained. He just keeps saying High Potassium inside.. real good guy. If you have any interest in biology it will be a solid class. Honestly didn't put in a lot of effort at all (first semester was an eye-opener) and did daily well.
4 exams, 7 quizzes (takes 5 highest scores), & homework for every section (drops 4 lowest scores). Took this my 1st semester & worked hard but could've worked harder. He likes to see his students at office hours & wants to help you! Make it a point to go! Reading the section in the book before the lecture WILL help you! He's very kind & funny.
Dr. Moroney was an AMAZING teacher. I took him my freshmen year. He makes it very clear what to study. His clicker questions and quizzes (which are very easy) are VERY similar to the test, and many times he gives out clicker answers and test questions. Come to every class and go to his office hours to be "grilled". He is entertaining and helpful!
Moroney's lectures are interesting and funny, and he really cares about the material. He focuses on areas where he will ask questions. He is very accessible outside of class and he gives pre-test study sessions where he tells you what to focus on. Overall, he is a great professor! Be careful, as he does not give much bonus, but there is some.
I dropped this class because I failed the 2nd exam. It's totally my fault I failed it though. I made a 92% on the 1st exam, but i got over confident and didn't study much for the 2nd and it showed (made a 48% lol bye). Anyway, do yourself a favor and just study. He's not a bad professor truthfully.
Great guy. Known less than other into prof, bc less sections available. Love that his tests are paper/pencil, not on computer. Best way to study is reviewing old tests, many questions are very similar. Lectures are interesting, yet slow on occasion due to topics. Prof makes effort to help students understand material. Allows tests to be reviewed.
Dope Dude
he is really bad. He is way to smart to explain the information. I was taking calculus 2 and i studied for biology 1201 more than my math class. He just cant explain the material and goes way to fast. First test included 8 chapters and he doesnt curve the exams. Would NOT recommend him to anyone. He is nice but his class is difficult.
Moroney is a great teacher. The material he covers is hard which is why I got a B in the class, but it wasn't because he's a bad teacher. He is so easy to reach with any questions and makes study guides for the tests. Has office hours all the time. Has a review session before each test. 10/10
This was my favorite class! I didn't mind that attendance was mandatory, and his tests weren't extremely hard if you studied. He always had office hours and I would recommend going to his test reviews the day before. Make sure to take notes before so your'e not trying to catch up the whole class time. Make sure to do the homework and get a clicker.
Dr. Moroney is a great professor and cares about his students' understanding of the material. Tests are difficult, but not too bad if you pay attention and study. Go to class because you get participation points. Lots of MasteringBiology homework. Super kind and funny and has review sessions before each exam.
Do NOT take him. I went to class, did all the homework (which there is a lot of) and still had to drop his class because I always failed his tests. His tests covered about 8 chapters at a time, and his review sessions were not helpful.
Takes attendance via clicker every class. He does give pop quizzes, but gave us the answers most of the time. Lots of homework that was pretty difficult. I did not enjoy this class & felt it hard to follow along during lectures. Exams are very hard even after studying for days, so I chose to withdraw.
Bombed first test then went to him and pulled my grade up to a B+. Super helpful if you go to him. SI was very helpful.
Don't take this class. Lectures are useless for the test and he can't find a way to communicate efficiently. Feels like he stands up there and talks about random things all class. You also have to go because attendance is a grade and there are pop quizzes that you'll get a 0 on if missed. His practice tests, homeworks, and tests don't match at all.
awesome professor for entry level bio! attendance is not mandatory, but you definitely don't want to skip a lot of class because the exams are very lecture-based.
Was pretty nice and caring. Did what he could to help if you went to him. Made himself available all the time and even came to science dorms to give help sessions.
He seems like a good guy, but lectures seemed all over the place at times. Attendance was taken for a grade through mastering biology, also pop quizzes were through mastering biology (don't worry they were easy straight forward questions). Honestly I passed because I read the textbook and used study tools on mastering biology.
He is a good teacher, but lectures the whole entire class. You will never get out early and he does clicker questions after every class and random ones that count as a quiz grade. Make sure to study what the grad students sell at the beginning of the semester they help a lot.
Professor Moroney is an excellent teacher. His lectures are informative and he is very helpful in office hours. I learn a lot in this class.
He's class is boring but pretty easy to pass. He does give out pop quizzes but they're easy and sometimes he gives you the answers. Participation points are taken through in class questions. Overall he's a nice guy, understanding with your grades if you go talk to him. He also drops a lot of grades at the end of the semester.
Introductory Biology: Dr. Moroney has to be one of the funniest professors I have ever had. He teaches his class in a way to not make it boring with the use of jokes and stories of his life. His exams are very straight forward, but there are a few questions on each one that are tricky and you are meant to get wrong.
A reasonable amount of homework but it prepares you for the tests really well! He also hints at test questions and gives a few super easy pop quizzes so go to class!!
bio 1201: Hes a good professor the best advice is to buy the old exams or find them on quizlet theyre very similar the the actual test. The study guides are very general. If you remember the learning catalytics questions from class they will help a lot. Overall if you put in the work and take notes in class youll pass
Very lecture heavy and sometimes can go off on a tangent. Read the textbook before class and lectures are easier to understand. Buy the practice tests from the grad students at the beginning of the semester, they are super helpful.
This was the best professor I could have asked for. It is very easy to make goods grades in this class, as long as you study and review. The lectures were very entertaining. He definitely knows how to get a group of kids to stay engaged in class and participate. Best class all semester.
He was super interesting to listen to in the lecture, and you can tell he knows his stuff, but the way he taught was super confusing to me and his PowerPoints weren't much help. Buy the old tests, find them on Koofers, and study quizlets. I've heard the SI sessions help too. Make sure you review his Learning Catalytics too.
Loved Moroney would definitely take him again. If you don't go to class, you won't make an A, unless you have prior Biology knowledge. This class is not difficult if you put in the work. Super cool guy.
He gives a lot of MasteringBiology homework, and I spent a good amount of time studying for his exams. His lectures are interesting and he's really funny but be willing to take the time on your own to study. (Also gives helpful reviews before the exams)
Professor Moroney was very engaging and funny in his lectures, which made class interesting. He really wants his students to be successful. Easy homework twice a week, daily participation grades, and easy extra credit really boosted my grade. He also gives his own test review sessions and basically tells you everything on the test! Soooo helpful!
Dr. Moroney was a great professor. His lectures are funny, and he tells you what you need to know for tests. His review sessions were also very helpful. I highly recommend taking his class.
Moroney gave tons of hints/heads-ups during lecture on exactly what material would be on the exams; it would be best if you did attend lecture. He does speak off subject from lecture but most of it sometimes pertains to the content. He likes to give off small jokes to liven up the class. Very chill and easy professor.
Moroney is honestly an amazing teacher. If you have the chance to take him do it!! He is so clear and fair in what he expects you to know for exams, and he is just a really great guy. Homework and clicker qs boost your grade, as well as a bonus assignment helping too. His exams can be difficult but he does a review before each one! Highly recommend
My favorite professor of the semester! He is very clear about what is expected of you in the class. He offers help sessions that really helped me with exams. If you get the chance to take him, do it!!
This class with Dr. Moroney was so enjoyable!! His lectures are easy to understand if you pay good attention he and knows how to make us (the students) not get bored during them. The tests are not very hard as long as you study hard for them. Definitely take him if you can!
sweet guy. go to class you'll pass with a B or an A. he tells you what's on the tests
He is such a genuine guy and an amazing teacher. Basically gives you free points when you do the participation in the zoom lectures.
Moroney was one of the best professors. Very good with questions and super funny, he always wanted to make sure you understood even with online classes and was always on time and happy to be there
Definitely a very good biology professor. He really cares about how his students do and will answer any/all questions. You have to go to class because he gives daily participation points and random pop quizzes. As long as you read the chapters and listen in class, you should be good
Even though I don't think I'll get the A+ I was hoping for, Dr. Moroney is very enjoyable. Attendance is a must due to participation quizzes for this class but lectures are recorded and the slides are posted. I went to office hours every week, and studied pretty hard. The exams aren't too hard but you need to study for them for sure.
Dr. Moroney is the man. His class isn't an easy A you will need to put in work. But, it is very possible to get an A. Though the class isn't over, I currently have a c+, which is deserved for the work I put in (I slacked off on the first exam and spent the rest of the sem fixing it.) 100% recommend attending his office hours, he gives good insight.
Dr. Moroney is that guy. His lectures are captivating and he clearly outlines what he expects from students on his exams. I got through his class with an A without ever reading the textbook because his lectures are so good. He is also hilarious. 100% take Dr. Moroney.
Dr. James Moroney is one of the best freshman biology professors. Dr. Moroney posts all the slides on moodle and he tells you what is going to be on the test. He's also very funny during the lectures. Just remember to go to class because he does participation and pop quizzes. There is a lot of homework but not too bad. IF YOU CAN, TAKE HIM!
Love Moroney!! Has great humor and spirit. Test can be a little difficult. You NEED to study and put in the time. Homework is super easy. He doesnt give much extra credit.
Dr. Moroney is the man! Great professor and makes his lectures entertaining. If you have any prior knowledge of biology, this class will be an easy A, but don't slack off, exams make up most of your grade!
Moroney is so good!! He's super funny and keeps the class engaged throughout the lecture. If you do the readings and show up to class, you'll do fine. He is very transparent about what material you need to know for exams.
Loved Dr. Moroney, he has office hours 2+ times a week, where he's open to questions and he goes over test questions which is super helpful. He really wants everyone to succeed, which is a great quality to have as a professor.
I struggled a lot at the beginning, however, I started going to his office hours and brought my failing grade from midterms up to a B! It was hard for me to learn in class as they are usually large classes so going to see him in a small group helped A LOT!! He is a sweet guy as long as you care and you try you will do great!
He's a nice and funny guy. The tests are 40 questions and kinda random since they are pulled from 1 to 6 chapters for each test. Be prepared for pop quizzes. He also has daily participation points so going to class will most definitely help you. If you don't go, it will drop your grade. Good luck!
He is genuinely caring as to what he is teaching, his office hours are very useful, and he's hilarious.
Dr. Moroney is by far the best bio professor! He has daily LearningCatalytics of whatever topic we are covering to take attendance, but he drops a few of them before the end of the semester. His exams are fairly easy if you put effort into studying. He truly is a professor that wants all of his students to succeed. Also, he's absolutely hysterical.
Really great prof, super funny. Get ready for content heavy lectures and in-class quizzes, but if you go to class and use all the resources provided you will be fine.
Definitely take Moroney if you can! He genuinely cares about his students and wants to teach you. He has office hours and SI sessions 5 times a week, so if you need help it's there. The only down side is that he can be boring and PowerPoints are lengthy but it's bio for sci maj so what can you do. His tests are rigorous, but reasonable.
I struggled to pay attention and I would skip classes too. Attending class is mandatory if you want to get a participation grade. There's also pop quizzes. Some assignments are dropped though so there is some cushioning. The course grade is heavily weighted on exams. Do the work and go to class and you should make an easy A. Homework is easy.
Dr. Moroney is an amazing professor who wants his students to do well in his class! The tests can be somewhat difficult, but if you study and attend his office hours you will do fine. He also holds a zoom review session before every exam which is extremely helpful when studying the material. If you have a chance to take him, do it!
The class was not easy by any means, but if you showed up to class and studied it was doable. Moroney cares about his students and wants them to pass. He makes attendance mandatory by having daily participation and pop quizzes (easy - but the first one is used as a scare tactic). If you attend class and take notes, you should receive at least a B.
BIOL 1201 with Dr. Moroney showed me what I needed to work on as a student concerning how I study and manage my time. There is no set structure so you are accountable for studying the material on your own and it can get a bit overwhelming. As a college student in my first semester, this class was definitely a good learning experience.
Professor Moroney is a great teacher and his class is very entertaining. Attendance is mandatory, every day there will be learning catalytic questions that must be answered some of these learning catalytic questions will be taken for quiz grades and he will not tell you which days will be taken as quiz grades so be prepared to go to class.
Even though I didn't love the actual content of the class, Dr. Moroney made the class entertaining and easy to understand. His lectures are sometimes very dense but he posts all of his slides which is helpful. He also does zoom reviews a couple of days before each test which are EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
I enjoyed his class, well organized. He loves to joke around. He did give extra credit at the end. All of his powerpoints are posted on Moodle. He gives HW on Pearson. Exams are easy if you study the powerpoints, office hours are very helpful, & explains the material. There're pop quizzes after breaks & learning catalytics are participation pts.
He is a very good professor and he's super sweet!! I put off assignments and studying until the last minute, but don't do that!! It is managable if you put in the effort but dont slack off.
I LOVED Dr. Moroney's 1201 Class! He was an amazing and funny lecturer with an amazing understanding of all topics he taught to us and was understanding of any circumstances my friends and I had. GO TO CLASS! You will miss out on so much, including quizzes if you don't. Tests are most of your grade, so get a study group and go at it 'til you can't.
Hard class, but you can attain a decent grade if you show to lecture and study hard. Highest percentage of the grade are the tests. Participation quizzes and/or questions every class so show up. He does post review video on Moodle before every test, so be sure to watch those. Lowest quiz grade gets dropped.
