I loved his insight. His feedback on the essays was very helpful. I feel I received a strong understanding of the subject matter. I would have liked to had more freedom on the topics we had to write about, especially on the longer essays, but I understand why he structured them the way he did. All in all great class great professor!!

Easy to communicate with the Professor despite being an online class. Assignments were a little fuzzy as to the requirements for grading. Overall, an interesting class and a good, helpful Prof.

I enrolled in this course to meet credit requirements. I finished this course because I enjoyed it. Professor Powell was very clear about his expectations regarding student participation, the calendar and work quality. His feedback was very helpful,positive, respectful and enlightening. I took his online religion 101 class. It isn't a hard class but he is strict with his word limit with essays and discussions. Also, with essays make sure you incorporate terms from the lesson as much as possible into it because you won't get full credit otherwise.

AWESOME CLASS. Really makes you think and opens your mind to new ideas. Highly recommmended class done by a very engaged professor who really seems to enjoy teaching the class.

Seemed very challenging for a 101 level class. Although very involved and knowledgeable, it was sometimes very difficult to know what he would consider a good response to his more open ended test questions.

I had a good experience with this class. this was my first online class and I was sacred at first. But Mr. Powell was clear and direct with all of the assignments.

Projects really made you ponder what you had read. Some of the material was a little harder to grasp so the paraphrased notes really helped clear up some issues.

Great! Very helpful. He always got back to me in a timely manner. He took the time to write back to each discussion and did voice recordings so we could hear him which was very nice.

Very intelligent instructor. I took this course knowing I was a good writer; the class forced me to take my writing to another level. The readings are complex, but the instructor really puts effort into explaining the readings and what knowledge should be gained from the assignments. I had no religious background before the class.

I feel that for an introductory religion class, it was a bit more difficult than it should have been at times (such as some of the questions on quizzes that were worth only 5 points). Other than that, this class was great and very interesting. I feel that I learned a lot.

I find some of the professors feedback to be too generic and I feel that some of the grading was a bit unfair, but for the most part he was very helpful and offered a challenging yet very doable course.

I really enjoyed this class and i am glade that i had the professor i did. I think that the notes and outlines he had really halped understand the material.

I found the professor to be available and nice all the time! He was very helpful with questions I had and although the class was a little advanced at times, he was still a great teacher. I learned a lot from the class as well.

I felt this class was a bit harder than an introductory class should be, however, Professor Powell always made himself available to his students for extra help. I learned a lot!

I must admit that this class was far more involved that what I thought it would be, and not what I expected from an introduction to religion class. It seemed more like an upper level class, but it definitely was effective in teaching a lot about the different concepts involving religion. This professor gives the student an outstanding experience.

Prof. Powell is one of the best profs I have had so far. He explains things well and his feedback for assignments is great. It is constructive while also offering techniques that could help to get a better grade in the future or explains exactly what he is looking for if a mistake was made.He also offers other insightful thoughts on the subject.

I didn't really know what to expect going into this class. I had an interest in learning more about religion but I didn't expect the breadth and depth in which we covered. Not only did I learn about some different religions but also how they function for society and the experience one gets from being religious. I enjoyed it.

Dr. Powell was very friendly and quick to answer questions. I felt there was a lot of homework in this course, but do appreciate all of the knowledge that I have gained. I like that, for being an online course, it was very interactive. Grading was fair and many assignments were opinion based, which kept my interest. Great professor and course!

This course was very helpful in gaining an understanding of how religion functions in society and gave us a broad understanding of the major religions. Dr. Powell exhibits a passion for religion that is reflected in his teaching. This is not an easy course, but worth it for anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of religion.

This is a fun course. Mr. Powell is a great teacher with a great personal touch of one on one, even though this is a online course. This class is very eye opening and interesting.

Sometimes I felt grading was differt on assignments & posts because some were more opinion than facts, so some of the grading was a little harsh in that sense. He was very helpful when asking questions though and in explaining. There's a lot of work involved and also long papers. I felt this class was pretty hard for only a level 100 class.

The class was really interesting considering I am not really into religion. There did seem to be a lot of work, but it all really helped when it came time to do the papers for each unit.

The course was somewhat challenging at times, due to the complex concepts and theories. However, Rev. James Powell provided clear, concise lecture information to clear up any clarity issues. I also found the textbooks to be helpful in understanding the concepts in this course.

The class was interesting and engaging, however quite difficult for a 100 level course. Grading was, at times, inconsistent, critical, and quite subjective. It seemed at times there were objectives we needed to obtain, but these objectives were not in the wording of the assignment. Very friendly professor however and I certainly was challenged.

Professor Powell was very good at explaining concepts, especially in a class with abstract or complex ideas. I enjoyed the class and think he did a great job organizing it.

I found the online version of this course a bit challenging. However, Dr. Powell will make time for those who contact him. He expects thought out answers and grades accordingly. He encourages differing opinions.

He is a great professor that makes his expectations well known and you can achieve and A if you follow instructions and work hard.

The professor was excellent in helping you in any area you struggle in. It is an extreme amount of work for a summer class. I felt like it was too much crammed in every three days, found myeslf memorizing and quickly erasing to memorize the next chapter(s).

Professor Powell was extremely helpful and fair throughout the semester course. He was very understanding when I was out of town and needed to adjust deadlines.

I've never had a professor give such extensive feedback. Essays that were 4 paragraphs received 4 paragraphs as a response. It was extremely helpful.

I enjoyed this class a lot. He teaches how to view thinks differently than what I was used to. As long as you get the flow of his quizzes then you'll be fine. I usually wrote the unit papers the day they were due and received A's on them. I write better when I'm pressured for time though. I wouldn't procrastinate at all in this class though!

He had wordy quiz questions, and wordy assignments. I took online REL 101 and as an introduction class he expected us to know WAY TO MUCH. He provided great feedback but overall the class was less than great.

I have been taking online courses for three and a half years now and professor Powell is one of the best professors I have ever had. He goes the extra mile for his students and truly cares about everyone. I found the video lectures extremely helpful and I also like the format of the quizzes.

Overall the subject content has merit; though as a Christian I can see and view the push back from a secular school. With that said though, the essay questions need a bit more clarity; while the quizzes were a great challenge; mentally spaking. The class did meet my expectation of learning while also solidifying my beliefs.

The course was a challenge. Lots of reading, taking quizzes, & writing short essays.Loved the CapStone Projects versus a normal final exam. The only thing I didn't like is he never seemed on top of grading or giving the video lectures. He always extended the due dates but it was still a pain because it cut into our "normal" weekly schedule.

Interesting course. Would've liked to learn more about beliefs within the religion along with all the theory and history. Very good instruction and if you put the work in a good grade is easily achievable.

This is a fantastic course! It will enhance your understanding of world religions as well as your own beliefs. Dr. Powell is very accessible if you have questions or problems with the course and the subject matter presented by him is entertaining and very informative. I very much enjoyed the views of the professor. I did not care for the format of the quizzes. I came into this class without much faith in religion and I left with a new perspective that I never thought I would have.

Dr. Powell is very helpful with course material and very reasonable with grading. The quizzes were challenging but allowed students to really learn the material. I think they would be almost impossible without the video supplements. My favorite assignments were the capstone projects. Overall, I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class.

This course was both textbook material combined with personal perception of the material. Professor Powell was very flexible and willing to help out with things that were confusing. I learned quite a bit about different religions in this class and it has changed my opinions on different religions. Glad I took the class.

James Powell is a wonderful teacher. He helps you as much as he can. I loved his class. I wish there were more online classes of his. I would definitely take more of his classes if they were online.

I enjoyed the material in this class, but felt confused over what was exactly wanted in essay assignments. I did enjoy the youtube videos and would have liked these to be available at the start of the units. I would have also liked to have future units open as I like to work ahead when I know I have a big work schedule coming up.

The professor was fair in grading and after each assignment gave valuable and well thought out feedback. As opposed to saying "good job" which I run into more often than not and it isn't very helpful. Youtube videos were extremely helpful as searching the internet for answers was extremely difficult as the information is too vast.

I liked the discussion boards and capstone projects. The quizzes were too difficult. I spent way too many hours trying to find answers and still not doing well. That was very frustrating. The one time the whole class did well, the answers were in the readings and presentations. I think it is okay, ideal for the whole class to do well.

First, I very much enjoyed the course. It wasn't necessarily what I expected as far as theology, but the added history was nice. I also enjoyed applying the interdisciplinary studies to the religion. I would have liked better direction to acceptable websites for additional information on the quizzes and discussions to be visible after closing.

The class was good. I wasn't looking forward to taking it originally, but Powell was great about giving feedback and making sure I really understood the material.

I think that this class was a great online class. Professor Powell always helped out with any questions that the students had throughout the semester. when ever there was any type of confusion, he always solved it right away. I wasn't really sold on this type of class at the begging of the semester but towards the end it got very interesting.

Files provided often related psychological ideas with religion, which is interesting. It's great that Powell was able to complete supplementary videos for viewing weekly to further cement lessons. However, testing was a sore spot for my performance even after I completed all of the learning objectives. Not sure of why there was such discrepancy.

He was an awesome teacher. Whenever I needed help with something, he responded to my emails very quickly! If you are looking for a challenging but interesting class, I suggest this one!

I really enjoyed Professor Powell's way of teaching. He actually wanted us to learn, not just do well on quizzes. Assessments are a miniscule component to the course, instead it is more about discussions and essays to show what we knew. He was very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him for a professor!

Loved this class way more than I thought I would. I was worried about being able to keep the religion "academic", but the way that it was approached, it was much easier for me to do. The only thing I think would be more helpful, would be to provide quiz answers throughout the readings and commentary. Some were VERY hard to find.

REL 101 has definately not been an easy class for me. But no one said college was supposed to be easy. You have to work hard. It's my first semester. And taking an accelerated class wasn't a very good idea on my part because of kids and work. I really have learned a lot about different religions. This class was not what I thought it was going to be, which is a good thing. Professor Powell is a great instructor. His grading rubric is straight forward and his feedback to assignments and discussions is great. He makes his online lectures fun to listen to. He's a great speaker.

Taking this as an accelerated class is difficult and much more work that I was prepared for. I did find some of the lectures a bit hard to follow in the beginning and the quizes can be difficult. Mr Powell is good instructor that makes the course enjoyable.

Great online class, he was very clear and informative, this class just did not really peak my interest but he made videos to clearly let students understand and discuss our own opinions.

I enjoyed the class, I had a hard time associating the discussion notes and the book readings and lectures. I felt like sometimes I was lost with how the 2 topics were associated. Overall good class though. I would really like to see an easier way to take notes off of the lectures. Often the background notes are essential to the quiz and it can be hard to read and take down the necessary information

I think you found an excellent way of presenting the material and testing our knowledge through discussion boards, quizzes and power point projects. This was a fast paced class due to the condensed time frame and I felt rushed to complete assignments- next time I would take in during a regular semester.

He is a very fair grader, as long as you put in the necessary work you will succeed.

I loved this professor. His lectures could get boring , so I'd get distracted which is bad because he makes questions off of specific things he said. I'd record audio, and study days before tests. It's a lot of information. You can find an older version of the text book online for free, same info. Overall, I wish I had studied more.

Mr. Powell is very approachable if you go to office hours. He offers extra credit to classes; it is good to do them. Do the assignments exactly as he asks for, or you will get graded down. For online classes go sit in one or two of his campus classes to get a better understanding of what he expects. I will take him again and enjoy doing so.

A very friendly and involved professor! My only issue at I personally find the readings somewhat challenging, and the quizzes based on them are difficult, meaning you have to have a really deep understanding of the material to do well. Seriously, read everything, possibly twice, and you'll do fine.

This course gives you an overview of not only religions but philosophical and sociological perspectives that you can use in other courses. Prof. Powell was very accessible, humorous and provided great feedback. There is quite a bit of reading, weekly papers and quizzes.
