you could learn alot from this guy. sometimes he even refers to himself as a first-class jack a##
Tries to intimidate at first. If you do the work & reading, you'll make an A or B; very clear lectures, he can teach! You can learn a lot.
he's horrible as a teacher, his lectures have mostly to do with his personal life. use the website in the book and take the quizzes, thats where his test questions come from.
Excellent teacher! Only the slow and dumb don't like him, because they want their education handed to them on a silver platter. You'll work in this class, but you'll learn a lot...plus he makes geography interesting.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!
He plays favorites and pushes his personal veiws.
The class is hard, but he is a good teacher and wery interesting. Study before quizzes and you wiil be fine. He is a challenge!
I took this guy online twice- Take the online quizzes and practice exams and memorize them. From his emails- I could tell that I didn't want to actually be around him.
Very interesting guy to have for a grandpa. Tells nice stories about his life. Very hard class. I couldnt have passed the final if I read the book from cover to cover 12 times and studied the other questions!! I wanted to cry it was so hard.
Expect to learn from the book. I didn't understand how he taught. I will either fail or get a D. If you're not completely interested in weather then do NOT take this. He makes it difficult to understand.
hard as hell
The class is passable, but it's hard. The questions on bearkatonline ARE the test, and the answers are all in the reading. The lectures are irrelevant, but you have to show because he counts attendance. I suggest printing the questions ASAP and reading for the answers during the lectures; if you want an easy class, take someone else.
Despite what people say, I think he's a good professor. Diffucult at times, but if you'd use, oh I don't know, COMMON SENSE you wouldn't have trouble especially with his online classes. He writes out EVERYTHING and makes it clear as a bell.
Best Prof on campus
I love Dr. Tiller. He is a GREAT professor. People just want teachers that are easy. Easy is not always good. You have to learn too. I recommend him to anyone
ok....he has the nickname "tiller the killer" for a reason! I studied night and day for his tests and I still only made a C. He had no interest in answering my questions without having a rude comment. Granted he is an interesting person...I would
Total ****. Hard grader, won't help you when you need it without telling you you're stupid. Total ass.
He is a big time jerk and he does not give a crap if u fail or pass his class. If u can avoid him please do (he is known as TILLER DA KILLER!!!!!!!)
Do not take Tiller the Killer unless you plan on spending every second studying and are actually interested in the subject! His lectures are way too detailed, and the tests are horrible.
Tiller was actually a gentlemen to me. He actually helped me out, without making me feel like a complete idiot. I made a B in the class... I have NO idea how! :)
Ok teacher but I only take his classes online. His online classes are easy he gives very detailed outlines of every chapter. and online notes are all you need for the test. The only thing that you have to do for the class is take the tests and there are no due dates so you can take them when ever you want.
His tests aren't that too complicated if you study. For the most part he is a good teacher, but very hard. If you have questions, he will answer them. Overall avg. teach
WARNING!! Don't take this teacher if you are prone to excessive absences, don't study, or are generally lazy. His entire class is composed of 2 exams, 1 written paper, and the final. Tests are generally 100 questions in length and VERY detailed. Good news-he offers plenty of study material on his website. Bad news-tests are still VERY difficult.
Amazing! You have to study but he makes the class very interesting!
Study his TF questions online; THEY ARE KEY! If you have a photographic memory, even better. Figure out how to get organized with the TF questions. I could explain it, but it would take more than 350 words. In the end, you will have spent well over 20 hours studying for each exam.
Do not take this professor unless it's you're major... it's a great class if you need to know the material for later on, but EXTREMELY difficult and, quite frankly useless, otherwise. He's a really nice guy, but has a tendency to get off topic and not know what chapters he is teaching
AVOID AN INTERNET COURSE WITH THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS! He does not answer any questions you might have, he only demands that you pay attention the first time you receive the information. DO NOT put the readings off.
the online class was hard. Have to read and study alot and he doesn't help. He floods you with emails and if you send a question you will never get a response. Just take a correspondence corse to avoid him and his online class
This was an online class. He tried to be a ass in the emails but to me it was just funny. No curves, No extra credit. Tests over 4 long chapters and 100 questioned tests with 1hr and 45 min. Good Luck...I just wanted to pass.
Worst professor ever. 5 test 1 final no drop grades and random quizzes. He make test very difficult as if he wants the entire class to fail and then he boast about it. He accidentally marked me absent 3 times when i was there which resulted in 10 points being taken off my grade unless i wrote a 7 word sentence 10,000 times. He also cut the 200 ques
wow! that class was hard! I studied so much I actually learned! Earned that A!
Online class. Exams were straight forward right from the review, 100 TF questions 60mins. The map location sections were ridiculously 100 questions 30mins, hardly enough time to scroll through it and click an answer, you MUST have the locations memorized or else cant make it in the time limit. Uses his own website, which is HORRIBLE! Decent class.
Tiller is a nice enough guy but his class was extremely difficult and I'm the kind of person who likes a challenge. I studied more for his class than any other I've ever taken and I have a D to show for it. He rarely lectures about what he tests over and reading the chapters will do you no good. The only thing that helps at all is the fact that he
Terrible Prof The tests are crazy hard and he is all around a jerk.He told our class that if we had any problems DO NOT call him or come see him in his office. I studied for at least a hour a day and when I got to the tests it was nothing like what the book says & His tests are over the stupid things he talks about in class. He gets off subject alot
Dude is an ass and you ca tell he really doesn't like students or teaching, if he ever did. BUT...if you do EXACTLY what he says in syllabus (ridiculously long, all red and bold syllabus) you will have no problems. I had several questions, and because I did EXACTLY what he said to do, I received answes usually w/in an hour. Made As for 2net classes
I took him for GEO 131&111. The class was hard, but this is college. Slackers should avoid him. If you want to learn something take him. Highly recommended. I took him online and 2 B's. His lectures get detailed, but he teaches you what you need to know- no surprises on the exams.
(GEO 131 & 111) This is a class for people with decent intellect. If you want an easy way out, don't take the class. He presents material that is very interesting; I learned a whole lot. If you're curious about weather and climates, check this out. I recommend on-line for the lecture and lab; you'll work hard, but that's what college is about.
This class was pretty easy, but the prof was rude when I asked him questions. His bold red ink colored syl shows his rudeness.
The material was not hard, I passed. But I HATE this teacher because he made the class excruciating! I took the class online, and while he was quick to answer any emails, all responses were so snide and vague you might as well have not asked the question at all. He's the "you figure it out yourself" kind of teacher and is REALLY rude about it.
Please be forewarned..he is tough, rude and has numerous questions on the tests that were not covered in any of course material. The online course allows for him not interact with his students and to tell you to learn it on your own..find another professor and class for your science.
I'm usually an A student. I worked harder in this class than almost any other class I've taken, but I haven't learned anything and the best grade I can hope for is a C, but I'm expecting to fail. To call this guy an educator is like calling the ocean red.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HIM! I took this online lab, and he was so completely rude. he answers e-mails but short and rude when answering. All I did was stress for the whole class. I worked HARD and pulled out a C. And I know many who failed. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Straight from his Course Syllabus: "In a word or two: If I catch you engaged in any form of academic dishonesty, I will pursue the matter to the bloody end and do all in my power to not only remove you from the class, and give you the grade of "F" that you so richly deserve. I will also do all that I can to have you removed from the University."
131 Lab-I would recommend taking this lab in classroom. Final grade is mainly based on mid-term(35%) and final(35%). For a 1 credit class it is A LOT of work! The one thing that really bothered me is that you can't see what you got wrong on quizzes so you don't know what you need to work on for mid-term and final. I got a B and I am glad it's over!
I took this class online. The professor is not very helpful. The amount of work is A LOT for a 1 credit class. DO NOT take this class.
TX Geo-3 T/F Exams-No Book-Look up all the info online. Was frustrating at times as some of the links he provides don't work. 3 Map Exams-Easy-Just memorize locations. Class was surprisingly easy for a level 4000. It only took a month to finish. Don't procrastinate!
Texas. 3 100 question True and false exams. No book. You have to look up everything online. It was frustrating at times because some of the links he provides do not work. 3 easy map exams. Just memorize locations. Surprisingly easy for a 4000 level class. No time frame so you can finish quick. Finished in about a month. DO NOT procrastinate.
US and Canada by correspondence. Very easy class but very time consuming. I would not recommend taking this during semester. 100 true and false questions per chapter. 4 exams over book material. It takes forever to find all the answers. Memorize all true answers and you will do fine on exams. 4 easy map tests. Just memorize all locations.
I didn't expect this class to be so consuming. The way he has the notes set up were so confusing. Everything from the labs to the lecture notes were hard to understand. When you asked him to assist you, he would often respond rudely. He didn't seem to be much help in person either from what other students tell me.
Look believe me when I tell you, this professor is not the one to take... 4 exams that have multiple chapters and the test question that prepares you for the class is not helpful at all. He ask questions that were not in the study material... I am not a slacker and nor will I ever be... I gave my attention to this class - he is just too hard!!!!
This class is by far the most DREADFUL course I've ever taken in my entire academic career! The course consists of 5 extremely difficult exams, and 2 years worth of info to study for them!!! The professor is not helpful at all, and offers NO assistance. I'm normally an A student, and this course murdered my GPA!! I got a C, but barely!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!!!! This course is dreadfully difficult, and a large amount of test are required for a 1 credit course!!! Save yourself the time and agony!! Avoid this class at all costs!!
This class was horrible, avoid taking it if you can. The lab was FAR more work than a 1 credit should be. He does not communicate with the class besides sending automated reminder emails and says do NOT ask him for clarification on answers in the study materials, but to just study more. He basically posts material for you to learn on your own.
He does not help his students learn in an online class at all. All he does is post the material and expect you learn every tiny detail from the book or lecture, but even then, the tests are just ridiculous. I got a B, but would refuse to take this class again even if someone paid me. Avoid it at all costs.
This was an extremely hard class. It's self paced, so I just finished as fast as possible. His site is overwhelming, but after some time I figured out all his links/pages and how to work best with them. I probably would not take him as a teacher again, unless I had no other choice. I made a C, I'm typically a A/B student.
Tiller is very hard. He failed me. I did exams as he allows 3 attempts but he only counts first attempt. He is just making money easy in Sam Houston State University. He need to help to student more than just shooting emails everyday same thing!! I rate him 1 out of 5. I have to find another science class to fulfill my science part.
While this lab is quite hard, & you do have to teach yourself(granted you should have known most from lecture)it is manageable if you are disciplined & follow directions. If you are lazy, & want to work for your grade, you shouldn't take this class. He is very clear in what he expects if you read directions. I made a B & finished class in 2 weeks.
Tiller was not helpful. I emailed him for help and he referred to a tutor who was a better teacher than him. I am an all A student normally. I busted my butt on this class and was happy with a B. He does not make it clear where to find the information on tests. I would NOT recommend this class to ANYONE
Made the horrible mistake of taking his online weather and climate class. Failed it. Its extremely hard, and he almost seems to want you to fail. Do not take this professor unless its life or death.
I took his weather and climate class online and it was one of the hardest things i've ever had to do. Finished the class part no problem, but the labs are impossible. He basically wants you to fail. I emailed him 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive a response. DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU DONT HAVE TO!
I HATED THIS COURSE! By far one of the toughest I've attempted at Sam. There was just way too much reading and the lab didn't correspond with where the class was (also online and through Tiller). Often the lab readings didn't sufficiently cover what was on the quizzes. You're on your own. I even had to go to tutoring! Avoid like the plague!!
I signed up for the class and was having problem with the course material showing and I emailed him about it because every time it would happen it would always refer me to check my email as if there was suppose to be something there. Lets just say I dropped the course with no problem or regrets. I should of read the reviews beforehand.
Absolutely horrible teacher! He assigns readings and then asks completely different questions on the tests. Quizzes and tests are timed only 1 minute per question. When u ask for help he ignores you.
Was able to tell right away that he's a tough instructor and grader after reading his emails. Had to send multiple Student Agreement forms just because they weren't done correctly. Also asked him for help and he didn't help at all. Happily dropped his class with no regrets. Advice: DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Very tough class if you dont read what he tells you to read, including every word of "agreement forms". Everything you need to make an A is there in black and white but alot of people dont read, and just skim agreements, emails and reading. Very adult-like, be an adult and it wont be a problem. information was a little difficult to grasp
I'm a junior and this is the worst class I've taken. It's the only class I've ever complained about. His spelling is atrocious, he dumps massive amounts of data on you without any clarity or explanation. I am halfway through all of the tests/exams, and every test has had multiple questions with the wrong answers. worst professor and class so far!!!
The lectures do not correspond with the book. There are questions with the wrong answers. He knows there are some so he gives a 5 pt curve instead of fixing them, which is confusing. There was way too much reading without any objectives. The lab manual gets confusing and they aren't in sequence with the chapters.
This was by far the worst class I have ever taken. I did very well on the lecture portion of the class but the lab quizzes were almost impossible to pass. The instructor repeatedly sends e-mails for no reason and anytime you have a question he tells you to read the policies. Way to much reading and its very overwhelming. Don't take this class!
Took this as a summer coarse. LOTS of reading just to get started. He comes off as intimidating. You only take3tests and 3map tests. No book, you have to find answers online. If you take the time to look up all the answers to the study guides, you will do fine. The maps aren't super confusing either. It's pretty straight forward, just a lot of work
This professor is sarcastic and unhelpful.
I am a senior that took this freshman level course (weather and climate lecture and lab online) and it is by far the worst thing I have ever done to myself. The quizzes are nearly impossible to pass and the professor is TERRIBLE. He is not helpful at all. This class took up the majority of my time this semester.
Very hard class.
This professor really is horrible and uses his position at SHSU to get away with it. Had to waste a Q drop to save my GPA AND to keep from becoming jaded about Sam. Discussion board full of lost students and he only cares enough to say "study more". Classy. The material isn't difficult, it's just full of errors and there's no direction offered.
Do. Not. Take. This. Class. This teacher is absolutely horrible. This class is absurd. If you need help with the class, screw yourself. He doesn't even attempt to help you. Thanks to this class I have a great possibility of losing my financial aid. He could care less. He knows quizzes don't coincide with the material but doesn't fix it. Avoid this.
He put all of the lectures online and all of the exams and told us to have them complete by the end of the semester. There was no homework, assignments, extra credit, nothing, just exams. Most of the questions on the exams were not in his lecture notes so i would suggest reading the book and also finding outside sources to help study.
he posts study aids that have review questions for 3 tests and only uses questions from there. BUT there are literally 123-200 ?'s on the reviews & only 75 on test. Then theres a 2nd part where u have to locate a ridiculous amount of landmarks in TX.. he lists about 50-80 but only 25 on test. amount of infogeog major class. DO NOT TAKE HIM !!!
He never messaged us back when we sent him emails for help. His quizzes were hard and some of the material was not on the review or notes he provided. Exams were not to bad but a lot of reading was required. Would not take his class again especially if its not for my major or minor.
Reading is VERY important in this class. Not in the sense of covering all of the material, but in the sense of decoding the secret to passing this class. IT IS IN PLAIN SIGHT!!!!!. It is TOO much information to obtain PERIOD and he knows that. If you love a mystery this is the class for you. If not, don't even think about thinking about taking it.
Took the summer minimester...I started two weeks after the course began and the next 13 days were HELL. lecture exams (answers on review questions)super easy. 11 lab quizes and those are HARD!(20 ques. & 20 mins)YOU MUST READ AND DO ALL THE LABS!key to psssing is understanding EVERYTHING!(Google will NOT, I REPEAT WILL NOT HELP ON LAB QUIZES)
Make sure you read all of the fine print( and there is a lot of fine print). The course is not layedout very well and has a lot of redundancy. All corse material is spread out in a seemingly never ending amount of folders and sub folders so you have to dig for information. The exams are not so bad but the trouble comes from the lab exams..
No rhyme or reason to his "power points." It is just paragraph after paragraph of non-sense unless you already have an understanding of weather. 4 Lecture exams. 12 mandatory labs, 12 lab quizzes, a comprehensive midterm and a comprehensive final over labs. If you want to pass, you have to READ, READ, READ and devote A LOT of time to class.
Filled with an unnecessary amount of info. The lab quizzes and tests are tough, not all questions are on the 2119 page reviews (yes there are that many). Too much to learn in short periods of time, 1 min perQ. DO NOT take him if your are a full time student, you will not do well. If a prof. is not listed when choosing this course, he 's the prof.
This guy is so rude through email and I am surprised he is still teaching. I feel like he just sits at home BECAUSE he is not EVER on campus and lives in San Antonio and the lab manual is over $120 and required and if you fail the lab you fail his course NO EXCEPTIONS ... TAKE FACE TO FACE with someone else ... YOU will REGRET it if not
This guy is a joke. He is extremely rude, and his constant repeated emails show that along with his syllabus. He has a fetish for red and blue text, because almost all of his instructions are completely covered with them. He does not help you, and does not answer emails. The labs are very tough; almost impossible to pass. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
I can tell you put in the effort and do NOT procrastinate and you will do well. The lecture exams are easy but the lab exams are direct questions different wording from the lab manual which is over $120 and required. It is a hard class if you wait like most people do but if you get it done and actually put in the work you will be fine and pass!!!!!
I took his online class during the summer and I immediately began to work b/c I heard he was hard. The lecture is portion is easy but the lab is difficult. I recommend taking the lab in person b/c google will NOT help ! At times I felt as if he wanted his students to fail, but if you are dedicated and work hard, you will pass! :)
This is a very easy A class but dont expect professor involvement. I did an online lecture and in person lab once a week- best combo. There's just 5 exams in this online lecture, thats it. Theyre very easy and not proctored. He seems very overwhelming at first and its scary because he puts everything in red caps but theres nothing to it
Took both online lab & lecture. If you're motivated you can finish with an A. Nice thing is there is no due date till the semester ends. Lab is difficult I had to watch videos provided to learn the material (30 mins long), and I got a B in the lab (25% of grade). Got an A in lecture (75% of grade) so my final grade was an A. Be on top of it.
Do not take him. This was the hardest class I have ever taken in 6 years of college. I retook the same class with a different professor and got an A+. This is where the professor REALLY matters. I saw rate my professor and thought I could do it regardless: I was dead wrong. Do not make the same mistake I did.
