young good guy. good prof. cares about students. recommended.
good teacher! young guy, really helpful! very approachable and likes to somewhat go off on a tangent. really good! recommended! I think he knows physics, chem, and computing science as well as math so he's well rounded!
Awesome teacher
Very good prof. Notes are great and clear. Answers all questions well. Extremely interested in topics.
Jamie was great. He totally clarified anything that you could notunderstand. He was non-intimidating and was just simply a great professor.
nice guy, awesome organized notes, willing to help students if needed. teacher recomended
Jamie is a super nice guy, very approachable, helpful, and his midterms aren't too hard. I'm not doing too well but that's b/c I do not like math but that's nothing to do with him. Would highly recommend!
best prof @ SFU!!
After a harsh first semester this guy was like a breath of fresh air. He's always there for extra help and has the clearest notes that I've seen so far. I went in thinking that, since he was young, he wouldn't be so great but that couldn't be less true.
Very good notes, organization. Exams are fair. Assignments are long but help you out a lot if you do them. Always one or two questions from the HW on midterms and final. Make sure you attend class to fill in the notes he provides. Otherwise they're kinda useless.
JAMIE ROCKS!!!!!! THE BEST MATH PROF @ SFU!!!! good notes, good exams and final is not that hard as long as you study=)
He's one of the best prof ever(along with Keshav Mukunda who taught me Math 151)at SFU! His note is clear and helpful as long as you attend the class and copy down those examples. His exams are fair enough. Assignments are quite much but those will help you in the exams. He's willing to help students and ya he's hot LOL I barely missed his lecture.
A truly excellent teacher. I really wish other professors would put the attention to detail that Jamie does. Notes are excellent and he is always there whenever you need help. His level teaching should truly be the standard.
Jamie is a fantastic prof; heads and shoulders about the other professor's I've had at SFU so far. He's always willing to help out, and he keeps things interesting by using examples and graphics along with the lecture material. He's also always available during office hours (and doesn't mind staying late if need be). Thanks Dr. Mulholland!
Dr. Jamie is an excellent prof. His notes are very clear. Love his notes! I love his way of teaching and he's very helpful at all times. If you do your review packages and attend every class, you won't have any problems receiving good marks on midterms and finals :D Very nice guy! Hope I have him in my other math classes in the future.
In all honesty, the best professor I've ever had at SFU. Very helpful, respectful, approachable, knowledgeable. I personally liked his personality and sense of humour, which kept me going during lectures (it is still Math, after all). Midterms are fair, as a few questions that were on the review package end up on the test. Take Math with him!
awesome prof. best so far.
Super duper prof!!! Long assignments but what do you expect from Math. Explains material thoroughly EVERY single class! The final exam got me, definitely practice ALL the sample exams he posts up.
Had Dr. Mulholland for Math 152. Damn just 350 words just arent enough to describe how awesome he is LOL. Hope he teaches MATH 310=)
What most Math profs are missing is the fact they don't teach the reasonings behind using this & that formulas, or why it works. This professor, Mulholland, however, does that, and greatly enhances the class' & my understanding for math. Calc 150 was made out to be a lot easier than it really is because of that key ingredient in his teaching.
BEST PROF i've ever had at SFU. first time commenting on here which shows how good of a prof he is! notes are very clear! exams are easy, just study his past midterms/exams. SO much better than other math profs! however, this course was very time consuming but worth it. I actually understood everything he taught us.
great
He is the best of the best Prof I have met so far in sfu....This course is tough since it's a MATH(Calculus) class but if you do your paper assignment/Loncapa, and attend calculus workshop you will probably pass this class foshooo
Both midterms so far have simply been either basic questions covered in the text book (if you read it, you got it) or variations of homework questions. No proofs at all, simply applications of linear algebra. Easy A, if you read the text book and understand the homework questions.
If every Prof was this good, I'd never leave school. Amazing clarity. Extremely helpful and patient. GREAT prof.
very clear... i'd say attend the lectures cuz it helps a lot... he posts videos online but then it might not be him teaching and the words are harder to see... he's very chill too! he made math interesting for me...
Excellent Prof. very nice and great in explaining the concepts. Have assignments AND online assignments to hand in every week, which was very exhausting but great for practice. Love the online videos, which is great if you missed lectures. just try and you'll do fine
Excellent teacher. Explains concepts fully and always there to lend a hand at the workshop.
Only good if you have never taken Calculus before (ie: you didn't take it in high school) otherwise his lectures and the little details will bore you every class.
AWESOME prof. I recommend him to everyone taking calculus. HE REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF and + HE CAN TEACH very well. Probably one of the best profs here at SFU!!! VERY FAIR!
Wow, What a great prof, I had no interest in Calculus before taking this course and was very nervous comming into the class. He has been such a great teacher it has sparked my interest in math. Very straight forward, Very interesting, and very helpful. The tests are not easy but very fair. Best Prof I have had!!!
What a great prof! You are in good hands if he's teaching you!
Simply amazing! Dr. Mulholland is by far the best math professor I've had. Exams are very fair (not easy though). He made coming to 8:30 lectures enjoyable and always kept the class entertained by telling jokes. He also applied concepts to real life so that they were easier to understand. If you need to take a math course, take it with him!
best prof ever
Best prof ever!! explanations and notes were super clear. fair midterms and finals but lots of hw. in addition, he's still willing to help students in math courses after 152!! who can ask for a better prof??
Extremely helpful and clear prof. His midterms are similar to the practice ones, but the textbook "hard" examples are a good prep. His notes are amazing and clear and he is always willing to help out students in the workshops. Great prof for first year calc students!
BEST MATH PROF EVER!
Best math prof ever!!
Overall good prof. He taught rubiks cube in high interest level. Lec are not that boring as usual math courses. Fair exams and hw.
great teacher!!!!
He is a very helpful teacher, and he loves what he does. I will take any math course that I can with him.
He was awesome, and so nice! He class was pretty hard tho, but its college calculus, thats expected!
unlike all math teachers he has a very king manner.
Chill Tom Hanks look-alike
great prof!!
He's a pretty good prof. He's great at motivating problems and explaining concepts and examples in class. His exams are on the whole pretty fair. It is expected that you delve deeper into the material to get a better understanding if you want to get a decent grade in this class though!
Best Math prof I've had. Fair tests, the course is very structured, and he goes to lengths to try and make sure students understand the underlying concepts. If you are going to do a Calculus class, do it with Jamie.
Really helpful prof with superb note. His midterm and final that focuses on math concepts and less memorization, are fair.
Takes a long time to get the point across, and does so in an unclear fashion, if you like this sort of thing, like reading run-on sentences like this, then you will love his teaching style, I couldn't handle it, and will go to great lengths to never take a class with him again
Good prof. very helpful and very clear. His main goal is to do his best to make you understand the stuff.
Pretty good pro!
Great prof - very friendly, knowledgeable, challenging and encouraging. Quizzes/exams are hard, but fair. Make SURE you do ALL the homework. Thanks Dr. M
Amazing prof...never miss any chance to take course with him...his final was hard :)
Best math prof ever; very clear on explanations and does his best to help students. As for the "easiness" part, well, it's math, what do you expect - just do the homework and you should be fine
There are 2 types of proffs, ones that teach the material and those that are passionate about the subject and want you to succeed. He is the latter. Lectures are top notch, and homework assigned is exactly relevant. He is an outstanding proff for this course. I got a C and think so. Please don't blame your lack of effort for his teaching ability.
best prof ever
Very Good and nice teacher. He lecture was very clearly and not hard.I highly recommend!
Straightforward, useful. A very effective educator. Lots of worked examples in class as it should be. One of the best math teachers I've known.
He is the best math teacher in my opinion and I had many as I got a math minor. All you need to do is attend the lectures, write down the fill in the blank notes and know how to do the questions in the notes as well as the loncapa questions and you should do well.
Rating says it all. Best prof ever
One of the best prof I have ever seen.A very dedicated and passionate professor, who loved the course materials and is always fully prepared. Last time I saw him trying to help students till 1:15pm in the workshop even though his working hour was only from 10:30am-12:30am.
He is the best prof. I had in sfu!
Best prof ever !!
I am not very strong in math but Dr. Mulholland makes calculus clear and easy to understand. Words can't describe how awesome he is. If you see a course with him as a teacher, TAKE IT.
One of the best profs ever! He's so passionate about the course and his students. If you see a class with him as a prof, TAKE IT!
Best professor ever in math!!
Absolutely amazing prof, he gives an unnecessary amount of study material and provides an excellent note package at the beginning of the year to fill in throughout the semester. He encourages you to ask questions and he is great at clarifying every point. The class isn't too difficult and it's mostly due to his excellent teaching style!
Amazing prof, very passionate, I would recommend taking his classes!
It is essential to come to class because he explains the material very well. He's a great prof
Jamie is my overall favourite prof so far at SFU. His method of teaching made class interactive and fun as well as informative. Tests were fair for the most part, just make sure to study. He truly enjoys his job and loves interacting with students and that's why I would recommend him to anyone!
Very nice prof, take his class if you can!
He's one of the best profs I've ever met! I took his course on the first term of my first year and it was fantastic! Take the course with him if it's possible. His explanation makes all questions super easy!!
Great prof, loves math and cares about the students. Went above and beyond to help, spent far more time helping students than any other prof I've had. Additionally, he kept things interesting by making fun/creative problems that highlighted real life connections to course content. If you can choose, take it with Jamie, you will not be disappointed
Jamie is the best professor that I've ever had. He makes everything crystal clear to understand. He has a great method of teaching and if you want to see what kind of guy he is check out this video "Jamie Mulholland - 2011 Teaching Excellence Awards" on youtube. I will take any class that he is teaching.
Extremely good professor, try to take any classes you can with him. I got a poor mark because I didn't put enough effort in, but it's clear that if you do the work he recommends you will succeed. The exams are quite fair, though the final had a lot of emphasis on the last topics, so make sure you know everything. Go to the TA's if you need help.
Best prof ever. Took math 150 two semesters ago and had waited for him to teach Calc 2 for this upcoming semester. It doesn't matter what class it is, or what time it's at, if Jamie's the teacher, then take it. You simply can't and won't regret it even if you get a bad mark. Even in 350 characters, I don't think that he can be praised enough LOL.
Calculus II is a challenging subject, but Jamie is the absolute best option for it. He makes himself readily available for questions, has all the lecture videos posted, and is very clear in lecture. In short, he's fantastic, and I would recommend him over any math professor in the school.
He's the best prof that I've had so far in SFU. If there's a math course with Jamie, definitely take it!
Definitely the best prof that I've had in SFU! He is super helpful to the students, and spent far more time helping students than any other prof I've had. He also made a lot of fun and creative videos and problems which just made math a lot more fun to learn. If there's any math courses which are taught by Jamie, definitely recommend you to take!
Mulholland is the only reason I was able to pass my math pre-reqs
Very fair exams, manages to somehow teach ridiculously hard concepts clear and easy to the students
He is the best math professor I have ever had.
You need to attend his lectures even though there are video lectures on the website. He checks attendance with i-clicker and also in-class homework quizzes. His exams are fine but also not a easy marker. Overall good prof but since the class is scaled, you always need to be prepared for exams and quizzes.
Great prof, it's really easy to tell that he enjoys teaching, makes things super clear, and will help you as much as you need if you go to him for help.
Jamie is completely clear in his explanations of material and in his expectations for you in the course. The structure of his courses are amazing. His exams are challenging but fair. Make sure you do all your homework assignments and you will do very well in his course.
Jamie is absolutely the best math professor there can ever be in SFU. He just makes the material and his expectations for you so crystal-clear. His exams are very challenging since it's calculus(you know), but if you practice the questions thoroughly, you can manage to do very well!
This professor was the closest thing a flawless teacher. He is clear and concise in his explanations, cares about his students, and gives homework that will guide you to success. Doing the homework properly is a must as this is no easy class, even for people with experience in calculus. Despite the difficulty, it is still a great class to take.
Amazing prof! Very easy to listen to in lecture and his notes are great, do the assignments and some extra practice and you'll be fine. He's also really helpful in office hours!
The best math prof at sfu. Very clear and detailed explanations. Always willing to help and answer questions
makes youtube videos to help students learn. You can tell that he enjoys teaching and some of his research is actually focused on that. midterms were okay but final was pretty brutal (class average before final was highish). uses hard questions for quiz. That said, the prof rekindled some of my interest in math and is friendlyhelpful one on one.
Amazing professor, has a vivid passion for mathematics.
Awesome professor. Puts a lot of effort into teaching. Lectures are very well organized. Uses interactive examples. Math can be boring sometimes, but not when he's teaching it. Best prof so far.
Best math prof
Jamie Mulholland is definitely one of the best profs at SFU. Although his material is challenging, as to be expected in a math class, he is very helpful and respectful of his students and their questions. He makes math interesting and relevant and definitely does his best to make sure that his students are understanding the content.
Jamie is probably the best teacher that I've ever had. His passion for the subject matter is palpable and it really draws you in and makes you WANT to learn (as opposed to the usual NEED to learn feeling).
Best professor in SFU. He actually cares how you do in class. Provides you with an abundance of resources, online lectures, unfilled notes. Attendance is absolutely mandatory otherwise you're wasting your opportunity to learn from a really good professor. 100% recommend.
Took his class a year ago on my first semester. So far the best prof I have ever seen in SFU! He is super friendly and helpful in class, willing to answer your questions. Also he has youtube videos to record his lectures so don't worry if you miss any knowledge point. If he teaches any other courses, I would definitely take that course!
BY FAR, the best prof at SFU. Friendliest guy in the world. He isn't one of those profs that are only there for research. This guy cares about teaching and his students. If he's teaching you MUST take his course. This is calculus so be prepared to do a ton of work but Jamie is one of the few that make this course understandable.
Very clear in lectures. Cares about the students.
I took Math 302 with Jamie in Fall 2016. This was HANDS DOWN the greatest class I have ever taken in my schooling career. Jamie has a clear passion for mathematics, and for those who share this passion, being taught by him is an honour in itself. The class went into high detail and analyzation in permutation puzzles including the Rubiks Cube.
Engages all students, open to questions and help. Provides online lectures, and class understanding is higher than usual.
Majority of students like him because he knows those computer skills to demonstrate the concept of integral stuff, while other profs cannot. I admit that is a big advantage, however i do not found this prof to be easy at all. 2nd midterm average is only 62%, and questions are pretty challenging, especially for students whose major is not MATH..
Not sure what these two kids below are whining about, they clearly haven't put the time needed to succeed into this course. Jamie is easily one of the best math profs at SFU. Clear and engaging lectures, exams are straight from his notes and his online lectures are great for getting ahead. Visit his office hours too, he's there to help you do well.
Would recommend to avoid, especially if your major is not Engineering or Math, go for Veselin Jungic, i think he teaches far better:)) 2nd midterm is only 62%, not easy at all........
Jamie is one of the best profs at Sfu. The way he teaches math makes you like it. Although his exams may be a little tough, they are super fair. You just need to study hard and understand all the examples in his notes.
Don't know why people here are whining, Jamie is one of the best math profs at sfu. The way he teaches makes you really understand the concepts as long as youre willing to put in the time to want to learn them. His tests are really fair and are based on the homework he assigns. 10/10 prof, would definitely take his class again.
Pretty challenging, and difficult exams. For students whose major is not math, it will be hard. No idea why so many people like him, because of popularity in computer skills? Then why not go for colleges for it? Jamie is a ok prof, but definitely not a good prof many people boosted, and his exams are not easy at all!!
Jamie keeps you motivated with weekly video and homework quizzes. Notes are very clear and well-organized. Calc 2 is supposed to be challenging unless you are a math genius so I don't get why some people are whining. I also have a weak math background and found every exam to be fair. Definitely take 152 with Jamie if you haven't already done so.
Jamie's engaging lectures motivated me to succeed and show up each day. I'm not a science major but did well because he makes you enjoy math. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A MATH MAJOR TO DO WELL IN HIS COURSE. Notice all the people this semester that didn't enjoy him say lectures aren't mandatory, all the people that enjoy him say they are, figure it out.
One of the best math prof at SFU. The main reason Jamie is rated so high because his lecture material is extremely organized and lectures are very interactive. As for the course, it is not easy at all. You have to do questions from the textbook in order to get high grade. Calc2 is not an easy A and you MUST not think good prof means GPA booster.
Really amazing prof with clear lectures. He really knows what he is talking about and is happy to answer any questions. Skeleton notes are posted before lectures and he also has video versions of almost all of his lectures, which is great if you have to miss class. Midterms and final are very fair and he outlines clearly what is going to be on them
I was a little scared for math 152 but Jamie really made it feel easy. There is an i-clicker for participation and you have to do an online quiz every week but it really helped. Nothing on the tests were too surprising and I found is lectures to be very thorough and helpful, especially his online ones. Would definitely take again!
Jamie is godly at teaching.
His videos are extremely well organized and his lectures simplify calculus in a way that I can actually understand. He also taught me to solve a rubiks cube. 10/10
His online lectures are extremely useful and the homework that is assigned is directly applicable to his weekly quizzes as well as the midterms. Best prof I had this semester by far.
A really good choice for a calc prof. Midterms and final were fair. There are weekly quiz questions so make sure you do webassign and the extra questions. TA's were helpful in the workshop. Make sure you practice optimization and related rates as these are probably the hardest concepts in the course. There are iclicker participation questions.
A real beast (a compliment) at math and teaching. Each lecture is like a Ted talk; it's so exciting! Really complete the homework and go to the Calculus workshop to receive clarification upon lecture notes, if u need. He has all lectures pre-recorded on youtube, so you can skip, or one can clarify upon a particular section of the notes #bestteacher
Jamie Mulholland is an excellent prof. I've been fortunate to have some great math teachers, however, Jamie takes the cake for accessibility and clarity. If questions from WebAssign or the after-video quizzes were generally not understood by the class, Jamie would go over it in detail during lecture. His youtube channel is a great resource as well.
The best. Meet him.
Had him for both math 151 & 152. best prof ever
Honestly you can't ask for a better prof more math he is absolutely amazing!
Would give him 11/10 if I could. He's nothing short of amazing. Not once did I walk out of a lecture confused: everything is explained in the clearest way possible and his class is very well-organized. I've never had a better teacher. His exams definitely aren't easy but they're very fair. :) :) :)
All his lectures are easy to follow, and he has amazing resources like video lectures to help if you don't understand. Course load was average; online questions and quiz every week. Exams were fair if you did your work and paid attention in class. I've talked to him outside of lecture and he is super nice and cares about his students.
Amazing prof. Clearly cares about teaching and his students. Surprising to find a prof like this teaching a first year course. All of his lectures are recorded on Youtube and explain concepts very clearly. You do have to watch an extra one that's about an hour long every week, but it's helpful. Excellent prof overall.
Jamie is a great prof that clearly cares about his students and has a passion for teaching. You really don't want to skip his lectures. His quizzes and exams are fair but be sure to practice beforehand and try to avoid careless mistakes (as with any math course). He also has calc 1 and 2 videos on his YouTube channel.
His passion and care for teaching is clear. Most likely one the best professors at SFU. At this point im just taking classes because he's teaching it. He's that good.
He is a really good professor. His lecture is very clear and easy to understand. His office is always open for students as long as he is inside. Uploaded videos on youtube are extremely helpful. This course would be fine if you understand the material and do all the homework.
Massive legend.
Hands down the best math lectures I've seen. Uses technology (even hard codes his own geogebra examples) to help students understand the visual element of topics. Explains topics well. Cares about students, reasonable and passionate about math. I had fun in his class, and math wasn't my favorite subject.
One of the best professors ever.
The other commentators didn't lie, Dr. Mulholland is one of the best professors in Math. He will go to great lengths to explain small details and provide explanation for every step, which is fantastic if you're someone who can get lost in the middle of a solution. He managed to make MACM201's difficulty bearable for me.
Engaging and clearly communicates. Thoroughly explains questions in an easy to understand manner. Here is award winning and I highly recommend him.
awesome
I would take any course he teaches, Jamie is an absolute legend. The best in the west hands down.
Lectures were great and exams were fair. Top tier math prof.
I received a low grade in this class (my fault), but I still believe that Jamie is the best math instructor at SFU. His lectures, notes, assignments, grading criteria and exams are all extremely clear. His exams were also fair and we weren't graded on a curve. This made students more inclined to help each other. We had an awesome discord group too!
Take him if you wanted to enjoy the course. Clear lectures and exams are reasonable. Revise quizes and any previous midterms for finals.
Any superlatives you've seen are true - He is one of the best profs at SFU. He consistently stayed an extra hour after class. The course is well designed and the HWs were well connected to the exams. The grading was fair and timely (2days for midterms). Its a tough course but he provides all the opportunities for students to do well.
Best lecturer I've ever had. He makes calculus fun.
He is the best Prof I ever had in Math. he made you feel smart because how he explained stuff made math seem super easy and fun. Get ready to feel like a genius.
The best math I have ever had. All the math prof should be like him. Clear and organized lecture, fair homework and exams. Take with him and you will like him! 100% recommended.
Tried the best to give as much points as he can. Didnt expect to have a B but there it is.
Jamie is the ultimate example of a professor who cares about your learning. He makes the most complex of subjects easy to understand, and is willing to go through minor details to ease the confusion of a student. Easily one of the best professors at SFU (not just in MATH). I highly recommend any student to take a class with Jamie if possible!
This is how math should be taught. Clear lectures with in-depth explanations and draws connections. Office hours are amazing - always gives thoughtful responses and makes sure you understand the material. An award winning professor and I now know why. Take him and you'll love math more than before!
Jamie is a great teacher. He explains everything super intuitively and in-depth, and takes the time to answer any question, making sure everyone fully understands everything. His manner is approachable and he makes math seem easy and logical, rather than just being formula memorization. Only downside is the 8:30 AM start time.
One of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure to learn from.
He gives good lectures and what's better is that the tests and quizzes are just like what he talks in the lecture. If you do the homework he gives, you should be fine with the midterms/final exam. Other than that, he's super caring. He always answers your email in a way you feel noticed.
Midterm 1 and 2 are done, now I can conclude that Jamie doesnt make this class any more enjoyable. His lectures are taught well but the midterms arent even related to it. He said that doing the review and going over lecture notes should be enough, I did that with ease and absolutely bombed midterm 2. Not sure why but his exams are not fair.
Midterm 1, ran out of time where a student had to address this issue to the prof himself. Prof said theyll consider the timing and the questions moving forward. Midterm 2, ran out of time again with more students from midterm 1. Where was there consideration? Fair exams is what I heard of Jamie in university but for MACM 201 its a big lie.
Thee Jamie Mullholland failing to hold his standards. Unfair exams , notes that dont connect to what is being tested, not considering how difficult it is to meet the time limit set, and before anyone says anything otherwise, ask yourself, why was the first midterm average a 52 with a C- being 36%. Happy I got in his class but now disappointed.
jamie needs to learn how to teach. he talks so slow and explains so much unnecessary slog that you waste 90 percent of the time in lectures. he also offers no help outside of class so good luck. his exams are also impossible to do no matter how hard you study. avoid this prof at all costs!
Midterms were much harder than expected. Especially due to the time limit I couldnt finish. The lectures he gives us is fine but doesnt correlate to the midterms in a way. Homework is very annoying to do as the TAs only mark 2 questions out of the 10+ so after putting in 10+ hours, you can get a 4/8 or 0/8 quite easily. Not a good prof.
average 52% on first midterm, slightly higher on the second midterm, highly feel the lack of consideration during these exams resulting in confusion and stress.
TAs took off bunch of marks for not justifying how I got my equation yet I clearly stated and showed diagrams. With the time limit there shouldnt be such harsh marking. This is on Jamie due to the questions and time limit he gives. Will never take a math class with him again. Cant believe he was rated so potentially high, nearly a 5/5.
One of the best profs I had. Explains everything very clearly.
The bad reviews for MACM201 this semester are all just people who are bitter they can't keep up in the course. Jamie is a fine prof who provides decent lectures and helpful office hours. Did everyone do bad in MT1? Yes, but he scaled a lot. Math is supposed to be hard guys, having a low average is the norm. Stop acting like you're entitled to an A.
Dr Mulholland is a good lecturer but as others have mentioned the material in lecture and assignments don't translate to what's tested on the exam. He provides a review before every exam but even after working through all of those problems with relative ease the exam doesn't go well. Had him for math251 and it was totally different, macm is worse.
I usually don't review but after reading the blasphemy people are spewing about Jamie I had to step in. MACM 201 is a hard course and not everyone will do well. Jamie gives the lectures that are easy to understand and seems to genuinely care about students. Tests and homework are fair, but this is discrete math and not everyone will get an A+.
I had some random surrey prof for my math 150 online course, who literally didn't lecture us once and just had us watch Jamie's lectures. That being said, Jamie was amazing. As someone who doesn't usually understand or enjoy math, he really made things accessible and did a great job explaining. Anyone who takes a math class with him is lucky!
Jamie is a real gem of a prof.
Assignments are brutal and they only mark two questions in each (normal for all macm profs). That being said, Jamie is the best prof u can get for macm. SUPER good lectures and clear notes. Super accessible, friendly, and cares about his students. Can't recommend him enough.
I have never had a professor explain hard questions in such an easy to understand way. Really makes that light bulb go off in your head and suddenly the solution seem obvious. Great lectures and super helpful office hours. Exams were fair, the first one was tight on the time but he took that feedback and adjusted the length of the next ones.
Jamie was by far the best math prof I've taken. His lectures are super high quality and well made, with lots of examples and practice problems. The weekly WebAssign and assignment problems were somewhat difficult but well worth it. Having barely passed Calc I and II, this class felt much easier, and Jamie is the number one reason for it.
Does a great job lecturing. He explains concepts very clearly and shows the methods to do problems very well. He obviously cares about the quality of his teaching and it shows. I removed a star as I felt the work load was somewhat unreasonable. The weekly homework assignments could take more than 6 hours but only 2 of the 15+ Qs would be marked.
Jamie really gets you hooked in to math. All of his lectures are accessible online on YouTube, and his explanations are in layman's terms. Exams are fair - most questions are a slight application of the problems you have solved in your assignments. Definitely recommend taking his class whenever you can.
Arguably the best professor at SFU. He makes Math enjoyable! Thanks Jamie for getting me through Math!
Goated Prof.
Watched his videos for math 152 instead of going to lectures with pyke
Actual chad of a professor - an absolute joy to learn from. The only issue I have with the course is that the lectures are too short (only the full length of class). As a dude that dislikes calculus (had to take for reqs), this man will make your life a lot easier because he actually explains the material instead of making it worse.
AMAZING PROF IN EVERY ASPECT
Jamie is the BEST MATH professor. He is amazing at explaining the material and actually makes math enjoyable.
The G.O.A.T. I've watched this guys online lectures instead of my actual profs for 3 different courses now. If this guy made quick, general-topic help videos for youtube he would have millions of subscribers, without a doubt.
The best prof I've ever seen. You just need to follow his lecture then can get A+ in his course. The course is curve and very easy to get A+. In the other math course, I studied harder and got total of 95, I still can not get A+.
The best math teacher I have ever had. Amazing lectures, super fair exams, nice guy. Made Calculus 3, a very difficult course feel so easy the way he taught it. Definitely would recommend taking Dr. Mulholland if you get the chance.
Although Jamie wasn't my professor (I was in the D300 section) I still only watched his lectures lol. He is an amazing prof and he makes learning the content incredibly easier and big props to him for being able to do that for a difficult course. The exams are fair and the final is basically just a combination of the 2 midterms, take math with him!
Super caring and dedicated to teaching. Though this course got me traumatized and I wouldnt take math again, have to admit Jamie is the GOAT and his lecs are really informative. 100% recommend taking him, but not 155 lmao
Professor Mulholland was great! He explained all topics thoroughly and I rarely had questions after the lectures. There were two homework assignments each week which weren't too long but some IQs were difficult. The live lectures rarely got through all the material so you did have to watch the recorded lecture in addition to attending in person.
Absolutely goated prof. Written Q's are difficult, but none the less he is just plain out really good at teaching and making you understand the material. He explains well, goes at a good pace, is easy to listen to and MOST IMPORTANTLY, his writing is super neat!
Jamie was a bit slow in his lectures, which may benefit some, but he was very helpful during office hours. Exams were copy and paste from his lecture notes. If you want an A in this class, you have to practice A LOT. I received a good grade by literally redoing the problems over and over again. This course is very content heavy, but manageable.
Honestly a very good professor. The reason I received a fairly low mark is because honestly, I didn't put in enough work to get a B or an A, but all of the resources are there to succeed. Make sure to watch his YouTube videos (even if you aren't in his class) as they were helpful in exam prep.
He's got amazing lectures, they are very detailed and easy to follow.
You literally can not get a better prof than Jamie. If you have the option to get him as your prof, you are in luck.
Easily the best prof I've had at SFU, I'm mediocre at math but he made it easy for me to understand. Make sure you don't slack for the final since its comparatively harder than the midterms.
the goat.
Great professor, very organized and great lectures.
So glad I got into Dr. Mulholland's class for my first year. Heard lots of great things about him and everything was true! He covers content at a good pace and has Youtube videos on everything if you don't understand. Explains everything very well and cares a lot about his students.
Jamie is very knowledgable and explains material exceptionally well during lectures and in his office hours, he knows what he's doing. As for course material, make sure you practise his assignments and notes lots so you can receive good grades on quizzes and exams. Trust me, you won't regret taking a course with Jamie.
Jamie is a good teacher. I highly recommend taking it. The only detriment is the early lecture time.
gave me an extension cuz i forgot also great overall
You can tell Jamie is an experienced prof. His course and teaching are very organized and clear. He knows what he is talking about and he cares for his students' learning. I loved that he had youtube videos for the whole course, so you can go back for a better understanding or watch in case you slept in.
Jamie himself is fine as a lecturer, especially since he has the entire course as a youtube playlist. However, there's an insane amount of weekly homework and quizzes which are barely worth anything. If you're unfamiliar with any pre-cal concepts you're going to find yourself struggling to keep up. Overall I don't get the hype.
The GOAT of SFU Math Department.
Calculus is hard, Jamie makes it easy. Rundown: His midterms are easy to ace if you don't make mistakes and actually attend lectures. Some back things are that you have to pay for webassign. People complain about assignments due weekly but I feel like it's necessary for students to understand the material. 5/5 is too low of a rating imo.
THE BEST!
The goat of the math department.
If I could give 10 stars i would. Best professor at SFU hands down. Super helpful, no question you ask is dumb question, respects all his students, and gives great analogies to help understand the material. Had him for 2 classes and it's safe to say Jamie knows his stuff and knows how to teach it.
Jamie's classes are top-notch - he explains concepts clearly and has great online resources. Using unstuck study and staying engaged made this course a breeze.
Dr. Mulholland is an amazing instructor and likely one of the very best professors at SFU. His lectures are so clear and he explains complicated concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I watched all of his videos for MATH 152 and attended all of his lectures in Spring 2024. His exams were very fair. Inspired me to do a math minor!
Dr.M is by far the best teacher I have ever had across all subjects. His notes are unbelievably organized and well written, lectures are easy to understand and well paced, exams are fair and no trick questions. Had him for both Calc 1 and Calc 2 but he is even extremely knowledgeable on topics like linear algebra and discrete math too. 10/10
Listen. I am not even taking his Math 251 course, im with another professor. However this man IS teaching my the content through his youtube videos better than my in person lectures. I can only imagine how great he when you actually take his class. 10/10 I would take a class with him in the future.
Hes just the goat. He makes math enjoyable and fun somehow. Lots of quizzes which are straight from the homework. Midterms and final were fair, just do the practice exams and the practice. I wouldve loved attending lectures if it wasnt at 830am. Youtube videos came in clutch! Loved this class
Overall, an amazing professor, his video lectures are absolutely amazing and really easy to understand. His midterms and finals can be challenging, if you haven't taken calculus before, but he provides you will lots of practice midterms/finals. His web assign/seminar assignments are also free marks.
Jamie is an amazing professor. His explanations are super clear and he makes everything very easy to understand. He is very organized and gives you lots of practice tests for the midterms and the final. I would definitely recommend taking a course with him if you have the chance. He made the class very fun.
Jamie Mulholland is the calculus GOAT. He's very approachable and his YouTube videos with great explanations helped my friends and I do well in the course. Midterms and Final were fair as long as you completed the practice tests. Don't miss a chance to take math with this man!! You WILL NOT regret it
goat of sfu
I took calculus last year in high school and hated it, but somehow Jamie made me enjoy it this year (and that says a lot). Great, friendly professor, has office hours in the calc workshop which was helpful for me, takes lots of time explaining concepts in depth. Make sure to do your homework and you'll be fine.
Goated for a reason. I would suggest not skipping lectures, but if you absolutely have to, you can catch up using canvas. Everything is very clear, both the structure of the course and the material. Just listen to him and ask questions if any. Course mirrors the Stewart textbook so no surprise curveballs. Easy course (compared to other math)
He's a great prof. As all of the other reviews say he is very good at explaining and made this course very enjoyable. This course was on the easier side for me though as I've taken calc in highschool but it doesn't change the fact that he's an incredible professor.
He goes through his notes pretty fast and acts like the students in front of him can do 10 steps of algebra in their mind without him showing the work. His exams are very difficult and are nothing compared to the hw and webassigns he gives.
Honestly the best professor at SFU
Two simple words. THE GOAT!!!
Had him for math151 and also for math152 prime. The prime section was the best course out of all my courses so far. Office hours were the best. Goated.
The best math prof you can find at SFU
Best math prof you can find at SFU.
Good videos but in person he has the worst body odor it's yuckkk
