Excellent teacher. Do everything you are told. Study. You will get an A.
Dr. Worden is fantastic and very helpful. I have tried chemistry before and didn't understand it at all. Now I have an A in the class and I am understanding everything! He also passes out worksheets and goes over problems in class if you don't understand he will gladly help you. Thank you Dr.Worden I am ready for my next chem class thanks to you!
I thought Dr. Worden was a good professor. I did great on everything, he offers a ton of extra credit, and a lot of extra practice problems, which if you do you will do great. He didnt use the text book at all, so dont bother buying it.
Dr. Worden is an excellent teacher. He offers some extra credit on exams, gives you partial credit on exams for correct work, & offers extra credit through Angel (time consuming but worth it). He provides printable powerpoints he goes through in class, gives us practice problems with answer keys, and goes through problems in class. AWESOME prof!
Hard! Knows his chemistry but the class is hard. If you are good at chm or have the time to put into it and dont work go for it. If not forget it.
Only took him for lab. Everything is straight forward. Answers any and all questions. Hes a little quick at explanations but if you don't understand a problem, he will go through and explain everything step by step. Just do the work and get an A. Great professor!
Good professor, seems to know the subject very well. Explained concepts well and clarified when needed. He provided extra credit for each chapter that was helpful in learning the material. I think I learned slightly more than I needed to in this class, I would take classes from him again.
Took him for Intro Chem very easy going gives a good review similar to test and really spoon feeds you during the course loved it so much,I took Chem 1 with him too not as easy he does make you work more for it in Gen Chem but he is always willing to help and donates his time in the tutoring lab to help students further along easy going.
Dr. Worden is a wonderful Chem professor. I took his class after being out of the academic environment for many years, and was apprehensive about returning to school, (especially for Chem.) But his class was very enjoyable and I had fun learning Chem. He is always willing to answer questions via email. I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Dr. Worden isn't easy one bit! I took his class after being out of the academic environment for many years, & found it simply impossible to understand, (especially for Chem.) He says he is always willing to answer questions via email, and although is quick to get back to you- is still not clear. I would never recommend taking him to anyone
He has no idea what he's suppose to be doing in front of the class room
Expects to master material thru only a few examples. Does not explain clearly. Very tough, difficult and frustrating. Knows his stuff but does not convey it well (not in a way someone can learnunderstand). To do well you should already understand it all because he will just review things not teach it.
Can't say enough about how good of a guy Professor Worden is. He is a very thorough instructor and does everything he can to best prepare you for the labs and class tests. He helps walk his students through labs by putting in an extra effort to teach while they try to learn. He also is very open to any questions about the course material. 1010
Professor Worden is awesome! Took him for Chem 1025 (Intro to chem) got an A His test are tough, but he gives reviews, half credit, extra credit, quizzes that are worth more credit etc. Great guy, wants you to succeed. Go to lecture!!!
Great professor. Super duper smart guy. Test are tough, but he did lecture on it! Go to class, you will pass. He offers extra credit, do it! Got an A. Thanks Dr Worden!!!!
Great guy. Smart, helpful, caring. Show up to class, chem is tough. He is one of those guys that wants you to succeed. Gives extra credit.
I am an "older" student and had to take this class as a pre-req for PA school. Dreaded it. I no longer hate chemistry and actually enjoyed learning from Dr. Worden. He really takes a personal interest in you and your success. But it's no cake walk. I attended every class and supplemented with online videos and earned an A.
Fantastic. Had him for 2045 and went from scared to death of chem to really enjoying it. He cares about each student and hisher success. Such a sweetheart. But I studied hard and did all the extra credit. Anyone who whines about Dr. Worden is just a baby who didn't put the effort in. I have 5 kids so I know! U can't blame Dr. Worden.
Great lab professor! He breaks everything down by writing each step of each lab on the boards in class, including formulas. He's there to help with anything and cares about your progress, even if you're not in his lecture. The practical is CAKE if you have your notebook, so keep up with it! Thanks Dr. Worden.
Starting out in Chemistry I was extremely nervous, but I have grown to absolutely love it! Worden is an amazing professor, very clear and helpful about everything, gives extra credit. Study, take advantage of the extra credit opportunities and you will do just fine. Did I say amazing professor?
I am not a fan of chemistry but Dr Worden made this subject very easy to grasp (granted you put in some study time outside of class). He is so nice and helpful, just a good person. Always gives extra credit and truly gives off that he cares about you as an individual. You'd be hard pressed to find a better chemistry professor.
Dr. Worden is awesome! I took him for Intro with lab and Chem 1 with lab. He gives very clear examples! Make sure you do the worksheets and study!! Chemistry is not super easy but he gives you everything you need to pass. I highly recommend him to anyone.
Great professor for chem 1. He had an ample amount of resources for you to use in order to prepare for his tests. Personally, I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a professor that doesn't just hand you the A. There are 4 tests, a little bit of extra credit/homework, and the lowest test can be replaced by the final (final is easy).
Awesome professor. Chem is not easy for me but after this class I feel a lot better about it! He gives worksheets and goes over them for each section. Tests aren't tough just study the examples from the board. Basically just review notes and the worksheets and you will do fine on the test. Mostly focus on the concepts.
I have taken so many chemistry classes because of my major and he is honestly the best chem teacher I have ever taken. I wish I knew about him since intro. He teaches everything in a simple understandable way. Hes 100x better than Musgraves. Do the homework which is like 20 Qs for every 2-3weeks and you will not only pass but understand it
Don't bother with the textbook, nothing in it is useful on the tests. He's got his own style that he applies in his lectures so coming to class is mandatory. Extra credit for each test that can be found in the LSC. He says the Final will replace your worst test grade, but I don't think mine was updated. His exams are never multiple choice either.
One of favorite professors of all time. Gives extra credit opportunities, which I recommend you do. If you don't like to study or engage in the material, you will not pass. He is very clear during his lectures and is very lenient on test grades. Put the work in and this class should be an easy A.
Chem 2 can be rather difficult at times with the complexity of the material (math heavy), but he does a good job of explaining it. Word of advice - if you aren't a strong math student, then take a light load with this course. No midterm, final was somewhat difficult, but fair (covers chem 1 and 2), 4 tests, decent amount of xtra credit, easy hw.
Professor Worden is an amazing chemistry teacher. He was very helpful and clear of the lessons. He posted practice/old tests and review worksheets. In class, he prints them out for you. I also had him for lab and was extremely helpful. I really enjoyed his class and you can tell he really loves teaching chemistry. Definitely consider him for chem
Professor Worden is one of my favorite professors at SPC. He answers your questions when they are asked or he stays after class with you to assist you in any way possible.
So much busy work in this class it isn't even funny. I spent everyday in the tutoring center just to get homework done. Test are hard each question can be anywhere from 1-20pts. By the first test your expected to know all the periodic table. The Prof. Will you tell you, you won't have to know all the elements but the come test day any element goes.
Worden is thorough and clear with his practice problems and is always eager to help his students. He makes a difficult subject much less daunting. Good teacher
I'm in the middle of his class currently and he sets you up to succeed. I went into this course thinking it was a foreign language and reminded him of that all the time, but he provides the resources to allow students to succeed. He's very intelligent, my husband has taken him through Chem 2, and I will definitely be doing the same! Take him!
Took Dr. Worden for intro and chem 1 and both labs. He's a great teacher, he wants you to learn and takes the time to make sure you understand. Do the homework, extra credit, and study for tests and you'll pass the class. It's difficult but its chem it's supposed to be. Lowest pre & postlab are dropped, and replaces final with lowest test grade.
Professor Worden's lectures are content rich and he is energetic about getting all of the info to you. Chem isn't an easy subject but he provides an ample amount of practice worksheets and constantly goes over examples in class. I felt like he always prepared us well for tests and homework.
Dr. Worden is one of the best instructors out there! He is always willing to help and cares so much about his students! Make sure you study for the exams and do the homework and you will pass!
I only took his lab because of the format of spc online lecture and in-class lab. I'm not even mad because he is really straightforward and makes the material really easy to consume. I wish I could have taken him for lecture if I known he was that good. It was so easy to get high marks in this class because it is low level, but also he is generous.
Always interacting with students during lecture and lab, thus giving students plenty of opportunities to ask questions. If you can do and understand the homework modules tests should not be too difficult. Chemistry is obviously not the easiest for most, but if you put in the effort there should be no reason you should fail.
Dr. Warden is a great professor. He is very helpful, he knows his stuff. There are many extra credit assignments. Like any class you have to take your time and dedication. Must study to succeed. Your allowed to go to the tutor lab and get a hold of old test. To be used as study guide. I carried an A all semester, so could you.
Had for intro and chem 1. Hes ok. Very smart but doesnt translate to teaching sometimes. Be prepared to get tutoring. Would not take again. Material does not always match what is taught.
Dr. Worden really wants students to learn. He takes time to help before or after class, just ask. He is good at reading his students during lectures. You still need to read the chapters. Extra credit, practice tests, chapter reviews before tests. Lots of work but it is Chem. I wish he were teaching Chem 2 and Orgo - I'd take him for all of them!
Dr. Worden can come off as though he does not like you, however this is not true and he cares very much for his students successes. He is always available after class to explain anything you need. He's pretty funny in class and listens to student's input. His tests cover the same material practiced so there is nothing new, and he rounds up grades!
Hes great. Very smart, and a little fast talking. Sometimes I had a hard time following his explanations because he spoke fast. But tutoring helped. Not an easy class but he tries to simplify. Super accessible outside of class.
He's a great teacher. He cares about your success, and he teaches well. He can go a little fast, but just ask him to repeat. His tests aren't too hard, and he gives a good amount of extra credit, you just need to put in the time. He does a lab final, but don't worry: until you understood the labs and reviewed the calculations, you'll be good.
Professor Worden really cares about his student. He even sent notification to remind us about tests and homework. He is extra careful to keep to only the stuff we need to know. Four noncumulative tests throughout the semester one homework assignment per module. There is extra credit available for each module. Couldn't have asked for a better prof.
This prof is best if u already know chem & just need this class to move on. Avoid it otherwise. Test rvws don't cover all Q's on test!; if you know everything taught (impossible), you'll be fine :-(. He is accessible, but is incapable of seeing where you misunderstand & explaining. He uses easy examples in class, but hardest ex on tests & hw.
At SPC no profs teach the material other than on a GRADED assignment by marking answers wrong. It's maddening! Put correct answers in NB though! Lab sequence doesn't match lecture, so if u don't already know it, ur in trouble. True for all SPC labs. Write EVERYTHING in the NB- ALL equations, methods AND postlabs- u need it ALL for the practical.
Dr. Worden was awesome! I fell in love with chemistry because of how he taught it for intro and chem 1. Awesome for lecture and lab. I added chemistry as a minor after taking his classes
Dr. Wordon is a great professor super jumpy and fun but the class in general requires a lot of work. If you are taking this class just be prepared to study and review notes. For grading you get 1 extra bonus point for each module, HW modules, and 4 tests ( one gets dropped) and a final (mandatory). His teaching style is clear and simple.
I had Dr. Worden for the lab, and he is truly amazing. He checks up on students to make sure they are the right track, and he is willing to check a student's lab work. He explains the lab produces before the lab ( which is helpful). The grading is clear. There is a Pre-Lab report that is due (before lab) and lab report that is due a week.
Takes the time to teach you the material not just present it and leave you to figure it out. Homework prepares you for tests; do the worksheets and you'll do well on exams.
I took Worden for both intro to chem and chem 1. His lectures can be a little hard to follow sometimes, but he never minds you asking questions or for him to repeat himself. His tests are nearly identical to the homework, so if you do well on the homework you'll do well on the test. Lots of extra credit. Would definitely take again!!
Since all of my classes have to be online, even my lab class I thought Professor Worden would be a good professor. NOPE! There were no lectures to teach any of the material. It was a teach yourself situation. It works if you know what you are doing, but if you are like me and need extra help do not expect to receive it. If you need help get a tutor
Great teacher. I took him during covid for chem & lab. He had meeting times everyday with an open zoom call. You can go over any questions you have and he will work them out with you. He is also available via email if needed. Although chemistry was not easy, he gives you all the tools with great vide lectures and extra problems for practice.
Dr. Worden puts time and effort into his on line lectures. He gives 5 attempts at HW assignments, so that is where the focus should be. The HW is designed to get you comfortable with the material. You can ask him anything, at any time! Put the work into his class and study for the tests. He knows his Chemistry and is super cool if you show effort.
Dr. Worden, has clear lectures where he teaches you the actual concepts / content, which also mirrors the homework, and tests. Homework quizzes prepare you for tests. Do the work, and you will pass.
Prof Worden is great! I will always tell people to take an online lab because they are so much less work. Instead of doing lab reports each week, you will basically do a quiz (open book and with any resources he gives) about the weeks lab and the results that he gives you. He also makes plenty of videos that explain each topic. Also- extra credit!
This class was the last time chemistry made sense to me. Worden is a great professor the way he explains things really helped me understand it and he's great at explaining further when asked a question. I had him for lab too and he's very kind and isn't hung up on mistakes at all he makes the class less stressful and he's funny which helps too!
no textbook, but pay attention in lecture and study powerpoint. Given multiple tries on homework. I took this class in the summer, but it was manageable because of the way he organized the class. If I were to do this class again, I would not procrastinate doing the homework and extra credit assignments. Tests are not too difficult, but def study!
Best Chem lab teacher... 10/10 recommend
Recommend coming to class to get all the basic criteria, though attendance isn't always mandatory. Good with teaching and giving you a better understanding of what is being taught in class.
There's technically a textbook, but he doesn't use it. It's extra credit if you decide to actually use it. He has a PowerPoint and videos online covering the topics in class, so you only really need to show up on test days. The homework can be done online as many times as you want until the due date. He grades easy so small mistakes hurt less.
Nothing ever matches with what you do in lab. Lab reports you think is just converting it into quiz and showing your work and then random question you know nothing about pops up.get a tutor for sure. Doesn't explain concepts goes over general knowledge real quick and skims your work not seeing if its correct or not for your lab report. Study hard
Make sure you go over the PowerPoint before going to class because class time is usually just solving example problems. Class was pretty easy overall.
The final was really confusing and felt like nothing I had done previously in the lab. He uses Dr. Musgraves YouTube vids to explain concepts, and has the zoom window open for help and offers good feedback granted you turn in your notebook on time. His feedback/emails seem blunt and rude but the point gets across. Responds in a timely manner.
I was terrified of Chemistry, having nearly failed in high school. Turns out it was a bad teacher then, because Dr Worden made the subject So fun, and genuinely Easy! His examples and homework, as well as labs, made all the concepts clear. Fair grader, extra credit, great at answering questions, and fun! I took him for Chem I also, & it was great!
Dr. Worden really cares about his students. He gives extra help and makes sure you understand the content. He is easily contacted for help on anything. Average difficulty, you have to take it in person!! I took Dr. Worden last semester for chem 1025 + lab and had to take him for chem 2045 because he is an outstanding teacher and a great character.
Go to class, do the home work, study study study for tests and you will be fine. He answers questions VERY quickly. Available and willing for additional help. With the lab its very easy to get an A, just do the assignments and keep in mind you will be using your lab book for the final(2045).
He was okay. Kinda rude when it came to asking for help during his lab class. Powerpoints were kind of boring, and there was a lack of resources when it came to reviewing previous lectures online because the powerpoints lacked practice questions.
He is very rude when asking for help and doesn't provide it either. Lecture videos don't make sense. Be prepared to learn from YouTube or Khan Academy. He might be a good in-person teacher but I would avoid taking him online at all costs.
Professor Worden Provides useful feedback. He structured the course in a way that helps you learn. Including labs where you learn off the manual. The class is simple enjoyable with the online videos with another professor Musgrave. A Responsive caring professor. There is a ton of homework and sometimes the videos of the labs can be hard to follow.
There are homework assignments for every chapter with multiple attempts allowed. This will help you practice for exams. He has in-depth videos on every chapter and explains concepts better than the book. He is a PhD and is very knowledgeable about multiple careers in chemistry. His office hours are great and he's happy to answer any questions.
The class was AWFUL. I studied late nights, turned all the assignments on time, did the extra credit work and still got nothing. I messaged him asking for advice with study guides and extra homework to do and he never responded back. Exams aren't the same as the practice reviews he posts on canvas. Basically needed youtube in order to teach myself!
Took an online lab. Despite taking a different professor for the regular class, the lab was still understandable as a standalone class. He told you what you did wrong so you had a chance to do it right for credit. Easy if you put in the effort.
The tests are the hardest questions he could pick out. Especially, any exceptions to rules you just learned. He's condescending when asking for help. Lectures are very straightforward and helpful for understanding. However, the test questions are quite hard. I didn't struggle in chemistry before this class so I don't recommend taking.
I failed chemistry is high school and was really avoiding having to take it in college. That said, I got an A in his class (lecture and lab). It required commitment, but if you showed up and did the work you got it done. He genuinely cares about his students. I'm sad I could only have him for one semester. Hands down one of the best.
Dr. Worden is exceptional at breaking down complex chemistry concepts, making them easy for everyone to grasp. He is very responsive and genuinely dedicated to his students' learning and success. I appreciated his teaching methods so much that I decided to take him for Intro, Chemistry 1, and Chemistry 2.
James Worden is a great professor. I found him approachable and friendly. His lectures are on point. He provides practice worksheets, and video resources you can watch if you missed something. Textbook is not required. There are 12 homework assignments (quizzes), one for each chapter, with unlimited time and attempts, 4 exams, and a final.
Really good lab professor.
If you are stuck between professors, pick him. He is very knowledgeable and makes learning Chemistry easy. I would recommend anyone to take him.
He gives multiple opportunities of extra credit. For example doing the video lecture notes and the Pearson assignments. Only has one homework quiz for each chapter. Posts study guides with answers for each test and the final.
Great guy, I really loved his lecture. I know some kids say he just does equations and doesn't explain how the formulas work in the real world, but honestly, I like math, and if you wanted to find out anything else, you could just ask. Tests were good; he doesn't know anything of you he didn't thoroughly explain in lecture.
Lect&lab over summer. Test material is straightforward and grading is fair. Excred is provided for lect. Lects are mix of pp slides and ex problems. Lab requires to make a notebook but is easy. He responds fast and is informative.Dr Worden makes sure students understand the material. If you fail, its your fault. Great professor who cares! 10/10
Amazing guy who will actually get to know you if you give him a chance. I just started a new semester and he recognized me instantly in the hallway as I was walking to my Chemistry II Lab and he cracked a joke. Love this professor I just wish he taught CHM 2046 haha. He also moves around the lab constantly to make sure you understand the material.
Greatest professor i ever had he really cares about you passing class and his tests are a little long but fairly easy if you study the material. He gives a test review and tries to be as helpful as possible.
I struggled a lot with taking chem online, I didn't like the layout of the class. Lecture videos were boring, monotone, and I used a lot of outside sources to get me through this class. He was easy to reach though, and the extra credit plus the assignments are what saved my grade. Probably wouldn't take him again though.
