GREAT teacher! Makes class super fun. She is always available for help and her ways of teaching really got me into the film industry. she isn't boring and will keep you interested throughout class
A fair class and professor. She gives powerpoint, which you can print out beforehand. Prepare to read the book, and memorize the notes well. She makes the class really interesting. Laid back about laptops in class. I learned of useful things that I can apply. Stay for the movies and discussion until the end of class, and you will do great! Thanks!
Hard class if you don't read book. Prefer Clary much more because she tells you what is going to be on the test while Poster relies heavily on the text. TAKE CLARY FOR GOOD GRADE!!!
She gives out four quizzes for the semester and all of them are multiple choice questions. In the book, it will tell you about tones of these filmmakers and you will be ask which one of them made this movie or which one of them flew to the US or something like that. It was impossible to answer. The only thing she said about the quiz was "read" and
Really nice and helpful professor. Her quizzes are easy enough if you read the chapters she assigns. The movies she shows are really interesting but sometimes boring. All you really have to do is pay attention! She is understanding too if you miss a test for a legitimate reason
Poster is a very nice teacher and is willing to help if you need it. This class is generally pretty easy if you pay attention to what she says and the discussions before and after the film. It helps to read the book and definetely read the powerpoint lectures she posts online and during class. The movies are half and half interesting and boring.
She's nice and the discussions are interesting. This class is not a free A so be warned. The quizzes are straight out of the book (vocab mostly) and the exams have several essay questions about the films so make sure you don't skip class. If you do the reading, and watch the films, you'll get an A.
an amazing teacher you should take all classes with her that you can.
I took HUM 70 and 71 with her, and I recommend taking any class she offers! Class is a mix of lectures and watching films or film clips, followed by writing briefly in a journal which gets you easy 'free' points. If you go to all classes, read the book (a must), you will get an A. Have to put some time in for the A, but it is not hard.
Very serious about film, and very serious about you taking it serious. She's a very real, young PhD, and helpful. But also, if you think you can just take this class with friends and talk during class and goof off, she will publicly put you in your place. Be serious and you'll be treated well.
Took History of Film, probably one of the best classes I've ever had. She's enthusiastic about people who have opinions, so speak up! Also, there's one major paper you need to write which WILL affect your grade in the class, if you base it off an obscure movie and make it interesting you're guaranteed an A.
A lot of reading. ~10% of quiz & test questions come from the book & aren't mentioned in the lecture. Due to the fast pace of the 1/2 semester course, not much time in class for questions/discussion. Recommend that film majors take the full semester course to allow for lots of discussion. Powerpoints are on blackboard for studying. Prof is nice.
Every class you watch a movie right after the lectures on powerpoints. Everything on the quiz is from lecture and partially from the book. She says you will have a hard time if you don't read the book but I would skim through it just before a test and be fine. Don't buy the book, you can download it online free! very helpful and understanding
really easy! just read the book and show up to class...she grades pretty easy and all you do is watch movies
Def nothing like B.Clary. Takes film extremely serious. Doesn't tell you what to study on the mid & final. Journals=250pts, Final paper=250pts, final midterm=100pts, midterm=250, essay proposal=75pts. She will not let you out early and after the movie, there is a discussion. Talks super fast and goes through slides fast (their on bb). Not too bad.
Hum 71 Watching movies for a grade why not? Little did i know Poster takes her film study serious. Pretty much you have to read the entire book to pass her quizzes or be a good guesses. but if you do good in her WRITTEN;) exams and Final you'll do fine, I got an A failed all quizzes but A's all exams including the final
GREAT TEACHER! Watched movies every class, small lecture in the beginning of class and post them on blackboard but need to attend class to see the movies for quizzes. Quizzes are easy and she grades easy, and expects participation to discuss movies.Def. reccomend her and this class for elective!
took her hum 72 (us film aka movie class) and jrnl 40. she's very fair and very sweet. love her view on everything. has a good heart and is very good at teaching. you can tell she loves her job and takes time to make sure we understand everything. take her you won't regret it!
HUM 72 is basically a class where u watch movies every week. the class is easy! however, the teacher is an extreme liberal and preaches her liberal ideologies in her lectures which gets very annoying. She also isnt very clear on what will be on the tests. but overall an easy class!
She is a great professor. I took this course online. I received an A. We watched classic films such as Singing' In The Rain, The Graduate, and more! (Netflix movies) Then we would write a discussion on Blackboard. There was a quiz every other week-from book. Overall, I recommend taking this class. Very fun.
I took her online Journalism course. I probably never stressed over this class once. It was just that easy. Simple discussion boards and weekly quizzes, and the midterm and final are essay responses that are not timed. Super easy class, very cool teacher.
Took her 8week class. watch a movie everyday and writing a journal is for hw. quizzes are not easy but not too hard if you read the textbook and understand the materials. Midterm and Final are based on writing; she grades easy!:) but, you have to study. EASY TO GET AN A, EASY TO GET A D FOR THIS CLASS
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS !!!!THIS IS A HARD CLASS , GIVES YOU KNOW IDEA WHAT THE MID-TERM IS ON OR FINAL. YOU HAVE TO READ A LOT, READING AND LECTURES ARE CONFUSING AND HARD TO FOLLOW, JUST BECAUSE YOU WATCH MOVIES DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING EASY PLEASE TRUST ME SHE IS A BAD TEACHER. THIS OTHER REVIEW ARE NOT RIGHT TRUST ME PICK SOMETHING ELSE..
You get to watch movies every class which is fun. She is really cool and likes it when you offer up your perspective for discussion. You can tell that she cares a lot about her students and wants us to do well. I think she's great and would take her again.
If you are not a film major DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This class is designed for film majors only. It is BORING, you will have to read about 200 barely readable pages of scanned material throughout the course and watch boring 1930s movies. The professor is uptight and the class is not fun at all.
Took her online intro to film class. In a nutshell its: pointless reading, pointless discussion board posts, and quizzes that are WAY too hard. This class is really only for people who take film REALLY seriously- to the point where you want to be a director one day. Too much vocab and overall a waste of a class.
Professor Poster is a character. She is really funny and you watch a lot of movies in this class. Some very interesting although I wouldn't have watched it outside of class. Some of the exam questions were tricky, but overall fair if you pay attention. She always is willing to help in class or online, but sometimes she gets in these weird moods...
Professor Poster is the best. It's easy to pass her Intro class if you attend every lecture (journals are only accepted for days you are present) and if you learn the vocab. Great movie selection. However, NOT a BS/easy credit class! If you're not interested in film, don't take this course.
Terrible teacher. Talks fast with the same tone of voice for 3 hours each class. No break, no time to ask questions, can't text, cant bring in a computer, cant talk to someone next to you. If she catches you doing any of the following she will do her best to embarrass you in front of the whole class and put you down. It was a joke of a class.
All you need to do is take notes on the lecture, and watch all the movies in class and you'll do well. She posts the lectures on blackboard if you zone out one day. She is a very sweet woman and is willing to help if you need it. The best class I took all year by far. Very good movies and interesting topics.
A great class but a little harder than I expected. If you do what she says: show up, listen to lectures, ect you can do well, but you have to do all of it. She is passionate about film and very knowledgable. Good movie selections.
She talks extremely quickly and it's often hard to understand what she's saying. She also doesn't really help you much and her assignment instructions are vague and ambiguous. You sometimes don't know what's exactly expected of you, and she doesn't really clarify when you ask. Made me feel like a nuisance for asking for clarification.
I have never rated one of my professors before, but Professor Poster definitely deserves a high rating on this site. She went out of her way to make sure that students knew she was available to help with any assignments and concepts. Her class inspired me to pick a career path in film. Great class and professor if you are passionate about film.
-She's very nice and understanding. you have weekly chapter readings usually 23 chapters. which are lengthy. -movie every week with journal ( easy) - only have two test -- midterm ( study!) and final project- presentation, research project on any film of your choice. -very helpful. lectures are long and boring though.
I LOVED Professor Poster! I was always excited to go to class because she was personable, engaging, and thought-provoking. I learned so much about film and about life. Definitely take her! 5 minute journal for each movie we watch in class. Two short papers (2 pages). Midterm & Final. Easy A as long as you come to class and do assignments!
Attendance is mandatory to pass-every movie you watch will be followed by a film journal which you will get credit for only if you were present. Basically 90% of all assignments (2 essays) and exams will be heavily based off film journals (depending on how much time & effort you put in them) so be sure to focus thoroughly on major terms & ideas.
Very bad and boring teacher
I took this class a year ago and it was great. I also took hum 71 this year. She is definitely tough but her lectures are interesting. Watched movies every class. Attendance and reading are required but overall it's not that hard.
You watch a movie (bring snacks!) one day and lecture the other. It's simple and about 30% of the movies are actually good. You have to really try to not pass. Poster is kind of out there though. She used to consistently yell at me for "talking" when I was genuinely taking notes quietly by myself and her jokes seem to always fall through.
Ridiculously long chapters filled with fluff and some occasional words to memorize. Boring lectures of common-sense material (a plot is a series of events?! NO way!). Cheesy films that don't go beyond the Hollywood hive-mind. She's a nice person, but overall this course is a massive bummer if you have a passion for film.
Such a great inspiring teacher that will teach you so much. Tests are kind of hard cause how do you study for a film test besides reading the text extensively. Super nice woman, brilliant. Quizzes book.
Very good teacher. She is very nice and respectful of students needs to pass the class. Always gives feedback on your work and lets you know what you need to do if you are not on the right track. Wish more teachers were like her. Expect to use the book a lot but also she assigns fun things to do. If she taught other classes I would take her.
HUM 71 was harder than I had expected it to be. I took her 8 week class this past semester. A crap-load of reading (i never read one page) but if you want an A you must read. The class is basically the analyzation of films. i.e. how does this cinematographic technique show this. 1 midterm, 1 final, Theres an essay on each one. Fairly easy 2 get a B
Take this course if you're film major, otherwise, take some one else. She has extremely high expectations for ALL of her students; she grades hard on the exam, and you have to word you answer exactly the way she wanted, or she'll mark you down. This isn't an introduction class at ALL.
Legit a super easy class. Poster makes things really clear and easy to follow. Midterm and Final were some of the simplest papers and tests I have ever taken. If you are not a film major, please be ready to read and really learn the material. The book is necessary but not super necessary. Read specifically about what she tells you to read.
Great teacher, clear laid out class. Very good and interesting class. Easy quizzes and posts once a week. One midterm and final. Would definitely recommend this class.
The class is cake. Introductory Film is easy. Pay attention and do the assignments.
I had an interest in learning about film but I had no prior knowledge of anything. She laid out everything to be very manageable for learning. Prof. Poster definitely knows what it's like to be in a student's shoes. Study hard for exams (2) and read for quizzes (4) and you're golden! ;)
She is so sweet and I love all the movies, but you have to read A LOT otherwise you won't pass the class. It's way more work than I expected.
Prof. Poster is great. Clearly explains expectations and gives great feedback. She made the class really interesting.
Professor Poster is AMAZING! She is extremely friendly, responsive, and makes the class enjoyable. Like everyone else said on here, the class is fascinating, and when you have an amazing teacher, with a fascinating class it's a win-win. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED! Just be sure to keep up with the discussion boards : )
Prof. Poster is so passionate about her lectures and she really goes above and beyond for what she can do for her students. Even though this class can get political sometimes, Prof. Poster does her best effort to not offend ANYONE and she does a really great job. This was a great class and I learned a lot. It's not hard to get an A if you just read
Professor Poster requires lots of reading. She is clear in what is expected of you. I really enjoyed the class with all the feedback provided.
Prof. Poster is the best professor I've had at IVC. I took her twice, 2 years apart, and she still remembered me (by name) from a huge lecture class! She speaks quickly but will ALWAYS slow down when requested. You can tell she loves teaching and cares about her students' wellbeing in and out of her classroom. If you love learning - take Poster!
Lots of reading for online quizzes, which can be googled. She really knows her stuff and she's extremely enthusiastic. Gives amazing feedback. Took class just for fun and it was very interesting. Only negative thing is she talks WAY too fast, but you're not missing much. Also, lots of reading. Sometimes 100 pages in 7 days. Would highly recommend!
This professor is amazing and caring. I took her online class in summer. It was not really fast and the lectures are interesting and you can really learn. Every time I emailed her with stupid and weird questions, she replied quickly and answered my questions in details. Amazing professor and course!!
Poster makes the whole class more lively and fun to be in. This class was lecture and movie based; it was super cool. She loves to answer questions and get to know the class more. I love her energy and she made watching films much more interesting and fascinating.
When i attended IVC she was one of the most caring professors ever. I had Professor poster Spring of 2016. Professor Poster is a professor that will allow the students interest guide the class. She is easy going. I would definitely recommend her for this class. Id love to take it again.
Not a very easy A, but she's a nice professor.
I am just going to say that her online class was one of the most fun classes I have ever taken! I don't know how she did it, but I was extremely motivated to participate in discussions on Canvas with her. Also we would watch 1 movie per week! So much fun!
Poster is beyond amazing! I took her for Film, Gender Studies and Journalism courses and reviews As in all. I promise you that you will enjoy and learn so much from this instructor her classes seem demanding at first, but she is very understanding with assignments, deadlines and extra credit make sure to show up to class for participation credit.
Professor Poster's class was fun and engaging and solidified my decision to pursue a journalism major. She's kind and caring, and her discussions revolve around relevant and illuminating topics. With the class being conducted completely online, I was very impressed with her organizational skills and ability to nurture a open and warm environment.
This class was pretty easy and it was interesting. Professor is great! Class consists of 10 online quizzes, film journals, a midterm, a final paper (get to choose which film to analyze), and a presentation on the paper. Overall, great class for those looking for a nice G.E. class. Definitely would recommend.
She's quite passionate about film, and breaking it down. If you want to get started in film, professor Poster is a good choice. As long as you do your assigned reading, and show up to class, you'll pass no problem.
Very very intelligent and knowledgeable professor. You learn a lot without the boredom. Class is super fun and eyeopening.
Professor Poster JRNL40 online class is very simple and she states what she expects beforehand. She doesn't accept late work, class discussion post is due by Thursdays, and there's a quiz after every chapter. You're definitely going to need the book, but the test are easy. If you miss a discussion post do the extra credit assignment she gives.
This class is definitely an easy A but also super interesting. The movies she assigns each week are very interesting and very great films and the quizzes are easy. I will say I think its ridiculous we have to pay 80 dollars for this website to take quizzes when she can just use canvas but whatever. Overall super fun class and love the Professor.
Poster is the best teacher I've ever had. She makes learning fun and she is very passionate about what she teaches. She is very understanding and easy going. You have to do the work though. Show up and participate and your golden. Any class you take with her you won't be disappointed! She is an AMAZING professor hands down!
She's a great professor if you are looking for some electives to take. I have taken her twice; for my major (media studies) and film history. I am looking forward to taking her class again in person.
Has weekly readings, discussions, and quizzes. I took her 8-week class and it was a lot of reading but bearable. She tries to respond to all of her students' discussion board with a charismatic attitude! Wish I took her in person but with the pandemic and all, it's a fun class to take for an elective!
Very consistent with schedule and coursework. There's a good amount of reading and writing (you also have to write essays for midterm and final). However, if you look over your discussions and reread you should be just fine.
One of my favorite professors and I've only taken one class with her. FILM40 was great online but be prepared to write some lengthy discussions every week and really show what you learn in your assignments. The textbook is needed. Exams/etc are very easy. She always replied to my emails right away too. Recommended!
She's a great teacher and her lectures are fun to watch. Get ready to write quite a bit but there's no need to stress. As long as you reference the lecture or the readings in your discussions, you'll be completely fine. Midterm and final aren't scary and aren't hard.
I don't recommended any one to take this class with her I was recommended from the student center to take class with her but from first day she no Zooming identifying the class Syllabus No support if you talk to her or give any kind of opinion and suggestion tell you to chose different professor or drop it So please check before enroll with.
Professor Poster is a pleasure. I learned a lot in this class even though it was only a half semester class. I highly recommend her. 10/10 professor and class.
Lots of reading, but it is doable. Professor uses proctorio for all tests and quizzes. As long as you read (or find an alternative studying method prior to taking the tests/quizzes), you will be fine. The professor is really cool, but should not teach an eight week course. This course is interesting, but since its condensed its lots of work.
You do have to read but an A is easy if you do it. THe lectures are long but interesting and tbh kind of relaxing lol. She's a nice person and an easy grader if you do the work so I def recommend her for film 71.
Not Educational Professional. Misleading and spoken in a direct strong tone to assure the amount of student in the class to be reduced. The class has nothing to do with Film. The test was over loaded to be more of a journalism class rather than a film class which was misleading. The Quizzes are more University level and not community college level
After a ton of boring and basic online classes I liked this prof for making it interesting. For me it was a pretty easy A but I took film in hs. Good feedback, good movies, and credit for doodling (fr, lol).
In order to succeed, I'd highly recommend watching the lectures! As long as you put aside a couple of hours a week to do the reading and watch the lectures, this class will come naturally. Professor Poster is one of the most kind-hearted people I've met. She's an amazing human, and loves to prompt further discussion, especially through email.
Absolutely loved Professor Poster She is so kind and caring; she cares a lot about what her students have to say. She grades essays by content not heavily by correct grammar etc. Very understanding about late work as long as you email asap. 10/10 recommend her
Unrealistic expectations of student time, expected to do about 6 hours of work within only four days (m-th), was fixed later in the quarter (sat-fri), but was a constant issue. Have to find/pay for films yourself, but will tell if film can be found for free. Not a super difficult class, put in effort & skim lecture and you will get a good grade.
PROFESSOR POSTER IS AMAZING!! I had her for FILM 71 and she was a great professor overall. Weekly discussions have two parts, one being due Thursday and the other on Sunday along with a reflection assignment. The professor provided great feedback and always included a few questions at the end to lead toward topics you hadn't considered before
I took the second 8 weeks course, it was a lot of work. She is a tough grader and you can't just wing it. You have to watch a film every week and a long discussion post for it. The only way you can get a 35 on the posts is if you use her concepts from the lecture. Grades papers strictly, but gives feedback. The final is 10+ pages so plan in advance
She's annoying and for a film class requires a good amount of work. I had to take her for the units and thought film would be an easy class. Required 300+ word discussions and required a lot in the discussions as well.
Great professor and the class is fair game; show up, listen to the lecture, and take notes on the movie. There is one midterm and no final, the midterm is also up to you to pass (read the book and listen to the lectures). I recommend this honors class to everyone.
She's a tough grader, thought it was an easy class, but it's not.
PLEASE AVOID!!! dont tank ur gpa for this GE class. makes the course UNNECESSARILY hard, such a strict prof...i thought looking at her reviews i would enjoy this class...but i was very much wrong... PLEASE TAKE SOMEONE ELSE ! ! ! !
if u r thinking abt taking this class, don't do it, save your sanity, im legit going to cry rn from how much work there is assigned toward students :(
NOT easy or fun class. She's strict grader - you have to regurgitate her thoughts & feelings in your papers/discussions or you won't do well. Long discussions, multiple 3+ page papers, and 1+ hour long lectures that can't be sped up. I tried really hard & never got 100% on anything - not even discussion posts. No quizzes, just papers & short answer
She's so annoying. Do not take her if you are taking this class for your GED. She makes a film class unnecessarily hard and so much homework every week. Quizzes every week for attendance and midterm was diabolical. 3 short answer and a 5 paragraph detailed essay all in one hour. Avoid her.
i honestly dont get why she has good reviews? this course feels like i was taking a honor class. students are expected to write 300-600+ words every Thursday n reply to 2 peers (100+), along with this she would sometimes assign a short paper due the following Sunday (3-4 pages long) and lastly a midterm/final that is 5-7 pages long n grades 2 harsh
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE REVIEWS FOOL YOU. unless your entire schedule is free, please do not take course unless you are willing to spend your entire semester writing endless amounts of papers.
Took her film class for the first 8 weeks of the fall semester. Workload wasn't too bad. Just a discussion board every week, response and a movie. The lectures were interesting to watch and present all of the information you'll need for the 2 short papers, midterm and final. You can get away with skipping the readings. No multiple choice exams.
Pretty chill professor. She used very easy quizzes from assigned movies as attendance. Usually one discussion post a week. heavy on no technology in class. Couldn't take notes on my computer during lecture but she posts them. I would go to class for 15 minutes to take the quiz for attendance and leave. Grades pretty easy. Exams are hard though.
As long as you did the work, this class is fairly easy. Class instructions are very fair and so are the short papers.
She is one of the most fun professors I have ever had. She is so funny and genuinely interested in what she teaches which makes the class way more interesting. The was class was so easy since homework can be done quickly and the quizzes were based on whether you watched the movies or not. I HIGHLY RECOMEND PROFESSOR POSTER!
Professor Poster is one of the best teachers in IVC when it comes to film and television majors around the class is straightforward and easy to learn and pass the class most of friends took the course and has no issue with it so whoever if she is available for upcoming classes I sign up asap and others should do the same as well.
Currently taking her hybrid class this fall, and she is super caring. For one of the unit quizzes, I got 4 wrong, but she gave me credit for 2 of them. So far, the workload isn't too heavy, but the reading is; and reading the textbook is necessary to do good on the quizzes, but other than that, great prof and is willing to help! I recommend.
Mrs. Poster was great! She is obviously a very educated person on the topic of films, and if you are also a fan of films, she is definitely a great teacher and this is a great class to take. However, it's not easy work. There are close to 50 pages of readings (Weekly) and a couple of hours of assignments, but if you put in the effort youll do well.
