imposiible tests, grades harshly, bad with partial credit
Very hard, but his buns are nice.
test are hard, but he gives TONS of partial credit. he is hot too!!
Best professor ever! Organized, fair, professional, understands all material well and teaches it well.
Horrible...His class is extremely boring. He talks through his nose in a monotone voice and rambles on and on. He does not make it interesting at all.
Dr.Schott is an excellent professor. He is always willing to help and the material he presents is in a very concise University level manner. I think he is great and I look forward to having another class with him someday.
Very fair class, lectures are boring but at least you'll know what to expect.
he is horrible. He goes on extremely long tangents & is not clear on anything he goes over. I learned more from reading the book than actually going to class. I would not recommend him to ANYONE.
He is the most boring person I have ever met. His information is very limited and if you follow the book, you can do it on your own. If you take him, bring a pillow to the class.
I have had Dr. Schott for 3 classes. Stat Theory I and II were very hard, and Categorical Data wasn't too bad. He is a boring lecturer, but is easy to understand and will go out of his way to help students. Is a very fair grader, but you had better study because the material is challenging.
Simply Awesome!
He's a great teacher. He lectures over exactly what you need to know for tests, and his tests are very similar to example problems in the lecture, textbook, and assigned homework. He also reviews briefly before every test and goes over homework questions. The material can be challenging but he makes it very manageable. I highly recommend him!
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! This class is not a cake walk what so ever. There are only 3 tests! No homework, no attance, no nothing. ONLY the tests and the final. Tests are long and time consuming, you don't have enough time to complete them. I had to withdraw from this class and I would never take a class he teacher EVER!
Information is taught, but professor doesn't go over enough problems in class, or teach anything other than theory. The emphasis is placed on definitions, but you will be tested on application. Take Susan Schott instead.
He is not a good professor what so ever! There are only 3 tests and the Final! No extra credit, No homework grade, No attendance, No nothing! So if you F up on the first exam it's pretty much over. I had him over the summer and ended up withdrawing from the class. Take him at your own risk!!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!
Challenging class. His lectures are pretty boring but pretty useful. You leave feeling like you did not learn anything but when you do the hw you realize that you did. Do/understand all of the hw and the tests will be fine. Your whole grade is 4 tests at 25% each. No comprehensive final. I always did better on the tests than I originally thought .
He is a wonderful professor. He teaches in a way that is easy to understand, although the content is difficult. Always available with office hours to answer questions, tests are open book and notes, final is not cumulative. If you can understand and do all the recommended problems, you will do fine on the exams.
Statistics: This is a pretty straight forward class. I would reccomend showing up so you know what's going on.. even though it is boring. No extra credit whatsoever, but tests are open note and open book. I'd reccomend him as a professor. He's very good at explaining things, easy to understand very willing to help and accomidate his students.
He was a pretty good teacher. He let us used a formula sheet and our text book on the tests which was helpful. You must do well on the tests because your grade is based on 3 tests and the final. I took the class over the summer and I was pleasently surprised.
Like earlier comments - exams were open book, and you could use a formula sheet. If you do the HW you should get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you listen in class you'll see that he pretty much tells you what kind of problems will be on the exams. I would definitely take him again.
First of all, keep in mind that 90% of the class will have past tests--there is a big grapevine for this class of past tests and since the tests are very different context-wise than the notes/HW, and the fact that the large amount of ppl with past-tests prevent a curve, I would say it is neccessary to make friends fast and get them. Thats my advise
Attend class, work the homework, and make friends who have already had the class, and you'll do fine.
If you do the homework, you should be fine. He gives you all of the homework the first day. He uses lots of examples and expains things well.
Stats is a hard class for most. Many professors cannot teach it in a way that makes sense. However this professor knows his stuff and can actually answer your questions provide you word them correctly. Prof. Schott uses powerpoints that summarize the chapters in the book. Read your book and do some homework and make a good formula sheet. Take him!
He is a pretty good teacher. He uses powerpoint and uses lots of examples and explains the topics very well. I recommend him for statistics.
Good professor! His tests are fairly easy and he lets you use a formula sheet that you can write anything on. All you need to do is review his notes for the test, I never opened the book. Easy A if you are good at math
I thought his class was pretty easy. I'm not a math person, however if you make a good formula sheet and just go over his notes, you can definitely get an A
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! This class is not easy in any way what so ever. There are only 4 tests! No homework, no attendance, no quizzes, no extra credit. ONLY the 4 tests and the final exam. To make it worse, the exams are multiple choice, meaning no partial credit for minor mistakes. These tests are only 16 questions, so miss a few and you fail.
Horrible professor. He was veryyy unhelpful and very confusing!! The only grades for the class are exam grades and they are only 16 to 20 questions so if you miss a few you fail the exam which turns into failing the class. Stay away from this professor!!
Well organized and detailed lectures. Gives plenty of examples to go along with the lesson. Only grades are the 4 tests, and doing the HW is crucial to doing well on the tests, but he offers plenty of time leading up to the test to go over HW problems in class. You will have to work to do well in his class, but he doesn't just throw you overboard.
If you have to take this class, this is the professor to take it with. The rest of them are harder than him. There are 4 tests, all of which you can have a formula sheet for. The questions on his test are similar to the questions that you take notes on in class, so definitely attend class. HW is optional. Recommended.
Do not take Schott! Your grade is made up of 4 exams and a final, with no curve. He's boring and monotone.
This professor explains the concepts somewhat, but he moves entirely too fast. You will still need to attend class, and you will also have to do every single homework problem. Your grade is made up of 4 tests and 1 final exam. Your tests will be no more than 16-20 questions (usually 16), so if you miss more than 5 and you fail. He offers no curve.

I would really recommend taking Schott for STAT 2023. This was my second time taking it, and the first time was absolutely HORRIBLE with Uddin. He's notes are simple and to the point. Pay attention to his notes for tests, and make good cheat sheets for the tests! (He allows one sheet of paper for every test and two for the final)
He is HORRIBLE run i had jury duty and he would not excuse it or let me take it later, he has only 4 test if u fail you fail he does not care enough to help students pass by throwing a curve. He seems not to care if you fail or not if you can AVOID him. you get a formula sheet but all stats teachers give that. WARNING again dont take him
Stat Theory I & II, 2 semester sequence. Each semester there are 4 tests, 25% each. Tests are difficult, and if you bomb one there's no coming back. 1st test of I is easier, gets more difficult from there. You have to study you're butt off for this class. Schott's a good teacher, but his tests are a challenge, even for the strong math students.
This class is great! the info is a bit difficult for some. go to s.i., do the HW with the gta's and you should be FINE! im doing well and i skip most of his classes. his tests are 16 ques. multiple choice. knw ur stuff n he wnt trip u up!
for stats 1, Mrs. Schott, Dr. Schott's wife is the best teacher. then comes Dr. Schott then Uddin. if you cant take Mrs. and then take Dr Schott. he moves fast but its not impossible. do all of the homework and make sure you understand it. he does let you have a formula sheet which is the most underrated key to passing the class
I thought this class would be easy, but it confused me a lot on what formulas to use. If you know which formulas to use in all the situations you're set because you get a formula sheet. Not that bad a class, but still would have liked an A over the B I got. He's a good guy.
This professor is awesome. Clear and to the point teaching. He moves fast, but will stop to go over something over and over if necessary (so ask questions). Tells exactly what will be on exams. Exams straightforward and no tricks (make good formula sheets). Very helpful during office hours. An A is very possible with some effort.
He is very straightforward and you have to go to class to get his notes (no powerpoints on webcourses). I found him very easy and tests were easy if you practiced all the recommended problems on the syllabus. If you have a question, ask. He is good about clarifying and explaining. If you give it some effort you can get an A.
Only four tests and a final make up your grade. Doesn't explain things well at all. Does curve grade at the end however. Allows formula sheet for each test
4 tests, one final. Tests were extremely fair given some study was done. Homework optional, but helpful for tests. Relatively easy A if you put in a little time studying and doing practice.
The expectations are crystal clear. There are 9 chapters of HW problems on syllabus. They are very similar to the tests. The lectures are dry, but very clear. He hints at anything that is tricky or often missed by students. Not a big time-commitment to ace this class.
His lectures are great and tests are fairly easy. He definitely does some curving. I calculated my grade to a B, and somehow ended up with an A. Make sure to view tests to see what you miss, they definitely come up in the final again!
Take his class in the summer, it's a MUCH better experience. I took his class twice, & my grade improved a whole letter grade by taking it in the summer. He's much better in smaller classes vs. auditorium classes. In the summer the exams are written vs a scantron so it helps get extra points. GOOD TEACHER! You'll appreciate him & his notes later!!!
Stat Theory 1 and 2. Pretty tough classes. No accent, very clear on problems. Exam questions come from homework and in class examples. Goes word for word by the book, and a little dry but I'd still recommend going. Very nice, but be prepared to be a little bored in his classes. 4 tests, 25% each. No cumulative final.
I had to retake this class because the professor last year had such an accent I could barely understand the class. This guy is CRYSTAL clear and makes the course so EASY to understand. I CANNOT believe it and I am terrible at Statistics. Take his class..
Took this in the summer. Honestly, this class is pretty easy. He's clear and concise. Makes everything easily understandable. He gives you an 8 by 11 piece of paper for exams you can write anything on. I did the homework the night before exams and got A's on all the tests. Super easy,
Great professor. Doesn't crack jokes or play around in class like "cool" teachers do but he teaches you and that what you need out of a math class. Lets you make your own reference sheet for tests and he does no like trick questions. Very helpful and is always prepared to answer any questions. Definately suggested.
Straight forward, lectures are very boring though. All exams open book open notes. His notes are pretty much the best study aid. Do the suggested homework problems for extra practice. Easy to get an A if you put a little bit of time into studying and paying attention in class.
Must keep up with everything from the start or else you will be lost. He does not post power points. Your grade is made up of 4 tests and the final. If you do not do the homework problems that he suggests, you will fail.No tests dropped, class based on total points.
Awesome professor. His lectures are pretty boring but very straightforward and to the point. Easy class if you study your notes and do the suggested homework problems. Try not to make stupid mistakes on the tests since they are only 16Q multiple choice.
Excellent professor. Lectures are succinct, yet information dense. Tests are challenging but reasonable. Professor Schott devotes plenty of time to answering student questions.
Dr. Schott is great. I was forced to take this course, so my interests weren't there, yet I EARNED an A. I'm not a stats major, but Stat theory is a math course. Proofs and derivations make the class easy if you're a math major. He derives everything in class, and proves all results, which is great. His lectures were excellent, and well prepared.
Fair and fun teacher. He's clear, uses power points, and is happy to further explain anything not understood in class, after class or in his office. Hardest part about the class with the small number of questions on the tests, which is the only thing your grade is based on. 15 or 17 a test, and mistakes are easy to make if you're not careful.
This class is not hard, you have to attend every class and take notes. All grade base on the exams, but he allows us to use a note paper for each exam. so just make sure you write all equations and importance on that paper. then you'll be fine.
Dr. Schott's lectures are pretty straightforward. He does NOT post slides online, so I'd suggest going to class cuz the TAs start to give you judgmental looks after your 4th visit to their office for the notes (I'm sort of joking.) If you're a good student and do the homework problems despite him not collecting them, you'll do fine.
Your grade is based only on 5 exams. He is straight forward with everything, and always offered to help. The exams weren't that tough, but if you don't go to class, you most likely won't do well. He was funny at times, but a majority of the time, he was just reading the PowerPoint and giving examples and explaining (kinda dry, but good lecturer).
Pretty good teacher. Make sure you go to class; his powerpoints are not posted online. As long as you pay attention in class, take notes and do the homework, the tests are pretty easy.
Getting the textbook is pointless. To succeed just review your notes and practice the problems he gives in his power points rather than the ones he assigns for homework. Homework problems rarely help you study. He allows formulas sheets for his exams, which helps a lot.
STA43214322 is one of the toughest classes at UCF and is a weedout for all Statistics Majors and inspiring actuaries. You have 4 tests, they are all difficult, and there are no drops. Go to every class, do the homework questions multiple times(chegg and find the solutions manual online is a must). Dont put off studying. Hardest class I've taken.
Its the hard stats and i feel like his class was easier than if i would have taken with someone else. His notes are really good because those examples in the notes are the questions he uses for the tests. Make sure you do really good on all the test because the final is the deciding factor. Do all the HW probs before a test and youre good
Professor Schott does his best, but with 300 students it hard to appeal to everyone's specific needs and different ways of learning. Honestly the hardest part about this class is that the test are so short. They're usually 16-20 questions. so if you don't know how to do one concept from the chapter and there are two questions on it than you fail.
Boring Lecturer. Grade is based off of 5 exams, that's it. no curves, no drops. He doesn't post power-points but slow in class so you can write everything down. I didn't use the textbook or solutions manual but I would recommend it to get practice. His exams are harder than his examples so learn how to find all variables. allowed a formula sheet
GO TO CLASS! His slides arent posted online and theyre how you learn. RECIPE FOR A: go to class copy slides yada yada, DO THE SUGGESTED HW THE NIGHT BEFORE AN EXAM (MOST ARE ON EXAM DIFFERENT SCENARIOS/ NUMBERS) and have an organized formula sheet. My exam Grades: 100 93.75 93.75 100 Final 92.5. The final was cumulative so make sure to prepare!
His powerpoints are not online, so go to every class so you can get the formulas (I rarely went and got a C) Copy the notes down, and keep an organized notebook, it will help you study for the final. He allows a formula sheet for each test (4 of them). He assigns homework problems but they are just to help you study, he doesn't collect it. Take him
Dr. Schott is very nice. You can always go to his office, and he will be happy to help you. However, the way he explains the material could be a lot better. I regret going to class. Many students, including myself, stopped going to class and just studied on our own, and saw our grades greatly improve. Go to SARC or VARC tutors instead of class.
At first he was difficult to understand. However, he takes the time to clarify when students asked. Always respectful and courteous. Tests are exactly like problems from lecture. Doing homework problems helps you get an A on the tests. No quizzes or extra credit.
Grading is 4 tests (with 7-10 questions), each 25 % of final grade; so you will know exactly what you need on the final to pass the class, or if you should drop. Test questions are exactly like exercises from the book, even problems that weren't assigned show up. At least 1 proof is on each test. Schott himself has a stern appearance but he's nice.
You can use an 8.5x11" piece of paper with WHATEVER notes you want on it for every test. His lectures are super clear and his tests are pretty easy with examples exactly like he goes over in class. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll pass with flying colors and never need the textbook.
Prof. Schott was very straightforward in his explanation of the course material and handled questions very well. He would engage the class in asking questions of the material to make sure we were following along. 100% of the grade is test based but they are not terribly difficult. He allows a formula sheet for each exam. The class is HW free! :)
There are 4 tests and a final. Each of the 4 has b/w 10-15 questions so if you miss one it counts a lot. You can use a 8.5x11 paper with anything you want on it, 2 for the final, but tests can still be hard. Do the HW, questions from there are on the test. Go to his lec b/c he does not post anything online. His PPTs are not online.
He's very organized and is more than happy to help if you reach out. Stats Theory is tough by nature but I feel that his test were fair. Make sure you study what he goes over in test reviews. ALL OF IT. I can't imagine a better teacher for the course. Mrs. Schott was great too! What a power couple :D
Professor James is great. He cares a lot about his students. I am not good at math and I passed every one of the tests including the class. My honest advice do the homework, study his lectures and go to class you WILL NOT fail his class. He lets you use a formula sheet for every exam and two sheets on the final. I will definitely take him again!
Dr. Schott is very straightforward, and that is awesome! His exams come straight from his notes, but do come to class since he doesn't post these notes online. He's very open to questions during class, and he always gives enough time for everyone to copy down the notes. I wished more professors were like him.
His tests are basically his power points. They are not online so you HAVE to go to class to get the notes. I never understood anything in class so I basically studied on my own the entire semester. His first test is 20 questions and the other 3 are 16. So you can only get 1 question wrong to keep an A. Your grade is only the exams. No extra credit.
Went to class about half the time and received an A. He does not send you the powerpoints so I would recommend going to class to copy them down because the tests are about the same as the questions in class with different numbers.
Professor Schott is an excellent professor, and is also a fair grader. Make sure you go to class because he doesn't put Power Points online. Make sure you use the textbook to study practice questions in the back of the book. I would happily take another class of his.
Schott is great. Entire class is 4 exams. Gives homework that isn't collected, but youre going to have to work to do well. Exams match the homework problems and his grading is fair. The class is difficult by nature, but he does a good job with teaching and giving the materials to succeed. I would recommend this professor for any math class.
Really wonderful professor. He truly wants you to succeed and will spend time with you if you go to his office hours. He is really patient as well as being knowledgable.
This class is only based on 4 exam grades and a final. For each exam you get to bring a cheat sheet. The material can get a little difficult but still doable. Make sure to do and study all of the examples from lecture because they show up on the exam. The SI reviews saved my grade in this class!
He's a good teacher. Lecture is strictly based on copying his PowerPoint notes; he does not put them online. He gives homework, but not for a grade, but it's a good studying tool. There are only 4 exams and a final. His tests are very similar to the examples he does in class. Study hard and review his examples.
Awful professor, especially if you need help. Visited office hours frequently and he could care less. Some people love him but he is not for someone who struggles with math.
Most straightforward prof ever. Both classes (4321/4322) have 4 tests, about once a month, each worth 25% of your grade. Does derivations and proofs in class, but also homework problems in class. If you attend class a good amount, study the material, do some of the hw, and do well on the tests, you'll pass. Accessible during office hours. Cool dude
Schott is a great teacher. The tests are pretty easy, and don't cover anything he didn't teach. He recommends doing practice problems from the textbook, but they aren't required.
Lectures were super easy to follow, understood everything he said. Was a great teacher with clear expectations. If you go to class youll be prepared for the exams.
