very easy class, his opinion is the only opinion. Teaches open mindedness but debating him is out of the question, he's always right.

I didn't find him helpful at all, he always directed me to the GA. His lectures are extremely biased, and everyone has to share HIS opinion.

I really liked this course, however, the professor has a bias that taints the content. There are so many opportunities to go beyond his 'progressive' stances and offer alternative media beyond his list of favorites. Makes Micheal Moore seem conservative.

Easy class, all you have to do is think like him (radicle left wing mike moore enthusist) and your going to pass. However everyting he teaches you is pure conspericy theory...easy buddy, the world isn't that bad. Kind or a waste of time...take it if your going to attend class.

James Winter is the most biased, unhelpful biggot I have ever encountered. He will not try the slightest to help you, even if you're on his good side. His exams are extremely left-wing written, and will not accept your viewpoints. If you're thinking about taking this class, wait for another prof to teach it. Winter is hard, depressing,and unhelpful

Very ambigious about what he wanted, seemed the class was merely to further his interests in presuring people about Haiti. The movies that we watched were very one sideded - wouldn't ecommend this class... or any of his.

I agree wholeheartedly with the arrogant comments previously made. The course info is very interesting, and he is knowledgable, but i'm not sold with him. You'll notice the arrogance even moreso when you try to have an adult conversation with him...you leave really feeling YOU are the student and HE is the teacher...yikes, no understanding at all.

He doesn't actually do his job. He rarely answers student emails, even when they are emergency related. His syllabus is practically a novel. He failed to make it clear which readings were required and which were suggested until about halfway through the course. Overall a terrible professor to deal with.

Amazing that he has tenure. Dr. Winter does not have a well thought out position to counter different or opposite points of view and reacts to legitimate questions or requests for clairification with arrogance to hide his ignorance and lazy scholarship. The epic syllabus is in response to years of being called to task by students.

Although he get's a lot of heat from students,this man knows what he's talking about.Trust me,he's got a lot of knowledge on how the media works.With that said,it's a class teaching his (left wing/liberal)ideas.I find it ironic that in a true democratic envrionemnt,the students would vote for another proffesor to teach this course. Tons of MC test.

Umm...the ideas that he is presenting in this class are very interesting. And they make alot of sense. But i just don't like the way in which the ideas are presented. It is much to intimitating, and confusing. Just be sure to read the texts! He uses them alot on the exams, oh also show up to the movies b/c he uses those a lot too!!

If you attend class, and read the textbooks then you should get an A or B...Ignore what he says whether you agrees with it or not..Just answer what his point of view is on the test, ace it, and get out laughing.

One of the worst profs I've ever had. Yes, he makes interesting points, but is completely against other's opinions and shoots them down right away. The man can never be wrong. Also, only uses his own texts that cannot be purchased at the bookstore.

He is opinionated and arrogant. You have to use the textbooks he wrote as class texts and no opinion is correct but his own. Tests are easy if you know to pick the answer that shouldn't be correct. Don't disagree with him or an argument ensues. Class is always entertaining though for that reason.

Very disorganized. His midterms were largely based on his opinions. Interrupts students, and argues if he disagrees. Not professional, in the very least. His lectures are hard to sit through. Save yourself the headache. Don't take this class.

Preface on the final read "This class is not about regurgitating the teacher's opinion...". Fully a third of the questions than began with "In the professor's opinion..." That's all you need to know. He's a windbag, plain and simple. Just choose whatever answer most bashes the media or the mainstream in general and you're good to go.

Surprised the class and his ego didn't clash as much as I thought it would at the beginning of the course. Seemed only to be teaching to spite the dean. Does not allow any computer or cell phone use so if that is your thing stay away.

Two rules of thumb - know his opinion and don't stray from it (even if you disagree), and never use a cell or laptop in class! He makes his opinion known and, if you don't agree, you're wrong. Tests even have "in professors opinion..." as questions. Has called out students for cell phone use, and thrown them out. Knows his stuff, but, wow...

Stupidest class ever. Don't take unless you must. Makes me question teaching. This class is so bad, all I can do is laugh to keep from throwing things at the prof.

So condicending when students participate in class. Says the class is to build an understanding and opinion for film and be able to analysis for a full appreciation. But everything is based on his opinion on the film (usually feminist). His exams are all multiple choice but usually "what is the most right" but all answers in the question are right

if you know someone who took the class before you, you dont even have to show up. Just watch the movies at home and read their notes on his lecture. exams are multiple choice and all the questions are on blackboard. all you have to do is google the answers and memorize.

Nice guy, but not so great as an instructor. Sounded a bit full of himself. Thinks that he knows everything, which is not true. I expected more from this class, but sadly paid for 6 credits and did not learn any valuable/new information.

Mediocre professor. Nice enough to talk to but class in not at all engaging. Very obvious observations that could be made from the films but if it wasn't listed in the textbook, he doesn't see the connection. No discussion, just purely regurgitated info from the text. Read the keywords, watch the movies, have a brain and you're sure to pass.
