very enthusiastic about chemistry, overall great teacher
Dr. Reeves is a new age Einstien. Loves to teach, still in love with Chem.
def. a weed-out class, its not easy unless you already know a lot about chem. don't take if you can get around it. he does look like einstein tho.
Very cute little man, knows what he's talking about, tests are probably right where they should be, but still means you gotta study.
he is very quick in class so u have to keep up and pay attention and take notes, if u miss a class, u wont do well, the curve is good. He is very clear and study sheet is helpful

He is hard! The classroom is usually very large so it is hard to ask a question. Don't take it if you can get out of it. He makes things harder than they have to be. I recomend him taking a class on how to teach students who aren't already PhD's in chem!
He is a very very hard professor. I have no desire to take chem.ever again. He is unclear when teaching his material. You MUST MUST do alot of learning on your own. He really needs to relay this info better to the studnets. ITS HARD REAL HARD
He lectures with powerpoint which is on the web so its easy to miss class and then just read and study cause you have to teach yourself anyway. He knows what hes talking about but he doesnt teach it very well.
I liked him. Made a tough class not as painful as it could have been. Reeves=hippie Einstein. he obviously loves what he does though. Very energetic even at 8 am. Nice guy.
I hated chemistry before this class and now a hate it even more....Take Tyrell! He is addicted to powerpoint,it put me to sleep.
Very hard, notes are hard to understand and doesn't give many examples
This is a very hard class! I loved chemistry in high school but then took it under him and now I hate it! I would not recommend this class for anyone!
I hated this class! He's so hard to follow..and the powerpoint is painfully boring. Dont miss class if you want to pass. Take Tyrell!!!
Very hard class. Very boring and hard to follow. He talks way too much about things he can talk about in a sentence or two. He goes into a lot of detail though which is sometimes good. I would not want to have him for a professor again anytime soon.
boring class. the funny part is he looks like albert einstein. i got a c in there...
Most people just bag on this guy because chemistry is a hard subject for them to understand, but there is not much a professor can do to make you understand a topic besides present the information in a clear and simple way, which he does. He's not bad.
I think he knows chemistry almost too well. He cant really come down on youre level but if you ask him a question he will try to bring it down a little. I think that he is really funny and he looks just like Albert Enstine. Tests are really hard though.
don't take chemisty unless you have too, this class is not fun and the tests are hard
This guy knows a lot about chemistry. The subject in general is hard, reeves does explain it, but if you don't understand the way he explains it you're in trouble.
Reeves is a good teacher, but chemistry is VERY hard. He does a good job explaining, but the subject matter is difficult and tests are hard as well. He is willing to give you extra help if you need it, but if you don't need this class for your major, don't take it.
Overall a pretty good teacher. Lectures are often boring but if you choose to listen, you will find he explains the material well. Tests are not bad at all.
Easy A...just prepare for the 3 exams and study the final material for the exam and the rest falls into place...Dr Reeves is a great teacher...extremely clear and the overhead lectures work great.
So yeah, this prof. was clear for me, but i know that for some others, he made very little sense. his tests were on the lower end of fair as far as material covered goes. and the whole policy where the last quarter of the final = half the exam grade sucks.
HARD CLASS!!! He knows so much about chemisty but cant teach it very well. He means well but he doesnt answer question or explain concepts well. Tests are harder than crap. Nice man but bad teacher.
Not the greatest teacher in the world, but definietly knows just about everything when it comes to Chemistry. Very willing to help students outside of class. Powerpoints are overwhelming and sometimes didn't make sense. Take this class for a challenge.
Awesome teacher. Loves what he is doing and is SO NICE. He is one of the best professors I have ever had
Dr. Reeves is a very smart man, but he lacks teaching skills. He seems to know his stuff, but cannot relay the information to his class. Also very intimidating and hard to approach. Avoid him if you can!!!
Yea he knows his chemistry, but forgets that he's teaching beginners sometimes! I suggest that if you don't get it, go to the help sessions, they dumb it down for you! But overall, a pretty good teacher!
he's not a great lecturer.
He is not a very good teacher. He knows a lot about Chemistry but, he dosen't relay it very well.
He really knows his chemistry! Sometimes he forgets that students don't know as much as him. Overall he is a great professor. May be intimidating at first..but once approached he is super nice and willing to help. Need to study alot for this class
He is a nice guy.He really knows his chemistry but you need to study the old practice tests in order to do well in the class. His powerpoints are helpful also with all his math examples.
I think he is a nice guy and you can always ask him questions after class and he gives review sessions. The material is not easy but if you study and do the old practice exams you'll do well. The power points are also great so you don't have to just read the book.
okay professor. i liked him but i know a lot of people didnt. he's a nice guy and likes it when you ask questions. he knows A LOT about chemistry, but i think sometimes he forgets that we dont know much at all. i barely opened the book, just went to class and studied his power points and the practice tests.
He does know his Chemistry, yet doesnt explain it well to students. Just reads off the power point slides. Also he acts like it is bothering him to answer a question.
He really isn't that bad. You just HAVE to study and pay attention. I freaked out on the first test and made a C but the next one I made an A. Reeves is hard to understand and seems intimidating but he is a nice guy that knows his stuff. He WILL HELP. But this is a hard class. Lab with Greg is the one to take too.
He knows his chemistry very well but can't teach it at all. His terminology is ridiculous, and he simply reads off the powerpoints instead of giving actual instruction.
This guy loves to play STUMP THE STUDENT! Just because it makes sense to him doesn't mean it makes any to us. Why can't he just introduce the subject without failing half the class.
He is possible the smartest man on the campus. Oh and by the way last time I had him he looked like a mini einstein. A struggle, but nothing too bad, just had to keep ontop of the work. Makes it seem harder than it all really is, just learn how to work his system and the class. Not your easy A class though.
Very smart man. He is intimidating but is very helpful. In class he tends to talk in circles and not really make sense sometimes. However if you go to the SI sessions and study with the old tests you will do fine.
He talks to you like you have a Ph.D. in Chemistry...or you should. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS!!! (not the classes) I didnt learn nearly anything in class because he talks to you like your a genius (like him). He is very willing to help explain things to you-but im sure he will not explain them so you can understand. Textbook use low but helpful 2 learn
It was a difficult class. If you pay attention in class you should do alright. He's not the best teacher in the department but he's alright. Jones substituted for a few days when Reeves went out of town and he was pretty helpful.
hes a genius. looks like albert einstein. very nice. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS, i sat up in the front which helped a lot. he gives trick questions on the tests so watch the details. SI sessions and labs were very helpful. curves tests according to the class average. he says the funniest things sometimes. he made me laugh alot.
Dr. Reeves is hilarious. He looks just like Einstein and he is mostly interesting. His tests are really hard but he curves them according to how everyone else does. He is pretty much a genius which makes it hard to understand him sometimes, but overall he is likeable.
Wonderful, wonderful professor. He is extremely clear when it comes to his lectures, and what will be on the tests and quizzes. Definitely recommend attending the lectures; he is very easy to understand, and is more than willing to answer questions. The tests and quizzes are ridiculously hard, but he curves them. And yes, he looks like Einstein!
Reeves was a really good teacher, and explained things well. He will joke around sometimes which makes class easier. Quizzes are usually really hard, so study what he tells you to.
The class was not to hard to comprehend, but when i t came to the tests i feel he didn't prepare the class as best as he could. He is funny and jokes around, but does not teach in an interesting manner. I would not take his class again.
Awesome professor, who knows his stuff. He will clarify anything for you, all you have to do is ask. His class is not easy but his students tend to do just as good if not better than other classes. He grades fairly. I recommend this if you're willing to spend time studying and coming to class. Otherwise you'll waste your time... not for slackers.
What an AWESOME man! Okay, he looks likes Albert Einstein and mumbles to himself a lot, but he's very easy to understand, and is exceedingly knowledgable about the subject he teaches. If you are interested in learning, you will understand - if you get on facebook every class and you fail, it's your own damn fault.
please, if u are not intertested in chemistry do NOT take this class.... i am a junior and i had to take this as a prereq and i hate it.... he is extremely knowledgeable, and possibly the smartest man i have ever heard lecture, but his tests are rediculous and the amount of work given is a ton... take this class with caution!
please, if u are not interested in chemistry do NOT take this class.... i am a junior and i had to take this as a prereq and i hate it.... he is extremely knowledgeable, and possibly the smartest man i have ever heard lecture, but his tests are ridiculous and the amount of work given is absurd... take this class with caution!
This teacher has a ridiculously annoying voice. He is pretty easy to understand and pay attention to. The tests and quizzes are VERY tricky and hard! However, they are curved! Only take him if you have to, If you can find another teacher... do that!
He is a great professor. His notes are great and his study guides are very helpful and are just like the exam. Put work into the class and you'll get great results.
I absolutely HATE chemistry but loved this class!! Dr. Reeves is probably the smartest man you will ever meet in your life, and i definately recommend his class! WARNING: This is not a class for slackers! tests are hard and actually require you to pay attention in class. OVERALL: VERY GOOD PROFESSOR =)
Dr. Reeves is so intelligent that everything he says has a tendency of going over your head. As far as entertainment goes, he delivers. He's funny and keeps class interesting. But I didn't go to be entertained. Tests were ridiculous, and I studied hours for each. The textbook was useless for me, but taking notes and doing homework help.
Excellent teacher and excellent chemistry program! A hugh amount of curving but you really learn a lot if you put in the effort. Do the mastering chemistry problems because they are way harder than the class. Reeves explains everthing perfectly and then shows examples so it's easier to follow. Get Reeves if you can!
I was reading these comments about him, first off, he doesn't make the tests, he sits in a room with the other teachers and they all contribute the questions. he is a really great guy. sit in the front of the class, take notes, listen. he is super funny and has such a dry sense of humor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am a Nursing major and had to withdrawal from this class. Impossible. Just, impossible. This class is Hell on Earth. If you take this class, this will be your life for the entire semester. Have fun.
Great chemistry teacher! Although his methods on some problems were different than what I have learned before, he still explained pretty well. His tests aren't that bad as long as you study for them. He is super helpful if you ask. Stupid me misread the exam schedule and missed the final, but he let me take it with another class. Totally aweso
He is a nasty little man. Average teaching abilities, nothing great. There are some really cool chemistry teachers so find someone else.
Do not take this class...In order to struggle to get a B- I had to go to the other CHM101 professors web sites and use their study guides. His contained no real information. He is a very smart guy but his explanations are brief and unclear. I would not recommend Dr Reeves.
If you sit in the front of class, and try to make the class positive, it's not so bad. The tests are ridiculously hard, but there are generous curves. He also gives helpful study guides. If you're taking chem, try to get another teacher.
I actually liked this class. I took AP chem in high school so the information was easier for me to learn. He really helps you learn the material, even if he does go a bit fast. Tests are hard, but there's only 3 with a curve and there's grade replacement on the final. Homework definitely helps learn the stuff so do it!
Dr. Reeves is very insightful about chemistry. Anytime that I needed help, he gave me excellent ways to solve my problems. Also, all of the chem profe's make the exam, and they all teach the exact same material. If you can, I strongly suggest taking his class.
Dr. Reeves is a very adorable man who you can tell is super excited about what he does. Unfortunately, I think it's more of the subject that's difficult and not his teaching skills. Go to every class and do your homework yourself and you should be fine. I unfortunately did not and got a C.
This course material is hard. You must go to class, do homework and study in order to get a decent grade. The tests are hard but is just the nature of the material. Don't take this class if you aren't going to spend the time to study. Dr Reeves DOES NOT answer emails which is extremely frustrating.
Dr. Reeves is not the best chem 101 professor. He is very knowledgeable, but the way he explains the material is not easy to understand. To do well in this call you must do your homework, and go to SI. This class is extremely time consuming and difficult.
The class seems hard at first, but Dr. Reeves really does explain everything so that it makes sense. I wouldn't have been able to do so well in the class without going to the lectures. A lot of online homework though.
He is awful at explaining things in class, and the PowerPoints he uses don't make much sense. I would not take him. At all.
Record the lectures so you can play them back later. It may not make sense at first because the material can be complex, but hearing them over sure helps. And go to SI. Seriously. The textbook was a waste of time. Don't bother. Just do the homework online.
A lot of work to get a good grade. The quizzes are almost impossible to get an A on. Go to SI and you will do fine.
Dr. Reeve's is a brilliant man, but people who are not chem-savy will have a very hard time understanding the point he's getting to. The practice tests given are pointless (never same material on exams), he is impossible to reach outside of class, and is not a very good teacher. Great personality, bad teaching skills. Flies through the material.
Not a good professor. Bad at explaining concepts and doesn't give feedback. Take anyone but him. Smart man, but can't teach people. Powerpoints are no use in his class.
Dr. Reeves is a very busy man considering he is the head of the Chemistry department. With that being said, he s never available outside of class and explains the chemistry concepts in a way that can be very difficult to understand. I often found myself learning better from the SI sessions.
His lectures can get very confusing. Print out the powerpoint or have it up on your computer, be ready to fill in info though. The 3 exams were hard. Reading the textbook will definitely be helpful. Try in lab, it'll help your grade. Grade replacement on the final will save your grade though, that's how I got an A in the class.
Hated this class. Reeves made it too hard and has no compassion to struggling students who tried and at least made an effort to pass. I don't want to be a Chemist, I just want to get by. Don't take this class if you are not a Chemistry major.
I was sincerely afraid of chemistry before taking dr. reeves. In high school I had really terrible chemistry teacher. I now have an A in the class. Dr. Reeves makes every word count: he is very, very clear and concise in teaching, but you don't want to miss a word. Take good notes in class you will be fine. Need help? STUDY and THEN seek him.
Dr. Reeves is a great professor. I really like chemistry. Reading the textbook might seem confusing but he definitely makes everything really clear during class. I definitely suggest going to class, especially if you're unsure. He's the head of the department so he knows what he's talking about.
Dr. Reeves is a great man, however, not so much a professor. He does not break concepts down for an average student to understand. Quizes are 3 questions and Dr. Reeves refuses to drop any regardless of how many people get it right. 3/100 students got a quiz question right and he kept it. Tests are hard. Good luck with Reeves.
Sitting in this class I felt as if this is one of those professors that just rapid fires into the darkness and expects you to see the "obvious". I recommend looking up the easy way on youtube, which is how I finally passed a test(ie the final) & did well. Also, realize that you can count up the valence electrons on the periodic table. Take that!
Reeves teaches the class as if you already know chemistry, which made things quite difficult. Math has never been my strong suit, and he just jumped straight into the numbers without any sort of explanation. His teaching style was definitely not for me.
Dr. Reeves was one of the hardest professors that I have had. He goes through powerpoints fast and assumes that everyone knows he what he is talking about. There are lots of homework assignments. Gives online timed quizzes. He does offer help though. I definitely recommend going to the SI sessions for his class!
Reeves is a nice guy and an OK professor. However, he makes Chem so much more confusing than it has to be. Sometimes he'll go on rants about how we're destroying our planet. It's quite entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go you might as well fail.
Easy class if you're good at chem. But Reeves doesn't make it that much easier. This is the third year that I've taken chem and he made me more confused that I was before. The attendance isn't mandatory but you basically have to go or you're gonna fail.
The material is difficult at first, but when he says, "you are expected to know these for the test." Take his word for it, study your polyatomics, solubility rules, diatomics, and anything else he might suggest. Also have a good understanding in algebra, this course is math intensive. Ask questions, he will try to help. He's a passionate teacher
He teaches like you already know what he talking about which doesn't really teach anything at all. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go you will miss a lot and he gives 100 participation grades for attendance. The test are really hard because even if you study your butt off because the questions are so different from what you learn.
I can definitely say that I will never take a class with this professor again. Sadly, I learned the hard way that he is an awful professor. Majority of the time I found me teaching myself. However, even though I studied a ton this did not help me on my tests at all since the majority of the questions are super difficult and were not explained well.
Very lecture heavy, but does not teach the class very well. Reeves skips over a lot of information, because he assumes the class knows how to do certain concepts.
Reeves makes chemistry more confusing than it needs to be. I taught myself most everything using the book, so I learned a lot but not really from him. Other than participation points, his lectures are no help. It is important to do well on the quizzes. Overall a very smart man who knows his stuff, but this class was no joke. GO TO SI.
This class was intense no doubt, but Reeves is a very nice man who really does care about his students. He wants you to understand the material and to do well, he just does not understand that we do not all already know all of this stuff. Read the book and PRACTICE and an A is possible!!!!
Reeves is a great man and professor. Just pay attention in class and you are sure to learn a lot. Best chemistry professor I've had. I failed chem 101 the semester before due to not understanding the material at all. Reeves has cleared everything up and I have never felt more secure about the material.
Reeves is a very smart man, and expects a lot of his students. His class was difficult but if you need a thorough understanding of Chemistry, then this class will do just that. I had to teach myself most of the material but I came out with a well deserved A.
The class was just so difficult. He barely explains anything that he does, making it hard to understand where he is getting the answers from. I'd definitely stay clear of Reeves. He makes the test questions so tricky, and makes it seem like he cares more about tricking the student than teaching the student like a professor is supposed to do.
Reeves is a good 101 professor if you've already taken chemistry at some point during high school. If not, you would be better off with someone else. He tends to go more in depth with problems rather than pointing out simple facts. Textbook isn't needed but all of his homework is online which you need an access code for.
Reeves is a very very smart guy, too smart at times. It makes the material next to impossible to learn at times get ready to read your text book and rely on outside sources in order to understand the material. Good luck to anyone who takes this course.
I really liked this teacher and this class. I took his class for summer session 1 and really enjoyed it. Yes, the class was difficult, but it is possible to do well. I was surprised by how well I did in all honesty. He made jokes throughout the summer and was helpful! I enjoyed having Dr. Reeves as a teacher. If you are dedicated you will do well.
Great professor who cares about what he is teaching. If you don't understand the material he is more than willing to answer questions. Lectures are a must for understanding the concepts.
Very caring guy about the subject he teaches and it shows through his knowledge about chemistry but very fast moving and this can effect students who don't necessarily grasp the content on the first go around. this can lead to using a lot of outside sources. tough course but if you put in the work on the outside and prepare, you'll do fine
He talks to the class as if everyone has a degree in chemistry. Prepare to teach yourself most of the class because he doesn't provide enough examples and frequently goes off topic with things unrelated to what you need to learn which only ends up confusing the class.
The exams covered more material than the lectures and were extremely difficult.
He is a very good professor and is very knowledgeable in his field. If you don't attend class, you won't pass. He encourages you to ask questions and come to his office hours. You still need to study for the class but if you do all the homework and attend all the classes, you will have an easy time in this class.
Reeves isn't a horrible professor. He knows what he's talking about. He is such a smart man but for a 101 class it needs to be basic. I could follow him for about half the lecture and then would have to give up because my head would start hurting. He's not a bad choice if you love CHM as much as he does or if your intended major is CHM.
Dr. Reeves knows his stuff. He's a good professor and as long as you go to class and print out his power points you'll do just fine. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does do a class activity everyday for a grade. There are three tests throughout the semester that almost always have huge curves (one had 17 points).
Dr. Reeves is a good teacher in my opinion, he goes off topic a lot but usually gets to the point. Chemistry was a class I had to get an A in and it isn't hard if you really buckle down right before the tests. The SI sessions really help for this class if you don't understand something or if you don't like his teaching style.
This professor was actually not too bad, and I suck at sciences. The MyChemistryLab homework was usually on Yahoo because the homework made NO SENSE. I didn't really use the book; I used it for reference but that's about it. The exams were like 24 questions and SUPER curved. Class was pretty boring but he didn't post notes online for us.
Its a very complex class for someone with little to no chemistry knowledge. Dr reeves is very confusing, goes over material very quickly, and doesn't thoroughly explain all topics. I had an 87% before the final which was dropped to a 79.4%. There is no wiggle room to change your grade and he offered no extra credit. I have to retake the class.
Reeves is a very smart man and you can tell he's super passionate about what he teaches. For us he dropped the lowest quiz and if you did better on the final in a certain topic than you did on the exam based on that topic your grade would be replaced by the better score. He does go into tangents a lot so it's best if you have background info in CHM
JIMMY REEVES is a fantastic professor. He'll give you what you need to know - nothing more, nothing less. He keeps his lectures fairly interesting and always makes the information applicable. He is very clear about grades and is always available to answer questions after class. Very knowledgable guy - try hard and you'll get an A.
Dr. Reeves was a very good professor, for CHM 101 tests are the same for all classes, gives grade replacement on final for prior tests. I enjoyed his class very much and with the help of SI sessions, which I highly recommend, did very well. It is very much a class you can do well in if you apply yourself, if you do not you will fail.
Overall, not a bad teacher, just may be too smart for his own good. You need to fully understand the concepts before coming to class
Dr. Reeves is a very inspiring professor, but sometimes it's hard to understand what he is saying because he is so good at chemistry. However, his lectures were really fun. If you take him, I would definitely recommend attending the SI sessions because you will learn everything from class again and it will really sink in.
