Makes class fun and interesting. Great instructor.
Very nice guy, but class is very unfocused. Randomly babbles about things in his life for half of class. I feel like I learned much more in A&P 1, with a "hard" teacher, than with this one.
This class is hard you really have to study there is a lot of material, but he makes it interesting and very helpful. I took him for both lecture and lab and was so anxious but he is pretty straight forward and wants you to get the material, and has fun so you stay interested.
Patho is insanely hard, however Jim is a pro at painting the big picture for you and giving you the key concepts you are able to apply throughout the entire semester. I highly recommend coming to class because he lectures quite a bit from PPT but lets you know what to expect on the exams. Really, really enjoyed this class.
Jim is the most amazing instructor I have encountered across CNM and UNM. He can make the most difficult subject matter concise and easy to understand. I would take any class with him that I possibly could!
Great class! Unlike other science classes he will keep you focused and engaged. Attendance is mandatory. Patho is not an easy subject but it also really depends on who is teaching it. I give this teacher A+
Amazing teacher. Very willing to help and talk about concepts. He makes sure each student is not lost before he moves on with his lecture. He also offers A LOT of extra credit from the book and on the exams. He uses anecdotes to help understand. Sometimes he goes on rants about off-topic things, but they are always entertaining.
He is such an amazing teacher I already took his class 2 times and I love how he teaches! he tells you what to know! Especially for his exams and they aren't too hard (gotta study of course) lol but they aren't going to mentally mess with you haha and he gives extra credit! Love this teacher love the class I recommend him :)! Good luck!
Jim is an amazing instructor. He is willing to help you as much as he can. He wants to make sure his students really know the material. Amazing lectures and although he can get sidetracked, it's interesting knowledge he wants to share with us. Oh and extra credit is awesome! Take every class you can with him.
Mr. Niforatos is an awesome teacher. Patho is hard but he makes it interesting and easier to understand. He does gjve extra credit to help and is almost always willing to meet for help. This is the 3rd class I have taken with him and so glad I did.
Jim is a great teacher. He's one of the rare ones that actually cares about his students. He has a lot of professional experience behind him to add stories to the lectures. He offers a lot of extra credit, too. He's funny, personable, and tells it like it is. Take whatever courses you can with him!
Jim is one of the best professors I've been fortunate enough to encounter in my collegiate career. He genuinely cares for his students and helping them succeed. Definitely a funny dude that makes boringhard subjects enjoyable. Gives tons of extra credit bc he understands that tests alone do not represent a student's full potential for learning.
Mr. Niforatos is great for patho. His lectures are long but you retain the information because he delivers the information with passion. Really knows his stuff and his sense of humor is icing on the top. Also, knows every single student by name!
This guy is awful , i regret taking this class with him. anatomy is a hard class and he makes sure to make it harder. we do have life's another responsibilities. he is always sending email if we miss a class he will make sure to give us an f, this class is very stressful. and he made it worse sending very awful email to his students.
He is an amazing professor very clear and sticks to the syllabus lectures arent boring he always explains everything and takes time to make sure everyone understands or if you have any questions he will happily answer them. Very respectful encouraging and engages with the class. I have taken him for A&P 1 and 2 and Patho 1 & 2
A&P is not 'easy' material, and James definitely tries to make things as clear as possible. His lectures are all from powerpoint, and he reiterates main points on his powerpoint presentations that he wants you to know. Assigns extra credit out of the book - do the extra credit! Tests are tough, but that's expected with the course material.
This is by far one of the best teachers I have ever taken. He is hilarious and has some amazing stories, all pertain to the lectures. His lectures are created to teach you the knowledge to be a great clinician, not to memorize stupid facts. All test questions come from his powerpoints. Gives 50+ points of extra credit. Very clear cut and concise!
I definitely would like to take his course again!!!
Jim was by far the best professor I have ever taken. He really cares about all of his students and makes a point to know everyone by name. Everything he tests on comes directly from the power points. He also offers a lot of extra credit at the beginning of the semester and on every exam. Including lab. I would 100% take Jim again. TAKE HIM!
Jim is great! He not only teaches material relevant to a career in medicine, but also teaches you how to be a great clinician. His tests are only from powerpoints: don't even bother buying the textbook, HE NEVER USES IT! Attendance is mandatory, and he gives 50+ points extra credit to make up for low test scores. Will take again!
Funny and knows his material. A doctor and a lawyer. Teaches because he likes it.
Jim is the greatest instructor ever! His class is difficult, because he has high expectations for his students. But if you work hard, it will be a rewarding experience. He is so helpful, funny, and grades fairly. I've taken 4 of his courses, and would take more if I could.
I have never had a better educator in my entire school career. I am including Kindergarten till now. He is bright and intelligent and allows others to shine as well. His material is difficult because it is difficult material not because he makes it that way. He actually makes Pathophysiology accessible. I love him.
Terrible, inappropriate, cusses a lot, talks down about other teachers in his dept. Be prepared for tons of bragging. He gives you 100's on everything then really only grades you on 2 things, the mid term & final. Problem is his test are 100% fill in the blank. SAT, NCLEX, any test you can imagine are multiple choice, not his, he wants you to fail
He sends aggressive emails threatening F's, he makes you stand up for his test, he makes you leave your pack packs in the front of the class, won't let you into class till exactly when it starts. He's very innapropaite in lecture. Only class in my life where all test were fill in the blank. His grading is very subjective, will not review anything.
Jim is brilliant and humble. He is funny, approachable, and really cares about his students. Like almost every other teacher in the department, his tests in lab, like at most places, were fill in the blank. He never had a negative word to say about anyone. There is a reason why every semester there are long wait lists to get into his classes.
Best teacher I have ever had! Would take any class he teaches! Super respectful, funny, smart but not arrogant, and serious about what he wanted us to know. He did group quizzes, which took off the stress of the class, and gave us a super fair mid-term and final. I've never seen a teacher care so much and apply the material to real things in life
Jim is, hands down, the best educator at CNM! He truly desires to see his students succeed and is willing to answer any question, whether in or out of class. Yes, attendance is mandatory and he is a stickler for those rules, but it's a college class! Suck it up! Make tons of notecards & study to get a good grade. Take Jim! You won't be sorry!
He is amazing! The tests are hard, but I learned lots about how to study great amounts of material, and he teaches you what you really need to know. His experience and the way he teaches can enrich your college experience and your life.
Jim is great, only use text for extra credit but can check out from library. Has med background so teaches in a way that applies and sticks. Do the extra credit and study what he teaches and no way you cant pass with an A. Gives extra credit on exams. His lectures shows how much he cares about teaching and he's funny. register early for classes.
Oh man, if you don't have a sense of humor don't take him. Some of the stuff he says is a little much. Other than that he is awesome! He really cares about each and every student and incorporates real world situations into what we are learning. He also gives a lot of extra credit which is nice because the tests can be hard!
My favorite professor ever. The class is difficult but so is the subject material so get ready to study. He loves teaching and genuinely cares about his students. Do yourself a favor and get to know him outside lecture. He's kind, interesting and thoughtful. He will stay 30 minutes after class just to chat and get to know you better. A+ prof A+ guy
If you don't mind delusions of grandeur, constant bragging about attending med and law school, vulgar language and how he's practically better than every professor in the school then this is your guy. He does give free A's for every assignment except mid term and final though. Wish he was more professional. I can see why kids like him.
One of the best professors I have had. He cares about improving healthcare in the region. Be prepared to work hard, but if you do you will be greatly rewarded. Jim is very intelligent and has a lot of real world expertise that he shares during his interesting lectures. He teaches so students have to use higher order/level thinking, not memorization
That this man's class! Amazing lecturer. Very knowledgeable. Lectures are an open forum and student participation is encouraged. Best lecturer I've ever had.
Best class hands down! I wish I would have been able to take him for A&P I and both Patho's. When I took him this summer for A&P II, that was the only class that I needed unfortunately. The only way to fail his class is by not studying the powerpoint he gives you which is exactly what he uses for his tests. Plus he offers some extra credit.
He is one of those teachers where half the class is former students that took him in other classes and wanted him again; and are actively trying to get into other courses like Pathology that he teaches. He knows most of the students names very quickly. He is very accessible with office hours and emails. He gives advice about your profession.
He is an amazing and dynamic lecturer! Its really nice to have the consistency of taking him from A&p ! thru all the way too Patho 2! If you show up to class and look out for the phrase "sexy test question" you'll pass no problem!
Loved this class!! Very knowledgeable while still being approachable and down to earth! Teaches you not only the subject matter but also how to be a health care professional. I HIGHLY recommend this professor but be prepared to do the work. If you do you'll pass no problem!
Jim is honestly the best professor hands down at CNM. I've taken him for both A&P I & II lectures. He will tell you which slides to study. ONLY study info he talks about. He gives tons of extra credit so take advantage of them. He is very down to earth and realistic, so be prepared. He is hilarious and knowledgeable, loved going to class!
He talks so much for the ppts before lab. He gives EC so take those opportunities! DO youre lab packets, make flash cards and study models and youll be good. Hes a cool guy! QUizzes every week but theyre from the previous PowerPoint so take notes, especially when he says it will be a test/quiz question. Im really glad I took him. Study lots!
Jim was the best teacher I have ever had! I took him for Patho 1&2. His class isn't easy BUT worth it! He doesn't use the book and provides power points. He gives extra credit and is so knowledgeable. I wish he could teach the nursing classes!
Offers lots of Extra Credit! Don't procrastinate and you will do fine.
Jim no doubt knows his stuff. What I don't like is his teaching style and personality. Jim has a lot of issues with the world and daily happenings he complains about through half of our lessons frequently. He gives no study guides and has tests on over 800 slides with no guidance and calls it 'conceptual'. It's maddening. Look for someone else.
What a great class and instructor! Totally inspirational, brilliant, compassionate, funny guy. Knows his stuff. He gives tons of extra credit, tests only on what he lectures on and what's on his slides, allows hedging on tests, and even gives credit for some wrong answers. Impossible to get a bad grade if you do the work. Helps everyone succeed!
Jim is one of the teachers that will challenge you. He mentions not truly knowing and learning the material is malpractice, and he's totally correct! Imagine working in the medical field and a patient comes in and you can't even properly diagnosis their symptoms. It's not an easy class in general, but if you make sacrifices, you will succeed.
Awesome professor and great lectures! You will have to work for your grade and put the time in but if you do that there is no way you should fail his class. The only complaint I had was he does not give you a test review for any of his exams including the final. He wants you to know your stuff, so as long as you study you will do great!!
He talks about himself so much to seem impressive but it really just looks sad. Almost no extra credit, but does give partial credit. All answers are fill in the blank on quizzes and tests Does NOT have TF or multiple choice. Regularly warns no hedging. He's nice didn't really think he's funny. Difficult like all health classes no better or worse.
Professor Jim is the absolute best! He is super interesting. His teaching style is awesome. Also, we can hedge and we get extra credit offered. At first I was upset that he doesn't give a review, but I actually learned A&P.
Was an amazing teacher for lecture, explains things thoroughly, answers questions on the material, didn't really need use for textbook he went off of power points for our study material. His stories were also interesting to the material. Allowed possible extra credit material for exams that you studied from lecture that wasn't on the exam.
Second class with him. Wow! Nursing programs respect him. So do employers! I've asked. Luv his candor about what happened years ago. Tough to take that kind of stand and pay with losing everything. I hate the web-everything is out of context! This guy pours himself into the success of his students. Impossible to fail with Jim!
So glad I had Jim for 4 classes. I learned more from him than I did in my Master's in another field. Completely transparent and humble. Nurses and PAs where I worked told me to take him. Hiring supervisors where I work and admissions people at nursing programs trust his teaching and use him for consulting! No one gives more for students to succeed!
Jim does an amazing job at keeping your attention through long lectures and skips slides that aren't important to the exams. He cares about his students while also making jokes about how much of a villain he is for the exams and HW he gives us. His class is tough, but if you show up and put in the effort then you will likely get a good grade.
Jim was probably one the best teachers I've had at CNM. His class was challenging but he never failed to make it interesting. If you taking Lab, just make sure you really read the slides and what he specifically points out. Only material he has gone over will ever be tested on. He really helped me learn the material and I am glad I took his class!
Jim was the best teacher I have ever had and he makes everyting so clear. He cares about his students, really knows the material, and goes way more than the extra mile to make sure his students succeed in and out of class. I got hired because he did a reference for me and the doctors I work with all know about him! You wanna learn, take Jim!
Jim is wonderful, down-to-earth and an extremely knowledgeable person. I loved taking his classes and always looked forward to his lectures and labs. He is a great professor and explains things well, but also expects a lot from his students, so be ready to work for your grade. Planning on taking another class with him 100%!!!
Jim is probably one of the best instructors I've had, very knowledgeable/knows his stuff. His test are somewhat hard but if you study and do the work you'll be fine. You have case studies that are mandatory and are given 2 for extra credit, he does give extra credit on test and allows hedges on test and you'll only be tested on what he goes over.
The best advice Jim has given is "Hang around cooler people, read cooler literature." He's a high quality teach giving us little community college kids a pass at high quality education. He's understanding and incredibly clear. Though, he does not make exceptions to his own rules he lets you know before hand so that you can prepare accordingly.
Patho II-online class. We didn't need the book. ALL of his exams and quizzes were from the power-points and lectures. DO NOT freak out about the amount of power-points. He wont go over all of them. If you half ass study, this class is NOT for you. Exams are hard but passable. You WILL work for your grade. Read his emails! Jims a GREAT teacher.
YOU'RE AN IDIOT IF YOU DON'T TAKE HIM. I've gained a mentor, a friend, an absolute GENIUS of life. All the other reviews give you the usual - what I can tell you is you NEED to attend his office hours, he will bend over backwards for the students he's able to connect with, including curving your exam so you finish with an A!!!
Jim is one of the BEST instructors I have ever had! If you want an A you will need to work for it. Being an online class you need discipline to keep up with the lectures, note taking, and studying. Jim always answered my emails in a timely manner. He wants his students to succeed! If you put in the extra effort he is always there for you!
Jim is the best!!! It was an honor to be one of his students. The class was hard but absolutely worth it. I learned so much from it. Jim wants his students to succeed and to truly learn. I really appreciate all the efforts and time he put into the course. I hope I get the opportunity to take his other classes. If you have the chance, take him.
Best prof CNM has. He teaches you how to think, how mechanisms work, how to process tons of information and get out of it what you need, and how to organize your time and information. Nursing programs and employers love students who've taken him for A&P and Patho classes; not because he says so-he's really humble. Take him for any class he teaches
JIM IS AMAZING!!!!! He is brilliant. I don't understand how someone could be so smart and the NICEST ever. A&P is no joke and I was NEVER intimidated to ask questions. Jim has a great voice too and since we HAVE to be online, his lectures are really nice to listen to. I hope I can take my remaining science classes with Jim. Extra credit on Exams.
I am super glad I got to take A&P with Jim! Hes an amazing teacher. I loved listening to his lectures and he made it very clear what material was most important. Its a tough class but I learned a ton. I wish he was teaching A&P 2, I would DEFINITELY take another class with him.
Great Instructor but needs to work on doing lectures online. The audios are really hard to pay attention. If you are a visual learner I dont recommend taking this class.
I took Prof Niforatos for both BIO 2210 & it's lab. They were difficult classes due to the amount of material covered. The lab took more hours per week than the lecture class, I'd add that I think taking the lab cemented the material! I very much enjoyed his lectures, expertise and online office hours. I'd take him for every class if I could!
If you want to think of Anatomy and Physiology conceptually (which is a must for NCLEX questions) then take Jim. He's literally a doctor and a lawyer . But in all seriousness, you will get some practice with how NCLEX (or any nursing questions) will be. When he taught me how heart failure (all kinds) affects the rest of the body, it stuck with me
One of the best instructors Ive ever had! I wish I would have taken all my science pre reqs with him. He wants his students to succeed. You definitely have to work for your grade but you also actually learn the material! He is amazing! Study his lectures only, dont study outside resources!!!
This professor does not care about his students. The quizzes from the class are based on images not even presented in power points, or in lecture videos. The lecture videos he makes are extremely hard to watch because he says "um" every other word. He was extremely condescending, and refused to help students who had questions about quizzes. AVOID.
Worst professor Ive ever had! Says um- ah every other word its unbearable!! I took him after seeing his great reviews but now regret it .Quizzes and exams are extremely hard and arent on material in lectures. He is very rude and does not seem to want you to succeed. Does not let you see what you missed on quizzes and exams. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!
Jim is the real deal. You leave his class really knowing the material. He actually teaches you how to think. I've learned more with him than any other teacher. Great guy, loves his students, goes the extra mile to guarantee our success. Designs his class so anyone who tries succeeds. His recs carry great weight everywhere. Best prof at CNM!
One of the most humble and brilliant people Ive ever met. A walking fountain if knowledge but able to explain it so anyone can understand. His students do the best in other classes and nursing programs. The best teacher at CNM by a long shot! Do anything to take a class with him. Really cares about his students success and our being the best!
Jim, is very precise at his grading. He is logical and great at communicating. He offers more than office hours, but expects you to do your fair share of responsibility. Book is CNM powerpoint lessons, his audio is awesome to listen to any time of day, and test questions are based off of his audio lectures so listen to them over and over again.
Overall, I enjoyed patho 2 but it had its challenges! You will need to spend a good time studying for quizzes/exams. Jim posts lectures for every chapter that are very useful. Jim works with you and helps in any way he can. He's a very straight-forward teacher. Be prepared to dedicate a good amount of time studying and listening to his lectures.
Jim is incredible. Hands down one of the smartest instructors I have come across. With that said this class is hard. Go to office hours to get help. The only negative is there are no study guides and you don't know what you got wrong on tests and never will. If you reach out he will tell you what areas to study, after looking at your quiz.
James is the best professor that I ever had. His classes are not a easy classes, but if you are a medical student, you need to study hard. You cannot be lazy and hope to get an A. He said many inspiration things that motivate a lot. I took his A&P1 and A&P2, they were not easy but he will always there to help you if you ask. The best professor ever
Hardest class Ive ever taken but was so worth the struggle. He goes by concept mapping and trust me it works. I feel like Im finally learning and am so grateful. Jim was by far the best instructor Ive encountered in all of my college years and will forever stand out to me.
Jim is an amazing person & teacher. He really cares about what he does & puts a tremendous amount of time into everything from lectures, power points, to making himself avail every week. Provides xtra credit, just put the time into class that it needs & TRY. Sometimes you might get a D on a test but he makes sure you know the info in the long run
If your'e going into the nursing program TAKE JIM! I regret not taking him for more prereqs. People say he is tough but that's because he teaches tough subjects (patho, A&P). If you think Jim is tough, you may want to reconsider going into nursing school. I wish this man taught every class, he is truly amazing!
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Best. Decision. Made. He prepares you for the amount of information you must take in for med/nursing school. Very supportive, will help you if you put forward the effort and ask questions. Those who say hes tough likely didnt put forward the effort and wanted an easy class. Choose Niforatos.
I am in nursing school and I have yet to take any notes in my Health & Illness class because I was so beautifully prepared from the Patho classes I took with Jim. He set me up so well for nursing school, I can't thank him enough. People find him difficult, he is. But we are in school to learn, right? So as long as you'll let him, he will teach you.
If you're entering the nursing/medical field, TAKE JIM'S CLASS. He is a tough grader and his material is pretty complex but he is by far the best teacher/instructor I've had leading up to my nursing classes. The only annoying parts of his class were that he doesn't give study guides or let you review your tests/quizzes. Great teacher though.
I am convinced James writes these reviews himself. I took this class because of the reviews posted here, but I can say without a doubt this is the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures are extremely hard to follow and he does not teach conceptually, but asks conceptual questions on his tests. Very condescending. Gives extra though!
Best instructor ever! Had Jim for AP1&2 & Patho1&2. Taught me how to think & succeed academically; helped prepare me for UNM's BSN direct program, where I aced Levels 1 and 2! Couldn't have done it without Jim. Nursing school is super tough and those who took easy-A classes at CNM have failed out. TAKE JIM! He is the best in NM, funny & he cares!
This "professor" is a joke. He refuses questions, he does not review tests and he openly states that he doesn't respond to many emails. He might know the subject, but he teaches about as well as a rock. He's here for an easy paycheck and doesn't care about teaching AT ALL. I can't believe he still is allowed to work here.
Best prof I have ever had. Take him! Brilliant, funny, super invested in the success of his students, goes way past the extra mile to make sure you understand the material. Super accessible in and out of class. Writes great recommendations and gives great references. Respected in education and medicine. All my supervisors at the hospital took him!
Jim is the prof if you want to really learn Patho and be ready for nursing school. Jim explains things in a way that anyone can understand. My nursing program advisor told us she wished everyone was required to take Jim before taking nursing classes. Hilarious and always available. Even mentors and advises how to get into programs and get jobs.
Took Jim for A&P 1 and 2! Wow! Best teacher at CNM. Does everything to make sure you succeed, in class, at work, in life. Funny and humble. Always gives great clinical examples. No study guides but he shows you how to learn, outline, and memorize so you succeed in other classes. Still use his material and email him in nursing school. Take him!
I took Jim for A&P 1&2 and Patho 1&2 and it made all the difference in the world in my UNM BSN program. One of the best profs ever! He teaches you how to critically think and how to conceptually understand, apply, and memorize the material so you do well in nursing school. No one who took him failed out of any level in nursing. That's the real test
I took Bio 2210 & 2520 in person with Jim and they were the best classes of my life! Jim's lectures, powerpoints, conceptual way of teaching, and clinical correlations got me into and through UNM's BSN program! Most of the nurses I work with also took Jim for A&P and Patho classes. He's easily the best teacher in bio in New Mexico! HE REALLY CARES!
Jim made A&P come alive for me and everyone else in the class. I couldn't wait to hear his lectures, his clinical correlations, and his funny stories. A&P is no joke but I learned so much because of how Jim teaches and I learned how to learn, which has gotten me through my PA prerequisites. Jim helped me with my applications and I got accepted!
Hands down, best teacher at CNM! Though there is no study guide and you can't review tests, Prof Jim teaches in a way that you don't need those. And, there are no study guides or test reviews in nursing school. If you want a prof that prepares you for the next step, in every way, and who will go the extra mile to help you reach your goals, he is it
I loved taking Patho1 with Jim. His class is not easy, nor would I want a teacher who didn't challenge me. You will need to study and be able to put in hours outside of class to get this material and apply concepts. He gives assignments and tests that make you start to think clinically which is excellent. One of my absolute favorites at CNM.
Easily the best teacher I have ever had, and I have a master's in another discipline. He really knows his material, super humble in and out of class, goes the extra mile for anyone who asks, and even helped me get into medical school. He explains things so well anyone can understand. Boundless energy and hilarious! Best class and prof ever!
Book is pointless and the powerpoints might as well be as well. Gives little to no credit for recalling course material; tests 100% on terminology not in the powerpoints, applications not explicit to the powerpoints, and perhaps even specifics not mentioned in class. His testing is hard! He is hard to follow and prepare for. He's a moving target!
Jim is by far my favorite. The class is not easy which it shouldnt be if your going into the medical field. Quizzes (fill in the blank) can be taken multiple times. Rely on the lectures and what he talks about. Concepts, concepts, concepts. Don't rely on quizlet to pass. If you pay attention, take notes, and study then you'll do perfect!
Jim is a colorful character with many stories. He is quick on slides and talks about things not on them, so studying can be a chore. He is definitely not for everyone so ask around. Overall, he runs a decent and fair class. You will be teaching yourself however, so if you have a job or don't have the extra time then this might not be your class.
What to say about Jim. I took Human AP II and Pathos II with him this summer. These were the hardest courses I have ever taken. I worked my butt off. That's the point. Be in class everyday, email him, participate, tell him your life story and you will succeed NO MATTER WHAT scores you get on the exams. He is the best and most genuine professor.
Jim is a one of a kind human! Pathofizz is difficult and confusing but he helped me understand it & love it. He really prepares students for the nursing program. I highly recommend recording his lectures because the quizzes and exams are based off them. Seriously, RECORD HIS LECTURES. :)
Do NOT take his online class! The lectures are long and you can't see the PowerPoint you have to find the slides yourself and hope you're on the right slide. Only graded on tests and quizzes. The questions are way harder than they need to be. He offers extra credit which is nice but I would take literally anyone else.
Jim has been the most challenging professor I've ever had. I learned SO MUCH!! I got a D on my first quiz because I had never learned how to study. So I asked, and Jim taught me how. Finished the semester with an A. Brilliant malpractice lawyer and neuro/trauma trained surgeon. LISTEN because he tells you what's on the exam. Ask him questions.
Jim is an extremely tough professor, but it toughens you up. I can't believe NURSING students drop his class thinking that they can find an EASIER professor??? In nursing school????? I feel prepared for nursing school because of Jim. Don't be afraid of him, ask questions. He's an incredibly nice person who cares about his students.
I took Jim for A&P I and II, and he was great. He's a very nice person who clearly cares a lot about his students and is passionate and knowledgeable about the medical field. Grades are based only on 4-6 tests and a few quizzes. He shares extra interesting facts and stories in lectures, but sometimes has to rush through the rest of the content.
This teacher throws a bunch of material at you without much explanation and expects you to "think conceptually." He does not want you to learn anything, rather, you wants you to already have an outstanding understanding of pathophysiology. He does not teach; he lectures and you learn nothing unless you already have a great background in pathop
No help at all
Jim is one of the best college professors I've ever had. Work load is definitely a lot, especially online, but you learn so much taking his class. He makes his lectures interesting, relatable, and fun. Most of the course grade is from quizzes/exams, so make sure you really study. He offers extra credit, and will help you if you are struggling
VERY knowledgeable and caring. Conceptual learning.
I genuinely have never met a professor more straight-forward, respectable, and as wonderful as Jim. Get ready to put in the work. There are many opportunities for extra credit, but he also holds you to a high standard (as you would in a healthcare program). I absolutely loved Jim. I learned an outstanding amount of info.
There are so many things i want to say, he is kind, encouraging, funny, brilliant, passionate, relatable. He communicates clearly and often. He will scare you by talking about how hard his class is perceived to be, but in reality if you PAY ATTENTION he tells you what is important and will be on the tests. Best teacher I've ever had by far.
Classes ARE difficult as they SHOULD be this is difficult material you have people's LIVES in your care. Lawyer & Dr/surgeon PERFECT for conveying the seriousness of field. Show up to office hours, ask questions, take notes like mad & RECORD THE LECTURES no matter what. OUTLINE. Don't regurgitate. Exceptional, one of my favorite humans, hands down.
An amazing professor/person all around. Honestly, would love to take every class with him. It's not easy, but that's how you learn best by putting a good amount of time and care into the class. Ask him questions, he gives great feedback and advice. I highly recommend him to everyone.
I took his class based on the many 5 star reviews here but I wish I would have picked a different instructor. Grading criteria for exams is arduous so it was difficult to gauge my class progress during the semester. He's a very knowledgeable person but his arrogance makes it difficult to approach him with any questions.
Patho 1 is a hard class, no matter how you view it. Jim is knowledgeable about medicine. He will not review tests or quizzes. His online class, lectures are only audio. It is hard to follow along because he gets sidetracked or forgets to tell you what slide he is on. If you do not put in the effort, don't take his class.
This professor has amazing slides that help you understand what you'll be tested on. I loved doing the case studies. It was difficult to ask the professor questions, yet the best time to do so was during office hours. I would highly recommend this professor and I would take a course with this professor again.
ive never failed a class, TRUST ME, do not take him. take a professor who practices and gives assignments in effort to help you learn. This guy expects you to be perfect at this material from lecture to the exams. This class is difficult enough, ive approached him for help and all he said was write your notes "shorter".. no help
He is a tough professor at first, but he teaches you how to LEARN the material, not just memorize it. He is clear on what he wants you to know and won't test you on material he didn't cover in his lectures. powerpoints are more detailed than you need for the class, but are easy to understand and helpful. Take him if you want to learn how to study.
Took this professor based on all of his good reviews... However, the only things we were graded on was 5 quizzes, 4 exams, and the final. No study guides and all tests and quizzes require lock down browser. You definitely have to put in the work if you want to pass since there is no assignments to help with your grade.
4th class with Jim, trust the reviews both good & bad, all say NO STUDY GUIDES!!! He couldn't possibly be more upfront & clear about this. Graded on 5 Exams, 5 Quizzes, 8 Case Studies, & 3 extra credit outlining. Don't expect to be spoon fed, this is health care, you have to learn how to think critically & nursing school won't magically get easier.
This class is no joke - the material is challenging, but Professor Niforatos prepares you well for nursing. Attend class, take detailed notes, and use unstuck ai alongside the lectures. It's tough, but the effort pays off in the end.
Jim was an amazing teacher. Very inspirational and approachable-- but he does not spoon feed students, so be prepared to study. He grades more than fairly but expects a lot. I would not hesitate to recommend his classes to anyone who is serious about learning the material.
I am actually glad that some students are giving lower ratings. While Professor Niforatos can be great for many students, others such as myself find his style of teaching to be uncomfortable. Is he preparing us for harder courses? Of course. Is his approach suited for everyone? No. His grading consists of exams and quizzes. You MUST study.
Jim is one of the coolest professors I've had! He takes lectures seriously and doesn't give out study guides, which really helped me retain information by understanding concepts and not memorizing. His storytelling makes remembering disease processes easier. Overall, he's a cool and funny guy! I would take another class with him again!
For this summer grades were based on only exams. Provides no study material, cancels office hours frequently, does not go over exams, but provides a conceptual analysis, which doesnt help at all. I felt very discouraged taking his class as he talks very badly about healthcare and how you have to figure it all out yourself. Save yourself the trouble
He's a brilliant, kind, and very likable person. However he expects you to essentially teach yourself off of the powerpoints. For someone who already has a medical background this class may have been great. For someone hearing about these concepts for the first time, you may want someone with a "softer" approach to actually grasp the material
Too much socializing in class and less actual teaching. Uses old powerpoint slides that do not match the chapters in the book he says he got the material from. Spends a lot of time sharing his personal philosophy including the fact that he is a Zionist. I only found his fluids and electrolytes lecture useful in the first week.
