VERY hard exams. Is willing to help students before and after class, however.
As previous rater stated - very hard tests. Don't just study what he talks about (no matter what he says in class) - his test are over ALL of the text. Even if he says otherwise!!!
He was a very hard teacher. It seemed like teaching this class was second nature to him. His test were extremely hard. I wouldnt take hiim again
Tough, tough, class. If you like independent study and want to really really know the material inside out, I would reccomend him as a Prof. Otherwise, run the other way.

Pompous. Acts like he's doing students a favor.
Be ready to drop the class if you have him as a professor, that is unless you want to study like 4 hours every night.
I hate to blame teachers when I'm not doing well but this teacher is horrible. I attend every class and I am just as confused as the day I started. I have an A in my other two classes and an F in his even though I devote at least 3 hours of studying a day. He does not care if you fail. Do not take his classes!
You must have at least a master degree in Biology in order to pass his tests!
He was absolutely awful! He spent 4 1/2 weeks on chapter 3 and then tried to cram in the last few chapters within like 3 weeks. He was arrogant, and acted as if he felt like he needed to be in a "better" school. I absolutely do not recommend him.
He sucks as a teacher... he tells you what is going to be on his test and then they are not on there... there is a whole lot more that needs to be learned than what he says. Study more from your book than what he says. Hes not helpful so don't ask!
worst teacher i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!
GRRRRR NEVER AGAIN!! He does not stick to his word, he talks way too fast, he gets mad at you when you don't understand or ask questions. WARNING: do NOT take him!!!
has no idea what he is talking about
very unclear on the material you need to know. should be teaching a doctorate program
I had him for lab so he's not too bad. He does go fast, gets frustrated when he gets blank stares from students. Has high expectations. I don't recommend him for lecture. He's not a monster like everyone makes him out to be. Just demanding.
He is an extremely intelligent man and has no idea how to relate to students. The last two chapters on the syllabus were at least twice as long as any other chapter, yet we only spent two and a half days on the two combined. I highly do not recommend him
He was the worst teacher I have EVER had I ended up dropping his class and I have never dropped a class before...He is not very friendly and not willing to help out much....I heard he had a 50% pass rate so he really doesn't care if you pass or fail!....Defiantly get a differnt teacher if you actually want to pass!
He is very smart HOWEVER his tests are sort of in depth and at times confusing. His pass rate is low and even when myself and another student had a straight from the book CORRECT answer he said that wasnt what he wanted. What? Yeah, its like that. I would not recommend him at all.
I have never failed a class let alone dropped one...this guy is a joke and unless you want to devote 24 hours a day reading a book that he doesn't even use, I would NOT recommend this guy. No notes, no handouts, no study guides and no reviews. Very poor instructor.
Very poor teacher. Very unclear lectures and extremely hard tests. He does not help you at all, and in the end it is your own fault that you are not a genius. Would not recommend him a 100%.
I had him for lab, so I took the same tests as everyone else. He was SUPER in lab. I would recommend him to anyone for lab. He goes thru EVERYTHING and you know exactly where everything is. He is ALWAYS late though, he even missed our first exam. Although he is errogant, he can be down to earth too. I thought he was very approachable.
Awesome teacher! Class is hard, but he is very helpful
Pompous, Arrogant, Cocky, Rude, and unengaging. Expects you to be a genius before taking his course. Took it twice, failed it twice. Awful profesoor. Tricky tests, yet claims they were very fair questions. Do not take his course unless you are planning to dedicate your whole life to it. I wouldn't take him again if you paid me.
I don't know how he is still teaching. He isn't prepaired for lab but expected you to be. His thoughts are totally disorganized, and he jumps from on thing to another. I'm doing well as of now, with no help from him. Don't take him if you don't have to. He hasn't even read me email yet from a few weeks ago, what teacher doesn't read emails.
If you take him....he has no hand outs, study guides, or notes. He goes to fast to take notes. I found a way to get a good grade in his class. Open your book and highlight what he says in tour text book. Then go back and read what you have highlighted. The over head he uses comes straight from the text. Do this and you will pass.
This teacher gives no notes, handouts,or study guides. what he claims is on the exam is not. exams are very hard. Be prepared to be a master in the subject befor you take him. Oh by the way good luck taking good notes on your own he jumps around so much and goes so fast you will play hell catching up.
Sosebee expects you to know all the material inside and out & his exams reflect this. It was hard to follow him in lecture because he goes really fast & jumps around topics. He was, however a good lab instructor.
Took him for my first BIO class and didn't do well. Ended up as my only choice again for 143. It was awful. Couldn't follow him. He jumped around too much, focused on things that weren't relevent, tests were really hard, and I wouldn't recommend him.
He is very hard and you will have to study a lot. But he is fair. He gives extra credit, so make sure you take advantage of it! Also, highlight your book and take notes in the margin of your book. He talks to fast to take traditional notes. If you study hard and come to class, you will be ok.
I thought he was a sufficient college professor. Very smart, just doesn't relate to the students well. To all of the people complaining about his class being "Hard" or "too demanding" note this: If college was easy, or if it was a free handout with no hard work invovled EVERYONE would sign up....

He is aweful -- I wouldn't suggest him to anyone.
The test questions were so confusing! More than half the class failed the first test and Mr. Sosobee said the test was too easy and that he needed to make it harder! I DO NOT recommend this teacher to anyone.
he jumps around all the time and tells you stuff and then hes says but you dont need to know that and crosses it out. so why even tell us? he dont stay on the subject at all. i would not recommend him at all.
WOW! I have taken several A&P classes prior to 141. I took his class and felt like I knew nothing! He talks way to fast and jumps around like crazy. Before going into that class I felt like I had a strong background and it would be a breeze. I was wrong, he confused me like crazy! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!
Prof Sosobee is a very hard Professor. He indeed does jump around a lot and his test are very hard. Personally, I would not take his class again. But, he definitely knows his material.
Intelligent professor. He definitely knows Biology. He might be more a little more effective as a teacher if he had better people skills.
The first day he said he wanted to see how many students he could fail. Not even halfway through he quarter mot of the students had dropped out. There are no handouts, study guides,or help. He expects you to know everything. Though, out of all my anatomy classes, I received my highest grade (high C) with him, but only because I studied my hardest!
I really like this prof. He is cocky, but he knows his stuff. He does EXPECT you to read the book and have a general idea of what he is talking about before you come in. There is too much info to waste time on those who won't put forth an effort. A+++
Really hard to follow in class, note almost impossible
I thought Sosobee was not unreasonable. It is imperative that you understand concepts instead of just memorizing them. The information you learn in Anatomy & Physiology is VITAL! He is preparing you for future classes (i.e. Becker's pharmacology). Even if it doesn't seem like it, he is doing you a favor.
He was a challenging professor. You really have to understand the concepts, not just memorize them. He is arrogant, which was irritating, but he knows what he is talking about. The worst part in this class? The typical sinclair nursing program student who whines about actually learning things, I think that was what made last quarter's class bad.
I had to take this class again because he was such a hard teacher. When I did take the class again with a better prof. I acutally got a B in his class I couldnt get anything over a 50 percent
I thought that I was going to fail this class because on the second test class average was a 55%. I thought that he was a very hard and demanding teacher but this class is critical for my degree. He wants you to know the material and apply it not just memorize it. I liked him overall. You must show up to class to know what he expects.
I can not believe anyone lets this guys teach. He is horrible!!!!
He was an extremely unreasonable teacher who jumped around from chapter to chapter! DO NOT take him...you will fail! basically he SUCKS!
DONT take him if all possible! i had to take this class over because he was horrible!!!!!!!! he doesnt give out any notes and goes though his powerpoint super fast. there is no way to prepare for the test. none of the information from the book or what you can get from his lecture is on the test. i tried recording his lectures and got in trouble.
If you want to be spoon fed go elsewhere. Attend Lectures and take notes. The more he mentions something during lecture the more you should review it.
You guys are whack for giving him poor reviews. You learn so much from him and his classes prepare you for "real" college.
This man knows his A & P, but he lacks mostly people skills. I found his lectures very difficult to follow and this class should have been review for me. His tests are impossible to prepare for. He talks very fast and jumps all over the place. I would not recommend this guy. He seems more interested in showing off his knowledge than teaching.
James sosebee is smart and he knows his material however he cannot bring it down to a beginners level. His tests are extremely difficult.Id spend 4-5 hours studying and still not pass. Not to mention you have a 40-60 page study guide that you MUST turn in to take your test but its only worth 5 extra credit points!I will have to retake because of him
aw he wasn't sooo... bad, i've had worse.
The study guides are long (20-25 pages), but they are easy to complete and help you learn the material. He really knows his A&P and does his best to make sure everyone understands it. You can't blame him for your lack of effort.
Isn't it just interesting that I got an "A" in Becker's class but could not pass Sosobee's? Try to find another A&P teacher if possible...
He is very hard. He didn't give study guides or powerpoints. When going through the powerpoint he goes fast and tell you its in the book. The test is out of rage with his lecture. I have never withdraw from a class until I got him.
Worst teacher every for a science class. Studied for hours before class and couldn't pass the tests. Studied just the pictures and captions for the final and passed. Yells at you if you dont take notes, but yells if you write down the powerpoints and changes the screen. Was 1 point from a C and wouldn't bump me up even though I went to his office.
He is hard, but its for your own good. He teaches the material with the intent of teaching you what you really need to know for your future classes and career. He teaches like a real university prof, so if you're used to having the power points printed out for you and being spoon-fed everything, think again.
WORST EVER!!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS....HE IS THE WORST BIOLOGY TEACHER I EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE DEPARTMENT LET HIM TO TEACH BIOLOGY. HIS POWER POINT LOOKS ORGANIZED BUT THE WAY HE PRESENT IN CLASS IS VERY DISORGANIZED...JUMP FROM ONE CHAPTER TO ANOTHER. UNPROFESSIONAL...WHY DO YOU WANT TO TAKE HIS CLASS? FIND ANOTHER ONE...
Worst teacher I've ever had. Jumped all over the place and very hard to follow. I agree, he knows his stuff. He is just very unorganized. I had to re-take A and P because of him.
WORST EVER!!! HE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT HOW HIS LIFE IS MESSED UP AND HE IS TRYING TO GIVE YOU DISORGANIZED LECTURE AND VERY VERY DIFFICULT EXAMS AND MESS UP YOUR SCHOOL LIFE AND GPA. HE SHOULD NOT TEACH A&P.
I am dropping this class because I just can't retain anything learned. He deff knows his what he is teaching and alot about everything else, I think it just isn't brought down to the beginners level that I need. You deffinately need to put in alot of studying time and show up to every class- early. Alot of knowlege, just vert advanced.
His class is really hard he talks really fast and skips around subjects when teaching
Mr.Sosobee was very detailed in his teaching which he should have been because the human body is very intricate. He offered office hours and extra help on saturdays.Could have been a little more patient, kind of flew through material. If you come to every class and study hard you should be fine.Do not expect it to be handed to you.
He was very informational and helpful! Very hands on.
i just took his class. and all though i am not passing.. MY FAULT!.i dont think anyone should assume the worst of him.yes he is detaled. and yes his class is hard. he wont baby you. if you want someone to hold your hand through an already difficult course i suggest taking someone else.i would also suggest putting in the extra time for this class. i
do not take him if you don't have to he is a really bad teacher and is very rude. He is always all over the place talking about his life kids and stuff no one cares about. save you time and your money if you cant get another teacher just wait do not take him.
give the guy a break. hes not that bad.this sight scared me out of taking him. but it was too late so i stayed.hes a nice guy who is right in believing that you SHOULD know this material before going into your carrer. would you want someone to take care of you who didnt know this info???give him a chance!
Great teacher! But, not easy by any means. He is genuinely interested in education. It is true that his classes are VERY detailed. But I can say that I learned a lot! Studying is essential for this class! Not for students looking for an easy A. Sosebee is a great teacher for those students who want a True Understanding of what they must learn.
i thought he was hard but fair. all you have to do is put in the WORK! college isnt supposed to be easy! if you want to be in healthcare, you need to know this stuff. if you cant handle the work, get another career goal. too many babies on here! imho
he tries to get his point across, but if you miss it, then there is no going back. he is nice and flexible, but the work he gives is simply uncomprehensible.
This class was extremely hard, especially for a 100 level course. I love biology and it was tremendously hard for me to even get a B in this class. I also feel this teacher was a bit disorganized.
anatomy is hard by itself....dont blame the teacher......blame yourself
I think he is a great teacher but not for the begining courses. I failed this class beacuse I did not put enough time in. He went way above my head he needs to teach a cource for advanced students I need someone who knows how to break it down. if u are returnig to college after being out for several years he is not the one to take!!!!
He knows his stuff but way too hard if you don't have time to study. Not for us older adults who have to work full-time and go to school. I dropped it before I failed and I've always had A's and B's. For all of you who say it's not for babies, it's not for hard working responsible adults either.
Some of these comments just make me laugh. It seems like some of you want to be spoon fed your education, and at this point if you college carreer you can't study on your own choose a dif. major. Sosebee is a wonderful teacher took him 141/142 made everything about anatomy clear to me. hard but fair.
Regardless of what other students have posted, Professor Sosebee is a great teacher. If you truely WANT to learn and have a UNDERSTANDING of what you are being taught, he will do just that. I would not miss a lecture. He provides a lot of useful information that ANY student entering the medical field will need that you will not get out of the text
I took Prof Sosebee for bio 147 & 148 (1st 2 A&P labs) and loved him. I have heard that he can be difficult in class, but he had good clarity & explained everything very well in lab. Took him without hesitation the 2nd time and if he taught during the summer, I would hesitate a 3rd time.
For lecture, he was terrible. I think he is a great person, but teaching is not his forte. I asked him when a test was going to be and replied with well I don't really know what to say except when we finish lecturing. Doesn't answer emails and didn't give enough time for final two tests. we lectured 1 day each for last two tests. 43% pass rate.
I took this teacher for lab, never again! Nice guy but he never responded to calls or emails and it took him two weeks to post test grades! Ridiculous... Also counted one of my answers wrong and didn't fix it now I cant get ahold of him since class is over! Be warned!
I do not like this teacher. Fortunately, I just had him for lab but he was almost always late. One time we waited 20 min and he finally showed up. He didn't go over the material very well and it was difficult to answer all the lab questions in the book. He's very scattered brained. I will never take him again.
This is a difficult class. Requires alot of study time. But even studying is useless with this professor. He is the most scatterbrained, disorganized professor I have ever seen! He is NEVER on time to class (at least 10 minutes late) and always runs over because of this. If he is your only option, wait a quarter!
Absolutely dreadful so avoid this prof. if you are smart. Wasted class time to an extreme, very unorganized, unique and frazzle-brained teaching style. Hard to learn. We had 2 lectures for the last 2 tests because we ran out of time after he wasted so much time talking about his son and grandmother. Hardest class I've ever taken. Nice guy though.
Smart man. Very difficult class, he does make things clear if you are asking questions and willing to paticipate. He will make sure you pass if you are willing to put forth the effort. He makes sure you actually know the info confidently. tough but good and also fun sometimes.
very very hard.he is all over the place doesn't follow powerpoints. he is nice if u put in effort but he is still very very hard!!
great professor- makes very complicated material easier to understand!
He did not facilitate the learning process and refused to let us have his power points!! I had a very difficult time getting an A. Very disorganized but there was some opportunity for extra credit.
The material was not easy, but if you go to class, participate in discussion and ask questions when you are uncertain of something... you will be fine. Mr. Sosebee is an excellent instructor. I'm disappointed he's not teaching 142 next quarter. However, don't bother if you are not serious.
Mr. Sosebee is an excellent instructor. A lot of people say he is "all over the place" and "unorganized", but everyting he does is for a reason. If you are serious about your studies Mr. Sosebee will teach you what you need to know... if not, don't bother.
Terrible professor. I already have a degree and have taken some grad level courses, I never studied as hard in those courses as I did for this man's class and I still failed. Because he didn't teach anything all quarter. His class is a joke don't waste your time or money.
The point of teaching, is to help your students learn, not to see how many drop after the first test or see how many you can fail. That is this professors mission.I do not expect to be spoon fed, but I do expect to be taught.I pay alot of money to go to school and taking this with him is a complete waste. Save your money and don't waste your time.
Mr. Sosebee truly is a great professor. All of the nasty comments on here are uncalled for. He is hard and he is going to make you work for your grade. However, all BIO 141 professors should. Its not and easy class, but I ended Mr. Sosebee's class with and A because I worked hard and attended class.
I LOVED IT
I LOVED IT ENJOYED COMING TO CLASS
My class started out with 35 people and before the fist test it dropped to 20. After the first test it dropped to 12. This teacher basically refused to help us because he thought it would be "high school" for the teacher to help in any way. No one in my class passed and it was just a Bio class. Worst professor of my life.
Attendance isn't mandatory but to pass you need to go to class! Take a lot of notes and listen to lecture which is very good by the way! Do the course compass he gives you. On the first day he'll tell you what you need to do to pass! He knows what he's talking about! Great teacher!
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Not even exaggerating. Never responds to your emails. I missed class because of a car wreck and he didnt even tell me I had a test next class. doesnt go from the book. tests are unbelievable. Worst teacher by far
This teacher I would not recommend unless you know how to REALLY STUDY. He goes every little detail of anatomy down to the chemical exchange of cells.
Received an A in this class. There are no surprises, just study what he tells you. He reviewed an entire lecture that I missed during his office hours. Willing to help you learn if you are willing to put in the appropriate level of effort.
very good prof! i wont recommend him if u dont like attending the class. u will get an easy A if u go to every class and take notes. he explains everything from its very basic idea. he is kind of disorganized, but he knows his stuff very well.
I took this class and I am already a nurse and i was failing so i dropped the class he is very smart but i dont care for how he conveys the information he is covering to students if u wanted to pass you needed to show up!!!!
James sosebee is an extremely intelligent professor.Take detailed notes and attend class.Take advantage of the help he offers. Don’t get caught up in negative feelings it is what it is, be professional to him and he will return the gesture. This is a very hard class we started with every seat full and finished with very few. Good Luck!
I felt Mr Sosebee was rude and degrading toward his students. He said repeatedly "Even a 5th grader can understand this material." He would almost make fun of us for not knowing something because we are already LPNs. I also felt he was proud of the amount of students who failed. I withdraw from the class because I felt he was unprofessional.
Worst professor I have EVER HAD!!! I am a straight A student and work very hard and study even harder. This professor never went by the book until you looked on the test, then it was all book material. He finds helping students as "high school" if you have a question refuses to answer them, says find out for yourself. "Self help" class.
Worst teacher! Disorganized, rude, and cocky. Doesnt know when the test is. Will stare at you and stop class if you are not looking at him while he is talking. His handwriting is barely legible and the diagrams he puts on the board are messy, confusing, and useless. Does not try to teach so everyone can understand (not everybody learns the same).
He always started class off with some kind of review where he would break everything down to the molecular level, and most of the time none of that was on the tests. He just made it a lot more complicated than it needed to be.
Explained things in a very complicated way. Implied to our class that he wasn't able to teach at the level he wanted to because Sinclair is a community college. Makes students feel stupid for asking questions about the material being taught. Do not take his classes, even if it means you have to wait a semester. Overall a very bad experience.
WAY to smart to teach. Very intelligent professor that knows his stuff. HOWEVER, Myself, nor my other 6, yes 6 class mates are bio freaks. Tests were extremely hard. Nothing he said would be on the test, was ever on the test. late to class EVERYDAY, but wants to keep us over. Just as confused today as the day I started.
In the begining the class was like I was learning a foreigh language. James made me comfortable with the lecture and homework.I did pass his class and I would recommend this teacher. If you plan to come to class and do nothing of course you'll fail. Come to class, listen, take good notes, and do the assigned HW. I loved this class. He's awesome.
I will say this class was difficult and Mr. Sosebee was intimidating at first. However, he was always more than willing to assist his students in their success. Take good notes and actually come to class and you will solidify your passing grade. This class is my ticket to my RN! I do not doubt that! Thank you Mr. Sosebee!!!
He knows his stuff, but he can't teach it to anyone without stressing them out. He says not to look at the power point slides, and that the notes he gives in class are the only thing you need.. but that's a lie. The only class to stress me out to the point of tears. His teaching styles are definitely different, but doesn't help me much, personally.
Says to just follow what he writes on the board and you will pass. L.I.E.S. The tests have almost nothing to do with the notes I took, they're all out of the book that he said not to read. He always goes back over the same thing every day and I'm still confused. I record his lectures, take notes, and go through the book and still cant pass.
Professor Sosebee can b confusing IF YOU DO NOT READ THE CHAPTER AHEAD OF CLASS. I would be lying if I said it was easy to pass this class. But once I realized he was more than willing to ask for help, and was somewhat encouraging to get students to pass, it wasn't that hard. Would have passed if not for Lab, he's a whole nother story for lab tho!
if you do not have any history with biology you will not pass this class.... take a general bio so u know what ur dealing with before u get here. whats talked abt in AP1 has nthn 2do wthis, these are the vital systems so hes harder, dont be lazy WRITE EVERYTHING HE WRITES, then rewrite it, study it in depth. it will be on the test& READ THE BOOK
I really respect him as a person and educator but sometimes he was all over the place in lecture and often not very clear. He was somewhat lenient when arguing over missed questions on the test. He says to just know the notes for the tests but the tests are worded from the book so looking at both is almost mandatory to understand the material.
Confusing! Condescending! Erratic! He probably is a great guy outside of class but you never know which version of him you will get in class. His tests do not match lectures at all and it feels like he resents explaining things to students. I would say he comes across as smart but he contradicts himself all the time and then argues about it. Ugh!
I really liked him. He is tough, but I learned a lot. I would take him again if I could. If you do take him just make sure you don't miss a class. Takeing notes is a must. I did not really look at the book but the notes from class were a must.
He is one of the worst Anatomy & Physiology professors at Sinclair. Nobody recommends you to take his classes. It is a waste of time.
Very intelligent, sometimes maybe too intelligent. Great professor. You HAVE to study. I feel that some classmates want him to hand-feed them answers for the test. Isn't the point of the class to actually learn and retain information?!
very hard!!
Very intelligent and can't explain things in a way for people to understand. Would not recommend taking this class with this professor.
Absolutely the WORST professor on campus. To all of you new comers to Sinclair I am giving you fair warning not to take him. I have been on the dean's list every semester since I started in 2014 so heed these words. He does yoga in class. Makes you buy books that you can't use for the second semester and no $ back for as it's loose-leaf. RUN!!!!!!!
Yes this class was horrible and probably the hardest class I have ever taken. But, I also learned more in that class than I had during my LPN schooling. He was tough but fair and gave opportunities for extra credit. If you put forth the effort, you passed. I am a better LPN and can now better understand my RN classes.
I love Mr. Sosebee as a person. His teaching style was not for me. He is clearly highly intelligent. Sometimes it seems that he is too smart for his own good. Our class average was close to 40%.
He was an amazing professor! Just write down everything he says in his class and you will for sure pass. His test aren't from the book. He only test you from things that he said during lecture.
He's tough and a little bizarre but he knows his stuff
A lot of students view anatomy & physiology as a hard subject. This professor breaks it down to the molecular level. If you go to class, take notes, listen and participate you will not have any problems. He is teaching everyone to think outside of the box which will help you in your future careers.
I just felt he was discouraging from day 1. He continued to talk about how normally only 4 students pass. And by the mid-term he barley has any students left. His lectures were all over the place. I agree he is an intelligent man, but I just personally did not follow his teaching style. People do learn differently though.
Anatomy and Physiology was a difficult subject for me, but Sosebee made it easier to understand. He's tough, but if you listen and pay attention to what hes teaching, you'll have it down. He cares about his students doing well and wants a lot of class participation. He always wants to make sure students understand the material before moving on.
Very good person and very smart but doesn't know how to translate that into teaching. You have to go to lecture to even have a chance at barley passing the class. He takes too much time on subjects so we rush through the others. Do not recommend if this class is needed for your major.
He seems like a nice person, and he is HIGHLY intelligent however he's not good at relaying the material in a way students can understand. His lectures are all over the place, and lack structure. There was no formal use of power points and no study guides for exams. I'd drop out of college before ever taking him again.
If you're not willing to work hard, and commit to learning with his out of the box approach then he is not right for you. Many people struggle with his class but those who make it out have an exponentially greater understanding of the subject than those who have a different instructer. Definitely taking him again. Hard work pays off!
I took Professor Sosebee for Bio 1141 and again for Bio 1242. I received an A in both classes. All exams are based off of notes that were taken during lecture. Know any figures from the book that he goes over. He will make you think outside the box on exams. Exams get harder. He will not hand you your grade. You have to earn it! Keep an open mind!
Professor Sosebee is an incredibly smart man, and a fantastic person as well. Unfortunately, his class isn't structured well. He is all over tha place with information, and the students are woefully unprepared for exams. There is no clear study material for the exams, and if you don't have his lecture as well you can kiss good grades goodbye.
Any topic covered in lecture can be on the exam. This professor links previous information with new information in order to create a big picture. He accepts questions and enjoys when the class participates. You have to pay attention in class, he makes you focus and think outside of the box. He's one of my favorite professors ever!
He is a very smart man like everybody has said. Its hard to see at first but he cares about his students. Pay most attention to lectures and participate in class. He isn't for everybody but he does try to make the material easy to hold on to.
He's a really nice guy, he's just not a good teacher. He was all over the place. If you plan on taking his class I highly suggest taking good notes, if you study the notes and they are good and well written notes then you will do well on the exams. Put hard work into that class and you should be fine. But I don't suggest him.
As a person, Sosbee is nice and helpful, as a professor, he is hard to follow, is strict about all tech, no electronics or electronic books allowed. He grades hard, doesn't use the textbook, which is needed for the tests, and repeats lectures. I have had lectures about the same three things three classes straight and he still didn't make any sense.
Good person, but not a good professor. Taking notes is extremely hard because he is all over the place. I suggest to rewrite your notes after every lecture and read read read the chapter. He says you can pass the class with just your notes but once you take one of his exams you'll realize there is material he did not cover during lecture.
All of his tests are over all the notes you take in class. The textbook is very helpful. He tends to stray from the topic a lot during lecture. He rarely uses PowerPoints and writes almost everything on the board.
Know what you're getting into. Doesn't teach in a traditional manner. Tends to repeating and storytelling. He does cover everything in the test during lecture but sometimes obliquely. Can be very annoying. If you read the text and skim the ppt, you can get through without any trouble. He's a fair grader, but not easy.
He acted more like a philosopher than a teacher who made sense of the subject
Definitely a different and quirky teaching style, but for me it really helped retain as much information as possible. Doesn't always keep up with course outlines, but makes sure you are prepared for your exams. Will make time for you if you're struggling. Willing to work with students to ensure success. Mindfulness is key in this classroom!
I loved taking Professor Sosebee, I had him for A&P 1 and the lab portion. Show up, participate, and ask questions, its not meant to be an easy class and he tries to have the material make sense in innovative ways. He is big on mindfulness which helped calm us for exams, but I always knew what material to study. Plenty of extra credit was given.
All info needed for passing exams is given in class, and if not he will give you credit. Take notes and study them and you'll pass. He puts everything you need to know on the board in a manner that makes it comprehensible. I prefer this rather than clicking through slides all day. If you failed it's because you weren't paying attention!
Uses diagrams to help you focus on what is important. Lectures seem to be all over the place, but pay attention and you will do well in the class. Very understanding and encouraging. He wants everyone to succeed. Tough grader, but gives extra credit. If you put in the effort your grade will reflect,
he's all over the place. the was he does his notes sucks and you can't even understand them. he doesn't go off the textbook at all.
I really did not like sosebee at first, but he is a great professor, I missed quite a bit of class due to work and just a lack of motivation, and got notes from friends and studied at home a lot. He for sure has his own way of teaching and works with you. A&P is very hard but he will go out of his way to help you understand it. Great guy!
This is my freshman year and I didn't know this website existed, and I'm a pretty easy going person. This teacher made me so mad to even listen to. He would talk about things that had nothing to do with A & P such as the military, race, how he feels when he takes cough medicine, and such random topics. I highly suggest not taking this class.
extremely difficult, must go to BIOsis lab, but I never had time because I had five other courses to worry about. Not very fair
He was very rude, called people out for no reason. Went off of topic a lot
He was a wonderful professor! I adored him! He makes you meditate in class and is all about mindfulness.
Mr. Sosebee was a phenomenal professor. You needed to attend his class to really get good notes. He doesn't use PowerPoint or the textbook.
Mr. Sosebee was a nice person, but thats as far as it goes. He was all over the place with powerpoints. He would start on slide 2 and jump to slide 25 and back to 6 and so on and so forth. Very disorganized, and It made it difficult to stay focused. If I would have had a different professor for this lab course, I would have received an A.
I would not recommend this class to anyone that wants a good grade. I am still taking it but I feel like I'm not learning anything. He goes all over the place with his lectures and makes no sense. He won't look at his email, let alone respond to you. He will also come late to class and end lecture way past the time it was supposed to end!!!
Mr. Sosebee is a great person & VERY smart, but the way he does his notes just doesn't work for me. it is very hard to get them if you don't go back after lecture & rewrite them in a way for you to understand. his tests get harder overtime. he repeats a lot of the same stuff , goes over the time every lecture & gets rude if you don't participate.
James is such a great professor! I had him for both BIO 1141/1147. He's a bit of an odd character, but I really enjoyed attending his classes. He teaches you exactly what you need to know instead of making you know every little detail in the textbook. He's willing to explain anything and review exams and quizzes if you need help. 100% recommend!!
I personally did not like his teaching style. The way he writes notes is very all over the place and he talks in circles. If you have anxiety or are shy don't take this class he gets upset if you don't volunteer or participate. He also gets upset if your notes don't look like his. He's not a bad professor but his teaching style isn't for everyone.
A genuinely pleasant guy, especially if you participated and showed interest in the class. Lectures were slow and he wasted lots of time. Tests were extremely difficult and assumed a level of mastery beyond that of Anatomy 101. No recorded lectures or lecture slides, so studying was time consuming and a slog w/ the textbook. Big avoid.
Professor Sosebee is very wise when it comes to A&P but he has trouble teaching it to people with no prior kn and sometimes seemed condescending at first. His lectures are hard to follow so if you don't understand anything, ask questions! He will meet with you outside of class if you need it. Be ready to participate and introduce yourself 1st day.
One of my favorite lecturers is Professor James. He was in both my 1141 lecture and 1147 lab. He teaches his students the knowledge required for tests. However, if you like a professor that teaches his students using a blackboard, he is the one. I've seen a lot of unfavorable comments here but it does not relate him. Thanks for kindness/hard works.
Taught at a level that exceeds far above A&P 1 and is difficult for someone who doesn't have background in the field of science. Very lecture heavy and the majority is outside of the textbook. Can't miss lectures. Exams are very difficult and are worded in a way that is hard to understand. Most people dropped. Nice guy, horrible class experience.
Lab is straight forward. Quizzes were made up on spot. Exams were 25 questions with 26 options. You have to actually know the information. Notes are hard to follow.
The lab was easy. However, the tests that he makes up he stands in front of the class pointing to fixtures on the anatomy. He thinks of tests out of his head. No preparation! He moves quickly through the lab class. YOU MUST STUDY FOR YOUR SELF! My class was tested on dissection and we never dissected. Two hour lab without any break.
Missing a single lab will tank your grade, he doesn't use eLearn, so you can't access any materials outside of class. Not even a syllabus. Doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner, if at all. Makes up quizzes on the spot for some reason. His handwriting is impossible to read, so if you can't follow his rambling, you'll have no notes.
James Sosebee is an awesome guy and showed that he really cared for the students in his classroom and the science that he was teaching. If you followed along in class and put in effort for the class you'll receive a passing grade. However, he did go on on tangents, and going off-topic was inevitable which caused us to be behind compared to others.
Pros: Everything on the test comes out of his mouth during class Covers topics thoroughly that are test-centric Attendance isn't mandatory but recommended (4 missed classes, achieved A+) Tests come with a lot of repeat questions on the same topic (Pro/con) Cons: A lot of tangent discussions(Be receptive and engaging) Extra credit is NOT guaranteed
When he would teach certain topics he wouldn't be very direct with what hewas teaching forthe actual exams, we would have to read the whole chapter and memorize it.He would keep us 30 minutes after class and were not allowed to leave. We were not allowed to have phones, or computers out, if we weren't writing everything he said he would call us out.
Attendance isn't for a grade, but you'll struggle if you skip. He tests based off what he says, not the PowerPoints/textbook. Very engaging and caring, but also tough. He gives a lot of info, but as long as you're paying attention to him, it's manageable. Take good notes & ask questions and you'll do good.
His teaching style is very unorthodox and is hard to get used to; however, once you do get used to his teaching methods he is a fantastic teacher.
I ended up having to drop this class because I wasn't learning anything at all from him. Hes a nice guy but he teaches like were graduates and have already learned the topic. Hes super messy with his work and makes no sense half of the time. I just could not learn from him at all and he also gets very mean for no reason. Just wasn't my fav.
Cares more about having control than students' learning. If you aren't taking notes when he wants you to, or not looking at him whenever he wants you to, you must not be paying attention. Must sit with your exam for 45 minutes, no more, no less. Then go straight in to lecture after. Not a good professor. Switched into a different section.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! Thinks you should spend 5 hours a day studying just for this course, no excuses. Says he'll feed you the info but you should not need him after that. Is 15 minutes late to every single class and will keep you longer than scheduled. Doesn't answer questions clearly and rambles on about different subjects. He's very arrogant.
Very difficult to understand. He goes off on tangents about things unrelated to what we're learning. He takes up the entire lab time just talking and not even doing the labs. His PowerPoints are just questions so if you wanted to review something you can't. No phones so you can't even record the lecture. Didn't provide a way to contact him.
Took him for A&P 1 and 2. He does not use the textbook or PowerPoints, just lectures from his brain. His tests are based off everything he says in class. Doesn't grade for attendance BUT it's hard to catch up if you miss a lecture. Take good notes on what he says and you'll do fine. You will learn a lot if you participate.
I had Sosebee for my summer semester and he was a great teacher. He is very respectful and inspiring. I learned a lot in his class and it prepared me for my next ones. Thank you.
He is a good person and professor BUT If you need a professor who sticks to the topic, don't take his class. He often goes off on tangents, making it hard to follow the material. He gets upset if you don't participate or ask questions. No cell phones or laptops allowed; you have to take notes his way. Take his class at your own risk.
Professor Sosebee has a unique teaching style that takes some getting used to, but he's a knowledgeable instructor. Attend every class, take detailed notes, and utilize resources like unstuck ai for study prep. The exams are challenging, but manageable with diligence.
Horrible teacher
He is so annoying. He always make things hard and always go off topic while teaching. He always teaches that we don't even had to know. He makes everything so overwhelming. Don't take his class.
he does not explain well and cannot keep his train of thought; he does not teach information for someone to learn who does not know it before
Do not take this professor. His lessons are not organized at all. He will go up to you to see what your doing on your laptop, and if he thinks you are looking at him funny, he will ask why you are looking at him. You cant record the lectures. He doesn't teach anything because he cant even follow a power point.
The worst professor I have ever had.
Mr. Sosebee is nice and willing to work with you if you need to miss class or a test. His teaching is a little all over the place, but I recommend that you have a bunch of different colors to write with so you can keep track of all the information. If you want to do well on his tests, you have to study and make sure to do the study guide!
I really liked sosebee! Yes, this class is difficult and there is a learning curve to his style. Although if you are respectful and take notes, you should have no issue with him. He is willing to work with you and is understanding. Study well and you will pass. Glad he didn't just click slides.
This professor helped me to understand my lab and honestly is the reason I passed my other professor's lecture just because his labs were so helpful to me. He is extremely thorough and really explains the material in a way I can understand
do not take this professor. this was the hardest class and his teaching style made it worse. he consistently goes off topic and expects you to write everything he says. his notes are all over the place. just don't have him as your professor if you want to keep your sanity.
Professor Sosebee is a great educator who balances lectures with real-life insights. He made Anatomy & Physiology easy to understand through his excellent teaching style and the maps he draws on the board. I passed the comprehensive exam with a B just by attending and taking notes. (no textbook needed) Take notes and study— you'll do fine.
I really liked how he teaches, he doesn't teach by the book and I love that. He engaged with the class no matter how tired he was. . I will say this, he does go on tangents about other topics so beware of that. . Other than that, he does amazing. I know past students didn't care for him bouncing around, but it made sense to me.
