Knows his stuff. Not an easy class but you learn.

The best teacher for biology! Sometimes quiz questions and test questions will through you off guard cause you had to be in class to learn it. Goofy guy with lots of good, cheesy explainations (what else from a guy who spent a decade studing fruitflys)
Big Daddy Jim. The greatest Biology Professor at UVSC. Test questions do throw you off sometimes, and you can't just study the study guides and expect to know it all. Do your work and go to class!!! But he's great! Great sense of humor as well!
Good teacher overall. Was probably the hardest class I have ever taken. I learned a lot though.
Incredibly kind man. Tries to be funny, even though he is not, but it is charming nontheless. Truly cares about his students. Best teacher i have ever had.
Dr. Price is an awesome teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. To succeed in his class you need to be in class everyday. He explains everything with a story to help you rememeber. He's a great guy that wants everyone to succeed if you are in class and trying.
I think it could be more of the class that the teacher, but really didn't enjoy his class. I thought that his test questions were hard. Plus his lectures talk more about hugging some stupid trees that it has to do with what's on the test.
He made me love biology.

Can't describe him without comparing him to a mule-like animal. Never tested over things he went through in class. Very rude when you ask him for help. Would suggest taking the class elsewhere if possible. Learned absolutely nothing.
He could be kind of boring, but the class discussions were awesome. He makes sure you understand how to work the problems. Tests were moderately difficult. I loved the class though!
He is so hard. The class is really dull. I can't wait for this semester to be over. I have a 4.0 GPA but after this class, it will probably go down...A LOT. Definitely wouldn't recommend him.
I have been so lost the entire class, I would recommend anyone else.
I thought he was very fun and a very good teacher. Genetics is hard and difficult to understand but you can't blame him for it. We had some great class discussions and he was very willing to answer all our questions. I really enjoyed him and would highly recommend him for Biology or Genetics.
Nice guy, boring class. If you take him, don't go to class, stay home and read your book. You'll learn more that way, besides, his test have nothing to do with what he covers in class.
This man is very BRILLIANT! So brillant that half the time I do not understand what he is saying. He tries to trick you on the tests!! However, the quizes are easy and you get to work on them with other people. This is a tuff class, but I know it can be passed, even if it is done with a C grade.
Mediocre teacher. He seems to want to try and trick you rather than teach you anything. He likes to pull things out of his hat on the test sometime . Especially the final. I must say you have to take his class though so you can see his lovely rope belt. Just tied in a knot in the front.
The class was very boring. He hated to answer questions from students. The review didn't really help at all on the test. Basically, if you want to get a good grade, read the book and do the web tutorials. Don't even go to class. It's a waste of time.
This was the hardest class i've ever taken. 4.0 student and got my first C. Just read the book. Tests were ridiculously difficult. Good luck.
not an easy course, his lectures are interesting mostly. but his tests are very specific and impossible to get an A on, unless you are a BIO major or something. I am a straight A student and i think i am strugling to get a B out of his class. so unless you are a natural at biology dont take his class. very hard, and tests are most all of his class
He is a nice guy just really hard to listen to and is a hard teacher. then again it is biology. exams and final were a killer.
He loves to listen to the sound of his own voice. Very boring class.
SO BORING. What he teaches in class is not important at all to the tests. Just read your book a lot and you'll be better off than if you go. He just confuses you.
He wasn't that helpful
Dr. Price loves to flunk people out of genetics. He takes pride in getting through a masters program and shows off to everyone how smart he is. I asked him for help at his office one day and he teased me blatantly.
Dr. Price boasts about having "two nobel prizes in his pedigree" which means he knew two groups of people that received the nobel prize. He can draw an analogy about breast milk to any principle of biology and does it in class. He looks like that painter that paints, "happy little trees". avoid him like you would any canadian- like the plague.
He's all over the place on his lectures, if you want a Biology 1010 course thats more like a 4400 course take it! Otherwise don't. He was the worst teacher ever.
Dr. Price is pretty boring, but if you read the book you can do alright on the tests. he is very concerned about helping people with their grades as long as you put forth some effort in the class. He's a nice guy.
DR. Price is a nice man, but in all honesty, I didn't like the way he taught. It seemed like he expected everyone to be at the same "nobel prize" winning level he was. I think he forgets we are the students, not co-workers. He answers individual questions well, but not well enough for others to follow along too.
Hard class. Take specific notes and study hard. I found the material interesting. Don't ask questions out of curiosity, cuz he made me feel stupid afterwards. Just study hard.
His lectures are extremely boring and most of the time not related to the subject he suppose to be teaching.
Read the book and know it inside and out and you'll do fine. Some of the questions come from his lectures, but not enough that you should torture yourself by going. He's monotone, makes interesting things boring, and his study guides aren't worth a lot to do. Just use the book and the study companion and you'll do fine.
He is an okay teacher but his tests are dumb. He olny gives five problems
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He is so boring, there is no point in going to class you just end up falling asleep anyway. Use your time doing something else. You can do pretty well on tests just by reading the book, going over his notes on line, and going over his study guide. Just don't get him.
wow i read all of these and still took the class and its bad! going to class is only importatn the day before and of the test! the studyguides are kind of helpful but really its hard and he is monotone! trust me get another teacher
This teacher was very difficult to listen to! He seemed to be bored with himself. Every test he would give you a review to fill out and it took up a lot of your time. He did not comprehend that his students have other classes that take time also. He does not care about what type of learner you are, if you don't learn like he teaches too bad.
NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU'LL REGRET IT EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE!!! Worst professor i have ever had. I was in there for several months, didn't learn one single thing. He is not only extremeley boring beyond belief, but he rambles on about pointless things that don't even have to do with the subject your trying to learn. Horrible teacher.
He is not a hard professor. This is college people! His class was one of the easiest upper division classes I've taken. He doesn't require a whole lot from the students, and his exams are pretty easy. I'm not an A student, but have done extremely well (A) in his class. Don't believe the rumors that Genetics is hard, they're false!
This class is a lot easier that people say it is, and he is a not boring like a lot of the people say he is too. The tests that he gives are really easy. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will do just fine.
This class put me to sleep EVERY class period! it sucked! He is super boring and doesn't cover the information on the tests. don't take it if you can help it!
This class is SO BORING! All he does in class is explain slide after slide of his boring slideshows. And the slideshows are posted online so just look at them at home. Plus, the study guids are posted online so you know exactly what is going to be on the test. And the tests are hard because nothing he talks about in class is aplicable to the tests.
Dr. Price is the most disrespectful teacher I have ever had. He is arrogant, doesn't care about students and is only out to satisfy himself. I will admit, his class is easy but I would never recommend him as a teacher to anyone. I also have a hard time respecting someone that rolls around in the dirt before coming to class, his hygiene is terrible.
This class was pretty much slide show after slide show. The only reason I went every time honestly was because of my friend, and we doodled the entire time so we wouldn't fall asleep. I did well because I read the book. If you read the book and do the quizzes after the chapters you will do fine. This class really wasn't hard, just boring.
Pretty easy, just really boring sometimes hard to follow in class because its hard to not fall asleep. He's pretty helpful though and if you're confused he'll go through it again to try and help you. Get three chances on a quiz and with a good excuse he'll let you do it more. really not bad
Class isnt that hard if you do your homework assignments (there arent that many) and come to class.
I loved biology prior to this class, BUT he is one of if not my least favorite professors. I don't mind some hard work if the teacher is kind and a good teacher, however he is monotone and goes from slide to slide and never actually teaches students ANYTHING
He doesn't teach anything, just read the textbook and do the study guides. He has a very monotone voice that makes it nearly impossible to listen in class.
Price is useless! The class isn't hard, but he is sooo hard to listen to. And he likes to spend class time flirting with the girl students and making everybody uncomfortable. Take the class from Faribanks.
Do yourself a favor, TAKE FAIRBANKS, NOT PRICE!! I was told if you have nothing nice to say someone, don't say it. Within that in mind, I end my comments. I am thankful at least UVU students now have an option when they take genetics.
I also took both Price and Fairbanks, and trust me Fairbanks is a zillion times better. Even if you have to wait for a summer term take Fairbanks. Price yelled at us and called us cheaters. Fairbanks lets you use your laptop for chi-square problems, and will actually help you during the test. Price is just a painful teacher to listen to.
I can't believe all the negative feedback for price. He is well organized and goes out of his way to offer practice problems from multiple sources (which is what he puts on the exam almost word for word). I loved this class. Go to class and just listen. Then do the practice problems and read the book if you don't get it. Excellent professor!
I didn't like Jim's class at all. It sucked! Don't take this class from him he has got to be the worst professor at this school!
Price is a great professor. He'll go out of his way to help students do well and understand the material if they take the time to ask for help.
Horrible teacher. He is always complaining about questions that students asks. I would avoid him if at all possible.
Before, during, and after attending his class almost everyone I meet has dislicked professor Price or the way he teaches. He seems to ask questions too quickly as though it is simple and you should get it, this often leaves people feeling stupid, he also gets extremely emoutional and angry if you ever ask for the class to be easier. could be better
Price is not as bad as everyone says. If you pay attention, do the problem sets and practice problems you will do fine. My only complaint is he expects you to be able to do the test problems as fast as he can, which means in-class tests can be very frustrating, having more time in the testing center would have been nice.
Dr. Price is rude to students, disorganized, and hard to listen to. Analogies he provides in class are useless. He blames the students when the test averages are low. Tests are given in class, but you can't always finish in the hour.
Terrible teacher. I wish that he gave more example in class. He is very rude to students. I also hated taking the test in class. You only have 50 min to finish. which is not enough time.
Hes not the most tactful person. When you ask questions in class he often seems angry that you need to ask a question, which just makes you not ask any questions. Test and homework are not too hard so long as you put the time in just like any other class.
Horrible teacher. Ive taken ochem, anatomy, biochem, physics, and this class was harder than all of them because Dr. Price made it hard. You have no time to take the tests. He is very disorganized, does not provide timely feedback, boring, difficult, etc. Ive taken 120 credits, mostly in the sciences and he is the worst teacher I have ever taken.
If you attend class, do all the problems he does in class and the recommended problems he gives you, this class is NOT bad at all. Yes taking the test for 50 minutes is harder but if you can do the practice problems its doable. Price was always willing to meet and help me with whatever issues I had. He is very knowledgeable about the subject.
I took this class twice, the first time receiving a C-. The second time, I actually put in the effort and came to appreciate how knowledgeable and helpful he really is. If you do the problem sets and practice problems (to which he provides free links on canvas) you will do well. Very generous and friendly if you are respectful and responsible.
Not recommended to take this class from him during the summer. It is basically a 4-hour lecture from Dr. Price who does not have the most exciting lectures ever...
I would consider myself very competent in Biology and especially Genetics and in no way did this class portray that. He is a Genius and also the absolute worst teacher I have had in the three years I have been at this university. There is no way to prepare for the tests unless you are inside his brian.
He is very smart and knows his stuff, but he isn't a great educator. The test are hard and it seems like there is always one question that you have never seen before. I wish there was another professor that taught the course.
Dr Price is a very nice teacher who genuinely cares about his students. He grades fairly, and there are only 7 assignments and 3 exams in the semester. However, he is likely to get frustrated with the class if they don't participate in the lectures. He wants feedback about whether you understand, and the concepts are hard, so make sure you ask q's!
i would not recommend price to anyone who wants to enjoy genetics. Expect to learn more from his TA. IF you ask questions, we takes offense to anything even if its not directed towards him. only three tests and all of which don't really reflect what you know. The class is set up terribly and it all depends of his mood when he grades you.. good luck
I'm only at UVU for the summer so I don't know how easy the classes are supposed to be but it seemed normal for university level. I think despite being a university now, UVU will still accept anybody, prepared for real classes or not, probably why all the negative reviews. I didn't do that well in the class from health issues but Price was fair.
As a student you should not be afraid to ask questions. Jim price is very rude and loves to belittle students whenever he can. Terrible teacher.
Here's the rundown: he'll assign super cryptic and long papers you are supposed to solve on your own using very advanced programs that he never taught you to use in class. He will then get upset that people don't understand what they're supposed to do. And he will complain about millennials, a lot.
Jim Price is at the point in his career where he's simply riding the tenure train, moaning and complaining about millennials having it "too easy". He will not help you, he will not even go out of his way to Teach if he's not in the mood. Grades things weeks after they are due, doesnt provide feedback, except for openly mocking students. Avoid him.
Doesnt even try to hide the fact he prefers his female students, so much so hell flirt them. I was uncomfortable multiple times. Other times it was like he didnt want to be there, or that hes constantly disappointed in us just because were trying to learn from him, the teacher. Dont bother with questions unless you want to be made fun of.
Price was not a good professor. Unfortunately he is the only professor who teaches the genetics lab. A lot of the material wasn't clear and when I asked him questions he would try to make me sound dumb without actually understanding what I was asking. He complained about millennials and how we wanted didn't want to work hard but expected As.
I was confused throughout the whole semester. I've never used the software before and haven't done anything related to it, yet he started off as if we were supposed to know. he did ask us how to improve stuff... I have to say he was great during the pandemic and I managed to finish my project. still confused tho
Great professor, loves what he teaches, wants the best for his students, and wants them to succeed. Do the homework, take notes and you'll do good
This course was very challenging and I don't remember one thing I've learned in it. There were so many moments where he was very rude to my classmates and said he didn't know answers to questions. That was concerning considering that this was biology 1010.
Awful. He just hates students except for the occasional eye candy if you know what I mean. He'll go out of his way to make things more difficult than they have to be as part of some delusion of grandeur that because it was hard for him, it should be hard for you. Dont bother with questions either, he'll just roast you.
He brings politics into his lectures. Never really seemed to get to the point, always going off on unnecessary tangents.
I had a great experience with Price. Listen to the lectures, take notes and study and you'll do well. Biol1010 can be difficult for many, but I felt that Price wanted his students to succeed. He was willing to give me feedback when I didn't do as well on certain assignment.
I LOVED Dr. Price. He is intelligent and respectful, and you can tell that he is really passionate about what he is teaching. He invites questions and is nice about the silly ones and tries to give good answers. We once spent an entire class period talking about if Jurassic park is possible. I highly recommend this professor and the genetics class.
Dr. Price is extremely unorganized, and students suffer from it. The entire semester is spend working on 1 project to annotate a gene, and he only spends 1 day going over the programs you need to know for the project. He is not very accessible outside of class, but he will help you once he responds.
Dr. Price is clearly enjoys science, but is very much not too interested in teaching. The genetics lab has interesting aspects such as examining fruit fly phenotypes. The rest of it is attempting to struggle through very poorly explained software with lackluster direction. Its an easy grade, but extremely tedious lacking in significance.
Dr. Price is difficult to work with. His class is very boring, and most of the time he doesn't even teach anything. The final project worth most of your grade is difficult to do because he explains the bare basics of it, then gets upset when you reach out to him for help. If you do get help from him, its basic and not actually that helpful.
I was skeptical to take Dr. Price for Genetics and Genetics Lab. However, it was a great experience. He is super caring, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he teaches. If you go to lectures you will excel in his class. The homework is online and not hard, the tests are tricky but have lots of time to take and open-note. Go to class to excel!
Professor Price was awesome! His material was difficult but he was very understanding and helpful when his students needed it. He did not have a textbook, which made the more difficult topics hard to understand outside of class since you kind of had to teach yourself, but Price was always willing to spend time helping if the need was expressed.
I was confused for most of the semester, but I felt like I didn't learn anything and had to get help from other students most of the time. You can pass the class, but it'll be hard unless you aren't listening or getting help from other students that know what they're doing.
Do not take this class from James Price. After you do the homework and group assignments, you feel like you will know the material. You are wrong. The exams have nothing to do with what is on the assignments. While the exams are open note, your notes will not help. he goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with what you need to know. Stay Away
