I took professor Sandy his first year at UTA and was totally glad I did. He gives great lectures that are easy to follow along with and take good notes from. He's also clearly got a lot of knowledge about the subjects he teaches on, and on top of that makes lecture a lot of fun with his humor and energy. Totally going to take him for future courses
Very good and his lectures are very interesting. He is a brilliant professor of history. I recommend everyone to take his class.
Professor Sandy is very educated about his particular subject. He is very entertaining and makes you want to pay attention. Definitely he's a good teacher and his grading system isn't too difficult. All quizzes are online and can be answered by studying quizlets. His test will have some written responses, but if you know the subject then your good.
He does not post his power-points for his lectures, so you basically have to go to class. He only has 2 tests in his class, we only have taken 1, and it was super hard. He also makes you read a book and write an 1,000 word essay about it. But a good thing is you have 8 Total online quizzes that total count as 40% of overall grade. I've has worse.
He makes lectures very interesting. NO textbook! The textbook he wants is online free. But you have to buy a book and read/write a book review over it. I like the online quizzes, super easy and the quizzes are a big portion of the grade. His tests are a bit difficult, though...
I am taking his class in the current semester, being an international student I was very afraid of the US history I have to read. To my surprise he made his class interesting as well as informative. Great fan of ASTROS, Dr. Sandy is hilarious and his expectation from students is neither too high nor too low. He understands the difficulty of History
Lectures are not boring as the subject sounds. You will really learn if you attend his lectures. Get ASTROS fan, Dr. Sandy loves teaching and sharing.
Dr. Sandy makes history engaging and interesting. He's also pretty hot, which is a bit encouraging to show up to class, if you're a female. His 2 exams are difficult if you don't study throughly, so I would recommend studying a week ahead and he does require that you read a book and write a review on it.
He only gives 2 tests which are all based off the lectures, all you have to do is show up to understand the material. Pretty basic course, but he's entertaining which makes the class better than any other history ones
Great class, he made a potentially sad/somewhat controversial topic interesting. Although military history isn't my thing, I would definitely take him again. 3 quizzes, 2 tests, 3 papers, no extra credit. His lectures are fun and clearly organized which makes studying so much easier.
He is a nice professor, not at all a tough grader and even gives extra credit. Should take him for both the history courses.
He is amazing professor. He has 2 test out of which i screwed the first one really bad. I met him in his office and worked really hard for the rest of the semester. Though I had a higher B, he considered and curved it to an A. He is a great person and I would definitely recommend him.
Sandy was one of my first College professors, and frankly, he set the bar far too high. If given the chance, I strongly recommend his class. Our book we had to read was fairly dry however, so that and the 1000 essay based on it are really the only difficulties you have to get through.
Great experience all around, fun lectures, and really memorable
I love Dr. Sandy! I even decided to take him for a second semester. He is very down to earth and makes a boring, heavy topic so fun. The tests were kind of hard but if you study you will be fine! He gives great extra credit and will help anyone if they ask.
By far a very good professor! His class consists of a few reading quiz , 2 exams and a book report. Very manageable as long as you read and come to lecture. Lecture is important.
Make sure you go to class because he explains stuff in a way you cant just get the notes from other people. You could probably take an easier history prof, but dr sandy makes class enjoyable and you actually learn about cool stuff. textbook is free but you do have to buy one book and do a book report over it, but he gives you the whole semester.
Dr. Sandy is seriously my favorite prof. I took his classes for both HIST 1311 and 1312. He is great. His lectures go into detail, and he gives the perfect amount of inflection that doesn't make you bored to death. Besides the one bookreview you have to write at the end of the Semester, his tests are pretty easy if you go to class and take notes.
Nice guy, amazing lectures, test are a little hard and theres only 2 (yikes).
Not sure who take take for History 1312? Easiest answer would be Professor Sandy! There is no such thing as a boring lecture, hes very enthusiastic about what he teaches. He only requires a few quizzes, and a book review. There are two exams for the semester, and luckily the last one is cumulative. Easily my favorite professor at UTA!
The best prof i have ever taken my two years at UTA. He makes you want to show up to class and learn. He is very hilarious and knows how to relate to students.
For HIST1312, he had two exams, an essay on a book about the Vietnam War, and three online open-book quizzes. Definitely an amazing and funny guy who cares about history. No daily reading, just show up to lectures and you're good. Also you can just get an audiobook of the book he assigns.
Online open book quizes, 2 study-to-pass exam, 1 decent book review. Extremely nice guy. However, you dont want the TA to grade any of your paper. And yes, I am already enrolled in his second class.
Attendance isnt mandatory, yet Dr Sandy is the prof that makes you come to class just because you want to. He tests over in-class lectures so be ready for a semester of notes; which are simple and clear. Hes a really compelling speaker, charismatic, and he can warm up the crowd like no ones business. His deep passion for history shines everyday.
Dr. Sandy is a great professor! He is passionate about what he does, and his lectures show. The lectures are never boring! I recommend taking his class!
he's super chill and his lectures are actually really interesting. he makes history fun. his tests are super easy if you study his powerpoints. no need to read textbook. attendance is a grade so just show up
Professor Sandy is a greaatt professor. He is super passionate about what he teaches and therefore has amazing lectures. There arent many assignments that are graded. 2 discussion boards, 2 tests and some quizes (this was summer). He makes the class fun, even if you dont love history.
Best!!! Absolute Gem. He really cares about the students. Always willing to help. He really knows what he is talking about and is really passionate about it. Extra Credits are always there. He is the best you can take.
He is amazing I loved his class so much. I had him for an 8am and it was still my favorite class of the semester. He is very knowledgeable and very passionate. I would take his class over and over again. He showed me my passion for history again.
Sandy is a great professor! His lectures are very interesting and he makes learning history fun. He is a young professor who enjoys class discussions. Expect a few online quizzes over material provided and even a book review, but his course is fairly easy. His exams are lecture based but if you attend class and pay attention, you should do fine.
Dr. Sandy is honestly one of the best teachers/professors I have ever had. The class itself isn't too hard, and you don't need to show up every class, but you'll be missing out on some awesome lectures if you don't.
Dr. Sandy is an absolutely outstanding professor! I can summarize his teaching style in one word- PASSIONATE. He loves history and has the ability to inspire others to love it as well through his teaching through a storytelling style. He inspires class discussions and engagement and has a hilarious and sarcastic sense of humor which I loved.
Dr. Sandy is the best teacher that I've had at UTA so far!! He is extremely passionate about what he does and really wants his students to take an interest in history. If you have a problem in class, just talk to him because he wants you to succeed! He goes through a lot but his lectures are always entertaining! It helps that he's super cute too!!!
Dr. Sandy by far my favorite teacher at UTA! His lectures are never boring! There is one book review, two quizzes, two exams, and maybe extra credit. Dr. Sandy is very passionate about history. Sometime he'll tell stories in class about history or the ASTROS. He's a funny and caring teacher and you won't find anyone like him. Take him for History!
At first I was not excited to take this class. But now that the semester is over I can't wait until next semester to take him again. He cares about his students and makes lectures really interesting, he's also really funny LOL! Overall, if you go to class and use review guides he gives, you can easily make an A.
I loved his class he was funny and cute. ALSO VERY GOOD LECUTRES HIS TA WAS A HORRIBLE GRADER.
Amazing Professor!!! Take him, he will help you understand and enjoy history
Dr. Sandy was by far one of my most favorite professors at UTA so far. His lectures are hilarious, he gives the content of history in ways students can easily understand. Only two exams, two chapter quizzes and a book report for grades so make them all count. Overall a great guy, he makes history more exciting because he is so passionate.
Sandy is THE GOAT. Made Cs on both of his exams but still made it out of the class with an A because the book review and extra credit boosted my grade up. You will love his class!!
One of the best professors I've ever had outside my major. This was my second time taking 1311 and I passed because of how engaging and thorough his lectures were. Workload was pretty normal: a couple quizzes, essay, & book review. There are only two tests, short answer questions count the most, but just study and take notes you'll pass easy peasy.
I took Dr. Sandy for HIST 1311 and HIST 1312, and I absolutely loved him! He's the best teacher/professor I've ever had, and I recommend him to anybody and everybody I can. Do yourself a favor and take his course!!!
Probably one of the best professors at UTA. His lectures are amazing and really inspires an interest in history. He covers a lot of controversial topics and wants us to make our own conclusions. There are a couple of papers and he uses TopHat for attendance, and his exams have a large writing portion. Love this guy to death and would take it again.
Dr. Sandy is MY MANNN. I love him to death, I am so sad that I won't be able to take another one of his classes. He's so funny, and dresses nice what else could you ask for in a professor? I would leave home at 5 am to drive 4 hours just to go to his class whenever i went home on the weekends because I did not want to miss a lecture.
There are 2 tests (midterm and final), 1 book review, 1 essay (biography/current event), and 2 online quizzes. The tests are very lecture heavy!! I would highly recommend going to the SI sessions as much as possible, it will help your grade. Dr Sandy is a really great professor and responds quickly to emails. Lectures are mandatory but amazing!
Dr. Sandy is awesome! He is very entertaining and wants you to succeed. Test wise, there is only a mid term and a final, so be sure to study hard for both, and you will be gold. Two easy papers, a couple easy online quizzes to boost your grade, and part of your grade is attendance, so go to class! Dr. Sandy does not waste your time!
WHAT AN AMAZING PROFESSOR. his 50 minute classes felt like 5 minutes. great lecturer. you'll enjoy history like never before.
Super heavy on Vietnam. He knows his history well. His tests are not too fun. Simple but he's the professor who has 2 correct answers; one is good but one is even better and sometimes its based on opinion since not everything is always covered. Attendance is mandatory for 2 grades. 2 papers straight forward but reading the book's a little boring.
Engineering majors you gotta take him channel your skills to learning history you will get an A
Sandy is an amazing professor that really loves and enjoys history. His lectures are very easy to follow and he only assigns two papers. As long as you just follow what the assignments ask then you will make a 100 on all your papers . His exams are moderate, so long as you study. He will give an extra credit assignment and bonus points on exams.
Don't take this professor if you're looking to get an easy A. His lectures are funny and he's a great guy, but exam questions for a 1301 class is ridiculous. You'll spend majority of the time trying to understand the question since it's about 3 sentences long per question, and then before you know it, times up.
BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS! He has a personality like no other. You can feel his passion towards history in the way he gives his lectures. His lectures are short simple and sweet. Keeps you engaged and motivated. Speaks to you like a real person. And he often cancels classes! He is very handsome and dresses nicely. Totally worth your money!
Is an amazing professor! History has always been my worst subject, but Im actually passing and understanding because of him! Definitely recommend.
He has a great personality and teaches well but the tests are graded unreasonably hard. I go to almost all the SI sessions and study for this class and the MC test is HARD and then they expect us to remember every detail for the Short Answer terms. The class is NOT an easy A, but the essays and quizzes are easy enough to at least pass the class.
Dr. Sandy is a great professor. I really enjoyed his class but his exams are very heavy. There might be one or two extra credit. If you don't study, you won't pass. Dr. Sandy's class is not an easy A, you have to work for it.
You can definitely acknowledge his passion for history through the way he teaches. His class was easy, just go to class, take notes and study the guide he makes and you will do fine! Plus he gives out HELLA extra credit. There is one book review but its graded easily if you follow the requirements. I would def take him again hes great!!!!
He is an amazing professor. I got him for Hist1301 and will retake him for 1302 this Spring. I can tell he loves History. His lecture is amazing and you never got bored from that. Easy grader with a book review, a normal essay, 4 assessments and 2 exams. He also give extra credits for movie review.
Prof Sandy is an amazing professor and very interesting coming from someone who isn' a big history person. He really helps you stay tuned and not get bored, but with that being said you HAVE to attend class to write notes and need to go to the SI sessions to do well on the tests. 2 papers and 2 tests consisting of written and multiple choice
An outstanding, funny, and awesome professor. Dr. Sandy is lecture heavy, so as long as you take notes and pay attention to his lecture, his class is easy. We had two exams, a biography paper, and a book review as the major grades and they were all easy, however it is a good idea to really study for the exams. By far one of the best profs at UTA
Two tests all semester - MC and essay on both. Can be a bit of a tough/meticulous grader and you really need to know what you're talking about. Still escaped with an A, but this is not a "show up and pass" class in my opinion. Had to put in some time outside of lecture to read and study.
Amazing Professor! Before COVID19, we have 2 part test, a book review, an essay and quiz. Because Covid19 happens, online class became easier. Although its heavy lecture because you have to read a lot of materials. Easy A class. If you put effort in, you will have an A
My favorite professor, I have had so far!! his lectures are so much fun and I actually enjoy going to them. Tests and papers are really easy as long as you go to lectures and take notes. Really recommend this class and this professor
He gave too many papers for a basic history class that everyone had to take. The tests were difficult as well if you missed a few classes here and there and he did not provide you with access to any of his lecture materials if you missed. He assigned a long biography or current event paper and a book report. Takes this class too seriously.
I LOVEEE him! Took his WWII class over summer & was nervous at first but hes great. His style of teaching is amazing, hes younger so he talks casually & is easy to understand. His online format was organized and consistent, every week you knew what to expect! Nice grader, responds to emails ASAP, considerate guy. I wish I had his class in irl
Ive had him for military history and ww2. If you come in and take good notes you will pass. His lectures are great and informative. The WW2 class was online. He provided lectures and typed all the notes. They were all clear and very organized. Hes all you want in a professor. If you want to learn TAKE HIM! He makes history interesting.
Great professor. Very passionate about History and very dynamic as well.
The most understanding professor I have ever met! Easy grader:)
The professor is super chill, but the TA can be a little rough when grading. He does Untest (create your own test) instead of regular exams so your information must be correct at all times.
Don't get me wrong- Professor Sandy is a really great professor, it's the course itself that's the problem. UTA changed the American History curriculum after spring of 2020 because students were getting high grades too easy. Instead of regular tests you have 4 "Untests". Do yourself a favor and take this class at a CC.
Overall good professor, Ta graded very hard but professor is very understanding and will bump up grade If needed & responds to EMAILS!
very easy grader and enthusiastic
Dr. Sandy is the MAN!! If you want a professor that cares about your success he is the one for you. He has no problem re-explaining things, guiding you in writing papers, or giving you the tough helpful feedback you need. He structures the class so you can be as prepared and successful as possible. You will learn and grow in his classes. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Sandy made this class fun to attend and easy to do well in. Throughout the semester we had four very easy assignments and two big exams. The grading on these exams was very fair, and if you paid attention in class the exams were a breeze. I liked this class so much that I signed up for 1302 next semester. Definitely recommend this professor!
His exams are based strictly on lectures. He mentioned changing his exams this semester so its short answers not multiple choice. Hes very interesting and keeps his lectures short. His other assignments are pretty easy and he provides clear guidelines. His classes are really big so grading does take kinda long.
He is one of the best professor I have ever met. He is easy grader, will respond to your email quickly and also agree with you if there are any mistakes in grading. I have enrolled in his HIST-1302, and I would definitely take his class again
Sandy is great. He's friendly and makes history interesting - although I don't know what your experience will be if you don't like history like I do. Will review again on his 1302 class.
Best history teacher at UTA!
My favorite professor I have had at UTA by far. He makes class engaging, and makes the work immersive yet very manageable. I highly recommend taking his course.
I loved Dr. Sandy he made the class interesting and had impeccable speaking skills, however, at least for my class, he had two assistants that graded the exams one of them gave me a 65 but the other graded my second exam which was 100, whoever he had grading the first exams was harsh and the exams were open note and book I don't understand why.
Professor Sandy provides comprehensive slides during his lectures. If you write down your notes you should get an A. All quizzes are open book and not on lockdown browser. His lectures are interactive and fun. Definitely recommend.
Very easy class, every two weeks there's a lecture quiz. For every quiz, you get two attempts and they are untimed. There's four "source analysis" grades, where you write about a paragraph on each assigned reading. 20% of your grade is on a final paper. Very simple class, no exams, and in general Dr. Sandy is very passionate about the material!
Amazing professor. I might be a bit biased because I like history, but he genuinely makes the class very interesting. He is a bit awkward but funny even though his jokes sometimes fall. Take his class if you need the credit, you will pass.
He is a very easy professor. His lectures are recorded and you do not need to attend in person. His assignments are just as easy.
I've had the pleasure of having Dr. Sandy as a professor for 4 semesters straight and he is easily the best history instructor I've ever had. He's super funny and he's able to make history super interesting with ease. Just make sure you're on top of the readings for the class and that you participate actively in the class and you'll be golden.
I have absolutely nothing but good to say about Dr. Sandy. I am at the end of my second semester in his class, and I have never had a professor who lectures better than him. He provides a textbook and usually we have a book to purchase for a book review. Overall very engaging and such detailed professor who really cares that we learn the material.
Professor Sandy is THE best professor I have had at UTA, hands down no question about it. His lectures are engaging and man does he know how to speak. His class consists of Lecture Quizzes, Short Reading Responses with lenient grading, and a Book Review that can easily be an A if you take the time to write 5 pages. Take this class.
I can't find a single negative thing to say about Professor Sandy. Excellent speaker, easy grader, funny jokes, engaging class. He is undeniably great and the best professor I've had at UTA. If I could go back in time and retake his course, I'd do it every single time. The classwork is Lecture Quizzes, Reading Responses, and a 5-page book review.
Best history professor! Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are worth going to class for, he makes learning fun. No midterms or final, just lecture quizzes every other week, which are easy to get 100s on if you pay attention in class, as well as a book review which is a large percentage of overall grade.
Sandy is a passionate prof who genuinely loves his job. Lectures are very engaging! Assignments are lecture quizzes every other week, a book review, and 4 short answer reading responses. Book review is an easy A as long as you adhere to the rubric. Everything was graded lightly, I would for sure take him again. Cannot recommend him enough :)
Just attend class & take notes and you'll be fine!! There aren't any exams, just papers and quizzes over what he says in class. He's very charismatic and engaging as a lecturer and his passion for history shines through. As long as you write the papers & take lecture notes, you're golden :)
One of the best professors I had. Lectures are entertaining and captivating. If you skip them you would not do well on the quiz.
I took Dr. Sandy for my history seminar and he was phenomenal. Our main assignment that semester was a 15-20 page paper and he surprisingly graded super light but gave awesome feedback at the same time. He was always readily available for help too. I will say participation and attendance really matter though.
I took HIST 1302, and I LOVE this class. He makes history fun and worth engaging in. I also like that attendance isn't mandatory, and the workload is not intense. His instructions are self-explanatory, responsive, and helpful with anything you may need.
Simplified version of History for the sake of time, overall entertaining lectures. 4 Read and responses of a variety of speeches and one weekly quiz based off the lecture in class. Frequent class cancellations and notes are super easy to copy. Gives extra credit if you show up to his student aids lectures.
4 Read and Responses of a variety speeches from activist and politicians for the whole semester, and a weekly 10 question quiz with 3 attempts based off of lecture in class. Gives the short version of content so it's easy to take notes. If you want an easy A this class is perfect for you, if you love history, not really. Frequent class cancelling
Professor Sandy was great. I don't like history but he made it easy to pass as long as you attended class. If you weren't able to he is generous and sends you the slides if needed. He does have hybrid days where you stay home and watch a video and often did cancel class due to family stuff but overall amazing professor.
Professor Sandy makes his lectures engaging and the class material interesting. While the quizzes are open-book, they still require consistent effort. Unstuckstudy and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the content.
