He is an awesome teacher. I have taken his class twice and im going to take it as long as he teaches the classess nee very helpful, testes are easy has homewor but you turn it in on the day of the test, has quizes everyday of class
Mr. Wolfle is an fantastic teacher. I gave a 5 rating for easy, not because he didn't challenge us, but because the way he teaches, makes Algebra very understandble...even to the people who typically are not very good at Math. Awesome class!!

I'm not sure what these other people are talking about but his tests were super hard and went way beyond what he taught in class. Im a little bitter due to the fact that i somehow got a D and the girl next to me got an A while be both basically got the same grades through out the semester. I emailed him but got nothing.
Test were based on material taught in class, very helpful and explained material very clearly.
Applied Calculus- Very nice teacher, you're not another face in the classroom. Ask him if you don't understand. Practice your homework. If I just worked a little harder, I probably would have gotten an A.
His test/quizzes go beyond what is taught in class. You cannot teach Mathematics through powerpoint which is what he does. You need to work problems and do examples to learn math. Projects are busy work. Nice guy but not a great teacher.
I loved his class! He gave the material in the way for everybody to understand. Very helpful and patient professor, don't be afraid to ask any questions if you don't understand, he's always willing to help. Do your homework for every class, then you'll hav no problems with the test. I'm looking forward taking the statistics with him!
Dr. Wolfle is an amazing teacher. That is not to say he is an easy teacher. He gives many quizzes and his finals are always cumulative. If you come to class, do the work, and ask questions when you don't understand, you will do well in his classes. He is extremely approachable and patient as well.
Hes a nice guy but a word of warning,he gives 3-4 quizzes a week on material he literally just taught. These quizzes are on blackboard and one of the quizzes worth the most points is only available to take on Fri sat or sun. If you work full time over the weekend your not gonna survive in this class. Its unfair to working students.
Dr. Wolfle was great. He was always available for help, especially before tests. Even if he was not in his office, he ALWAYS responded to emails promptly, and was willing to work through individual problems over email. His grading was quick and descriptive so that you could see your mistakes. Expected to hate stat, ended up enjoying it. =)
Dr. Wolfle is great at what he does. Class expectations are clear, he returns assignments quickly, and has extensive office hours. If you do what he suggests and practice the material you can get a good grade and learn a lot.
I highly recommend the professor, he's so friendly and seems very eager to engage his students to learn. He was excited to help out his class.
The teaching of Dr. Wolfe is very clear, interesting, colorful, and consistent. He always makes sure that you have a clear understanding. Taking his class was the best decision I had made in my college career. This is a teacher who makes you to do everything he wants. I lovit! I would highly recommend him. TAKE HIS CLASS! You will learn a lot.
Great professor and helped me alot. He is a good teacher but not an easy one. He makes you work for your grade so its important to attend every class, do the homework and ask questions.
Great teacher,ery informative, he wants to see you pass the class but won't give it to you. Really nice and easy to get along with. My only advice, take longer than an hour long class. Half the time you go over homework, the other half you learn new material. But, you only get through about 3 problems. then you have to learn the rest on your own.
I notice on here that the people who gave Dr. Wolfle the highest ratings were either taking lower level math courses or taking the class on campus. He was the worst on line teacher! Took weeks to answer questions about his confusing assignments. Basically had to teach myself. DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE!!

Hands down the HARDEST and best mathematics professors at J Sarge. I took Stat at VCU twice and averaged a D. didn't know S. I ended up getting a A, and I learned so much. Be ready to use textbook and actually do the homework and PROJECTS. i CAN USE STATS AT WORK AND EVERYDAY LIFE BECAUSE of his great teaching. He encouraged to ask questions.
Wonderful teacher ! You must attend class for the lecture and DO the homeworks at the end of the chapters they really help and go to him for clarification. He is very fair and always willing to help. Material is hard but duh its Stats. And yes you will have to do the work but this is college suck it up and take him he is great and helpful!
READ AND HEED OR SUFFER! I made a HUGE MISTAKE with this instructor. I advise you to take someone else unless you're a math or physical sciences major-class requires 25+ hours weekly. Definitely DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. Graded weekly HW is highly conceptual rather than computational. Three graded student projects do little to reinforce the material.
I had to work very hard for my grade. Class was online and the professor was very involved, organized and present with coursework. He had lectures, weekly homework and three very hard projects. He was available for help and very responsive. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will learn a lot and get a good grade.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. He is a horrible online instructor and doesn't respond to email. The only way to get a response from him is through the FAQ discussion board. Weekly tests are disguised as homework. He is a very picky grader when he gets around to grading assignments. Three class projects DON'T REINFORCE THE MATERIAL. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
Has classwork and quizzes every class period. Attendance is required. He replies to emails within 2 days. Better in person rather than online. He's very nice and charismatic. Also help's you understand and doesn't give your brain an overload.
I took statistics in spring 2014. Our classes were mon/wed/fri from 8-8:50. The class covers a lot and you have to read and do the homework for the section you learnt by the next class. The homework from the book is not graded but definitely prepares you for the test. If you're looking for an easy A this isn't it. He's very picky at grading.
I took this class online. It was not an easy class. We had three projects. His tests are accumulative. No notes allowed. Discussion posts aren't hard but he is picky about what you post and respond to. He is very helpful when you have questions. This was the first math class I had to study for. Study guides did not help on tests.
Professor Wolfe I believe is one of the most helpful math professor I've taken. I've been in several MTE classes. I would most definitely recommend him for any math.
This professor is nice enough, but definitely is a stickler for grading. Sometimes it seems he grades something hastily without fully reading the work. If you review tests or homework with him, he does this quickly and makes you feel rushed to leave. Definitely be prepared to read the textbook & don't count on lectures to give more info.
I took class online. He did not reply to my e-mails often. I had to go in person to get answers to my questions. Class was not easy.IT seemed like he had own standards that no one else knew about for course. He explained some things to me in person, I did them like he said then he graded me hard for doing as told .I would not recommend him.
tries to make class end as fast as possible by showing the easiest examples. Then gives tests on harder material and times them. No extra credit and a stickler for grading. Only like two people got b or above out of thirty students.

There's no word to describe him, He's the smartest professor I've ever seen. Funny, nice and helpful. Ask him hundred questions and he will answer them all. His tests are straightforward. Taking this guy online is a huge MISTAKE! Take my advice and take someone else or you're in for a rough time. He is supposed to be OK for lecture, but my online experience with him was not good. No way will I take a lecture class with him!

Spring '15 -Sarge closed for three days to weather. The first day it closed, a test was scheduled. he gave us two more days to take it, and we must go to testing lab. School was closed all three days. He extended it one more day, but did not notify the class until 10. a.m, on a day we did not have class. Over 15 zeros given with no retake offered.

he expects a lot, don't expect tests that regurgitate the same information; he makes you think. He gives real life examples and is always willing to help whether in class or during office hours. You have to earn your grade though.
Dr. Wolfle does his best to help if you ask. He is very enthusiastic about the subject and makes learning it easier. There was no homework which is a plus (downside for me is I needed homework for reinforcement on the different topics). You must attend class or you won't understand the material. Tests weren't too bad assuming you attended class
I took him before for MTE 7 - 9 and I did really well, so I decided to take his pre-calc class. He really cares about how his students do and he knows how to teach math unlike some people... Take this professor if you suck at math, he'll help you understand it!
I am currently taking Wofles MTH 170 and hes an awesome teacher. He does have quizes every other class to make sure you read the material but its like two question quizes so simple and the tests are basically what you go over in class. Grades are quizes, tests and group work(Very few) to help your grade. Def Recommend. I predict I will get a B.

I would definitely recommend taking statistics from Dr. Wolfle. The in-class group assignments he requires instead of homework from the textbook are fun and interesting.
I really enjoyed MTH170 with Dr. Wolfle. The pace was reasonable, and his teaching made the concepts in the textbook much easier to understand. He started the class with small group work tasks, but transitioned to a lecture format by the end of the semester. He will answer anyone's questions, he is kind, and approachable. I am taking 240 with him.
He goes TOO fast. Coming from somebody who has always been great at math, I've never strugged so much. When you ask a question, he won't really answer it. Also, he likes to "poof" his work, meaning he doesn't show the work he just skips to the answer. He'll teach about 2-3 units within a chapter a class then he will pop quiz you. Very stressful.
Dr. Wolfle is a great guy and a good teacher. While he isn't the best, he helped me to understand the material. He made good connections between calculus and the real world. Quizzes weekly and his tests are extremely hard. If you do the homework, ask questions, and study hard, the class will be easier than you think.
He is very fast paced and loves to pop quiz. He also doesn't show his work fully; he loves to poof his work. He is a tough grader. You will basically self teach yourself. I've always exceeded in math, I guess its the way he teaches. Some people do okay with him, he goes way to fast for me and the pop quizzes lower my grade so find someone else!!
Dr Wofle's online stats class takes a lot of work. There are several projects plus weekly homework. None of it is difficult, per se, but there is a lot of work. The tests are reasonable and inline with homework.
When he goes over class material it seems all simple and easy but when he hands those 1 question pop quizzes and tests.. Those are really hard. I recommend y'all looking for a different professor. I used to always get A's and B's for math and I got an F for his class.
I took him online for statistics and as he wil tell you, if you can take it in person. He is really great his presentations did help. I just suck at math so I needed a tutor. Do not give up try every assignment and I mean really try and review as much as you can for the test. I wish I could have taken this class in person.
Lecture heavy. The tests are 50% of the final grade, and they are hard! Even if you complete all the homework and come to every single class, but you fail the tests, you fail the class.
Homework every night, but it's totally necessary if you want to learn the material. He does use the textbook, which kinda sucks $$. He's a bit awkward in a charming way. He's great at teaching math in the simplest terms; he could teach calculus to a 5 year old. Participating in class will help him get into a flow. I will be taking him again, fosho.
I loved this class despite not having taken math in almost a decade and am taking another with him even though I dont need it for my degree. He is an exceptional professor. Always happy to answer questions and does so with clarity. The homework is so helpful and if you do it (and rework wrong answers) you will pass. Math can be fun!
He is a nice man, but a terrible professor. I am a straight A student, and I couldn't pass his class. It is so hard because his notes are easier than his tests. He will put the hardest things on his test, so he can ensure you fully understand the concept. When you speak to him about your grades he is will not give helpful tips.
No spoon feeding. Homework isn't required but helps prep you for class work and direct questions. His tests are fair; final is cumulative. Ask for him to provide test review questions for better prep. He was very available for anything I was stuck on. Encourages networking to solve class work. You will work for your grade. I would take him again.
Professor Wolfle is knowledgeable about his subject, but I would not take his online class. Any math online is difficult, but the majority of the teaching for this class was reading the textbook, with some supplemental power points. Also a nitpicky grader. That said, if online is the only option, work hard and you will be fine.
Professor Wolfle offered excellent resources for notes, which proved to be an excellent part of taking a math course online. Most of the work was done on StatLab and proved to be very intense if you got behind. Even if you get 90s on all homework assignments, the midterm and final on stat-lab were very difficult.
There were discussion boards every week for the online class as well as homework and a quiz. You were allowed to do the homework as many times as you like and the quiz twice and the better grade was kept. He gives you every opportunity to get an A if you are trying
James Wolfle is a great professor. His lectures are thorough and he explains the topic until you can do it in your sleep. He cares about how you are doing in the class and will help you at any time! He does give a lot of homework, but it helps you in the end. His tests can be hard if you don't study. Complete his reviews and it will help wonders!!

The prof will not answer your emails or maybe will several weeks after an assignment . He adds new assignments due by midnight the day of being assigned regularly with little regard for students other course work. Is very hard to reach outside of office hours and grades on homework correctness and you won't know till he grades it a month late.
Don't take his class, if you want to take his class, I wish you a luck..
This teacher has very odd grading. He is very meticulous on how he wants his students to do their work but doesn’t specify how he wants the work done until commenting on it when the assignment is already submitted and graded. It is very difficult to get a good grade in this course because of it and when you try to email him, he doesn’t respond.
Professor created a very difficult online work environment during the pandemic. Would take a while to respond to e mails and only had a one hour block during the week set up for zoom meetings. his homework assignments didn't pertain to what was being read in the chapter and his wording was weird at times which made it hard to complete assignments.

Worst online experience ever. Seems like a nice person, but expects WAY too much on tests and the questions can be deeply confusing. You are required to take a picture with your phone of your work and upload them DURING THE TESTS (which includes drawing several graphs, transferring the pics, etc) and not near enough time is given to do all of that.
Horrible teacher. The entire class consisted of "Read chapter X in the textbook" then gives homework on the chapter. There's no teaching, no structure, no clarity what I need to know. Dr. Wolfle is one of the best mathematics instructors I have ever had. He has a knack for conveying complex topics in a way that is concise, clear, and easy to understand. He has consistently demonstrated a very thorough understanding of the material he teaches and has shown himself to be a fair and timely grader.

I struggle in any math class, this class was difficult due to way of teaching. He explained once and expected you to be able to apply it right away and would not explain further. I ended up really struggling and asked how I could improve, he proceeded to tell me that "I was only a liberal arts major and this is something I wouldn't get."
This professor accuses you of using AI if your answers don't match his style. He tells you to use certain resources, then penalizes you for it. When asked for help, he's dismissive and says to use AI. He doesn't teach, just expects the book to do it, despite tests being completely different. Rarely replies to emails on time. Don't take this class!!

He is a very harsh grader. He took off a lot of points for minor mistakes. The class average for almost every assignment was around 50%. It shows that it's a mistake on his part either in grading or in teaching because of the amount of people not doing well in his class.
