Good teacher. Very willing to help in office hours. Tests are fair-not easy. Go to class for clicker quizzes. Read the book as you go along with lecture. Fast lecturer but posts slides online. Funny and nice guy. Only had him for half semester and the other half was a rude awakening. Check that out before you take Hon Prin Bio. Don't take Dr. Moss!
Loved Dr. Zanzot. He's tough though! Asks very specific details, but he's funny and genuinely wants you to do well. Study hard, study the book!! He goes STRAIGHT from it. I'd take him again.
Dr. Zanzot is a really awesome guy. He goes extremely fast so it's almost impossible to get all of the notes. Luckily, he posts the powerpoints on canvas which is really helpful. His tests are very hard and tricky. I studied extremely hard though and was able to get a 100 on both of them. The lab is super easy and somewhat interesting. I recomend.
Dr. Zanzot is a really awesome guy. He's extremely helpful and wants everyone to get an A. The tests are very difficult, but if you study, you can definitely make an A. He goes extremely fast so it's nearly impossible to write down all of the notes. Luckily, he posts the slides online. The lab is really easy and somewhat interesting. I recommend
Very fun class. Dr. Zanzot makes the class extremely interesting and wants students to do well. He does go extremely fast so it's hard to get all the notes down. Organisms of the day are always interesting and usually are easy points on tests. The lab is simply observing organisms. The final was a little overwhelming but overall a great class.
Zanzot is a tough professor who doesn't teach that well. His tests are so much harder than they should be based on the lecture notes. Most people failed the class. Random quizzes if people don't come to class.
Super awesome teacher, its just a hard class regardless of who you get. Zanzot is definitely one of the best ones to get. He is really funny and gives good example to make it stick. Pay attention in class and you won't have to study so long!
I had Dr. Zanzot for Honors Biology and he was wonderful! I visited him during office hours to look over what I missed after each exam and he was more than willing to help me out and explain to me why each answer was correctincorrect. I'm even taking Honors Organismal next semester instead of regular so I'll have him as a professor!
I took Honors Biology with Prof. Zanzot and he implemented "flipped classroom" style learning. It was a lot of readinglearning outside of class and not a lot of lecture, unless you asked him to clarify a point. He did interactive lessons and a great job relating to students. Read lab manual before lab for quizzes. READ TEXTBOOK. Accumulative final
Overall it was a good class, but definitely difficult and time consuming. Zanzot is a great professor, and changed our tests to group tests after he realized we learn the information better that way. He is not the best lecturer, and you definitely have to read the textbook closely, but he is a nice guy, fair, and funny.
I would not take this class again. Very long lectures. Reads straight from powerpoint. He does not respond to emails and does not communicate with SI instructor because her practice exams were nothing like his tests. He oversimplifies things and then hits you hard on exams. He does not update Canvas either. If he is your professor, SWITCH OUT.
Dr. Zanzot is a nice guy, and he is funny too. Sadly, that is where the compliments end. He flies through lecture notes too fast to comprehend the info., and oversimplifies things to make is sound easy. When test day rolls around the question are much more complex. He never once responded to my e-mails or messages, which cost me points. Avoid him.
Dr. Zanzot overall is an awesome teacher. However, his class is tough. He's helpful if you go during office hours, and is a funny guy. Tests were very hard and he never communicated with the SI. He gave students opportunities for extra credit, so that's a plus. If you study really well with large amounts of notes, you'll do fine in his class.
He was a stickler on people leaving the class, and would get mad if they did. His tests come straight from his notes, so attendance is a must. He relates things in kind a cool way-depending on how you learn. Tests were tough though. Did give lots of extra credit opportunities, which is a plus. Would recommend.
Dr. Zanzot is a great guy and very approachable. However, lectures are very long and most of the test material is from the book. The best way to do well in this class is to read all of the assigned chapters. So unless you're prepared to do that, don't expect to do great in this class.
I loved Zanzot. He's a little scatterbrained and not the best at answering email (if you want to get something done, go to his office hours). He's a really great lecturer, and the tests are hard, but they're okay if you know what you're doing. He was my favorite professor so far.
Loved his class! Took him for Organismal biology and principles of biology. Very interesting and funny lectures. Don't be afraid to ask questions throughout the lecture if needed. Took him in a extra large class setting and also a medium size class setting and enjoyed it in both. He uses good examples that keep students captivated and learning.
Dr. Zanzot is a pretty laid back teacher. The questions on his test were mainly off of his outlines and lectures. He would always bring in organism of the day which made the class more interactive and fun. Be sure to take notes on the information about the organism of the day because that is not the exams.
He is soo humerus but his exams are crazy hard. I had a (high F-- low D) the whole Semester but somehow I ended up with a C. Study and go to class
He's highly intelligent, funny, and loves what he does. However, he moves really quickly and assumes you know the material. His test are very comprehensive based and difficult. But he offers good studying advice, if you ask. Don't expect to pass by not working hard, but definitely utilize him as a resource. ASK THINGS.
I took Dr. Zanzot for BIOL 1020 and 1030. His tests for BIOL 1020 were much harder than 1030 but I enjoyed the course. You must read the book before lectures(maybe a few days after if you are swamped and get behind) but he really enjoys what he teaches and makes it interesting. If you apply yourself, an A is definitely possible:)
First test was multiple choice and pretty difficult, but after he changed our tests to group tests after realizing we learned better that way. Its a "flipped classroom" where you have to watch his lecture videos on youtube outside of class. Tests come straight from those lectures. Zanzot really wants you to learn and succeed. Also he is hilarious.
In his honors class, at the end of class, he randomly selects one test at your table to grade and gives everyone that grade; its a flipped classroom with unnecessarily long video lectures; going to class doesn't mean much bc normally he just gets you to draw some process that he'll never elaborate on; however, hes a cool guy and office hours help.
Dr. Zanzot cares about making his class fun and easy. However, it is flipped and you have to dedicate some time to watching videos. It doesn't seem that much while you're doing, but I had a weekend where he didn't post videos and it was glorious. He has group tests which are out of 100 on a possible 120 points and will try and help you out.
Don't get me wrong, Zanzot is a funny man, but its so hard to do well in that class and he makes his regular biology class like an honors one.
Group test. Make sure you sit with a decent amount of people.
This was my favorite class this semester. Its a "flipped classroom" so you have to work more outside of class, but I really learned a lot. Zanzot wants you to succeed. The tests were group tests and you really have to know the material. Overall a great class. I am definitely taking him for Organismal next semester.
Zanzot is really funny and definitely knows his stuff, but his tests are super tough (a lot tougher than they need to be). I consider his class a way for Auburn to weed people out of Pre-Health majors.
Zanzot is hilarious. However, his tests are unnecessarily hard. His regular biology class takes harder tests than his honors class because honors takes group tests. You have to make an effort outside of class to really understand the material, but its doable. I started this class with a 60 after the first test and I'm going into the final with a 90
Really nice guy and he tries to make class enjoyable, but his tests are REALLY tough and there aren't a lot of opportunities for grades other than the tests. He will give the occasional bonus assignment but don't count on those. Use any study method available to you
I loved his class because he was funny. His tests are super hard, I never really found a great and affective way to study though. If you don't like hearing jokes about sex, DONT TAKE!! But he has been one of my favorite professors, despite the hardness of his class. Good luck with his class. War Eagle!
James Zanzot it the absolute worst professor at Auburn. His lectures are long but do not help on the tests. He did not answer a single one of my (very important) emails. He jokes around during class and seems like a nice guy, yet our test averages are D's but he does not scale. I had a 79 and it was not rounded up to a B.
Dr. Zanzot does everything in his power to make sure that his students get the grades they want. His video lectures were clear, and they conveyed all the material we needed for the test. He switched to group tests in order to boost our grades even further. All-around good teacher, very approachable, very intelligent.
Personally, I loved Zanzot. Nice guy, hilarious, and pretty fair. Unfortunately, all his lectures were only posted online, meaning we had two-three extra hours of homework and we usually didn't end up doing anything during actual lecture time. The tests are pretty tough, just pray that he allows you to take group tests, individual test are insane
Took him for Honors Principles of Biology & taking him for Honors Organismal next semester. All his tests except the first one were group tests for his honors class, so as long as your group is smart you'll probably get an A. He's super chill and funny and a super nice guy; willing to work with you/help you. Prepare to watch lecture videos for HW.
Dr. Zanzot is by far the greatest professor I've had. Yes his test are hard but if you show you care he will help you. He's very understanding and just wants all to succeed. Go to all SI sessions and study a few days in advance. You have to work for this class.
He is a great guy that really wants you to be successful. His tests are hard, but he scaled them all at the end. He does not respond to emails, so that's a little aggravating. However, he tries to keep class interesting and posts lectures online- WATCH THEM. Not a bad class. Rounded my 89 to an A at the end since I asked
This is a flipped classroom, which I've never been a fan of. You are required to watch lecture videos on your own time that are unnecessarily long. And the time that you spend in class isn't really used to teach you anything. However, he's an interesting guy and the few times he did lecture in class, it was pretty helpful. Expect group work.
Dr. Zanzot was by far my favorite professor this semester. I had him for Honors Bio, and by the second week, he knew all of our names which was a nice gesture. Group tests are all long, open-ended, whole entire page, your hand is going to fall off, kind of tests, but you learn SO MUCH! I loved this class. Highly recommended.
Like any honors course, this was pretty difficult. Be sure to sit with smart people because its group tests. Its a flipped classroom and the lecture videos are very long. But Zanzot honestly is a good teacher. He wants you to succeed. He's funny and approachable. I finished with an 88 only because of the super hard first test.
Professor Zanzot is hilarious and fun to listen to. However, he expects you to participate and watch his lecture videos. His tests are really tough, but come directly from his lecture videos. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Zanzot made lectures interesting and sometimes I'd actually be excited to go to class. He does have a tendency to read straight from the PowerPoint (which is put on Canvas after class) and his tests are pretty tough. It's a weed out class, so you actually have to put forth effort; you HAVE TO STUDY. GO TO CLASS AND I PROMISE YOU WILL PASS.
Dr. Zanzo is a really funny guy and tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible. However, his test are extremely difficult and require a lot of studying. He post all of his lectures online, but can sometimes be unclear about what he is trying to say. The book is a great tool for studying and clarifying topics in the class.
Tests are pretty tough but scales them all at the end of semester. Puts every lecture online so you can skip class everyday if you want. Very little HW. Had an 89 before scaling/bonus and a 101 after. Great teacher, entertaining, overall great class.
Zanzot is a really cool guy but his tests are hard. I never skipped a day of class and watched all his lecture videos online. I took great notes and studied more for this class than I have for any other class in my life but did poorly on all of the exams. He gives a bunch of points back to your tests at the end and your lab grade will boost it too
Honestly this was the hardest class I have taken. I did not learn much and I studied more for this class than any other class. I took notes, listened to his lectures, read the book, met with him, never missed class, and even looked up youtube videos for dummies. Well all that to say I still did poorly in the class. I am an A student & I got a C.
Great Teacher, Flipped Classroom setting which allowed me to make sure i got all the notes down and didn't miss any. I learned a lot in this class. The first test was hard but after that they got really easy because you took them as a group but you have to know SO much more info to pass them.
Brings an organism to class everyday which is awesome! Kind of unclear about grading criteria, but a totally awesome dude. Field trips are super fun. Group tests, so pick your group wisely!
Great, energetic lectures. Loved going to class every day, even though it was an 8 AM. Test are pretty hard, go to office hours after the first one. Definitely recommend taking his classes.
Took him for honors biology and honors organismal biology. We had group exams but he dropped the bomb that our final was going to be individual a week before the final. But he gave so many bonus point opportunities that it turned out all right. Really nice guy and respected by students. Always cracking jokes in class. Would recommend.
I would definitely suggest taking Zanzot. He does not take attendance and only gives a couple of homework assignments. I never went to class, but he posts lecture videos so I never missed anything.
Dr. Zanzot is by far my favorite teacher at Auburn. He will answer any questions you may have during his office hours, and will help any way he can. He posts extremely helpful youtube videos of lectures that are 100% inclusive of material on the exams.
Zanzot is hilarious and makes his lectures funny and interesting. If you try and study hard enough it's hard not to make an A with the amount of extra credit he gives. He posts online lectures but I would recommend going to class because sometimes he has test questions on things he mentioned in lecture. Great professor.
THE best professor at Auburn. Inspired me to be a biology major. Take him if you can, he is amazing.
This was the flipped classroom style of learning so get ready to watch a lot of videos and take a lot of notes outside of the class. In class was more looking at animals or making powerpoint. He is very tech-savvy and expects you to be too. The video project at the end requires someone who knows how to use iMovie well.
All his lectures are posted on YouTube. I love the structure of his class. Great teacher and also pretty funny.
Zanzot is a funny, kind-hearted teacher who is really fun to listen to and talk with. The class material, however, is medium, mostly memorization. The exams are extremely difficult going beyond anything learned in lecture, and the averages were extremely low. I wouldn't recommend him because of the difficulty of the exams.
Worst professor I have had by far. He is a nice man but is a very difficult teacher. I studied for hours on each test and failed every one. I even went to his office hours to get help and all I got out of it was a half written picture of photosynthesis and a picture of a cat. DONE take him.
Doesn't think anything is his fault. He messed up a test and screws over people who worked hard for their grade. His lectures are horrible. Test are based off reading no matter how much he says they are from lecture. He is not funny. His class is passable. You can get an A. He is thinks his non-honors college students are stupid.
Mr. Zanzot is a really funny and entertaining guy but I have never put so much work into a class and not succeeded. I would spend COUNTLESS hours studying for his tests and at best make a 65. All my other classes I have A's in except this one for comparison. If you want to challenge yourself, take him. But I would look into other bio teachers.
study for days and make a D. his test are impossible -tricky questions. test heavy
Zanzot is actually a rlly good teacher. He's super funny & makes class more interesting than expected. His tests r really difficult but if u study enough/early enough, u should do well. His lectures r posted on Canvas, but most of the time in class he'll add/take away things we need/don't need to know; its more beneficial to just go to class.
Awesome professor, really knows and loves what he teaches. He really wants his students to pass and gives lots of opportunities to raise your grade. His tests are difficult but they are the lecture material.
Zanzot's class was definitely one of my favorites this semester. He is a great professor, and always adds humor to his lectures. All of his notes are online, and attendance is never mandatory. His tests are of moderate difficulty, just study hard and you'll be fine. He's also just a super nice guy and very approachable and willing to help.
He's sarcastic, but not always in a good way. I hated the flipped classroom, not because I'm not capable of learning on my own, but because I wasted hours outside of class taking notes and then we just sat in class doing nothing important. We took group tests, which sucked because I did all the work and studying. Very frustrating overall.
Dr. Zanzot was by far one of my favorite professors this semester. His class is pretty easy if you either pay attention in class or watch his online lecture videos. He gives quite a few extra credit opportunities and he scales the tests at the end of the semester. He's overall a great professor and I would definitely recommend him.
I enjoyed lecture & learned a ton, but for some reason I could not take his tests to save my life... I averaged 68-75s on the tests (uncurved) and the class average was generally around 54. Since almost all our points were test points, the curve he put on two of the tests & the two extra credit assignments saved my grade.
Zanzot is a great biology professor and is very funny. I really enjoyed his Honors Bio 1020 class and highly recommend it.
Dr. Zaznot was a cool guy. I wouldn't take him again due to how hard his test were. I have never studied so hard for a class. I never made above a 70 on a test but ended up with a B due to him scaling. The best way to study is to outline the book. Also, all his lecture videos are online.
Dr. Zanzot is a good professor. He gives chance at extra credit and curved our class at the end a significant amount (my grade raised 10 points). His tests can be a little tricky but his lectures are online and I would study those the most.
If you are a pre-med student, do not take this class. The first biology should not be this difficult. I know the class is honors, but it was really just difficult to get a read on what he was looking for. There is no lecture, just meaningless in-class activities. He is a nice guy, but I taught myself all of the material.
Attendance isn't mandatory technically, but he will definitely notice if you aren't showing up or participating. He's a helpful, fun, and entertaining teacher. However, I personally don't like having to watch hours of video lectures and then coming to class to do almost always nothing. I did enjoy the subject and class. Group free-response tests.
I attended every class and don't think it made much of a difference. If you practically memorize his lecture videos, you will do well. His test questions are worded strangely, but he offers extra credit and quizzes on each chapter which boost your grade. At the very end of the semester, he scales everything a lot.
Zanzot is a pretty cool guy and puts all of his lecture slides and videos online. HIS TEST ARE REALLY HARD. Watch all of his lecture videos and take notes from those because they help a lot! His test are not just memorizing the material. You have to learn it in detail. His first two test are the hardest so study a lot!! He does scale at the end!!
Wow. This class brought some tears. Made it through to say the least but I have never studied so much to do so poorly, especially on the first two tests. Go to class, study forever, and you'll somehow do just fine. He curves your grade big time at the end. His lectures are very interesting too because you can tell he is passionate about them.
Zanzot is a great teacher who really loves his material, but in the honors section the classroom is flipped. That makes class time sort of marginalized with a big emphasis on the out of class, online lectures. It is a tough course, but Zanzot is very entertaining and made class worth going to because he really knows everything backwards and forward
His tests are made up only of his lectures. You only have to buy the book for the Mastering code that you might not use anyway.
He's very funny and a very good lecturer! His class is hard but he gives you plenty of resources to do well.
He is an amazing teacher, I wish he was teaching all of the biology classes I have to take for my major. He offers a LOT of bonus assignments, some are even for just coming to class! While you might not do too hot on his tests, at the end of the semester he curves ALL of your exams. He is passionate about the students and the subject, TAKE HIM!!
He is an awesome teacher and provides a lot of information to do well in his class. He also offers a lot of easy quizzes to boost your grade and gives extra credit multiple times throughout the semester.
Zanzot truly knows the material and is quite funny. I much preferred his 1027 class to his 1037 class. I certainly learned the material for Organismal, but the amount of "busy work" the class entailed was frustrating. I highly recommend his Honors Principles class, but would take his regular Organismal class over honors to have the lecture setting.
Zanzot's tests are SUPER hard; like everyone fails them. But, he curves at the end of the semester. He does some extra credit with the book about Darwin at the end. Gave extra credit to people that came to class when he had laryngitis. He is kind of sarcastic and makes jokes. Don't know much about BIO professors but I'd take him again.
I took Honors Principles and Organismal two years ago, and his lectures and teaching style were clear enough that I still remember most of what I learned in both. Great teacher, very nice guy--he really cares about his students. He'll try his best to ensure everyone gets the grade they want. If he taught higher level bio I'd definitely take again.
So funny, interesting, and positive. Very passionate about his subject and it shows. His tests are very difficult. I made a B on the first one with moderate effort and studied weeks for the second and somehow failed. Know that there will be extra credit assignments and he will curve grades at the end.
Zanzot is seriously hilarious. He definitely loves lecturing and its honestly the only lecture class I've ever enjoyed. Attendance is not mandatory but honestly if you don't go, do not count on getting an A on literally any quizzes or tests. He makes you work for your grade, just be prepared to study HARD. He keeps it entertaining, just be prepared
hardest tests ever
Teaches the content well and is pretty dang funny
He is a good professor and funny. I learned a lot. A lot of people who take honors bio had it in high school but I did not and I still made a high A. Personally I would recommend the honors bio (flipped classroom) over his regular lecture class! Class and lab are pretty laid-back.
Have to listen to tons of lectures outside of class. Also online quizzes before every class. Weird projects that are kind of frustrating.
He is pretty typical. He grades super hard, but curves at the end of the semester. Would take again!
His honors class is flipped classroom, but he doesn't do it very well. You spend an hour and half or so watching the lecture videos out of class, then when you go to class you rarely do anything of substance. We had to do two projects and the criteria was incredibly unclear, which was very common throughout course. Not clear on what is expected.
Zanzot is great, and if you take his honors class, all the tests are group tests. The material is difficult sometimes and you do have to apply yourself, but it's not a super hard class. Definitely would recommend him, especially for honors biology.
Doctor Zanzot is a boss. I took Bio 1020 with him and he is super smart, hilarious and as long as you work hard it is a fair class.
Dr. Zanzot can come off harsh but he is actually funny and caring as a professor. I had him for honors so it was very group heavy. He does a flipped classroom with a quiz before every class. A group project and individual project are due at the end of the semester. All exams (including the final) are taken as a group. Group selection is random.
Had him for honors bio, I wouldn't take him unless you have a very strong foundation in biology. The lectures are flipped so you watch recorded lectures on youtube. Class time is pretty much irrelevant and grading guidelines are very ill-defined. Exams are group and you can never go into enough detail.
He is an excellent teacher! Really passionate about biology and is very helpful in office hours about answering questions regarding past tests and questions about our topics. Tests are hard so prepare to study. He gives out bonus on the quizzes and scales tests at the end. Attendance isn't mandatory but I HIGHLY recommend going to class.
Group tests. Group projects. He secretly takes attendance with a face chart. The tests are hard and he is RUDE!!! This is the most unorganized, unclear class I have taken so far, and I'm a sophomore vs 90% of the class who were freshman. Group tests sound great until no one else studies like they say they will!
I honestly loved his class. He is a tough professor, but he scales at the end. My 89 went to a 97. He loves what he does and he does care, even though he may seem like he doesnt. He posts lectures online but I recommend going to class.
A great teacher but is sometimes impersonal during office hours. study the most for the first 2 test because they are the hardest. The class gets easier the longer you stay and he gives a scale based on the most missed questions (raised my grade 8 points!). Overall great class and you learn a lot but not an "easy A."
I thought Zanzot was awesome. His tests aren't a walk in the park but if you study, they aren't too bad. His tests are based off of what he says in lecture so I would recommend going. He scales before the final and it raised my average 6 points (95 to a 101). He also gives an easy extra credit assignment that raised my grade 2 points (101 to 103).
This class made me love biology. Tests are group tests, but are very hard (all diagrams, drawing out tables/pictures, etc.). You are stuck with the same group all semester, so if you're in bad group, you probably won't have a good experience. Flipped classroom so watching the lectures is VERY time consuming, but put in work and you will get an A.
I really enjoyed taking the honors class even though I honestly thought I would hate the flipped classroom. The majority of the class is group based, so hope for a good group (my group was amazing!) I would highly suggest taking his honors class if you don't mind group tests/projects and are willing to work outside of the classroom.
Super cool dude, pretty hard class though, but it's cool. so much group work but it helps on the tests. Pay attention to what he stresses in class, you'll need it on the test for sure.
Dr. Zanzot gave great lectures and kept them entertaining so the class would be engaged. The four tests he gave were hard, but he offers extra credit through online quizzes for each chapter covered and extra points on tests at the end of the semester. Attendance is not mandatory and he posts his lectures on Youtube.
Zanzot is a really cool guy and makes lectures interesting. He really tries to make topics easier to understand and curves all the tests at the end of the semester based on how the class did on each test. There are online quizzes which are a good grade booster and he also provides one extra credit assignment
Zanzot was a solid choice for my SUST 2000 discussion leader. He's hilarious with his stories from Africa and he knows a little too much about memes. The only downside to this class is that he is not at all organized and he doesn't respond to emails promptly. It's a bit weird in discussions when no one is talking because he doesn't know either.
Dr. Zanzot is my favorite professor I have had at Auburn so far. He is funny and sarcastic, makes lectures interesting, gives lot of easy quizzes, and curves your grade at the end of the semester. He doesn't take attendance, but if you miss a lot even with his lecture videos posted online, it's hard to pass. Prepare for a lot of material on tests.

I love Dr. Zanzot! He is very engaging and makes lectures interesting. His tests are HARD, be prepared to study a lot for them, but he scales big time at the end of the semester. If he doesn't lecture on it, it won't be on the test. I never opened the book all semester. He posts his lecture videos online and they are your #1 study tool.
Hes not a bad teacher the class can just be hard and you have to work for your grade.
I have taken Dr. Zanzot for both BIOL 1020 and 1030, and both semesters, he was awesome. His lectures are very witty, and employ a dry sense of humor. He doesn't care if you are on your phone or laptop. There are only 3/4 exams plus a final, but he curves the exams at the end of the year. If you show up to lecture, and actually try, you'll succeed
Dr. Zanzot has a flipped style classroom where you watch the lectures online (and take quizzes on them) and do more interactive activities while in class. For the honors class, the tests are all done in a group. His class is difficult, but definitely do-able if you are willing to study and go to class. I enjoyed it, take him!
tests are easy because they are group tests, have quizzes to do almost everyday outside of class on material, grades super hard on class projects and honestly expects a little too much out of them. but, has multiple bonus opportunities and lab grade is included into class which is a good thing.
This class is one where you have to work. Don't just memorize, actually understand the concepts or you won't do well on tests. That being said, he helps you where he can. Curves near the end of the semester, and brings back frequently missed questions that show up on the final which are easy to study. If you miss class, his lectures are on Youtube.
I learned so much in this class but it took a ton of work. The absolute hardest part of this class was the midterm/final practicals in lab which took the most amount of studying. He grades quite harshly on your presentations but there are so many grades that you can recover from almost anything. He is NOT accessible outside of class so don't try.
Not a bad lecturer, but they tend to be more on the boring side which doesn't help when lecture is at 8 am and there is practically no reason to attend class since he has condensed online lectures. The tests always seem to have confusing irrelevant questions. Many online quizzes help give free points.
He makes organismal biology harder than it needs to be. I would study 2 weeks before a test and never got above a C on any of them. The tests are a lot more difficult than what you would expect.
The people that complain about this class need to buckle down and make some flash cards. This class requires one skill: memorization. Simply watch the 3 hours of lecture videos per test and read over the powerpoints once, and you can make an A or a B on each test with little worry. Very easy class, however lab is hard.
I took Zanzot's class with a bunch of harder classes thinking that Biology I would be an easy-ish class... False. His biology class is NOT memorization (do not listen to people who say flashcards will help you). If you don't understand the connects front and back and sideways, you will struggle to get Bs on his test. He is not accessible by email.
Dr Zanzot is one of the greats. He cares about his students and his field and wants you to enjoy it as much as he does. I had him T/TH at 8 am and he did his very best to make it entertaining and engaging. He doesn't answer emails often but is very aware of it. Go to his office hours. He will help you and will not let you feel dumb for asking Qs.
Zanzot was a great professor for honors biology, everything is group work and there are quizzes due at 8 am before class that are accessible the night before. LITERALLY, EVERYTHING IS GROUP. Tests and exams included. It's a fun class and Zanzot has very funny dry humor.
Had him for honors bio and it was a breeze. All group projects and group tests; an easy A. Take him if you're in honors college. I've heard that his regular course is much more difficult though. Attendance is not mandatory and is actually quite pointless. Regardless, it was an easy class and Zanzot is a great dude! NOT accessible outside of class.
Zanzot is a really quirky professor that always makes classes fun. However, his lecture style is flipped, so you do all of your learning outside of class. While this makes classes really fun, it can be a lot to do on your own when you're already trying to study.
Zanzot is an interesting guy. He has an uncanny fondness of sex jokes. Likes to stand on a table when he wants to make a soapbox speech. Tests are not easy, but doable if you put in the time to study. Skim the textbook to supplement his slides (he rushes through most of them).
Tests are crazy hard but the billions of quizzes can save your grade from pretty much anything. Attendance isn't mandatory but he's super funny during lectures. All of his lectures and powerpoints are online and going to office hours is really helpful. Plus, at the end of the year he scales your grade super hard and it's amazing.
Zanzot is probably one of the funniest professors at Auburn but his class is not easy by any stretch. While class is not mandatory you have to know the content one way or another cause you will not pass if you don't study for those tests. If you do fairly decent you'll come out with a low A or B with all the extra credit at the end of the course.
I came into this class worried because it was the basis of my major. Zanzot's classes were lecture heavy, but they weren't boring. He always found a way to make something interesting or funny, and he cared about what and who he was teaching too. Ina class of over 200 people he still made everyone feel comfortable. Taking notes always prepared me.
His tests are hard but at the end of the semester he curves. My grade went up 10 points from the curve. Do the bonus for sure. It is not an easy class so get ready to study a lot.
I would say im generally pretty smart yet I STRUGGLED to maintain a B.. I studied for weeks for his tests. They are extremely hard so dont expect good grades on them (especially the first 2). He curves at the end of the semester which raised my grade 9 points. Just DO NOT expect this class to be a breeze because its very hard. But its do-able.
I freaking love this guy. Organismal is suppose to be pretty difficult, however he made it so intriguing and fun. It has been the only 8am class I have looked forward to going to so far. Also posts videos of him reading slides that helps immensely for studying. Look out for secret organism on canvas as he uses it as bonus question on final
Dr. Zanzot is super funny, but the class isn't a breeze. There is a lot of material on every test so don't try to cram. All of the powerpoints are online and he scales A LOT at the end, so that's super helpful.
There were 4 exams. The exams in general were hard, but he curves all of the exams at the end of the semester based off how many people missed questions. He has online quizzes that are very easy and cover key topics. Easy points. Great teacher, the way he explains things makes a lot of sense. I had a B all semester but curve gave me an A. Cool dude
Zanzot was SUPER funny with dry humor and hes helpful during class, he will sit with you and explain everything you need to know. Lectures are online because flipped classroom, the tests and projects are all group. Its a good class as long as you do your work.
Zanzot will always be one of my favorite professors here at auburn. He is hilarious and you can tell that he really loves the material he teaches, especially in his 1030 class. ALWAYS watch his lecture videos, they were the reason I was able to understand everything. His sense of humor makes biology and my twitter timeline a little more enjoyable.
Makes class engaging and entertaining. Curves at the end of the semester. Easy to get along with and helpful with office hours. Strongly recommend.
Honestly, I'm conflicted. Zanzot is a really nice teacher. I appreciate how much he tries to interact with students even though the class is scheduled at a time in which no one wants to come. The reason why I am conflicted is because of the course material. We were way behind when compared to the other biology classes and lab. Also, HARD CLASS.
Dr. Zanzot is a great teacher. Most learning is done outside of class in the form of video lectures while in class you will do group activities. If you put in the work outside of class and turn in assignments, it is easy to get an A.
I wish Zanzot was my dad
This was a HUGE time commitment outside of class. He says nothing of importance in class unless it's to assign another time-consuming and pointless project. You must watch his lecture videos as homework which can be up to an hour plus a quiz. There is a large overall film project which will be graded harshly with a rude comments. grades very slowly
So this is a difficult class, but if you put the work in you can get an A. The lecture videos are a lifesaver, and Zanzot posts study guides before every test. 4 tests, several online quizzes, some extra credit assignments, and the final.
Not a terribly hard class. If you miss class, he has videos to online. He's funny if your're into dry humor. He did have a test the week before finals which wasn't cool but it wasn't hard. Also he scaled the tests at the end so your grade might jump 5+ points.
Great professor! I had him at 8am but attendance isn't mandatory since all of his lecture videos are online. Difficult class and very time consuming but it is possible to do well. Gives some extra credit and ends up scaling all exams at the end. Activities points come from canvas quizzes and will bring up your grade if you do well.
Zanzot is a really good prof. He cares about his students and tries to make the subject interesting (which I appreciated in Organismal Bio). He gives you a lot of daily grades to buffer your test grades in case you don't do well. My only issue with him is that he wasn't really clear on what to study for the first 4 exams so his tests are hard.
Zanzot is one of my favorite professors I've had so far. He makes class fun and always makes the class laugh. He does give a lot of online quizzes that can help buffer your grade, but the tests can be tricky because he doesn't really say what to study. Definitely take him if you can
If you are in Honors- TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Yes, you will have to work for an A, but it is very doable. lots of group work, but that's okay because I loved my group!!! Field trips, film projects, quizzes on canvas that are open note, no class attendance taken, and Zanzot not answering emails but being an awesome, funny dude- basically sums it up lol
Pretty easy class. If your good at memorization, it'll be a breeze. Studied for the tests a couple days before and got mostly a's. Didn't study for the final very much and it was very easy.
If you put some effort into Zanzot's class you will pass with a good grade. I put minimal effort in and ended with a B. My test average was horrible, but he curves at the end and my grade went up around 15 points. Take him and put some effort into it and an A or B is easily attainable.
If you're in Honors, take this class. The class is intimidating at first, but stick with it because he gives group tests and lots of opportunity to raise your grade. Lab is super easy because post lab quizzes and hand-ins aren't mandatory.
This is a flipped classroom with group tests. Class is not mandatory but he notices when you're gone. Not too hard since the tests are group but it's difficult to have to watch the lectures beforehand as sometimes it could be up to 2 hours worth of material. Dr. Zanzot is kind and understanding and wants his students to truly learn. Good 4 Honors
The only bad thing is that all he does is lecture. His lectures are funny but it's really hard to understand what you're learning if you're not given a way to apply it. The tests are semi-hard so you HAVE to study! Don't skip either! It's non-mandatory but super helpful and fun!
Zanzot is a good pick, especially if you've taken APBio. I found his lectures interesting and amusing. Go to his office hours! He is willing to take the time to make sure you understand the content. He has online lecture videos too, which are good for reinforcement, and can be helpful when studying. Go to class, much commentary left off slides.
Professor Zanzot is amazing! He goes through notes very fast, but he posts all notes and lecture videos in canvas which is really helpful! The tests can be challenging, but online quizes will help your grade. At the end of the semester he scales all the tests and gives bonus points. Before the final my overall grade went from 91 to a 101!
Dr. Zanzot is amazing. Lab sucks, but that bio lab. He is a staple to Auburns Biology department. Group tests are a blessing, and the projects are work but helpful. Watch his lectures online and youll do awesome. Word to the wise: the second class is the day your group for the semester is made, so choose wisely. TAKE HIM. YOU WONT REGRET IT.
Class is total points with group tests making up less than 25% of your grade. Split up the chapters for the test, study hard (learning objectives!), and youll get high As easily. Dont be afraid to talk in class and ask questions during tests - Zanzot wants everyone to succeed and will help you out an insane amount if you show that you care!
Dr. Zanzot gives four tests, online chapter quizzes (easy points), & a final. He posts all of his lecture videos on canvas which is really helpful reviewing for a test. I would suggest going to class because he'll give you hints on things to study. His tests aren't necessarily easy, but he is a great teacher. He'll curve tests at end & give bonus.
Dr. Zanzot made biology so much fun! He gives his lecture videos online and if you study those and his learning objectives, youll have an easy time in his class. Make sure to do all extra credit (it is super easy and helps your grade so much) and go visit him in office hours so he knows who you are.
Dr. Zanzot lectures every class period (3x/week) and it is IMPERATIVE to attend class in order to do well. He gave a total of 4 extra credit assignments when I took the class and they are the only reason I had a B in the class. I hate biology, but Dr. Zanzot is hilarious (constantly making jabs at "bammers") and I enjoyed having him.
I LOVE Dr. Zanzot! I am taking him again in the spring for Biol 1030. You have 4 tests and the final. He has lots of quizzes on canvas that count for 40% of your grade, they are easy though. He puts all of his lecture videos online. I had 35 bonus points and he scales the exams at the end before the final. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Dr. Zanzot is the BEST!!! Really wish I could take him for my other biology classes, he is a great professor. Tests are hard and you definitely have to work for your grade, but he's really fair and will curve everyone's grade at the end of the semester, as well as give multiple opportunities for extra credit. He is truly a gem!!!
Everything in this class is done in a group: test, projects, etc. It is taught in a flipped classroom style so be prepared to watch about an hours worth of videos before each class (this is also what you take notes from). Dr. Zanzot is always super helpful and really interactive with the class (he will help you during tests as well :))
Strange guy, but good professor. The class was flipped so we had to watch a lecture before every class. Grading is tough at first, but he eases up if you talk to him and show him you're putting in effort. Did all assignments except one as a group, even tests and final so choose wisely. Attendance isn't mandatory but definitely go.
BIO 1030 is tough fr. He does a flipped classroom - you teach yourself and take quizzes and then maybe talk in class. Lots of group projects. I failed a midterm but still managed to keep a decent grade bc group exams and lots of other grading opportunities.
Love this man, he's a delightful weirdo. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit, and the quizzes are great for studying. Make sure you study, his tests aren't easy, but if you put in effort you'll be fine. Attend the lectures, he gives a lot of info not on the powerpoints.
Best teacher! Very informative and a GREAT class to take. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.
What an absolute man right here. Literally the only class I have enjoyed coming to. Lectures are hilarious and a fun time. tests were based on lectures so you should come to every lecture, but he posted videos on every unit so you really dont have to. you have to study for his exams but they're definitely very doable
In short, Dr. Zanzot is the best professor at Auburn. He is caring, hilarious, and fun to learn from. He loves his honors students, and makes the class enjoyable and not stressful. Don't wait till the end to do projects and you'll be golden. Easy A. I hate I can't take him again. Go to office hours and get to know this awesome man.
One of my favorite professors at Auburn. 10/10 guy and 10/10 teacher. He is very straightforward, and if you study, easy A. Take him!
Dr. Zanzot is the GOAT. I had him for BIOL1027 also. His class material isn't easy by any means, but tests and projects are in groups in the Honors class. He does his best to make the class fun and not stressful. I'm really upset that I won't have him next semester. Lab kinda sucks in Organismal Bio, make sure you study HARD for the practicals.
I absolutely loved having Zanzot as a biol 1030 professor, all his lectures are online so if you miss a class you have the opportunity to see what you missed. The class is HEAVY memorization so you just need to buckle down and study more than what's on the study guide. But he's way better than the other profs for this course, 10/10.
Zanzot is honestly God sent. I was lucky to have him for 1020/1030 and wish he taught even more bio classes. I received and A but I defiantly put in the work. Going to the class is optional but helps a lot. He posts all his slides on Canvas and lectures on youtube and the youtube videos made studying for the tests so much easier! TAKE THIS MAN!
Dr. Zanzot makes the class easy. He gives a lot of assignments besides just exams to help your grade. He posts lecture videos on youtube which are super helpful for his exams. He doesn't make his exams hard so just study what he tells you to know.
Great at lectures. Posts all of them online, but attendance is a good idea but not required. I took him for BIOL 1020 and 1030 because I liked him so much. Tests are difficult but not hard if you put in the time. Lots of memorization, but that is because of the type of material being taught. Very helpful during office hours. Would 100% take again!
Zanzot is an amazing professor. Go to class for notes and group projects. TAKE THE PRE CLASS QUIZZES. These are easy grade bumps and help you understand the material. He is easily approachable and has great office hours. If you show up and show that you are working for your grade, he is more willing to help you. If you can, take him!
His class was interesting. He does a flipped classroom, so you watch lecture videos for homework and do activities in class. Tests are group tests, but all written. It's a fun class, especially if you have a good group, but not your standard class. He will give you back the level of attention and participation you give.
This man is a legend among men. I took him freshman year fall in 2018 and did not appreciate how good I had it with him. As a junior looking back, I would give anything to sit through his class again. He'll act tough, but that man is one of the kindest people I have ever met. You should be so lucky to have him teach you bio.
He is an AMAZING teacher!! Being online has made my grades drop since I have had to teach my self most of the material, but Zanzot does a great job of making class enjoyable over zoom. He did a lot of Kahoots in class, that were later posted on Canvas. If you go to class and put in study time outside of class you will get a good grade.
Dr. Zanzot is great!!! He prepares you for his exams and will tell you what you need to know. Yes, you have to put in some effort, but if you're willing to study, it's not difficult at all to get an A.
Take Zanzot!! He wants you to suceed and he is hilarious! His class is tough, the tests were rather rough but there are multiple weekly quizzes that can help your grade also a few extra credit assignments. I still have finals and one test left but hopefully will finish with an A. I have a high B now.
Zanzot is a true gem. The class requires lots of studying and the lectures are looooong, but it's all worth it. Also he is funny and has lots of animals lol. I highly recommend him for on level or honors bio, although I took honors.
tests weren't really on what we covered sometimes, but his zooms and recorded lectures were entertaining, GO TO SI sessions for his class, study hard
Dr. Zanzot is a great biology professor. He gives you 4 tests a year & a final with plenty of quick quizzes (2 attempts) that count for basically half your grade. Pretty hard tests but not if you study hard. He is impossible to reach over email so office hours are a must. 100% recommend if you are a STEM major and truly want to understand biology.
I took Zanzot twice and he has been my favorite professor by far, he has so many cool stories, and he makes the class interesting. Definitely take him for organismal biology, it is not the most interesting subject, but he makes the class really enjoyable and entertaining.
He never responds to emails, but as long as you understand the material you should pass. Sometimes what is asked is unclear and you might have to ask in class. You may also have to remind him to post things, most of the time he does not post things unless he is reminded.
He gave quizzes every Tuesday and Friday that were due by 5 pm and having those extra bonus points definitely was a reason why I got a good grade. At the end of the semester, he curves your grade super heavy that my grade went up 10% The only issue is if you email him he rarely responds, but he is open for office hours and is very friendly.
Dr. Zanzot is a great guy. His class has 3 tests, the 4th being included in the final. Homework quizzes twice a week (2 attempts). He makes the material interesting and is a great lecturer. He is very hard to reach on email, but usually replies to canvas messages. Im taking him again for BIOL1030!!
He seemed so nice on zoom but all my interactions with him outside of class were horrible. He rarely ever responded to emails, even when I was asking for clarification about something we were learning, and the times he did he was very rude. Also his Zooms were a waste of time bc we still had to watch the 50 minute lectures afterwards too. Mean man.
Even with BIOL 1020 online, Dr. Zanzot really made it clear he wanted his students to succeed. Frequent quizzes and lots of extra credit make it possible to get an A even though tests can be challenging. Zanzot is really funny and scales at the end of the semesterI would definitely recommend him for BIOL 1020!!
We just took our final and there was a lot of confusion because it is supposed to be proctored, but it wasn't. He then made another final that was proctored but then made an announcement that we can take whichever final we wanted. Realizing that it wasn't fair for everyone, he exempted everyone from the final. I highly recommend you take his class.
The tests were hard but he has really nice. Dont even try to email him though lol.
An angel among men! Dr. Zanzot really does care about his students. His class is hard but if you put in the work youll do good. take his class !
Overall great professor and would definitely take another one of his classes!
Dr. Zanzot is a great lecturer and great guy. Very lecture heavy with lots of notes but if you pay attention and participate this class is fairly easy. The jokes really make the class enjoyable. Hes very passionate about biology and cares about his students and their success in his courses.
Dr. Zanzot is an awesome professor who truly cares about his students. While this class can be tough, he gives you all the material and understandable lectures to help you succeed in the class. He also gives you multiple extra credit opportunities that help to boost your grade even more. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Zanzot for BIOL 1020.
Dr. Zanzot is great. Hes hilarious and I actually learned a lot in this class. I learned all of the information without worrying about my grade, because everything was explaining well and if the majority of the class wasnt doing well we would get a scale. Our final exam got messed up and he just dropped the whole grade. I finished with an A
Dr. Zanzot is a great teacher. If you listen to the lectures on YT and do the chapter objectives you'll be fine. He actually cares about his students and gives bonus points. He also tells very interesting stories.
Overall a great teacher. His quizzes are easy and straight from the lectures he posts. He is understanding and I am planning on taking him again in the Spring. Hes great def take him.
Zanzot was a great professor I tried to get him again but his class filled up in an hour. All in all if you watch the lectures and take notes youll be fine. He gives extra credit opportunities and curves the grades at the end of the semester. His tests arent easy but theyre doable if you study and youll be okay if you dont make an A on all.
Zanzot is amazing! I had things come up in the middle of the semester and he was very accommodating with the situation. I will be taking him again for BIOL 1030.
Dr. Zanzot is the best, his class is a little difficult but hes a really cool guy and offers extra credit. He was also very understanding about honorlock messing up on our final exam and ended up completely exempting it so it didnt tank peoples grade. take him!!!!!
BEST Biology Professor! Super understanding and funny. If you pay attention to the lectures and take notes you will do great.
His lectures were interesting and engaging and he takes the time to explain things to make sure you understand all the material. He does his best to make sure every student succeeds in his class. I would 100% take his class again. He also gives enough work to make sure you are learning but not so much that your drowning in extra assignments.
He was great and surprisingly funny I loved it
He is an amazing person and a good professor. Tests are difficult but if you study the learning objectives you will be fine. Not an easy A, but its possible. Posts lectures on youtube before class, so you can go at your own pace and then goes over the same material in class (its helpful to hear it twice). Overall hes hilarious and understanding.
Dr. Zanzot is such an amazing professor and he really cares about his students! He is super easy going and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit! I seriously recommend taking his class!
Zanzot is an amazing professor. Definitely take his class!! Even though the information is a lot and can be difficult, he explains it very well. If you go to class, study the learning objectives, and study for tests a couple days ahead you will be good. Love Professor Zanzot!
I think he did what he could considering the circumstances. I didn't know my grade the entire semester until the end. Do the pre-class quizzes and pay attention to what he says is important because it will be on the test. A lot of group stuff and time-wasting activities. He doesn't respond to 75% of emails either so go to office hours directly
amazing Professor that actually does care about his students. If you watch the lectures and do the learning objectives you will do well on the test. Final is very difficult though.
Dr. Zanzot was one of the best professors I've had. His tests were difficult, but not impossible. If you go to class and ask questions you'll be fine. It is very evident that he cares for his students and will be willing to help you if you're willing to put the work in for your grade. I would definitely recommend taking from him if you can!
I took Zanzot because he had amazing reviews, but online teaching is not his thing. Never responded to anyones emails, actual zoom class was us sitting in breakout rooms for an hour with him not even there, grades were never released in a timely manner. All that to say, he did scale everyones grade at the end so it didnt end badly after all.
I ended up getting an A in the end, but I honestly hated this class. If you take honors you will have 4 quizzes a week and a ton of lectures to watch. It's doable but he posts things late and expects you to turn things in with less than 24 hours notice. He also didn't let us see our grades until final grades were posted. Don't recommend online.
I really enjoyed Professor Zanzot's class. I highly recommend taking this class. He gives learning objectives for each of the chapters, which then serve as study guides for his exams. He gives multiple opportunities for extra credit and then also scales at the end of the year. His lectures were also entertaining and easy to follow.
By far one of the best professors I have had. Zanzot made it manageable and easy. He made zoom interesting with his humor. Class-wise, honestly felt like an easy A. He provides learning objectives, Kahoots, and allows you to look back over quizzes, which is pretty much the test. Strongly recommend for BIOL1020. Can't wait to have him for BIOL1030!
Dr. Zanzot is a chill professor who is very personable and makes his classes fun and interesting. Although attendance isnt required, its better if you attend his classes because he gives extra explanations about the subject matter. He gives some extra credit and doesnt assign a lot of homework. Overall, hes a great professor.
Dr. Zanzot was AMAZING. His exams were very hard, in my opinion. We had weekly quizzes to bump our grades which were very easy. He has office hours which you can go to and I highly recommend. Go to the SI sessions for additional help. I went to every session and did well in the class. Take him if you can. You will learn a lot.
Dr. Zanzot is a super cool professor and is very passionate about biology. His online class was flipped - we watched lectures outside of class and spent in-class time reviewing. The tests are pretty intense but he gives weekly quizzes that can help. A pretty solid dude
I love this class, although he is very disorganized. It has been a fun time in class this semester and he cracks a lot of jokes. However, the exams can be difficult, so make sure you actually study.
He does not lecture in class- it is all for you to do on your own time and quizzes on the lectures are due before the next class. Because of this, I almost never actually attended class. I learned the stuff through my SI leader and not Zanzot. The questions on the test were straight forward. He also does not answer emails. He is very likeable thoug
Dr. Zanzot is one of the best professors I've ever had. He cares about his students and really does everything in his power to make sure we understood the concepts. This class is a lot of information, but everything is given to you, so failing really is self-inflicted. Advice: focus on yourself in this class! Others can figure it out themselves!
Dr. Zanzot is one of the best profs at Auburn. His lectures are enjoyable and he also uploads his lectures on youtube which is a grade saver. If you memorize and understand the concepts, the tests are pretty straightforward and easy.
Dr. Zanzot is incredible. He gives great lectures and if you pay attention and study quizzes/quizlets he provides you will surely do well. He is hilarious and is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about this class, take him!
I didn't have a problem with Zanzot. A lot of people thought he was really funny. There are lots of lectures and quizzes, but you get to use your notes on the quizzes. He does make you work for your tests though, they're more difficult. He also gives lots of bonus points. Would definitely recommend taking from him.
Dr. Zanzot is a solid professor. He gives a lot of opportunities to boost your grade with easy quizzes and group projects. The tests are hard, but they don't count as large of a percent your grade as other classes. The one thing that is kind of annoying is that he does not put in your grades on Canvas, so you don't actually know how your doing.
I will always recommend Zanzot for BIOL 1020 and 1030 because not only is he a great professor, he makes class enjoyable and exciting. His class, in my opinion, is an easy A. Always make sure to go back over the quizzes, kahoots, and SLOs (can be long but they HELP) for tests, they are the keys to a good grade. Going to miss him so much, he rocks!
The GOAT of biology. Has a hilariously dry sense of humor that makes attending class a lot of fun. Personally I thought the material was mostly pretty boring, but Zanzot made it fun. Good luck getting into his classes before they're filled.
If you are taking him as an honors professor, don't. You have to watch up to 2+ hours of lectures before each class. 4 quizzes each week. He doesn't show your grade until the end of the semester because it's "not his job". All you do in class is Kahoots and Jeopardy games about the lectures. The exams are nothing like what we talk about in class.
If you were an AP/Honors student and did descent in your high school sciences, you'll be fine. Idk the last time I showed up to class, but make sure to watch his lectures online (they take some time) because that's what will help you pass. Zanzot sure is a character, so I like that better than a boring robot teacher.
Doctor Zanzot is my favorite professor I have had at Auburn. He is funny, kind, and a great lecturer. He is easily accessible and quick to answer emails. I took his honors course, but have heard his non-honors courses are taught just as well. I recommend this professor to every person taking a bio course.
Doesnt really teach the core material, and mainly relies on prerecorded lectures to teach, so be ready to teach yourself everything. He is a very nice person and has a good personality but going to his classes is a waste of time unless you like playing kahoot. If you like online learning, then the course isnt too hard.
Don't take the Honors option, he doesn't enter grades because it is "not his job" so you don't know what your grade is while in the class. Going to class is pointless because you do activities that don't pertain to the material at all. He has a large ego and is very disrespectful to students' time. The tests are not on what he tells you to study.
I took Zanzot for honors, and it has been very difficult to stay motivated. He hasn't entered any grades, so none of us know what we have in the class. Doesn't respond to emails until months later. Class is unnecessary bc you don't do anything related to bio. Zanzot is a good professor, just not my favorite for learning such a critical subject.
Definitely take Professor Zanzot! it is an easy class for sure, you just have to pay attention to his lectures, lecture video, etc. in order to pass his major exams because I will admit they are pretty hard but on the bright side he gives bonus points that will boost your grade up by the end of the semester :)
Zanzot is definitely a tough teacher. He does mostly Kahoot in class, so really focus on the lecture videos. He has quizzes every week that boost your grade and there are a couple bonus assignments that boost your grade too. Tests are very difficult.
Solid professor who is really funny. He isn't great about making office hours if you cannot go, and will sometimes forget your meeting. He is super smart, and tests only make up 55% of the class if you include the final. His tests are pretty tough but not impossible. He does one of those flipped classes that aren't great.
I did not like the setup of the class at all; You basically have to teach yourself the entire course through lecture videos. I did well in the class, but it was so stressful. He's a great guy, and is there to help, but the flipped classroom did not work for me. Classes didn't feel helpful, but he does offer extra credit and not terrible tests.
Literally don't take this class if you can. He is a smart professor but doesn't teach. The actual class time is pointless, and he is impossible to reach outside of his office hours or class. The "flipped lecture" is just you watching hours of his youtube page and taking a quiz before class. There is a fair amount of other grades than the tests.
Dr. Zanzot really loves and knows biology. His class is "flipped" so I wouldn't recommend it if you don't want to teach yourself the material. The material isn't super difficult and that was my saving grace this semester. Also he gives a lot of bonus. Not bad, not great either. He's a good guy and tries to appeal to the age of his students.
I liked Zanzot a lot! He really cares about you, and he wants your opinion on how things are going. He wasnt easy, but he has enough grades you can do poorly on exams (like C range) and be fine. Hes super funny, but there is a bit of work outside of class.
MWF classes, theres 3 homeworks due a week. read/watch a chapter and take notes, optional, but required comprehension quizzes after each reading that count as activity points at the end of the semester. do well on the quizzes, you'll get all the activity points. he's super fun to listen to for lectures, tries to get the whole class to have fun
Zanzot is definitely not the easiest bio teacher, but it will rlly help if you have to take more advanced sciences. Tests are HARD and it requires a lot of out of class work, but he gives sooo many easy points and bonuses. Plus hes really funny. A tough class, but I would 100% take if you want to actually gain something
Dr. Zanzot is nice and funny, but this is the hardest class I have ever taken. I emailed him 4 times over the semester and he never replied- GO TO OFFICE HOURS! The only thing that saved me were the SI sessions and studying for hours. Flipped classroom with hours of lecture videos... not fun. DOES NOT teach in class- complete waste of time to go.
Prof Zanzot is a solid choice for a biology class. He doesn't really do much lecturing in class but he still gives activities that help learn the material. He isn't a boring teacher that makes you dread going to class. Read the textbook and you'll be fine. His tests are pretty straight forward and gives a bunch of bonus opportunities.
One of the better biology teachers at auburn. He doesn't teach very much in class but has lecture videos to watch and take easy quizzes on. In class, he does kahoots and clarifies material. The quizzes are all online and you get 2 chances on them, the activities are easy, and the tests are mediocre. The textbook is really helpful to study!
If you do not have a natural aptitude towards science avoid at all costs. All lectures are on youtube and take hours to watch outside of class and he barely expounds on anything during class. He never responds to emails and tests are impossible to prepare for. If you take him you will regret it, but make sure to take all bonus possible. Hate.
Dr. Zanzot cares a lot about his students. The flipped lecture style wasnt my favorite, especially since we didnt seem to do a lot of learning in class, but if you watch the videos youll be fine. He gives a ton of extra points at the end of the semester if youve been consistent about your pre-class quizzes, so be sure to do well on those.
I personally did not enjoy this professor. He never lectured in class and expected us to watch all lectures on his youtube channel outside of class (3 per week - total of about 10-12 videos). In class we would do Kahoot. This was a large class and I never missed a class. Every time I went I was disappointed that I wasted my time going.
Took him in fall 2020 so definitely did not get the full experience, but he is a super nice guy who cares about you and your grade. While a lot of studying is needed, the class itself is fun. Zanzot is a great guy, but if you need to speak with him, meet him for office hours instead of sending him an email. He is awful at responding to emails
Zanzots class format is unlike anything Ive ever experienced. His class was held 3 days a week but no information was ever lectured to us. We were expected to watch his youtube channel before class (lecture videos that took hours to watch) and attend class just to play games like kahoot and jeopardy. I will say he offered extra credit at the end
Dr. Zanzot is a great professor and I'd definitely take him again. He's very funny and he keeps everyone intrigued and eager to learn during class. The class is a lot of work since you have to watch the lectures outside of class, but it's not too bad.
I took Dr. Zanzot twice and I loved him! If he taught more biology classes I would take him for everything I could. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He will work with you if you have any sort of issues. His tests are pretty straight forward if you study. By far one of my favorite professors at Auburn.
Zanzot is one of the best professors here in my opinion. I have had him for two biology classes and I seriously wish I could have him again. While the course does contain a lot of information, his tests are straight out of his lectures. He has so many different opportunities, projects, and bonuses to get your grade up and he's hilarious.
DR. ZANZOT IS AWESOME!!! Take him for any biology courses you can! Tests are EASY if you STUDY until you're SICK of the material! Know all of the information and you're golden! He's hilarious and is very knowledgeable on the subject.
Dr Zanzot is hilarious. I like the flipped classroom style, so if you dont like that I would take that into account. He gives a lot of extra credit and he draws a lot to help you understand. My only complaint is that some of the lecture videos were not always uploaded or in order, but if you tell him, he fixes it. Ended with an A
1030 is not the most interesting class, but Dr. Zanzot makes it more enjoyable. He gives so much extra credit at the end of the semester, it bumped by grade up a whole letter grade. He is very funny which makes class more entertaining. Definitely would recommend.
So hard. I only passed one of his tests, but I also know a lot of people that did well in this class. Pay attention in class and GO TO CLASS. He helps your grade a little at the end but its still not easy! A fun professor and really funny but I wouldn't necessarily suggest this class if you don't have to take it! lol organismal bio is not my thing
Dr. Zanzot is one of the best teachers in the Biology department. He makes his lectures fun and has a youtube channel that goes more in-depth about concepts if you are confused. Just study WAY in advance for his tests and you should be fine.
Dr. Zanzot is the coolest professor I have had so far at Auburn. His lectures are a little weird tho. They don't have a lot to do with the information we were learning. His exams were kinda difficult. There was so much information on each exam so it was hard studying for it all. All work is through his youtube channel. It makes notes much easier
Dr. Zanzot is one of my favorite professors and I think he will always be! He is so knowledgable and willing to explain anything, but I will say that his class is hard. You HAVE to study or else you will not do well. His exams are actually not too bad though but if you do not study you will very likely fail.
He does a flipped classroom style. Outside of class we had lectures to watch and quizzes online, then during class time we would review and do things like kahoot. I struggled with this because class time felt like a waste and there was lots of work to be done outside of class. I also am not great at science so this class just wasn't a good fit.
Flipped classroom style kinda sucks. But with the amount of free points from the quizzes and bonus he gives you can easily make a B. Nice guy just make sure to stay ahead of watching the lectures on youtube so you don't get behind. He also gives out plastic dinosaurs for participation which is awesome.
Its a flipped classroom so you watch the lectures at home and then in class is usually a review or a khoot to check for understanding. The tests are very hard and there is no study guide provided just a heavy emphasis on learning objectives. SI support does help. Overall a good class but be prepared to study and do lots of work outside class
(For Biology 1020) He wastes time in class and doesn't teach, but his online lectures are great. I have an A in his class but I know a good amount of people with C's and B's. If you really want to learn the material for later classes I would take his class and sweat up on the online lectures. He also gives lots of extra credit at end of semester.
Professor Zanzot is my favorite professor I have ever had. He really cares about his students and will meet one on one with students if needed. He uses a flipped classroom which is not ideal, but it allows you to re-watch lectures and ensure you have all the information. Best Biology 1020/1027 teacher, take his class if you can.
I did not like Zanzot at all. I was recommended his class b/c of his humor, but I didnt learn anything all semester. You can keep your grade up with quizzes but all of his lectures are hours of videos on youtube from years ago, and his in person lectures are nothing helpful to the topic youre learning so you rely on LAs. Has dog office hours tho.
Dr. Zanzot is a fun, caring professor but I dont like the flipped classroom. You have to watch the videos before class which gets exhausting bc there multiple videos that are almost 20 mins each. You basically have to teach yourself and if you dont have a study method or find one tests will be difficult. Going to class felt like a waste.
Tests do not relate to lectures. Refuses to lecture in class. I get that it is flipped but every other professor I have had will still lecture SOME in class. One of maybe 3 lectures was about gender/ race politics in science and how white men are bad. Class started with 200+ in lectures, maybe 50 bother to come to lecture at this point.
Zanzot is the best professor ever! He is the funniest guy ever and I really enjoyed taking his class. He is also extremely helpful if you are confused about anything and you can tell he really wants his students to succeed. Great teacher and great guy overall. Highly recommend.
I really like Professor Zanzot as a person, just not really as a professor. His exams are very difficult and he has a flipped classroom learning style that sometimes makes it seem like you came to class for no reason.
I liked having Dr. Zanzot as my professor this semester! He is really nice and wants you to succeed in his class. He does have a flipped classroom style, so in-person lectures mainly just consisted of Kahoot and review. The tests weren't terrible, just go to SI and read the textbook for extra help and you should be fine!
He uses a flipped classroom- class is only used for kahoots which are posted. The tests are very straightforward but incredibly specific. However long you think you need to study, double that and you'll be ok. Doesn't answer emails and seems to have a bit of a God complex. The class is hard but I've heard he's one of the better options honestly.
this is a flipped classroom and his lectures are pretty pointless. exams can be pretty difficult and you need to study ALOT for them, but if you do all the homework you should be able to get a good grade. he offers alot of extra credit and will round very generously but only if you do all or most of the the homework (all the answers are on quizlet)
It is very hard to fail this class. It is also very hard to make an A, but as long as you watch his lecture videos on his youtube channel and take notes everything is good. Going to class is useless unless it's a Kahoot day (usually friday) - pay attention to these bc they usually have test Q's or Q's like the test. Best teacher for Bio 1020 at AU.
Dr. Zanzot is a good professor and his lectures are very accessible. He does a flipped classroom, though, so the class will take extra time outside of meeting times. Tests are not too hard. Dr. Zanzot offers extra credit throughout the semester. Stay on schedule and on top of work. Go to class, it's a little waste of time but some good review.
Dr. Zanzot is a great person just not my favorite teacher. 30+ min lecture videos on your own before class and then in class he doesn't teach. Pre-class quizzes help your grade. Test aren't horrible but still difficult. You can achieve in this class but it requires lots of work. NEVER responds to emails. Group project is easy.
Flipped classroom style but when in the lectures you don't actually do anything. He didn't seem to care about teaching whatsoever. Doesn't answer his emails. Kind of funny and gives you a lot of opportunity for easy points but it was pretty difficult to actually learn anything.
I don't recommend him for biol 1020. If you want an easy A, take a different professor. His exams were very hard and the averages were always near, or at failing (final's avg was a 64). He doesn't curve or scale any of the exams. He adds bonus at the end, but a lot of people's grades dropped a letter from the final. Would recommend for 1030 though.
Dr. Zanzot had a flipped classroom style. I did not skip one class but half of the classes are a waste of time. His tests are doable and he is helpful in office hours. I probably would have taken a different professor because they may not have wasted my time.
Absolutely LOVE him! If you are taking biology, take him! He is funny and the whole class is completing a sketchbook that can replace your lowest test grade with a 100 at the end of the year. If you study for the tests, you should be fine; there is just a lot of info to memorize. He really wants you to do well in the class so bonus is available! ;)
This was a flipped classroom, so we were expected to watch our lectures outside of class and bring our sketchbooks to diagram the organisms we learned about. The class is hard and it's not Zanzot's fault. He wants to help you out as much as he can while keeping it fair. He's super understanding and hilarious as well. TONS of extra credit.
This is a flipped classroom which may not be appealing to some, but I can genuinely say that this was one of my favorite classes I have taken. He is hilarious in class and offers lots of bonus. The class still takes work, but he gives you all the resources to succeed.
Zanzot is a dream. Tests are straightforward, he delivers course material in a way that is fun and understandable, and occasionally will make kahoots to play in class (these are really helpful for studying). There is also plenty of extra credit given out. One of my favorite professors for sure.
He has a flipped class where all lecture videos are online which I liked. To be honest I barely went to class. His tests are multiple choice and not very difficult. Cool guy, genuinely cares about biology.
if you take notes, attend SI, and do the kahoots, you will be fine.
Dr. Zanzot is an odd man but is nice overall. His class is a flipped style, meaning you will have to watch lectures outside of class. Going to class was sometimes pointless or unrelated to our learning. His exams are VERY difficult. I recommend going to SI, office hrs, and completing the Kahoots from class. His class and the lab will not correlate.
His class is a flipped classroom, so expect to spend a lot of time on videos outside of class. Other than that, I loved his class. He gives extra credit, and you play a lot of kahoot in class.
Dr. Zanzot cares about his class and his students. The class is in a flipped format, meaning you review the lectures before class. Although he does not take attendance in lectures, he does drop hints on what is on his tests. Also, there are two quizzes a week, which you can retake twice and help your grade a ton, some of the questions are on exams.
Flipped classroom! If you don't do well learning on your own, don't take this class. Other than that, Zanzot is super nice. Tests are difficult, but there is extra credit at the end of the semester.
Dr. Zanzot teaching style is reversed learning, so you watch video lectures at home. Which I didn't like since it makes it easy to get behind. In class we mostly did kahoots which were posted in his modules so coming to class isnt crucial. He does give extra credit at the end. The test are hard and you have to understand the topic to do well.
Dr. Zanzot doesn't respond to emails, but is a great teacher. We have a term group project which is stressful, but overall this class is so easy. I don't know a singe person in my class who didn't get an A. I literally failed two exams and still got an A. So much extra credit and the pre class quizzes are easy. Come to class for notes. He's great.
Dr. Zanzot is a great professor. He really loves the material he teaches and that is evident in his lectures. Super knowledgable and very understanding with questions. Quite funny at times as well. His grading criteria is not very clear but honestly it is difficult to not succeed in his class as long as you put in reasonable effort.
Does a flipped classroom, which I think works well for biology. Very funny guy who cares a lot about biology (even leads a yearly study abroad trip to Costa Rica). Tests are multiple choice (test 2 has the most material). Watch the lecture videos and attend SI sessions for best performance.
Professor Zanzot's class uses a flipped classroom model, so expect to watch a lot of video lectures outside of class. The in-class Kahoots can feel like a waste of time, but engaging with the content through the videos and office hours will help on the challenging exams. unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for study prep.
He does use a flipped classroom, which requires a lot of outside work to understand the class well. His class times are sometimes helpful, sometimes not. You have to be motivated and put in the work to understand concepts, but his tests are typically pretty straightforward and not meant to trick you.
He literally only does lectures online. Its annoying and honestly not helpful. Going to class is dumb because you talk about the weigh of a cloud and the auburn tiger. Overall good class but tests are tricky.
This class WILL hurt you. Average exam scores were high 60s. The secret to getting an A is just putting in the effort, attending class, watching the lecture videos (see other reviews), and studying the Kahoots before exams. His lectures can be odd at times, but he has excellent humor and covers interesting topics that relate to the coursework.
Class is a flipped class, so you will have to spend a lot of time doing work outside of the classroom. Tests are very difficult and takes a lot of studying.
I liked him a lot as a person! It is a flipped classroom which was difficult for me personally however all we ever really did in class was kahoots so that was good review, I recommend!
This class is a reverse classroom setup meaning you will spend lots of time outside of class watching lecture videos he created. In class, I expected to debrief these lectures but felt that class time was spent talking about more random topics. Overall, lots of extra credit is offered and students end up with solid grades.
Zanzot is a great teacher who loves his subject! Flipped classroom meant lectures and quizzes as HW, then kahoots in class. Tests are a lot of info but he gives clear expectations of what to study. Group project was structured so we weren't scrambling to finish it. Emailed him twice and he responded fast. Rounded my 89.7 up to an A when asked!
Dr. Zanzot uses a reverse classroom setup, which isn't for everyone. Lecture videos are homework and we talk about the lectures and do Kahoots in class. As long as you keep up with the videos and go to around 80% of the lectures, you should do fine. He's hilarious, and I've never heard someone say they didn't like him or his course.
Dr. Zanzot is absolutely hilarious and incredibly intelligent about biology. He does a flipped classroom, so you basically have to teach yourself with his lecture videos, which is not my favorite. Class is very optional. We literally just played Kahoots. The exams can be pretty tough, especially the 2nd one, but he does give helpful extra credit.
