Awesome teacher!!! Very nice, EXTREMELY helpful in all situations. Highly recommended. But I wouldn't buy the book, I never used it.

Urbanovich is by far the best teacher at crafton. Hes easy to understand, makes speech fun, and never assigns anything thats very hard (if you dont mind speech).

Extremely fun teacher. It is a speech course so expect to talk a lot. It's hard at first but you will be friends with everyone soon enough. However, if you are in the Honors class, the grading scale is much harder for you. Excellent teacher - high point of my day!

Jim Urbanovich takes you by the hand and pulls you right out of your shell. He is amazing!

Jim is AWESOME!! I loved his class. He has so much insight that you can't learn from reading textbooks all day. You might be shy at first, but after a while, you're friends with the whole class and the environment is very enjoyable. He's a total babe too ;)

Mixed feelings about him. I personally thought he was abrasive but other people seemed to like him. I would not take him again though.

I put this class off as I dreaded speech. He made us feel comfortable and welcome and not "on the spot". I took this as a hybrid online class and it was a positive experience thanks to Jim. We met 4 times the semester and did the rest online. It isn't as easy a class as I thought but I recommend it! It is the best of both worlds.

He's a good teacher and the class meetings are actually enjoyable; it's his grading system that kills you. He's a C-Grade teacher. Unless you go "above and beyond" there's no way to get anything more than a C (required coursework makes you "average"), and god forbid you miss anything or get a few points docked because it's very easy to fail.

Didn't like him at first, but as time went on he was great! I did not want to take speech but, after the hybrid class I took with him I am almost looking forward to the next one. He makes the class fun and wants everyone to feel comfortable. Put some effort into your work and you will do great!

He is good looking, he is personable...DO NOT MISS A CLASS! DO NOT MISS A DEADLINE! I got a "C"...I tried hard, don't expect an easy "A"....but if GPA isn't a big deal to you (The C made me cry) then take his class, you will get something out of it. Wish he would get over his "C is a good grade in my class" and give "B"!!!!!!! "B" is good Mr. U!

For good and easy to understand professor. No textbook required for an A just show up and do your work. Looks like Owen Wilson grades with a check plus check check minus system. not a difficult A

Urbanovich is AWESOME. He understands that the only reason most people take speech is because it's required. I took a 9 week class of his and I wish it was longer. Yes, you give a speech in front of the class and and after you stay up in front and get critiqued, but he's really nice, not rude like others say on here. Definitely take him for speech!

Great teacher! He expects you to work hard for your grade. If you dont understand something, just ask him! He is always willing to help and explain. He does expect alot from his students. Do the assignments and stick to the deadlines!!

Awesome Teacher!! I really enjoyed his class. He's really strict on attendance and grading, thought. Really interesting lectures. I highly recommend him if you want to learn how to speak in public.

He can be rude but is a very helpful teacher when you ask for help. Expect to do work, there's no easy A in this class. He grades your speeches in front of the class which is not as bad as it seems. He will tell you what you did wrong but also give you positive feed back. Do not say sorry during a speech! He takes his class very serious!

Great teacher, really enjoyed this class even though I thought it was gonna be terrifying. His speech outline really makes it easy to create your speech. Definitely recommend this class to everyone, even those who are completely terrified of speaking in public, you will get through this class with a smile on your face! Good luck!

At first he came off like a jerk, and he is, but it's because he wants you to succeed. He has a sense of humor that you can't to heart, but I loved how his class ran. It was a very helpful class and he made you want to so better and I promise if you stick with it, you will be a better speaker

It's been five years since I've taken Urbanovich's Intercultural Communications class and a week doesn't go by without a quick memory from his class. Crafton is very lucky to have this professor--a true gem with a university-worthy presence. Purely engaging, passionate, and accepting of all-comers. This prof fostered my ability to think objectively

Jimmy is one of the best profs ever. I hate group projects and I had the best time ever in his class. Wouldnt recommend if you hate engaging and having conversations but otherwise he's fantastic!

I'm an introvert so this was not an easy class. I think he grades you based on your improvements and I really appreciate that because everyone is on a different level when it comes to public speaking. I can honestly say that I was somewhat able to conquer my fear of public speaking in this class.

Really happy that I had the opportunity to have this professor. He seems genuinely interested in the students who care more than they have to about school. I've enjoyed all the class discussions, and he has a lot of insight and experiences to share. I think having Jimmy as your intro to communications class professor, is very beneficial.

Jimmy is a very difficult grader, harder than any of my Bio professors. Take note of everything he says, write down every thing you can because your inability to listen properly will lose you a lot of points. Awesome lectures because of the golden snake. At first I thought he played favorites, but I figured out that the better of a public speaker you are, the more he tears you apart after your speeches because he expects more from you. You don't have to be an amazing speaker at the end of the course, but he expects to see some improvement after each speech you do. There is homework, book is needed

Class assignments consisted of a lot of reading, weekly blackboard assignments, 5 papers, and a final project. There are also three field trips on the weekend and you can only miss 1 class before it effects your grade; this was a hybrid class. Be ready to discuss topics people shy away from. We all voiced our thoughts and grew very close. Be open!

LOVED JIMMY! Great guy that really loves what he teaches. Class is super easy if you are on top of your speeches. It's a beginner class, he doesn't expect perfection. Two very small tests, open to take as a class (both online). 4-5 speeches given in class. Optional opportunity to speak in front of school (not scary). Your choice speech topics!

James Urbanovich made speech class more interesting with humor and a casual ambience. He also had empathy for students who were painfully shy. I would definitely recommend this instructor.

I took his public speaking class and his comm in a tech world. He is my FAVORITE professor ever. Hes funny, gives extra credit, listens to his students, easy going and approachable. For his public speaking class, he does grade your speeches honestly(still very easy) For his comm in tech world class: VERY passable, just do the work and read!

I hate speaking in front of a class, but he was super supportive and nice. Of course, this was taken during the pandemic so it was all online. Not too much work, just the usual amount. We only had one zoom meeting and the rest was online.

Very down-to-earth guy. He seemed to genuinely care about what his students took from his class. The books and other materials he chose for us were terrific. I feel like I grew as a person taking this class.

I took Urbanovich in Summer 2023. He's very informative and if you take the fast pace online course, like I did, there is no room for leniency or modifications. His grading's based off many things and teaches his class to prepare someone in a profession towards public speaking, which I agree with. So he's semi-strict. He has a chill personality.

Depending on the class you have to take, you may end up giving speeches or presentations, lots of them. That could be a good thing if you need to work on your skills. The class feels more like a family than just peers, the professor makes the classroom feel like a home to be who you are. He is very respectful of opinions.

Interpersonal class. 3 speeches a semester. 1 homework assignment due every Monday, it is only 1 paragraph and very easy. One final that you take online with notes and help. And a final interview of your choice. He is definitely a quirky guy, with some interesting opinions, but very easily likeable. Would recommend over any other COMMs professor.
