He's very fair in giving grades because he understands how hard it is to learn logic for some people. The class is not that interesting, but he does his best for students to get through it. Like a student, he doesn't particularly want to be there sometimes, so class usually lets out early.
cool teacher. really cute. Looks like a student. class can b boring but he knows it and sometimes lets us out early. I wish I could take more classes with him but in something not math like.
I love him, he's hot and i love the way he teaches!
Beautiful man, I couldn't help but fall in love with the man. He's a really good teacher, does the best to help you pass. He is funny in a sarcastic, moody way. I recommend this class, it was very helpful and fun.
Very good professor, he loves to teach everybody as simple as possible, if you read book and do the homework, you will get an A.
extremly recommended!!he is my favorite professor in PCC. guys dont hesitate to take his class. easy A!!
You can tell he is smart from the way he speaks. Clear lecture, simple tests. TAKE HIM!!
I though he would be easy but he wasn't He actually told us that all his comments were written by him. Wow he is very interesting but very hard. right now there are only 8 people left in his class. Don't take him.
Great professor; very clear and precise on what he wants from you. Assignments and exams are very easy and they follow the homework. He gives a review right before the exam to help you out. He's very straight forward and doesn't like BS, so just be forthright with him. Great and easy course to take instead of ENGL 1C.
4 tests (study guides provided), 2 essays (which you can totally bs), & some hw. Teaches in a straightforward manner. He cracks jokes & tries to make the class less boring. Can be strict at times. Gives out extra credit & is willing to help the students out. I studied for about 3 hours before each test & got an A in the class. Totally recommend.
This is the best professor I have had at Pasadena City College. His class is challenging but he tells you what is expected of you. As long as you read the book, do the homework and study the quizes before the tests, you should be good. The reason I got a B is because he grades the papers very hard.
Honestly if you think he's hard, you shouldn't be in college. He gives a TON of extra credit per chapter and his tests are exactly what's on the homework/practice quizzes. Super easy, he keeps the class fun with his humor. TAKE HIM!
I'll be very honest here because I feel like they were all written by him, as one student said. I took his phil 1 class and I have always been a straight A student, but I worked my butt off and still managed to get a B. I probably learned more about his life than philosophy, and although he is funny, his exams are all essays, closed book¬es.
Very straight forward professor, clear in what he expects; interesting lecturer, relates everything to current life and is super funny. If you read the book, listen in class, write according to the structure he tells you to- you'll get an A.
Favorite professor. His lectures are very clear, only gives you HW that will directly benefit you in test prep. Tests are exactly the way he tells you and the way he prepares you for them.
What I liked about Prof. Singer was that he was really straightforward. The only thing that was graded in this class were the tests. I would recommend taking his class. Unless you aren't going to attend or do the hmwk, since neither is mandatory. If you think you can get away with not showing up, don't waste your time because you won't pass!!
Best and coolest professor ever. He is super easy if you follow his study plans. Failed logic before taking him. He used the same text and went over the same stuff. With the other professor, I was just like wut??? But professor singer makes it easy with practice. He's cool.
Chill and funny prof. His tests are not hard at all if you do the hw, so it's easy to get an A. He's lenient on grading the papers, in my opinion; you can bs them. If you just want to easily fulfill the critical thinking part of GE then take this class with him. If you want a rigorous class, then he's not right for you. Overall, great prof.
VERY GOOD PROF. MEAN LOOKING BUT VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD ! DONT BE INTIMIDATED ON THE FIRST DAY! GRADING IS VERY FAIR , LOVE HIM! PS ATTRACTIVE GUY
Best professor I've had at PCC. Besides teaching philosophy, he taught me study skills that I had been struggling with personally. Dr. Singer's mantra is 1. read the book before class 2. take good notes. 3. ask questions. 4. prepare for the exam. 5. seek extra help if needed. It sounds simple but it worked for me in other classes too.
I took Professor Singer for Logic, and he was fantastic. He's not scared to let you know if you mess up, but he's very fair. He makes lectures pass quickly. Funny, and if you like cars you'll appreciate more of his jokes and examples. Clear, helpful, and lets you know exactly what you need to do to pass. Would take again and recommend to all.
Professor Singer is hilarious! Do not be intimidated by him on the first day; he looks mean but he's actually a funny and chill professor. He tells you what will be on the test and if you study and there for all the classes, you'll definitely pass his class. He relates his material to everyday life, so easy to get. I would definitely take him again
Professor Singer does look like a mean guy, but once he starts talking he's hilarious! Gives every day examples and relates them to philosophy. Not many tests, just study and you'll be fine. He's cute in a nerdy way but he's def a cutie.
Very clear grading criteria, the tests were easy if you read the book. You need to pay attention in class in order to actually learn and pass. He is a great teacher compared to many other philosophy teachers. He is very clear with his lectures and straightforward. Assigns homework but not collected. But doing it is great practice.
If you just follow the directions professor Singer gives in class, you will pass his class. I have taken his introduction course and his critical thinking course. Both classes were based on reading the text, practicing the work that will be on the test, and following up those skills throughout the class. Very was straight forward. Very Handsome!
Very straightforward and clear of his expectations. Uses real world examples to make the material easier to understand. To pass: read text, pay attention in lecture, due homework. The homeworktext usually took me 60 minutes to complete (summer session). You can afford to miss class occassionally. Everything on the test is straight from the book.
I took Dr. Singer for both Phil and Rel. He tells you what is going to be on the exam and how it will be graded before the exam. A lot of people in my class did not read the readings, did not pay attention to what he said would be on the exam, and then they complained that the class was too hard but it wasnt if you did the work. Excellent prof IMO!
Prof. Singer's class is very well organized. I finished my BA in Soc. I started at PCC, and I would say that Singer helped me succeed more than any other prof. I had with my study skills, critical thinking and with my writing skills. He is also much cooler than any of the other profs. I dealt with at PCC or CSUN as a person and his overall style.
If you need a philo class for your general ed then this professor is the one to take it with. Hw is optional (does not check but does go over), quizzes are test from previous semesters, and lectures are entertaining enough to stay through to the end. You WILL need the book and you WILL need to read so look forward to that. Pretty chill professor.
I just finished this class last night and dr. Singer is the best professor I have had at PCC. If you just follow the class by reading, doing the homework he assigns, and studying from the test, it's easy to do well. His papers are harder but he gives his grading criteria. If you follow it, you'll do good. Just follow along and do the work!
Best professor I had thus far. He is hilarious and he knows it! The grading criteria is fair and makes you interested in the subject. Homework is assigned, but not graded. Would definately take again if I had the chance!
Professor is clear and direct. Grade is based just on tests and 2 essays. The essays aren't hard to write as he gives you the layout and criteria. He also gives a quiz before each test. The tests are the same format as the quiz. Quiz aren't part of grade. A lot of tests questions comes from reading ex, hw, and quiz. There is extra credit on test.
Professor Singer makes Phil 25 class ever so easy. Your grade is based on 4 tests and 2 essays, and professor Singer even gives you the previous exams and the answers a week before your exam. Essays are very easy as well. The topic may seem confusing at first, but professor Singer makes it clear for you. Easy A guaranteed if you have taken Logic.
Professor Singer is an excellent professor who really knows his stuff. As an ESL student from China, I must say you HAVE TO be at college level in English Writing as the pre-requisite demands to pass this class. I had trouble with the 2 papers, which Professor Singer grades VERY closely. Make sure to turn in high quality work to him and it'll be OK
Dr. Singer is a clear professor. If U read the materials, you will notice they show up on da test. If U do the homework, you will notice it is the same style as da test. If U study his quizzes, the same type of questions show up on da test. Just make sure you turn in a FINAL draft on da paper. He grades the paper HARD! Prof. Singer is a veterano 3
I think there's a clear distinction in easiness between his Philo 25 and Philo 1 class. Although he is definitely a great professor that gives amazing lectures and funny ones too, his Philo 1 class is no joke. The way he grades his tests is pretty strict and can take off points if you unfortunately have naturally messy handwriting. Avg grade: B
Prof. Singer is an all around cool dude, oozing with wisdom, laughs, and sanity. He is extremely knowledgable and can talk all class about philosophical examples all around us. He's a pretty tough grader. He gave 3 essay tests: I got a B, B, then A. Got an A in the class. His concise grading made me extremely thoughtful about my writing and ideas.
best professor i've had. if u read and keep up + prepare 4 tests, class is straight forward. if u read the syllabus, you can see how 2 calculate ur grade + when stuff is happening/due. singer reviews before the test alot. + i love his style. easy to pay attention to such a cute prof. also funny, so lectures aren't just boring slideshows.
As a visiting student here for summer classes (I go to UC Berkeley in fall/spring semesters),I'll comment that prof. Singer is a UC level and even better prof. His lectures are top notch but maybe a little over the head of the average PCC student. He should be teaching at Berkeley!
His class is super straight forward. All you have to do is read the textbook and do the exercise problems that he assigns. He also gives quizzes that don't count towards your grade but is pretty much identical to the test. His class is based only on 4 exams but he practically gives you the a practice exam before each one. He is also super funny!!!
Gives good lectures but goes on tangents (albeit, relevant tangents) which bugged me. Made sense of what we was teaching and got good use of the text. Tests were straightforward, formatting the written responses properly are very important. Enjoyable class.
I've taken professor Singer for three classes now and honestly you need to read and do the homework to understand him in class because he teaches to the prepared student. I got a B the first time I took him but after I realised that his examples in lecture mirror the readings an prepare you for the tests I'd just do all the work and get As.
Singer is a great, fun, nerdy teacher who has a real passion for his Logic class. I took him for a summer course and it was really easy to keep up with the class. All of the work he gives matters and some questions from hw and quizes will be on the test. He wont BS you with stuff you dont know or trick questions. I strongly reccomend him.
He explained things fairly well, although he was somewhat unsympathetic when it came to personal issues, and seemed almost bitter toward students at points. I found him to be intimidating and not a professor that I felt comfortable around and happy to see. However, from the standpoint of teaching, he was good and the class is very straightforward.
Just wrapped dr. Singer's logic class. Super straight forward no BS class but make sure to do the homework he assigns and follow all directions. I got a B because I didn't stick to all the homework assignments. An A is attainable if you do all the reading and homework though. Excellent lectures. Clear homework. Good class.
Mr. Singer is super explicit and very clear at grading and lecturing. He will not hold you hand but he will treat you as an equal. He know his material very well and tell many cool stories. You'll enjoy going to class. I highly recommend him.
I was on my phone all class and he didn't care, i love these kind of teachers because they know its your responsibility, as long as you don't distract anyone else its all good. Pretty straight forward testing, excellent lectures, pretty funny dude. Take this professor if you can.
Third time taking him.. best prof
Honestly this was the BEST PROFESSOR I have ever had in my whole educational career. He is an amazing teacher and will explain the material clear and concisely and if you have additional questions he is very approachable. TAKE HIM if you want to learn and have a good laugh in class
For the phil 25 you have to turn in polished work for the paper or you will get docked points heavily. Dr. Singer has high expectations in regards to grammar, wording, spelling, punctuation, and etc. because of the prerequisite for the class. If you are not good at this seek help before you turn in a draft or pay the price. This is from experience.
Singer was an amazing professor. I took him over winter and it took me a while to get into the swing of his class--took me hours to do the readings at first. Then I did readings around the readings, talked to him about the lectures and used YouTube explanation videos and I started doing really well. He's passionate, funny, and really cool/nerdy.
Professor Singer is such a cool dude. The way he related philosophy to his life and everyday life in general allows you to better relate to the subject and see its practically. As a visiting student at PCC for the summer session, I can confidently say that Professor Singer is a UC level professor and he will definitely prepare you for UC level work
really really really cool guy. tests are super easy, identical to the quizzes you do before hand. papers aren't a joke-he grades them hard, very picky. Overall easy class definitely would take again. he tries to make it interesting and he's really funny.
Grading Criteria: Crystal Clear. Expectations are given in advance and test materials are also directly explained. Any time i had a question, it was cleared up in Office Hours. This is a writing test type class. No multiple choice or T/F. All Essays. The feedback made me a better writer and the clear grading made an A attainable with hard work.
do the hw. he goes over it all in class. once i realized the test is like the hw i did all the hw before class and did better on the exams. he grades the papers hard. can't have wording/grammar/structure mistakes at all. must turn in an almost perfect paper to score over a 90. he gave out a half dozen 0s on the paper to people who turned in junk.
hilarious professor. very well organized and explains concepts very well as he makes them easy to relate to everyday life. really chill and straight-forward dude. absolutely funny. easily one of my favorites
I took professor Singer at CSULA and then came to PCC to take more classes with him towards my major. His PCC classes are equal to his CSULA classes, which is to say demanding but transparent in regards to his grading criteria and expectations of you read and pay attention. The class is very clear if you follow along with the material closely.
Best professor! Made the class fun and interesting! Take him you won't regret it and he is hilarious!! He gives you an open book quiz that's not graded, as a review for the test. The tests pretty similar to the quizzes. Your midterm and final are 4-6 page papers.
Dr. Singer inspired me to major in phil and to become a phil prof. after taking phil 25. The class is challenging but the class is well organized and Dr. Singer's grading criteria is straight forward. This class is structured how college classes should be. My thinking and writing both improved in a way that prepped me confident for UCR this Fall!
I wrote the previous review too but ran out of space. I wanted to say that this class was the perfect Saturday class because it is well organized. Dr. Singer has been teaching the class a long time and is obviously in his realm when teaching logic. His teaching is very clear and so it his grading criteria. You just have to keep up with the work.
Horrible teacher he didn't encourage the class at all. He made you almost afraid to take the course. I didn't like his attitude towards his students. Don't waste your time.
If you follow Singer's program keeping up on the reading & HW + use the study tools he offers (quiz /extra problems), you should be able to get an A or B. I had trouble on the first paper but got a little extra help and still pulled an A. With doing all the work, I got As and Bs on everything. You have to do it tho. This class helped me a lot.
This class was 100% worth waking up Sat morn 4. Super organized. I tanked the 1st paper bringing me down a lttr grade overall but he gives u his grading criteria so its my fault. Ur papers have to be total final drafts. This means no errors/follow directions. But he gives you his grading format. Also gives practice exams, so helpful 2 study from.
You just sit there and listen to him lecture, class consists of 4 test with a total of 400 points (100 points each test). Tests are all writing very short and concise paragraphs. You will get marked off for word choice, grammar, and length. I came out of every test thinking I scored well but only ended up with a B. Studied for 2-5 hours each test.
Four exams are all you are graded by, so if you don't do well in tests don't take. He is very clear and tells you how to get a good grade. Connects his own life experiences to the topic and makes it interesting! Would highly recommend to anyone.
Good Sat. class. Lots of structure to this class that helps you succeed. Sat. class prof. Singer has time after class to help you because he's not going off to his next class. Also, no prob. getting premium parking and less busy. Just make sure to get 4-5 small blue books before the 1st test.
Singer helped me with my writing more than any other class or professor at PCC. If you are serious about being able to write a good paper, follow Singer's outline and you will see that it works on other classes too. Just make sure to turn in final drafts. I almost got a B in the class because my first paper was far from a final draft.
Best professor Ive had at PCC. Lays things out in a way that if you follow instructions and turn in well edited work, you can get an A. I used the writing lab and got As. HW is the stuff on the tests. Very clear. Straight up prof. Good guy.
You HAVE to turn in polished work in this class. I turned in a weak first paper and lost a letter grade because of it. I learned from this and took Singer for Phil1 and got an A. He is the best prof. I have had so far at PCC but he is a HARD grader!
I LOVE Professor Singer!! He is hilarious. He incorporates his own personal experiences in class lectures to get students' attention. He also doesn't use the textbook/powerpoint when teaching, making it look like he's just having a conversation with students. You have to write 2 papers, which are relatively easy. Overall, his class is an easy A.
Professor Singer is literally the best. Though the course wasn't exactly easy breezy, his hilarious lectures make up for it. His interesting life related stories make it easier to learn the material. If I'm being honest, I didn't think that I would have this much fun in a Philosophy class. It was fast pace since it's winter but great prof!
I have taken him for the semester, and his lectures are hilarious. He cares for his students, and even when you don't understand the material, he keeps explaining to you until you know. Also, his grading is precise, and you will get an easy A if you studied, take notes, asked questions when needing too, and take the time to understand the material.
Tough grader, I would say. Very funny and chill but heavy tests as well.
Although the class was online, you can tell he's a funny professor based on his lectures. There are 4 tests and 2 papers. The tests are fairly easy but you have to do the homework and take the practice quiz to do well! He also answers super quick through email which is a plus.
I would have loved to take this class in person because you can really tell through the online lectures that Prof. Singer is a caring and fun teacher. He tells you exactly what will be on the tests and gives you a clear criteria for the papers. There's a total of 2 papers and 4 tests, so you need to do well on everything if you want a good grade.
Theres no extra credit, no makeup test, literally nothing. If you do good on the tests youre okay if not get ready to get a bad grade. Hes not as best professor as I taught.
He's hilarious, and a cool professor. Explains everything clearly. Homework wasn't mandatory, but it does help you understand the concepts.
Awesome teacher, responds quickly and genuinely cares. All lectures for online course are PDF. You will have homework that is not turned in for points but you should do it to succeed. There is a quiz the day before every exam that is also not turned in for points but it is an exact example of what the exam will look like.
Singer is funny and has a lot of character. It's nice to learn through anecdotes and conversation. For assignments, he'll tell you what you have to do clearly and you really just have to do it. It was simple enough just show up and pay some attention.
Makes the material accessible and easy to understand. He is obviously very passionate about the subject and enjoys discussing concepts with you if you catch him after class. Very funny, too! Papers had interesting prompts and he grades fairly.
I can absolutely say Professor Singer is literally the best teacher I have ever had. He is so caring towards his students
he tries to be humorous and relatable. grades were based off of 2 papers and 4 tests. he was kind enough to let me make up a test, but he made it clear that he never does stuff like that. he curved every test, which was super helpful. don't take him if you can't put 100% effort into those 6 assignments. would take him again.
Pretty chill and funny. Very straightforward for an online class. 5 exams, non-cumulative. Make sure you read and do the homework. If you really needed to, you can read the majority of a chapter in a day and still pass the exams, but don't do that lol. great music recommendations. silly pictures. silly guy. silly life.
Amazing professor, he would help with any questions I had an is less of a teacher and more of a chill dude that know a lot about philosophy. All questions have patterns associated with the material in his lectures so it's really easy once you find them. Also a very nice grader for essays, but class is graded on 4 tests and 2 papers.
You either like him or you don't and there's really in no inbetween. You're graded on 4 tests and 2 papers with no redos. He grades on a curve however and he always gives a non-graded quiz that is structured exactly like the test that he goes over with you before the tests. He was kind enough read and gave me feedback on papers for my ethics class.
