Good teacher, and just plain nice guy.
somethings were hard to understand, yet he made things seem a little easier by keeping to the schedule.

James is a remarkably talented teacher, and I did not find his class to be difficult at all, and his directions were clear.. tho Black Broad is an awful idea...Save all emailed papers.
He is a good teacher, uses the computer a lot (Blackboard) which I enjoyed, but if you are unfamiliar with the internet you may not want to take his class. Goes through lecture notes too fast on occasion, but covers important material thoroughly.
james was ok. i didnt like how he answered questions, often times he would make you feel retarded with a sarcastic answer. he was very smart and made the calss interesting.
Okay class, so-so professor.

He is a good professor. If you do your work and study you should not have a problem.
I gotta say he was the worst teacher i've ever had. He was not good at explaining, made the exams soooo freakin' easy but the stupid project hard. i learned nothing from him, his sarcastic comments just make him uglier. stay away from him, he really needs reconstruction!

James is a very good teacher. He moves though the lecture very quickly sometimes, so note taking can be a challenge. But he knows the subject well and seems to genuinely love it too. Overall a good experience!
he is one of the worst teachers i have ever seen!alot of assignments and crap! try to avoid this instructor at all cost
Great sense of humor, makes class interesting (even when the subject matter isn't). As long as you attend class, the exams are easy. The project isn't as difficult as others have posted and he is more than willing to answer any questions. He is very quick to answer e-mailed questions, which is useful for the project and before an exam.
I had Prof. Stewart for the Freshman Seminar online. He was really helpful and would respond promptly to emails. He also gave more comments than just "good" or "bad". Liked the class.
too muh work
This was a web class for me, it was not particularly difficult, and professor Stewart gave feedback on all assignments. But for what it was, I thought it was more work than it was worth, lots of busy work. It may be less work if taken in class rather than online.
Loved his class.
Great class loved it!! Easy and great teacher.
I took the online course and the class is extremely easy and nothing but busy work, but Professor Stewart has some major issues with student interaction. It is impossible to get a hold of him and it takes nothing short of stalking him to get him to respond. If thinking of taking his web course, stay away!
Took the online course. Just a bunch of easy work. Seemed like an okay teacher from my limited interaction with him.
Ehh.. he is ok. A lot of work for this class. I don't think he even reads your final project. I got a 100% on it and I didn't think that I did that well. Uses turnitin.com, which I hate! Takes awhile to grade... easy C or B.
He was an ok professor. I took the online course, but his Blackboard assginments were oftern vague in descriptions. He could be a little bit better.
Very disorganized man. He seemed very uninterested in whether or not the class actually learned anything. Not to mention he missed 4 classes, not including a snow day. We flew threw the work to makeup for it. The final project (instead of an exam) is ridiculously time consuming and non-comprehensive. I do not recommend him at all.
I dropped this class after the 3rd week.. he is a perv! I know that sounds odd.. but almost every class he would work some example of species mating and more than interesting facts that I wanted to know related.. he's an odd character and assigns a lot of busy work. You are better off with another prof, I was, and it worked out better.
Great teacher. Really gets you into the subject. Easy to approach. I took to anthropology classes with him! Wish he taught more!
Easy. Makes the class look hard, by giving a lot of tedious work, but grades easy. I had him for Hybrid Anth, and everything was very straight forward. He was kind of unorganized, but fixed every mistake he made. I have no qualms with him.
Great Professor, loved the class! He is very helpful and very intelligent. Highly recommend him.
I thought Dr. Stewart was a great teacher and I loved his class. Although unorganized at times, he was interesting, wicked smart, wity and considerate. There was a lot of work but he graded easy. I would take 800 more of his classes.
Dr. Stewart was cool. I love the syllabus format! I took this course on-line. My first reaction was that I hated the whole class, BUT, I changed my mind about that. He organized the assignments so that you get experience in all areas of blackboard and other on-line learning tools. It's a nice balance to take this class with a hard class.
Tests (approx. 10 questions each) for every chapter in the book. Only four major assignments - they take a long time - hours. Quizes are organized well, I attended every class and did well on all of them, and have never taken an Anthro class before. Very well organized syllabus. I understood what he taught decently.
way too much work for an intro class. it took forever to receive a grade on an assignment, which required way too much work. this class was more work than all other classes combined. very unorganized and extremely late with updating grades.
If I could use one word to describe this class it would be AWFUL. It is so much work for an intro class and I feel like I didn't learn much at all. He gives 4 assignments which take up so much time there is barely any time to do your other assignments. I took this class and I would steer clear of Professor Stewart
I took this as a web class. Good: The class isn't overly hard, it's fairly interesting, good text book. Bad: VERY SLOW in responding to emails, VERY SLOW to grade papers, very picky, uses turnitin.com, LOTS of busy work and homework is VERY time consuming. If you have time to put hours a week into this class for the homework, then it's an easy A.
My advice would be don't take any class Stewart is teaching. He is very rude and in my opinion I think he enjoys it when his students don't like him. The assignments he gives are absolutely ridiculous and doesn't know how to tell you what you did wrong no constructive criticism what so ever. Waste of my money and transfering because of him.
His homework was time consuming, but only if you waited until the last minute to do it all. It helps to work on the assignments daily. I took his online class, so I had to do put time in for discussion boards, and quizzes. Its not a hard class, if you read and put some time in it.
If you are enrolled in his Class Drop now. I took his class online. As you can see from previous ratings, the work that you would for 3 classes combined u gonna do it just for this class. way too much for an introductory class.I'm graduating next qur I have a GPA of 3.96 and because of this guy I'm just looking barely to pass the class. stay away
you have 4 assignments and take quizzes everyday before class. The assignments are ridiculous. You have to do proper citations to his standards for these assignments many of which require you to do much further research aside from ur book. Extremely time consuming he takes forever to respond. This was the worst experience i've ever had in college.
Professor was good but a little on the demanding side. Class was very interesting.
I took this class online. He is one of the worst teachers I have had. He doesn't answer e-mails well and he will answer your question with a question. He made many mistakes in his notes which I e-mailed and corrected him. He also made mistakes in my grades which I e-mailed him about and he would not fix it. As a result my grade was a letter lower.

Probably my worst experience in college so far with this guy. Takes forever on grading your work, and his assignments are more time consuming than any other class I have ever taken. Stay away from this guy at all costs
ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! Disorganized both as a professor and in his teaching material. Homework assignments are extremely long and tedious. For an intro class he expects you to go above and beyond when he himself does not. Quizzes have incorrect answers which he expects his students to catch and inform him about. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
AWESOME! All of these negative comments obviously come from students that are not serious about education. He forces you to become engaged. Uses all types of media and tools. Format and amount of work was refreshing. I felt like I was ACTUALLY in a college course. I am now going into anthropology because of Stewart. TAKE HIS CLASS!
You will use the textbook for all of your quizzes. Keep your quizzes because he uses most of the questions again for the tests. He builds extra credit into everything, it is impossible to fail!
I had the online ANTH200 course and I appreciated the free rein discussion boards which was helpful when assimilating a whole textbook. When I did ask for any clarity, Prof.Stewart was very concise. I enjoyed his frank and intelligent methods as he inspires how present research and methods conjure facts and growth from previous research.
He is a good professor but isn't going to just hand you the answers. He will provide you with what you need and wants you to be able to see how they tie in together as a whole. He is willing to work with you in order to succeed.
I took the class online and loved the message board topics, the book's online site helped with the quizes, it is a 200 level class and be prepared to put some time in reading and study, he is upfront about the time commitment required to get a good grade
Don't take him for an online class. He does not respond to student emails, so he is virtually non-existent. His quizzes and tests have terrible grammar and spelling and his questions are vague. His discussion board expectations are ridiculous, and worth more points than the quizzes that test the actual textbook material pertaining to the class.
Taking his intro to anthropology class made me want to go into the field. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject and i loved going to class. It wasn't easy per se, but if you study and go to class you shouldn't have any problems passing.
I took this class online. A lot, and I mean A LOT of discussion boards to participate in. He provided great notes, and some actual live videos of his class lecture...except sometimes they did not work. Also, he is very slow to responding to emails. But he is a great and nice prof.
I can't believe this guy has a job. He can't even answer his own questions when I sent an email for clarification and the answers are not in the book to many of his questions, his tests are outdated. He says he doesn't like you going outside the class for answers, yet can't find an acceptable way to get you those answers.
Just awful. Do avoid.
Good god if you are thinking of taking this class online, don't. Take it in class with someone other than him. Definitely the most confusing and ridiculous blackboard setup I have ever seen. You have to read through so much bs just to find the assignments that you have to do for the week. Extremely frustrating discussion board grading.
He is THE WORST. do not take this professor. It's like he doesn't care about anything. Plus he is a slow talker.
DO NOT recommend him at all. Never e-mails back no matter how important the question is and doesn't offer a whole lot of online lectures and what not like any of my other online professors do. His Blackboard setup seems organized but is really just more confusing and unnecessary than it needs to be. Overall don't recommend.
This guy is not terrible but he is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. He will respond to your email but only once. I have to pester him over these things.
I do agree that his blackboard set up is confusing, but the majority of the comments are just exaggerated....his online class is super easy, you use your textbook for all quizzes/tests so it's basically impossible to fail. Just engage in DB, and actually put forth some effort, and navigate blackboard thoroughly. One of the easiest classes I've had.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. He seems organized but he is all over the place. You have to teach yourself pretty much everything. He doesn't respond to emails, he gets mad when you ask questions. His lectures are vague and disorganized. He can be condescending and defensive. He is in the wrong profession.
Very smart!
I don't know where to begin, but you need to know very specific nuanced questions and then apply them to larger concepts to pass this class. Example: what are the dental records of an old world monkey or if you see three monkeys swinging from a branch at the zoo why is the sign likely to be wrong? Just very tough for an intro course. Good luck :)
Professor Stewart is not a great teacher. He is all over the place and I am pretty sure he does not even know what he is talking about half the time. Will cancel class with out telling you and will not give you help if you ask for it. Did not learn very much and guessed on half the tests. Would not recommend taking this class with him
He has a habit of losing many assignments and rather than admitting fault in losing said assignments, he'll claim you didn't turn them in at all even though others saw that you did. His point system is ridiculous, confusing and not very generous to the students. He did not do very well at answering questions clearly.
The class was 80 minutes, but he spent most of the time trying to get his iPad to connect to the computer. It wasn't a blended course, but he really had a knack for technology so most of it is online.
lectures are so boring.... people leaving early constantly. Seems like he doesn't understand what he's teaching. Also can't add to save his life.
Here's the thing about Prof Stewart. The class is a hot mess. The grading system is awful. For ever chapter of reading, you take a pre-quiz (0 pts) and a quiz,20-25 questions long (1 pt) The lectures only briefly touch on the reading & his slides are chaotic. There's no instruction. The tests are vague and worth 15 pts. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Usually I don't take these reviews seriously, but for him you should. Test are all over the place. He typically is late or does not show up at all. Does not respond to emails. In order to pass you must teach yourself. No direction, only 100 pts possible in class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM.
If you're going to take any of his courses, be prepared to do it mostly on your own. He doesn't give back tests, so it's hard to figure out what you did wrong. He also has a tendency to assign quizzes over material that was not covered yet. Look ahead and find out when tests are and, he won't always tell you!!!!!!!!! Also study hard.
His entire demeanor was off-putting to me. I love anthropology but basically every class I wanted to fall asleep from the way the material was presented to the way he taught. His tests contain some things not mentioned in the lecture. He talks down to people like they're stupid. Will definitely be steering clear of his classes.
This course was easy but terrible. His quizzes are littered with mistakes, and there were a lot of functionality issues with his online class. For example, some quizzes won't show the answers after you take them. So, it is impossible to use them to study for the exams. The DB is a major part of the grade and is really a joke is useless.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I took his online class and he gives you no help, it's all from the textbook. NO study guides, NO organized discussion due dates except for one for each unit, confusing organization of the class itself. All the quiz and test questions are complicated and copied straight off of quizlet.
Prof. Stewart himself is a nice guy who clearly loves what he does. However, his class is a MESS. His Blackboard is chaotic, his tests are daunting, there's no real guidance when it comes to reading or what to study. Avoid it if you can. If you can't, my one tip is to read the captions for the photos in the books. He uses them on tests.
Class was taken online: with that said, overall a poor professor. He seems to know the study of Anthropology himself, however his tests are not the easiest to prepare for and he is a hard grader. Also, he grades extremely hard on discussion board posts. He expects to see multiple posts, multiple times per week with a"Average is a C" grading scale.
Prof Stewart provides a clear grading criteria. If you print off the lectures (free in library) to take class notes on, read the chapters in the book (pictures w/captions important), to use to take the on-line quizzes on BB (get 3 tries the questions start to repeat), be in class (because there are labs),then each of the 3 test and the final are EZ
This guy has it made. He is a proctor for a online class and doesn't have to actually teach because its copy and paste from past semesters. He took 2 months to grade an assignment but also extended Test if need be. I actually received 118 and 120% on two discussion boards which is his big thing on the class.
His quizzes are difficult, they purposefully will try and trick you. Read carefully and take a lot of notes. He is an okay online teacher. Take in class I am assuming he is more clear...
Great professor!
I feel bad giving him bad feedback because I genuinely think he means well, but his class was difficult. His lectures seemed long and full of information and it seems like he knows the information but might be copying and pasting. Also, this class has labs and he doesn't tell you which days are lab days so be prepared to show up for every class!
Does a poor job preparing you for tests. Lectures are boring. Overall, class is generally a mess. If you have no problem teaching yourself than this class is for you. Teacher is rude and condensending. Grading scale is a joke.
Average as far as teachers go. He's super disorganized though which can be pretty funny in class. His tests are really hard in that for practically every question there are 2 answers that seem equally right. Getting an 85% on his tests is considered amazing.
Alright instructor. He is not bad just not great either. I took this class online and still ended with an A but just barely. DO THE DISCUSSIONS! He gave me extra credit on two out of the three discussions because of how much I posted, around 20 times total and reply to other students; keep track of their replies and start a conversation.
Great at explaining subject matter on real life examples which makes it a lot easier to remember, compares objectively different opinions, he combines his own notes with the book´s, gives you great insight, very open to discussion, very open-minded, very interesting presentations, very organized and clear when given a HW/ assignment! GREAT CLASS!!
I've never known an intro class to be so hard. Reading, attending all classes, doing homework, and yet an A is still REALLY hard to get. He doesn't include hardly anything on the test that he talks about in lectures. Disorganized, wastes class time, and doesn't let you know when lab is. For all of his faults, you're held at high standards.
Great teacher and a great person. He is very kind and knows his students. There is a lot of reading but for tests he gives you a helpful study guide. I respect him as a teacher and would love to take another class of his.
Where do I even start? Let's start with I tried to drop his class a week in. I couldn't. I nearly fell asleep in every class because all he does is drone on and lecture as if he's the only one in the room. You have few things that make up your final grade, and he's weirdly picky. Nice guy, but not the best professor. Avoid if you can.
You learn from power points and groups work with him which can be super easy points but his tests are nothing like his reviews and very confusing.
Class is easy but dude does not tell you when the labs are so be there every class. Exams are exactly like the quizzes which arent that bad. He loves what he does and hes an ok guy but just doesnt do lectures well and gets lost a lot.
Oh boy, Professor Stewart.. I don't even know where to begin. If you think of a teenage boy's room, that is the visual representation of this man's brain. He wouldn't be so bad if he could stay on track with his lectures. The class is very easy if you have a solid understanding of science but he wastes class time talking about stupid things
From the beginning, there were issues with the course. There required material missing from Blackboard throughout the whole semester. Halfway through the class he just stopped answering emails. I finally had to contact the department chair to get a hold of him, but he still hasn't replied. The curriculum has changed countless times. A total mess!
Professor Stewart is a solid teacher but he gets scrambled a lot and his lessons aren't the best. He is very clearly non-religious and makes a point to say so, so be prepared for that if that is something you like and/or don't like.
Doesnt reply to emails. Online class is a mess
I was excited to take Anth2200 but with my schedule I had to take the online class. Subject material is great but Prof Stewart was was kind of a trainwreck. It felt like he just threw the course materials online and then just forgot about us. Terrible at replying to emails and cancelled the final without telling us so I drove down for nothing.
All I can say is don't take this professor if you want to actually receive a grade. Grades were due Monday and here we are with no grades.
BEWARE! I have never had a worse professor in my entire life! I emailed him numerous times and never once got a response. It was evident he was doing the minimum amount of work just to collect a check from Columbus State. He was all over the place and never provided clear instructions/guidelines, which led to lots of confusion from students.
Probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had, he gets lost so many times while talking. Takes extremely long to grade papers that he urges you to turn in on time. Cannot explain things well when asked, the study guides are a complete mess they have absolutely nothing to with the test. If have chance to look this review do not take his class.
