This was the easiest class I have ever taken. Dr. Pappas lets you know exactly what is on the exams and they are very easy and straight-forward. I got 100% on a midterm with minimal study time! If you want an easy class take psych 102 from this guy!

Best professor in Psychology at the U of R. Only one who challenges you to learn. Treats his students like colleagues, an unheard of practice! He inspired me to take more psychology, I hope there are more profs like him at the U of R.

I'm actually turned off of psych because of him. I've done the worst on his test than I ever have on any test before and I studied my ass off. His major assignment is WAY TOO MUCH WORK. Nice guy. Interesting lectures but an overhead would be nice!

Lectures were interesting but talks very fast, hard to take notes. Tests were difficult - always multiple choice but asks questions on material no one remembers covering. Nice guy, tries to be helpful, marks hard and doesn't clearly explain expectations.

Easy, fair, and clear! His tests require quite a bit of studying since there are a lot of notes, but there are no assignments/ no homework so just study a little every night and you'll comepletely ace the class!

I had to drop this class because it was just too stressful to be taught by him. He makes you nervous by constantly yelling "don't copy this down!!" when you try to take notes. His tests are somewhat easy, but the stress isn't worth it.

James is a great person. If you like to write only 2 tests all semester, no homework or essays he is the prof to get. Watch out though, lot's of notes and only 2 tests so if you bomb one you are screwed. Material was ok pretty generic but James is a funny and good to look at prof!

Pappas is very willing to help out but it doesn't help when his TA is marking, cause the TA isn't looking for the same. This isn't an easy class, and he really needs to stop trying so hard to be cool.

he isn't bad but i don't think i'd take a class from him. it was easy to get bogged down in the material and the tests weren't THAT easy even though he made them out to be. you can do alright though. make sure you attend class. make sure you have the notes b/c txt readings are only additional

I found him to be a pretty bad prof. He got preachy in class, he's all "the system is corrupt" for clinical psychology, I found his lectures dull, and in class he told us to e-mail him for our goup projects marks, and when I did, he sent an e-mail back saying the university does not allow him to.

His tests are hard... even after he said "study your ass off" and I literally did... I still did just okay... I went in the final with an 'A' and came out with a 'B' - *sigh* You would think for a man who loves education so much, he would be more condusive to our learning!! Oh, and unapproachable.

I didn't care for Pappas whatsoever. Every lecture was unclear and he never failed to use an impossible 'word of the day'. I created lists of words he used everyday that I had to look up at the end of class just to make sense of his lectures. Take it with Dr.Shercliffe if you plan to succeed.

He may use words you've never heard but if you ask he'll explain,& you'll be better for it!He really cares about his students.Tests are all MC & he takes most ?'s verbatim from the notes.If you are familiar with them you'll do VERY well. I've taken many classes w him & he's taught me many foundational aspects of psychology that no one else did.

I think that james is a great prof. he is there to help his students and he makes the class fun. his class is great and exams are what one should expect. He does not swing a fast one on you with any exam. You have to take this class with him, you wilol not regret it.

Yeah he's a good prof. Extremely nice and genuinely wants his students to do well. Tests are pretty easy -- just show up to class, he has the powerpoint notes, and listen to what he says. Tests are practically directly from PP notes. I recommend him!

Something about him is a little off. He tends to ramble, and tends to make the subject fell a bit "wishy-washy" It seems like everything he talks about is linked to "resiliancey"..which he never fully explained. tests are easy, although, I they are entirely multiple choice& T&F, which isnt always to the students advantage despite what he might say

I don't know why there's negative comments on him. He's the best teacher ever!! He explains things very well and he's very helpful. He's a good teacher and his exams are based off of his slide shows. And it's all multiple choice, matching and true or false. Very easy!!! I reccomend him!! And I'll take another class with him!!! He knows his stuff.

Very good at explaining things, gives good real life examples. Instead of having essay questions on the tests he had group presentations. The presentations were a little demanding, but thats only part of the class. His test were very easy!

He is an excellent professor, but I find his exams extremely difficult. However, I am horrible at multiple choice. A course like Personality psych would lend itself so well to essay questions or even a term paper, alas, no such luck! Maybe there is something wrong with me though? Students aren't supposed to want to write papers.

I'm not sure where all the bad rating are comming from, but this guys is AWESOME! He is such a good prof and makes things so easy to understand. He has a lot of good stories from the field and is willing to go into as much detail as needed. Tests are all multiple choice, true and false, and matching. Know the powerpoint really well and you're fine.

Really was good as a 100 level class prof. Stimulates class discussion, listens and encourages questions and different views. If you attend class and follow, exams are long but pretty easy, if not, because of the large amount of material you are screwed. Rewards those who attend. Full of himself and somewhat annoying, but very good at what he does.

This was an easy summer class. He was very interesting and told lots of stories. Never went the full 3 hours - when he was done the material he wanted to cover, class was over. Exams are multiple choice. All exam questions come from his notes - I had a 70 and did not buy the textbook.

James is a nice guy, but going to class was a serious waste of my time. He does not teach anything relevant; he goes off topic into pointless, unrelated discussions. The notes are on powerpoint, but he just clicks through a view slides and then rambles. I was disappointed with this class.

James is an awesome prof. All his notes are on WebCT, you don't ever write anything down. He'll tell you, or ''hint'', at what's going to be on the exam, and as long as you study, you'll do fine. Never uses the textbook, don't even buy it! James likes to teach by experience and through examples, which is cool. He'll clarify anything you dont get!

I have had james for 4 of my Psyc classes, he is great. You can expect a 70 for just studing the webct notes. One great thing is that you don't need the textbook. Saves you money. He is very approachable and have a clear understanding of the materal. He has great stories to let. Easy tests, m.c., t&f, matching and usually bounus questions.

Easy to look at and to listen to. James does get off topic a bit - but tries to relate it back to the lecture material as much as possible. Not the best prof I've had, but I would definitely take his class again. His examples relate to real life practice which is helpful when studying the material.

I have to say I am finding his class to be rather enjoyable. True, he does digress alot, but he tries to find a way to relate it to the topic being discussed. The tests are usually T/F, Multi-guess and fill in the blanks. To those complaining about his "big word" usage; your in social science class, what do you expect? Use a dictionary!

Excellent prof. I have had him for 3 psych classes now and I'd take more if he's teaching the ones I Need. Extremely helpful and very easy to approach. Explains his material very well, and will explain it again if you're not clear on a concept. No papers, just 3 exams which you can do very well on if you read his notes.

I found him to be an awesome professor. He was enthusiatic about what he was teaching.He made you want to be there. I took 101 and 102 from him because I liked his teaching style. Gave you the notes via WebCT and had 2 exams: 1 midterm and 1 final. All you have to do is read the notes and you will do fine. Highly recommend taking a class from him.

This is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. He goes through his notes so quickly that you can't write anything down.. his test was impossible and had nothing to do with our notes. He doesn't help you with anything. He is awful. do not take a class from him!!!!!

Good prof who uses examples from the material related to his clinical practice. Exams are a bit tough and usually consist of MC and true/false but if you study the notes he posts word for word you will do really well.

He taught Bus, Gov, and Society with Urich so it was an interesting class. The lectures were entertaining even though they were a waist of time to watch. For the test just know the power points well and you should be able to get an A. There are two writing assignments that are very easy as well.
