He explains concepts clearly and is easy to understand. The tests are kind of hard but he brings candy afterward =).
not the greatest teacher. He doesn't explain things very well and his tests can be hard. you don't have to do any homework though your grade is from quizzes and tests. If you take this class make sure you watch the videos. He brings candy for tests to.
For students who are good at Math. For those who hates math, it could be a difficult class.
He dropps your lowest test and quiz score which is nice but he isn't very helpfull and he's really strange. You'll have troubble in this class even if math is your strongpoint.
If you hate math, dont take him, He's very clear on what he wants but the class is hard. He's wierd
very well thought out and informative lecture. good class
I never seen any1 that took his class and liked him...the guy is a jerk and cannot teach for****!
ok teacher, if you can stand being treated like you're in 5th grade again. Dropping your worst scores really helps and he doesn't check homework even though he threatens to.
If math is easy take him b/c no homework. everything is explained in simple terms so kind of boring. Not sure if he is help full or not b/c I didn't need help. He gives you every equation & u can use it on test. Easy if u can put up with boring
Math isn't not a strong subject for me. This class more for those who have a strong math background because he isn't very clear. I ended up dropping this class because I did poorly on all this tests. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who has trouble in math like I do.
he is helpful teacher and if you do the homework you will do well in the class even if math is not you favorite subject it is easy to get a good grade in his class and he is always open to question so ask and he will show you how to do stuf don't be shy ask when you need help.
speaks in a monotone voice that makes u fall asleep...do yourself a favor and not take him
I think he has a color cordination problem, always wears cetain colorson certain days. Whats up with that??? He hates cell phones and threathens to take them away. I hated his class but I got a good grade he was easy...as far as a grade. but if you cant stand annoying people dont take him.
This teacher teaches statistics in a very simple manner. As long as you do the homework and pay attention to the lectures in class, you will definitely get an A, unless you're a complete moron I guess. But you can use notes on all the tests (5pgs. of notes on the final) so it's not bad at all.
He gives unexpected quizzes, which are hard. Allows one page of notes on tests. It's hard to get an A on the test because sometimes one problem is worth 3,5 or 10 points. He gives you some credit for trying if you show your work. Very helpful if you come to his office hours. It's hard to get an A
He does give pop quizzes, but they're not very hard and you can pretty much guess when they're coming. He's very helpful if you go to him.
i hate this guy, completely anal, makes you feel stupid for asking questions
He is very anal, but very clear and easy to follow. Pop quizes usually on Fridays. lets you have 2 pgs of notes for tests
Wouldnt recommend him to anyone. Too anal and cant stand his personality. No wonder why more then 50% of the class dropped out of his course.
Do not take his class. He is not nice, tests on material he doesn't teach, rude, enjoys when students fail. If you go to his office hour he acts like your bothering him. More than half of the class dropped. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I would rather get a root canal on every single tooth without novacaine before taking another class with Walker!!!!!
This guy has the worst attitude. He is extremely sarcastic and fake and does not answer questions well at all. However, class is very straightforward and most tests and quizzes are simple. I just could not stand him he made my mornings miserable. Got a B but i honestly hate this guy and i would not recommend him to ANYONE!
Although he gave me a C, he is still a good teacher. He is always willing to help. He teaches clear and understandable. If you missed a problem on a test, he tries to give you partial credit if you showed your work. I would recomend him to a friend. He is not as bad as what many people wrote about him in the previus comments.
Super mean, didn't want to help at all. Has the worst way of scoring tests.
Lectures not relevant to course subject. Unexpected questions on tests that were not covered until later in the text. Rude guy, not helpful at all.
Very rude. Does not care whether you get the right answer or not, just whether you did it using the formula he taught you with. Ive failed many a quiz with the CORRECT answer because he didnt follow my work. Last time I checked, math was about getting the right answer, not how you get it.
Although he did try giving partial credit for totally wrong answers on tests, he was not a good teacher. I never felt prepared for tests, and his homework is a joke.
I agree 100 % with all of the other ratings. He is very rude and fake. He seems like he'd be a very nice and helpful guy, but just try an ask for help, he is an ****! He treats people like dirt and acts like they are below him. His lectures do not help all that much with hw and especially not with tests. I would NEVER recomend him to anybody.
Professor Walker is odd, but overall he is a good teacher, he explains the chapters thoroughly and writes everything on the board; however he is not lineant on anything, every time I tried to go up after class to ask for help he would just tell me to look back in the book or syllabus. He wouldn't not help so I practically gave up asking.
Nice teacher. Would definetly recommend him. Has open book quizes every week. ANd gives 4 tests plus the final and drops the lowest score.
HARD GUY, WOULD NOT RECCOMEND HIM TO ANY OF MY ENEMIES, EXTREMELY FAKE AND THINKS TO HIGHLY OF HIMSELF, A COMPLETE ****.
He is a good teacher and really easy as well. All his quizes are open note and open book. Every test you get a page of notes and 5 pages on the final. He teaches you how to do everything on your calculator so you don't have to write it all out. If you are easily annoyed by people's personalities you will probably drop him within the first week.
He's a little weird, you kinda just have to get used to him. But class was pretty easy, doesn't collect more than 2-3 hw assignments, open-book and open-note quizzes most weeks, plus 1 page of notes for each test, and 5 for final. Just don't depend on him to answer questions, he just refers you to the book. Not too bad tho.
I thought this class was going to be easy at first. He doesn't teach well, he writes everything on the board but expects you to get all the info. from just that. I wouldn't recommend him at all!
"EXCUSE ME THERE." SOMETIMES I FELT LIKE I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. YES HE DOES LET YOU USE NOTES ON THE TEST AND 5PGS OF NOTES ON THE FINAL BUT NOT TOO HELPFUL AT TIMES. OH IF YOU DON'T BUY HIS CALCULATOR THAT HE USES YOU ARE QUITE LOST AND HE REALLY IS NOT THAT HELPFULL TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT YOUR CALCULATOR.

very easy because he lets you use notes for the tests.
I agree with everything said about Walker, I really couldn't stand the man, and I really hate to do this BUT... I'm at a university now, and I am totally grateful that I took Walker's class. I retained a lot of what I learned and it is now helping me in my other classes. Stick it through guys, it'll be over before you know it!
This man is mean! He likes to make you feel stupid if you need help on a homework problem. WOULD NOT RECOMEND!!!
I found out too late that this guy has the worst reputation on campus for being a jerk. If you know math, what do you care. But if you don't, go somewhere else and avoid the scars this third world bureaucrat will give you. Peace out.
This class is SO easy if you just do your homework! Everyday, he'll either collect homework or give a 2-question quiz, each worth 10 points. He allows a 1/2 page of notes for each test. He teaches the material very clearly and repeats the info every day before going over the homework. Very good teacher, just do your homework each night! :)

the guy is pretty lame. he doesnt take attendence, so if you miss a couple classes, you wont get downgraded. he does explain the material very well and makes it easy to understand it. I got a C in the class, but didnt try very hard at the end. pretty solid class, but just glad to be done with math
I had his class two semesters ago, and let me just say that even though he was fairly good at explaining the material, he was a totaly jerk. Honestly, how many more "Guys?! Thanks," and "Oup, 'scuse me there," or "Real good," can ya handle? He has to have some sort of mental disorder, because frankly he repeats himself.
He talks down to his students, but this simplifies the material enough that anybody who is willing to try to learn can succeed. Easy to learn the way he teaches. I failed stats before, and with Prof. Walker I got an A and understood the material. I suggest taking his class if stats doesn't come easy to you.
If you don't take him seriously, its funny watching him get on to students that are sleeping or not paying attention. "Scuse me there" and "Mmmkay" start to become pretty funny since he says them 20 times a class period. Although hes a jerk, he clearly explains the material and makes the class very easy. Don't take him seroiusly and you'll be ok
His classes (and his tests) are easy if you pay attention. He only says "Uh, Guys, excuse me there" if someone is continuesly talking in class. If you pay attention, you'll do fine.
not a good teacher at all. Not a good helper.
Well Im still taking his class right now...am totally failing but hopefully i get the grade up. At first I thought this class would be so easy but i was wrong. Yes you may have a page of notes but it doesnt help at all. You got to really understand and know the material so study! I agree with the ppl below. Hes annoying and is no help at all.
Not very helpful. He doesn't understand that his students might have trouble wth the material or questions. Very into math.
I would not recommend you this teacher. Not very helpful.
Do not take this teacher if math isn't your strong subject. He does not clearly explain the material and is condescending if you don't understand it. He nitpicks if you're late and treats everyone like small children. I don't recommend him, take Karelius instead.
This is a terrible instructor!!!! Do not take him!!!!!!!!!
The class is not that easy. I failed, although he does give open notes for quizzes and test its hard to understand especially for those of you who have trouble with math. He isnt very helpful in answering your ques. on a stat problem. He always seem to be in a rush too. ONLY gives one extra credit & that extra credit is HARD dont take him!
He is terrible!Very unfair with his grading and takes of points constantly for no reason, he is a wierdo and you will dread his class if you take it for every reason you can think of.
Not a helpful teacher at all.
He is a great teacher and you will learn a lot IF you can tolerate his quirks. "MMMMMkay" and "Scuse me there" become pretty funny if you have a sense of humor about it. You get a page of notes for each test and he goes over everything very thoroughly. Just don't be late.
This teacher is impossible! If you're late you're instantly on his crap list. Bringing your book every day is beyond mandatory and for a lower division GE class he expects way too much.(especially if you're taking his class in the summer!)
Not worth taking. He grades hard and he's just not a good teacher.
Not an easy class.
Terrible. Decent teacher- gets the material across relatively well. Total jerk. If you can stand his "quirks"; "ummm, 'scuse me there", "hey there". Very unhelpful and belittling towards students. Homework and test work must be SPOTLESS- he is a nazi grader. Make sure you don't have any smudges! I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. EVER.
This teacher is no help what so ever. I made A's in all my other math classes and failed in his class. He does not explain the material well. He expects the students to know what he is saying while he is introducing new material. I would raise my hand to inquire (because you don't dare interupt him) and he would just ignore me. Don't take him.
Although this was not the greatest class I've ever taken, I think some of the postings I read about Walker were a little unfair. I made an A in his class and didn't have any trouble understanding the material presented in the lectures. I think he's a fine teacher.
I really like his teaching style, though it is unique and one of a kind. I don't suggest him for any level higher than math 120 though, becuase he is very straight forward and does not like to backtrack.
This is a very very good teacher. If you are looking for someone you can learn a lot from, go with Mr Walker. I'm terrified of numbers and doing great in his class. Be advised though, he can be a jerk. Do not be late, or he WILL yell at you; in front of everyone. But for real, he is crystal clear, and has a fantastic teaching style.
I love, and have followed, this professor for three semesters now. I think that he is helpful, clear, and fair in his teaching and grading style. He drops your lowest two quiz scores, as well as one test score, so you can't help but to pass. He can be strict on the rules of attendance and tardiness, but other than that he's great. =)
This guy is one of those that I would NEVER recommend. His testing strategy is totaly off the line. Does not want to help. You really have to make him to do a problem on the board. He does not go over the tests in class. Try to avoid him if you can!
worst teacher ever. does not help student when u need him. yes he knoes the material but doesn not know how to teach. do not take this class with him.
Jim walker is an excellent teacher. He is very clear and helpful. He goes over homework and answers every question you have about homework or whatever. He drops your two lowest quiz scores and one test which is cool. He is hilarious and an impecable dresser. I'm not strong in math but he makes it easier. Definitely take his class! "Blessyouthere"
horrible teacher. do not take him. knows material but teaching style is the worst. i do NOT suggest taking this teacher for any class.
Professor Walker is overall a decent teacher. I went into his class with low expectations after looking at all these reviews, but he's not terribly bad. He is pretty good a teaching, and is clear.A couple downsides, I wish he would have collected homework much more, it would have helped our grades a bit. Also, I wish he would have given studyguides
I would highly recommend taking his class. Very easy to follow and goes over any hw problems you have trouble with during class. Gets really irritated when you show up to class late, so show up on time and it'll be all good. Doesn't always collect hw and gives in class quizzes.
He's a little geeky, but he's a nice guy and goes over any questions you have in class. He also lets you use your book on quizzes in class, and you get to use a page of notes for the exams. It's easy, but at the same time you still need to know how to do the problems. He's a good teacher. I recommend this class.
not vary helpfull. rand quiz. cant even read your paper or calculator when you ask for help. on test he will mark you wrong if you dont do it is way and still get right answers. stuff dosnt like and told me not to take him. you can pass this class. you just have to know and do what he want. would only recommend if your really good at math
He explains things very well, he will repeat important material over and over again, so you'll definitely get bored pretty quickly. He gives plenty of time to solve a little problem, so most of the class time is just wasted. If you want easy class, take him. If you want interesting class, look for different teacher!
If you do the homework that he assigns every class, you will easily get an A in this class. He lets you use the book and notes on quizzes, and lets you use a page of notes (front and back) on exams. He even drops your two lowest quizzes and your lowest exam.
He is so precious! At first I didn't really like him but he explains things very well and is always willing to help. He may be a little odd but he has really good intentions! He lets you have a page of notes for every test and five pages for the final!
Great teacher, kind of cheesy :), grades fairly and lets you use a lot of notes on quizzes, tests and the final. You will easily pass if you pay slight attention and do the homework. All in all a very enjoyable class.
He's weird. But if you're a good student you will do well in the class. He does get irritated with misbehaving students.
He is always willing to help and he explains concepts very well. He doesn't put up with any nonsense like talking or cell phones which makes it a great class for those there to learn the material.
He is a good teacher. He has zero tolerance for lack of discipline, which is very good. He could be a bit more flexible in grading the exams, as he takes away points for little things. Over all, a good teacher and a good class.
Yes, he is annoying. But he hates to answer questions and gets annoyed if you see him too many times at office hours. He has super difficult tests and won't always collect the hw, plus he has random quizzes.
very entertaining professor. He loves stats and works hard to help his students understand. It's easy to fall behind because he moves fast but if you work hard the class will definitely be worth your while. I highly recommend him.
test, quiz, homework all connected, he doesnt really surpise on test or quizes pay attention and study, he sets it up so you can know exaclty where u stand, keep test and key the final is from the test, dont mess round in his class he doesnt like it..I liked him
He may come across as odd, but he explains the material very well. In fact, compared to other stats prof I'd say he does an excellent job at making sure the point gets across. HE lets you use notes on exam. DO the HW!!! I got A's on all tests, but skipped too many hw (because he collects randomly) and got a B in the class.
He doesn't collect every single homework assignment. You never know which one he's going to collect so do the homework and go to class because he does a lot of pop quizzes. Overall a great teacher, although he gets kinda weird sometimes. Very clear in his lectures and approachable if you need further help. I highly recommend taking him.
Not exactly sure why so many other students had issues with him. He has some basic rules: don't talk while he's talking, come to class on time, and come back from break on time. There's a break at around the midway of the class. A lot of times people will talk and not hear what he says then complain that he's not helping them. Not quite reasonable.
Many people think Walker is a hard teacher because he expects, gasp!, for you to behave like an adult in his class and not a high schooler! Do the HW, pay attention in class, and follow his rules and you'll do well! Make sure you attend EVERY class--he gives quizzes daily that are 10pts each and count towards your grade-- good teacher overall
Class is pretty straightforward. However, his grading is not. A friend and I had this class together. Did all the hw together yet always had different scores. Right answers don't always get you full credit. If your used to online hw this is not the class for you. He goes through all hand written hw with a fine tooth comb.
He is extremely clear in class and you should be able to understand all the work. He offers office hours if you need extra help. Make sure to do homework and quizzes. Quiz/HW will help you study for tests. He lets you use a note sheet for tests. If you are absent you can not turn in any of the work they turned in that day. Class was pretty easy.
Doesn't take attendance. He doesn't give handouts so expect to work hard. He expects you to be respectful, be on time, and turn off your phones. There are four tests. He may either collect the homework, or give a quiz, or do neither, so be prepared for anything in class. There are 2 bonus quizzes.
He is very clear about what he wants from you in this class. He teaches you exactly what you need to know in order to get an A. Its pretty easy to get an A in his class, just show up for class and do your homework.
In class he writes step by step instructions on how to complete the problems and clarifies formulas. Take notes! Bring book! Be ready to hand in HW or take a quiz (open book/notes). The only problem with him is if you ask a question he refers you to what the book says instead of answering in his own words. I still highly recommend this teacher!
Super easy class. Homework is only a couple problems from the book. One page of a cheat sheet on every test. Very technical in grading but do what he wants and you'll get an A. He's kinda weird but a good teacher
Professor Walker is quite odd. Be sure to be on time to class and be prepared to either turn in your homework (assigned daily btw) or take a pop quiz (open notebook) every class session. The tests were not too difficult but they do make you think a little. Overall, I would recommend him. His class, surprisingly, is not that time consuming.
Professor Walker is a great professor. Very clear and concise considering he's explaining such complex ideas. Even without handing in over 50% of the homework and having several absences I still had an A in the class. Take good notes and practice with the homework and it'll be an easy class.
I've taken this professor last semester, and he is one of the worst I've had. expect quizes every class session and he is extremely picky on how he grades his tests. Tests are always much harder then what he explains in class. Do not take this professor!!!!
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Do not take him unless you absolutely have too. I had him in spring 2015, cumulative 40 question final. You ask questions, he doesn't answer. Literally the worst professor I have ever had.
Mr. Walker was actually very helpful. If you write all of the notes then you will do fine. He lets you use your notes on the quizzes and allows one page of notes for tests, which saved me. He also allows you to drop one test and two quiz scores. If you have a question he will help. He hates it when students are late, however, which is reasonable.
He wasn't a helpful teacher, He's the type of person that answers a question with a question. There are only 4 exams which are worth 100pts each and quizes are only worth 10pts , even if you have a excused absence he will not all you to make up any exams. Drops lowest test score and 2 quizzes total out of 650pts and 200pts of that is your final.
This Prof. is really bad teacher. I had B grade (87%) because I didn't homework. But I love math and math for me how fish in the water. I never had problems with math before. He had a lot of stupid rules. For example, if you don't have squared paper - minus 10 points, if you don't use a pencil - minus 10 point. Thinking twice!!!
Professor walker is clear, concise, and articulates the material using straightforward, layman-accessible explanations. Doesn't assign too many HW problems, quizzes are open book/note, and he give extra credit and allows notes on tests. What more do you want? He expects you to be an adult and show up on time and pay attention. Immature folks beware
prof. walker is very tough grader. He is very picky take points for little mistake.
Professor Walker has no interest in teaching students. He's disrespectful and impatient. If you get confused and seek understanding you will be belittle and talked down to rather then assisted. At some point you will give up on asking for clarification and accept that what ever you get out of the lecture is all you are going to get. Lots of quizzes
Professor walker is nice person but he is not very helpful. He is very tough grader and test are hard. Four exams and cumulative final.
He's one of the worst teachers I've had. He only leaves the last 20 mins of class going over the section which are the most basic examples, so when you do the hw there's a lot of stuff you have no idea how to do. Test are hard, puts stuff that wasn't covered in hw or class on them. Doesn't care if majority of class doesn't understand a concept.
Do not take Professor Walker for any Math courses at ARC. He is an extremely tough grader and is very picky on how you do your homework and exams. If he can't understand what you are doing, then you will get the entire question wrong. He spends the last 20 minutes on examples that don't go with the homework. He won't teach you how to do anything.
If you've taken Calculus courses at ARC, Prof. Walker's courses are a cakewalk! Make sure you attend class and copy all the examples and practice the problems. There is homework, but it's not too bad. Quizzes are frequent, but not difficult if you understand the homework. Offers extra credit on exams as well. Overall good professor!
He is a nice guy. Very patient when you ask him questions and explains the points very well. The grading policy is clear. 5 tests for a semester. Not too much homework and the tests are easy. He is strict about you being late and has some specific requirements for solving a problem, but it's the right thing to do.
The best stat professorin in entire Northern Cali! Take him!!!
This is by far the worst math teacher I have had, he threatned to drop me from his class on week 2 because I dident do the review in class that he even said was not going to be collected or graded. He also wouldent allow my friend to re-take a test because she had to leave due to the fact her blood pressure was scary low and had to go to the nurses
At first he seems ok, then his true side comes out. Humiliated student when she asked for help with her calculator and another when she needed to use the restroom. Teaches basic problems and hard difficult problems appear on test. Find an alternate professor even if you have to go to another college to take this class.
The Professor doesn't explain fully and solves only 1/4 of the problem and then makes the students finish the problem with little or no knowledge. I would NOT recommend him due to the lack of explanation and the very, very, very fast pace. Seems like he thinks that we are supposed to know this math like 2+2. Overall I STRONGLY DONT recommend him.
can someone please provide his test answers tests 3 & on and or quizzes please!! no matter how hard i study its like he switches to different problems im not familiar with he doesnt explain very well :( A fellow student like youself
Dont take him. He dont go over the homeswork all the way because he said we dont have enough time to. Gives you homework but dont collect it and give a quiz every class instead. Makes you calculate your own grade and wont tell you your grad. If your absent you will miss a whole chapter so try not to miss. He doesnt accept any late work!!
I wouldn't recommended to take professor Walker. whatever he teaches in class it doesn't correlate with exams.
Great class if you like being spoken to like a toddler. Professor Walker is very robotic in his teaching style, and condescending in his tone if you have trouble understanding material. Hell give 1-2 examples during class, then assign homework with problems much more advanced than the problems he uses to teach the material.
Walker's not that bad. There's homework but all the answers are in the back of the book and he always goes over the problems in class. He lets you have notes for the exams, but not all the material he lectures on is in them so make sure to prepare for all topics. Lowest exam grade gets dropped and the quizzes are based on material he just taught.
Professor Walker was a good teacher. In this class you are required to have the textbook (as you will use it everyday) and a graphing calculator. He drops your 2 lowest Homework/quiz scores and 1 Exam score! He doesn't post grades online, instead each student has a grade sheet so you can calculate your grade yourself. I hope this was helpful!
first college semester at 29 yo here. fantastic professor, caring and humorous, if you tell him you're lost he'll stay with you until you're back to speed. course was tough at first, but after he teaches you a few tricks it all comes together nicely and i stuck the landing well. 9/10 would recommend. only lost a point bc he doesn't use canvas.
