Great Teacher, Tough Subject
not clear at all in his presentation of material, class is easy.
Nice guy, easy to work with...even easier to fall asleep.
boring boring boring
This class is sponsored by Nyquil
pointless and boring class...you can get an A w/o even going just do the papers
Great guy. Tests are fairly easy.
Enjoyed his class, this is how professors should apporach Gen Ed
Ward cares MUCH more about his students than any prof here
very difficult
Awww he is sooo nice and will help you with anything - GREAT guy and professor
Very nice guy. gives test reviews..lectures not very structured..good guy
nice guy, not good at presenting information though. no attendance policy.
I received an A in this course, do well on papers and it will boost your overall
Class can be boring, but its philosophy! He's very nice and pretty easy...
He is very boring, take a pillow because you will catch up on your sleep in here
boring as hell, test are hard as hell, he doesnt teach at all in class
pretty cool guy
Sleepy time
Tests are easy if you follow the study guide. Nice guy with a sense of humor.
nice guy, sense of humor... class is boring but easy... just do the test reviews
tests aren't cummulative, a few (usually 1) chapter at a time but class is borin
he's a cool guy....read the chapters thoroughly for his tests and you'll be fine
really nice guy... goes off topic a lot, but with study guide tests are ok
He is good, but strange, might take the class on a spiritual quest one day
very nice, but a little strange, overall hardly any out of class work
barely any homework...tests are a bit hard...read the chapters thoroughly!
No homework, drop lowest test grade, final is not culmlative, Easy. Nice guy
kinda boring, but tests are pretty easy, really cares about students
Awesome, actually cares about what he's doing!!
SO BORING....had to check my pulse 5 times, almost went into a coma
Very nice guy, cares about his students a lot, always willing to help, tests are easy, postpones things if you feel you aren't ready, easy class
Such a nice guy! Really cares about students. Can get a little off track during lecture, but provides study guides and reviews for exams.
very nice guy, cares about students, knows the material well. lectures can be a little off-topic and sometimes a little boring. tests aren't easy, but aren't too bad. gives review sheet for tests. not much homework.
He is a great teacher, he is a very smart guy. As long as you do the reading, the tests are a joke. Never any HW. Will push back tests. Is reasonable. Can be boring at times.
extra credit for coming to all classes, but doesnt require attendance. will push back assignments. take notes every day. tests can be semi-hard... but its just a matter of reading the text & whatnot- which i didnt do enough. i reccomend him.
nice guy...
i got a C in his class
Worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures are boring and gives unorganized notes, nice guy but not a very good teacher.
lectures are usually boring and notes are always unorganized, but if u do the reading tests are pretty fair, nice guy but not so great at teaching the material
very nice guy, understanding and not an *** about turning in things a little late, no homework, tests aren't terribly difficult and he does give you practice problems, have a B w/ minimal effort
He teaches a very stupid class well.... it's not the best material, but he does his best and makes 8 AM not so terrible.
He is such a nice guy and he really cares about his students. He really wants everyone to understand the material and do well. The material itself is pretty dry but he does his best and it isn;t too hard of a class if you just do the work.
He is really a nice guy and cares about everyone in his class a lot. As long as you go to class regularly and study before the tests, you'll be fine.
This is quite possibly the nicest teacher I have come across. I forgot one of my major papers on the friday it was due, but he just let me turn it in the next monday. His tests arent too easy, but it is philosophy. Take notes, and pay attention.
He is an ok guy and has randon stories which can be cool, but his lectures are very unorganized, boring, and useless. Tests can be rather hard and this guy always gives deep eye contact which can freak me out!
Nice professor. a little vague with his assignments and his tests can be a ****. but study hard and it will be a gratifying grade.
SO BORING! WASTE OF TIME! having this class as an 8am was the worst possible thing i could have done. I didnt even go to class and i did well on the tests. The class is a joke, i suggest him if you enjoy sleeping!
unorganized notes, but is very nice and helpful. tests are difficult, do well on the 2 papers and group presentation on a book to even out grades. very nice, information is hard all around, but he does the best he can with material. enjoyable teacher.
The class is dry but he tries to make it interesting with group presentations this gave the class a little life. He was an kind and considerate, excellent teacher. He was understanding in much and his attendance policy is awesome.
definitely boring material, but he's entertaining and tries to make you enjoy the class. just your average gened.
Will just stare at you when teaching if you sit in the front row. His tests suck, suppose to do a review sheet and put that on test, some what does that, overall class is so boring, get another teacher.
nice guy, willing to help but soooo BORING.tests suck & hes a bad grader. you wont learn anything and study guides for tests dont help.
he means well, but he is sooo boring. His tests are ridiculous for a gened class, but people started to do much better when he posted them online and you could use your notes. He isnt that bad, its just so hard to stay awake!!
Wonderful guy/teacher. Pay attention in classes, and study review sheet, you'll do fine. No attendence but gives random extra credit for being there. One paper, not that hard. Tests are straight off of the review. If you have to take GHum, take Him!!!!!!!
Makes subject matter interesting - obviously enjoys it. Takes time to get to know class. Makes a lot of eye contact, which helps with participation. Funny stories. Has a review for everything on test (anybody who says otherwise didn't try. Do the work = A
He is a "real person" in the sence that he doesn't hide behind his degrees or texts he's written. Very understanding and knowledgable. I wish more teachers took this much pride in their students. It's a rough start, but you'll be fine.
really great guy, knows the material well and tries to make class fun, is very personable and speaks clearly, makes notes on board kind of disorganized, but overall a good teacher
wow. so freakin BORING! Ridiculously unorganized. There is no point in going to class because you will get nothing out of it. I can't help but fall asleep!
Interesting
He is such a nice guy- he will work around what the majority of the class wants, and if he thinks that nobody is ready for an upcoming test, he will change the date... he will spend time clarifying anything that is hard to understand about the text. One of my favorite professors!
a little spacy at times, but once you understand his teaching style his lessons are pretty easy to interpret. i recommend reading the book, i read nothing and still got at least a c on every test. grades fairly, usually bumps up test scores, and will help you out in the end if you come to class. fun
Down-to-earth and positive, tests are online (open note, open book), curves tests to fit the class average, final exam optional. def take if you can listen in class and can use a book index! i got a B.
He's pretty cool. Tests online, don't have to go to class that often. He's interesting and shares personal stories. Lectures are interesting, but material is boring. Drops the lowest test grade, final is pretty much optional.
Extremely kind man, but disorganized class. Tells interesting stories to kind of admit that material is boring. Only bad thing about on-line tests is that there are always mistakes in the key, so your test score will initially be about 20 points lower than what you actually got.
This guy sucks. Sucks a lot. He can't teach at all. Never take his class. Vague, Disorganized, does not engage with students. Very unclear.
So Unclear. Jumps from one chapter to another. Talks to himself while teaching near board. Tests online are extremely hard. Make sure you go to those group things-attendance worth of 100 points. No point of going to that class. Awesome book but nothing on his tests from it.Do not take his class!!!!!
I LOVE his lecture style-it's full of real life examples-but I didn't like his tests. They're online, but the wording is tricky. Overall a really good class though-I think I pulled off a B. :)
he sucks and his class sucks. i slept through it practically everyday. when i was awake he was very disorganized and extremely boring. take another philosophy, i can't explain how sorry you will be if you take this class with prof ward
i have him for an 8am so its kinda hard to stay awake but he REALLY tries to make sure you understand everything before he moves on. he's really awkward sometimes but in a funny way.. kinda adorable. you dont have to go to class the day of tests, theyre online.. soo easy, straight from notes and book. reading the book isnt necessary, dont bother
Nice guy, kinda skips around a lot in his teaching. 6 Tests, on blackboard, and one research assignment that you have all semester to complete. No class on test days, and your attendance is a straight %. He's really nice, and doesn't move on until he knows you understand. Make eye contact and try to pay attention, and he'll like you.
I love professor Ward! All tests on blackboard! No class on days of tests- but go anyways for the reviews! He loves his little girl, and seems like a wonderful person. He likes to tell stories, and while some people don't think he's funny, I do. He LOVES class participation.
He's okay, but all he talks about is what's in the book. Read the book, you'll be fine. I find the class so boring. I skip it all the time, and still have an okay grade. A few tests, a little Religious Bio, and one paper. Take this class if you can teach yourself out of the book easily, cuz then you won't need the professor.
what has the potential to be an intresting subject is not the way he teaches, he rambles on and is very unclear and just as he is about to make a point he will move on to something else, he assumes we already know things , he gives study guides which you can find alot of answers in the book but a few questions on the test will come from lectures
As long as you go to class, you'll be fine. Print out the study guides he posts on blackboard and use them as a guide for taking notes in class before a new unit starts and you'll be fine. He goes into these weird tangents that are funny sometimes and awful othertimes. He also has a kid and is clearly about to snap. I enjoyed myself.
you can get a B with almost no effort, but class is boring. Ward is nice, a little unclear is always asking if things make sense
I was really excited to take grel at the begining of the semester, going to class turned out to be a headache, I think my biggest complaint would be his hadwriting which i could never decipher even in the front row of the class. Tests were pretty hard even with a study guide. He is a nice man but a poor teacher.
THE worst teacher I have ever had. Ever. I hated going to this class everyday. He does not seem to understand the material himself and is horrible at explaining anything. He also goes off on irrelevant tangents about his daughter which is annoying.
He's kind of corny, but most of us laugh at his jokes anyway. He may be confusing at first, but if you ask him to clarify with a real-world example he will explain it sufficently.
Pay attention. It's easy. I got an A. He's a really nice guy and any man who obviously loves his child that much if fine with me. I enjoy the stories--lighten up people.
TAKE THIS CLASS. pretty easy class, all test and quizzes are on blackboard and are open book and note. Ward is a real nice guy, at times it's hard to understand material, but he gives you enough examples to where you can understand. Gives examples that you can relate to which makes it easier. Attendance required but you wont mind going.
Ward is generally a nice guy who helps you when you need it. I enjoyed his class and his corny, but humorous jokes. Tries to relate to students which is helpful and give many examples of work before giving you a quiz. Always there to help a student out. Recommend anyone to take this class.
Great class, really enjoyed it. Hes a funny guy and likes to tell stories. I reccomend him 100%
Ward is a nice guy. Classes can be a little boring sometimes. All quizes are on blackboard so you can use notes. Material can be a confusing but he puts up powerpoints that are helpful. Get him if you can
Be careful...sometimes get the feeling that Professor Ward is confused about discussing the topic. Often goes on irrelevant tangents about his daughter. 'Quizzes' are really easy at first then get incomprehendable. Just be careful when taking this class.
Nice Guy! If you have a problem he is very willing to help.
This Professors lectures are Extremely Boring
Ward is a nice guy, but he's more interested in his personal life than class. He tends to play favorites, and the book is more helpful than the notes in taking the quiz. When discussing he uses words we don't understand and can be very confusing as he won't tell you if you're right or wrong. He knows his stuff, but isn't very good at teaching it.
Very boring teacher who had scatterbrained notes and tough tests.
He is an awesome teacher. He can get off topic but he really knows his stuff. Quizzes are on blackboard and open note, but can still be relatively difficult. If you really are interested in religion he is a great teacher.
This is one of the easiest classes i have ever taken. All of the tests are split into online multiple choice quizzes. He gives you the powerpoint online, and the exam is open book multiple choice online all of exam week. The only other grade in this class is a 2-3 page paper about your personal beliefs. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
This class is good, but you have to get on his good side. Funny guy most of the time. The quizzes can be very deceiving.
I think he could get totally creepy at time when talking about the material. Attendance is mandatory but you can initial your name in days after you miss class. Quizes off of notes both online. I did no work and got a B so out in some effort and youll get an A
He is very nice, but do not take this class. He tries to help in office hours, but it doesn't do much. Our final was optional to replace our lowest test grade, but it was so hard it was pointless. All the tests are online, but they are ridiculously hard. His notes are very hard to follow. He thinks he goes over more than he does. Very nice though.
Extremely unorganized. He just talks and talks while writing random words on the board and those are the only notes you get. He definitely knows what he's talking about and is extremely nice but he just does a terrible job conveying it to the students. Tests are hard. Books don't help that much.
Terrible professor. He's very unorganized and never remembered where we left off. Super boring! I was really excited about this class, but he made it terrible! He has an inferiority complex about teaching a gen-ed class and thinks that nobody will take his class seriously because it's gen-ed, but in reality no one cares because he's terrible.
He is really unorganized and its close to impossible to follow his train of thought in lecture. He's not extremely hard, his tests are online, but you will be searching through your book throughout the test because you probably won't learn anything in lecture. It was incredibly difficult to stay awake in class. Don't take him, waste of your time.
Class wasn't too bad, attendance is not mandatory and majority of the notes are on powerpoint which he puts on blackboard. Class is an easy B without trying
Awful class overall.....ward just blabbed about nonsense. All of our tests/quizzes were online...thank god, but they were still really difficult. Going to class was pretty useless...he's not an awful guy though if you give him a chance.
Professor Ward is a great guy, but he failed to cover necessary material in class and seemed fairly unorganized. All tests/quizzes were online which made them easier though.
He sucks. The test are open book, but you try to answer them word for word from the book and you still fail. He also is boring and jumps around with teaching.
he doesn't talk about anything in class that he puts on the tests. studying doesn't help. answers directly from the book don't guarantee good grades. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
Don't take it. The in-class tests are really difficult and require hours of studying. He says don't use the book but he never covers a majority of the material you're expected to know. Your notes are a joke- he repeats the same thing and doesn't explain other things. Doesn't drop grades, no curves, just difficult overall. Avoid!!!
If you pay attention, ask questions in class instead of sleeping, and take good notes there is no way you're going to get less than a B+ in this class. Willing to discuss dates/options for assignments/tests in class (we asked for tests to be put online). Lectures are really interesting and you can learn some life-changing stuff. Almost no homework.
if you're willing to put in a lot of work into a gen ed, then take this. otherwise, don't bother. he teaches other grel classes and he seemed to mix up what he taught, so the information he tells you may or may not be on the test. don't know how people called this an easy A! have to have really organized notes from class, powerpoints, and the book
This teacher is absurd. He did not post his office hours on his syallbus. When you email or ask him for help, he does not respond. The man is most difficult person I have ever meet. He set up an appointment and did not show or bother to email. The textbook does not help with the class at all. When he lectures, he writes random words on the board.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. seriously. just dont. worst experience of my life.
in all of his tests the average was a c. how does he think thats ok? NO CURVE. its a gen ed. takes attendance yet doesnt count it?? confused. i have never been in a class i hated this much EVER. so happy its over. seriously do not take this class unless you want to get a c in a gen ed if your lucky maybe a b.
I am being honest and not bias, but this is one of the worst professors I've ever encountered. Classes are unorganized, boring, useless. I did not learn one thing in the class. DOES NOT CURVE. He is the worse ABSOLUTE WORST, if you want to fail and learn nothing, be my guest
Notes are not very organized. the only way you will pass this class is if you actually go to class and pay ateention. All of your tests except 2 are on blackboard and they are open notes and open book, if you pay attention you should get a B in this class. However, the in-class testes are hard!
Good teacher, have to work for grade
The school would have been better off just placing the textbook in the front of the room at the beginning of class instead of paying to have Ward talk about nonsense in the front of the room that pertains to nothing. Class isn't too hard though he's just terrible
Do not take him. Just take this advice. In all honesty, not the best teacher. He's a nice guy, knows the information, but cannot teach. He rambles on with useless examples. Try another teacher.
Professor Ward is extremely awkward and disorganized with his lectures. He writes his thoughts randomly all over the board, making it hard to follow. He's smart, and nice - but not clear about what he wants. Tests are 90% of grade, which sucks. Online quizzes are easy. Going to class is extremely boring and pointless. I would recommend someone else!
Terrible. I had all the notes for his class and even got answers from the book, but still did not get above a C on the tests. Take someone else.
James Ward is not helpful whatsoever. His classes are boring and uninteresting. I could not sit through an hour and fifteen minutes of this man talking. Do NOT take Ward if you have any intentions on staying awake. He talks above everybody too. AWFUL!!
Mr. Ward is the worst professor. He is so unorganized. He doesn't ever do what he says he will. He loses your tests so you can't study for the final. His final was nothing like what we went over in class. DO NOT TAKE MR. WARD!
Class was easy in the beginning, however in class notes are no help and very unorganized. thought this would be an easy gen ed. however turned out to barely being able to get a B. First two blackboard tests were easy, the rest were hard and made no sense. Only take this class if you plan on attending and reading the textbook closely.
This class wasn't too bad. Yes, Ward can be a little unorganized and the final was hard! I went to Mr. Ward a few times in office hours and he went over my notes and told me what I needed to know for the test. Attend class, take notes, and see him before tests. You'll do fine.
Notes are highly unorganzied- just wrote random words on the board. Text book isn't utilized- most of his tests are lecture based, but I use it to improve my understanding. He doesn't cover the second half of the unit prior to the test (like the syllabus says he will), but rather just drags lectures out. Horribly unorganized and quirky.
Notes did not make sense at all. He doesn't really stay on track with the notes. Jumps from thought to thought and never really goes into depth about what you study. Overall, it was a tough class with him.
This class was the hardest I had for that semester. His notes are all over the place and he goes off of the topic while talking in class. There are 5 tests and he drops the lowest which helps. But the textbook doesn't help. If possible don't take this class.
The class was very interesting. as long as you pay attention it isn't hard to do well. He is also very entertaining!
horribly boring class. lectures are unorganized, notes on the board are all over the place. If you read the book you should be okay. Tests are not hard IF you know about the religion, which is hard to achieve through this class. If you take him, just read the book.
Weird guy but his class is pretty easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but the class notes are usually what's on the tests and he doesn't post them online. He also drops the lowest out of 5 test grades. Got by with a B easily.
This class is extremely easy if you pay attention in class and read the book the night before the test. He's a really nice guy and easily approachable. Attendance isn't mandatory and if you miss something, its usually in the book. I got an A easily.
I found this class to be extremely easy. He is really messy with his notes but if you just pay attention and take good notes it will be easy. 5 tests (easy) and he drops your lowest one. Also a really easy group presentation which helps your grade. Final was optional and online. Take Ward, he is also funny!
I would recommend Professor Ward for anyone looking to take GREL101. The guy is a little off the deep end (he does some weird facial expressions and is just goofy all around), but his tests are straightforward and he covers the information in the lectures. Next to zero out of class work (1 easy presentation) and not much stress here at all
I think this guy is hilarious. He pauses for dramatic effect and makes some weird faces (sort of a strange guy in general) but overall is a really competent GREL instructor. His notes are all over the place. A B is really manageable but you have to fight for an A. Five multiple choice tests, drops the lowest test grade and no homework. Easy GEN-ED.
Ward is a pretty good teacher. His lectures are a little out there, but he eventually gets to the point. There is no homework and not much reading either. Overall, pretty simple class
I absolutely loved this class. Professor Ward is a little quirky but his lectures are very, very interesting and there is no homework. I received A's on all the tests with very little studying. Other comments have said how his notes are all over the place but these people must have been bad note takers because he is not hard to follow at all.
He's a great professor! I LOVED his class. Tests are also fairly easy. No homework (besides pre-tests before learning about a new religion- NOT GRADED). No projects. Some online exams. Super nice, goofy and smart.
Professor Ward was a great professor to take, he really challenged his students to go beyond the typical range of thinking and made some intriguing arguments. The book is boring to read but his lectures are a little easier to understand, although he can be all over the place sometimes. His tests aren't bad and the last 3 were online
I took his class over the semester and he is VERY hard to understand. The notes he would write on the board are very unorganized...writes like 1 word descriptions or definitions. And he doesn't use a textbook. Hard to follow his class when you have notes you can't even read and don't even have a textbook
Professor Ward keeps things interesting. I knew nothing about religion before taking the course and I learned a lot from him. Online tests are a bit difficult and notes are unorganized. Overall an easy course if you attend class.
Ward is a interesting guy. His tests are relatively easy and there are 5 of them. One is dropped, two were online. His final is noncumulative. You need to go to class as he tests mostly on lectures. Buy the recommended book and it makes the class really easy as it sums up the historical conent. His required book is useless.
Professor ward can be eccentric at times, but he tries to tell you a story. Has a really cheap textbook for class, but you never uses it. He usually goes off track and falls behind on syllabus so some tests on time. 5 takes, counts 4 highest. Boring but pretty easy Gen Ed.
Ward is a nice and genuine guy but he is a poor teacher. His lectures are extremely boring and his notes consist of random words on the board. It's hard to make sense of it. Tests are really hard, with random material. Try to avoid this class if you can. Not an easy Gen-Ed, you'll probably pass but probably won't get an A if you're looking for that
I don't know what everyone is talking about in the previous comments, because my class we used the book a fair amount and it was necessary in order to do well on his tests. Philosophy isn't an exciting subject, but it is very interesting. It's not so much about "God, Meaning, and Morality," but the class was definitely worth taking.
He's super nice and pretty quirky. We had five tests, and he dropped the lowest one. No cumulative final. It's a ridiculously easy class if you show up and take notes, because his test questions mostly come from lecture. Love this guy!
He's such a nice guy, and he really knows what he's talking about. It's easy to pass if you take notes during class, but it's a very dry lecture. He tries to make it interesting, but honestly, if you take it- make sure you have some coffee.
Ward is a good guy, but this is definitely not the easiest gened. Taking notes is a challenge because he only writes randomly on the board and doesn't flow smoothly from one topic to another. Tests were difficult and were hard to study for. He also makes a lot of uncomfortable eye contact. Take a different class if possible, but its not awful
Professor Ward is a strange man who definitely knows what he's talking about, but he really struggles to convey it during lecture. His notes are random words all over the board and it's hard to make sense of. If you study whatever you can get from your notes and skim the readings the tests aren't bad, but make sure you get coffee before this class.
Ward is definitely a weird guy but he knows what he's talking about. His tests are composed mostly based on his lectures which are usually a bit scattered. Be ready to take comprehensive notes when you come to class and to hear some odd stories about his life
He is awesome!! Lectures can drag on a little bit but overall he tries to make things interesting and is very funny. Always tells cute little anecdotes about his experiences and life, Easy A. Must take.
Avoid at ALL costs. Not a nice guy, dread going to class at every day. way to close-minded to be a religion professor. Extremely scatter-brained and his "notes" will leave you clueless and frustrated. Unhelpful during office hours.
Super nice guy. Tests are free response, right out of lecture, so you need to take good notes. Only 3 homeworks out of the book, share with a friend. Same for the lab guide.
Mr. Ward is quite an interesting man. Always starts off class with an off topic current event. Lectures are long and boring. His notes on the board are ALWAYS scattered and don't connect a lot of the times. He can be so confusing. I suggest writing down specifically what he says because he only writes one or two words for each topic.
Mr. Ward is a great teacher. His lecture notes can be a little unclear, but if you study for the tests, they are manageable. You definitely have to work in this class, but he is a great professor, he means well, and he tells lots of stories. I would definitely take a class of his again.
Professor Ward is amazing! I absolutely loved his class and I would take another by him in a heartbeat. The class is interesting and engaging and the tests were really not that hard. Great professor!! As a side note, if you pay attention during lectures, don't buy the text book. If you pay attention, you won't need it.
Lectures are very random, they don't make any sense. Unless you already know a good bit about the topics, don't take this class. He doesn't explain anything in detail when you ask questions. Horrible about posting grades, took him almost 2 months to post my paper grade that I asked about for 4 different times. Don't waste money on the textbook!
He was confusing during the lectures, one time he literally told us the notes were a puzzle piece to be put together. He talked about his personal life a lot which was frustrating. He would reference the text book on the tests even though he never anywhere assigned a reading. Overall I was very disappointed.
The information is somewhat entertaining but not the way that it is taught. Most people end up dozing off by the end of class. The only grades are tests and one essay. The essay is super easy (a get to know you paper) and the lowest test grade is dropped. Don't waste your money on the text books. You have to go to class to understand the material
Love hate this class. Lectures are not helpful but there are only 5 tests and one gets dropped.
He's very confusing and rambles on in his lectures. He will mention topics and not even elaborate or talk about how they pertain to the test. Very unclear. The textbook doesn't help, most of the test material is based off of in class lectures. Material on tests are much more in-depth than what he goes over in class. Wouldn't recommend.
Ward is a good guy. He always forgets where he leaves off in class, and continually asks the class if he already taught something. says "am I making sense" about 40 times per class. He knows his stuff but seems to be distracted and not have a real class planned. Class is not hard if you pay attention and read.
-James Ward Tom Ford. -Lectures are always boring. -Favorite Phrase: "Does this make sense"
Let me just start by saying that Professor James Ward is the reason that I decided to declare a religion minor. He is a kind of boring lecturer and it didn't help that I had his class as an 8am but he is passionate and knowledgeable about what he is talking about and if you ever have any question or concerns, he is always more then happy to help.
Professor Ward is amazing! He knows his stuff about the religions we talked about. His tests are straight forward and come from lecture and the chapter reading.
The only words you'll ever remember "are my words making some sense". Try to avoid this class, his lectures make no sense and he jumps topics constantly.
He makes absolutely no sense in lecture. His notes are all over the place and he includes stuff in the tests that he does not even come close to mentioning in lecture. Only grades in the class are 5 tests and he drops the lowest. Avoid him! He says, "Are my words making any sense?" atleast 30 times every class
His lectures are all over the place but if you read the chapters they'll make a lot more sense. He don't count attendance and I missed a few classes but was always able to catch up by reading the chapter. A lot of his test are online, some in class, and they are the only grades. I recommend him if religion interest you this class will be a breeze.
Ward is literally the worst professor that I've ever had at JMU. His exams make no sense even though he claims that he tells us all of the information in class. He always tells his 8 am class all of the information and somehow forgets to tell his 9:05 class. If you want an A for a GenEd which is supposed to be easy, stay away. Just stay away.
Attendance is not mandatory or even needed; however, being at class would help with some of the test answers. You have 5 tests and he drops the lowest to find your grade.
He is a bright professor who is passionate about religion. Some of his analogies are weird to say but they will become commonplace after a few classes. One of the hardest things to do in this class is to have structured notes since his lectures are all over the place however their is no attendance policy and he only has four test.
Great professor who is really passionate about teaching. His analogies are very different, but do help make sense of the material. Five tests (all online) and drops the lowest grade. He really does make the material interesting and is always there for you if you have questions. Definitely take him if you have the opportunity.
I took this thinking it would be an easy A gened, but that was a big mistake. His lectures are long and all over the place, he usually ends up going off on a tangent for most of the class and not even explaining half the things he wrote on the board. The only upside was the fact that there were only 5 tests (only 4 counted) and all were online.
Avoid if you can. Lectures are VERY long and so unclear it is hard to follow. If you really keep up with the reading and go to class it's possible to get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory
AVOID THIS CLASS. There are 5 tests, four are online and the final is in class. The lectures are long and you can't understand anything he is saying so your notes make no sense after class.
Refuses to explain anything. Be it in lecture, for projects, or papers. Ward also doesn't follow the syllabus, but refers to it anyways. Lectures lead nowhere since he goes on tangents and tells personal stories repeatedly. Emailing after class to assign extra readings or assignments is to be expected nearly every class period.
Professor Ward is a nice guy, but his lectures are all over the place and kind of dull. That being said, I have passed all of the tests without reading the textbook and when he does give you an online test its open book and open notes. He drops the lowest test grade too and since they are the only grades you get its a perk! Noncumulative final!
Professor Ward is a really nice guy who genuinely cares about teaching religion; however, he is a really bad teacher. Every time I walk into class, he asks me what we talked about the class before. There's NO homework or projects, but your entire grade is based on 5 tests that seem super easy when you take them, but almost everyone gets Ds on them
Do not take. Very boring and lectures are really long and unnecessary. He writes so many unfinished words/sentences on the board and never talks about them. I sat in class and had no idea what he even said. You don't need to show up to class, just read the book and teach yourself. The only thing he grades is the five tests.
Such a great teacher for an easy class Professor Ward is obviously very knowledgeable in the subject matter but can sometimes make long and semi-confusing metaphors. There's no attendance policy but his tests are heavily based on his lectures so I'd recommend not skipping class. There's only 5 tests including the final and he drops the lowest grade
Class is not mandatory, but it's worth going. He's goofy and nerdy but he knows what he's talking about and he inspires you to really try in school. He understands his class is gen-ed that we don't really take seriously, but he makes it worth while.
this class is not hard just take good notes he just tends to go WAY off topic but he will work with you
Really poor lecturer, would absolutely not take this class if you can avoid it. Take 101!!! Will babble for hours about nothing and then the night before the test, email you saying theres a 70 page powerpoint with things to study available and non of it will be things you've discussed before.
Professor Ward makes his class impossible. This is my first review on anything just to help all of you out. I am an A and B student but I cant get above a D on any of his tests. No matter how hard you study, he will go off topic in his lectures and send you a 50 page power point on additional notes the night before the test. Would not recommend
Would not recommend!! He goes off on these random tangents every lecture, and never actually teaches you anything that's going to be on the test. Get ready to teach yourself everything from the textbook, the lectures are so irrelevant. Random reading quizzes though.
This class was 4 tests. Its so hard for a gen ed. Theres like no other points and I would never take it again.
I honestly loved this class. It's not the easiest GenEd, but it definitely wasn't hard in my opinion. Ward is funny and sarcastic, and tried to make the material relatable
AVOID. He rants all the time and two days and sometimes the night before an exam will send you a huge powerpoint to know about things never covered. Worst teacher I have ever taken. AVOID AVOID AVOID
If you need to take this class, TAKE WARD! He is an amazing professor and goes through ALL the notes needed for test on the board in class. 4 tests and a final. There are reading quizzes that he normally announces. your RQ score is out of 40 and he gives you 52 questions so there are like bonuses. Drops lowest test grade. He makes it interesting!!!
Honestly one of my favorite professor here at JMU. Ward presents his lectures almost in a story telling like style and really paints a picture of the material you need to know. You definitely should attend class and be sure to take notes on what he says, not just what he outs on the board. More than willing to work with you if you need help!
I absolutely loved Dr. Ward. You primarily receive your grade through 4 multiple choice tests, with an optional final. There also are in-class reading quizzes, but he sends out an email specifying what you should read, so the quizzes are no surprise. If you do the readings and attend class, you shouldn't have any problems.
He's a great guy would highly recommend taking. He is a really understanding teacher if he sees that you show up for class.
Professor Ward is really really great. 5 tests throughout the semester, each on 1 religion you are studying. (Some are online!!) He knows what he is talking about and makes it easy to understand. Don't let tests or few small papers scare you!! I loved this class and he is one of the better REL101 Professors.
Ward is a good professor. Sometimes it is hard to pay attention in class but if you stay on task and take notes you will do fine. Drops lowest test score, gives online tests and paper options for tests as well. Definitely lecture heavy but the class was super easy, interesting, and fun to go to!
His notes are trash so make sure you listen in class because his powerpoints don't match up for ANY exams. Pop up quizzes, his grading his horrible and doesn't add up. He makes you do assignments that don't count towards your final grade. Don't waste your time buying the book. only used for the pop quizzes which doesn't even count towards grade
extremely nice and friendly but very very lecture heavy and often boring. no textbook but the reading he posts is very helpful. tests are way harder than the lectures prepare you for. attendance is taken but no deductions in any way if you miss class
Prof Ward isn't the worst, but he's definitely not the best. This is his first semester that he isn't using a textbook and I don't like it. He will wait until the day before the exam to post lecture slides that he didn't even do and it ends up being like half the exam. The good thing is that he drops your lowest exam grade!!
Ward is a pretty good professor. His lectures are long and aren't the most interesting, but he likes to tell stories which are sometimes interesting. His tests are fairly easy. He gives four tests and then there's one exam. He drops your lowest test grade which is pretty nice. If you show up to class, pay attention, and take notes, it's an easy A.
Professor Ward is a really great person but terrible professor. There are no readings and he barely posts any notes so you have to be extremely attentive in class. Hes not familiar with powerpoint so they are poorly laid out and confusing. The class before the test, he's flipping through every one trying to figure out what he hasn't taught us yet
you have 5 exams but he drops one at the end. class isnt mandatory. he posts the slides kinda late, but they are super helpful for the exams. he was a super caring guy that actually seemed to care about his students. no mandatory textbook! reach what he posts and you will be ok, and he will personally help you make a study guide if u reach out!!!!!
Stear away from this for a Gen Ed. Professor Ward is a funny and kind man, but the whole class is based on five tests for your grade. The tests are difficult especially if you are not a good test taker. The online tests are even more difficult even though they are "open note". Nice guy, but find an easier professor for a Gen Ed.
He's a fun guy, lectures can be dry but he genuinely cares about his students and the class. 5 tests, lowest one gets dropped, including the final exam. Doesn't post lectures online so show up to class.
Dr. Ward is a wonderful human being. The roughest part of the class is that it's mainly based on tests so try your best to attend and study hard. His lectures are funny and personal, and even though they can be hard to follow at times, I always thought they lined up perfectly with the tests.
Ward really knew what he was talking about and seemed to enjoy teaching. He got off topic a little bit but would end up tying it somehow to the lecture to get back into it. He makes a lot of jokes and likes to talk to his students. He posts the chapters you need on canvas so no need to get the book.
He is a very nice guy and I would say a good professor but he can go on tangents and get off topic easily. His tests are much harder then what he teaches in class. If you don't study you won't pass because he is very test heavy. There were only 5 tests and 2 papers that were graded.
his class is kind of difficult to stay focused but he moved tests back and online often. you have to study for tests and you have to out some work into it if you want an A. I used my laptop to take notes and I often did other class work in his class. he doesn't count attendance and there is no textbook. He drops your lowest test grade.
Professor Ward is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He always is extremely accessible outside of class and in office hours, and while his lectures arent always extremely clear, he posts slides to the lectures which you can study for exams. All in all, he made the class a pleasant environment, and one which I didn't dread going to.
This class was fine. Lectures are boring and he gives reading quizzes but they're easy. I studied so hard for this class and still got B's on tests because they are so detailed and it takes so long to read each question. I would take a diff professor if you can. Definitely go to office hours and he will help you.
I really enjoyed this class with Professor Ward. He cares and is passionate about the content. Tests arent the easiest - but they are not too hard to do well on. I think people are salty because they actually need to show up to class to do well and wont be able to learn everything from the PowerPoints. I would recommend him to anyone.
By far one of my favorite professors! His class was a little difficult, but he is very passionate about religions. His lectures were sometimes not very clear, but his PowerPoints helped to stay on track. He is such a sweet man, and I definitely recommend him. He doesn't give reading quizzes. As long as you study, you'll do well on the exams!
The class definitely is one that you have to think about, but he seems to understand that so he gives a lot of opinion based mini-assignments in canvas which eases your grade. He also drops the lowest test. It's not a class that is an easy A but its not made unreasonably difficult like some.
I had chose religion for a gened, but the level of difficulty made it seem like I was majoring in it. His PowerPoints are super vague, you have to write down what he says, but you never know when it's important or not. he also talks super fast. Also with the class being online, you couldn't even ask him to repeat himself. I had to drop his class.
Honestly this class was kinda difficult but all tests and quizzes were open note. He is really nice and funny but he can ramble on. He is slightly unorganized but will answer any questions you have. Uses the tophat platform so only he has the ability to use the camera or mic students use chat box. He posts all his powerpoints on canvas too.
Professor Ward is scrambled professor who doesnt use Canvas for his grades but still puts your grade up on canvas which will be higher than youre actually grade he uses top hat which you must pay for and his lectures are painfully boring with him just rambling He also will say that attendance isnt graded but participation is so attendance counts
Ward is a very cool person, and is passionate about what he teaches, but sometimes the tests are much more specific than what he talks about/posts in the lectures, so be very aware of that.
He's a very nice man and knows the topics, but the class is a complete drag. Have to pay to attend class, the lectures are super boring and he gets off topic often, only graded on basically 5-6 tests which were difficult. Some tips: take notes while he's talking, asks questions, and try your hardest not to zone out (nearly impossible)
Pretty hard class for a GenEd. Would avoid it even though it is an online class. Doesn't help much and sometimes info on tests was out of nowhere.
Ward was probably the hardest gen ed I have ever taken. Im in a difficult major and I do more work for him then I do for my actual major classes. His tests are almost impossible and he is quite mean! Do not take him!!!
Professor Ward is the worst professor I have had at JMU. Save your time and frustration take another professor for religion.
Doesn't know what he's doing. He rambles on during lectures and within the class you are graded by very few assignments.
Good guy, very dry, boring class but pretty easy. Show up and you'll do well.
He is very passionate about his study and it's honestly very interesting. However, lectures are a little scattered and hard to follow but he really tries to make you understand. He is quite funny as well. Tests are difficult though, make sure you pay attention to the lectures- even the tiniest details because they will be on the test.
By far one of, if not the worst teachers at JMU. Completely nonsensical the way he has his tests written, with answer choices being too vague, and covering material NOT EVEN TAUGHT in class. If you're delusional and want to make your time at JMU god awful, take this professor, but otherwise- LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. Terrible!!!!!!
I think Dr. Ward is a caring professor and is passionate about the material, however, his lectures are very sporadic and often very disorganized. Tests are also very difficult. You really need to attend class, but even if you do, this is still a very tough class.
Professor Ward's lectures can be a bit scattered, but he's passionate about the subject. Tests are challenging, so stay engaged and utilize tools like unstuckstudy ai to supplement your preparation. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the effort.
horrible teacher, nice guy tho
Please JMU why do you hire professors like this. Unless you want to develop stress hives please avoid.
He seems laid back and nice but I have not been able to get a decent grade on any exam even if I study. Stuff on the exam isn't covered in class or in any readings, his lectures are not very organized, and since tests are the only basically the only assignments, if you don't do well on those you won't do well in the class.
You absolutely must show up to class to do well. Textbook alone will get you a 70 tops on exams. He moves kinda fast and is a little sporadic. Tests can be confusing, he def tries to throw you off a little. Overall a nice guy and is passionate about the content. Give full attention in lecture and take notes and you'll be fine.
