The lectures were basically pointless to go to she barely taught anything and we were always let out early. Professor stressed the class was only about the accounting theories and not math so we did at most one math problem a week in class and the final was 70% math which most students did not know how to do at all.
Professor Seitz is passionate about the subject and if you do the readings you will do well on the quizzes. Make sure to be prepared coming to class. However, the exam is 50% of the grade and tests on very specific concepts. Reading notes and reviewing quizzes is not enough to prepare if you want a good grade in the class.
This teacher does not properly teach you what you need to know for the final. All she talks about is her husband's trucking business. Not a good professor if you are trying to get the B for Kelley or if it's in your first semester class schedule.
Test is literally 50% of the grade and she doesnt prepare you for any of it. Why is the intro to accounting class just an introduction to almost every topic in accounting? Why not just introduce the beginning topics and actually give students a good background on them? Shes nice and the class isnt hard she just sucks at her job.
I took great notes for the first 4 weeks (of an 8 week course), but after that my interest in the lectures fell off and I only showed up to be somewhere at 10 AM. I got an 80% on the final. The final is 50% of your final grade but the other 50% is free, so all you need is a 70% on the final in order to finish with a B.
She's not that bad, but if you can pick another professor, you probably should. She does not do a good job making sure you understand the material for the final. She gets sidetracked, and you are better off just not going to class. She is confusing and doesn't cover the material well. Pick someone else if you still have a chance!
Jamie is a wonderful person, super kind and always says hello! That being said, she should not be a lecturer. Right now, shes the only option for A100 but if you can get another DO IT. I can tell you more about her husband's trucking company than I can accounting because that's how lectures are spent. If you read Top Hat VERY closely you'll be fine
Jamie is a nice professor but the class isn't fun. To do well in the class read the book and really understand what you are reading. Attendance isn't mandatory but I find that it helped me understand concepts better. Attend the peer help meetings. They review how to do the checkpoints and podcasts and will also go over potential final questions.
She gets a lot of hate for no reason. The final exam is not that bad. She gives extra credit and it's easy to go into the final with over 100%. Her lectures are pretty solid, but I would definitely read the book still. All complaints about this class are coming from people that crammed the night before, ignore what others are saying about her.
Terrible teacher. You can get a better grade just reading the textbook and doing practice problems, she can't teach you about anything other than Seitz Trucking and Holding (which went under)
Because she doesn't look like most Kelley professors I bumped up the rating from a 1 to a 2. All of your grade hinges on one test so if you're not prepared you'll likely meet the same fate as Seitz trucking. This class is similar to your high school Accounting class except you won't learn anything and won't spend much time talking about accounting.
In class, there is a lot of information in a small period of time, so I basically did a self-study on A100 through the chapters each week. Weekly mini-quizzes are the only assignments, and it's easy to do well on those. Overall, she is a really inspiring business professional.
The class isn't too bad. I had some health issues and wasn't able to attend some lectures, but I studied the textbook and used the extra study sessions which definitely helped. If you read the textbook and take notes in the lectures, then the weekly quizzes should be a breeze. Work hard and you'll get the grade you deserve.
The final exam is the biggest part of the class grade, which is stressful. But the rest of the class assignments are super easy, so you should be able to go into the final exam with an A. She moved really fast in the lectures, so it is important to read the textbook to fully learn the material. Teaching assistants were awesome and super helpful.
Overall, Professor Seitz is not a bad teacher. If you pay attention to her lectures, she does tend to emphasize certain things that will appear on the final exam. You do have to learn a lot on your own by reading the textbook (essential for doing well on the final). Read textbook before class, so her lectures can be used to reiterate the material.
She is a nice person, but she is not the best teacher. Better to read the textbook than go to class. Everyone goes into the final with a 100% (or more if you do the extra credit) but the final is difficult. Discussion sessions with the TA's are nice and there are extra review questions on Quizlet but get ready this is not an easy A class.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending Pro. Seitz's lectures. They didn't always cover the exact material as the book or what should be expected on the exam, but she taught in a very engaging way. Those who view her in a negative light are the students who expect their grades to just be handed to them. Pay attention and stay caught up and you will succeed.
A100 is a relatively easy class as long as you attend the lectures and read the textbook. Her lectures can seem useless as she will go on strange tangents, but they are a must if you want to know about specific test questions. She is also fairly unavailable as every business student has her (Idk why they do this).
Seitz is a good person but not a good professor. Lectures get very confusing, especially if you don't know how accounting works. The textbook is your bible for this class. I would strongly recommend understanding how accounting works. The Final was easier for the 2nd 8weeks sesh than the first. Attend the lectures (might be mandatory).
just no.
Professor Seitz rambles in class about her husbands trucking company and tries to act like she is intelligent. She doesn't care about her students growth and your entire grade is basically one exam. I stopped going to class and learned the material entirely by myself, rarely even using the IU coursework.
Professor Seitz is extremely intelligent when it comes to accounting but explains as if you already know the material. The TopHat chapter readings are the Bible in this class. There are 7 total chapters. Read and take notes and then reread and add to those notes. Go to reviews and lectures are optional. Read, Read, Read !
Although she is a very kind person once you get to speak with her, her teaching is pretty hard to follow. I attended all of the lectures, took notes, and completed most of the assignments on time, had a 101%, failed the final and ended with a 61%. I'd recommend asking questions ASAP and reading the book. do NOT rely on learning from her lectures!!
The class information is not hard to understand overall. The lectures are close to pointless. The lectures information are poorly placed within the lecture and she just talks a lot about what is shown on the slide. Study the top hat information and go to the extra help sessions that is how you pass.
She talks more about her trucking company than Accounting, it's actually crazy. If you want to learn about a failing truck company that's losing $ then she is the perfect professor for you
Professor Seitz teaches A100 as if it is a review course and not an introductory one. She often skips over crucial material and rambles. Learn from my mistakes and skip lectures all together. If you read the book and go over and understand the checkpoints you will be ready for the final which is worth 50% of your grade and only 20 questions.
Just not the best as an introductory Accounting class, especially for a school with a nationally top ranked accounting program. Heavy on conceptuality, not big on actual numbers. Few things to be graded by, and final is worth a big percentage of the grade. Every business freshman has to take this class and she is the only professor. Read the book.
I understand why everybody dislikes Jamie, but the class itself is not particularly difficult to get through. Skip the lectures and really read the textbooks. She provides mid-term and final practice days where her TAs solve through a sample test. These sessions are super helpful so make sure to sign up for them when they open.
she doesn't teach well at all and always has an attitude
She is knowledgeable, but the teaching methods are not strong. It is so easy to not pay attention in class. The final is worth 50% of your grade.
If u attend the lectures, she will often tell u what questions will be in the exam & will help u prepare. good professor. make sure to read the book and actually try in the weekly quizzes
A100 is the only class that kept me from a 4.0 GPA. I felt like each 8-week class varied greatly in difficulty, with 1st semester's 1st 8 weeks being awful. Several questions on my exam had no correct answers, and the exam's content barely related to the class. She's an ok professor, but her exam felt impossible to succeed on.
Jamie is your only option so whether you want her or not is irrelevant. The class in general can be tough because the final is worth a very large portion of the grade. Be somewhat proactive and spend a couple of days really studying for the final and you'll be fine.
The teacher is nice but the class setup is pretty poor. The final is worth 80% of your grade the final review is really similar to what you'll see on the exam. People do poorly because they don't show up and take notes or go to the final review.
Jamie is a really nice lady, but she has a lot of students and a lot of classes. She tries to make class fun with Kahoots but it is really up to the students whether they want to engage or not. To succeed in her class, go to class because sometimes she would offer extra credit for attendance or give exam questions in class only. READ the textbook!
I stopped going to class because she confused me even more than I already was by talking about stuff beyond the scope of A100 and also her random rambling on about her husband's trucking company. I reviewed the material on my own and ended up doing pretty well. Would recommend others to do the same.
You will probably have her for A100, but don't waste time attending lectures. Just review the ebook and review the checkpoint questions for the final. Her lectures are too fast to follow, all about her trucking company, and just boring. Go to the lectures that are extra credit, but don't expect that to save your grade. The final is make or break.
TAKE HER AT 8AM. She does suck no matter what, but at 8am she does not go on as many tangents. She does seem like she could be a good teacher, but she does not really care about the students. Everyone has to take her so have fun.
you can avoid every single lecture and pull out a good grade in the class if you read the textbook. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK. if you do that consistently and understand the answers for the unit quizzes, you should be able to grasp the concepts.
This class wasn't that different as long as you study before the two exams that are only 20 and 30% of your grade. Copy Powerpoint notes and read the top hat chapter before class. Go to lecture so you can get easy attendance points. Study the Top Hat Textbook!! and study the weekly checkpoints before the exam and you will get an A.
A100 moves fast. There are weekly textbook readings; most of your learning should come from these. Lectures are meant to supplement your chapter readings. Tests account for 50% of your grade, while participation, weekly checkpoints, and extra credit make up the rest. Overall, this class is not difficult if you put in the effort outside of it.
Jamie isn't as bad as most of the reviews make her out to be, but don't expect to learn too much from her lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does TopHat questions in class most days which end up counting for participation credit. If you focus on the textbook and take notes, and memorize the checkpoint and TopHat questions, you'll be good.
Easy class as long as you study the slideshow and read the textbook. She rambles in lecture but you still have to go because she posts participation questions.
She made me dislike this class, I sat front row every class at 8am. Reached out to office hours did everything I could from what she taught. i felt as her teaching did not go with the testing which is the entire class grade almost.
I went to this class twice and grinded for the final and got a 90.05% in the class. I think now it has a midterm and a final so that's maybe not as feasible anymore but I also think she is the only option for A100 right now. This class is fine Jamie can be loud and confusing at times.
I don't understand why other students give Jamie such a bad rating. She is a good teacher, she gives good examples, and makes her class requirements clear. The class doesnt have that much work besides 1 quiz a week, overall good class and professor.
Do not recommend. She only talks about hating Nike shoes, her husband's trucking company, and a story about fraud which has nothing to do with our exams. She says everything in class will be what you are tested on, but that's not true at all. If you don't want to teach yourself, do not pick her as a teacher.
Her lectures are boring and most times you can learn without going to class but she takes attendance and its counted into the final grade. The weekly readings are long and go into too much detail compared to her slides and what's tested on the exams. The midterm is much easier than the final. Go to the TA office hours!!!
Do not need to show up to lectures. The slides and readings are sufficient.
Grade determined by midterm+final. Lectures=useless, she gets distracted, class is setup in very poor manner to teach basic accting. Hard to ask for help. HOWEVER: read textbook, do tophat, still show up to class, review checkpoints, and the class is pretty easy. Don't stress about this class it's actually quite easy LOL if u don't blow it off!
This class is easy. I took it for the first eight weeks, studied just before the midterm and final, and finished with a 96. If you just read the modules on Tophat and take some notes, you'll be fine and get an A. I primarily shopped online in class, but I did attend because she sometimes said what would be tested or had a participation point.
Pretty good teacher, class is only graded on 7 quizzes, participation and 2 tests (Midterm & Final) Lectures can feel useless because it doesn't feel like information is given or shown. As long as you read the textbook and take some notes on the textbook you shouldn't have a problem in the class.
She recently started using tophat for attendance, so attend all lectures! Study the tophat questions, readings, and weekly checkpoints before each exam. Overall, the class is super easy if you attend class and study decently. Jamie is very kind, and she is super willing to help students.
Clearly cared about the class, but her teaching style caters to how she wants to teach. There is 15 minutes worth of lecture each week before the daily Nike example. Attendance was definitely required, but every class felt like a waste of time. Tests were most of the grade, which is unfortunate because of how bad she is at writing them. Confusing.
Very easy going and clearly teaches. Offered extra credit that helped a lot. As long as you payed attention and did the checkpoints the tests were easy.
Professor Seitz isn't bad, but she isn't stellar either. She gives examples surrounding material we are learning, and grades off of attendance, weekly quizzes that you get two tries on, and two exams. The second exam is much harder than the first. Make sure you pay attention and study, and you'll do fine.
Manageable class if read textbook & don't slack. Tophat in-class & checkpoint quesitons on the tests. Lectures are useless, she gets distracted easily. Ace the 1st midterm bc the final is kinda hard. not a very hard class if you're diligent. Brief overview of accounting: managerial, financial, audit, tax. No debits/credits.
Loves her shoes. If you don't understand the lectures she teaches, read the textbook over and over again until you understand everything. I took a class that reviewed her lectures and covered everything again to drill A100 into our heads. Just be sure to read the textbook lots.
Lectures are useless but go for attendance points and her cool outfits. As long as you grind on the slides & checkpoints, the tests are fine. Don't stress about it, it's very easy to go into the final with over 100%. Jamie isn't the best professor ever but I don't think she's overly detrimental to the course.
This class overall was not bad. Although the lectures are not that helpful reading the textbook and doing the weekly checkpoints are. If you read the textbooks you will get an A. Attendance is also a huge part of your grade and going to class helps a lot. Everyone who says she is a horrible professor just is not trying.
The only good thing about this class was her outfits. Every class felt like a waste of time. The class moved quickly and she never went over details during lecture. She gave extra credit but will not round your grade. I highly recommend reading through the textbook on top hat very carefully and memorize checkpoint questions for the exams.
Goes on tangents and slide decks tend to be organized poorly in terms of content structure. Don't miss a class cause you'll end up regretting it.
I am surprised she has low ratings. I am majoring in accounting so maybe that's why I enjoyed this class and did well. Either way this class had very easy quizzes (besides one math problem). There's not many grades so do your very best on each quiz. Also attend class for FREE POINTS. The last exam was tough, but the class was easier than expected.
While she wasn't a terrible person, she was not the best teacher. She tended to go off on long tangents and lectures did not feel entirely useful. Along with that, there was a huge amount of note-taking through TopHat.
Her lectures and the textbook are insanely confusing and not helpful. I took A200 before taking this and so I ignored everything she said because it just confused me more. You have to answer the tophat questions for participation points but you can do it from your bed or from anywhere (she doesn't use the location tracker).
Don't listen to any of the negative reviews about Prof. Seitz. She was by far my favorite teacher of my freshman year and is very informative and tech-savvy (clean Canvas page). I firmly believe that anyone who disliked her class did not pay attention. She was clear-cut and well-organized in her lectures by using real examples to connect content.
Her lectures could be 20 minutes of helpful information that could be tested, and the other 30 of her life story could include what her favorite books are or what book she is reading at the moment. Overall, tests are easy if you read and understand concepts and terms. Get the free points and do the extra credit.
She expects you to already have the prior knowledge from the textbook that isn't required to read but you might as well read it since she doesn't really teach in class. There are discussion sessions that are optional on Sundays but I recommend going because you learn more from there than you do in class. Take EDUC-X 105 that helps with this class.
Not a bad teacher but the Lectures aren't too useful. The TA on Sundays does a way better job of conveying the concepts but Seitz's stories do provide useful real-world information. Not much HW. Decent grading. Def remember the formulas and you'll be fine. Test questions are kinda tricky and phrased weirdly but it's not too bad.
Talked about herself all of the time instead of teaching. 8 week course and extremely difficult
If you read the textbook and review the book, you'll get an A in the class. She is good at explaining the material and her teaching style makes the class more interesting. Her exams are easy and since A100 is heavily relied upon few grades, she makes up for it with a few extra credit points at the end of the semester.
Didn't really teach much at all. I found the TA sessions on Sunday far more helpful and easy to follow along. Exams aren't too bad if you memorize the formulas and just make sure you understand the basic concepts.
Lectures are not great and she mainly reads off the slides. Study slides for the tests and they are manageable. Gives extra credit that makes it easy to get an A if you put the work in.
There is genuinely no point in going to her lectures apart from receiving a participation grade. She talks about everything but the actual class material. You are better off learning everything by yourself and with your friends.
Just follow the grading criteria and lock in for the midterms and finals and you will be good
honestly one of my favorite professors. super passionate about accounting and wants you to do well. as long as you go to class, do the checkpoints, and read the textbook, you'll get an A
If you are a freshman pursuing a business degree you will have no choice but to take Intro to Accounting (A100) with Professor Seitz. Yes, it is a short class, but there is not much material. Professor Seitz tries to make it as engaging as possible and tries to add fun things to make accounting seem interesting. Try not to skip class.
2nd half of spring semester, Prof Seitz had really good lectures and always stayed on topic. However there was no curve compared to the 1st-8 weeks section. The class is pretty light on content, but since the syllabus is constantly changing, notes from even a year ago are outdated. Don't go to sunday discussion with the TA, and instead take X105.
Mid but required, lectures are more confusing than helpful. TopHat attendance questions aren't location tracked for her class, do with that information as you will.
nuh uh ........
Dr. Seitz is not the best lecturer but she is a very good professor. She makes sure that students get good grades (As and Bs), and she wants you to succeed. If you show up (participate in TopHat), do the weekly checkpoints, and pass the midterm/final you will be fine. Don't worry, just pay attention.
While class topics can be difficult, Dr. Seitz was great and broke things down with digital handouts. You don't get an opportunity to connect with her personally since it's a lecture, but she was engaging and funny. The tests (midterm+final) aren't cumulative, which is nice. There are plenty of TAs and study sessions to help you review material.
I'm not sur
I'm not sure why Professor Seitz has so many negative reviews because I enjoyed having her as a professor. As long as you show up to class, pay attention, and study, you'll do fine. She has helpful worksheets that you can use to take notes during class and usually pulls a lot of exam questions from top hat and the checkpoints.
She talks so fast that it's really hard to keep up with her. The proportion of the exam is very heavy.
Professor Seitz is passionate about what she does but isn't super accessible outside of class. As long as you pay attention, do the work, ask questions in class, and take time to review material, you will be fine. For the first exam, make sure you read the textbook inside and out. For the second exam, it is more of what is covered in lectures.
I LOVED Dr. Seitz's class! She, herself, is a great professor and person. A100 is a required class, but it is only 8 weeks. For both exams, just make sure to read the textbook, memorize the given formulas, and do the TopHat practice questions. There are a lot of TA's, study sessions, and she provides you with worksheets to fill out. Easy A class.
Professor Seitz isn't the best teach when comes to material. My best advice is to read through top hat questions, do checkpoints and make a QUIZLET with every top hap and check point questions and review those as much as possible before exams. LOCK IN for the first exam and do your best while the second exam is fairly difficult. GOOD LUCK...
Professor Seitz is very firm on her rules, but she is kind if you talk to her. Her lectures are not that helpful, and attendance is mandatory in her class. The weekly checkpoints are easy, but her tests are hard, and they only have 25 questions. READING THE TEXTBOOK IS A MUST. Also check her Q&A Padlet before the exams, she puts hints on there.
There are two main tests that you need to do well on, but the class itself is pretty light if you keep up with the work each week.
I don't think its her fault its hard to understand all the information. I think she's fine she just doesn't have the time in a 50 minute class to explain everything amazingly. I think A100 as a class is just hard in general. Sign up for X-105 if you can, helped me so much.
Professor Seitz is an alright teacher, not good or bad. She would be much better teaching in smaller class sizes as these are large lectures. It is clear she knows her stuff but sometimes has a hard time conveying it to students. My advice is go to the discussions held by the TA- they help with understanding the material.
Jamie gives no worksheets/study guides all the material you need is in class and need to go to the lecture. For the 50 minutes I spend in class I feel like I obtain no information. Better options for A100. However Jamie is lively and keeps you interested.
Professor Seitz is a fun person, but her lectures weren't the best. I often left them more confused about the content. The class size is very large, and the class is only 50 minutes long, so that might have played a factor. I never missed a lecture and sat near the front, but the exam-heavy nature of the course was challenging.
Intro to Accounting with Professor Seitz can be manageable if you put in the work. The lectures may not be the most engaging, but the material is light. Use resources like unstuck ai, the textbook, and TA sessions to excel. Attendance is a must.
Professor Seitz is honest and some of the work is tough. But she is setting you up for success in other accounting classes! Don't come into Kelley and complain about having to study. Seitz has really good lectures and literally gives you notes. She makes it as easy as she can without literally giving you the answers. Don't listen to lazy people.
Lectures were not mandatory but you should go. Somewhat confusing, but notes were provided, and if you put in the work you will be fine.
Prof. Seitz is a good professor and definitely wants all her students to do well. She provides notes worksheets and makes lectures engaging. She will provide you all the material, but there is a LOT of studying you have to do to do well in this class. If accounting doesn't come easy for you, be prepared to put a lot of work into this class
Professor Seitz is absolutely amazing. Before I took her class I was scared because of her rating, but she is an amazing lecturer. Its a class you must put in the work in to get an A, but as long as you do the pre-readings, meet with her, and pay attention/attend class, you should be able to achieve an A. Amazing teacher ignore the haters.
She is very nice and I liked her lectures. It's not an easy class but she makes it easier with her real-life examples.
I thought that Dr. Seitz knew a lot about the topic, and had a lot of stories from her time as an accountant. This class is easy if you pay attention.
She is an absolute fashion icon and I think I would really like her outside of class, but her exams are my worst nightmare. I feel like she did a good job organizing the class, and I genuinely understood the content, but she could not have made the wording on exams more confusing if she tried. Outfits 10/10 Exams 0/10
Seitz is a very lecture heavy teacher. The lectures are very fast paced and honestly they're not going to help too much. Also do the reading before class, theoretically this should help but it's different from the lectures. The tests are absolutely tragic like your grade comes down to the tests and there is two of them. They are worded so confusing
She intentionally makes things as hard as possible for literally no reason, very unflexible and intentionally makes the tests very difficult with trick questions instead of just checking the material. Terrible teacher, says textbooks aren't mandatory but concepts within them are tested, but not mentioned in class. Awful.
This is a very tough class, especially if it's taken first year first semester. You will do fine if you show up every lecture, read the chapters before class, and put the work in to study. The professor is very nice and willing to answer questions, yet the course itself and it's guidelines keep her very strict. 2 main grades=test, both difficult.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER - literally I would recommend skipping her lecture and do the attendance at home. She's not very good a teaching... often very rude or use confusing image to teach us. Instead, I'd highly recommend going to the TA sessions during the weekend instead. They'd do a much better job at explaining everything.
As someone who did not do the TopHat readings, I wish I would have. I think I would have ended with an A instead of an A-. The exams are not great. Notes? Not always super helpful. Study. Study. Study.
this class was tough, and honestly she wasn't the best teacher, she spent half the lectures talking about some random thing, vaguely tied it to the topic then rushed through the material. My tip is to really focus in class and study a lot, but honestly there's not much you can do here as she's the only person who teaches this required class
Very Test Heavy class, lecture is not the best but not the worst. Need to study a lot before test to get an A in the class.
This class is very fast paced since all kelley students have to take it as freshman and it is short. It is difficult but if you actually study you will be FINE.
Someone who took an advanced accounting course in highschool I can confirm she is not great. The class is test heavy and if you bomb the midterm (like most students do as she barley prepares us) you are kinda at a loss of hope to end with a good grade. Even if you put in time to read TopHat or go to discussions its useless because shes terrible.
Honestly don't understand why everyone is hating on her. She explained the topics really well, and even gave an extra credit opportunity that ended up boosting my overall grade by 4%. about 60% of your final grade will be the midterm and final so just be prepared for those, but overall it's an easy class. She can sorta come off as a bit rude tho.
Professor Seitz is great! From the first day of class she easily laid out the exact steps needed to succeed in the course. If you follow them, you are very likely to succeed. Lectures are thorough and she uses helpful examples to simplify the content. She is also very organized, providing in-class worksheets for students to fill out/study.
As long as you show up to class, take notes, and study you should do ok. She has policies she is strict with but explains them clearly on the first day. Some topics are not explained the best, and she was late everyday to my class (8am) which took away from time she could've been teaching.
Two major exams, but other assignments can help you bring your grade up if you didn't do very well on the exams. Make sure you do your TopHats and have it pulled up before class starts! She can be kind of annoying during lectures, but she has guided notes for them that make the lectures very easy to follow.
i had a 93! Super easy introductory class but one exam gone bad can really affect your scores! I had a bad incident right before the 2nd exam so i didn't do well on the exam, my grade dropped for an A to a C!!no more kelley for me! Please make sure ur ready for ur tests. she's COLD, doesn't care and will bring ur grade down if u ask for a make up!
This proffessor teaches more uneccessery things in class, everything other than the subject, and makes it harder for student to learn the concept. She makes things 10 times complicated than it is, I recomment not taking this proffessor for A-100
Great professor in my opinion I was kind of surprised when I looked at her rate my professor after my final. I thought that she was a great professor and was clear with her expectations. A100 is not the easiest class but if you work hard enough you'll be ok. She is the only professor so you have no choice, but to take her she is a good professor.
Really boring professor and is always yelling.
Extremely cold with no empathy for students. Hard on students with a superiority complex, seems like she became a teacher to become a justified control freak. No other options, but wow, what a shame.
If you end up being assigned in this professor's class without previous experience in accounting, consider it your end. She is the doom of pre-business students trying to get into kelley, absolutely terrible wording on exams and almost feels like she wishes failure for students. i would even take the L and fail the course rather take it with her
Thanks for not giving us extra credit because our class studied and we're smarter than the other terms. Also the most unreasonable person ever. Like if my friend dies I am not prioritizing your accounting class because you have no empathy. She thinks our lives revolve around accounting and then gets mad when the students do well on the test...
It's a straightforward, lecture-heavy class where simply reading the textbook and using AI-generated questions for practice is enough to succeed. The exams need effort, but the class itself is mostly "sit and listen." Don't expect extra credit or help from her outside of class. If you're struggling, the discussion sections can be useful.
Content seems easy, but she's horrible at teaching it and she makes the questions extra hard. She took away extra credit because people did better on the midterm than past semesters. Honestly, super unfair when every other semester got extra credit. She's also unapproachable because of her strict rules.
Prof is very useless and overcomplicates simple concepts.
Professor Seitz is a traditional professor in the fact that reading the textbook is more important than taking notes in class. If you were to just study based off your notes in class, you probably will not do that well in the class. Make sure you study the textbook and attend the TA discussions to receive the grade you want in the class.
She assumes everyone's life revolves around accounting, as if we don't have other classes. Unfortunately, if you're a freshman in business, you have to take Intro to Accounting (A100) with her. As a pre-business student, I ruined my chances for Kelley after messing up the midterm, especially since the tests are grade-heavy and there are only two.
does not teach material relevant to the midterms during class. delivers conflicting information than what her TAs say. makes it extremely difficult to succeed in her class. is not understanding, does not care for her students. have to go to ten different sources to receive complete information. lack of practice questions. awful class.
I know you came here for a review of Jamie Seitz, but I'll leave that to others. To succeed in A100, go to class, but also read the textbook and truly understand it—Thursday discussions help with key test topics. Her tests are worded tricky, so familiarize yourself with the material early. DO NOT CRAM.
If you're taking A-100, rely on the TAs and textbook lectures are boring and don't cover key exam material. The professor barely engages and is so useless, so attend discussions since TAs explain things way better. It's disappointing this is the only professor, and I'd never retake them. Be ready to teach yourself everything.
Might've been the worst teacher I've ever had. I'm pre-business and had to put a ton of work in. The midterm was completely unfair and pretty much everything she taught leading up to it had little to do with what was actually tested. However, the final was fair, but very tricky. She tries to trick you on the exams in almost any way possible.
we were incredibly unlucky and everyone in our class was too smart and so we didn't get the extra credit that is otherwise generally given to everyone. and so our grades dropped A LOT.
She might be genuinely the worst professor at this school. She uses AI for literally everything, even grading the tests, on the tests she says that she's not responsible for catching grading mistakes then doesn't even return the tests so you can check the grading. Hopefully they can get rid of her for next semester.
I can't speak on the difficulty of the class as I've had prior accounting experience. However, Jamie herself is a very stubborn and uptight person. She makes it difficult to approach her and does not explain things in-depth in class. You are better off going to the TA's or teaching yourself to earn a high grade.
Horrible teacher. Doesn't pass back tests. Gives curves to some classes and not others. Tests do not reflect lectures and purposefully try to trick students.
Lectures are not very useful, as she overcomplicates simple concepts and goes off topic for most of the lectures. She does not provide practice problems/practice exams so it is hard to study unless you go to CTS or TA sessions to get practice problems. Overall easy class if you put the time in but just make sure u don't bomb the first exam
Terrible professor. She cannot teach. She just throws content at you without explaining its context. You don't get to even see your tests. The content is not difficult, but be ready to learn it all on your own. I genuinely don't understand how she still has a job.
Worst professor at IU. I would never retake her class even if it were required. She claims to be very strict about her no extension policy. However, she let a kid miss both exams because he slept in and retake them at a later date. (He got an A) Her lectures do not teach anything, so get ready to read the textbook to learn the entire semester.
Unfortunately, you are required to take her for accounting, but she doesn't teach at all she does is fill in a template of notes, and every assignment is worth a ton of points, so 1 question on a test can take your grade down 2%. She even took away our extra credit because our class did "too good". Make sure you are ready to grind on your own.
Terrible teacher! Everything revolves around accounting, and if you do not want to do accounting then so be it. She does not teach properly. Notes are taken in class, but they barely provide any info. She uses AI to create her tests and grade them which I have never heard of before. Very lazy and does not provide any help for her students!
Not a good teacher. Cares more about meeting the grade distribution rather than teaching the class which is upsetting. Does not teach her students and uses AI for all the exams, so there could be some mistakes when graded. The excuse she gives is that there are too many students too teach, then why teach such a large class?
“Don't email me about grades or I'll dock a letter grade.” UNREAL.
She will literally punish you for asking about your own grade.
If you email this professor about issues on your attendance points or exam clarification or checkpoint clarification, guess what? SHE WILL DROP YOU BY A WHOLE LETTER GRADE HAHAHA HOW FUN
apparently according to "mrs jamie sietz cpa" the accounting board mandates her to maintain the gpa between a 2.5-3. now, how and why would anyone do that? anyway. if someone gets a lower grade, they get it curved up right? correct. but it doesnt end there. ANYONE WHO GETS TOO HIGH OF A GRADE GETS CURVED DOWN. one of the worst professors of my life
This course is strict, but it is generally known as a weed out class. Dr. Seitz has a certain amount of participation on assignments that she drops at the end of the course, but grind for the exams! Make sure you understand and can apply concepts in the notes, read the book, and go to TA discussions. If you put the work in, you'll succeed.
She was consistently late, blaming her "hour and a half drive," on her lateness which had two things wrong with this: 1) why are you teaching an 8 am class when you know you can't get here in time. Even canceling sometimes. And 2) this was a 50 minute class. She usually gives 5 extra credit points. And she did for every other class except ours.
Overall, I liked her. Her lectures were helpful and she gave enough resources to do well on tests. One thing I will say is she wrote her tests using AI so I would put questions into AI to help you study.
Shows up late to a 50min class, would not give back tests for us to check the accuracy of the (AI) grading. If you emailed asking ANYTHING about your grade, she would dock you a letter grade. She has too many students to teach effectively, so she's just lazy. She's the only A100 prof so hopefully the school changes that.
SIGN UP FOR THE TA CLASS. It helped me a lot with the notion notes he provides when you go, I didn't read any of the textbook. Make sure you read her slide deck and the notes she puts at the bottom. Unfair our class did "too well" so we didn't get extra credit like other classes.
“I never want to be the reason some students get into Kelley and others don't.” The proceeds to take away extra credit cause our section scored “too high”, rounded grades DOWN, and prohibits contact discussing grades (or else she will deduct a letter grade). Purely pathetic how obsessed with the distribution she is. Be prepared to work on your own
If the previous semester's grades are too high, she will make the next semester even harder. My friend took A100 first semester and they only had 25 questions on their test and were given extra credit. My class had 35 questions and she took away the extra credit. She literally wants people to fail. She's so weird and rude.
Frequently late to class, spends over half of 50 minute class setting up her technology and giving broad updates about the entire school, and does not clearly explain or answer questions about course materials. Simply put, she does not respect her student's time and is not a good instructor.
Dr. Seitz is one of the best lecturers I've had so far at IU. The main reason why she has been getting such a bad rep lately is because of the class structure, which is decided mainly by the department and not her. The class does feel rushed because it is only 8 weeks and a lot of content to cover. The only issue is she didn't give extra credit.
She is a fine professor, just definitely my cup of tea. I understand being strict about rules because you are teaching so many students, but the way she goes about it is bad in my opinion. She makes you scared of asking questions. I am taking the second year accounting courses right now and I can see the difference is explanations.
Professor Seitz gets a lot of hate, but I would say it is because of the department's standards rather than her lecturing. The class is only 8 weeks long, so material is taught extremely quickly. However, she opens office hours and is great to talk to when needing help. Additionally, there are discussion sessions held before tests that are helpful.
Pretty cutthroat class considering its taken freshman year. Seitz is pretty strict with her rules and doesn't offer a ton of out of class help opportunities (like B-251 and K-201) which makes it kind of hard. Her lectures aren't bad and usually decently informative but honestly I learned 80% of the course through the notes.
She does not teach, she reads the paper and tells you the answers. Go to TA sessions, they are so much better.
Jamie Seitz doesn't actually ever teach during her lectures. She just tells, without ever offering an explanation about what or why the stuff she is saying is true.
Don't know why people are complaining if she only teaches in lectures and gives you the information you need. Grade is exam heavy, so make sure you study the notes she gives and the readings she assigns, and you should be fine
Worst lecturer on campus. Her "notes" is the biggest steaming pile of dog poop ever. If you like your style of notes, tough luck, because she confines you to a coloring book. She also claims to give participation credit based on TopHat, but decides to give 5 participation points(2% of your grade) based on one random class. No SG/Practice problems.
Pretty clear about her awful grading criteria, make sure you read the textbook.
Yes, Jamie is hilarious. Hilariously terrible. Rude, too busy for her students, and is too involved with making the averages for the class align with departmental standards (shame on kelley for making her do this.) A100 isn't very hard conceptually, but holy moly does Jamie give it her all to make it way tougher than it should be.
Jamie is the only teacher that teaches A100. The class is extremely difficult as the lectures aren't helpful in the least, and most of your grade comes from tests. I heavily recommend taking x105 (learning strategies for accounting) at the same time you take this course. It was a life saver for me.
Sucks that she's the only A-100 teacher. There's a reason the % of A's went from 80% to 20% in the last year. She is trying to trick you. Exams are hard and there are only 2. You will have to study hard to do well. She provides no help and doesn't offer a study guide. Instead she says to make your own using AI. Lectures are boring and not helpful.
Jamie is very hard, she constantly talks about her past job more than the topics at hand. She wasnt even big4 so not really credible. She does not show sympathy so be ready to work
She loves big4 even though she wasnt working there. I know freshmans with a big4 internship and she did not even have that.
Class is designed for people to fail unlike other first year business classes. Jamie Seitx takes the grading curve of 3.1 very seriously and follows it religiously she does not want you to do well.
Seitz is not a bad professor, it is simply that the class is relatively difficult, and many people do not perform well and blame it on the professor. She is the only A100 professor and has thousands of students. She has TA's that are willing to help and review information. You will do well in the class if you go to lectures and study for exam.
The class can be hard if you don't show up to class, don't read the textbook, and don't study. If you do all of these things, then the class is not hard at all. The professor is great, but is strict since she has hundreds of students, so don't count on extra credit. **Show up to the discussions** because they are very helpful with exam practice.
The amount of work you put in is the result you'll get. Jamie Seitz is very straightforward and is a pretty good lecturer, however she is pretty strict on grading. If you show up, do the reading, attend the review sessions, and put some effort in, you'll be ok.
She teaches by giving students a work sheet and makes them fill it out in class. She also has a absurd rule where if you ask her anything about grades it is an automatic one letter grade taken off.
very disorganized, unprofessional, and not a great professor overall. content isn't too bad but you have to learn it yourself. She named the class "Class starts March 10" on canvas, and no one was able to find the course because of it, she also kept it like that the entirety of the course instead of naming it something that actually makes sense
She's not too bad at teaching and material isn't too hard either, but please know that TA discussions have only have a capacity of 150 out of 1000+ freshmen taking the class, and its unfair that only a small percentage of students get practice tests, etc. especially when the prof doesn't provide any of her own. Hopefully they fix this soon.
Makes things difficult for no reason. She is very nice and kind but just very aggressive. The exams are very hard and she gives you no study material and tells us to use AI. She is the only professor for A100 just know to study a lot for the exams.
decent professor... hard to be personal because its such a large class, does yell a lot kinda an annoying voice
I never understood people disliking her, I think she's a solid professor and does a great job at explaining the material in lectures. Accounting is one of those concepts you either understand easily or have to put in considerable effort to learning, so depending which of those you are this class will be a breeze or may be more of a struggle.
Professor Seitz teaches every Kelley freshman. For that, she deserves an award. The class is short and sweet, but definitely shouldn't be overlooked. I took accounting (bookkeeping) in high school, so I had strong basics and found the class straightforward. I studied, took notes, and did well in the class. She keeps grading fair for everyone.
She is passionate and the course is valuable, but is very fast-paced. Asking about grades meant an automatic one-letter deduction. Extra credit was offered in some semesters but not others, which felt unfair regardless of class averages. Review sessions ended early, and didn't share notes, making it hard for students with scheduling conflicts.
incoming falls dont underestimate the first exam, fill out her packet every class. I studied 1.5 hours a day starting 2 days before and did well on both. some tips are re do the online assignents as the exam questions are taken direction from it (word for word) also if you can fill out her packets from memory without any external materials then u g
Professor Seitz's teaching style is terrible. She gives packets which resemble 5th grade history notes. Additionally, she does no teaching in-class. All your learning is done at home using short videos via Canvas modules. You learn nothing in class and there are too many students for her to answer questions. Exams are more difficult than content.
All the content of the class was learned on your own through videos, where you write notes in a packet that is unorganized and gives you no room to write. Feel like I learned nothing, professor was just not good at teaching
you have to learn everything at home and we just go over problems in class, doesn't really teach anything in class, and grades very hard + two tests make up half your grade. if you aren't prepared for the first test and get anything under an 80 you are essentially screwed, and anything below a 70 means you cant get a B+ + or higher
She doesn't teach. Everything is in a notes Jackie and then expanded on in class barely. She expects you to know everything before it's even taught.
Very strict and unhelpful
Exams are literally the only thing that matters so if you dont take tests well good luck.
The professor does not teach in class; students must learn all the material on their own.
The fact that we only have 2 tests (which were pretty difficult) makes it almost impossible for most pre-business students. I was pre-business, and this class ruined my chances of getting into Kelley. No tools such as practice tests beforehand, no overview of the exact thing we had to make sure to know. Avoid her if you can.
Test heavy course grade, might be bad for pre-bus kids. She's not very available outside class no office hours, so use the TA discussions. She doesn't teach that much during 75 min lectures and spends a lot of that time on in-class activities and guest speakers which is annoying. Do notes/videos before lecture, ask Q's after class. No extra credit.
The professor would tell us to use AI rather than actually teaching, and her notes and videos didn't help at all. A lot of the classes we would listen to guest speakers. In class, she also didn't provide much support. The majority of your grade depends on exams, so make sure you are well prepared.
AI teaches while she assigns. That's basically how the course goes. It's sad that we have a teacher who has a CPA certificate and relies a lot on AI to do her own job: teaching. This class was difficult based on material, and she made it even harder for people who struggle with the curriculum. Study a lot more to survive this short and hard course.
I've had many strict teachers in my day, but usually the caveat being that if you don't perform well it's your fault, they just have a strict way of teaching. This is different for this class because the exams she gives are horrible, and they are 70% of the grade. There's no study guides, and the exams themselves are so different from the material.
Professor is helpful answering questions in class. Exams are difficult but not impossible. Attendance is crucial. Using AI to generate practice questions was very helpful.
An awful professor. She has a terrible rule that if you ask about grades, it's an automatic one letter grade deduction. She doesn't teach in class and has students fill out a packet from Canvas videos. The exams are tough. She also doesn't give any practice problems before exams and tells students to use AI for practice problems.
Don't have any hard feelings toward her personally, but the way she's teaching the class is begging for improvement. She would often upload homework videos at the last minute, and very rarely (if ever) taught a practice problem in class. She has AI grade all tests and checkpoints which just kinda makes me wonder, what work is she actually doing?
2 exams worth 66% of your entire grade for the class. She doesn't teach the class, she gives videos to watch for homework every week, gives a problem worksheet in class and doesn't teach a lesson. Don't expect any help studying, no study guides or practice problems are given, she says that you must use AI to help you study. Exams are very hard
66% of the total grade comes from two tests, in class activities and reviewing notes that she assigns in her videos is crucial. Just review the notes and videos she has on the subject and you'll be fine it's not that hard
Reverse-style class, so you need to watch her videos describing the lesson at home, and then come in already knowing everything. The Tophat checkpoints don't show up on the Canva calendar, so make sure to stay on top of those. Material isn't too hard, but tests are pretty bad—highly recommend the Campus Tutoring practice test sessions.
She expects you to know everything so when she teaches material it is very hard to learn. If we don't know how to do something, instead of helping she tells us to ask ChatGPT.
Professor Seitz is a nice person. This is an 8-week course that goes by quickly. The material itself(accounting) is not hard which make people think they are ready and then get caught off guard. The questions that she uses as practice problems are incomparable to the real exam. Use Notebook LM over Chat GPT to make practice exams; its what she uses
You have no choice but to take her for A100 and it's obvious that she's overwhelmed with the amount of students she has. She's obsessed with meeting the grade distribution, meaning that you have to study SO MUCH for a decent grade. Try and go to TA hours, don't fall behind, and read the textbook that's where you'll learn and get the most help from.
Only reason I am giving a 2 is because she is a very kind person. Other than that she is a terrible professor. In class material is practically useless and has no correlation to the test. She does not review any material in class and tells u to ask AI if u have questions. No study guides/reviews and on the last day b4 the test she put a movie on
Clearly overwhelmed and unfit to teach the entire freshman class. Lectures consist of doing activities that have absolutely no correlation to the test material. Outside of the videos, little to no teaching is done in class. IU should honestly keep the videos and give the rest of her 6-figure salary to Mendoza if this is the A-100 experience.
Professor Seitz just throws you into the harder stuff if you haven't taken an accounting class in high school the first few weeks you will be doing a lot out of class to even understand what she is talking about in her video notes. In class she gives you a “practice problem” that barely has anything to do with her exams.
Honestly, just come into this class expecting to teach yourself everything. She would jump into topics without explanation, and it was kind of a sink or swim type thing, like you either figure it out yourself or not at all. She used AI as an excuse to not teach a lot. Go to the discussions held by the TAs they explained better than she ever did.
Doesn't actually teach class, which is incredibly frustrating for the students with no prior accounting knowledge. Never seen a teacher be this obsessed with using AI.
She is the only A100 professor at Kelley, so all freshmen have her. Not as bad as people say. In class she gives assignments that only partially relate to what we'd be tested on, which is good for the real world but not for your grade, which relies almost entirely on the 2 exams. Read, take notes, and prepare outside of class and you'll survive.
Professor Seitz is a very enjoyable person to be around, however, her teaching style relies heavily on AI that sometimes it doesn't feel as if she is the one doing the teaching. She's difficult to reach outside of class too. Although, if you study the material, you should do well in the class.
All Kelley freshmen are required to take A100, but it's tough. Hours spent on notes and readings outside of class. Way too much information for an 8 Week Class. Bad curriculum- lengthy TopHat Chapters and 4-8 videos you have to watch before class, which were often posted late at night. Also, when a student would ask a Q, the reply was "Ask ChatGPT"
Posted videos late in the evening or at night that you have to fill out notes for, no actual teaching in class. Spent hours outside class retaking notes and teaching myself the content through the textbook. Whenever asked a question in class, her answer was to use ChatGPT. She needs to put more effort into teaching instead of her outfits.
Super unhelpful and will tell you to just ask ChatGPT. Class time was not used efficiently.
Need to attend lectures for grade but they do not help at all. You'll be fine if you read the textbook and watch the videos. Don't bother asking her for help, she'll tell you to ask ChatGPT.
To be 100% transparent, the content really isn't bad. Its the mentality you go into the class with. Everyone tells you that your going to fail and its hard, so you start to believe it. I didn't do as well as I wanted to on the first test, but in the end I was fine. My biggest tip would be to PRACTICE as much as possible and create practice tests!
This was such an unfair class for pre business students. She did not teach in class at all and we were only given lectures through videos she posted the night before class. She gave us no way to study for the exams, and the exams were much more difficult than any of the assignments. This class and this teacher wanted its students to fail.
Start studying from Day 1. It's hard to come back if you do badly on the first exam. Not much teaching was done in class. You are told to ask Chat your questions before her. Doesn't hold her own office hours. Use Notebook LM for studying.
Spends more time picking her outfits than actually teaching. If you ask for help she tells you to ask AI first. All of the notes are from prerecorded videos. Start studying a week before class starts if you want a chance at A. Her salary should be put into good use and fund IU Football NIL.
Doesn't teach the class. Can't review exams to see what you missed. Can't contact instructor to review your exam. Told to use AI to study for exams. If you ask teacher about your grade she will drop you to a lower grade. No choice in instructors since she is the only one offered
horrible errr
Tells you to study using AI, gets her test questions from AI, the in-class exercises use primarily AI, "if I come around and you have questions, I will guide you towards AI..." The material is easy, but her test really have little-to-nothing to do with ANYTHING in class and are weirdly hard? But don't worry because they're only 66% of your grade...
You take the notes outside of class, examples of it in class, and then the exam is so much harder. If you have any questions she says to us AI.
Everyone wanting to do business at IU needs to take A-100, of which Dr. Seitz is the only professor. It's a tough job, but I thought she made it interesting. Take notes, watch the videos, and go to the sessions. She's a really cool person, but don't expect too much help (there's 1k+ students). It's an intro to college and doing stuff on your own.
This class could be fully virtual the way it is taught by her. The lessons are all videos, you go to class she doesn't discuss the notes at all, gives an example worksheet that you do with people around you, doesn't go over the worksheet and you have to teach yourself. Nothing else matters besides the tests, which are much harder than material.
If your pre Kelley I recommend switching majors. She's awful and honestly made me question my sanity and intelligence. The class is passable but if your trying to get that B+ range good luck. I think she gets genuine joy from people failing. She seems fine at first, but after that first midterm if you don't have a religion, get one and pray.
Jamie Seitz has to be one of the worst things that has ever happened to the Kelley School of Business. She has no idea how to teach 1000's of kids at one time, so she does not teach them. If you took this class this year, or are going to take it in spring semester, be ready to kiss your wishes of Kelley goodbye. Absolutely awful teacher.
I think she's very overhated—I'm not sure why people dislike her so much. She doesn't negotiate grades, but that's pretty normal. She teaches accounting in a regular way, and the packets she gives are helpful. She doesn't provide a lot of extra practice, but the Canvas quiz questions help, and there are plenty of A100 resources out there anyway.
Took this class last spring, I'll say that her lectures are not the best. To do well in this class, make sure to take X105, the sister study class for A100. The instructors for X105 are very knowledgeable and want you to do well on the exams. A100 is only exams, so making sure to do well on the first one and maintaining confidence is crucial.
Teaching is frustrating due to the fact that most of the work that you do is outside. To do good in A100, you have to watch the videos, take good notes, read the readings, study the checkpoints, and use AI to write practice questions. Professor Seitz isn't a good teacher in my opinion because there isn't even much she teaches in class.
Very difficult to do well, test heavy class. Tests are difficult due to time constraints. Very fair grader/fair teacher in general, made all her guidelines clear and avaliable to students. Would take again, I would rather have a fair teacher that is difficult that an unfair teacher who makes you hunt the syllabus for her policies.
all she does is record herself taking notes and then gives you busy work in class. there's nothing meaningful about the way she teaches and your grade is very dependent on the two tests. if you do bad on the first test you're screwed for the rest of the class. when you ask her questions she responds by giving you an AI prompt to put into chatGPT
It is a very self taught class, if you can commit to learning it all yourself you will do just fine but don't expect help from her, she just tells you to ask chat gpt when you have a question.
When walking to the dreaded accounting lecture hall, I would pray that the IU campus bus would smack me so hard that it would send me into orbit. I started bawling and crying in the middle of the airport while studying for the dreaded final exam. I am praying for everyone who still has to take this.
Jamie gets a very bad reputation because she has to be hard on students. She is the only accounting teacher for over 1000 kelley/pre-kelley freshman making it hard for her to give any leeway to any of her students. All you have to do is watch her videos and try to study a lot on your own. Their is no such thing as overstudying for one of her exams.
Worst professor ever! She only relies on AI to teach class. AI still makes mistakes… so wrong in many ways
This is practically a self taught course. She doesn't let you look at exams to see what you got wrong. She doesn't really help you when you ask questions and doesn't even teach you during class. She just gives you a in-class assignment and calls it a day. If you are pre-kelley, I suggest you overstudy for her exams as they are the most important.
Although I got an A, she has to be the worst teacher here at IU. I get she has to be harsh by not giving students any help, but she never reviewed any material, the exams are wayyy harder than any practice problems she gives you. And on top of all of that, the exams are in total 66.6% of your grade :| I wish I could say she is good but she isn't.
Make sure to stay on track, miss zero classes, take advantage of TA office hours, and consult with upperclassmen.
The worst prof on campus flat out
Didn't teach the class at all; everything was assigned as videos that you would watch to complete the packet. When I would ask a question, she would barely answer and walk away. A100 is designed to prevent pre-business students from getting into Kelley, and her being the only professor that teaches it makes it ten times harder than it should be.
350 characters is nowhere near enough for me to thoroughly articulate how to prepare yourself for this class, but I'll try my best. Her no-nonsense policy is completely fair given the circumstances. As a human, personality-wise, I like her. As a teacher, I REALLY don't. Find someone to explain the layout of her A100/what to do, or you WONT do good.
Fade her, go to Purdue. This university teachers don't care for the students.
they really say rocket science is the hardest thing to learn, but i can confirm that a100 with this professor is even harder than rocket science. i was so close to passing the class (less than a point), but she doesn't curve grades for some odd reason. retaking this course next semester… will be overstudying for my 8 weeks of this misery! #hatea100
i was already considering dropping out of kelley before next semester, and this class was one of the professors that really solidified it for me. insanely test heavy, and you don't really know how you're doing until after receiving scores now. she also turned off the section to see your grades?? could have an A in there or an F right now!!
She is very strict with email communication and purpose of office hours, but I think the way she does this is beneficial to those who really are needing help. Class time is for activities rather than lecture but does include tophat attendance questions. They are not mandatory but do affect your grade. She is straight to the point and effective.
Just no 0/10 recommend. Good Luck!
She is the only teacher available for this mandatory class so buckle up! Note packets are done at home via videos, and what she talks about during class time is not helpful at all. This class will take over your life time wise. She doesn't teach at all, and will not answer your emails. Also tests are much harder than the practice ones.
Her in-class lectures and out-of-class work do not align with the exams. The exams are significantly more challenging than the work she assigns, and you need to study every day. The stress this class fosters in pre-business students is disgusting. She claims she cares about mental health, then destroys students' morale concerning their studies.
Overhated because people are just bad at accounting. Not her fault
She cannot teach. The entirety of the class is all self-study. She will provide video lectures; however, they are not explained in depth, and she will not provide you with the level of understanding that you will need for the exams. To do well, you really have to continuously practice problems and learn not to rely on her to help entirely.
Just a horrible teacher. Never gets her point across and doesn't care about her students. Unfortunately, the only teacher for A100.
Lectures are all online and class time is for working on worksheets which was somewhat helpful. Read the textbook if you want to do well in this class, but the concepts are fairly simple.
Don't let people scare you, you can do well in her class!!
Doesn't teach.
Jamie is a nice person and her lectures and notes are easy to follow and understand, however, the tests are incredibly hard even if you feel like you studied a lot. There is really no way to prepare for the questions she asks and there is not enough time for the exams. Come to class for tophat points and stay on top of the work/studying
She sucks but is required. Her assignments and notes will not prepare you for the exam. She also relies heavily on AI to teach and answer questions. Use the textbook heavily and watch complimentary videos. Use Notebook LM to practice concepts and material. The math is easy, use ChatGPT for that.
The only purpose of her class is to weed kids out of kelley. She does not want to help students and when you ask her a question she mostly answers with "ask ChatGPT". Her tests are very hard and this class is very hard because she expects you to understand concepts that are never taught.
Worst professor I have ever had. Material isn't super difficult to understand, but she makes the class much harder than it needs to be. She does not teach, tells you to use Chat GPT for everything. No study guides are provided; grade is based almost entirely on two tests. Genuinely a waste of time to show up to class, but attendance is required.
350 words, that's it! I could go on and on about how horrible this class is. If you aren't a DA to Kelly, kiss your dreams goodbye. Relies on AI for everything and teaches you using videos OUTSIDE of class. Be ready for the exams to be 2-3 times as hard as the content you learn. Major fade, roll SPEA, see you all there!
Worst Teacher I have ever had. doesn't care about students, doesn't teach in class.
The only reason I'm doing good in this class is because of the additional material given to me that is not provided within A100, like the X105 (supplementary a100 class) practice exams, and practice exams from tutoring services that require a payment. The only way you can pass is if you get ahold of this material. Ask X105 students for material.
She barely teaches anything herself in class, almost all teaching is done by TAs. Only uses videos made 10 years ago to "teach". Tells you instead of asking her questions to "ChatGPT" it. Says she will bump you down a whole letter grade if you ask any questions about her grades/grading policy. Almost all of this class is self taught learning.
She doesn't teach at all be prepared to teach yourself :)
The lectures are all out-of-class videos. You are expected to have the hour of videos watched each week before class, as well as read the textbook and take notes (took me about 2-3 hours per week). It's a 150-person lecture hall, so if you had a question, it wasn't getting answered. She doesn't reply to emails and canceled her office hours 4 times.
I don't even have her and I've heard she's terrible. Stay far, far away!!!! Jamie, when I catch you Jamie! Why are you doing this to my friends?!?
doesn't teach, says to use AI for everything, grade based on tests with no study guide (??), she has a fashion instagram account but her fits aren't always fire (??). she sounds evil.
She wasn't that bad. If you put the work into her class, attend classes, and actually study for this class you will do fine. Jamie teaches the entire freshman class of Kelley, so understand that she has a lot on her workload.
HORRIBLE. every morning i prayed there would be a snowstorm that trapped her inside her house.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Attendance is mandatory, she doesn't show your grades when I need to know as a pre Kelley student, I got real depression from it. If you talk to her about your grade, she will deduct 10%. So ridiculous. Content on test is also a lot harder than content provided for quizzes and study tips. Please do not take this class.
She is the only A100 prof which is why I think people don't like her since she physically cannot connect with each of her students and has a bunch of policies outlining that. However, if you take the time to connect with her outside of class in passing, she is a very caring and knowledgable prof. The course material is hard so you have to work
Good luck, the only teacher for accounting in Kelley and she's terrible. Try to review for at least an hour before her class so that you are prepared for the lecture. Seriously... it's ridiculous that this is the only teacher for accounting.
Office hours are only for students having mental health crisis rather than for questions about the actual class. There are no lectures just pre made videos to watch before class. To master course content she just suggests using AI. She also hides your grades right before the final. This class is required and she is the only teacher so good luck.
Be prepared to teach yourself all of the content because you don't do much in class that is helpful. The video lectures were not the best way to learn in such a fast-paced class, and it was very difficult to stay on top of how much content there was. Professor Seitz is very nice, but she needs to change how this class is taught.
She is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. She does not teach a single thing in class, but still makes the lectures mandatory. Be prepared to teach everything to yourself.
You have to take her but you're not gonna like it. Content wasn't impossible but I'd recommend studying more thank you think you'll need to as many kids bomb the first test and each exam is 40% of your grade. Also pay attention to the videos she provides as it's the only real teaching you'll get from her, in class work is basically useless.
Be prepared to teach yourself the entire curriculum. During class meeting times you do in class assignments and she does not teach at all.
By far the worst professor you can have at IU. She offers NO extra credit or anyway to makeup any points. She refuses to provide any study material for her exams (that are both worth 40% of your grade btw) and she barely even talks in the actual class time. Only reason I passed was PURE luck, so if you end up with her, you better start praying.
Professor Seitz will give you the most useless worksheets in class, and then expect you to be prepared for her nearly impossible exams. asking for help is almost impossible, and everything she gives you in preparation is nothing compared to on the test. she expects you to know what to do based off her 5 min hw videos and her worksheets in class.
I loved this professor. Professor Seitz is genuinely a great person and if you care to get to know her you will know this. The class is no harder than your average college class. If you think otherwise, you are not prepared for what college actually is and have been babied. The class is test heavy, but she tells you concepts on the test.
Awesome professor who teaches actual life skills and does not hand things out on a silver platter to students. I have never taken an accounting class in my life neither were good at math in high school, yet I exceled in this class. You should not fail this class if you have accountability and have effective study habits. Be lazy and you will fail.
Jamie Seitz exemplifies all the worst parts of Kelley academics. She does not teach in class, she uses online videos that are poorly made and uploaded late, stands on the idea of "ask chatgpt before you ask me." My class had no TA's until it was revealed we had grad students to substitute on the last day. Seitz is intentionally terrible.
She does not teach at all!! She will tell you to use AI if you ever need help.
I am trying to study for my final right now and genuinely have to reteach my everything, no teach myself everything because I've never learned it before because she doesn't teach. The teacher is so unreachable, so just know if you get a concussion, sick, you're screwed. Ive never hated or dreaded anything more, pray they add a new A-100 teacher.
The only good thing about this class is that its over. I have never hated anything more and have spend countless nights crying because of the final. People who say its not that bad came into college with accounting experience because the only thing I've learned this year is that this class is a huge liability for anyone in kelley. Good Luck!!
Just no. You're forced to take it with the one and only horrendous teacher. If you do mid on one test your cooked.
Good luck. Doesn't teach anything in class. Get ready to learn everything on your own. If you ask questions in class, odds are that she will tell you to ask AI for the answer. Rude and treats students like they know nothing.
This is the worst professor I've had the displeasure of taking. Get ready for a lot of Chat GPT and watching low quality videos that she uploads at 9 pm and expects you to have notes on for her class the next day. She is also incredibly rude to students and is condescending. Overall, absolutely abysmal experience.
In class time is never used efficiently. Grad is made up by your two exams mainly. Tells you to rely on AI to study and learn.
Hello all. Wow, where have we come after these 8 weeks? To think, we were once happy, joyous freshman, life hits you hard, huh. I am currently crying in a coffee shop right now, studying for this atrocity they call a "class". I would say this class is just our lovely fashion professor telling you to use AI. I think I have killed 4000 trees. #chuzz
INDIANA PLEASE FIRE HER ALREADY.
Enter class to do practices, she just walks around to help out with the practices, doesn't actually teach. “teaching” are copying notes down from the video. It's self-taught class. AI for everything. DONT MISS THE DISCUSSIONS- the TAs teach you accounting better than she does. Unfair- some sections exams are curved and others are not. Test heavy
consider switching majors. Jamie may not be the reincarnation of satan, but definitely teaches like it. Actually, she doesn't teach. At all. Or hold office hours, or assign relevant material. If you want to do well in this class, get ready to study hella. She also claims she makes all her tests with ChatGPT.
Professor Seitz has a bad reputation because A-100 is a Kelley weed-out course, but she really is a kind, caring, and supportive teacher. This is only an 8-week course so it moves quickly, but Professor Seitz provides helpful and sufficient lecture notes and activities to succeed.
bro this lady makes me want to jump off a building i regret being an accounting major i have basically drained the entire ocean with my usage of ai because she tells us that's the only way to study
ppl need to understand that this woman has 1,000+ students and cannot tend to every single one. this class does have a weird format, all lectures are online videos where u must teach urself the content. sorry but if you cannot figure out a100 you are COOKED for future kelley classes.
Honestly, this class wasn't even hard, but she made it 10x harder. Her reverse classroom teaching style doesn't work; she doesn't teach at all. Also, the material she assigns isn't relevant to the class. Get ready to learn everything on your own. She tells you to use ChatGPT to review. The only reason I did well is because I used Kelley Peer Tutors
Unfortunately you don't have a choice in a different professor so good luck! Just try your best to get a C and pass.
Professor Seitz gets a very bad reputation because people aren't used to having to study for classes, which you absolutely need to do for A100. I never had any background in accounting, nor am I an accounting major, and I still did fine! If you put in the work and do the practices, pay attention, and ask her questions after class, you will do fine.
She is the worst! 66% of your class grade is based off of 2 exams, and the first exam was way harder in my opinion. I paid for a tutor to help (highly recommend doing this from the start!), and I even took honors accounting in HS! She doesn't provide office hours, and wont talk to you about grades. Good luck if you're not DA (and even if you are)!
I took honors accounting in HS and still needed to hire a tutor (do this from the start)! 66% of your grade is based on 2 exams (first one was a lot harder). She doesn't have office hours, nor will talk to you about your grades. She also doesn't provide study materials, and makes you use AI for everything (and so does she). Good luck!
