Good instructor gets bad rap for his aloofiness. Show up study! study! study quiz are difficult unforgiving when grading exams. Test are easiser from the difficult quizzes prior. Take notes and learn from your mistakes in quizzes.

Has a bad rap for being a **** and for being tough, but all in all an excellent teacher that takes an individual interest in his students sucess. Makes off color remarks but also brings organic reactions to life by anthropomorphizing everything.

May not appear to be such a good teacher at the beginning because of strict grading.But when u get to know him more, u will like him.Very helpful and good personality. Not a easy teacher, but highly recommend. Definitely going to take his Chem8B

Lectures are detailed & you don't have to read the book as long as you take good notes. Tests are directly from the notes & labs. Tests are hard & cover the material from the lectures.

I've loved having Dr. Sy as my teacher. He's smart, funny, and I think he does a pretty good job at being a teacher/comedian. I would highly recommend him to anyone that needs to take Chem 2A.

For once I finally understand chemistry! Dr. Sy is very good at explaining concepts in detail. It's refreshing to have a science teacher with a sense of humor as well. A little hard on grading, but just take good notes and study hard and you'll be okay.

Geek plaid + geek humour = fun class. Lecture notes distill pertinent info. Hard to get lost in a class where Prof draws a map, sticks to the plan, provides water and rest stops with corny jokes.

Class has an inverse bell curve. Lots of people doing really well and lots of people who are absolutely sucking. How can this be?

I was going to be a doctor and save lives in Africa, but after experiencing the Sy-man, I think I'll be a chemistry professor.

Better than the alternatives. Better looking than Wood, funnier than Barnett. Make your life easier, choose Sy over the others.

In any case, subject involves lots of work. Feels like a 5 unit class, but the prof distills the needed info in his lectures from the vast amount of material

The last test is a lot harder than the first two. The instructor is approachable and very helpful.

Seemed a little distracted/tired towards end of semester. Other than that, a fine teacher.

Lots of people getting A's. Lots of people getting D's. He's a good prof. If you're not doing well, put more time into studying.

just take notes and review it before the test/exam, then you can ensure get a good grade. he keeps taking good note.

I learned more, faster in Dr. Sy's class than I did in a comparable chem class at a "reputable" 4-year university. He gives very well-paced, clear lectures. The notes are almost always all you ever need (say that 5 times fast).

O Chem is hard and Sy will prepare you well when you transfer. He writes on the board in great detail about the subject during every lecture. Ask meaningful questions during his office hours and he will try to help you.

At first, sort of weirdo and NEVER looks in the eye. Then comes the little edge, sensual jokes. In the end, he's a sweet and humorous professor. STICK to the notes and use quizzes to prepare for exam. His weirdness makes me laugh and class becomes funny.

Study the study guides, remember all the definitions, they are all on the tests. He's weird, and doesn't look you in the eye, don't take it personaly. Sex jokes are borderline harassments, but ignore those to get through the class. Study notes, don't even need the book! I hate Chem and I got a B.

Although Dr. Sy is the most difficult professer i have ever had, he prepares his students for transfering. I still love Organic chem although his picky grading didn't show on my final grade. Cool guy and funny. Take him only if you're prepared to do extensive hw. Don't fall behind!

Whether you are a chem major or you just need the credits, he is the ONLY teacher to take - bar none. Also, he is a nice guy who likes to joke and goof around - but not so much as to interupt the lecture. Good luck if you choose another teacher (especially Barnes!!!) Be warned.

This is the best teacher ever, I used to have chem in highschool now, with his teaching method its all easy.. I know its only a low chem class, but its fun .and all u have to do is study his notes and review his test.. thats it.. I took him for a year, O CHEM is not the most exciting class in the world. But he is clear, and tries to prepare students for Univ. and Med school. He also tells u whats going to be on the quizes and tests although u never get an A even u know what's on the test.. because its O.Chem. bottom line, he teaches well.

This class was very easy, he gives us some bonus points in tests to pull up the average grade. I sometimes had higher than 100% on the tests. Sometimes his explanations are quite unclear, but he will help you to understand. funny guy~ take his classes.

But if you're weak at memorization, this will be a tough class cuz you basically just have to memorize your notes, and he gives alot. He repeats himself often. He's hilarious though! He pays attention in every single word (& your grammar) u write there (especially in chem 8B). Also, deduct lots of points for a minor mistake. It was a tough class but Dr. Sy will helpp you with all the study guides and examples. Attendance is very important. I reccomend taking his class. Just make sure you label all units (L, M, ml, etc.) and have your sig figs counted right.

Believe it or not I lost 10 pounds and great deal of my nerves, when taking his class, but honestly he is the best in his job. Although he is extremely and freakishly picky, he pushes you to learn chemistry the way you will never forget. After all the subject is hard. If you want to get an A, follow his instructions "precisely" as he says.

If you actually put time and effort into studying notes, study guides, and pay attention in lecture; you will do fine. Dr. Sy gives clear, concise lectures that you HAVE to review to do well on tests for. He's picky but only because he wants us to grasp the material correctly. Professor Sy is the best chemistry teacher I've had at PCC. He's hilarious and keeps the class focused. He makes sure everyone understands the information before moving on. Sy is an awesome chemistry Professor. I had previously taken Chem 2A with a DUMB ASS for a professor at the same college, but Dr Sy is crystal clear in what he teaches. He is extremely repetitive with the material he wants you to learn that is why most of his students pass with A's and B's. Thank you Dr Sy for being such a great instructor.

Professor Sy, is a really dope professor like NO LIE. His classes were very entertaining and also very challenging. Sy will give you study guide's all his quizzes and test. STUDY!!!! if not you will not pass!! STUDY IS A HABIT IN THIS CLASS. Also, ask questions!! Dont be afraid to speak up in this class, if you have a question ask it. WHAT UP SY

Professor Sy is a great Chem professor. He gives handouts to prepare for quizes and exams which is very helpful. He knows the subject inside and out by. Gives you chances to gain extra credit. He is very specific and clear about what he expects. It is very fun to be in his class he has a great sense humor.

Doctor Sy is a great prof. He gives a lot of hand-out to study and practice for quizzes and exams. His lecture is clear and easy to understand. If I can, I will take his class again.

Took 2A and 2B back to back. It's a fun class when everyone interacts. Form GOOD study groups and you'll pass. Study study study!!! He gives out study guides for quizzes and exams. Lots of extra credit and does want you to pass. He's really a great and funny professor and I would definitely retake him again.

This class is not an easy A. You have to do the work, put effort in, and participate to get a good grade. Prof. Sy is very concise in his lectures, gives out and goes over review sheets for quizzes and exams. He offers plenty of opportunities for extra credit. There are in class tutors (which I was) who happily help students who seek them out.

Took Chem 2A&2B with Dr. Sy in one summer. Passed both classes with As and was a tutor for Chem 2B. He is hands down one of the best chemistry professors I had ever taken and made chemistry, one of the most difficult subjects, easy. Extra credit provided as well as study guides to prep you for the quizzes and tests. Chemistry is doable with Dr. Sy.

Professor Sy is great! Anyone who says otherwise is just lazy. He gives more then enough opportunity to get a good grade in the class. He takes time to make sure you understand what he's teaching. I highly recommend him!

Dr Sy is the most knowledge professor in my many science classes. he is wiling you pass his class with A and he will offer a lot extra to help you pass the class. he is full of humor and nice guy( sometimes inpatient), but you will clearly to know what area will be on the exam. he is the good person and really care about your grade. take him!

Just show up on time and get extra credit. His class is only difficult because it is chemistry. He is very funny and actually teaches very well. His study guides are on point and gives lots of opportunity for extra credit. The final, that was made by another professor, did not allow to get the next grade up. Just put in the effort. Not an easy A!

His exams and quizzes are very similar to the study guides that he provides, make sure to study those thoroughly. I'd say the final exam was a bit tough since it was not written by him. But other exams and quizzes were doable. Make sure to come to every class, he offers extra credit for perfect attendance. Very nice professor. STUDY EVERYDAY.

He provides a lot of study guides and extra credit. Make sure to go to class every day because he gives you points at the end of the semester. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! I would have gotten a better grade if I studied more for the final. He lets you out early if you finish your lab quick. Picky grader as well. Be careful with sig figs and calculations!

Chem 2a in the winter is hard core ! Be prepared to work hard and seriously consider NOT taken this class if youre not a hard worker ! Work hard and you WILL PASS but if not.... FAIL. This professor gives chance to get extra credit to pass if you work for it. I loved the class as it was fast paced and interesting. You should join a study group!

He is a tough grade but if you come to class and study hard you will pass the class.I did not think I could handle a 6 week class but Professor Sy showed me if I put in the work I can do it. This class has shown me a side of myself I did not know was in me. Not an easy class but if you put in the work you will pass!

Professor Sy Is a great professor! He does his best to explain and relate the material to everyday life so it's easier to understand. Taking his course has made me a better student because I really had to practice self disipline when it comes to studying. Taking this class over the winter not only taught me chemistry but about myself and my classmates. I had to really push myself in this class. It's not an easy pass. He is willing to help you but you have to show you're willing as well. He allows us to work with our classmates which is very helpful. James Sy is straightforward and hilarious.

Professor Sy is by far the best chemistry professor I have taken at PCC. He takes time to explain the material. He gives lots of extra credit and he is hilarious. He tends to make the class fun and worthwhile at times. When it comes to assignments and participation he is very picky if one does not do the work correctly.

While in chem2A I learned alot from professor Sy. He is a great teacher as he will go into depth on subjects and make what is difficult feel more easy to work through. Be prepared to work hard. chemistry is a hard subject and Sy expects that you put in the work.

Got to study to pass just like any class but taking his class in short semesters is pretty difficult. But chem 2a with him was a great choice. He offers extra credit, you have to go to lectures and with lectures you won't need the book.

The class is tough during the short semester. However, it depends on how consistent and hard working you are. I've tried as best as I can and still think that it's not enough. I also appreciate the tutors chosen by Dr. Sy since they helped me a lot. What I need to be improved is more practices and formula memorizing and significant figure training.

Ive learned a lot from this class. At first I thought it was going to be overwhelming but once things picked up, I decided it was going to be an interesting class. I like the idea of having team leaders-it adds a practical aspect-one that can be applied to the real world.

Overall, taking Dr. Sy's Chem 2A class over the winter was a great experience for me. No hw, no textbook required. He provides us all of the material for the quizzes/ test from his lectures. I took this class in Winter 18. I didn't know what I was putting myself through by taking it in a 6 week term but it is doable if you are ready to work hard. Although he is a tough grader by marking off points for the littlest things he gives a lot of extra credit.

Chemistry is a hard subject but the professor explains it in a detailed manner, step by step which makes it easy to understand. Class time is not enough you will have to put time and effort outside of class to understand the lectures well. There are assigned in class student tutors who are willing to help throughout the semester it really helps!

I took Chem 2A in Winter 2018. Professor Sy really tries to make Chemistry relatable to real life situations for better understanding. Prior to each quiz and each test your are given a study guide review it over and over the test layout is the exact same! In class tutors can help with anything you're not sure on use them willingly! I had prof. Sy in the summer 2018 and his class was really straight forward and pretty easy. Everything he gives you on the study guide is exactly on the test. If youre one of those idiots who dont pay attention then youre screwed. Easy A guaranteed.

If you have some background with chemistry and study well you'll do fine. He is very specific about how you show your work for tests and quizzes. He does give extra credit that actually helps your grade.

Took him in Winter 2018 and he makes 16 weeks of work doable in 6 weeks. He writes notes out on the board and gives you the lecture notes as well which I found to be effective. The quizzes and the tests are exactly like the practice ones he gives so STUDY THEM. Hes a very particular grader but he also gives a TON of extra credit.

I took Chem 2A with Dr. Sy for the short winter course. He is very particular and picky/detailed when it comes to grading, but his lectures are extremely straightforward. If you take good notes and study hard, you can do really well in his coursehis tests closely follow his study guides.

Great teacher. I took him for Summer 2019. He is extremely clear in his lectures and he writes down everything you need to know. You do not need the book. A lot of extra credit available. He truly wants everyone to get an a. Just do your part. Pay attention and study a little.
