Straightforward class. Lectures straight out of the book. HW is easy as well. Most think is exams are hard, but if you goto the book's website, questions are exactly from there =) Recommend.

If you follow his notes in class, you'll do fine on the exam. But you have to do homework problems. Reccommend taking his stats class particularly in the summer. He's a fair grader, and gives extra credit.
Statistical Methods class is an easy A. Just do the homework problems from the book & you'll pass the class w/ an A. Vanderhoff's really cool. Easy tests!! I think Vanderhoff needs to talk about himself a little bit more. Open book and open notes exams!!

This professor's policies are very fickle. He says one thing and does another, somewhat hypocritical. He may sometimes try to pull a fast one on people, so have your guard up. I certainly WOULD NOT reccomend this professor, if you are interested in econ.

He's a really good teacher, he answers student questions really well, but if you do the homework you'll be able to understand everything. I got an easy A

You will do it all on your own if you take this class. Yes he rather talk about football and politics than teach but I rather listen to that then Stats. Get a tutor, learn on your own. He will curve the s**t out of a grade and is a relief from the boring humdrum typical professor.

All i do is the reading and the occasional lecture - none of the suggested problems, and i'm getting an easy B with a shot at an A. He covers everything that will be on the exams, spends one to two lectures reviewing for each exam. No comprehensive final, no graded HW. What more do you want???

true he talks a little politics, but hey, he's conversing with us rather than talking AT us...if you read the assignment BEFORE class, like you're supposed to, you will see he covers it...then you can ask questions, plus there are tutors that can help you and the website...try sparknotes.com
he really seems like he wants his students to understand the material...but he makes it sound easy..so maybe it is to him..but hes been doing it for years..also, the handwriting needs improvement coz u cant understand the stuff on the board
He's a horrible man who makes fun of his students and doesn't care when 25% of his students drop out of his class after the second exam. I recomend that you take good notes because test are open book and notes but don't ask him any questions by email or walk up to him in person.

this professor is unbelievably hard!!! lectures are not clear at all...mostly discusses politics in class, hardly any of the Q's on the exam are about politics...extremely hard and confusing exams, failed the class...i would recommend any other prof.
The worst teacher i have ever had. He's thinks he's funny, doesn't taking his teaching seriously, and is constantly making errors on lectures and on his exams. I can't believe Rutgers hasn't fired him yet.
Oh my goodness! This class is sssoooo boring! The materials and lectures are so broad; there is a lot to remember for the exams. I had to get on the grind to get a B for the class, but I think I developed some brain defencies in the process. (Good Luck to whomever takes it!)
Horrible professor...would talk about stuff in class that wasn't even on the test...wouldn't explain the text stuff even though that was the important stuff on the tests...puts you to sleep...don't take him unless you want to waste your time and fall asleep in class
I took this class in HS got an A-- took the class in college-- he confused the hell out of me.. ended up with a C. He talks too much about other things-- doesnt really explain stuff. Worst teacher ever.

I would not recomment this professor to anyone. He does not know how to teach. His exams may appear easy if you read the text and understand everything which is not likely to occur which is why most students find his exam to be difficult.
exams are open-book/open-notebook. he doesnt explain much of anything in class. try to work out the problems on your own, then ask questions. good luck getting an answer out of him though, cuz he avoids questions and for some reason, he always gets a different answer from whats in the back of the book. hmmm....
THE Worst professor I've ever had. He's trying 2 be funny, but he's not at all. Very unclear, BORING!!!!!!!, very unhelpful. Exams r hard n based on...hmmm God knows what. He avoids answering ur questions. He's good at putting people to sleep.If u have to take microeconomics do urself a HUGE favor, don't take it with him!

If you study the text you will pass easily, just make it seem like to him that you are actually interseted in the course and he will give you a good grade.
I studied hard, read the text, and I was always present in his class and i still got a C! He doesnt give the usual test like definitions, typical multiple choice and stuff..He really makes it difficult for students to answer! He is disorganized and doesnt explain the lectures well.
This guy is horrible. 1) He constantly makes mistakes on the board(does the problems wrong, SKIPS steps). 2) On the tests he is very unclear, if there are 3 ways to do a problem s, you'll lose points if you don't do it the way he thinks is best for that problem.3) He sucks at teaching, does 1 example per concept and thats it. Avoid at all costs.
Teacher has very atroscious hand writing that makes it almost impossible to understand his notes on the board. He uses real world application in class which at least makes it intersting. In order to get a good grade, it is imperative to read the text or else your left in shambles.
Overall a bad experience, it's sad that something as interesting as econ gets bad rants because of teachers that, if organized themselves a little more, could make the class actually answer him and do decent. If you’re stuck in this class read and pray.
The people making bad comments on this professor are more than likely of subpar intelligence, so disregard. Unfortunately, many of the new era of Rutgers students forget that this RU is a fine institution and work / study time needs to be placed at home. He is more than accomodating to any needs if you visit him in his office.

He is very helpful and his classes are very interesting
This class is a VERY EASY "A" if you just TAKE NOTES!! His test q's are EXACTLY LIKE THE ONES HE DOES IN CLASS except with different numbers. You don't even have to study at home at all, gives no homework. Anyone not getting AT LEAST A "B" is just lazy!!
Lectures are pretty interesting, and his exams are easy!! Considering him for Stats-Methods as well.
the guy is a redneck Bush supporter. always talks about politics in class instead of teaching. test have nothing to do with the book, so you just have to pray for the best. he was actually stupid enough to post the test answers online the day before the exam, but i guess he found out people were cheating so he didn't count the grade.

He gives you the keys to get an A in his class the first day of class with his excellent blackboard reasources, if you are too dumb to use them thats your fault. I found both his econ classes extreamly easy after reading the book, attending class, and looking through blackboard. He does have a rather distastful right wing view on everything though.
Class is SO EASY. I took it during the summer. Easiest A I've gotten in college so far. Just read the book and come to class. All test questions come from book and lectures (which are bearable even if you're not interested in economics). This guy gets a bad wrap but honestly he's a pretty decent professor. You get out of the course what you put in.
I had him in spring 06. He is the most ignorant, selfish, distasteful teacher I have ever had at Rutgers or anywhere else for that matter. He is one of those teachers that try to brainwash his students into believing his extremely biased views.

Many people will put him down, but those individuals mostly dislike him because of his political views. As a teacher he is clear in his lectures, and willing to help you. Everything on his exams is covered in class. Let face it, this is a college course on a difficult subject. He is also a breath of fresh air at RN if your not a closeminded liberal

Pretty good professor. He has old exams posted and the new ones are pretty much like those. I went to every other class and hardly studied and I still got a B.
I liked his teaching style way better in stats than his eco class. (I was so lost during his eco class) His stats exam is open book which is really easy because you just cant seem to memorize all those formulas! He's a bit unorganized in his notes and lectures but if you really pay attention, read the book and go to class, you'll be fine.
Prof. Vanderhoff is not a bad prof. he talk clear and it is easy to understand him. his test are a little hard but he allow you to use the book,notes, and previos test of his during the test. and if you need help he is willingful to help you during his office hour. i took his class in spring 06 and gat 90+ on all his test.
Took this professor for Stats and Macro. Stats exams are open book- and he holds review sessions in his office before exams. Macro was a little more difficult- it is possible to do well if you read the material and study well. Overall a good professor- just put the effort in!
OMG...i dont know what to say. Even though I got an A in his class, his teaching methods are crazy. He is not clear at first, but through repetition he pounds this stuff into your head. The tests are open book and you basically look at old tests and try to figure out how to do the problems. He is an ok Professor...if you can take someone else.

given the chance I would not take this class again with this professor. He speaks in abstraction and it is impossible to read his handwriting on the board. He gives you his old tests to study from but they do not help you in any way on your test. NOT RECOMMENDED PERIOD
Rutgers University needs to get rid of this professor. He's absolutely useless! He goes off on tangents! And commonly asks "does anyone have anything else to say about this," and is usually met with silence because no one knows what he's talking about! Retire early, please?

I have taken a few classes with vandy and I can tell you he is easy as pie. He takes all his test questions from the test bank, he basically tells you what will be on the test. He explains things very clear as well. One thing he does not do is go up there and act the fool for the amusement of the students, take the class seriously because he will.
This guy is completely useless. His lectures are horrible and he writes the most random notes on the board. Good teacher for Econ 101. Blatant far-right politics (that he slides in with his lectures... some NATURAL economist!) and atrocious handwriting (good luck taking notes from the board) aside, he is well-spoken, helpful (if you ask) and knowledgeable on the subject, and has a sense of humor. If you read the book, and attend the classes, you'll pass.

easy class if you read the book. Teacher has a good sense of humor and isn't that hard to follow if you pay attention. Definitely incorporates his political views so be objective, it is good to get opinions on current events.

Read the book, attended every lecture, took notes, did the practice question, he let us use a cheat sheet, and still ranged in the 50's/60's for the exams! with a 60 average at the end got C so atleast he curve, but i had to work really hard for tat C. his lectures are all over the place. avoid is possible.
This Professor should literally be deemed unfit as a HUMAN nevertheless an instructor. Seriously, this man should be held to home confinement for being so USELESS. If you are willing to attend class, pay attention & take all his notes, and put in a couple hours outside of class weekly, it is easy to attain at least a B in his classes. He's willing to answer students questions as long as they aren't ones that the student should have known since the first week of class. He curves a bit.Very straight forward
Money and banking the HARDEST CLASS THAT I HAVE EVER TAKEN. i GOT C, luckily he curves my grade. There is no other choices b/c he is the only one teaching the course. So i would recommend you take it in your senior year or whatever
Avoid! With the amount of study i put in i got a B by working my ass off, but AVOID. Other STATS teachers are much better... this other stats prof.. gives 10-15 point CURVES on every exam.. u get an 85 that could be a 100.... or a 95. Gives u test samples and lets u use book, but FOR WHAT?? He's gonna try to trick u from quest 1 to quest 10!! avoid
AVOID.. learn statistics from someone ELSE! I took his Statistical Methods course even though I was warned...I learned the material myself and got B's but NOT WORTH ALL THAT WORK!! 1) the wording on his tests is tricky. 2) he spends half the class period talking about political issues or problems that WONT be on the exam!
He was a pretty good professor, lot of extra credit. once in a while he would come out with weird funny jokes. i recommend taking him, and for some odd reason he talks about coate alot, whom i hate ohhh so dearly.

This professor likes to input his own opinion on every lesson. He is VERY smart and knows what he's doing, though sometimes he doesn't communicate it as well as we'd like. If you want to pass DEF. read the book!
Well what can i say, I had him for money and banking, hes pretty hard to be honest. However, he knows his stuff, just read the textbook and you will be ok. Honestly, I enjoyed his class, hes funny as hell and thanks to him and some other econ professors i became a right wing lol democrats are idiots haaaaaaaaaaaaa
This class is very easy if you go to ALL the lectures. Never opened the book and got an A. Bases his tests on EVERYTHING said in class; take really good notes and you'll ace his tests. Also, DEMOCRATS BEWARE. He never misses an opportunity to bash on them (backs up his arguments with really good reasons though). Good helpful professor overall.
Mediocre teacher that never misses an opportunity to spew right-wing garbage, rather than teach economics(e.g., an entire class on why G.W.B was unfairly maligned as president, while another class was held on how horrible the Bill Clinton years were). Avoid.
Prof. Vanderhoff is a nice man with good intentions, but if you are not a Bush-Cheney loving Republican you can find his lectures quite annoying (although slightly amusing). Still, it is hard to learn and dicpher what is opinion from economic truth. The tests are difficult no matter how hard you study. You can get a B, but an A can be impossible.
As a political Nazi Professor Vanderhoff tortures his students (hints victims) with his political views like no one on earth. WARNING BEWARE: Upon taking his class I warn you that his class is a monarchy where upon only he is king of the castle and his students are his subject corrnys!
R.E Econ- Honestly people, grow up, everyones entitled to their own Political Ideology. Bottom line he knows his stuff! If you can read between the lines you'll be fine. And on another note I had a family matter before midterms and he was completly understanding and obviously isn't heartless. He's understanding and expects students do their part.
I actually learned a lot with Vanderhoff. He touches mostly on current events and grades fairly. I was nervous based on some other comments but took him anyway and I'm glad I did.
The prof posts old tests from his prior semesters, PRINT THEM OUT RIGHT WHEN HE STARTS TEACHING, if you practice the problems on the tests, you are already 50% bester then those people who dont, GO TO TUTORING IF OFFERED. TAKE ALL HIS NOTE WORD FOR WORD. you have to do work to pass, obviously. I suck at math but managed with a B. Take it seriously.

He gives out easy homework and exams where I can bring in a whole page of notes. On the final, you get to bring 3~ He uses examples in class on the exams so you should definitely go to class. He always goes off on tangent, but it is a good rest from paying attention. Funniest part of class is how he pretends the mic is on when it's clearly not! lol

Ok everyone needs to get over themselves. He is an awesome professor and is so funny I Love his stories, they actually pertain to his lectures, to prove a point. So what he's a republican? that's his choice he never once said "you all need to hate Democrats". Just go to class, take notes and do your hw and you'll pass. It's college not daycare.

First thing first: Lay off the cheesy comments and corny jokes.I've to admit he is one of worst Stats professor ever! you'll be dreadful if you take him. I passed because of the TA. He teaches us stuff we would learn in Intermediate Stats or Stats II. He has an attitude at times when students ask him for help in explaining the problem.Be warned!!!

If you are a democrat, ask a lot of stupid questions, don't like coming to class, don't have a sense of humor, and very impatient with people, DO NOT TAKE HIM. That being said, I like him. He's very straight forward with the material. He kind of leaves it up to you to understand the material. He's kind of tough, but he's alright.

This class is hard and so are his tests so you'll definitely need to go to the recitation class if you want to pass this course. Just study the materials that he gives you and ask questions if you don't know something. Overall, his a good professor and a funny guy. Oh, and be sure to know how to get the mean or you'll get an F in the course.

If you actually want to learn then take Prof. Vanderhoff! Even though attendance is not mandatory, you are still better off going to class and taking notes. Take good notes, read the textbook, and do well on all the weekly quizzes you are almost guaranteed an A!

Doesn't clearly explain concepts or go over them to ensure understanding. Very unhelpful and turns just about everything to a politically conservative argument. Every assignment and exam showcased several spelling/grammatical mistakes which showed his lack of devotion or effort.
please, please, PLEASE listen to this bit of advice- if you can, avoid this guy. I had him for mico econ and thought he wasn't too bad until i got to stat. he is horrible! he doesn't explain anything, so sarcastic, unhelpful and rude. i'm a junior and had never received anything lower than a B+ until this class- ended up with a C after the curve!

Absolutely terrible professor. Every single point he attempts to make turns into how Obama is ruining this country, Reagan is next to God and no Republican can do anything wrong. Funny professor. I found the course itself, very difficult. As a politically neutral-minded person, I found his pro-Republic comments very amusing and sometimes insightful. Make sure you make GOOD and COMPREHENSIBLE notes. If you do, you will not even need your book. Crazy curve at the end of the sem. Went from a C to a B+. I recommend this prof.

Statistical Methods. His grading system will make you believe is lower than it actually is. Sort of an amusing professor. Very conservative. Has bad handwriting so make sure you follow him during the entire class. Difficult exams but they're open note and open book. Overall, take this class with caution. If possible, try someone else.
I swear... why are we keeping this professor? Teaching classes and failing students who want to learn. He doesnt even teach for crying out loud! horrible professor, he seriously is. attendance isn't mandatory but you better go to class almost everything he says is on the exam, but he talks so fast and just puts up random things on the board. only good part about him is he allows a cheat sheet and curves, even then he's exams are difficult. class average is 40-50. I'm not a math person nor am I a conservative. I still enjoyed both classes I took with Vanderhoff and would take him again. You've gotta do the work and earn your grade, the man will help you so long as you help yourself as well.

At first he comes across as annoying because he's a conservative. However, I ended up with a B in his Micro class, and now I have him for Stat. He grows on you. In his own way, he keeps the class interesting. Exams are pretty straight forward. Take him!
He definetely puts on a mean front but hes actually not a bad guy. If you go to his office hours and actually talk to him hes very nice and will help. I thought he taught stats better than micro, but he also gives take homes for micro which helps. SUPER amusing guy, ill def miss him.
worst professor i ever had, never prepared to class, makes contestant mistake on the board and on the exams, the attendance is not mandatory but he will use his own formulas that are not in the book and he will expect you to use them on the exam. 4 exams, all with practice exam posted online, but don't be fooled, questions are confusing.
If you are looking for easy stat professor take Majid Sani very easy each exam is multiple choice, with sample exams posted online. haft calculating problems half book definition, very straightforward and to the point. you definitely have to study but if you just memorize for the test you should be fine.
He's the worst professor I had...his views on politics is very extreme and illogical. The dude has something wrong with his head, maybe a bad childhood. He has no mercy on the students.

Tough Professor, not a bad guy, very opinionated, shows no mercy, will help you if you ask, relates microeconomics to everyday life which helps for people to remember, Strict on assignment due dates & structure, Audio Record his lecture and you will pass his class, he tells you whats gonna be on his tests, don't memorize terms but understand them.
If you wanna learn about his life, take him. He goes over the problems pretty quick, doesn't explain how to do it. The exams are off from the previous semesters though the numbers have changed. Open book, open note. However, you just gotta read the questions carefully. Make sure to check what he graded. This guy is careless.

A tough grader but a great guy. Even though I didn't get an A in his class I learned a lot and he's always there for help in you need it. A little sarcastic and very republican. Sometimes he lets his political opinions come into his lectures and he become biassed, but he's still great! I also took him for basic stats.. i recommend him!
Only gives four tests but they are all open notes and open book. He also posts his old tests and recommended problems in the book to practice. Stats can be a tough subject but if you put in the work you can get an A in vanderhoff's class.

DO NOT TAKE HIM! Worst professor ever. He does not go through any of the test material in class. YOU WILL FAIL no matter what you do. He is a super tough grader and makes you listen to an hour long boring podcast every week. The exam has absolutely nothing to do with anything he does or says. You will need to read the text book yourself!
Attend all of his classes, otherwise you will not pass. Take detailed notes, it will help you for the exam. His exams are tough, but there is a crazy curve in the end.
AWFUL professor. He told stories for half the class and barely taught. He complained about his life the whole time, and during our exams, he would be drinking from a flask! Worst professor ever. Spends his time denying climate change and does not give material relevant to exam. Not fit to be a professor. Had illegible handwriting. He decides if your answers are correct not based on fact. But on whether they fit his mold. You might as well get Donald Trump to teach you. He'd probably be better and more fair.
Overall, he was one of the worst professors i ever had. He acts like a child also he pushed his republican ideal in every lecture and exam. It so tiring . Also, if you are taking the class sit in the front because his handwriting is awful. my word of advice is if you have the opportunity to have another professor, don't take this class.
Do all the take home quizzes and hand them in on time, if you hand it in one minute late its a zero. Aim for at least 50's on his two exams and a 50% on the final (100 of the 200 points) and this should set you up for a B at least. No textbook needed!Just print his notes from BB and pay attention to what he goes over the most in class! Study those!
His class was one of the most difficult class I ever had. But hand in all the take home quizzes and study from his notes. He will ask everything from his notes. Answer from anywhere else and you won't pass. I struggled a lot but did managed to get an A in his class. Not the worst professor. He gives you questions that he'll ask and answer to it .
An amazing professor that explains his material in detail and provides good examples. Gives economic facts instead of liberal sugar coated propaganda. Wish he could teach all my classes. Just be open minded and listen in class, there is a lot you can learn from him that you can't from others.

I would avoid taking stats with him if math is not your best subject. He tends to move pretty quickly with his lectures and it's easy to get lost. The problems he lists on Blackboard as practice are usually worded differently than his exams. Expect to do lots of self-teaching outside of class if you want a good grade.

He's definitely one of the worst professors I've ever taken. Almost all the professors in the econ department suck. If you do take him make sure you go to every class because, he tests on topics that aren't in the book. He also gives out his previous year's exams and takes questions from that for the midterms and final. Good Luck you'll need it!
Does have terrible handwriting, and is not that great of a professor overall as he usually goes on tangents or goes through the material quickly. However, as long as you read the textbook and look at his past exams he posts on blackboard you can easily get an B/B+. Also his conservative viewpoint is quite refreshing in a mostly liberal college
At first, this class was. The exams were easy in the sense that it they were multiple choice, but many answers that seemed right turned out to be wrong. The lectures and notes contribute a lot to the exams. Overall, doing well on the final can really help your grade.

TERRIBLE professor, would not recommend if he was the last math professor on the planet. Tests are extremely hard and gets upset when people ask questions during the lecture. Expects everyone to understand all the work. Within the first exam 50% of the class dropped, after the second exam another 25% dropped, after the third i was gone.
2 mids 1 final. He showed up to every lecture drunk. You need to listen to every lecture in the second half to pass the final. 1st half covered by book 2nd covered whatever he thought was needed. Conservative view in liberal view. Take it as you will. Get a voice recorded to play back lectures.

Hes so difficult, do yourself a favor and take another stats class I promise you This class gave me so much anxiety and even though I went to every class I still dont understand a thing. Vanderhoff literally tells you EXACTLY what's going to be on the tests during the review and while he lectures, but if you haven't been going to class this won't help (and that's on you). Really smart guy, one of the smartest Professors at Rutgers with different political leanings, which is a breathe of fresh air compared to the rest of campus .
Even though he is annoying you HAVE to go to class, he goes over problems in class that will be on the test or were on previous tests. His exams from previous years are on blackboard so do them and ask him 'similar' questions in class and know/memorize them for his exams. You have to do things on your own but the resources are definitely there.

This genuinely might be one of the worst professors in the entire country. He rambles about politics more than anything, it's evident in his exams as he can't seem to have a test not mentioning trump. He is a tenured professor that doesn't care because he has job security. First exam messed up wording of several questions which affected how they were done, told class he wasn't giving credit for mistake and we should “cry about it”. An awful professor AND a person. For our Stats class, we were supposed to be able to use Microsoft on all our exams, and then he stopped making that an option when the grade average had gone higher than his previous years. Although he did not catch anyone cheating, he assumed the grade average was higher than in his past years. Gives no one mercy..
Worst professor ever. Forces his political agenda into a stats class, calls himself a “right-wing extremist,” mocks students, and brags about people failing. His handwriting is illegible, there's no proper study material, and he changes test rules mid-semester. When questioned, he yelled “I don't care, report me.” Completely unprofessional. Avoid.
I never rated anyone on here ever before, but this guy's was the first and only class that I actually withdrew from due the sheer difficulty of his right winged exams, homework assignments were sometimes impossible to complete because of errors he had, rambled about Biden at every given chance and belittled students for asking questions.
