Very clear. Pretty easy class, if you don't mind taking some notes. Finals are easy, just a speech over anything in Texas History. I recommend him to anyone!

He's such an awesome guy! I had his class my first semester here, it was his first semester also, and he taught like he had been teaching for long time. You just have to speak up in discussions and do papers. I loved his class, and that's 'cause I hated history before. He make history fun to learn.

Lets just say, i hate waking up at 7 in the morning, and i have an 8 oclock class with him.. simply because it was with him. This teacher is awesome, it is well worth the early wakeup call, wouldnt go with any other professor for history! AWESOME

This teacher is funny and makes the class interesting. He just loves History and talks about the history channel which he refers to as the Hitler channel. Very cool. No tests. You can go to him for recommendations too.

I hate history, BUT I loved this class. Mr. Puente is the best. He wants you to get something out of this class, not just cram crap down your throat like other instructors do. Not to mention his great looks, WOW! Prepare for a few quizzes, about 6-two page response papers, and a 5 min presentation. Thats it! Take this class, you'll enjoy it.

He is the funniest teacher I have had at vista. I took it for 1301 and now 1302. He is so easy. You write a couple of papers and read and thats it. Easy work just keep up with it. Its an easy A.

From years of experience, I can say that James is the best instructor I've ever had in any setting. This man lives for class participation and you can tell by observing him that he LOVES what he does. Do your reading and writing and participate in the class. If you're taking history with someone else, you're not doing it right.

I can't begin to say how happy I am to have taken his class! Its the right combination of ease, interest, and learning. He promotes critical thinking, thinking for yourself and discovering historical truth. The only complaint is the end of semester presentation but I think that's just an NVC requirement. At least there were no group projects!

Puente is the bomb. He defiantly found a medium between being laid back and giving you what you paid for. You learn alot, there is alot of collaboration all throughout class. He tells it how it is when it comes to history, not like others that stick to the books guide lines. If you hate history Mr. Puente will make you love it.

I have taken Mr.Puente for all of my required history classes and a couple just for fun. He makes learning about the past intriguing and a lot of fun. Keep up with the assignments, they are not difficult. Show up to class and you will walk away feeling like you have actually gained something. Puente is a great professor. Review questions after chapters however not too many questions. Really funny & laid back. Reading and assignments can still be turned in after due date, but dont take for granted or wait until last minute or you will fail. Do not take his kindness or laid bavk style for weakness, he will fail u if dont do wk. Cool guy.

Professor Puente was awesome, his passion for History shows during his lectures. There is never a dull moment in his class. He is opened to anyone's comments, always says that no question is a dumb question. You'll pass the class as long as you do the assignments (which are not difficult) and as long as you show up to class.

Mr. Puente made my life so much easier this semester! I had 3 other classes that were very tough but this professor is very understanding and his students mean the world to him. The BEST @NVC! Took Hist I&II. 7 Reading Writing Assignments & 3 Response Papers out of the entire semester all on Canvas (some come from the book) EASY! He is very lenient and cares about his students if they are going through a ruff time so you are able to turn in assignments late if you need to. He talks the entire class & movies are shown too.

Mr. Puente should be all 5's. If you don't pass this class you lack basic skills of life. He gives ample time to finish assignments, makes class fun, and brings a unique perspective everyday. Professor Puente cares a lot about his students. He will let you know from day one. He makes history fun, every class we are laughing. He has an upbeat personality and you never know what he is going to say next. He relates everything in history to things that are happening today. There isn't a lot of homework, and the final is a presentation.

I really enjoy this guy's class. He is very enthusiastic about history and brings insight to all sides of history that I would otherwise not thought about. Easiest class ever, take him! Hilarious professor who genuinely cares for the students. With the way he lectures you'll definitely end up learning at least something through out the course. Over the semester he only assigns around five mini assignments & final is a presentation. There is no way to fail this class or earn anything less than a B!

Great professor and amazing lectures. I had him at 8am and was always kept intrigued and awake for them all. The only issue I had was with so little assignments he gave the class you won't know your grade until literally the last week of the semester. But hey, attend class, participate, do assignments on time and you'll receive an A plus.

Great professor and person, but do not select if you are a history major. A lot of the stuff we discussed were talked about briefly before we moved on. Mr. Puente is the best Prof I have ever had! Would take his class again just for fun If I had the time. We always had great meaningful discussions in class. Took him for 8:00 AM and he was the perfect teacher for that, he always brought tons of energy to class and made it a fun class. Very few assignments and he gives you more then enough time.

Mr Puente is the type of teacher you want to see on a daily. He makes good points about history and I don't ever want to miss his class. He speaks loud enough to hear and is upfront with hw assignments. They are interesting and not difficult. Keep up or you will fall behind. He has an awesome attitude and loves to be here. Mr. Puente is a great teacher. He is one of those profs you can tell he wants to be there. He cares for his students and understands we have lives too. His lectures are great and foster a healthy conversation. My favorite class so far in 3 semesters. He doesn't take things too seriously so it is a relaxing environment.

I took him as a 8AM summer course and he was so sweet, helpful and understanding. It was a super chill classroom(he always wore basketball shorts and t shirts.) We didnt have a heavy course load, only one presentation (he was very flexible with how my presentation subject). It was really all lecture but he made it interesting and funny!

Hes a super easy 100. He wants to u to really learn about history, and seems to prioritize that instead of quizzes or reading assignments. He kinda gets off topic, and some people get annoyed about it in my class. Personally I like it. Stay off topic lol.

He lectures all class and all you have to do is listen. He doesn't grade right away also lets you turn in work whenever you have it. Super understanding, really nice and makes learning fun.

BEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER. He is so funny we were literally always laughing at him and with him. He focuses more on current news and "real" history. Would def take him again.

Puente is an amazing professor. He will have the whole class laughing and generally cares about his students. He is always there to talk if you need it. Isn't a tough grader so all assignments including papers are easy. Understands that life happens so just talk to him and he will give you an extension. Great person and you'll enjoy the class.

I took Professor Puente for HIST 1301 and 1302 that just comes to show you how AWESOME the class was!!! I would definitely recommend taking his class. If you dont know much of history dont worry professor Puente will make it fun and easy to understand.

Mr. Puente is awesome, very nice and understanding. He makes the lecture fun. Not alot of homework. Easy final. He had us do a presentation about anything that interest us for our final. This is an easy class. A few essays but not hard.

Very nice and very cool to be around. Glad to be taught by somebody who is just as, and most likely more, enthusiastic about and interested in History as I am. Take his class if you wanna have a fun time hearing and learning stories of the past and also if you have a passion or just a curiosity for US history.

Very excellent professors understands when things come up doesnt criticize his students. Very clear on his assignments is available during office hours cares alot about his students. Very easy to talk to. Doesn't take off for attendance, do your work and you will pass. Love how he lectures and relates it to everyday life. Take his class.

Honestly I don't know if I have ever enjoyed a class as much as Professors Puente's. Attendance was not mandatory but I enjoyed this class so much that I never wanted to miss a day. Very caring and really funny. No tests, but writing assignments and final presentation/project. If you need a History I'm telling you he is the #1 choice, easy A.

I've always hated history but Mr. Puente makes it enjoyable. Only about 4 assignments, 1 presentation, super easy grader. He genuinely cares about you and makes you feel comfortable. He makes a lot of jokes and stuff so if you're easily offended, this isn't your teacher. Overall he's one of the greatest teachers at NVC in my opinion.

Mr. Puente was amazing. Very lecture heavy, but he makes it fun! Be respectful, participate, and turn your work in. Very big on what YOU think. Frame of Reference is very important to him. While there is quite a lot of work, hes very lenient on turning it in.

Take his class. Honestly, do it. Mr Puente covers the material in a way that makes it feel less like you're being lectured and more like you're having a conversation. He will tell you the gritty parts of history that is often left out. The whole experience just felt very honest and engaging. It was the best history class I've taken. Late work is ok

I was out of town for 3 classes in a row and he completely understood and it didn't affect my grade at all. Super easy class! Take him FOR SURE

Few homework assignments and one personal presentation for final.

Professor Puente is a very funny & caring person. His class is very easy and you don't even really need to take notes at all to pass. There are no exams, only papers that are relatively easy to get a good grade on. However, he does take a very long time to put in the grades. He also doesn't generally respond to emails and is a bit disorganized.

I took his online class through zoom. He is lecture heavy but does try to make it relevant and fun. Easy class if you even do the bare minimum.

Pretty easy class. Just a few papers and finals questions. He is one of the more enjoyable professor's I have had. Engaging with the class. Grades do come in slow, but you can redo assignments if you do bad. He gets side tracked often, but as boring as history is I needed it to keep my attention. Do the required work and no doubt an A.

Puente is by far the best professor Ive had throughout my years at Vista. He cares a lot about his students and he is very understanding. He wants you to understand the information hes teaching rather than just give a ton of work. If you have any problems do not hesitate to let him know he will give leeway. I wish I had more professors like him.

James is honestly one of the best professors i have had. He is very caring and helpful. his lectures are easy to understand and light. he gives only a few assignments the whole semester. very understanding and easy to access outside class.

You can tell he cares about what he is teaching and really wants you to have the most accurate understanding of history. There are few papers to write but they are short. He is a really nice guy and I would take him again if given the chance.

Unless you actually care about some history then he may not be for you. But if youre taking this class as an elective basically, like myself, then hes your dream professor. Really cool, funny, and a down to earth guy. You can really just sit through the lectures, throw together 3 essays that are very spaced out, and youve got an A. Respectfully.

Ok, being honest here, he is the best teacher I have ever had period. He came to class with so much enthusiasm and you could tell he really really cared about what he was teaching and the success of his students. Made sure to sign up for HIST 1302 in the Fall.

Prof. Puente has to be one of the best at NVC. He constantly shows up ready to go. He is so hilarious and kind. He might not be your slice of cake if you are not into history. He is a major history buff and loves to ramble on about the topics. He assigned about 3-4 papers including your final. He does not sugar coat though he is straightforward.

Less assignment but for sure you will learn a lot from his lecture, if you do an assignment wrong he'll redo the assignment all over again without any points deducted. All you have to do is show up to class and participate in his lecture, no you won't fall asleep he has so much energy, makes learning fun. NO EXAM or Quizzes

this professor is a great history teacher, the lectures are not just boring "read off the textbook" he puts in actual thought and real perspective into what american history is, no exams no need to take notes just be engaging in the class and it wont be bad at all

Please take Professor Puente's class, it's so worth it and really teaches you history. No quizzes or exams and only has 3 essays which aren't even hard! As long as you focus and turn in everything, you'll be fine. Definitely taking him for my HIST 1302 Class.

He was hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. His grading criteria is very easy to understand and very straight forward. He is always trying his best to help students receive the best possible grade that they can and actually makes class interesting. Especially for me, someone who usually doesn't care for history. He is the best.

It would take effort to fail the class. The total number of grades you receive through the entire class can be counted on your fingers. He can go off topic a few times but it's no different than any other teacher who does as well. Attendance will be the hardest thing you'll do. Occasional participation required but only rarely.

Only have to do papers, basically you just answer 10 question. You are able redo assignment. super easy in this class in total there is 5 assignment the whole semester. Easy work and only a handful of assignments. Professor is very laid back and makes it very easy to be successful. Not a hard grader, and is quite easy to work with on due dates and whatnot. No breakout rooms or group projects, you usually just log into Zoom and engage with his lectures, which I enjoyed due to his energy and easygoing personality.

Professor Puente makes this class a breeze. His lectures are entertaining and engaging, even over Zoom. Assignments are straightforward - just do the reading and you're set. unstuck study AI also helped me stay on top of the material. Overall, an easy yet rewarding class.
