Very insightful and helpful to students!
First thing in the morning...he's a bore. He tries...yeah.
cancels class when we're writing papers.. not the greatest teacher though
can you say tangent???? and enough Machiavelli!
boring class but go to him for help on essays and the gradings not bad
This class, is possably the most boring next to learning about scotch tape!
He doesnt explain what it is he wants to see, and he is the hardest grader i had

makes you write hard boring papers and talks too much about nothing at all
Good teacher, makes you think for your self, always positive towards class
At least you don't have to listen to him talking.. tune him out!
He's really good about helping with essays. Go to class and you'll be fine.
sooo boring and unclear
Helpful on essays, cancels class a lot for conferences, but kind of boring!
he is helpful and class is cancelled a lot, lots of Bs only a few As

please don't take him he's so unbelievably hard!
Hard class, makes you think, he's helpful, also cancels class alot
Class is horrable. Talks forever about nothing. Hardly no A's. Waist of time!!!
easy to get a, tells u exactly what he wants. allows rewrites. talks a lot tho
This guy sucks..grades hard in class and lectures about NOTHING
Expect to rewrite papers after he suggest something. very hard to please.
Nice guy, very helpful if you ask him. Papers are difficult but you learn a lot.
This is the ideal writing class if you have a desire to learn a lot. He is demanding and requires a lot of you in papers.
He's a playa!! Very helpfull and knowledgable as well. Great for all students.

For research papers, find out his stand on the topics and write from that. If you go against his argument, you will not receive a high grade. Not very open minded.
Very hip and asy going guy loves to surf he cursed alot in class as well to get his point across about the subject of the matter.
Not easy, u must be willing to work hard to achieve an A, he knows literature but his lectures tend to be boring, many people fell asleep during his lecture, he likes to surf and cuss during class.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS it shows him you are wiling to try youl at least know what he expects the essay to be about he gives prompts about essays w/what he will be looking for if unclear just ask and hes glad 2 help he gives day off to go ask him.i got an A
i got an A by just going to his office hours it helps if his prompts are not clear he gives u good hints if u ask what he expects... i didnt really work that hard to achieve an A i actually start my essays the day B4 theyre do
Great Class, Great Teacher, if you dont mind getting a B. Very hard to get an A, but worth it!
discussions were boring..but he's a cool teacher..he seems like a hard grader on papers but ends up not being so difficult..not so easy to get an A unless you visit his office hours
not easy...4 papers, a little confusing. tries hard to explain things but papers are still pretty hard. seems like a nice guy...just hard to get an A if thats what you want.
great teacher, sucky assignments
Knows what he is talking about, very knowledgable about literature, but assignments are pretty vague. He is more than willing to help you but sometimes his help can be even more confusing. Tries to make class intersting. LOTS of time to work on papers.

really great man and nice guy, but the material for the class is terribly boring. going to office hours cant be stressed enough, he basically tells you what he wants to see from your paper- cares a lot about his students
he cancels class ALL THE TIME! i had it mwf, and we met MAYBE twice a week. very vague on assignments, boring classwork/readings. better to just skip class and go to office hours. easy A if you know how to write worth a damn, though.
Towner is so out there but i respected him. he is so passionate about rhetoric and literature, therefore he loves teaching the subject. If you go to his office hours he will tell you exactly how to edit your paper to get a high grade on it..take towner.
helpful if you see him in office hours - hell show you what he wants in your paper. discussions are dead, partly because the material is exceedingly boring. hes nice and easy to get along with though.
Funny guy but the material was on extremely boring subjects, like the Frontier, that was hard to write about. Homework practically every night. Papers are so confusing. He could explain them so much better in class and on the handout, but if you want to understand you have to go to his office hours.
what can i say about this guy? he is genuine. he really trys his best to help you. Go to his office hours. really, though, go to his office hours. he is late most of the time but worth the wait. This was not an easy class. he gives a lot of homework--take it seriously
I think this guy needs new material. reading and trying to write what we were required to about the froniter---boring and not easy.
Great teacher but hard class. Towner is a really funny guy and tried to make class more bearable. The material covered is dry and hard to write about but Tower is always willing to help out during office hours. Just turn in the homework and go to his office hours and this class is an A.
Good teacher, but the material you read and write about is ridiculous! Visit office hours and you'll score points, helps a lot on one-on-one time, not during class. Instructions very vague. Surfer dude, get him talkin', he loves it. got a C+
Great Class, interesting. A teacher with passion. Sometimes has some good jokes, comes happy to class, and enjoys to teach. Great teacher and good person to teach you something new. Open your mind. A CHALLENGING CLASS, but worth it.
wat a pain.it sucks that everyone has to take this class.boring teacher and boring materials equal boring class.avoid him if you can.his readings are annoying and he seems stoned all the time.he just zones out and its sad that students dont take him seriously.hes grading skills r questionable.
boring class. Never quite makes it clear what he wants.. i still dont know what the heck context is! His grading never makes sense. Hes an odd man, nice, but weird. The biggest problem i had with him was that he liked to discuss other students grades and progress with classmates.
Towner was a weird guy. He was nice but very unclear. To be successful in his class you must go to his office hours. Keep an eye on your grade. I found some missing points that made the difference of a letter grade. Asking questions is the only way to know what he wants. The last 100 points are subjective so participate.
nice teacher, always available to help in office hours. do the readings, participate in class and work on your papers = A

Take class if you want to learn. He really helped me develop my writing. classwork is tedious and sometimes pointless. have to go to class to get it. good, overall
Grades very very hard. The class average for project 3 (we have 4 writing assignments) was an F. He expects all students to be amazing....
grades very hard and is unclear about everything. when you ask him questions he never really answers. he is very weird and tried hard to be funny.
If you have amnesia, this class is the cure. He's boring as hell and about as clear as mud
Towner is boring & his assignments are extremely unclear. Even if you're a good writer, he wont like what you have to say if its not how he wants it. He is hard to please. Plus i think he is ****. A lot of girls i knew who took him hated him but guys liked him. If you're a guy and dont mind being bored then go for it... but i suggest to stay away

This guy is ridiculous. I am a good student and this guy drove us all crazy. He is nice but he is NEVER clear about what he is asking for. Don't need to come to all the classes. Text is not all that boring but still his lack of clarity is annoying.
He is not an easy techer, but if you work hard and understand what he wants, he will give you a good grade. I thought he would be really boring, but he was entertaining at times and he loves when you come to his office for extra help. He can tell who works hard and who slacks off. I liked him overall, he was very helpful.
Very unclear. If you're a good writer you can get by w/o going in for help b/c when he does help he just tends to confuse. Nice guy, but his basic motto for the class is that nobody will get an A. If you can, take another professor.
He is a really nice teacher and if you need help he will help you. The beginning was kind of hard with all the work but it eventually became easier. His projects are a little unclear in the beginning but he gives plenty of time to work on it and it becomes more clear.
I didn't know anything about written arguments before I took this class. The writing assignments were difficult but Prof. Towner would meet with students individually to go over what was expected in the final draft. Good class.
I can say I definately learned the material. the four projects really made it possible. the work was stressful at first, but as soon as you get the hang of it, it'll be easy. I strongly suggest meeting with him for all of your papers at least once. it will really bring your understanding..and grade up! pretty cool guy, his jokes lighten the mood.
doesn't always have clear instructions
probably one of the worst professors i've had so far. he'll spend the first three or four meetings saying the same thing over and over again. classes seem pointless, and he is extremely unclear. he gives off the past stoner vibe. write your four papers and you'll be fine. but if you can, take another professor.
He's a good guy. I hate writing with all my heart but I really enjoyed the class. I met with him for all my papers at least once and attended every class—Any halfwit can pull off a C in this class however, if you're the type that aims a little higher, preapare to work your ass off.
He means well, and can be funny sometimes, but its damn hard to please him. Sometimes hes blunt and kinda dark/bitter/mean. Meet with him about each essay, and good luck getting an A in the class, I tried really hard.
Towner is kinda rude, mean, judgemental... his classes are soooooo boring, you pretty much peer critique every class, gets so annoying. Just go to class-easy participatn pnts- and for the record: it is NOT impossible to get an A-i did and wrote most my papers a couple days b4 thy were due....
Towner's class was not that bad. He does repeat himself a lot, but he tells you exactly what he is looking for in your papers. Has a dry sense of humor and the jokes are corny but if you have a sense of humor you will enjoy. Super available to review papers and generous with feedback. Most of class is peer review. Definately an easy grade!
Make sure you listen to him carefully! He cusses a lot. His jokes are really corny. He laughs at himself. Make sure you read the assigned text because although it may seem like you might not use them later on, you do. So read. Do all the assignments. Overall, he's not a bad teacher. Just corny.
Professor Towner is a pretty wierd guy, he makes awkward jokes that you wouldnt expect a teacher to make but you cant help but laugh at his attempt to try to be funny. You get 2 weeks off from class to do your paper and theyre pretty easy you just have to follow the prompt very closely. 3/4 of my papers i wrote the night before and got b's on them
Maybe I'm crazy, but I kind of enjoyed Towner's class. Basically, you go to class for two weeks and then you have two weeks to work on your paper. He also meets with each student individually, which is extremely helpful. To get an A you have to be a very good writer. Towner's class is not easy, but you learn the content well.
A self-proclaimed liberal christian, he is very intelligent and has a unique sense of humor. My writing technique improved drastically. make sure to ask questions if you don't understand, always come to class, he doesn't like slackers, read material carefully, go to office hours they really help, and don't expect an A he's a tough grader
Pick a different teacher...and if your stuck with him then good luck! His class was the worst part of my day. He is sooooo boring and is mono toned. No matter how great your writing is he will always find a way to make it wrong and make you feel stupid. I seriously worked hard on my papers and got a C in the class. Dont take Townnnerrrrr :-)!
He was very helpful
Professor Towner is a very good teacher. You just have to work really hard in his class to get an A, but it is defintely possible. I would defintely recommend his class because he makes his students think outside of the box and he defintely made me a better writer!
I like Towner, he's a cool cat and if you do the work and put a reasonable effort in you will pass. He knows that most of us aren't the next Hemmingway so he's not too tough but at the same time he wants you to be a better writer and thinker than when you you walked in the class and because of that he earned my respect.
He is the worst instructor I have ever had, and I've had some pretty bad ones. Tons of papers to write, only to have them ridiculed like you were in grade school again. He does have knowledge on the subject matter, but belittles you to where you are discouraged to even try. Don't take Towner. It's academic suicide.
Towner was an okay teacher, hes pretty striaght foward with what he wants in the essays, but he is so boring in class. He tries to be funny but fails miserably and it just makes the class seem really awkward and uncomfortable. he does assign homework every now and then and attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade.
worst class i had this semester. nothing he says about his essays are clear. the only thing that i could suggest is that you kiss up to him. go to his office hours and pray that he likes you. he grades really hard and his grading scale is all over the place. he grades classwork and it doesnt matter what you write he wont give you an A. STAY AWAY!!!
He's nice but he makes awkward jokes in class.requires all the books on his list even though you hardly use them.He wants you to bring them to class sometimes.4 papers.going to office hours is recommended but he won't read the complete paper.he'll give corrections&when you go back again he'll have more.critical reading questions almost each week
Going to my RWS100 class is about as enjoyable as drilling screws through my feet. He is the worst professor and is very unclear about his essays. I think he is kinda on a power trip since he realizes that his class is completely useless and a filler class.
Takes roll randomly. Mandatory tutoring. Short writing assignments & 4 essays (gets harder). Lectures based on hw relevant to essays. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He'll correct your essays & tell you EXACTLY what's wrong & gives excellent critiques. Didn't always go to class, but managed to get a Bs on hw & essays. He plays favorites so participate!
As far as teaching, he definitely made me a better writer.sometimes makes it awkward with his jokes. if you do the homework and participate in class you will be fine. Takes roll a lot of the days. Tells you basically everything you need in your essay and how to do it. Go to office hours, he will tell you everything that you need to do to your paper
You all are too harsh. Towner is a brilliant instructor with a nice sense of humor. He's very helpful. I didn't think I was capable of writing a 20-page paper (min. required length=5 pages) that he gave me a 96% on. He also made our lives easier by giving us exact formulas, structures, and templates to write in several genres. I wish him the best:)
anal retentive.. goes over and over and over the same things, making class SO boring. randomly takes attendance and does lot of peer reviews but you rely on other people to turn them in...so if they don't, he doesnt care. VERY hard grader. but sometimes makes a few jokes (awkward)
Towner is pretty boring, but can be pretty funny too. Hes always able to help in office hours and his grading is usually pretty easy on written homeworks. Do the homework and keep up on readings and you'll do fine.
He is a really great teacher. I hated writing but actually enjoyed it after I took this class. I took it during summer and it was 5 assignments one per week but they were really simple. I got an A no problem. He's not boring he just has random sarcastic comments. Great class!
class is not very hard, but this guy is an idiot and slob. absolutely dreaded going to class and sitting through a hour of listening to him ramble on about the terrible state of America. he thinks he's funny. hes not. if you're willing to sit through his stupid lectures, the class isnt hard, lots of homework but its not time consuming
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! Towner thinks he's funny with his sarcasm and tries to be "cool." His monotone voice doesn't make the class any easier. Decent grader on essays, homework is graded hard.
Pretty easy class. Office hours are really helpful since he goes over your whole essay with you. Sometimes his jokes don't fall and makes things awkward but if you can stand it, you'll get an easy A. Plus, his essay templates really help with essays for other classes.
Classes were boring and often repetitive... he would even admit that he was repeating material (for up to 3 class periods). I thought he was funny and fairly approachable, but even if you fix what he tells you to change in your papers it may not make a difference in your grade. I would definitely look for a different professor.
He is a tough teacher. Very hard to get an A. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!! They are the only reason I got a B. Boring class to sit in, but he is sometimes funny.
Don't buy keys for writers you only need the other book. He is very boring, he tries to be humorous sometimes his jokes are sick, twisted, and hilarious. I felt the writing assignments were easy and I ended up with a B+
decently easy class, just do all your assignments, and you will most likely get a B. DONT BUY keys for writers. class is very boring, but if you read, the class discussions can get interesting.
took it fall 2010 Got an A- so close to an A! Takes attendance when you turn in your assignment So do turn in your assignments and you get credit for both! i think that's why i didn't get an A. grades assignments fairly easily. goes off on tangent at times Fell asleep plenty! On essay grades okay Go to office hrs and he will gladly help.
Towner is a very typical 1970's professor. He is very down to earth and understanding as well. There are no exams in the class, just 4 papers and a final reflection. If you are a social science or liberal arts major the writing will be cake. He basically teaches what you already learned how to do in your classes. For science/math majors it is hard.
Towner is a really helpful professor and the papers he assigns aren't too hard. Go to class and take notes, he practically tells you everything you should be including in your essays, and go to office hours, they're really helpful!
Professor Towner is a really good teacher! He gives a lot of help to students during office hours. He will read your entire paper and tell you what to do on it. He even let me rewrite a paper without me even asking to do so! He is so awesome and cracks jokes all the time! If you want a good grade in rhetoric, try and get him as your teacher!
Amazing
Really good professor. 4 papers. Really strict on the format of each paper. Format exactly the way he asks and you'll do fine. He holds conferences so there's no reason why you shouldn't get at least a B in the class. He cracks joke that are usually kinda lame but funny. Take him, he's easy and has a sense of humor.
Towner is a really great professor! He cracks jokes all the time and is always available to read someone's paper if you want them too. The homework isn't hard at all, and if you try on the paper, he will give you a good grade. Go to his office hours, and it will be really easy for you to do well in his class. I recommend him!
Professor Towner is awesome. I had him for RWS 100 and 200 and before his class I hated writing, and after having his class, I'm probably going to minor in rhetoric. He always has the class laughing because his jokes are hilarious. He is really good at explaining the prompts for papers, and he always has office hours! Go to them they are helpful!
At first, I hated him and his jokes but take him, he'll actually teach you how to write.
4 papers, 2 of them are group papers. Helps during class and office hours. Cracks jokes once in a while. Hard to get an A because he is a strict grader, but easy to get a B.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He gives 4 projects two are group. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A. I attended every class and always went to office hours and he screwed me over with grades. He doesnt care and lecture is the worst. I regret not sleeping in all those times I attended lecture. He is not helpful and does not teach you anything you dont already know.
I really did not like this professor. As a fairly adept writer I was NOT excited to have to take this class after getting an 8 on the WPA (such a scam). Anyways, Towner was VERY aloof, not well-planned and if anything my writing is worse because of him. HARSH grader, and very defensive when you ask him about your grade. DO NOT TAKE.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COST. He wants things worde a certain way and done a certain way, but sometimes even if you do what he asks he'll still give you a bad grade. Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
He was really boring, kind of obnoxious, and oftentimes went off on random topics. There were a large amounts are short write homework assignments that were really confusing and he gave no feedback, so you only did them to get the grade. He was only on time to class twice, and blamed the trolley. Forgettable class, do yourself a favor and skip him.
He is a really understanding teacher. He holds office hours instead of actual class days the week before essays are due. Very helpful and approachable. He has 10 easy writes that are due based on readings so you will need the book but they are easy points. I would really recommend this teacher.
Towner was a great professor! His class is very simple- follow his directions and you pass! The class consists of four papers. There is no final. You go to class, he lectures for about 20 minutes and class is over. I would highly recommend him for RWS.
The class itself should be easy, he only gives you 3 projects the entire semester. He will tell you to change something in your paper and when you do, he will question why you now have that. He is rude, disrespectful and repeats the same thing 5 lectures in a row. His lectures are seriously a joke. You really have to work for you grade.
Professor is not very clear when he is giving assignments. Many times is very obnoxious and sarcastic. When people asks questions, he questions them. I Personally do NOT recommend this professor.
Although I am only a first semester freshman, Towner is probably my favorite professor ever. Or any education advocate in general. His readings are not hard, he gives many opportunities to improve your grade and he's funny and down to earth. He reminds me of Sheldon from the big bang theory but nicer.
Towner is such a nice interesting guy! Though on the other hand his class was my hardest class this semester. Writing essays is difficult for me and english isn't my first language so this class was incredibly hard because he's a perfectionist and has high standards. His lecture's aren't helpful at ALL, he goes off topic but they're interesting!
Towner is the man. Yeah his lectures can be kind of pointless to go to but he has a really sarcastic and dry sense of humor which is entertaining. Go to office hours because he's really helpful there. The class consists of 4 essays and no final. He was my favorite professor out of my entire semester.
He gives good feedback on all assignments. He has office hours and days set up for essay feedback. He discusses all papers and criteria very clearly and multiple times before your final draft is due. He goes give out quite a bit of assignments, but they aren't hard. His essays are a challenge, but doable if you don't procrastinate too badly.
This was probably the worst class I've ever taken. The professor doesn't seem to know his own subject: misusing "except" vs "accept," not understanding or fully explaining Oxford commas, etc. His lectures are often repeated. We spent at least 6-8 class periods discussing paraphrasing and another 6-8 on concise writing. Luckily, he's an easy grader.
Took Towner Fall15 and he is a professor that will actually turn you into a better writer. Go to his office hours for help and he will go more in depth with you on better writing techniques. Definitely would take again
Professor Towner is great; however, you have to work for your grade and go to class. Each class session is 5 points and if you don't attend, you'll fall behind. Go to his office hours! You're guaranteed to do better in his class and understand what he wants from you if you go! Don't BS your essays either - he's a strict grader.
I dread going to this class everyday. He is extremely boring and did not help me with my writing at all. I was really looking forward to improving my writing skills but he doesn't even give you corrections on your essay so you know how to do better next time. I would not recommend this professor.
There are 4 papers that he grades really hard on and doesnt give A's in the class. His classes are really boring but he is accessible to after class hours to get help on the papers! Rarely homework and cancels class all the time!! No midterm or final
He is so rude to his students. He is extremely demanding. His lectures are never related to the assignments. He can't make up his mind about what he wants from his students work. One day he'll say something and completely change his mind for the next class about his guidelines for assignments.
Boring and somewhat funny at the same time (idk how). Rarely attended class. Never went to his office hours and didn't do 5 HW assignments. I regret both so DO BOTH. Expect to read articles. Constantly ask questions on essays, he's willing to help. Actually learned how to write when i went to class. You just gotta try and you'll be fine.
I absolutely loved him!! 4 essays total, all with rough drafts and peer marks due before a final one! lectures can be boring but he will tell you exactly what he wants in the essay. some shortwrites that are graded easily! if you do the work of the promt (bare minimum) youll for sure get a great grade on the essays! go to office hours!!!!
Towner is a very arrogant man, and when he lectures I'm not sure he wants us to answer correctly. He was very exasperated with our class, but also we deserved it. Essay topics and the article readings were interesting . USE THE "THEY SAY I SAY" TEMPLATES !! I hated going to class, but also didn't really need to show up to pass.
Mr. Towner is a supert sweet guy. The lectures can feel a little long and he sometimes gets repetitive, but overall he's a really good teacher. If you really try you can get an A, but if you skim along you can easily get a B. I'd definitely retake this class.
Literally go to the scheduled important classes and follow his templates. I usually get Bs in English classes but I got an A pretty easily in his. 4 tests and he does short writes, but they can be easily done before class(takes like 30min). He may seem boring, but he knows what he's talking about and he'll make you a better writer. Take him.
Not a bad guy, but he's certainly not my favorite. Grade consists of 4 large papers with unclear prompts and a few short writes. We gives you chances to get one-on-one advice about papers but his feedback is hardly useful. Attendance isn't really mandatory unless there's an in class assignment for points, but I found his classes boring/repetitive
He is pretty funny, and he shows you how to write each paper. There are 4 papers and a bunch of short writes, but he does in class activities to help you write the papers and short writes.
Towner was super funny, but his lectures could sometimes be boring and repetitive. The class is really graded on 4 papers, but if you're good at writing and use the templates from They Say, I Say, you'll do fine. Go to his office hours for feedback on your rough drafts because he tells you exactly what he wants to see in your specific paper.
He is not understanding that students have other classes and don't have the time to polish a paper to perfection. His definition of an "A" paper is one that goes above and beyond his expectations, however this is difficult to accomplish when he does not teach you how to write at all. He references to templates in 2 books he makes you buy, thats it.
This is the worst class I have ever taken, and probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He has no teaching ability and is oddly condescending. Most of his lectures are awkward and he goes off topic to discuss bizarre irrelevant topics. His grading is inconsistent and just simply not good. Do not take his class, I did not learn anything at all.
Honestly, the worse class I've ever decided to take. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I never take the time to write reviews but literally he is so inconsistent, unfair, and DOESN'T TEACH YOU ANYTHING.
I hope I never have to take this professor again. His grading fluctuates throughout the semester and very inconsistent. You have group conferences in which he looks at yours and five other students essays and he talks to you like youre stupid. Its insulting. He expects masterpieces out of the three essays assigned when its just not possible.
I learned nothing from this class and this professor. The classes are always very unorganized and he always seems like he never knows what hes talking about. He makes you buy two books. This class made me come to hate writing because of how tedious he makes each assignment. Hes ambiguous so youll never 100% know how to approach and write essays.
Attendance isn't mandatory but you wont understand the prompts if you don't attend class. He is a really nice and understanding professor and my only real issue with him is that his lectures tend to get increasingly boring. There are 3 essays and a bunch of discussion boards that make up most of your grade.
If you're currently looking for professors for RWS100/200, and you came across Towner. I am here to tell you: SAVE YOURSELF. Don't take his course. All the reviews during the time I took his course were good, but they were misleading. He will teach you NOTHING. He is condescending, rude, unorganized, and unhelpful.
Towner is a very picky grader. During conferences he did give feedback but it was more of him humiliating students and being disrespectful. He did help improve my writing, but would sometimes come to class with such a poor attitude. People have good and bad days but his bad days would take over his whole mood and made class so uncomfortable.
Towner is a funny guy but theres only three papers in the semester and some discussion boards that make up your grade. The prompts are elaborate and confusing and he's very ambiguous of what he wants. Its very very difficult to get an A/B on a paper, even if you believe youre a strong writer. If you have the option, find a different professor.
confusing grade: i met with him to get feedback on all my rough drafts, he'd tell me they were good and give minimal corrections, i'd take the corrections and he'd still give me B's on my essays. his prompts aren't very clear even though i'd read the book, and he didn't discuss them much in class. not the easiest 100 class, definitely not an easy A
3 papers. After each rough draft he takes the next two weeks to read each paper in class, but the feedback is basic at best. If you take his advice from when he read the rough draft, you get a B at best. Final revision feedback shows everything he likes about the paper, without telling you where to really improve. He is unclear as to what he wants.
You have to do 4 essays and some in-class tasks. He can be ambiguous about what he is looking for in the paper but he will do example paragraphs which really helped me understand what wanted. He's super quirky and funny and I actually really enjoyed going to his class. If you talk to him a bit he is really nice when he knows students personally.
Towner is an excellent professor who cares about his students. You need to work for the grade, though. He gives great feedback, and it helps to go to his office hours and email him if you need help. He is an outstanding professor who will care about you! A great pick for RWS200! The effort is worth it. I learned a lot.
I really didn't like the class, I felt that no matter the amount of work I put in, I couldn't get an A. It helps to attend office hours but sometimes he'd get upset at questions. His lectures were not helpful (and boring); he'd tell us what was expected of our summaries on the due date. Papers required effort, I'd recommend starting early.
Attend lectures and ask as many questions as you can. Go to his office hours to work on your papers. I hate writing but he made it enjoyable. You must be willing to work for your grade. If you're not willing to do that, don't take him. He can come off intimidating but he wants the best for his students. Thoroughly read and follow the essay rubrics.
