He assigns too much work. Every week some large assignment is due, and the directions are usually unclear until the class before it's due. He's hard to reach by e-mail or his office hours, since he hasn't been in his office during office hours when I've tried to reach him. He gives detailed instructions on how to study for tests only if you hunt him down- how do we know to study outside sources for his quizzes if he doesn't tell us? Be careful when signing up for his class. He'll keep you very busy.

I would never again take a class with Zenes. He assigns SO MUCH work! And it's never a small assignment. He expects you to read outside sources. On tests and quizzes, he'll ask for information that he either did not teach or was not in the reading. The only good thing I do have to say is that he does know his history and is not boring during lectures. You can ask him questions during class, and he'll answer him completely. Just don't try to contact him outside of class. It's quite difficult.
