Not a good professor.
Mr. Know-it-all. I wish he would put as much effort into good instruction as grandstanding.
self-involved, uneducational lecture content. not good.
not a good professor
one of my worst college experiences. rambles on about himself and dismisses students concerns with aloofness.
Class is pretty boring, and pretty redundant. The key is that the tests are online, which allows you every opportunity to take as long as you want on the test, using your book and the internet as resources. I never once studied for that class and flew by with an A.
This guy just can't shut up about himself! He talks on and on in circles! My hole class was feed up with him by the end. He's an alright teacher sometimes, but since he takes forever explaining things that make it all the more confusing, it leaves little class time to work.

goes off on tangents
He is stuck on himself for some undetermined reason.
I took this class online. I got an A. His tests are pretty easy. Make sure you review your previous tests for the cumulative final.
he was a very good teacher to me. I learned a lot with him and i recommend him for anyone else who wants to go into Psychology.
well when i left his class i left with a lot more interest of psych, but i just dont know if i would want him as a teacher
Into himself, doesn't keep office hours, strange lecture style.
I thought my psychology class would be boring, but he made it entertaining and interesting. He takes the time to talk to students after class if they have questions or just want to know more and he answers emails right away. The tests were online which was good because you can take it when you have time. I'd take another class from him. An A+ prof!
Dull uninteresting professor. He is hands-off, using scantron tests and dismissing student's needs. Don't take James Todd.
Catch up on sleep in this class, but may not learn anything!
Self-aggrandizement at its worst. This class is a misguided attempt to make serious, important statements despite having nothing, really, to say.
He will try to frighten you away at first. He acts like he is mean in the beginning but he is not a bad guy at all. He is not an easy A either though. His exams are difficult for the most part. Make sure you don't miss any classes, take good notes, and consider recording his lectures. You'll be glad you did. You'll learn a lot too.
Subject matter is high school level. He's late for class and wants to be somewhere else. Sometimes what's on his tests are not covered in lecture or reading.
If Eastern Michigan University were a basketball game, this class would be a flagrant foul.
This class has not one whit of personality. The professor may as well be a cardboard cutout with empty thought bubbles.
Jim Todd doesn't add anything interesting, special, or memorable to our understanding of psychology.
A lazily structured Frankenstein of a class; bland, worthless, and unimaginative points stitched together in a way the professor hopes you won't notice aren't connected in any meaningful way.
Dr. Todd was the Acting Dept. Chairperson and was very helpful. Dr. Todd could always be engaged in discussion during his office hours and helped. He reminds one of the classic prof you would meet at say MIT in Cambridge. Dr. T is an extremely objective man who seems unappreciated anymore. Dr. T offers lots on the computer. Give him a chance.
My concentration starts to drift after a few minutes. I feel like I should be somewhere else and I've lost the ability to apply myself. After this, I've lost my interest in psychology alltogether.
He's funny in a weird, cynical way. You have to be paying attention and engaged to get his odd humor. He's a textbook professor: not very personable. His tests are lecture-based, but he throws in random book questions too. I skimmed the chapters and I went back to look up the questions because the tests are online. Laugh at his jokes, he'll like y
Nice enough guy, but not at all clear about what he wants to say. Gets sidetracked really easily and spends most classes talking about how horrible every other psychologist is except himself. Tests aren't bad, just take notes and read the book. Doesn't return emails and not very helpful when you ask him a question.
Absolute worse class I've ever taken. The man talks about stuff that has nothing whatsoever to do with the course material, and then tests you on it. He is rude to students, unhelpful, and just a terrible teacher. Do NOT take this professor!!!
super cool
Didn't President Obama put an end to this kind of torture?
By far the worst professor Ive ever had easily gets side tracked and tests are very difficult he is difficult to understand and makes you feel like an idiot STAY AWAY!!!
As an admirer of the science of psychology, I'd rather assume this class didn't exist.
Gets sidetracked easily - tests on irrelevant material - doesn't follow the book, but insists that students study it
Qualifies as the worst experience I've ever had in higher education.
LOVED LOVED LOVED!!! One of my favorite professors! Tests aren't that bad and enjoyed class :)
Desperately screaming for significance.
I thought he was an awesome prof. He did go off on tangents, but it related to the material. We were only tested on things he told us about the class before the test, and it was online. What are you all complaining about? He was funny and very knowledgeable. I suppose if you don't like that you won't like him.
You get a certain sour feeling from all this that's unmistakable. It has a certain smugness and self-glorification that's unnecessary and demeaning.
Bored yawns are commonplace from nearly everyone waiting for this semester's biggest mistake to come to its seemingly never-to-end conclusion.
Comes across as unorganized and unimportant, and the execution seems to barely require an effort.
Outstanding class. I learned so much from him and the negative posts here don't even make sense. Go to class and keep up with the reading if you want to pass the tests.
Just Terrible! The only thing I learned is that I don't want to take this professor again.
James T Todd loves nothing more than to talk about himself and rats. He is an arrogant little boy who talks in circles. He loves accusing people of cheating and talking about how smart he is. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM.
Easy A. He comes off as unorganized but what he teaches is related to the exams and are about the experiments that were conducted and about their respective psychologists. Even more, attendance does not matter: you take 4 online exams, and one final, then drop the lowest grade. Too bad he gets stuck with freshman. Oh noes! It's so hard! Grow up.
I was the only one to ask questions in class, of which he answered and stayed after for any remaining questions. I guess people want everything spoon fed to them, as if this A wasn't already. Exams are hard, online, and with a week-long time limit to use the book and internet. And who isn't egotistical? You'd know this if you were paying attention.
terriable teacher. all he talks about are rats, and himself. did not prepare me for tests.
he is a very brilliant man. his classes are hard, but only because he really knows his stuff. he can be a bit intimidating, but honestly, that kept me motivated. I have taken two classes with him so far and have worked hard in both, and received A's.
He is a brilliant teacher. He knows alot about his field. He talks extremely fast so it would be a good idea to record him during the review lectures. Test are based on lecture and info from his website. He will go over the material as many times as you ask him to
You MUST study all material!!
He is incredibly smart. His tests were challenging, but I learned a ton. I would definitely take him again. The negative ratings here are probably from people who think they shouldn't have to work for their grades. Don't be fooled by them. This prof is one of the good ones.
Todd is a very smart man who knows a lot about his field. He can be arrogant at times but he knows what he's talking about. As long as you stay on top of your notes and read the chapters you'll do fine on the tests. There is no hw, no quizzes, no extra credit.. all your focus is on the exams so time management shouldn't be hard. I learned a lot!
HORRIBLE teacher! He knows a lot but he can not teach. Most of the class period he talks about himself, the people he knows, and the research he has done. Class is just based off of test so if you aren't a good test taker then you shouldn't take his class. I really wouldn't recommend anyone to take this professor at all!
Dr. Todd's lectures are not straight from the book. You need to go to class and take notes. He speaks fast and often speaks about himself. However, he reviews before exams which is very helpful. It takes work to do well in this class.
If you're looking for a good psychology class, you may want to look elsewhere. This is an unfocused weird menagerie of meaningless talking points botched up with unfinished and irrelevant asides.
So many topics raised and it makes no sense at all.
Dreadful and draining exercise in which each lecture is nothing more than a big long preach-a-thon.
Jimmy is odd, but the class is easy. He outlines what you need to know, so don't miss a lecture. You really don't need to read the textbook either, but it's good for clarification. He likes to talk about things that are irrelavent to the class, and once gave a presentation he gives at conferences to waste time in lecture.
Is very nodd but helpful. Book used at your disgression. It helps to clarify what you are taught in class. You can not miss a lecture or you will be lost. If you ask for help he will give it to you. A very entertaining teacher.
Professor Todd was a very interesting and funny professor. He was extremely laid back and went over what exactly would be on the exam, and would even answer questions about what would be on the exam right before he passed it out. Oh, and he never gave homework. :)
Horrible experience and the readings didn't help. Ruined my interest in psychology forever.
This guy was HARD!! don't miss a class because you'll miss important notes for the tests. he reviews very quickly the day before the test, and his tests consist of somethings that he doesn't even cover during lectures. Book is basically unlesses as well
Not recommended. It's all about the instructor and it drains the enthusiasm to be in this.
I was really nervous before taking him but the class was pretty easy for me. Take it during the summer if you can (profs go easier on you). He talks a lot about his own research and experiences with well known psychologists but it's definitely to benefit the class. Be thankful that he reviews the material before the test at all, many profs don't.
This was a HORRIBLE Class. This was my last class for my degree, and the worst one in the entire program. Avoid Todd if you can!! Lectures are all over the place, make zero sense, and the exams are TOUGH. Very confusing and unorganized.
It's strange how everything is left undone. It's so incoherent that it's distracting.
He is very hard and goes extremely fast. He is all over the place and unwilling to slow down or repeat things as if its our problem that he goes so fast. Attend all lectures and take good notes. I have never that is unwilling to help you when you ask for it which is a bummer
I was very interested in taking this course. But this semester has been horrible taking it with the professor. He offers no help and does not respond to email. You have to attend class, and try to take notes because his notes and lectures are everywhere which causes confusion
Horrible class. Goes way to fast and after numerous times asking him to slow down you just give up. He does not stay on topic and is everywhere with his lecture. Not helpful and does not respond to emails.
There's something wrong here. How can something be so bad? A worthless exercise.
This professor is incredibly arrogant, obsessed with his own research. He will tell you pretty much everything you've ever learned is incorrect and how his research is much more superior to that of popular psychological thought. Most of your prior knowledge is useless because he insists it is false. Everything is based on the tests! Show up!
His tests suck. Horrible test writer. The worst exams I have ever taken. Not based on difficult material, but because he writes bad tests.
Look he's a nice guy and he has a lot of experience, he would do great in the field, but NOT as a professor. He makes every class feel sooo long. He talks about so much irrelevant information, you have no clue what you should be taking notes on and what you will actually be tested on. He talks about himself more than the material. Exams are hard.
you need to take good notes and get a student for back up notes so if you miss class you can get material, since all material is presented within class and there is no textbook and lecture notes generally not posted. He's a nice teacher. He will work with you as long as you are trying
Dr. Todd is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and cares about them learning more than just giving them tests. He is very knowledgeable, not just in the subject area but in many areas and will educate you on many things. I would recommend him to any students actually interested in learning.
Dr. Todd is one of the best profs I've had at eastern. If I could take every class with him, I would. Ignore what the other reviews say, he is super funny and passionate, just a little awkward. Grading criteria takes a bit to understand, but he will explain it to you if you ask and the way he does it helps you in the long haul.
Grade based on 4 exams plus a final. No extra credit or other homework. Very nice professor but lectures are hard to follow. Exams are extremely hard even if you do study! All exams were online but he said he sometimes changes that from each semester. Exams were not on lock down so you can look up some answers but still very hard.
This was my last class before graduation and it was by far the hardest class I have ever had to get through. Way too much information thrown at you and lectures are hard to follow. Exams are extremely hard, even upon attending class, and recording him. Timed exams set you up to fail, too many notes to go through to answer all the questions.
Dr. Todd is such a nice guy!! He is super nice, and provides study guides that cover everything that will be on the exam, for every exam!!
Professor Todd is a very tough grader. Lectures are extremely boring and drag on. Attendance is MANDATORY. Your grade will drop if you skip. If the class isn't participating be prepared for a pop quiz the next class.
This is the worst teacher a human can possibly have the displeasure of taking.I had a major emergency and missed like 2 classes, I emailed him a very detailed email and he completely ignored me. And when I ended up taking the test (and failing), he called me out in front of the whole class. I ended up withdrawing because he wasnt willing to help.
Out of all the professors that I have taken at EMU he is the worst that I have had, he is so difficult and I regret taking him over the other professor in this category. He only grades on 5 tests. While you have a week on exams, exam 4 and the final are just a few days apart from each other. HORRIBLE! DO NOT RECOMMEND! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!
So don't get me wrong he is good at lecturing and he seems like an overall great person. I took him for an Asynchronous class. He was never accessible. Never answered emails. His lectures were very long. I did the math and on average he lectured 4 hours a week. That's a lot for a 3 credit class. It's very heavy.
Took him for a 7.5 week asynchronous class. If you get an avg. of 90 points on the exams 1-3 and at least 80 points on the 4th, you dont have to take the final. He drops the lowest score and exams are open note. Compile all of the modules for each exam into a word doc and use control F to find things. Watch reviews. Always talks about his horse.
I was excited to take this class because I am going into ABA, but I regret taking it with him. Graded on 4 tests Lectures are confusing, and examples are mainly on his horses. No text book to help explain concepts. I would have loved some type of homework so that I could see how to use material in the field.
I have mixed emotions. He's a nice guy, but the amount of content is insane. I enjoyed his lectures, but they were always super long and complicated. The tests were pretty straightforward if you took notes straight from the lectures. I got tendinitis in my wrist from the amount of notes. If you take this class don't have a job or other classes.
I'm not going to act like this class isn't hard, Todd can go on tangents and asks difficult questions sometimes, but if you pay attention to class and take notes, you'll do just fine. He uploads video lectures and quiz reviews to Canvas, he drops the lowest quiz grade, and makes the final optional if you have at least 90%. He really does care!
save yourself and please look for another class
The rating should tell you enough.
Me and my fiends all decided to give his rating a 1 with high difficulty due to his lack of assignments. your grade is made up of 5 exams that are extremely difficult.
RUN AWAY ASAP
His class is impossible. Students are always stressed and he lectures for an hour about nothing and gives an exam that is impossible. he laughs at the students because they complain of difficulty. I don't know how he's even a teacher. I talked to my counselor and she explained how she got many complaints from his teaching she does not recommend.
He is the reason why I do not want to do psychology any more. I was depressed for months after taking his class.
I'm surprised he's even employed. What kind of teacher is this? Careless about students and explicitly said "My goal is to make this as difficult as I possibly can to teach you guys a lesson, many of you are not made for this work." What kind of teacher says that?? He ruined me and my friends mental health.
Does not answer emails. Boring lectures. Half the class stopped showing after the first month of school.
I regret doing this. I pray for you if you take this class.
We got off topic a lot in class, but the horse videos are great. Love it.
This professor was probably among the worst ones I've ever had. Graded by 4 exams. No extra credit because he doesn't "believe" in it. Boring lectures. Does not answer emails at all. I had him for an afternoon class and over half the class stopped showing up after the first exam. I should have dropped when I had the chance.
I've learned more from this class than any other. Graded on 4 exams, and an optional final. You will want to attend most classes because the tests are open note/book and taken at home, but answers are tough to search for. If you do miss a class, he posts thorough enough unit review videos. Tests are online so you can reference notes. Horses.
Super cool dude, I have no idea what everyone else is talking about. Class is pretty easy if you attend lectures and take good notes. He talks a lot about horses, and is pretty funny. His lectures are pretty engaging. Gives us dog pictures at the start of every lecture.
Engaging lectures, cares about his students, willing to provide good feedback if asked, if you attend lectures you are absolutely going to pass the class as long as you pay attention. Graded on 4 exams and a final paper, tests are open note/book and take home with long durations to complete. Genuinely a great professor. Posts all material used.
Overall, a very difficult class to succeed in. If you like a challenge, then go for it. If not, I do not recommend you take this class. Exam questions are worded very intellectual. It makes it confusing to understand what the question is even asking. He never answere my emails and it was upsetting because I was really seeking help but no response.
i enjoyed this class, he's a funny old guy. subject matter is tough, it's a lot to learn/memorize, but he made it as easy as possible. graded by 3 exams plus an optional final. be prepared to take lots of notes.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Lectures are boring, grading is unfair, and the class is ridiculously difficult. Try unstuck study for better study prep.
Worst professor I've ever had. Drunken incoherent rambling in over 40 hours of lecture videos (summer semester), no text book because "he doesn't agree with it" and no assignments to try and apply the information to gauge your understanding of the overload of information, a lot of which are not relevant to this class & just 4 exams that were hard.
Although everyone else on here doesn't seem to like him, he is a very great lecturer. When I'm in class it flies by from writing notes. He doesn't send out the notes so if you don't come to class you don't get the notes. He likes to talk a lot about random things that don't matter sometimes but I would take him again!
