His class is too hard. He likes to hear himself talk unfortunately, he has a monotone voice. The class is incredibly boring and read straight off the powerpoints. Don't take this class if you can avoid it.

This guy is extremely boring and his tests just seem to have the most obscure questions. Granted there are some easier ones on there, the majority of them are very difficult.

This man is AMAZINGLY dry in his description of the subject. 95% of the class is sleeping, and of those 5% that are trying hard, only 1% will end up even getting a remotely respectable grade. This class is WAY too hard.

This man is the cure to insomnia. It's been nearly three years since I took him and my friends and I still crack at how he would put us to sleep in less than 5 minutes. I do recall falling asleep 75% of the time in his class. Ugh, what a bore! What a waste of my time.

Overall, his class is pretty boring. He doesnt exactly teach, but its all in his powerpoint slides online. For the tests study the PP slides intensely because the little things can be on test too.

The class is my naptime. Study the things he puts on blackboard and wakeup for the clicker questions and you should be ok, unless you can't learn by reading. If thats the case, you're screwed.

You need to read the book to get a good grade in his class. He does not go over everything. He also is not so helpful. He does give 8-10 points extra credit on every test though.

This guy is a real nice guy, and is very easy to access. Emails are replied to quickly, and his tests come straight off of the powerpoints. Study the power points and read the book and you will do fine. A bit on the boring side, and has some stupid clocker questions

I have been to four lectures this entire semester, including the first day and the tree exams ... everything is straight from the power point slides which he posts on blackboard. Study them for a bit and youre guaranteed a B....HORRIBLE teacher tho, very monotone voice and loves to hear himself TALK

Very smart man, but too nice. He lets his students walk over him. His tests comes mainly from the notes but there are some random, hard questions. He is very helpful and has good notes but most people don't take advantage of everything. Go to class, study the notes, and read the book for clarification.

Im currently in his class, he is not dry or monotone. He's funny sometimes. His tests are hard but he drops one of the 4.Its easy to get at least a b as long as you know the material. He also gives a lot of extra points on the tests. Posts lecture slides but you have to go to class to actually recieve the notes on what you need to know for the test

Very understanding, attendence enforced with clicker, you get points for clicker, uses big words in his speech, tries hard to keep you interested. If you are a visual learner, you will love this class. If not, ur screwed. Tests were very hard, study guides not helpful, suggest finding outside class help, teaching methods do not suit subject.

It's hard to sit & listen to him because he doesn't teach in an interesting way. Uses clickers & the questions can be hard. "Study guides" are useless- he tells you to learn absolutely everything. Tests are hard- things show up that he never talked about & weren't in slides. Posts slides on Bb but they don't help much. He makes the class hard.

Eh, he's pretty good. Always available to help during office hours, clear enough. A little too enthusiastic about bugs. Knows a song about lancelets; make sure he sings it when you get to them. Crazy how that one thing is such a relief against the studying.

Not the most invigorating class, but somewhat interesting. Tests are the ONLY grades, so you must be sure to do all the practice problems and study because they are not super easy. A's are not impossible though.

Invert. Zoology- You have to study in order to get good grades on the exams. Overall, the class is not difficult at all. He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching and this shows. You have to actually apply yourself in this class in order to come out with a good grade (surprise!).

Invert zoology was a good class, if the people say it was hard its because they didn't study at all. There is a good amount of terms but its an overall smooth flowing class. He gets into the class and just make sure you pay attention to him. Overall just don't get behind, because this is not a class that you can study for a test the night before.

Dr T. is an awesome guy. This class has alot of material but if you keep up with the information, really isnt that hard, just a lot of terms. The test are scary at first usually 50 scantron which consist of mc, tf, and matching. then about 60 fill in the blank and 3 essays for a total of 200pts. So study every day and you will be fine.

This class was challenging, but I learned a lot. It's important to attend the lectures b/c even though the powerpoints are online, there are a lot of question and most of them can only be answered by going to class. Study the notes, used txtbk only for reinforcement of the class notes.

He is an OK teacher, he is very mono-tone, so when ever he is talking a lot of people tend to fall asleep. His test are pretty tough, you really need to know all the stuff, my advice, MEMORIZE the lecture slides. And do clicker questions, they help your grade.

Attendance not necessary, class is just slides. Very nice man, go see him in office hours and he can explain anything 100X better one on one. he has a little fun with the class, loves to show youtube videos. material really isn't too difficult, but you have to memorize.

He's like a environmentalist form the way he dresses & he always carries around a stick. Class is ok, everything is on slides (also on BBoard); the material is hard 2 understand in class, have to go back by READING THE BOOK, or you'll be lost. Test can be challenging, but use the book and the CD if u have it, me got me an A on the last test!!!

OK, the class is not hard. Just time consuming. MEMORIZE everything on the slides, and I guarantee you 100+ on his exams. He gives extra credit through on the exams as well as with the clickers. Only use the book for reinforcement because his notes can be a little unorganized. But. Great class, Great professor. Take him.

Awesome professor, This class is very challenging and is meant for serious Bio Majors. You need to really be able to apply what you are learning to his exam questions and not just memorize slides! Thats not what its about. Its all about comprehension. Dont take it unless your prepared to invest in the class. :)I think DrT is great, be prepared.

Exams are tough, you MUST put in time when studying for them. Almost every question on the exams are an application of the topics presented in class, therefore you must understand, not memorize. Go to class because of clicker questions. The clicker questions and bonus questions will make or break your grade, only reason I got an A.

This class annoys me because of how hard his tests are. You can understand material, but you must be able to go a step beyond in order to get an A. Bonus questions help, but I don't find him to be a good enough teacher to test at the level he does. Avoid this class if possible

I think he's a great professor overall. His speeches are clear and the key facts are well elaborated. His test are just hard which is why I think people here are dissatisfied. I have an A so far right now but I must advise you to study study study!

Boring class, he just reads off of the powerpoints. I only went to class for the first few weeks then stopped. Watch out for the first test, it will probably be hard, but read the book and do his study guide and you can get an A

He is a great professor! You can tell that he loves what he teaches, which for me, makes others interested. I can't stand a teacher who isnt passionate. But he is. He majored in Zoology (back when it was a major) and can give some advice for those interested in that field.

there are only THREE exam grades. clickers are given every class and are extremely easy. clickers don't count much towards your grade. one exam grade is omitted. you MUST STUDY for tests, don't take the class if you are not going to take it seriously..you will FAIL. hes EXTREMELY monotone and will put you to sleep unless ur genuinely interested

Tough call; could go either way. Lecture info is scattered; he makes it seem too easy b/c his tests are on totally different level. You MUST do more than simply memorize. Tests are VERY analytical and challenging. You MUST study for his tests and you CAN get an A!

You can tell Turbeville really tries to make class interesting, but he just can't do it with that whiny monotone. His lectures are scattered, and you can't really tell what to expect on the tests from the lectures. Luckily, he puts the powerpoints on blackboard, cuz you will zone out and/or fall asleep in this class!

Dr. T is pretty boring. Going to class is pretty useless except that he does CPS. Class time would be better spent at home reading the book material, which is more interesting than his lectures. The tests are pretty easy. All you have to do is memorize the slides and you'll get an A.

His tests are pretty easy and he is a very nice guy. He is helpful one on one but as a teacher he isn't exactly the best and very boring. You don't really learn much from his class. Reading the textbook is key to doing well in his class. Just look at his lecture material and read the corresponding pages in the textbook.

His exams are straight forward(no fancy trick questions) and easy. His exams are based soley off what he lectures, the only problem is he doesnt go into detail. He is very good at posting what pages in the book you need to know. Reading the text is very important, you read those pages and thats literally what his exams will be on.

Great Professor! He's really not hard, his exams are STRAIGHT from the slides. I didnt crack my book all semester and still got an A, I'm not even good at bio. Just memorize the slides, go to class and theres your A. You need to go to class to get the answers that are on the slides, cause they WILL be on the exam. Plus, he's super nice and helpful!

He is very thorough since this class' contents are also his personal field of study. He has a very set "pattern" to his notes, and if you follow it there's no way to screw up. His tests are detailed, but like I said, follow his notes and you're fine because he doesn't use any evil tricks or anything and he works in alot of extra credit!

Great professor. Lectures are informative and he attempts to keep it interesting by showing short clips of examples. He is passionate about the subject and exams are fair: can make up to 112 on exams--> 6 extra credit questions. TAKE HIM

The key to succeeding in the class was reading the textbook closely and reviewing his powerpoints. Though he was monotone during his lectures, the class was not too difficult to make in A in.

Turbeville's lectures are important. He knows what he is talking about and it's better to study with his power points than the book. He allows students to record his lectures which I highly suggest. He also makes himself available for students to ask questions. Great professor, but tricky tests!

MUST TAKE for 152! He knows what he is talking abouut and he's enthusiastic about it. He is crystal clear about what he wants you to know and ready to help, but bio152 itself has a lot of memorizations. Stick to his powerpoints, don't bother to read txtbooks. HIs ppt is better than the textbook. Stay organize and memorize everything on ppt.LOVE him

Worst Bio 152 professor at VCU. Very unorganized and unenthusiastic. I don't understand all the other comments praising him. His powerpoints are not clear, so you can forget about studying them before a test. I am a bio major and got a "B" in the class but I do not recommend this class to anyone.

Mostly easy, but REALLY boring. I wanted to sleep through most of his lectures. His presentations started off organized, but somehow, he usually got lost. Often treated students as if they're still in grade school. Good intentioned, though. Some test questions were never mentioned in lectures/book, but mult.choice made it easier, gave bonus pts.

Very clear prof! You need to study the book and look over the slides before each test. If you do so, you should have no problem getting an A on his exams (he gives a few bonus q's too). The only other grades are clickers(easy) and pre-exam quizzes (online). And he drops the lowest of his three exams, so now I only need to worry about the final!

He's the most boring professor I've had by far. But the other BIOL 152 professor Jonathan Moore is fun/energetic but his tests are SUPER hard. Turbeville may put you to sleep every class but his tests are pretty easy. So I would still take him again if I had to.

He is an intelligent professor, but he seemed to get more and more disorganized as the course progressed (especially for the last two animal diversity units). Nevertheless, his exams are straightforward. Study the book and slides before each, and you should do very well. The final is long and covers a lot of information, but not difficult.

Do the suggested readings & problems that he posts on Blackboard... don't just depend on the lecture slides (use them as a guide.) I did the reading and got a 97 in the class, easily. Also, remember the clicker questions because he puts some of them on the tests. Tests can be kind of tricky, but not hard and he puts extra credit questions on them.

Boring professor, but his exams are fair. I didn't really get much from the lecture...instead I studied the textbook extensively and looked over the slides before each exam (got a high A on all of them, including the final). There's a lot of material, but if you put in the time and effort you'll be golden!

Dr. Turbeville, while very knowledgeable of the subject, is not the greatest lecturer. It IS possible to earn an A in this class, I did. However you have to study hard. The exams are not easy. MY WORD OF ADVICE: DO MASTERING BIOLOGY. It isn't required of the course but it helped me SO much in preparing for exams.

First of all this course covers A LOT of material in a short amount of time, especially the second half of the semester. His lectures are extremely boring and his slides are disorganized. However, his exams are fairly easy. He does not curve, but puts extra credit questions. I got a high A in the course but I studied A LOT and read the textbook.

A classic example of "you reap what you sow." If you don't crack the book all the semester, skip class,and study the night before with just his posted slides, you will do poorly. In fact, I agree completely that his slides and lectures are disorganized. Read the book and study in advance-- his tests will then seem easy. Got a high A!

He is very intelligent and is extremely passionate about Biology. However, I find his lectures kind of boring and confusing at times. His PowerPoints aren't always clear on the material. But it's NOT hard to understand if you put forth effort. I suggest GOING TO CLASS & reading the book. An A is do-able but not a walk in the park like High School.

Terrible professor. His notes are the most disorganized, unclear notes that I have ever seen. He is of no use.When you ask him questions he just repeat what he said earlier. He goes off track a lot. He is very smart, however, he doesn't know how to relate the information to his students. His tests are incredibly difficult. Our test average was a 55

This class can either be really fun or disastrous depending on how you approach it. First couple tests, I missed a few classes and tried to follow his slides using the textbook. I got As on both, but I learned that everything is straight off the slides and from his lectures. RECORD EVERYTHING HE SAYS (really). That, or take great notes.

I had him a few semesters back, and I found he was a very fair professor. He might be disorganized but that's where the book comes in. Use his slides as a guide for studying while reading the book, and you will surely ace his exams. This is not high school, so don't expect everything on a platter.

Dr.Turbeville is extremely FAIR. You can get an A without the textbook though if you put the money and time into it, it is a sure thing. Attendance is a must if you are aiming for A without the textbook. Otherwise have fun studying!

This was a pretty straight forward course. Turbeville's PowerPoints are a good study resource and give you an idea of what material you should absolutely know. Clicker questions in lecture are a great way to get some points. It's definitely worth it to go to class.

You have to put more time after class if you want to get an A. His exams are coming from the study guide. Make sure you read over the study guide on blackboard. His powerpoint is not organized. I heard that all VCU biology professors are hard the same. He is easy to compare to the others.

o Powerpoint lectures are very vague and Turbeville does not go into much detail. Exams are very long & detail-orientated. Exams require a lot of memorization & need to remember every little detail covered during lecture.

WORST BIO PROFESSOR EVER. His lecture slides have blanks all over the place, they are the most unorganized and useless slides I've ever seen. I went to see him during office hours and the only advice he gave was "Study harder". He's extremely smart and passionate about biology, and he expects that all his students are just as smart and passionate

Professor T is really good, he actually teaches and explains the material. His powerpoint slides are much better than other biology teachers but you need to be pay attention to what he says. You need to study a lot, its a hard class and too many things to memorize. I got a B but if I have studied harder it would have been an A.

I got an A in the class after getting two solid Bs on the tests (skipped the third one) ...ending up getting a 90 in the class by getting an A on the final. Just study hard and just take notes on every detail he mentions. Great prof! attend class for clickers and do your best on the online quizzes-every point counts

Turbeville is a very fair professor, though he often rambles on in lecture about the most boring topics. His exams are long and require you to know your stuff cold, but that should be expected. If you pay attention to what he says in class and study that, you should be golden!

But if you put in the time and effort to organize and carefully memorize his lectures, the exams are really straightforward. Do not waste time going through the book unless you are totally lost...all you need are his lectures! Got an A!

Good professor with good intentions, just very hard tests in my opinion. I wouldn't say they are "unfair" per say but this class is A LOT of memorization and time that needs to be put into studying. Just be prepared for that! He will help if need be!

I think that he is a good teacher. I got a C on my first test, but got A's on the last two. Also he is one of the best bio teachers that i have had simply because he post study guides for his students, and they really do help a lot when it comes to studying for his test. His test, by the was are not that difficult just study and ask questions!

What an unhelpful, annoying professor. Be prepared if you ask a question of what you got wrong on a test, his answer will be "it's implied". Too lazy to make new tests, so he uses the same ones every semester which means he doesn't give tests back (unhelpful for final) and won't let you write down what you got wrong.

I took his class over the summer and really enjoyed it. I think he's a great lecturer and it's clear that he's very intelligent and passionate about invertebrate zoology. Go to class and take notes and look at the powerpoint slides he puts up. Got a solid A.

Dr. T is a very smart professor, however, he has a constant tendency to get off topic rapidly. If you go to class and take good notes, you will do decently in the class, however, doing homework, and studying through the study guides given are really the key to success.

Dr. T is one of the most well knowledgable and passionate professors VCU has to offer. His lectures are very interesting, lengthy and chockfull of information that is your primary source to Acing his exams which are NOT EASY. What do you expect? Its a 300 level course so expect to work hard and you will earn what you put into this class. Good luck!

If you're not a fan of bio, you're not gonna like this class. His lectures are pretty dry and boring. He makes you purchase a clicker app (even though we already bought clickers?) so that's a waste of $20. Don't take him unless biology actually interests you or else this class will make you hate it even more.

I took his class over the summer (3 Hours a dayM-F), and it wasn't too bad. He lectures the whole time so time flies as you write notes. His test are tough, there's 50 MC and around 40 Free response. I would recommend recording his lectures then listening to it after class. I worked hard and got an A :)!

Not very helpful but just like any other class you will have to put in the work. I got B's on the first two tests and A's on the next two. You just have to get used to his tests. His clicker questions are stupid because he doesn't actually use a clicker but thats irrelevant. He doesn't tell you your participation grade until the final. Good luck!

This is for his invertebrate zoology class. Heres the basics for getting an A, DO NOT rely on the powerpoints. Forget that they are even there. They are disorganized and pointless. What you need to do is GO TO EVERY CLASS and WRITE DOWN everything he says. EVERYTHING. He only tests on what he says. Beyond that its just rote memorization of notes.

This class is pretty good and Dr. T really loves what he does. He always is willing to help his students and answer questions! If this is one of your first 300 class your study schedule will need an adjustment. Test 1 will be hard but once you know the format it is a piece of cake. Class is boring so I would recommending taking it over the summer.

Eckert and Turbeville co-teach Evolution in the fall, and they are both really good professors. Homework and quizzes are 50% of your grade, so make sure to do well on those. The lectures were helpful in understanding the material, but it was very straightforward. Turbeville is really passionate about his work so I loved hearing him lecture.

Go to review sessions. Print out your notes, bring them to class and write everything he says. It makes all the difference. Go to office hours about your tests. After test one you will know what to expect. The final is a little bit cumulative but mostly on new material. I enjoyed this class very much. The class will teach you how to study correctly

He makes you work for your grade in Invertebrate Zoology, but what he is teaching and his videos - it makes it sort of fun. Always attend his classes, record the lectures, and take notes. His powerpoints are very minimal info so go to class! His tests are really difficult and you really have to know your stuff for multiple choice/short answer.

He's alright, explains concepts really well. His tests are kind of hard, but online assignments are easy. He spends like 10 minutes per slides, which is very boring... Not too hard, you can read over the textbook if you don't understand what he's saying.

His lectures can be kind of slow and while it's not mandatory to attend class it could help you understand each topic/concept because he goes over each thing slowly. You don't have to read the book, but it could help if you don't understand certain things. Always take the quizzes every week, the answers can be found in the book or online

Class is interesting, you learn so much material. His exams are tough, it has a mix of questions, T/F, multiple choice, fill in blank, essay, etc. He also gives online quizzes that are easy. The best way to get an A in this course: write down EVERYTHING he says during class. Memorize everything he says!!!!

Dont take this class if you don't care about animals, and dont want to learn about them. Dr T is my favorite professor at vcu, his teaching style is perfect and it's great to learn from him! Tests are tough if you don't pay attention/study hard. I recorded each of his lectures and talked to him after class a lot. Very interesting class

Go to class, listen/take notes during lectures, review vocabulary words (list provided), and DO ALL OF THE >>ONLINE<< EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS/HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS/QUIZZES. The A is handed to you. Extra credit provides a cushion even if you bomb a test and Quizlett has everything. Dr. T is a great guy who clearly loves his subject.

If you want a good grade, attending class will be beneficial. He tests based of what he says in lecture. His ppts are mostly pictures so without going its hard to understand. Willing to help! Drops lowest test out of 3 then there is a semi-cumulative final.

Dr. T is very sweet. He made an effort to learn the names of the people who spoke up in class which I thought was really cool. His lectures are kind of dry, but he is knowledgeable about evolution. If you want something to challenge your focus with a great professor than I'd take this class.

Everything for the Bb quizzes and homework is on quizlet. He posts a list of terms for the exam and as long as you review them, you'll do great. Easiest class I've ever taken at VCU. I wish I'd been compelled to attend class because evolution is so interesting, but I'm grateful for the A.

This class is not difficult. It isn't a show-up-and-pass class, but it's about as close you can get in biology. There is extra credit around every corner. Turbeville himself isn't exactly standout, and is a little lazy with questions, but the class material is interesting. This was a course I enjoyed and didn't have a hard time with.

he's a nice professor but his lectures are so boring and weren't that helpful for the tests. The class average for tests would be a D. No one would score 100%. The homework is just quizzes, they're quick and the slides are somewhat helpful for them. I wish there was a detailed textbook and more words on slides. Take the class, its manageable!

Dr. T seems like a nice guy, the lectures were just incredibly boring and you have to rely on those because the notes given did not have all the information you need, even then, I didn't feel like I was learning or truly understanding the material. The tests had me needing to look at notes a lot, so I'd rush through them or run out of time.

Dr. Turbeville is a very average professor. Lectures are pretty boring because he mostly reads from the slides. If you can dedicate about 2-4 hours per week and do the review sheets given before the exam, you should have no problem getting an A. He gives bonus points on tests and final grade is not weighted, its based on total points.

His tests are hard But he gives a lot of extra credit and his quiz and homework are all online in quizlet A little tip for his tests, ONLY TAKE HIS CLASS ONLINE because u can find his tests online, if u take it in person u will fail 60% homework easy 40% tests (very hard) I failed 2 test but still got A because of extra credit

This teacher honestly sucks. Hes boring and when it comes to the exams its 60 questions! The amount of questions isnt necessarily the issue its the way they are worded and they come from what he says in class ONCE. Good luck cause you will zone out

Dont depend on the test study sheet he sends and the PowerPoint arent helpful. He offers people to use a cheat sheet but that is honestly not useful. There is extra credit but its not worth much and there are quizzes which honestly dont do much if your not doing well on his tests

Dr. Turbeville is a really good professor in my opinion. His tests are very difficult so make sure you're actively reviewing his material. He's open for any questions you may have and offers plenty of opportunities to earn extra credit. He let's you use a cheat sheet for each test so make sure you use it wisely! Type it up don't handwrite it.

The professor is great, but this class is not it. Fill in the blanks for the exams; they're poorly worded, so it's tough to give the correct answer. He doesn't return your tests back to you after they're graded. Powerpoints and quizzes are useless.I had to make 200+ flashcards a exam and I would barely pass them & my major is biology. Don't risk it

Most people get A's on all quizzes and HW as they are fair questions that go with lecture. Grades will plummet with the tests. This is a trend with our grades. Tests are UNNECESSARILY hard and will significantly drop your grade.

Do not take him his tests are crazy hard and he is impossible to reach. Most of your grade is made up of the tests and homework and quizzes barely help. Even his 1 extra credit assignment was like 2 points and it did nothing for my grade. He claims the tests are based mostly from his lectures but that is just not true. just avoid him tbh.

Amazing professor! He is really caring and enthusiastic about invert zoo! The only way this class would be boring as some people are claiming in previous ratings...is if you had no interest in zoology. Why are you there then? I had a great time learning from this professor. He learns people's names, grades quickly, and offers extra credit.

Lectures available as pdf/video. Exams were much harder than questions on homework and quizzes, so I ran out of time even after studying. Beware of assignment due dates/TIMES because it's not your normal 11:59 PM. Quizzes are based off lectures and easy to complete. Homework is online and also easy to complete with multiple attempts.

Very enthusiastic about his field and showed videos of various creatures. You definitely need good notes, which can take some time. The tests were a fair translation of lectures and had extra credit questions at the end. If you like invertebrates, you would like him. Unfortunately, I think he is retiring, and I wish him the best.

All of his homeworks and quizzes are super easy to get from the textbook and his lectures, but when it comes to his tests, I felt like he never gave enough time for his tests and questions weren't as easy to find in the textbook and lectures. Everything is open note, but still very difficult, definitely study.
