Mr. Schubert is a very nice teacher. He seems a little simple minded and sometimes looks confused by questions, but he genuinely wants to help. I think he explains things from a very simple point of view and that can really help. He was a good teacher.
Very hard exams. Difficult to understand lecture material. Nice guy but I wouldn't recommend.
Teacher is a nice/funny guy.But when it comes to the teaching of this class, you have to do a lot of the figuring out on your own.His lecture often does not include what is on your homework. When you ask a question about a math problem, he can't explain.
He is a sweatheart, but he just can't teach math
Schubert is the WORST teacher I've ever had. Not only does he not explain things well the first time around, he often refuses to answer questions. He jokingly makes demeaning comments toward individual students and the class as a whole.
Actually, it all depends whether u do the homework or not. If u do the homework and ask questions, it will be very easy. However, his lecture is kinda of difficult to understand.
When working on problems, he gets too lazy to derive something or finish the problem. He comes to lecture unprepared sometimes as he makes up problems that he can't even solve at times. If you want to do ok in this class, understand the book.
funny and excellent. not recommended for the lazy students
He is a kind teacher. Easy to get B but not A. He has a very weird grading scale. if u get a grade higer than mid term on the final exam, he will count the final three times. if u get B, u will get A if your final is A
very fair, does not favor anybody, not even asian students
ONe word: Excellent.
This dude can't teach! He makes simple concept very confusing. He doesn't stick to the book, so what you study at home doesn't count. He tells us that things aren't important if he doesn't want to explain or can't explain...don't take this dude.
He is not able to explain math problems. He does not give homeworks, so the students do poorly on tests. He has a wierd system of grading. He doesn't have a clue about what he is doing, but he is a nice guy.
Not great, but not nearly as bad as these comments say

Horrible teacher!!!!
Although Math 402 is the lowest math, this teacher CANNOT explain what we are supposed to do. When asked to help, he gets upset. The money I spent on books and tuition was a waste of money. He is absolutely the worst teacher.
even though he is very nice, he does not know how to teach for sh*t. hes like a lil kid stuck in a grown mans body. he is very unclear and does things his way, and doing it by the book will not help. dont take him if you want to learn or get an A.
His tests are not that difficult, because he does not teach. He follows his own way and often jumps from subject to subject. Overall, a nice guy but in order to recieve an "A," one must learn on their own.
Sometimes he makes things easier than the book, and sometimes he'll just confuse the heck out of you. If he fits your schedule, its not impossible to learn in his class.
I had him at summer, he gave us a very hard time during the summer, most of the students dropped from his class, he gave hard tests!! dont take his class.
like the person below said, not as bad as people say, but htere are better teachers in the math department at PCC.
A nice person, but not a great teacher. He flirts too much with female Asian students, and sometimes babbles way too much. His tests are tricky and difficult. Make sure to master the material on your own to get a decent grade on his tests. 50% drop rate.
worst math teacher ever, don't do this to yourself. in the beginning of class he adds more people than there are seats available and by the end 50% of them are gone.... go figure.
Seriously the worst teacher I've ever had. Kicked a girl out for complaining that he wasn't willing to help, which was true. Can't/won't explain the material. Very insulting. I filed a complaint against him and was told that many others had done so, too.
schubert is not as bad as people say. those that are comlaining are the ones that don't do hw. do the hw and everything will be straight foward...although i do admit he is a bit queer..
just very bad
Just very bed teacher!
I took both math5A and 5B with him, he is nice guy and actually the easiest teacher in the math department, if you guys can't do well in his class, and you will probably FAIL for all other math classes.
Schuberts lectures are well organized and step by step, but u must do all assigned homework which complements his lecture in order to get a good grasp of the material yourself since calculus isnt a walk in the park.So cut the guy some slack and do your HW
This teacher rushes through the first three chapters leaving the class baffled and struggling for the rest of the semester. He uses no syllabus all the assignments are done at the moment and he just doesn't explain things well. Seems like a nice guy but
Talk to math department supervisor about him and maybe he will prepare better and care more about students. Unprepared
He's terrible. He took too long for the first 4 chapters and rushed throught the rest of the course. Very mean and unclear. It's true that he ****s a lot. The wrost ever!
About four tests and one comprehensive final. There is no such a thing as an easy Calculus class. Schubert's teaching method is very simple and the class isn't the "Caltech" teaching style of other Math 5AB professors. Fair amount of homework.

Frankly speaking, his tests are not hard, but his lectures are very poor and unprepared. He usually tell you what is goind to be on the test, but he is a hard grader, take off a lot of point for simple things.
very unclear.. very unorganized.. comes up with his own "schubert theory".. does not like the book's method.. confusing.. boring... shares too much of his life stories.. overall blah
His lectures are very disorganized, and he doesn't really teach. I feel sorry for anyone who does not understand. But, his tests are super easy, just do the homework to understand the material. Nice guy, but insecure.
James Schubert loses his concentation while explaining concepts. Worst instructor I've ever had in any subject.
lame...mean...unhelpful...
Especially his tests are easy but he almost always not prepares for lecture. He always takes a lot of points in tests for minor errors. His grading system is different from most professors.
Trig is hard anyways and he doesn't try to hide it. His 'theories' make more sense than the book, and though hmwk is a lot, it helps for the test. Tests are easy but you get marked for mistakes. He drops lowest test. Final is opt. if you have C or above (it only helps!). He's so funny- I liked him.
I don't understand what he is doing.
Extreme amount of homework. Very strange grading system. Takes off a lot of points on minor mistakes on tests. He's an unfair teacher. Do not take him! He has a very low test score average in his classes....that should say something...
take off so much points of minor mistake
He takes off a lot of point (sometimes whole points) for a very simple mistake.....and his lecure not follow to the book, he just come out by himself theory..therefore you still have to read book in order to catch the class.
He belittled me, harassed me and encouraged his teenage students to harassed me. Because Iam Black he accused me of cheating. He blatantly said he was going to trick us after I managed to make a good grade. One of his students kicked at me because she wanted to defend his evil ways.
long hard ass tests
He is idiotic, ****, demeaning, irritating, He said those who didn't know Math should go back to Elementary school. He insulted an elderly man who was his own age as if he were younger than him. When I made to 'B's on his tests he said he was really going to try and trick us. student harassment.
He was incredibly difficult, and couldn't teach at all. He took off so many points for little things on tests and his class is almost impossible to get an A in if you're not a math genius. Nice guy, but terrible teacher. Weird grading system, too.
NEed i say more.......... he is the worst professor ever. shouldn't be called a professor, cuz he's given the name a bad rep. please PCC do something about him.!!!
He's such a goofy guy you'll forgive him for his grading system. He went over the homework every day in class which helped a lot. Easy enough if you're good at math. I'd take him again. He's really sweet.
This guy is easy just do all the homework and you will do fine.
He didn't know how to teach. We asked him easy problems on the homework, he didn't know how to do that, and he checked with the solution manual. But the test is very hard, and he will take a lot of points off for a little mistake. Don't take Schubert if you want to get "A". I drop Math 5B today.
he is hard dude. there are a lot of Fs in his class. um..yeah. if u wanna get an A.. better don't take it except u are a nut in math
Just dont take him.

Ok Professor, do homework and don't mess up stupidly in the tests, you will be B and A student, His grade scale help you a lot if you do good in final. I likely refer but i don't know about other professors
No Comments
He's the worst teacher ever!
dun take his class, especially calculus, he is crazy dude, take away almost fill credit for minor mistake, his exam is easy but he can find way to take away ur points, i beg u not to take him even u really good at maths, unless u wanna mess up ur grade
It's revenge of the nerds. For sure he was picked on when he was younger and now he has the power to make others suffer. Be warned.
One of the worst professors i even had in PCC. Dont take his class, his grading is HARD, he takes a lots of point for a stupid mistake. He doesnt know how to teach...Worst math professor.
A very poor professor. He acts like a dork and tricks you into believing his false lies. He claims his tests are easy, but everyone fails. Class started with 40 people and ended up less than 15. Tests are HARD because he takes off major points for small mistakes. Unless you write perfect solution manual style answers, don't take him.
he's hard only because he gives a few problems and they're worth a lot of points on the tests. For one little mistake he'll take a good amount of points off which will definately lower your grade. He's boring and i would recommend that you do not take this professor.
Don't like this professor at all.
He is a good teacher, and he explains everything clearly. But you want to get a good grade, you need to struggle a lot. his test like his homework. if you do homework, you will be fine.
He is not the worst. He is a HARD GRADER plus his tests are difficult sometimes. However, he is VERY HELPFUL and answer any question when you ask him. He solves problems intelligently. I've built a stronger math skill from his teaching. This class again is hard, but i survived through it and got an A!It not only requires hardwork butalso smartness!
yeaaaaa, his class is kind of hard. you should pay more attention in the class note, his tests is bases on the notes what he did, those style.if your math is not so poor, get a B is not so difficul, try best.
he's not so hard. if u review all the hw, notes, and the examples in the textbook before the test. u will be fine.
he always look at ur little little mistake to takes off ur point. Talk too much that's not related to the cause during class.
he makes too many mistakes in class while you are trying to understand the material then he grades the test with a fine tooth comb. complety ridiculous grading system(unfair) and he spends 20% of the time explaining and 80% ****. hard. one of the worst math instructors. he doesnt teach the book prepare to be confused.
his class is fair and he dun gave too much homework. if you do all the questions and study all the sample test questions he gave before the tests, u can get A for sure as i did.
Nice guy, awkward, okay teacher...
I took this guy for Math 8 and thought he was extremely horrible. If you are interested in listening to his boring life stories and then failing his class then you should take him. if you want a good grade, stay far away from him. He thinks he's all that. He takes points off the test if you drew your lines cricked, or if you missed a comma.
good teacher, but test is difficult. i learn a lot from him.
Mr. Schubert is a great professor. He's not boring, which is definitely a plus. He goes through the material in a fast steady pace, yet he covers everything and always answers your questions. Also he teaches Everything that's going to be on the test. If you're very slow at understanding math don't take him, but otherwise he's a great professor.
This teacher isnt very helpful at all. Alot of people in my class tried asking him questions and many times he just makes them feel stupid for asking them. He is a perfectionist when it comes to his test so prepare to get points taken off for very small dumb things. be very careful on your graphs!!
He is the most freaking teacher that I have ever had in my life. He made me lose my ethusiastism for math
He's so dumb you wont believe it! Doesn't know what he's talking about. After he gives out the test he sits at his own desk trying to solve the problems. If you catch a problem with his work he's just going to make a face and tell that he's right.
Honest opinion: If you find math interesting, you can survive. Otherwise, not a good teacher. He makes up test that differ greatly from the homework assigned, hard to study for them. His conduction of class is silent and boring, hard to sit through. He tries to joke, often get carried away. He does have a nice attitude, but impossible to pass
bottomline, if you're a math major, you'll do fine in his class, he prepares you well if you stay on task and do the work. prepare for test that have nothing to do with the homework. otherwise, dont take him if you just need a math requirement, you won't be able to stand him.
I aced every test but one going into the final and was completely lost. he cant teach and is extremely boring. he'll make you hate math.
Worst teacher ever...I had a 4.0 going into the class and I got a C. If you want to do well you will have to sacrifice having a life. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! ANYONE...
he accussed me of tearing a page off of one of my tests and gave me a big F. i dropped the class after 1 month. best decision i ever made
He's cool but regarding method of grading: Toughest professor in PCC. Exams are very hard. You can pass exams but will take so many points off on details that will drop your grade significantly. I noticed about 2/3 of class had either D's or F's on exam. Half the class dropped before I did. He wants to see work, looks at detail, and makes you pay.
this guy honestly shouldnt be teaching. its sad that there are actualy professors this bad. i would highly recommend not to him under any circumstances. classes boring, teaching is bad, and tests are hard. got a C in his class and an A in my trig class, wish i could explain
He is cool and funny! You'll never fall asleep in his class. His test is quite hard, but if you do all homework he assigns, you will get A easily. You can also get extra credits to improve your grade. I recommend you should take his class!!!!
im a math major and always been interested in math-- this guy can not teach at all -try asking a question that requires critical thinking and he would not be able to answer it - at all -he's very pessimistic about the subject and not confident about what he is talking about-tests does not have anything to do with homework. I regret taking his class
Can't teach at all. Admits it. Don't take.
You will not be weak in math if you can finish this class. No EZ grades here. He is friendly and approachable. I hate this class but I'm better for having taken it.
i'll leave it simple, if you take his class, you will struggle to get a C whereas if you took an average proffesor, you would get an A. i felt i grapsed calculas very well but his pickiness about certains areas will just frustrate the student. do not take him, he should be the definition of a BAD TEACHER.
If u r de kind of guy who dun like detail,u wud like this guy.He mak thing simple 2 understand. If u tak all de notes in class & mak sure u reali understand de hws,u r on de way 2 get an A.I rarely read de textbook [too complex 4 me],i still got A in both his classes.Exams Qns are expect.Dun make careless mistakes or HE WILL KILL U. He's a nice guy.
the most stupid teacher everrrr
He is a pretty good guy. His tests are not easy, but they are not hard. He provides both hard and easy questions. I gotta admit he wasn't easy, but the truth is guys nothing in life is easy. He is not a hard grader though, for he drops one bad tests out of the 5 you get. =)
Test r hard, doesn't know how to teach.
tough grader. he reads every little details in tests and takes off lots of points. But he's an excellent teacher; he's the best math teacher I've had. His emphasis is to make sure that you understand calc, instead of just cranking it out. Plus, You don't really "grasp" calc if you keep making mistakes. Be super careful and double check in tests
although lots of people here say Dr. Schubert is bad, he is ok if you compare him with other math teachers. math is hard anyway..and Dr. Schubert is nice if you can stay his class in the end. he lets you drop 2 tests if your final is better than the average.. i think he is not so hard and if you try hard, you can get B or A..
He is a complete idiot!! He can't teach. All he does is talk about how he went from PCC to UCLA and 20 years later back to Cal State LA to get his masters, where he took 2 courses of calc at once. "Not to brag or anything, but it was easy and I got As easily!" If you like math at all, STAY AWAY!!! He makes you lose all respect for the subject.
i used to like it, but after having him i lost interest, always went off topic and bragged about his math skills. also talked about some girl commiting suicide a lot. hes pretty funny though, i'll give him that, but he doesnt teach, just copies the examples from the book to the board.
this teacher is a tough grader. he always talks about him only being smart and for him everybody else is a "NORM" his final is so hard. if he makes a mistake on a test problem he will take points off and won't care it was his mistake. he doesn't even bother to type the test so if you get confuse with numbers or variables he will take points off.
BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD TEACHER!!! my worse experience in taking math classes in 15 years
You can't get a good grade on his class whatever effort you make. Don't take his class becasue your GPA will be dropped down becasue of his unfair grade in this class. If you get a low GPA, you can't transfer to a good university. After you graduate, you can't get the good job. Therefore, taking his class will destroy ur whole life.
Terrible! His tests are very hard and he is totally unfair when he grades the test. He will take off points for any little mistake. Don't take his class, you'll regret it big time.

VERY BAD TEACHER
I studied and followed lectures. I liked his sense of humor.....different perspective. Good luck
he is very funny and tells many stories but his tests are so hard and the material in the tests are not so well explained. He makes you hate math.
the reason his rating is bad because most of people do not go with him until final..you can even drop two tests if your final score is better than your previous average. He is a good teacher. If you try hard and stay until the end, you can get A or B.
His class is easy to pass, but hard to get an A. He said the test comes from the HW,but actually,i guess he picked the harest questions in the HW.
Hes unpridicatble, forgetswhat he is talking about, dosnt help studnts that are struggling, makes lame jokes,He does not explain things clearly, tells class of problems he likes and will include in test then doesnt even include them, for homework tells you study problems given for test then doesnt even include them on test.
Hard tests...super boring. I didn't pass the class because he was so boring I slept through his lectures. Copies notes and examples from the book and writes them on the board word for word.
He's a really hard teacher and likes to talk about his past a lot. If you're taking this to go ahead, fine. But don't take this class for a grade because transferring it can hurt your overall gpa.
As long as you go to his class and listen to him, you will get a good grade. Remember to copy everything what he writes on the board!
although I like how he teaches and can understand him, however, in my opinion, he is a very unfair grader and will ruin your GPA. I tried sooo hard just for a B.
even though he goes off topic a lot, but he tells you what's going to be on the test. easy teacher, i got an A+ in that class, final comes from previous tests
Homeworks and lectures have nothing to do with his tests. He's always not sure about what he's talking about. He made me hate Math and messed up my GPA. I honestly don't know why he still has his job.
i think he's fine, hard grading but as long as you study then you will be fine. he also drops your lowest test, easy final
he s very difficult, especially the final, but you could still get A if you getA in final....his class funy but not very clear...maybe he top 5 difficult math teacher
HE GIVES LOT OF HOMEWORK BUT IT IS USEFUL ANYWAY IF YOU CLEARLY ALL THE QUESTIONS FROM THE HOMEWORK YOU WILL GET A. FINAL TEST IS ALL FROM OTHER TESTS.ESSY TEACHER.
His teaching is different, I am sure he means well and wants us to learn. He is a good natured man.
Not a good professor. He's a really nice guy, but really does not know what he's talking about. He's confused with the curriculum often and ends up confusing the entire class. What he puts on the tests are things he never taught the class. Avoid him.
lazy, hard grader, your on your own, good luck
likes to be nitpicky about little things on tests. Doesn't curve. Bad if you make little mistakes. No partial credit!
he is a talkative and nice guy.i dont think his class is hard.instead, its pretty easy.just hw is kinda a lot,but he allows you to skip some parts.lecture is okay for me,maybe not that comphrehensive for some students.
2 words: Avoid him. you will regret it. i dropped it before he was going to ruin my GPA. most of the time ended up confusing himself and would ask the students for help??!! INSANE! tests were hard cause he marked down for everything if it wasn't "schuberts way" of doing the problems.
tests hard..lectures hard to follow cuz he goes off topic...nice guy tho...drops two lowest tests if ace final...got b averages on tests but got an a on final so got a final grade of an a
hard test, strange grading method.
Do yourself a favor: DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!! He's a hard grader (He does not curve & is very picky on test). He constantly talks about irrelevent subjects, very confusing. Test questions are from hardest ques on hw, but he'll change the numbers to make it 10x harder, very unpredictable. Don't take his class unless you already know trig very well.
Bad professor. Extremely hard test. He really bad at explaining things, and he often makes mistakes while solving math problems on the board, and doesn't even realize it until his students correct him. Yet, he expects his students to make absolutely NO mistake on test. He will mark off any little mistake, and he doesn't give partial credit.
takes many points for small mistakes. had A before taking final and got a D on the final. I think he saw too many (or more than expected) people were going to get an A. so he writes a difficult final to slide some people. pathetic. This is how he explained one of the theorems in class: "IT just makes sense!"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?(got B)
Before the final my average test score was a low C but i got A on the final and i got A in the class. He actually drop two of your lowest tests if you got an A on the final. He is actually not difficult just work hard
Before the final my average test score was a low C but i got A on the final and i got A in the class. He actually drop two of your lowest tests if you got an A on the final. He is actually not difficult just work hard
I think he is nice. He didn't give us as much hw as another MAtth teacher. I am just studyin his class fall 08 and i feel comfortable. He teaches sth unclear, but he will tell you what is goin to be on the test. Besides, do not hesitate to ask him what you do not understand, he will answer you immediately or in his office.
ridiculous man. this is the first class i have ever dropped and the main reason i dropped was because of the teacher. he did not do 1 problem correctly on the board and got sde tracked every 2 minutes
The idiot doesn't know how to teach. He goes on and tells random stories- humorless stories with no significant meaning. Tests would be partially taken points off for forgotten symbols or skip a step. He doesn't answer questions, and even give attitude. I got a B thru hard work n mathxl. The idiot messed up my 40. I should've dropped when I could.
The worst math teacher I have had.Ever.I am a math major. He does not know how to teach.I had to read the sections myself or go to a tutor to understand.Tests are 95% grade and many points are taken off for tiny mistakes.Only ten questions on each test because he's too lazy to grade more questions.Ruined my GPA.Complain to school if you agree!I did.
PROFESSOR Schubert....PREPARE FOR CLASS PLEASE, TEACH ME SOMETHING PLEASE....PLEASE
The worst math teacher ever. He does not lecture, he babbles. He easily gets confused by himself and needs his student to constantly point out his mistakes. Crazily strict marking for tests, he will deduct pointed for "mistakes" like you do not shade your graph dark enough. To be able to ace this class, your math ability have to reach 5A.
The only reason why I owned this class was because I already took Pre Calc in High School. But honestly, if I learned pre calc from this guy...I would've failed. He does not teach, he just talks and talks..and talks...and his test are hard/he's picky as hell. So be careful...if you know the math, then he's fine. if not, DROP
He loves to talk... alot! slightly entertaining, but you will probabaly struggle if you are leraning the subject for the first time. If you dont know the stuff, do youself a favor and run.
he's a good professor, for calc though. he usually helps out during his spare time and offers one-on-one attention for the class. really respectable guy...but you have to study hard to get a good grade. just work hard and do homework. that's key
This teacher is ok. I know most people who have taken his classes are really angry with his ways of teaching. But in my opinion, if you work hard yourself, then there shouldn't be a problem of not passing his class. This is my first time learning precalculus and I've aced all 5 of his tests and the final, even though he's picky on small mistakes.
The man should not be allowed to teach...
A very bad teacher. Extremely lazy. Does not know enough of the subject matter he's teaching. Ultimately stupid!!!
Worst teacher I have ever had. He had no idea what he was doing and said so on a regular basis. Never prepared for class, apologized about it, but never prepared for class. Did not have the teachers edition of the book and could not complete many of the problems himself or tell if the students solution was correct. Insults students.
Very difficult professor. I wouldn't recommend taking a class from him unless you are already familiar with the subject. He goes too fast, doesn't give many examples, skips 1st part of each chpt, uses hardest hw questions 4 tests and is a picky grader! Lazy, not willing to help or explain things after class. I dropped it and even spoke w/ the dean.
i like this professor, he was very helpful, grade is easy. whatever u get C during the semester. if u get A in final. u'r gonna get A the semester..
Hes a great guy...he seems to approach the class differntly based off what I read. He seems to really want you to do well and the hw and lectures are good he goes over everything you ask him too and will make sure you get it.
don't wast your time to get a W, never ever ever take his class, trust me!
those who complained about 1. not having the teacher's addition- it's the same as the regular one. I have both. 2. not being helpful, ask a question then. 3. yeah he's not perfect nor the best teacher but you can still learn and do well just work. 4. he's a sweet person not any kind of mean 5. just make sure you do the homework-tests like homework
Everyone swears like Schubert is the worst, but after getting other math teachers, he wasn't that bad. He's neat with notes, might get off topic, but lets u out early sometimes. He's a good teacher, teaches you diff. methods and shows u how. Just dnt take the night classes cuz he can get kinda crabby.
He gets sidetracked a lot with his humorless stories and he bursts into a random frenzy of laughter. Weird. Anyway, his tests are tricky so study. The only reason im getting a B+ at the moment is because i knew some of this stuff and i study at home. Avoid this lunatic if possible. I hope he reads this. Old geezer.
Took him for 5a then droped. Hes a pretty good teacher at explaining things; however the downside to him is that he doesnt prepare you for tests. The problems he gives on homework and lecture are easy/medium. However on tests he boosts it up to tricky trig, absolute value, radical problems which cant be done with the time given. Got D+ C- on test
he lets us go after break. attendance taken at beginning of class. gets side tracked VERY VERY easily. students help 'remind' him how to do problems. i would not take this professor again.
Grades hard on tests even simple mistakes he will mark off on. Homework means nothing towards your grade mostly test based. Lots of word problems assigned although they can be put on board for EC but they show up on tests also. Most people dropped the class and he cant really teach. He cant do simple problems on the board without students help.
He is a really sweet guy. Sometimes can get hard on grading the tests. I don't agree with the other reviews. People seem to have forgotten that this is college and that you need to work hard for your grades. He offers help on homework problems after class and really is a helpful teacher. Sure he sometimes makes mistakes, but who doesn't? He's good
He is by far the worst teacher iv ever had! This guy should have never choosen this profession. I dropped his class after only being there for a week. He didn't give the class any instruction, or examples, or or formulas. All he did was do hw problems the whole class time. If you want to pass math 131 DO NOT take shubert!!!
Usually he is nice enough to talk on and on about some hilariously off-topic subject. But he does all the easy examples on the board and leaves the harder stuff in each section for us to puzzle over. That's what made his class so miserable. But if you can wrestle problems on your own pretty well, then he'll be fine. I got a B.
He has little conceptual understanding of the materials he teaches. He gives you formulas and teaches by memory of over decades of teaching, and he still makes mistakes on problems. Does not grade fairly on tests. You either get full credit or lose a lot of points. You can only forget how to do a problem or two to escape with an A in the class.
At the end of the course, he lends past tests for students to xerox and study because he claims to design finals based on them. Well, don't be surprised if you show up on finals day and stare into strangest problems you've ever seen. Each new test he administers is filled with problems that have tricked average students the most. You've been warned
He's seems like a nice old guy when he lectures or answers individual questions, but not for 1 second did I not experience any stress in his class. Even though I got away with an A, I always sat in class wondering how many times he was going to write -4 or -6 on my tests for little careless mistakes. We shouldn't be punished for that kind of error!
Hard teacher,but he is kind.
Because of this dude, I develeped the skill of self-studying.....
Besides the fact that he may drift off into one of his off the subject stories during lectures... he's overall a pretty easy-going, helpful professor. His lectures are good and his sense of humor helps drown some of the dullness synonymous with learning math. He grades meticulously on his tests, but provides plenty of extra credit opportunities.
I understand why most students give him a low rating; however, math is a hard topic in general. This professor gives every opportunity for you to succeed. Asks questions, and he'll answer them! he is very accommodating and genuinely wants you to succeed. Just do basics - come to class and do the hw! and you'll get the grade you deserve.
Professor Schubert is not that bad of a teacher! The math may seem a little challenging to students, however his grading system is extremely fair and simple. Hw collected once a week for pts, 1 test gets dropped, and the final counts as 2 tests.. He gives a lot of time/opportunity to ask questions, and he's a pretty chipper&friendly person!
This class is terrible. he doesnt even TEACH. he just reviews homework and does a couple sample questions. on tests, he goes on a marking rampage and takes off so many points. I WARN YOU. this class is terrible. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't like to take suggestions from the students and instead argues with them. He ridiculously takes of points on the test for (e.g) not drawing a line straight enough for the graphs, didn't place "g(x)" in one part of your work so you get 3 points marked off even though your answer is correct.
Not as bad as everyone says. He goes off topic at times, but it's usually funny w/o him knowing it.. Do the hw, and you always get to ask q's the next class.. He's a little picky when grading tests, but how he derives your grade is simple and pretty fair (5 tests, worst is dropped, do ur hw, and study ur past tests for the final).
DO NOT TAKE HIM. for him it doesnt matter if you get the correct answer. what matters is HOW YOU WRITE UR ANSWER. I once answered all of the Qs on the test correctly but received a C+ for not writing "x=", didnt draw a perfect circle, plaing the absolute sign incorrectly etc. its like taking grammar for math.
Schubert is chill. He digresses a little at times which can be a little bit of a drag but in general he is a nice person who lectures about the subject well, makes very little mistakes, will answer questions if you talk personally, gives simple straight to the point tests, explains exactly what he wants, and is sometimes pretty funny
This professor is extremely hard and unfair. I took him for summer and his test are unfair and his grading is unreasonable. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone.
Do not take this professor. He is very hard and his exams are unfair.(He is an unfair grader!!) Also, you do not learn anything.(took class in summer)
currently taking him, just dropped his class, grading is not fair.
Take him, he is extremely helpful and very good and fair grade system.. take him, you won't regret!!
A very nice and helpful! He tries his best to help his students and even drops two tests. Though, sometimes he may not be clear in lecture you can ask him to clarify and he will explain it very well knowing your question! Just be sure to do your homework to ask questions at class and you will be fine. Goodluck with his class :D
He is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting. His class helps you learn. To get A in his class, you need to pay attention in class, do homework, and review 'test' questions that he suggests. Before every test, do all problems in your study guide 3 times.
He's not as bad as everyone says. His lectures are pretty straightforward and the tests are easy for the most part (drops the lowest one). He also helps you with the homework problems and is willing to stay after class to help. Just do the work/study and you'll be fine.
Nice person. Mediocre professor.
This man cannot teach at all. I've tried to ask him for help after class and he doesn't explain anything well. He also gives really challenging tests. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
This guy is awful. He's got a total math brain and can only think in terms of math, which will make the class difficult for those not proficient in math. His lectures are nonsense as he can hardly ever finish a thought and the boy needs a break from math.
bad teacher
Absolutely the worst math teacher ever. DO NOT take him because he will bore you to death. So much homework and teaching style horrible. If you want to take him make sure he is the ONLY class you take if you want to survive!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.He does not know howto teach even i think he knows math really well he just doesnt know how to explain.Gives you hw that that is due daliy and that you have to do online.Wat he teaches yu in class and wat he gives u for hw is not on the test.If u want a good grade either take another teacher
i agree that he is nice but he is not good at teaching.. he seemed like he didnt prepare for teh class. if you are taking calc. then you need someone who teaches really well. who motives u. so dont take him if you are not good at calc. also.. socrates is really good!
if you do not do well in math do not..take..he is the most confusing teacher i have ever taken. its wierd how many poeple have commented on him...hprrible teacher...
ten problems on the test. each 10 pts. easy problems but you need to understand the concept in order to solve it. no study guide is given. if ur good at math then take it.
He is an odd guy, clearly very intelligent. He should spend more time teaching & reviewing when there is time at the end of class but he thinks that we all find it boring to review. Too many un-math-related personal stories. Read the chapter before the class. We would've benefited from a syllabus to plan for tests. Hard grader, no curve!
Unorganized and stubborn. Overall an easy class to pass, but makes test extremely difficult. You will need to read the book, because he does not teach with clarity. Find a better professor if you can.
He is nice and helpful, but his lectures are sometimes off tangent and may confuses students. Must read book and use his lecture notes = good grade. I don't recommend to take him if you don't have a firm foundation in math. Extra credits are offered. Drop lowest test. He is easy to talk to and very helpful if you visit him during his office hours.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! HARDEST PROFESSOR EVER! Why I don't recommend you to take : 1. EXPLANATION UNCLEAR! 2. VERY HARD EXAM! 3. NOT HELPFUL. JUST IGNORE HIS CLASS, UNLESS ITS YOUR LAST RESORT
He's nice and the class wasn't as bad as how the other comments described. The tests are actually pretty easy.
Best math teacher i ever seem in PCC, this is my sec time taking his math class, before that i took his Math 7A, and right now i am going to take his math 5B in the spring. even though his rating was low, but seems i know him, i am highly suggest any of u wants to get a A in math take his class.
He is the worst teacher I've met. He seems that he doesn't know math, he is not knowledgeable and ridiculous...He doesn't know what is the universal low in math.
Easy proffesor. doesn't reallly teach in great detail. I was lucky enough to know the material from high school. He is funny and chill but not the best teacher to learn from if you are new to the subject.
Professor Schubert definitely has a distinct style of teaching. He teaches calculus and will prepare you for it with a lot of shortcuts! He enjoys sharing stories during evening class which makes it a very laidback experience. He drops lowest scored tests, gives loads of extra credit, and very attentive to questions. Ask for help and he will ! GL
Idk what these guys are saying but this professor is terrible. He is not clear with his lectures, confuses himself and in turn, students suffer. He was cool until he started talking about me and making me a rep for Mexican culture. Passed with B since i took calc in high school
He is pretty quirky like everyone says, and not the best at teaching clearly. But he obviously enjoys it and wants his students to succeed. Put in the work and you will be fine.
Take his class because it is SO EASY. He is like a grandpa, randomly talks about other stuff but would complete his lecture on time. His class is easy going and very relaxing. A bunch of extra credits on attendance and even on just turning hw on time. Drops the lowest test and would triple the final IF you get a grade above your average grade.
He is a strange man. I had a hard time following the class because of his constant tangents about how he isn't a raci st and how beautiful the ethnic girls in the class were. He seemed to get frustrated with students who didn't understand his explanations and he was unable to answer a lot of my questions. Avoid his classes if possible
Very Humerous! Not your normal professor as he is strange in many aspects. He definitely keeps you attentive however with stories and examples. As long as you read some of the book you will not get lost with his examples. Take notes and look at your textbook once in a while. He makes it fun to attend class.
I wish I had listened to RateMyProfessor…all of the bad reviews are spot on. Rants about his life. Extremely confusing, sporadic lectures that are impossible to decipher into a concise message. And yet, harsh grader and brief to answer your questions. For your own sake WAIT if you have to, DO NOT take this man. And he's not a "grandpa", he's mean.
Beware!!! Listen to my comment, I took his class for summer and the class started with 40 people and ended with 7 people and only 3 of them passed at the end, that explains it all. His lecture is not clear, his tests are super hard, and it took him 2 hours to explain a homework problem and at the end he couldn't figure out how to do it.
took his class during spring. he is a horrible teacher. his tests are hard as hell, his lectures are confusing and he tends to go of topic sometimes. the only way you'll pass if you know the concept, but if you don't, you'll have horrible time in his class like i did. AGAIN HORRIBLE TEACHER! DON'T TAKE HIM! BELIEVE MY WORDS AND EVERYONE ELSES!!!!!
Don't take this class if you struggle with math. He teaches pretty advanced concepts and isn't the best at explaining but if you're good at math chances are you'll be able to keep up. He tells you what will be on the test and shows examples.
In short this guy does frequently give tests and quizzes but he is extremely helpful, is easy to talk to, and always there to answer questions during and after class. He is very down to earth & one of the coolest teachers you will meet.
He's a the best Math 7B professor I've ever had. Do hw,ask questions and go to class you will pass. Down to earth guy, really funny professor.
I love this professor! He tells you what's gonna be on the test and his lectures are very interesting. He likes to keep the class light and easy! He teaches you many short cuts and skips sections that you won't need in higher classes. He always goes over the homework and solves questions you couldn't do. Super helpful! Take him!
DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED!! He will teach you what you need to know! Came into his class with a negative attitude about his teaching, I WAS WRONG! He knows his stuff, lectures are clear& he is funny! You have questions? HE WILL ANSWER. DO HW.& ASK QUESTIONS!! GREAT PROFESSOR! HE MIGHT BE EASY OR NOT THAT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH ARE U WILLING TO LEARN
He teaches advance concepts,if you're good at math TAKE HIM. He will challenge you.
Nitpicky, arbitrary, confused. I find his grading method suspect. I'm an A student, I do the homework and consistently perform very well, according to his methods, and yet I received a C+ on the first exam for semantic "mistakes"- straight from his blackboard. He will admit no wrongdoing, despite my consistently correct answers and reasoning. Done.
Got my first exam from him and received a B . Do the homework, exams questions are just like the hw.
Grades very harshly on tests. If your graph is "too fuzzy," he will take off 5 points out of the 10 points the original problem was worth. The tests are based on homework. He gets distracted SO DARN EASILY. One moment he is talking about graphing a function, then it goes to how he saw this nurse one time at the hospital, etc.
2ND time taking calculus. He's an awesome Professor, teaching style is different but manageable, took him for calculus during summer 1 first time taking him. He's always excited for each lecture . Tough grader and tough final. Overall quality is great, test are tough which explains his extra credit. Teaches ADVANCED CONCEPTS of CALCULUS.
Mr. Schubert will lead the class onto unrelated tangents about his life that dilute your concentration. He lacks confidence during instruction and takes on an almost pitiful demeanor, virtually "begging" the class to like him as a person. I had to go onto YouTube everyday after class for further clarification over what we were supposed to cover.
I can see how some people have a hard time in his classes. Just attend every class and pay attentiontake notes on how to solve each problem. Do EVERY HW when it's assigned and then when you study for the test, do EVERY PROBLEM all over again. Make sure you understand how to do each problem as well. If you understand the HW, this class will be easy
Schubert teaches Math 5A than 7A and 7B. He is very clear and helpful. He will always be there for you if you need help.
Prof. Schubert cannot teach at all. On the first day back to class, he went right into a lecture and wrote a problem on the board and just solved it without explaining anything. I'm usually a good math student, but he is a terrible teacher. He always goes off track with some stupid story so it's hard to focus. Dropped the class.
Never had the time to thank this awesome professor. SCHUBERT IS THE GREATEST. I'M finishing up my MATH 10 class and I couldn't have done it without him. Teaching style is different but managable. He goes through difficult concepts but manages to deliver them with great feedback. He made me convert to a math major. Thanks Schubert!
Definitely one of the worst math professors I've ever met. Absolutely rude & disrespectful and does not care about his student. His lectures are horrible
He is great at math. He's terrible at teaching. He goes back on his own statements, "You won't need to show this work on the test" And then performing a complete 180 by the end of class. I now know more about his School History and his sons college experience than I do about Calculus. Rambling and made me hate math. He made it impossible to learn.
NOT RECOMENDED AT ALL
lectures are not written in advance. asks students for confirmation if he did problem correct. Goes on tangents. Explanation of homework is not clear and concise
SO many students drop his classes and PCC haven't realized that students DON'T want to take him! They should fire him or he will keep hurting students' GPA and wasting their time and money by making them drop his classes. He takes a lot of points off on the simplest mistakes and asks very hard questions on the exams. Worst experience ever.
His grading system seems to confuse people, but it's set up in your favor. HW can be turned in early for extra points or on exam day so it's flexible. Extra credit is available after each test too. Study guides are based on HW. He also reviews before each test (except for the final which is based on past exams). Put in time and it's easy.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my life. I have never received anything worse than a B in a class & I had to drop this class because I was going to get an F. He has no confidence in his knowledge of calculus, always asking the students if he's doing the problem right. Tests are extremely hard and he marks off points for tiny, insignificant mistakes.
He doesn't tell you how he grades because he says it won't make sense, but really, he grades totally in your favor. If you complete the homework on time, always make class, do the extra credit on the board after every test, you can basically earn anywhere between a half to full letter grade by those 3 things.
Compared with other professors, he is there to hurt your GPA. Lots of homework and tests on the hardest material. Overloads you with information and is so, I mean so much picky and is a tough grader.
I took him for Math131 and I got an A! Listened in his class and was easily able to do the hw that he assigned! and wala!
Prof. Schubert is my favorite professor. He explains very well in class and he is so nice. My class ask a lot of questions when we don't understand the homework and he always answer it. Sometimes he shows several ways to do it and we get to choose which way we want to do it. All we need to do in order to get good grades in his class is by doing hw.
This class is very easy. Yes, he goes off on tangents, but when he actually teaches math, he MAKES SURE you understand. He will drop 5 quizzes and 1 test or all 15 quizzes. If you ace the final he'll drop another test. I really should have been in 131 but I've noticed for struggling students, he ensures everyone is taken care of before moving on.
Mr. Schubert is really chill and doesn't mark you if you arrive late or leave early. Attend class and get attendance credit. Turn in homework by the next class period and get extra credit. Do the extra credit opportunities after the tests. Schubert always asks us if we have any questions on the hw. Understand all your hw and it should be an easy A.
Mr. Schubert is so nice! He is a bit old and always says "treat me like grandpa" because he forgets things sometimes. He really cares about his students he wants the best grade for them! Offers lots of extra credit, drops worst 5 quizzes. If you ask questions he tries his best to make sure you understand. He's very funny and awesome!
He is a tough grader and was sometimes unclear about what exactly he wanted on the tests.
bad: wastes class time. struggles to explain concepts. struggles to answer questions. harsh grader for minor mistakes. stresses memorization over understanding. graded class down on test for missing things he forgot to teach. good: extra credit. test questions similar to homework. he seems nice just not a great teacher.
He's straight forward with regards to what will appear on the tests. All 5 tests are based on homework, and final is based on the tests, so no surprise there as long as you do all your homework and understand the material. I put in the effort and got an A. He is at times unnecessarily self-deprecating. Needs more confidence as a person & instructor
This a kind man who cares about his students succeeding. You have to do your part and put the effort in. He is always willing to go over questions. I appreciate how he slowed down the lecture when covering material the class was having difficulty understanding. Do your homework and your will do well on his tests.
Just finished the winter course with professor Schubert! I probably won't pass but it is not his fault! The way he organizes class and deadlines are perfect. NO hw collected 2 days prior to test. And only material from 2 days prior to the test is covered it gives you time to study. Wish I had to work less, I would've gotten an A perhaps :(
I took him for 125 and now I;m taking him for 131. He will answer all of your questions, and creates an environment where it's okay to ask for help even if the problem seems kinda easy. He will slow the lectures down if the class doesn't get it or if you don't get anything he'll personally help you. He offers easy xc and drops tests. Take him :)
he's very sarcastic when you ask a question and will humiliate you, also he is prejudice towards certain races
No matter how hard you study, he will push you down with his tough grading. He is super picky and will lower your GPA. Graduated with an AS from PCC believing that he is the hardest teacher ever.
Avoid him. Points off test for missing small details
Professor Schubert is awesome! If you pay attention in class and do his assignments, you'll get an A.
Never got the final back. Infuriating class from start to finish. Takes off points for silly reasons.
Took his class for 131 & barely passed. Idk why I decided to take him for college Algebra ,its useless because he teaches you his way and expects you to know all the formulas already. He makes fun of the students and rants in class instead of doing lectures. He gives very few test thats why I took his class but he doesnt curve grades. Hes awful!
This has been my worst teacher in my time at PCC. Schubert does not teach well at all. He does all the problems and lectures with his back to the class and by the time he turns around, he's completed the whole problem and blocked it. Anytime someone asks for help he either says, you should of learned it in the last math or go to tutoring. TERRIBLE!
Tbh his teaching is not that good. He can't explain concepts well and it is confusing even to me as a student who have taken calculus before. But he is very organized in his class and test schedules. He give extra credits. Has a lot of hw to do. Tests are not too difficult. Wouldn't recommend taking him if you don't already know the materials.
He is an old man. He makes lectures boring and gives only a limited amount of extra credit to a few students. He gives too much homework problems to do. He makes mistakes that involves math and sitting on his own glasses (Best Moment of his Class). He is disrespectful. He takes points off small details. He makes people feel bad. He shouldn't teach
Honestly, one of the worst experiences Ive had with a professor in general. As a person, hes a good guy but when it comes to teaching the class and grading not so much. Very specific on his grading and will deduct points for missing a lim or parenthesis or something minor. No study guides. Gives hardest version of questions on test.
Worst teacher Ive ever take in my life. Strict on grading, no matter how hard you try he will always find some problem to lower your grade. WORST TEACHER EVER
His grading is terrible, most of the people in my class are complaining already. Honestly feels like he lacks the compassion because he marks everything off even if your answers are right. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
He refuses to use Canvas or email so contacting him outside of class is a hassle. He rarely takes time to explain the lessons so he almost expects you to know what he's doing. It's honestly easier to learn from the textbook than from his lectures. His tests seem simple but his grading makes it difficult. Just horrible and difficult.
This professor is a very hard grader, points are taken off tests because of not writing parenthesis, or an equal sign. He is very disrespectful, the very first day of school he told us he was only trying to help and that we could look at him as our favorite grandpa, three weeks later he refused to answer questions. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM!!
Schubert's Math 5A class was difficult. He expects you to know everything that he's teaching already. He works on problems on the board and basically solves it & talks to himself and asks the class if what he was doing was right and that's basically the whole lecture. He doesn't teach you how to solve the problem or say why he's solving it that way
Got to be the worst professor at PCC. His lectures are so boring, I would actually find it more entertaining to watch paint dry on the wall. And his tests are ridiculous. I feel bad whoever is taking him next semester, they don't know what their signing up for - AVOID this guy.
I took this class for my major for fall semester. Hes really funny in the beginning like what all Professors will do. When he lecture, someone ask questions, he would somehow answer it but the student still dont get it. I would rate more but the characters are limited. My advice is that if youre majoring math and want good grade then avoid him.
He assigns a lot of homework and the 5 tests plus the final are the most important to your grade. He drops the worst test score and doubles the points of the final to help you boost your grade up. He has a different style of grading so be sure to ask questions early on.
Schubert teaches slow enough for everyone to understand and is easily approachable to ask questions. He doesn't use Canvas and at times, he would go on a tangent and talk about his personal life stories; nonetheless, I recommend to take him for Math3!
TAKE HIM ONLY IF ur taking this class online. I took him couple years ago and failed the class then retook him online this summer and got an A! He posts all lectures on canvas and they help a ton during quizzes and exams- which he gives 24 hrs for. Very tough grader so just triple check ur work before submitting it. A lot of HW but its 10% EC!
Nice guy, but GOD does he grade hard. If it was in person I would collapse from the work load. It's worth it because I learned the material. Like learned learned. Online is super flexible, doesn't mandate attendance. If you do the homework on pace, use it for the weekly quizzes, & use the textbook, you'll get an A. He drops 3 lowest.
One of the worst professors at PCC. Teaching style is terrible and his notes dont correlate to the homework, quizzes, or tests. From using the equations he has taught us I have figured out that he is a poo poo teacher and that is the only equation I was able to figure out while taking his class. Dont take this class/professor if you want a future
He doesn't provide feedback on the quizzes/test, so if you get something wrong, which you most likely will with how strict of a grader he is, it feels extremely bad. All he does for lectures are homework problems and he offers no real guidance for students. If you want an A, it'll be really difficult depending on your own math skills.
