Distance Ed Class; all exams are open book/notes; exams taken at home; will help with any questions if you ask; awesome professor!
I took this class during the summer and enjoyed it very much. Dr. Patterson is very thorough in his notes and clearly states his expectations up front. There is alot of reading in this course, but it is interesting.
Took the online class - he's very helpful and gives good reviews before tests.
Excellent online class. Highly recommended. Lots of reading, but all notes, test, everything is very organized and Dr. Patterson is very helpful and responsive to students.
great teacher! i wish i had taken him for history 1301. i highly recommend him as his schedule is all layed out and easy to follow. test are open book and he will help you with any answers that you get stuck on. requires quite a bit of reading and responding but well worth it. good luck!
His online class is easy the quizes are not timed and open book. His midterm and final exams are 2 hours and 100 questions but he provides you with online audio review. He also includes a midterm and final exam writings on two different books you have to read. LOTS OF READING! TOO MUCH! Hes an okay teacher I got a C in his class.
If you study you will get an A in his class. Very good lecture (keep me interest).

awesome! i'm taking him online this semester and his directions are extremely clear, concise, and the material isn't overly hard. Everything expected of you is laid out from the get-go. The entire semester's assignments are posted within a week of the class starting. the quizzes are easy and he provides plenty of notes. online discussions are a big part of the course, but they don't have to be complex, just thoughtful. I really enjoy him as a professor! I wish he'd teach all my classes!
Like others have said, you know from day one what is expected of you and you are able to work at your own pace. There is a lot of work and the midterm and final are not easy, but if you do the work and study you will do well. The essays are not overly difficult. When asked for 3-4 pages, give 4 or more.
Im taking his online history class and hes cool. you get to work at your own pase, you can get ahead or behind very easily. You need 5 discussion questions, midterm and final essays over two different books. midterm and final exams of 100 questions each. you also need to complete about 9-10 unit quizes and each is no more than ten questions.
A lot of reading. He give a quiz after every chapter and allow two attempts to pass. Participate in class discussion to earn an easy A toward you grade. Exams are hard but read your lecture notes.
Excellent teacher, really clear, and very helpful. Keep up with the assignments and you'll do fine. Easy A if u read and study.
This class requires a lot of work. There are 2 essays required for this class. Teacher is very helpful and responds to emails within hours. Syllabus is very straight to the point. All assignments are given the 1st day. Teacher gives plenty of time to complete all assignments. His reviews are great!!
Very easy class lots of assignments all assigned on the first day of class and all due on the last day of class. Take online if possible easy A.
i took his class online he seems to be a very nice instructor, he respond quickly to his student and he's very helpful.
Do all work and you'll pass with an easy A!!! Love him! Best teacher I've ever had! Midterm and Final require reading a book and doing an essay. If you don't do it...you won't pass with a good grade...So do what is require! He is the sweetest man too! Took him for Hist 1301...Now taken him for Hist 1302 cause he's Bad***!!!!
Took the online class and it was pretty easy. The tests seemed not to match up quite right with what was studied but if you follow the assignments and do the discussions it is easy. Very responsive to questions. For the quizes you are given 2 chances which REALLY helps!!
I took this class online. It seemed like a lot of work compared to my other online classes. A 6 page paper, lots of quizzes (13), class discussions and 100 question mid term and final! He did seem pretty helpful if you had any questions, and would respond quickly.
I learned alot from this class. He is a great teacher. I recommend him highly.
Kind of hard. He teaches with another professor online, so responses don't come back as quickly. He doesn't grade on a curve and his tests are SUPER hard, but the rest of the work is pretty easy, so if you do good on everything and fail the tests with 50's or 60's, you can still pass with a high B
Everything is online, which I like. Good lectures, audio reviews, power point review. Tests are fast so you better know your stuff. He will answer questions. You have to do 5 discussions, some tests (2 chances), a term paper. Material is there from the start, so you can have most of that done early and at your own pace. Learned a lot! Recommend!
took him online for texas history and will most certainly take him for all other remaining history classes. learned so much from this class - cant wait for next history class! very helpful, extremely fair, all material available at beginning of class for entire semester - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Took online, it was lots of work must read all material assigned. Quizzes you can take twice, there is a major essay which we had the whole summer to write/read book. Two exams midterm and final all online and you have 100 minutes for about 80 questions. Overall he is a great teacher, very easy to talk with and listens to you.
I highly recommend taking History 1301 online with Professor Patterson. Your grade dictates your dedication to the course. Sure, there's a lot of reading but it's worth it. "You get what you earn !" STOP BEING SO LAZY AND TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE !!!! Loved it.
Before I took hist 1302 with prof. patterson I hated history but he made it fun and interesting. I definately recommend him to other students. It's very easy to make an A but also very easy to fail if you decide not to do the work and not go to class.
Good teacher. You can tell he loves history. Tests are pretty challenging. A lot of reading, but it's worth it.
This is my 3rd and last semester to take Dr. Patterson. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to any student for all the history courses that you are required to take. I have take all 3 of my historys online and have done well each time.
"A" course. Took online. Lots of reading. Can take quizzes twice. Try to print because many of the questions will be on Final and Midterm.
"GREAT CLASS" If you are willing to do the reading (lots, not hard) you will get an "A". syllabus, lectures, powerpoints, quizes, writting, assignments, final, all very clearly laid out. I found the book "Texas" on tape(library)and listened in the car or when I needed to be doing housework, VERY HELPFUL!! Take this class you will be glad you did. I A
I LOVE THIS CLASS .TEXAS HISTORY..I TOOK IT ONLINE ... ..BEST EVER...LOT'S OF READING AND HARD WORK..YOU CAN TAKE THE QUIZZES TWICE FOR THE BEST AVERAGE..HE ANSWERS EMAIL QUICKLY...TAKE DR.PATTERSON FOR ALL HISTORY
I took Dr. Patterson's class online during an 8 wk term. All of the material was available up front, allowing me to go at my own pace and get ahead if my other coursework allowed. He's a fair grader, generous, even. A couple of essays and alot of reading. If you do the reading and don't get behind on assignments, you will do fine.
HE IS REALLY HELPFUL WITHTHE DISTANCE ED CLASSES
I have just started this class and I must say that I love it already. The book is online and downloadable. There are lots of different learning modules to study from and we only have to respond to 5 discussions for the entire semester. I will be taking his HIST 1302 class also.
This class isnt structured that well. The class is divided into 2 terms.A quiz on each chapter is given but the due dates are all the same. I don't like the book being online because I have 2 study by logging onto the computer which is bad cause after 8 hrs of computers at work I have 2 go home & study by logging onto the book online. MY EYES HURT!
I don't know what the previous review is all about but this is the most structured class I have ever had. I work with computers for 12hours too. Have people ever heard of printing out notes? Responds to email even over spring break. PROFESSOR PATTERSON IS THE BEST. MAKES A BORING CLASS VERY INTERESTING AND I TOOK HIM ONLINE. VERY HELPFUL
Its a lot of reading, but he make the notes interesting. Plus you can download his lessons to your mp3, before you take the midterm and your final exam.
His class is very interesting, and he saves you money by using the book online.
save money, easy class
I did distance education and I loved the class. It was easy in the sense that you get all your assignments upfront and you can work at your own pace. The book is online and you can print if you want. Lots of reading but as long as you do that you'll be fine. I really liked the class and would recomment this professor to everyone!!
Read lecture & pwrpnt notes and you won't have a problem. Very helpful, answers emails promptly. Materials are online even txtbk. If u don't pass this class u r a dunce. Gives the best review/study guide ever. Instruction, quizzes and all exams are online. 11 or 13 quizzes, 2 exams and 2 papers. HE IS THE BEST. TAKE HIM & YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT
THE BEST TEACHER EVER! I absolutely hated history before this class. If you need to boost your GPA then this is the class for you. You WILL learn because he LOVES his job. Excellent teacher and great person as well!
I have to say he is one of the Best professors out there .You would think History would be boring , NO !not w/ this proff .Powerpoints r gr8 .took him for both hist1 &2 and I loved it .U learn, have fun, and reading and writing assignments are so interesting .Thanks for a wonderful class:)
Too much notes to read, most of the Exam questions is not in the notes and also he is not concern about your grade. please runnnnnnnnnn for this class.
He is an okay professor. The only thing I did not like about this internet class was that the test were to long any where from 90 to 100 questions on the test and exam and he only gives two hours on all test and exams.
Such a great teacher I took him twice. Notes are concise and audio lecture is VERY helpful. Free online book. You will have to read but...it is a history class right? Took him online 8WK class and loved it. Very organized and helpful. No extra credit but you won't need it!! Wish my other classes were like this.
He responds quickly to email. His online class is highly organized and all tests are online. You get a very generous 2 hours for the midterm and the final exam, with only 80 questions for the midterm and 100 for the final. Your term paper only has to be 5 pages long. Yes there's a lot of reading; this is college not grammer school.
Too much notes to read.Exams too long, 100 questions for 2 hours. Most of the questions were tricky.Term paper had to be 5 pages at least and you had to read a whole book of 200 pgs in order to write it.It was too much.On the other hand, he was very organized, everything was on-line,you do not have to purchase a book, you have all the materials.
Do't be fooled by the easy quizes, a failed midterm or final could turn you down. His midterm and final is extremely hard, only a few repeated questions can be found from previous quizes. Limited time for midterm and final with as much as about 70 questions to answer. It's your own risk.
Teachers can be rather unclear at times; and quizzes are tricky. There is alot of reading. Don't fall behind!...
Great course! You will have to stay current with the reading in order to do well in the course. The midterm and final will be difficult if you do not have a good memory because there will be many questions to answer. The instructor has excellent lecture notes and the course is very well structured. I took the online course and it was awesome.
This is a easy class. Keep up with all your reading because you will need it for the final. Weekly quizzes which are not hard and he let you take them twice. Midterm and Final all done online. Easy Online class but he does have a hard midterm and final.
I'm taking my second class with Patterson and I've really enjoyed both of them. He puts a lot of work into making sure his students succeed. Tons of lecture notes are provided. His reviews accurately reflect the information you need for the test, and he provides an audio guide for each of them. Love the first hand sources in his Virtual Reader!
He makes you read a LOT of notes and most of them aren't even on the quiz. We also have to read a book where the chapters are 40 pages long and it can be hard to keep up with if you work a lot. quizes are easy, midterm is easy if you study a lot and finish it fast enough. I dont like the amount of notes we have to read though. It can be challenging
Great professor! If you're lazy, try another class. There is plenty of reading...it's History! Quizzes are simple, midterm and final are a challenge but passable. Easy A/B, just be ready to read. Responds quickly and willing to help.
Took him online for hist 1301 &1302. Great teacher.Responds to email on time.Timely feedback on your work but it is a lot of reading.two major exams(midterm and final) which has 100 questions each and quizze which you have two attempts and he divides the two attempt by 2.Easy A if you can read
Great teacher. Quiz for every chapter, midterm, 1 three page paper, and final. Has a audio review for midterm and final. Answers emails, uses online notes and book, will take again for tx history.
A lot of reading!! great teacher though and helpful. The quizes are fair but tests are difficult. I guess if you take him in a regular semester the work is less, I dont recommend him for a short term.
At first, I was afraid to take HIST, but he made the class enjoyable, despite all the reading we had to do. And his audio reviews are the best. What he talks about in the review is exactly whats on the test. Listen to the reviews. I did, and received an A. I loved this class, especially, the discussions. I learned that people are weird.
Great professor. Took his 8-week online course. Listen to audio reviews and take notes. I encourage you to print out the online textbook, it will help. Great experience and taking him in April for HIST 1302.
A lot of work, thick fictional novel based on historical events, text book, lecture notes, PP's & Virtual Tour links. HOWEVER, he is very helpful and responds to emails quickly, he's always online. 13 units with all of some of materials, 2 attempts at quizzes. discussions are graded midterm/final are only exams. Keep up & you'll be fine, made an A
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this class. I especially liked the audio reviews. They were extremely helpful. Wish more teachers with online classes would do the same. I made an "A", and that was going in without much interest. I highly recommend him, but it's hard getting into his classes. They fill up quickly.
13 easy quizzes, midterm, one major 4 page essay, 2 minor 1 page essays, 5 discussion board post. Everything online. Clear, direct, very helpful. Gives you lecture notes, powerpoints, and audio reviews for both test which are extremely helpful. The only hard part is the book. Super thick but you can always not read it like me and still get a B
Took this class on line-EXCELLENT!! His Blackboard is clear and concise. Entire semester is posted and you can go at your own pace for the most part. Lecture notes are clear and PowerPoints really added to the units. Quizes are untimed; Tests are timed. Two minor papers and one major paper. Answers email very promptly. Loved this class!
Well organized course. All textbooks are free and online. Professor answers questions within a day.
GREAT TEACHER. TOOK HIM FOR AMERICAN HISTORY 1 AND TEXAS HISTORY. VERY CLEAR AND HELPFUL. DO THE WORK AND YOU WILL GET A GOOD GRADE
Books are free. Syllabus is clear. I took this online due to my busy 40 hrs+/wk work schedule. I was 3 pts short from an A but he would not give me extra credit work to let me earn that 3 pts. It would've been cool of him if he offered students extra credit work if there were in the same situation as me. Overall, he's a good professor.
Did all my work all, did not complete one paper made an F in his class I did all the discussion that he gave. He is a good tech. Make sure you ask him if your passing in class.
I love this teacher!! He's very considerate of his students. I got into an accident and he let me take my test when I was ready and assignments. He has an online book so that you wont have to buy one and all his study guides help with quizzes very well. great teacher, easy work! if you do the work i guarantee you will pass with a good grade!
This guy requires too much reading in a short period of time. He has more readings for one exam than I have for all other classes...combined.
This is a easy class as long as u go exactly by his syllabus..quick response to emails u want regret taking him
He is an extremely understanding and awesome professor. His midterm and final are okay as long as you study your outline you do not have to use your book for this class. Would love to take him for 1302 but his classes fill up quick.
DE class. Syllabus was easy to follow. No book required, he provides online resources. 13 un-timed unit exams (2 tries each), one semester writing paper (3 pages), 1 mid-term paper, (1 page), timed mid-term (2 hrs, 90 questions) and one final answer to question during timed final (2 hrs, 80 questions). His questions are tricky. Reading a must!!!
Dr. Patterson is awesome! Really nice and funny guy. His class is so straightforward and really interesting. Quiz and test questions are a bit tricky, but not too hard if you've done the reading. Definitely take him if you need to take any history classes!
Great Teacher. As long as you follow notes and read your material you should pass.
Enrolled last semester in the online class but dropped it because it was way too time-consuming. It included LOTS of reading, but the turnoff for me was the thick, boring Tx hist novel with the microscopic print. On top of all the reading, the test and quiz questions are VERY tricky. Instructor is very sharp and responsive. Syllabus very clear.
Great proffessor, make the class interesting and is firm with the rules of the class but will listen to the students concern. Made an A in the class but I had to work for it.!
Great proffessor, well organized,experienced,well-planed and make the class interesting and is firm with the rules of the class but will listen to the students concern. Made an A in the class but I had to work for it !
This Professor is awesome,he is very well planned, organized, and grades quickly. If you send an email, HE WILL get back with you. He has a very interesting way of helping you with the mid-term and final, for those of us that took his class online he had an audio version of his mid term review and final review, I wish all professors did this.
I took online course. Textbook avail online. You don't have to read it to make an A in his class. I used the notes/powerpoint/midterm/final audio from him. Total 13 quizzes, 5 discussion,2 tests (midterm/final) and 1 book essay. You have to work for your A in this class. If you want an easy A then this is not for you.
Super overwhelming class. time consuming, do not take it in summer or you will go crazy. "13 quizes, 1 assigment, 2 (90) question exams (tricky) with essays, 5 discussion. You got to have plenty of free time to do it all. 3 books required, 1 is really necessary to do the writing assigment. :S
I took him online for HIST 1301 and 1302. Textbooks are available online. Total 13 quizzes, 5 discussions, 2 tests (midterm/final) and 1 book essay. Time limit is 2 hours for 90 very tricky questions for each exam. Paragraph essay during final with no extra time allowance. You have to work for your A in this class. He grades fair and generous.
I took him online for HIST 1301 and 1302. You have to work for your A in this class. Textbooks are available online. Total 13 quizzes, 5 discussions, 2 tests (midterm/final) and 1 book essay. Very umcompassionate and not interested in the welfare of a student
I studied so hard, did everyhting that I was supposed to do but what baffled me is that when I wasn't able to cut and paste the essays, he was very unforgiving and took away some points from me. I ahve had so far excellent teacher but him he tops it all as the teacher from HELL.
He does not care if his students pass. I got an "F" after I studied, did all the quizzes and essays. He even removed some points from my essay because I was unable to cut and paste. I did send it to his email that same day I was taking the exam of about almost 90 questions in only 2 hours.
Don't be deceieved, DO NOT take his class. You will never pass it no matter what.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this teacher. I took his class online for Hist 1302 last Spring. He's great! His quizzes are very easy, he even gives you the option to take it again if you fail the first attempt. He answers your questions/email very quick. I'm going to take Hist 1301 with him again online. I will recommend him to other students. he's great!!
great professors
Just finished his online HIST 1301 which is a 5 weeks term. I got 89.23 for the final grade on the eagle online and just discovered that my final grade displayed in the HCC student system is A! This class is helpful. It is also easy if you study the lecture notes. I love this class.
His class was crazy he gave some many books to read and the exames were out of this world.
Dr. Patterson is the BEST he gives you all the information you need to succeed in his class. You will not regret taking him. It is a lot of reading but he breaks everything down in his powerpoints.
Took him for the 5 week online class. 13 Quizzes, 2 Exams, 1 Semester writing assignment, and 5 discussion questions. Great teacher he answers emails fast and grades papers quickly. I would highly recommend Dr. Patterson
in 5 weeks he has you do 2 exams, 3 essays, 5-6 discussion and 13 quizzes (many containing questions that were completely pointless in historic context). I wish Joella Robinson offer 1302, I took her for 1301 online and she was so much better.
Just finished the 5 week 1301 class. Uses multiply textbooks including on-line books and reading assignments are excessive. Would not recommend to take this class if you have other classes.
A++ Not an easy "A", but GREAT CLASS! Lots-o-reading; 13 UNTIMED quizzes; Timed midterm & final (2 hrs ea.) - consists of 86 true/false + multi-choice + essay; 1 term paper; participation in 5 of 17 discussions. I've never seen a professor (in-class or online) put forth such effort in creating impeccable notes, presentations, and test reviews.
LOTS OF READING...DETAILED QUESTIONS ON QUIZZES, MIDTERM, AND FINAL ABOUT READING ASSIGNMENTS. TWO PAPERS THAT ARE BRUTAL...NOT AN EASY CLASS!
I am taking this class now, it is HARD never seen anything like this. take olivares is the best. He ask tricky Questions, he get the questions from small parts in the texts u wont even notice it. do not takeeeeeeeeeee plz. I have taking online classes 2 years I am used to it but this is the hardest class I ever seen.
I took the first quiz and thought the class would be pretty simple, but HECK NO! This is the worst class EVER. The quizzes and tests are like taking the AP exam, but 10x harder. b/c he gives you a book but you can't find the answers in the book, and when you think you answered a question right based on the book, ehhhhhhh its WRONG! Dont take!!
I took the online 1302 class and pretty much worked at my own pace with a few deadlines. The class is straight forward and enjoyable. Theres one paper due and 2 tests weekly quizzes that can be done before each test.Prof Patterson is great and lot of help
This is a college class so expect a lot of reading. I highly recommend this instructor. He is helpful, quick to respond, and he wants you to succeed. He gives you everything you need to pass this class. His notes are excellent. Print them out, read them, understand them, and you will pass. I made an A in this class.
This class is very well structured, you can tell that he have been doing this for a long time. there's lots and lots of reading.and for the quiz/tests the multiple choices are super tricky. just keep up with the reading, quizzes, and deadlines and you'll get an A
Although history is not my favorite subject, I enjoyed this class (1301 & 1302). Prof. Patterson is very knowledgeable of the topic and always interested in assisting his students. His true goal is to make sure you understand and that you pass the course. If you fail his class, it's honestly because you didn't try!
Dr. or not, the instructors should realize that the students work and pay for the classes. Not everyone is on financial aid, or unintersted. Not everyone was born an A student.
Such a great class to take! I had attempted online classes and history classes before but this class was amazing!! He included a lot of helpful material which made the class fun and interactive! The best part was that you learned a lot about your state and it was a "go at your pace" type course. no weekly assignments due!
took it online on Spring 2013 ..Quiz are very easy and could be found on Google ..Very easy A on quiz, yet easy D on mi and final test ( hard to find on Google ).. He answers to emails very quickly.. I got 100% on all my quiz, yet I got D in this class because I fail the mi and final test (2h ---80 questions + 1 essay )
If u want your GPA to go down go take this man. He is useless I'm telling u. I made 90s and 100s on all my quiz and on my semester writing i mad 90 and i was hoping for an A+ but NO. His MIDTERM & FINAL are super hard.Nothing from the quiz if i mean nothing i mean nothing at all they are super hard. DO NOT TAKE HIM please you'll regret.i made a C
Interesting class. Quizzes and tests come entirely from his lecture notes/powerpoints, and the excerpts from his book that he provides the link for. Prof didnt respond very quickly to emails, but the class was easy. Listen to his review for the final/midterm. 1 major writing over a biography on Sam Houston- need to read it to do well on the paper.
The best history prof I can recall from all of my years of education. Entertaining and a joy to sit in for lecture.
I do not know how put it, but this professor makes you READ READ READ AND READ, and at the end you do not understand anything. if you pass than you will pass not knowing anything from history. I would not recommend him at any time, he makes you write essays each exam. For an easy class he make it horrible
I think he if a fair professor. It is not an easy class, but what do you expect this is a college class. You have to read all the material if you want to do good in this class. The class consists of participation in 5 discussions, quizzes for each subject, a midterm, a final, and an essay. He is very clear on due dates and describing assignments.
Great!Great! teacher. He is pretty laid back. He is very helpful. Gives a lot of group assignments which were pretty easy. He's extremely fair, good attitude and friendly. All finals are on-line, he gives three attempts. I took him for both 1301 and 1302 passed with A and B. Take him he's knowledgeable and a good instructor.
Dr. Patterson was a great professor! His lectures are very clear, cohesive, and not boring at all. His classes are usually 1 hour lecture 1 hour group activity. If you finish early, you get to leave before time! He's very helpful and he really wants you to pass. Midterms and finals can be taken 3 times. i definitely recommend him!
I took him for my hist 1302 class and I took it online. We had weekly assignments that you had to read for and weekly quizzes over the chapters. Not very hard but you just have to keep up. Tests are online so they're pretty easy as well.
Just finished his class. Pros- easy quiz, 2 tries, all on the notes he gives. His midterms and final have an essay which counts as 20 pts and you do that BEFORE the test so easy 20 pts. You do a very easy discussion 100% for that part of grade. Cons- History has alot of info so you need to STUDY and READ.
Be ready to work for this grade. He is an overall good professor, but does not give good feedback AT ALL. Midterm and final are difficult even if you read all the articles and textbook. I was 2 points from receiving an A but he still gave me a B. I would not take ever again.
This was my first online class and it was AWESOME!! all assignments are given in advance with no surprises. I will definitely take him again. Do the work and you will pass.
Awesome Professor. Get ready to read!! Read his PPTs and lecture notes and readings he assigns. But I rarely read the Text book. I made a B because I missed the deadline on the Semester Writing. :((
took his class in summer. i was only 3 points from receiving an A but he still gave me a B. There are quizzes, discussions, final, midterm and a paper. midterm and final have an essay. Not very hard, you just have to STUDY
For the online class worry much on midterm/final 45% of grade, too many quizzes for 20%, one writing for 20% and discussions for 15% not an easy class, am advise you to take him on lecture not online
Dr Patterson is a good instructor, he responds to email quickly. The class is tough but you will do well as long as you study. I will surely recommend him.
I'll be 100% honest, this class is extremely easy only if you do your work. I took this class online. There are quizzes and discussions which are fairly easy if you read the notes provided. The great thing is that you have freedom in this class, no strict due dates, and fairly fast replies to email.
I Just love this lecturer, if you read you will def get an A. He grades well, immediate feedback on emails and on assignments ,interesting class. Even though i took this class online. I enjoyed it almost as much as if it was face to face
This class was easy when I took it. The class itself was just readingt the textbook, taking a quiz, then do a few discussions. The teacher grades regularly. The work in this class is easy to understand, and the teacher replies fairly quickly when you have questions.
i don't understand why people rate this man with such good rating, he is difficult, grades really tough and makes you do a whole lot of work, he needs to understand that history is not the only course people take, and we can't spend all our time reading very long chapters and articles. if this is the only course you have to take the, then go on
Took his online class. Be ready to read and study. 13 quizzes, midterm and final exams, and 1 midterm essay that requires you to read to answer the questions. there are 2 attempts to do each quiz, no time limit. Exams are difficult so you need to study and there is the time limit. Need to study really hard
Very easy if you are smart and not lazy
Even though he requires you to buy a book, you will not use it if you know how to maneuver via the interwebs. I've had the book for both 1301/2 and I only read a paragraph. GOOGLE AND F3, yw. That's all I'm saying. Regardless, Patterson's class is very easy and he delivers his lectures really well, he'll only make you do a groupwork sheet in class.
Not a good prof at all. Very strict on grades and isn't clear about the assignment. Not at all recommended for online class.
The Midterm and Final exam are super hard. The questions aren't just based on historic facts alone. It asks for like what was the mood or tone of this letter written to this person, and etc. Or how did this person feel during this time, and etc. Have to read to learn the facts or will fail the Midterm and Final. 10 ch, 2 exams, and 1 writing.
Clear grading, be sure you are actually reading and understand the material, there are several quizzes.
The only plus point is there is no textbook required. But he assumes every student taking his class has his sole course, or a history major student. The majority of questions in the midterm and the final exam can be found somewhere in the middle of the deep Amazon jungle. It's an EASY C or B class. If you take this professor, good luck to you.
Lots of reading you have 2 papers which are easy. you have chapter quizzes and crosswords. If you read everything you will get an A if you skimp you can get a high B. BEST PART all assignments are open the first day set your pace!!!
I took his hybrid class and all assignments and required reading for the semester was visible online. This made it easy to plan ahead. However, there was a ton to read, and the test questions often didn't seem like the most important details, but they were open book. I didn't come out loving history but it's a good class to take with harder ones.
He is a truly great man. I showed up to class everyday, listened to him telling intersecting stories, did a little worksheet at the end and boom, easiest A ever in my life! He is caring, respectful, responsive and willing to help. I could not ask more from him.
Great prof. Wish i could have had him for my prior history class. Lots of reading (of course) but the information was all extreamly interesting and i appreciate all of the additional resources he provided to us. Only a few major deadlines for this online class - self pased mostly.
VERY HARD MATERIAL HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND HIS QUESTIONS DOES NOT RELATE TO THE MATERIAL HE PROVIDES EVEN THE BOOK
LOTS of reading. LOTS. But the assignments/expectations/grading criteria are super clear, no surprises. Everything done online including the final. Professor is easy to get in touch with. He definitely makes you earn your grade but as long as you can keep up with the heavy reading load you'll be fine.
Very tough grader very difficult material quizzes and exams are so difficult and you cant find them in the resources he provide
The hardest subject everrr he complicated the history class heavy reading I dont recommend at alllll
very hard and tough grader i dont know why some students give him good rate i dont recommend his resources are so hard
omg very hard subject also he made it very hard
I took Professor Patterson's hybrid class and really enjoyed it. He shows respect for all of his students and clearly explains the course material. He also uses a free online textbook, which was a great bonus! I don't have any complaints about his class. I wish I could have taken him for HIST 1302!
Free online textbook with A LOT of reading & LOTS of assignments. Wouldn't recommend unless it's your last option.
I took Professor Patterson's hybrid class and really like it! His assignments on Canvas are well-organized. Attendance is mandatory. Also, all the materials for this class is free. He is very respectful and understanding towards his students. I thought Hiroshima (semester essay) would be hard, but I enjoyed reading it!
An amazing teacher if I paid more attention I would have got an A. I recommend everyone to take him....
Took him during a eight week course online. A lot of reading, and hes extremely clear in what he's looking for and how hes grading our work. Pretty straight forward, no complaints here. I would take him online again if needed.
One of the most mean professor I've come across all through my schooling. So inconsiderate towards people.
I wanted to drop this class at first cos of what I read here which was true but I decided to do it. I really hate how he is more concerned with English grammar and spellings. Last time I check its history and not English. Aside that, everything is okay if you study well.
Write well and clear, and the writing essay portions are easy. 2 writing essays, 4 paragraphs of group discussion. The big exams questions are almost all based upon prior work and questions. If you can answer any question the professor has ever asked you in this course, you WILL do well on the mid and final. Prof will subtly hint at this.
Well , his class is okay...I took him online but only problem is he does not give any extra credit assignments and that didnt help me much since I was never great with memory and history.
Took his class online. He is very organized and clear. Provides extensive/helpful notes. Quiz and discussion every unit & 2 writing assignments. There are two books to read, but I got an A without fully reading them. Dr. Patterson answered all my emails & questions. He is very respected and I definitely recommend taking him!
He was a great professor for this class. He knows what he is doing and does a great job presenting his material. His quizzes are very simple and from the textbook. You get 2 attempts on everything including the final exam. He does have a midterm and a major paper towards the end of the semester but its easily doable. Take him if you have the chance
Grades were over 10 quizzes (all accessible on quizlet), 4 discussion questions (had about 12 to choose from, very easy), a semester writing (over Benjamin Franklin reading), a midterm (bout 80 questions, a short essay), and a final (100 questions). Everything is on powerpoint, Professor is willing to help if asked for it. Easy to follow lectures.
Theres 2 writing assignments , one at the end of the course over a book youre supposed to be reading simultaneously while doing chapter quizzes and discussions. Everything is clearly stated in the syllabus, very easy to follow .
His class is pretty easy. Only 4 required discussions. The quizzes are easy, you get two attempts, one writing assignment which he offers a free textbook.
This professor is big on spelling. Make sure you use Grammarly for your class discussions. He is very understanding and as long as you read your assignments, you will pass.
I took professor Patterson tor HISTORY 1301. Hes really great and laid back. There are 13 modules. 13 quizzes. He gives you 13 discussions but only makes you do 4 of them. 2 before and after the midterm. He gives a midterm, final, and autobiography of Ben Franklin. He doesnt give extra credit, so make sure you do all assignments.
Class had clear guidelines: lectures, quizzes for each lecture/module, discussion posts, a midterm, a final, and a writing assignment. Professor Patterson does a good job of teaching as well as connecting with his students. He breaks down the material to an understandable level and approaches the topics from multiple perspectives. Highly recommend!
My grade in his class was a 89.04. He didnt want to give any extra credit because its somehow "unfair" to other students. He also asked to please not ask him to bump your grade. So, I had emailed him begging him if there is something I could please do since I was 1 point away from an A and he kept saying no. I have all A's beside himDONT TAKE HIM.
AVOID HIM!!!! trust me i got A's in all my classes beside him. I got 89.50 and asked him for extra credit but he said no!!! his exams even hard if you get 80 in one exam forget that you will get a also he is more english class more than history. he will takes points for usinf resources he only wants from textbook or powerpoints.
Very serious about the syllabus. He makes a clear understanding that there is no extra credit or any other way to increase whatever grade you got. Do not miss any days because you cannot make up the group work assignments that are 15% of your grade. I would take another one of his classes again if I need to.
Asynchronous 5-week summer class. The course was very well organized, with lecture notes, powerpoints, video lectures, as well as textbook readings available to help us understand the content. 13 quizzes, 4 discussion posts, an essay, a midterm, and a final. Dr. Patterson was good at replying to emails quickly and giving feedback. Would recommend!
a little difficult for me taking over the summer, but overall good professor. gives you all the work and gives you syllabus and study guides.
Amazing. His essay topics were so cool. We all learned the same stuff about Tx history but he wants you to look at it from a different point of views. I recommend buying the book at the beginning of the semester because I waited until a couple days before the essay and ended up spending $30 on a book. He is an amazing professor.
I took Hist 1301 over the summer and got an A. Not an easy A, but everything you need to know is on the syllabus. If you pay attention during lectures, read the very short textbook chapters, and write well on the 2 essays you'll do fine. He gives you the textbook and Franklins biography for free. I recommend him and I'm taking 1302 with him.
Took him for online anytime during summer. Very easy just follow instructions exactly. Only consisted of 12 quizzes, 4 discussions, 2 essays, 1 midterm exam and the final exam.
Summer 5 weeks online anytime course. Very easy class. He grades tough when you don't follow instructions. Not too much work given. Doesn't give extra credit.
Prof. Patterson's online anytime course is clear & easy. Everything is posted from day 1, & it is sectioned off in two parts (1st 8wk/2nd 8wk). There are multiple quizzes based on multiple resources with 2 attempts for each one. Only 2 discussions, a mid-term, final exam, & 1 essay based on a short book. Didn't have to pay extra for anything!!!
my favorite prof ive ever had the class is 13 quizzes, 1 writing assignment, 2 class discussions, midterm, final Quizzes are easy if you read the material. Midterm/final is a combination of the quizzes. you can tell he really cares. I missed the deadline for the final and explained what happened and he let me retake. reccomend 100% love this guy
The class calendar and workload was easy to understand. Discussions and homework assignments every week. Lots of reading but that's normal for a history class. Professor is easy to talk to and responds quickly. I never felt lost or behind in class.
There is a quiz for each chapter, a midterm and final and a term paper. Good thing he is not a harsh grader just follow the rubick and read the monograph provided. Midterm and final has 80-100 questions. He provides excellent powerpoints. He also provides all materials needed so no need to buy textbook nor monograph. Definitely would take again.
Prof. Patterson's online class is straightforward. Quizzes, discussions, a midterm, and a final - all manageable with the textbook. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep. Solid course, would recommend.
Taking this as a online anytime class. Super chill and nice guy! His class is fairly easy with just a couple quizzes, 2 discussions, midterm, one paper (which you can write about anything relating to the course so it's fairly easy), and a final. He gives you lots of time to complete them. He's clear on what he expects.
Chill professor and very easy class. Graded by a few quizzes, 2 discussion posts,1 paper, and midterm/final no LDB. Highly recommend.
Took this class as online anytime. I mainly learned using the lecture notes, but textbooks and pptx are also available. Assignments mainly include hw quizzes, midterm and final, and one paper. Also some discussion posts. Nothing too stressful. Professor is pretty nice and lenient. Really recommend and would take again.
Thirteen chapters. Book is made by professor, available free. 1-2 quizzes each chapter, easy to get an A on all of them. Open book. Midterm & final open-book and easy. Quiz question pool is in exam question pool. Writing assignments easy. BE prepared to read and pay attention to all that you learn in the chapters! He's a nice professor.
Extremely easy class. 13 chapters, a quiz for each, they have no more than 20 questions, you get 2 attempts. Complete any 2 discussions of your choice for each semester. There's a midterm and final exam, mcq and superrrr easy. I definitely recommend this professor.
The professor is very nice and a lenient grader, there are only 2 discussions within the 16-week course and a quiz for each chapter. There are 2 exams and 1 paper although you want to make sure you do well on the exams because they weigh a good bit. Overall, I liked the class, there is no extra credit or rounding up.
He a good professr he communicates tell you what to do i took him online anytime and he was really good you can email outside of class time and he will email you definitely recommend.
I took this class online over the summer. Such an easy history credit with mostly multiple choice quizzes, two discussions, two multiple choice exams (midterm and final), and one essay. Take this class for an easy history credit.
I took him in the last two months of the fall semester. This class was very easy, with multiple choice quizzes on each chapter, two discussions, two multiple choice exams for the midterm and final, and one essay. No LDB. Very easy just follow instructions and you will get an A. I would take this again for a simple history credit.
