VERY GOOOOD TEACHER, U WILL LEARN ALOT FROM HIM
Great teacher. Very motivating and energetic. You have to earn your A, though.
Interesting guy. Not terribly difficult, but will challenge you. Interesting writing assignments, and a very helpful teacher. Will change the way you watch TV!
He's a VERY good teacher- explains thing in really clear detail. The structure of the class is simple (5 essays, random tests)but you really learn a lot. Good class is you like to talk.
class was very interesting, wrote lots of papers. Great proffessor, but earning an A is not easy at all
You should take him for any English course. All you really need to do is pay attention to the points in his lectures and know the basis of a structured essay. The BEST thing is that he's totally entertaining...
For an International student, this teacher is a killer. He grades F & D for all papers, even if your placement test paced you on English 1. Lot's of work to do in his class. Got to stand out in e class to get an A. Highly not recomended for International!
great teacher, very clear and you learn a lot from his lectures
I am an international student and I've got an A in his class... Well, you have to work your ass off to get to this point...but he is a great.- you won't regret.
My WORST English teacher ever!!!

I took his class my first year of college and seriously thought i should go back to high school. He's very entertaining and nice at first, but the hardest grader i have ever encountered. He tends to focus on the structure and grammar of ur essays, not the content. my advice, tend to speak up or else
this guy has the short-man complex. His reading choices seem like the class is going to be very interactive through debates and opinionated critical thinking, but he grades you on spacings between paragraphs, a stickler and a meany!!!!! Safe face and do not attemp this guys death sentence. The funny
good teacher, hard grader, BORING books. definately takes attendance every class! could have been worse.
Not too easy, but hes a great professor. Can't slack off. Funny guy too!
this guy is the worst teacher ive had in life he grades purely on structure not content. u will regret this guy. he wants to bring everyone down because he is secretly mad that he was not able to work at UCLA or USC. ridiculous class.
Essay assgn's require QUICK (1 week), intelligent analysis.. very easy for a month at a time, then BAM essay. Scramble for a week, then back to easy times. If you take this class, make use of his office time! for every essay! For me, it made difference between B and A-.

Nice guy....but, boring!!!!! Class has 5 essays and a research paper. He likes to talk and analyse 2 books. Not bad if you're stuck with him, but I am sure you will find an easier, more interesting professor.
This teacher is the worst. His books were boring and his grading was horrible. In class everyday but it didn't matter. All he does is talk about cheesecake. Avoid! Horrible!
Do not try to challenge him cos he wants things done his way, grades harshly not generous at all, appears to be nice maybe a little more human touch would do him a little good.A little too much disturbing behavior for me
This man have no feelings at all, everything have to be done according to his rules. He is strict when he grade his student. C in his class is an A in other classes
While he did express an enthusiasm for food, he never spoke about cheesecake for entire class sessions. He is an excellent professor, but you have to be willing to learn to pass his class. Check out some of these people's grammar...not hard to see why they might have failed regardless of their perfect attendance. I give Prof Pacchioli an A!! :)
I liked this teacher; he is intuitive, helpful and funny. I had a great time in his class. If you read the books and listen in class, it's an easy A...
he is hard, but he's fair and he respects opinions. great sense of humor. interesting reading materials and class discussions.
worst
His political leanings definitely take priority over much of his lectures. The worst part of his bias was his intolerance for all others opposed. Still, he was a very entertaining chap, and had excellent taste in music.

i think this teacher is very tough in grading. the book is hard enough. He's very careful to see every little mistake you made on your paper. But he's kind of very helpful. If you have difficulties, just come to his office, and he'll be very happy to help you with your problems in the class. GUARANTEED..!
hes a very funny professor who makes the subject very fun.
The only way that I can say about this professor is WORST, UNCLEAR, BORING, and HELPLESS.
Teacher is extremely helpful and interesting. He is not as difficult as he seems. He will also help you in any way that he can. Just put some effort in your work and you will be fine.
Very annoying man. Grades incredibly hard and if you have troubles with commas and grammar than this is not the class for you.
This teacher is the worst teacher i have ever had. Everything has to be his way. I remember for the research paper, he told us we have to staple the paper in a certain way. If we didnt do the way he sais, he didnt accept the researchpaper. This teacher is a big fall down for your GPA.
horrible. avoid. save your own life.
not too terrible. hard grader, but you can get an A with a LOT of effort. class discussions always interesting- participate!
His class is very hard. Don't except to get an A or B just because u think u made a good effort. his grades everyone as if they are english major.
Hes a pretty funny guy, really good teacher too! The books he assigns for reading are pretty boring but he goes over each chapter thoroughly during class discussions! His grading is hard but fair. I think if you go in for help during his office hours he takes it in to consideration when grading!

In all seriousness, I think I would have done better if the Lakers went to the playoffs... You could see my grades improve when the Lakers went to the playoffs... but then slightly teardrop once they were out... only kidding.... This teacher is good... Hard to get an A, but B is not out of reach... well i hope I got a B that is...Final was cool!
Very confusing! He makes and gives students a very hard time to think about English. It's totally boring. I always felt that he should RELEARN how to teach. He doesn't care about how students can learn. He is just a lazy teacher.
he is an ok guy. his lessons are very ambiguous. make sure to visit during the office hours.
he is hilarious! a fair grader. as long as you go to class everyday, youll do fine, he goes over what you read before you take the test.
Hilarious! His lectures are very thought provoking. I'm a much better writer and thinker because of him. His class is not easy, but what would you learn from an easy class? His constructive criticism is very helpful. He's a great English teacher!

He is very funny and makes the class interesting, but there are 5 essays (including the final) must be 4pgs 1.5 space, very overwhelming if you don't have the time
4 take home essays. not easy. but he'll help during office hours if that makes it better. quizzes on the 2 books we read but theyre easy cuz he goes over the book thoroughly. however, i will say BOOOOOOOORRRRIIINNGGGG CLASSS!!
Pacchioli is a very good professor who I recomend to anyone who likes or dislikes English calss. He makes it enjoyable which helps out a lot.He takes his time to explain poetry. Even if you don't read the book, you can still pass his quizes because they are mostly based the lectures which are very interesting and easy to remember.
A Verry good professor. The reading was very interesting and I learned a lot as well. English is not my favorite subject at all, but I worked very hard on the essays and got a B in the class. He is also very funny. I was laughing in his class since day one. I highly reccomend him, especially if you like english.
Boring. The first book is so bad, it's repetitive. Second book was better and more relatable. He has several 3-4 page papers. The research is 6 pages. He's over specific & anal about the littlest thing. He tries to be funny, rarely he is. I don't think you should take this class if you hate boring lectures, boring/not so easy papers, annoying prof.
He is a nice guy, but gets offended if you come late or miss class. You have 5-6 essays plus one research paper. Fair grader. Class is very, very boring. Very specific about papers, the topics are annoying.
He is a good teacher but he expects way too much from his students. He thinks his class is the only class that you're taking.
Very nice teacher, helpful, organized, clear. He shows compassion for his students and actually cares. He's understanding and puts effort into his job. Class is alittle boring but he tries and that's why I'm rating him high. Definately a good professor and person as well.
Tedious class , and dry teacher. You use the textbooks quite a lot, and they are extremeley boring. Avoid this teacher if you're looking for a more insightful english class.
Hands down, one of the best professors on campus. Insightful, informative and if you heed his advice, you will become a better writer.
He loves the Lakers, and food. He talks about the two EVERY class. He is a good teacher, he gets boring at times but if you work hard, it pays off. He will answer all of your questions. He is a really nice guy, kinda goofy. :)
Mr. Pacchioli is a really light-hearted interesting teacher. He cares about our papers and takes care in grading them and the grading is always fair. Reading the book is important, but he always goes over the chapter the next day in class so skimming a chapter isn't such a big deal to him. Great teacher overall.
Prof. Paccioli is a great teacher, even if he is a little quirky. Do the reading, show up to class, and you will get an A. His lectures are clear, organized, and interesting. He goes above and beyond to help students. I highly recommend him.
He is great! He keeps the class entertained every day by incorporating jokes into his lectures. He is veryyyy passionate about english and makes you want to be passionate about english as well. There is quite a bit of reading but if you show him that you are trying in the class by visiting him during office hours for help, you should be fine. Great
Pacchioli is most definitely a quirky professor. He does tend to his role as a teacher 100%, this guy is no Mickey Mouse Teacher. His composition class teaches students how to read and write. Not an easy "A", but the serious college student will appreciate his course. Although, I do think he can talk more about the technical styles of composition.
He is an amazing teacher. He talks about the Lakers a lot, but what Laker fan would be annoyed with that? We read 2 books, the first of which sucks. The second is an easy and interesting read. He cares a lot about his students and always has office hours going longer than what he has to do. If you're prepared with your essays, it's an easy A!
Not a good teacher. The books sucks and you wont learn anything. He doesnt know good writing if it came up and bit him on his a**. He will not teach you anything and the classes are ridiculously boring. I would rather watch golf than be stuck in his class.
I took his class for American Lit. The readings were important for understanding early America, but his lectures are sooo boring. His quizzes and tests are exactly what he covers in class so underline the text (if you can keep your eyes open). He is very strict on the structure of a paper, but if one needs his help is available to help.
I enjoyed his class very much, with having no previous desire to take him. Lectures are interesting and VERY clear! Tests are short answers on pretty much all the readings, 2 take-home essays, final was 2 essays but we were able to take the questions home and write it before, all he wanted was for you to space out time well. Not a difficult class!
This teacher is really funny. Has 6 essays during the semester and his lectures are fun. Talks alot about the lakers though.
He's a very good teacher because he is very passionate when it comes to teaching. He is an expert reader & critic when it comes to poetry and literature. So if you're one of those students who likes to read, then take him because he is NOT going to bore you at all. He is a hard grader when it comes to essays, but he will help you 100%.
Pacchioli is a great professor. His class isn't easy, you'll have to work for your grade. He's very clear in what he expects from you and he's always willing to help you with your essays.
He is a great professor but the class is hard and the books are boring.
Hilarious professor. Passionate about literature, the Lakers, and hating on Dick Cheney. Try to not miss a class and take lots of notes during lectures-- they end up on the tests! There aren't a lot of essay assignments, and he lets students run their thesis by him after class/during office hours.
You can really tell he's a smart guy. His patience is amazing though. This makes him a great teacher. He flawlessly handles even the dumbest questions from the class. If you are at least smarter than a fifth grader, you will get an A. It's all just reading and comprehending. His standard format is only about 6 to 10 paragraphs per essay.
his class is really boring...He is a hard essay grader. You can get a good grade if you start a long time in advance and ask him for help. If you don't ask him, he will give you a C or B....he is stubborn, not very encouraging...makes unwelcomed jokes about religion. You could get an A.I didn't but could have. Hes also very arrogant.
I loved this professor!! I got an A in the class. The essays get harder as the semester goes by, but if you stay on top of the readings they are not that bad. I never got anything lower than a B on my essays. Takes good notes during class. He is very helpful, he will go over your essays. He is very patient!! Recommended!! NO Extra Credit.
Such a fantastic Professor. He is extremely approachable, highly insightful and patient. His grading system is more than fair if you do the work and come to class prepared to discuss the readings. I was sad to see the class end.
Wonderfully entertaining, goes into in-depth discussion of the reading, very clear. As long as you pay attention in class and listen to the discussions you should be good for the once-a-month minitests and essays he assigns. This has personally been my literally favorite english class since I was a freshman in high school.
extremely kind and helpful teacher, you can tell he really cares about his students and what kind of grade they get. he is always at his office hours if anyone needs extra help and is a jokester in class. he is always making you laugh and his assignments are all fun and interesting.
Difficult class, but made me a better writer for sure. Very intelligent, sarcastic, and passionate about the material. Offers some real insight into the layers of analysis. Very entertaining and charismatic. Tough though!
Okay, this guy is absolutely hilarious. I never thought a teacher could be this hilarious until this class. He's a great teacher, will help you out if u have a hard time, BUT, his grading is not easy, and his material is not easy. Be prepared to do some hard work.
This guy managed to take what could be a painfully boring subject matter (Early American Lit) and made it hilarious. He does require students to be very thorough in their writing as his expectations are high, but he's a phenomenal teacher.
Honestly look forward to going to this class. He is am amazing professor. Keeps class interesting. Very fair grader, will help you with your essays and is very patient. Overall great professor, I would definitely take him again.
I enjoyed his class. I am taking him for English 2 in the spring. He has a sense of humor which makes sometimes dry reading easier to understand. He really likes teaching and it shows.
tough grader. gives out like 3 A's per semester, but an easy B i would say. interesting lectures and a funny guy, but i didnt learn as much about writing due to the nature of the class: the lectures are like sparknotes (going over summary and themes), and not necessarily about writing technique. wouldnt recommend to those who need an A
I liked his class. He has a sense of humor. Taking his English 2 in the spring. Class is spent in analysis of the two texts. Not really how to write. He likes to help, take advantage of his office hours. Hard to get an A but B is fairly easy.
He knows that early American Lit can be dry, so he makes the class a blast with his sense of humor. If you read the text and attend the lectures, you'll ace every test. Do all that and also get a head start on every essay he assigns, and you'll get an A or B on each paper.
I took Pacchioli for English 1, he was a great teacher as he was VERY funny, yet also understandable and easy to approach when I was having difficulty with some things. Just keep up with the reading, attend every lecture and you'll do fine.
Great teacher. Talks a lot about food and the Lakers.
He is very funny. The books he choses are kind of dull but he makes up for it in his humor. You only have one chance to get a good grade on your essay, he doesnt do rough drafts so use his office hours as much as you can. He also has quizes they can drop your grade so take them seriously.
Great guy, really tries to help you out, especially if you just pop by office hours. Great humor lightens up the class and what can sometimes be dry material, though he picks good readings. Really helps you see farther into the text than you might see otherwise, and his quizzes and essays aren't too difficult. both english 1 and 2 were great.
I took his english 1 class and I did not learn much about writing. he hands out assigment sheets that explain the structure of the essays. He expects you to follow the same exact strcture, so you cannot have fun writing those essay. also, if you have grammatical problems do not take him!
He expects too much out of a college student. Is not very clear. Contradicts himself at times. Uses the books all the time and just hands out essay assignments every week. Does not teach about writing essays or how to read text. Good sense of humor though.
This class is not an easy A, but I really enjoyed Pacchioli's class. There's an essay due almost every other week. The quizzes are super easy that just require you to pay attention in class. Good sense of humor, makes the already boring reading material interesting.
He is an okay professor. His Essays can be hard but if you follow the directions you will get at least a B. I wrote all my essays the morning of the due date and got a B every time. Research paper is ridiculous. He makes doing something fun into a really stressful experience. Good Luck!
great professor! super funny. knows lots of pop culture as well. essays aren't hard and he'll read rough drafts if you need him to.
I loved this class! I learnt so much from Professor Pacchioli and he is my favorite SMC professor!! The material is interesting and the essays are not hard if you follow his guidelines! Beware of your commas though ;) (He won't grade you down from them) Make use of his office hours! Amazing professor!
his class can be very boring because his class is just based of the text book never comes to class with a topic to talk about. he can talk about one poem for 2 hours no joke.. and he does not grade on your progress even if your essay is better than the last one he will still give you the same grade. i found it boring and hard to stay awake
AVOID! Doesn't help with essays just assigns them. Will talk about one chapter for an HOUR. That's it! He has a great sense of humor though. However, not the best if you struggle in writing.
This professors seemed like a good choice, but in my opinion he did not teach the class anything. Instead of teaching the class how to write, he was teaching the class how to follow directions to his essays. His method of teaching is assigning a chapter to read and then going over it for an hour. Not an easy A. Hard grader.
A friendly teacher that shows general concern for the student, if the student shows general concern for the class, that is. HIs class was based off the book and he shares insights on the assigned texts that would be impossible to pick up the first time reading, making his lectures as thorough as they are interesting. GO TO HIM BEFORE ESSAYS ARE DUE
If you don't link to read books I wouldn't recommend this class. You read 2 books. Final is a comparison essay, you gotta KNOW the book. If he notice the class didn't read the book he will give a pop quiz or dismiss class. READ THE BOOK. He does have a great sense of humor though. An essay due every week.
excellent teacher! let's just say that you will be amused to death. He has great sense of humor!you will enjoy his class just follow his syllabus guide line for the readings and you will be set.
Very particular! Each class is pretty much him going on and on about the books.. which you only read 2 so be prepared for him to ramble; painful to sit through. Loves the sound of his annoying voice and goes into unnecessary detail. He treats the class like we all don't understand. We get it! We're not 12. Drops you if you miss 2 classes in a row.
cares way too much about MLA!! would seize every minute of class time to finish a chapter! super long lectures! He's funny and he has a really good sense of humor but he always goes off topic. Hard grader!
Pacchioli is a great teacher and pretty funny but sometimes his humor is a little offensive. Still, he is great at his job and his class is not hard. I honestly didn't even do any of the reading for his American Literature class and I still got an A.
Great class. Pacchioli has a great sense of humor. Essays are due every other week, but they are fair, and you can definitely get As on them. How much effort and time you put into your essays will definitely reflect on the grade you receive. Do the reading assignments and participate in class and you'll do just fine! Highly recommend
Pacchioli is an expert on the literature he teaches, gives great insight. You will learn a lot from him. He's also very entertaining and funny. His essays (5) are a little difficult but he encourages office hour visits and he will work through the entire essay with you. Great teacher if you want to improve your writing and are willing to work.
This teacher is very knowledgeable of the English language and is very professional in how he organizes the class. He never stutters and his sense of humor is very amusing and can be hilarious at times. All his lectures and stories pertain to the subject matter of the topic of the day, which is always the book. Essay instructions are thorough. A+++
I barely read both of the books and did great. Just go to class and listen to lectures, he reviews everything from the chapters assigned the next day. Spend a lot of time on the essays because he is a tough grader and your grade is mostly based on them. Make sure to master MLA format. He is super funny so its not too hard to pay attention.
He practically makes you forget about everything you'd ever learned in English. so forget about any structure you memorized for the past few years on how to write a proper essay because his essays are written on a structure of his own. he is an extremely tough grader. He is super picky on commas, misspelling, fragments, quotations, etc. (warning)
The worst english teacher I have ever had, is extremely boring, you will just listen to him interpret literature mixed with bad jokes. English has always been my favorite class because of the discussions and interesting topics but none of this occurs in this class. Take Edelmann or Meyers instead
Okay class. You learn a substantial amount of information. Very tough grader, emphasizes grammar -- REAL life or death reviewing of your sentence structure. If your essay arguments are strong, he'll cut you some slack. You learn to be a better essay writer if you take the time to improve; he always always leaves specific notes on the essays.
He is a tough grader, and very tough on essay grading
This man is such a sweetheart! He is passionate about what he does and makes the class interesting. This course is not only good for English majors but also for political science and American history buffs. Pacchioli really gives his students a sense of each writer and time period he covers. He breaks everything down simply and tells amazing jokes.
This teacher is AMAZING, the best teacher Ive ever had. He's hilarious and makes you really wanna learn the subject. I have learned so much thanks to just attending his classes. A+++
Professor Pacchioli is a tough grader but is not unreasonable. He is a high caliber instructor that does a great job of going deeper int o the readings. I found myself very interested in each class discussion, and I would take him again! His analysis essays were definitely challenging, but fun as it improved my analytical skills!
I took Prof. Pacchioli for Eng 1 and he is by far the best english instructor I've ever had. He was extremely clear on what he expects in your essays. The texts we had to read were interesting, thought-provoking, and useful. Additionally, he respects and values his students points of view which I found refreshing. Truly inspiring instructor.
Really helpful and gives clear expectations of students throughout the semester
I was laughing out loud every single class. He was entertaining and provided many ah-ha moments that created a much deeper level of understands. Very light on reading considering it is a literature class. As long as you run your thesis/essay structure by him, you will do well on essays . As long as you put in the effort, you're good.
I enjoyed Mr. Pacchioli's English 2 class. The discussions in class about the literature were interesting and original. I enjoyed attending and would recommend this class.
Clear interesting lectures. Funny and entertaining personalities with good book choices. Very strict grader when it comes to the papers.
I owe this man a thank you! I was such a terrible test taker but the essays, attendance, and presentations helped me a lot. I passed with a B. He is hilarious. Yes you have to read a lot but this class was very amusing! Thank you!!!
Great proffesor. Extremely tough grader and will make you work extremely hard for an A but you will learn a lot if you put in the effort. The essays aren't super long but he will be extremely critical of punctuation and sentence structure. Make sure to go to his office hours, he will help as best he can.
He's a very difficult grader and it's hard to get even a B on some of his papers. He relies a lot on awkward, wacky humor. He picks fairly interesting books. I would recommend going to his office hours before and after every paper to figure out what exactly he wants.
I loved him! He is so kind and helpful and sweet. He gave great notes on our essays and always offered up his time to help us improve. I'm so glad I took him. There is a lot of reading involved, but class discussions are probably more important as those are what he bases the quizzes on. He's so funny too! Always cracking jokes! I recommend 100%!
Pacchioli is a gem. He has a specific structure in grading essays. He gives exams, you really need to critically read in order to pass. The final for his class a 2 part essay exam. His class consists of him and students discussing about an author and their writings. And he is always there to help!
Professor Pacchiolo, an informed and knowledgable individual who's lectures made it easy to understand complicated context from the books we read. 2 books assigned required critical thinking but interesting. Taking this class was such a great experience. He is very helpful and available during office hours for any help or questions. Great Guy!
His great sense of humor allows students to feel comfortable participating in class discussions! I learned a lot from this class and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to learn from Professor Pacchiolo ! He provides a criteria with clear and specific requirements needed in order to receive credit on essays. Participation highly recommended
professor pacchioli is a gem. super sarcastic sense of humor which i (personally) appreciate. I took ap and honors english in high school, then enrolled straight into his class my first year. class consists of reading and discussion (usually him just lecturing) with the occasional pop quiz. make sure to be on time to class because he'll notice.
You're gonna have to try if you want to impress him with your essays, as I noticed my grades were always 1 letter grade worse if I wrote them during an all nighter rather than over more than one session. That's a good thing, though, because he had a good way of making you feel like you wanted to improve due to his charming personality.
Was very hard to get exactly what he wants, very hard grader for very small details, and was rude when giving feedback. I advice choosing someone else someone who isn't so paper heavy and grades extra hard.
Well, he is not an easy Proffesor but it makes his class special, he is so so professional in his major. I was a person who doesnt like to read poems and plays but even Im so thankful to him. His oratory and relationship with students is amazing. He gives good feedbacks for the essays, which will be highly effective on your next essay!!
Here is the thing, if you want to improve your ability of understand English Literature, you should definitely take him. He is not an easy A Proffesor, sometimes grading is hard because he wants you to try your best. At the end of semester you will realize that youve discovered something on yourself such as passion to read poems!!
