He is a good professor. He goes through every math problems in class. He clearly explains every steps, and makes it easier to understand. He's funny. I like his class.
best math teacher
Pretty good teacher. Precise, pretty clear with what he says. Understanding and fair with grading. A must teacher if you're walking up the ladder of mathematics.
a very nice guy. extremely helpful teacher. easy 'A'. most of the problems on the exam are from the review sheet he gave. His lectures are very clear.
If you are intimidated by math, this is your guy. Friendly, very helpful, enthusiastic, and doesn't make you feel stupid for not "getting it". The homework assigned is not overwhelming and is gone over in class the following day, so if you show up, you can get an A in this class.
much respect to Jamey. He is a very humble and patient man that could teach you in a simple yet clear way. he also has a good sense of humor and will definitely make math more interesting. i recommend everyone who is struggling to pass math 860 to add his class.
Freaking great teacher, snag him if you can! I loath algebra, but this semester was great! Explains everything clearly, takes time to make sure everyone is on the same page and if you come to his office hours, he will give you superb one on one help! By far the best Math teacher I've had! He loves what he does!
Jamey is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He's friendly, approachable and intelligent, and he has great enthusiasm for mathematics, which is particularly evident in the higher-division courses. Tests are relatively easy if you study the material and go to office hours when you're stuck. Besides 130, I've taken 110B and 110C with him.
BEST Math Teacher EVER. Great lecturer, he explains everything very clearly. He encourages the class to ask questions. We had online hw, and that was really helpful for me. I've never had a professor who was this easy to understand. I'm talkin crystal clear. I've always had trouble with math, but Jamey Bass makes learning easy.
I really like this guy. He's patient, helpful, and approachable. I've never liked going to math class so much! He's also pretty easy on the eyes! ;)
Jamey's the best teacher I have ever had. He's super nice, helpful, patient and very clear in lectures. He's sometimes disorganized. Going to his office hours really helps. Tests cover the materials thoroughly. Grading is fair. He gives partial credit and a lot of extra credit problems.
Very down to earth, funny and extremely helpful.
Wow!What an upstanding young math teacher.Goes above and beyond the call of duty.Way above.Just a very reasonable and kind hearted person.I wish I could just have him teach me all about the world, like Plato did with Aristotle. What a pleasure it was to have met such a sane and good soul ~
Great teacher! I never understood Calc but Professor Bass explains it so well. He gives practice tests and has a lot of office hours. Great teacher, fun, and makes your feel comfortable with calc.
He is definetly the best teacher I have EVER had in my life. Super nice, funny, and enthusiastic. He is so kind and happy to help people. Recommend!!! I took him in my 1st semster at CCSF, he helped me and influenced me a lot. So i am taking his class again. Recommend!!! You will never regret taking him, trust me!
For me, this class was extremely easy, which made it boring. Jamey is a passionate teacher, but he doesn't expect that much of his students. For example: when people asked completely obvious questions, he'd take the time to answer in full, when really they could have figured it out on their own. Grade is based off of two midterms and a final.
Awesome teacher! Highly recommend this teacher!
Jamey is SUCH a nice guy!!! I'm taking his class right now and I'm really enjoy going to class. I'm very weak in math, so I have a hard time understanding half the material. Fortunately, he's very good with writing things on the board, so I'm surviving. He's been very patient with me. I wish him all the best. :) The world needs more Jameys!
I've taken multiple classes with Jamey. He's a great teacher. His lectures are clear and he's always willing to help you. He makes himself available outside of class to answer questions.
Goes extremely fast in lectures. Quizzes are based off the HW. Two Exams and a Final which are relatively easy and straight-forward. SOME-what helpful in office hours. Do the HW, understand 80% of the material and do the extra credit= A. He has a tendency to stress students out by showing difficult problems. Highly recommend him. :)
Brilliant Prof. He knows his stuff. Lots of great information in his head. Attend class and do your homework, you will be fine.
I took Jamey's Math110C and 120. I will not say it's extremely easy to get an A, but if you attend his class, finish all HW questions, most importantly, take advantage of his office hours and ask questions, you will get the grade you desire.
He's a nice guy and can be helpful during office hours however, I've noticed he has a tendency to favor certain students over others and kind of lacks empathy for his students.
Great teacher. If you have the opportunity to take him, do it! Very clear explanations has plenty of office hours to help students. Goes out of his way to make sure all students understand. 3 tests the whole year and thats it. Hes also funny and nice
Jamey is an awesome dude that really knows his stuff. Math 130 is a challenging course to take, and I imagine it's just as difficult to teach, but he really helps everyone to understand the material. Do the homework, go to office hours and bust your ass and you'll get a good grade.
Jamey is definitely one of the best teachers I have had at CCSF. He is passionately, funny, clear, and understanding. He has a ton of office hours to help students and is always willing to explain in many different ways. He is very clear with his explanations and really knows his stuff. Besides being a great teacher he is a great cool guy
Tests was pretty easy if you study the study guide and do your homework. Only thing I didn't like about him was his teaching style in class. It was hard to understand the stuff he teach in class. During his office hours he's really clear. Final is easy. If you take him go to his office hours. He's hard in class because he skips steps overall hes ok
Don't take him for 110C
I actually gave him a very good review for 110B. But you should stay way from him for 110C. He makes this class a living nightmare. This class is like graduate level. He definitely over does this class and doesn't realize it. Should be banned from teaching 110C. Although excellent Professor for 110A and 110B!
The tests are take home tests. It took you about 14 hours to finish it! So difficult! I don't understand why people rate him so good. Maybe his other classes are easy, but don't take his 110C! He can understand the subject well, but you often need to wait for an hour for just one question. Sometimes he is not willing to help!
Jamey knows his stuff but he writes so fast that I am too busy focusing on trying to get what's on the board than actually listening to the lecture. He's a very cool, funny, and chill teacher.
Awesome professor. He has a real passion for mathematics. First time I have ever liked doing math, and that is coming from somebody dreading going into a calculus class. He also has a very keen way of relating mathematicians to the work at hand, meaning he does go off on tangents sometimes, but are relevant. Drinking hour at the end of the class.
Hardest teacher ever. All the grade are base on exams And he teach too fast He is not easy at all people who are good in math will be easy.
Great teacher, very helpful, stud.
Awesome professor, he genuinly cares about mathematics and tries his best to interest his students. Jamey is exactly what you need if your finding professors robotic in nature. He is extremely easy going and usually grades the class as a whole, if a lot of students don't understand something he doesn't penalize you for it. A+ professor for sure.
A fashion within STEM education is that professors attempt to weed out students with set backs, but not Jamey Bass. He's a gem of a professor and aims to guide his students to the finish line. He's humble, but it's obvious he knows much.
Jamey is super awesome! I took him for Calc 1 and Calc 3. He explains the material very well, and like when students ask questions, so if you're stuck, just ASK, even if you think it's stupid. I advice on doing ALL of the hw, since 75% of the tests are right off the hw. He says that time and time again. He curves A LOT too!
Bass is cool, knows a lot of math, and is dedicated. Overall good experience, tests are 100% of grade, final is 40% of grade. He often curves very generously. Material was based almost totally from the textbook and attendance is not mandatory. You can just study yourself and take the tests. Ch 15 and 16 were hard and CCSF doesn't have enough time.
Best teacher ever!
Jamey is an awesome math teacher! He treats his students like college students and not like high schoolers. Take Mr. Bass for any math class!
Jamey is an exceptional professor, and easily the best math teacher I've had. Quick tip: he's generous with partial credit, so practice the homework as if you're scrounging for partial credit on the exams. (Exams determined our entire grade.)
The best instructor I took so far. Easy to talk to, very friendly, very funny makes the class enjoyable!
Im 2 weeks into the semester and Jamey is incredible. He has so much patience and never makes a student feel bad for asking a question hes already gone over. He explains the concepts well and reviews the hw (not for credit) daily. Also, hes super attractive! Love going to class and talking to him! Add his class!
Jamey is one of the best professors at CCSF and still on my top list of professors since I have transferred. He is genuine and easy to approach if you ever feel stuck. He will never be condescending towards students. If I could I would take his classes again! I am so glad I was able to get my foundation calculus learning at CCSF with Jamey!
Super great professor at CCSF. Every day is a useful lecture, attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss more than a few classes it's a little tough to get back in the groove. He's easy to reach outside of class and by email. He really wants to make sure you succeed in the class, it's smart to build a relationship with him so he knows you're there
This class is very fast paced but reasonable and doable. There is a lot of problem solving but if you do them you'll be fine. Very fun and rewarding class. The prof is very easy to work with, a great teacher.
Bass is no "easy A" teacher, but he makes up for it by being very a nice guy. Tests have at least 50% hrk problems from the actual book, so you can ace the class solely on doing book problems. Also curves VERY generously which really saves your grade. Show him the respect he deserves cause he WANTS you to do well!
Jamey is a great instructor and so good I felt my academic background wasn't strong enough to handle his lectures. He lectures really fast so if you don't understand something ask him (he's nice). Beware of related rates and optimization. He gives lots of hw. You'll learn a lot but imo is not worth the stress. I finished his summer course (2018).
Took his Calc I class during summer. The HW he assigns are optional. If you don't understand the HW, you can ask him next class or via email. Grade is 2 midterms (each 30% of grade) and a final (40%). At least half of each exam's problems are HW problems. The final answer doesn't need to be simplified. He's great! His catchphrase is "How we doing?"
HOW WE DOING?
He teaches really well but goes really fast, so If you don't understand something take a picture of it or interrupt him. Beware of optimization and related rates, but don't stress too much about it, and I bombed the 2nd test and that resulted in a B in the class because I focused on it too much. Overall I would take him again.
I took his summer course and I knew what I was in for. It went by blazing fast and I can't fault him due to short time we had. He's an amazing lecturer, but I think the limited time made it difficult to keep up overall. Lots of homework that isn't graded, but do them! He takes half of them for exams and curves generously.
The best. Take him. Be ready to work. Coolest professor ever.
Unless you feel that you could teach yourself Calc 3, then I would avoid this teacher. Hes a nice guy, but goes so fast taking notes is impossible, he usually makes mistakes in his notes which messes up the lesson, and he doesnt give any help at all for exams. Exams are dense and cant be finished in time. Final is 40% of grade.
If want to learn something out of this class and pass, do to the homework because most of the exams is based from homework and how much you practice to understand the subject. Though its a very fast paced class, it's very understandable cause it math130, but overall he's a really cool Professor!
He is a fantastic teacher, however he teaches extremely fast and will sometimes skip steps. Three exams and a final, usually around 6-10 questions for each exam. Homework isnt graded, im terrible in math and still managed to do pretty good, but seriously, he teaches very fast.
Jamey always makes jokes in his lectures. He does takes attendance for like first two weeks, and he doesn't totally care at all for the rest of the semester. You do have the homework, but you don't need to turn them in. But the questions on the exams include at least 50%, usually 75%, sometimes 100% from the homework. Really flexible in grading.
This class was ridiculously difficult. Real averages on exams are near failing but he curves it so that people will pass. Jamey knows what he is teaching very well but goes WAYYY too fast be prepared to take pics of the board. 3 exams and a final which he says is at least 50% of hw problems.
Mr. Bass is definitely the best math prof I've had at city, he goes a little fast so being there at lecture is very important. He is very good at applying math to every day things which makes lecture more understandable and interesting. Be sure to go to his office hours if you do not understand something, he will always reach out and help.
Jamey is a great professor in that you can tell he's tried a lot of different teaching methods and figured out what he believes is the correct way to teach. Hw is for practice, not scores. Tests are the only grades given, but if you do all the hw, then the test is easy. Tests consist of hw problems, so they will be familiar. Do the hw and you pass
I took his Clac2 online class and regretted. You have to study on your own because his online videos are useless and don't cover the whole material. expect to study on your own if you really want to understand the material, and make sure you don't fall behind because of that. i won't take his online class again. He curves the tests just to be fair.
Struggled throughout the semester. Got a D in an exam but did well on the final as it is worth 40% so I got an A overall. Don't give up after one exam. Office hours are very beneficial. Ask questions after every exam or before and you will pass.
Online calc 2. Super nice guy, he really wants you to suceed. Assigns a lot of homework but it's optional (exams mainly are based on the homework). Test averages were low but he curves generously!! I got an A but I spent nearly 2 hours almost everyday doing problems, and btw, there aren't really lectures, just short videos. Prepare to work hard.
Jamey is super nice and straightforward with assignments. Every week we're required to ask/answer a question for discussion and submit one detailed solution from the week's homework set. The midterm was 12 questions and we had 2 days to complete it. The final was 10 questions. Tests were difficult but doing the homework is good preparation.
Took his online Calculus 2 class this fall. Very chill. Youre only required to submit a pic of your answer for ONE homework problem each week (I recommend you do most or all because it helps ALOT for test prep).I also recommend watching more in depth outside YouTube videos of the topics to gain better understanding & fill in gaps of the material.
The best math teacher Ive ever had. Jamey has excellent lectures and answers questions during office hours and in forum. Needed to submit one solution for homework and participate in a forum once a week. Exams are heavily based on HW, but are hard as hell.
Professor Bass is an amazing teacher! He is passionate about the material and very responsive to email, discussion forums, and office hours. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. His exams are VERY difficult but based on HW questions(STUDY A LOT). He applies a generous curve. The summer 110B is NO JOKE! Be prepared to work HARD!
This is the most intensive summer math class I've ever taken. Prof. Jamey is not an easy grader; you'll lose points in your work if your explanation is not adequate by his standard. Anticipate tons of homework every week in summer. Mid-term and final are difficult, but it's based on your homework. He will curve the exams.
He's very friendly and caring as he offers a ton of office hours and is willing to help you as a student to learn and improve your skills in Calculus. The homework can at times, be a bit too much, however, the homework does prepare you for the exams as the questions are similar to the homework.
I took pre-calc(in-person) and calc 2(online) from Professor Bass and he is awesome!! He is a great lecturer and super accessible outside of class hours and his online lectures are just as detailed. 100/10 recommend. He is super funny and supportive
Jamey is an all-star math teacher. I took him for 110B and 130, and I learned more from him than any other math teacher. He breaks down the concepts into easily digestible chunks and makes you a smarter person. The midterms are hard but fair.
Professor Bass is willing to put in the effort to see his students succeed. He always has office hours dedicated to students and gets a bit sad when no one attends. However, his material and the way he teaches is great as it's up to you as a student to prepare for exams. Although his videos may not be informative his exams are based on textbook q's
He is a good professor but his test are really hard but curves it. He knows if you use chegg or any similar website. He does care and is available outside of class. In order to succeed in his class then you must really know your stuff from calculus 1 and calculus 2. All hw is on textbook but test harder than hw but similar. Good luck and study ALOT
In-person/online hybrid class; much of your time will be spent cranking out problems because, yes, he did assign many of them - do not neglect the 70+ integrals. Expect a difficult midterm and final that dictates 80% of your grade, but they were based on homework, were curved, and he did solve student-requested problems during in-person meetings.
He assigns a lot of homework so as long as you do the homework, you will do well on this class. Chapter quizzes is homework based and 5-7 questions. We only have to show up in-person to take midterm and final exam. Midterm had 8 questions, final exam 12 question but they're based on the whole material, it can be hard if you forgot.
He is really good professor. Tests are heavy. Midterm is worth 30% of your grade and final is 50% of your grade. He gives a lot of homework. The more you do homework, the easier the test. I will take him again in Math 110C.
Just like for math in general, please do all the homework you can, the more homework you do the better your grade will turn out to be, he is a lenient grader that curves exams, but the questions on the exams will be fairly complex and straight out of the textbook mostly. So please do the homework consistently and daily.20 hours a week on homework.
He assigns way too much homework per week. It's hard to finish all of it if work full time while still taking other classes online. Exams are in person on Ocean or Chinatown location. Exams are no longer than 10-14 questions but they are difficult, especially if you dont complete all of the homework.
Calculus III is a rough course, a quantum leap. Jamey is easily the best professor at CCSF. Only Jessica Masters comes close. He's extremely intelligent, humble, supportive, and always went out of his way to help me piece things together. He sees big, broad connections. You may not appreciate him during the course stress as much as you will after.
Great teacher. Exams are 70% of your final grade but are heavily curved. The class is not easy and has a lot of homework, but professor Bass is very understanding of this and is a generous grader. Highly recommend.
He is very nice but the midterm is 30% and the final is 50% of your grade. There is SO much work, it's easy to fall behind. His lectures are just mini videos and while he does go through examples, they are much simpler ones compared to the ones assigned for homework. Overall, I fell behind and it was impossible to catch up.
Prof. Bass is passionate. Something like 70% of the Math110B grade will be based on the midterm and final (the only tests). They are intentionally difficult - he is grading you on your ability to solve the problem, not necessarily get it right. Strong curve. He likes questions and sometimes you need to call him out for oversimplifying things.
Get ready to learn online. Homework matters and make sure you're caught up.
Grading policy won't let you pass the class unless you can do well on solving 10 big problems in less than 5 hours on the exams. There is no knowledge check with quizzes. There should be assignments that are digestable... besides homeworks. Midterm is 30% and final is 50%... You are limited with 5 hours to complete the exam.
There's a lot of work, yet very doable. My tip is to do homework regularly, and you will be okay. Jamey is one of the best math professors I have ever seen.
Midterm and Final are very difficult, but there's a generous curve. Highly recommend if you're self-driven to read and learn outside of lectures. I took Math 130 online and highly recommend it if you're looking for more flexibility.
Was initially scared of taking Calc 2 and was extremely happy ending up with an A. Jamey's class can be very manageable and understandable as long you're willing to put in the work. His tests are fair if you understand the concepts and gives a very generous curve. On top of his lectures, watch professor Leonard on YouTube and do HW problems!
First of all his lecture videos are all over the place. Take Jamey Bass if you are motivated enough to glue your eyes into the textbook for any meaningful information. Be ready to flip through textbook examples or random timestamps on his videos on how to write your solutions. He is overall a very knowledgably and relatively easy to understand.
