good teacher. pretty easy. talks like a female johnny carson
understanding, simple, straight to the point, humor makes class entertaining
Good teacher, just pay attention and study all the material and you will do well
Easy A, no homework, just go to class, and study notes! don't need book!
nice, interesting, wants everyone to pass the course
Clear, understandable teaching style. Nice person. Good extra credit.
this instructor does not know how to instruct a class
very good teacher, very easy class, no hmewrk, good xtra credit, don't need book
the WORST teacher i've ever had in my life.
Good teacher...helpful, no book!!!, extra credit available
Easy class, but hard b/c test are too long for amount given
Not too bad, kinda hard, but still, not too bad
Great person to get to know, always willing to get to know you and help you out. Tests are a little hard though, but take advantage of the help.
Great teacher. Tries to make geograpy interesting. Great extra credit. Take this class--test can be kind of hard but the map test are easy. Don't buy book---won't need. Teacher has a steal trap mind---100 person class and knows everyones name by 2 week.
Very Helpful, do the extra credit, study for the tests, and the map quizes and you will do fine!
Extremely nice lady! Can be boring somedays but usually not too bad!! Very easy to talk to and understands all life's stresses! Definately recommend!!!
Great teacher and super nice! Will bend over backward for you. Lots of extra credit. Takes attendance. Easy tests and map quizzes. Gives study guides to help.
Somewhat diffcult, often boring, yet very helpful.
really like her. she is a great friend and a great teacher as well. she rocks as a geographer!!!!!!!!
Easy A, gives tons of extra credit. Don't really need book, but buy course pack. Test multichoice. Come to class for notes. She really funny too.
She will understand all of your issues, ans as long as you let her know 48 hours after scheduled class, she will excuse your absence.
Its easy if you dont slack off.
Great teacher!! Somehow learns all students names, very helpful, makes class fun while learning a lot.
Not a bad class-likes class discussion. She makes a tedious subject fun. Map quizes can sneak up on you and they cover large areas of globe. Be prepared well advance (study) and you'll get an A. Lot of extra credit it available (but a pain to do).
very helpful, great teaching style
great teacher, helpful, tons of extracredit, appealing sense of humor
I personally made a B, but I don't think I studied very much for the class. She is pretty boring, but a nice teacher. I think you could make an easy A if you actually study for the class.
Awesome teacher, tons of extra credit, somehow knows your name after telling it to her once. Come to class and study for map quizes, and you will be fine.
Very helpful. She wants you to do well, but her tests are a little tough. Map quizzes are easy if you study. Go to class, take good notes and you will do fine.
She is a really sweet women, who really cares about her students. The class can be pretty boring and the tests are alittle difficult. Study really well for the map quizes and you can make A's on those.
The tests are kinda hard but the map quizzes are EASY as long as u study. Also, you get alotta extra credit! Very nice also!
great teacher is you want an easy A take her she gives out so much extra credit that is also easy, i love the class
The test cover a lot of material. They can be hard if you don't put a lot of time into studying. Map quiz will cover a lot of places as well. Does give extra credit, also a project due. Takes a while to get exams back.
Yea she's a cool professor. Just don't slack off. Oh yea...don't take those map quizzes so lightly they can kill your grades. She does offer weekly extra credit stuff, so don't be a dummy, and just "do it."
Ok, her class is not easy. I had a really difficult time following her lectures. But she is a nice lady who def. cares a lot about her students. You will have to study a lot to get an A. Kind of bad about returning grades.
She is a very nice teacher. Knows you by your name (over 100 students). A little hard to understand. Test are hard, but she gives tons of easy extra credit that will bring your grade up. I would take her class again. Go to class, study and you'll do fine
Very nice and caring professor! Gives a lot of extra credit to help boost low grades. Barily used book. Make sure you go to class, as she takes attendance.
The map quizes are super easy. The lecture exams are not that bad either. You must come to class and study though. It's not just a "come on test day" class. It's amazing how she knows your name after meeting you once! The best!
Ms. Strickland is a great example of what a prof should be. She tells you exactly what you need to know and as long as you study what she tells you to study, it is an easy A. She is also super helpful if there is something you don't understand.
Go to class! if you don't go to class, you won't pass the lecture exams. this teacher doesnt go by the book, so don't buy it... it will waste your money. map quizes are easy as long as you memorize the info. the lecture quizes are tough. if you are not a geography major then don't take the class.
Easy teacher, come to class and take good notes. She is very sweet and helpful, and gives a LOT of extra credit opportunities for nothing.. easy A or high B...highly recommended
Only 3 tests, although open book they are very hard. There is alot of extra credit, but you will need it. She is unclear in telling students exaclty what she wants on an assignment, but expects very detailed results. Dangerous to take, but a nice lady
Easy class. Lots of bonus questions. But this does not gurantee an A. Thinks we are still in high school.
Great teacher...funny, plays music for examples to go with lessons, cares about students...if you have the chance- take her!!!
EASY NICE AWASOME TEACHER.
What a great teacher! Not only does she give reviews the period before a test, but she actually remembers all her student's names! Definitely take this class with her!
Very easy teacher. Gives a ton of extra credit. Tests are sort of hard but as long as you study and do your assignments you can get an easy A.
wow she will remember every students name and don't think she wont, its kinda scary though!! 3 tests, just do the extra credit and map quizes and you'll be alright!!
Gives tons of extra credit. Go to class and pay attention. Don't buy the book, I didn't use it at all and I made a B. Map quizzes are easy if you study. Takes attendance occasionally. Nice teacher.
She is very helpful. She gets to know you on a personal basis. She offers very easy extra credit pretty much every class. Her tests are not that hard. She will help you with anything as long as you put forth the effort. Shes by far my favorite professor.
A great teacher and lots of extra credit. Tests are ok, if you study. Class notes are all over the place, she jumps from course pack to web notes, to notes she created. A little unorganized but overall a great class and wonderful teacher.
Very good professor. Print the notes she give off Webct and you can follow her better. Do all of the extra credit and come to class, you are sure to earn an A or B. She doesn't give graded work back on time, semester will be almost over before she gives back test and any other assignments. She is worth taking as an instructor.
Awesome Teacher, you'll find her very funny, and very easy to get along with in general
Great teacher. She really cares. Be respectful (don't leave early or talk when she is talking - she hates that.) She made a boring class very interesting. Study hard for the map quizes and go to class and you should make an A or B.
Made the most of a pretty boring topic. Does a good job, but sometimes presents information in a less than logical order. Go to class, and you'll get a good grade. You WILL have multiple choice map quizzes strangely reminiscent of middle school.
really easy professor if u study the notes u'll pass the class w/ A..
I love Jamie, but this class was awful. Take her for another class, but unless you want to be bored to tears don't take this one. Sounds like fun, but is not.
boring class she does not grade anything on time easy A just clarfy what she wants
Nice lady, assignments are fairly easy, do the extra credit, tests can be hard, but just pay attention in class and study and you'll do fine.
Boring but extremely easy class; never read the book or did any of the extra credit and still got an A; she spends a lot of time going over unimportant technicalities and the assignments are easy but tedious; come to class and pay attention and you'll get an A
Boring topic. Material is disorganized and scattered between lectures, book, course packet, and online notes, and sometimes it's hard to even know what material is going to be on an upcoming test. This improved somewhat late in the semester. Runs class like it's high school rather than a 180-student college class. Not a hard class.
Awesome teacher, I will admit some of her lectures were boring but she did her best to keep you interested. Cares about her students. Out of a 60 person class she knew everbodys name.
Average. If you're like me then you hate LBST classes. Her tests are hard and contain the dredded "which of the following best describes...." and all the answers make sense in some way and I tend to pick the wrong answer. Out of the 30 something classes I've taken I've only gotten 3 B's. This is one of them. LBST classes SUCK!!!
She is a really nice woman who wants you to succeed in her class. She's pretty funny and will keep you interested in an otherwise non-interesting subject
Very helpful and nice women. I find this subject very interesting but she tends to make it a little boring at times. She gives extra credit and her tests are not to hard as long as you study. I would recommend her for this course.
Great teacher and very forward
I dreaded coming to this class because it felt like a complete waste of time. Don't get me wrong, she's nice. Tries to be funny, she's not at all. I felt like I was in an 8th grade social studies class the whole time. She gives out a lot of extra credit. 1st test is easy, 2nd and 3rd not so much. I fall asleep all the time.
I think I fell asleep with my eyes open a couple of times. Easy class she gives extra credit and study guides for all the test. She has in class assignments and map quizzes. Easy class just do study guides. One major project but its very easy.
She is very, very funny, easy going and always ready to help! Only negative is that there are so many sources used on tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will not be able to pass this class if you don't attend class! Overall a really great lady!
Very nice lady, helpful in class but found it difficult to get a hold of her outside of class. Biggest problem was that the information for tests comes from so many different sources. Gives lots of extra credit. Tests aren't too bad but STUDY!
Mrs. Strickland is a good teacher, tries her best to be humorous and light-hearted and make the class interesting. The class was a bit hard because you had to get information from SO many different sources - lecture, two different books, Moodle, and the bulletin board outside her office... not good for students who don't have time to mess around.
Nice lady, tries hard to be a good prof. Problems: test material comes from several different sources and lectures can be boring. Perks: Not too much outside work is required, though if you choose to do the extra credit it could amount to alot of outside work.
Deffinitaly take this class if you need a liberal studies.. I missed a few map quizes.. just wen't by her office, and she allowed me to retake them wich significantly helped my grade.. she doesn't mind when students ask her questions during the test (she may even give you a helpful hint if you've already narrowed down the answers).. go to class
Great teacher and class. Make sure you go to class. A lot of material she goes over will be on the tests. She does extra credit in class and via moodle. This will def. help your grade.
Strickland is a great teacher! Come to class, and take notes. I found that if you are a good typer just type out everything she says cause you are more likely to be tested on what she says vs. what she gives you (in powerpoint slides). Don't use your cell in class and get to know her, she's great. Oh and her TA- Luke, is HOT!
The class was pretty easy. I took the summer class and there was a lot of information to cover. She is very helpful and nice. There is a lot of extra credit. The map quizzes are pretty hard. You should get at least an A or a B.
Strickland is one of my favorite teachers! Her class is pretty interesting just make sure you keep up with the reading for class and studying (which can be time consuming). Don't text or talk a lot during class because she has a lot of material to cover (usually) and she's really nice. She can be random/funny at times and is over all a good teacher
I can't remember the number, but it was research design. I also audited it, so i was strictly taking it for the value offered, not a grade. It started out as a promising class. By the end of class you would have written your proposal with constructive feedback. Neither of those things happened. I never received any feedback at all. Waste of $$
The class is easy if you do what's asked. Minor studying maybe a day or two in advance for the tests, completing homework, and coming to class will without a doubt get you an A in this class. That's reinforced by the huge amount of extra credit available. The teacher does a decent job but can get dry. Just do the stuff and it's cake.
Hot TA!!! But seriously, she's amazing, all you have to do is come to class and do the work. Simple.
She's pretty boring when she lectures and she's kind of annoying at times. BUT The class is pretty easy, the only thing I had a problem with was keeping up with the reading, you have 2 books to read. Also, you have to sit in the same seat every day.
Lectures can be a bit boring as she goes into depth of what she's talking about. Take advantage of study guides and review sessions for each test. She offers tons of extra credit throughout the semester. Class isn't too hard, just make sure you show up to take notes.
I agree, her TA David is freaking gorgeous...other than that the class is pretty boring, Final was harder than expected...most of class pulled C's maybe B's. Never finished books we were assigned! Not complaining!!!
She gives a lot of ExtraCredit! Lectures are very boring. Reviews for tests really help, tests arnt that bad.
Horiible teacher! Boring class! waste of time! she will help you if you go to her office hours but i want to learn in class and she doesnt teach.. she tries to be funny and doesnt always succeed. idk what she even talked about half the time.. take a different teacher!
She is a nice person and tries to help you out the best way she can. The class itself is not too bad. The only problem is that we don't what our grades. She does not post all of them to Moodle like she said she would. She does offer a lot of extra credit.
She's a nice person and tries to keep the class interesting. 2 tests and a final, a couple in class assignments and tons of extra credit. Boring powerpoints and study guides are not helpful for the tests. I ended up with a B in the class.
There is no textbook for this class. She doesn't teach anything and you never know whats going to be on the test. Map quizzes are easy. Gives a lot of extra credit, but classes are very boring. She tries to make class interesting but fails at it.
Not very helpful. The TA is better to go to when you need help. NEVER ANSWERS EMAILS! Her class is pretty simple. 3 reading books are required we only discussed 2 in class. Map quizzes are easy,Gives extra credit. Her assignments are easy. Go to review sessions with David they are helpful!
She is an amazing teacher, yes you will have to work hard in the class but the assignments are not very hard. She also gives a lot of extra credit, she is very helpful and a great individual all around. I would take any classes from her, but please go to class, you learn so much and she gets really happy when you are actually there!
Overall the class was not bad, she was helpful if you attended her office hours but not much help during class. You'll hardly know your grade in this class and her tests are compact and much of your tests is based off powerpoints and listening. It's very thrown together.
Always cries and it's just so annoying. The class is boring, and you'll take nothing from it. Tests are somewhat relevant to the material she goes over in class, but you should study a little. Most of my friends ended up with C's. I did not like her at all, as she expected a bit much for such a bs gen-ed class.
I would not recommend taking this professor. She is lazy, never gives test back and is extremely sarcastic to students. It is a boring class, I would pick a different LBST.
This class was taught alongside Professor Garcia. They are intelligent people but between the things they taught in lecture, what was in the book and on the test did NOT correlate whatsoever. If you are not into the sciences like myself do not take this. grade will be a surprise unless you meet with her on her time. Confusing overload of material
I took this class as a 2 teacher combo pair with William Garcia. The teaching was good don't get me wrong, but if you want an easy class you should not take this. There is a lot of assignments that they grade way too harshly. The test are composed of 5 different including multiple-choice, truefalse, fill in the blank, short answer, and essay.
I have had Jamie for a few classes and she is great! She is a very funny women (But does not tolerate bs). She is very helpful and is always willing to go out of her way to help her students. Classes are fairly easy, but she gives extra credit and drops your lowest test grade. The only thing is that she takes a long time to grade things. Love her!
I took this class in combination with William Garcia, and Jamie was definitely the better instructor of the two. I was dreading the class until the teaching switched over to her. Great lecturer, love her sense of humor. They took attendance through class work. Tough grader, but she's always willing to help you if you ask for it. Would take again.
Overall she was a good professor, I learned some things although I feel as if the material was all over the place. Grades are not posted for a long time, if at all. Tests are graded harshly but there is extra credit. She started out the semester strong by posting update emails and the weekly extra credit. Then after about a month that stopped
No accurate syllabus or schedule. Unclear assignments. I have no idea what I'm being graded on and the course is half over. 10/10 would NEVER take again.
almost done with the semester and she has yet to grade anything, nor has she posted any assignments for us to do. Not sure how she can grade when she doesn't assign assignments. definitely would NOT take this unless you have nothing better to do.
While Strickland is knowledgeable and a nice person, she is a very poor professor because she is very disorganized to the point it affects instruction and teaching the material. For an online GEOG 1101 course, she hardly updates canvas, she didn't post any assignments after the 3rd week of a 5 week summer class, and takes forever to grade.
Professor strickland is a horrible disorganized professor. She doesn't give feedback promptly, takes over 2 weeks to return exams in a 5 week summer course. She doesnt update canvas or follow through on things she says she is going to do, (no email reminders and didn't even put a place to turn in our final project on canvas on the week she left.
the 5 week summer class ended, and still 10 of the 19 assignments she had assigned are ungraded. no email from her, nothing from her. not sure whats wrong with her, but totally unorganized and unprepared. I would really like to know my grade for the class. the school should be aware of how she is teaching and running her class.
Professor Strickland is absolutely one of my favorite professors I've had at UNCC. She is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and makes lectures very fun and hilarious. There are no tests or quizzes so your grade depends HEAVILY on readings and the group project at the end. However, this class was amazing!
Professor Strickland is a great person, but in this class you'll always be wondering... wondering what your grade is. Today is Monday, December 10th and grades are just now being put it. Imagine going into the final with no feedback and no rubric for assignments. It's required so you're gonna have to take it, but good luck.
Combo course with Prof Garcia This class was quite boring. The material covered is confusing and doesn't go together. The test consist of 4 parts; multiple choice, true/false, short essay questions, and 1 essay question, very picky with grading and takes weeks to get grades back. Study guide is completely useless. Read a bunch of books at once.
I had her for 2101. Does NOT GRADE anything on time. We took a test on material we didn't learn about... the best part about that was we learned what was on the test after we took it. Still did not adjust grades for putting irrelevant information the exam. Beware she doesn't like when you come in late, leave early or sit on your phone.
Not very clear explanation of what she expects or of the assignments. Grades like 5 things a semester and you won't get grades back for a month or two.
She never grades anything or gives feedback which is completely unfair to students. I have had her in other classes and she was the same. I feel like she is very disorganized and never has a lesson plan to teach, she just wings it for every class. And the over abundance of cussing is totally unprofessional. Expensive books required & never used.
Didn't grade a single thing we turned in during the summer session - literally zero feedback. She disappeared for 2 weeks (out of a 5 week session). The online site was littered with broken links with zero lecture material from her, just a handful of reading assignments. I can honestly say I didn't learn much of anything in this course. BEWARE!
Theres readings and discussion boards, but they seem pretty alright. Theres no tests at least for summer, or a final. BEWARE SHE IS DISORGANIZED. Theres no syllabus or structure. Assignments end up being confusing or messed up. Barely any assignments graded until last minute. Opened assignments late leaving tons to have to be done last minute.
Overall, fair easy class. Required Sapling Learning program (assignments on there were easy). In class assignments were relatively easy. Material taught in class and material on tests did not always match up. Some things on powerpoints that she emphasized but never showed up again or some stuff on tests that were never mentioned in lectures.
Course shouldnt be this difficult. However, this professor is lazy and does not grade things on time so its makes everything confusing. Multiple assignments from months ago have yet to be graded. Semester is ending in a few weeks and we keep getting assigned more work. She also made us buy multiple online sources that we never used. STAY AWAY!
Waits until last second to grade but grades fairly when the grades finally come in. Shes nice but probably is more talented teaching in person than online. Do not take this course if youre trying to save money. Textbooks and extensions were mandatory and expensive with online access codes required and no cheaper options or exceptions available.
Many people struggled in the class during the semester but many of them waited till the last minute to do work. Overall she is caring and wants the best for her students. You just have to do your work like every other college class
I took her geography class this past year as a freshman. I liked her a lot at the beginning, just getting to know her as a person. However, as the year went on, I found she is not a very good professor. She waited FOREVER to grade our papers and would get pissed anytime anyone brought it up in class. Def would not take her class again.
Her class is disorganized. This is a poorly structured class. Professor Strickland is a procrastinator and can also be crass and short. She definitely does not seem to represent the standard UNC tends to hold for profs. If you want to pass, read the material and teach yourself. She is easily distracted by students messaging in the chat room.
Professor Strickland is amazing. Granted lectures can get very off topic and there are instances where not much is taught, but professor Strickland makes sure that you understand what is going on. She is very clear in what is due and what the study and look for. Make sure to read whatever she has planned. Also, very accommodating and nice!
LBST2301- Went to every class, learned nothing. Powerpoints are the only materials you can study, but they're poorly designed. She goes off-topic a lot. SHE DID NOT GRADE ANYTHING EXCEPT THE FIRST EXAM UNTIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER. Directions for the assignments are confusing.
Strickland is a mess. Over 1/2 the assignments you'll do probably won't get graded, sometimes even tests. Going to class is nearly pointless as she teaches nothing, you'll teach yourself. Homework given in 3 different platforms so you never know when/where something is due unless she tells you, so you need to go to pointless class.
Jamie lectured two of my favorite classes Ive taken at UNCC. She makes her classes entertaining, light-hearted, and still topical. As a recent graduate looking back, she was always available to help outside of class (and office hours). Her passion for Geography and her infectious personality make her one of my most-missed professors!
you have about 5 or more assignments due every single monday but dont expect her to actually grade them. midterms came and went, i have not had a single assignment graded in over a month so i have no idea what my grade is in this class. she does give up to 10 extra credit points on your final grade but overall she seems lazy.
She is a nice professor but the class is very simple and easy. We haven't gotten any grades back since before the midterm and there are a few books you have to read for the class. Long term assignments all felt like a waste of time and the books we read(minus the stats one) didn't really have much to do with the class.
Never answers emails even after specifically saying to email them over questions/concerns. Made me buy the WRONG material for the lab and won't even offer a solution! Terrible!
The professor didn't grade anything throughout the semester. We went into the final knowing nothing about how we were doing. She is nice but her canvas page is extremely confusing and she makes you buy books you barely use. Most of the class feels like busy work and I feel like I didn't learn much about Canada or the US that I didn't already know.
Graded nothing by the time we went into finals. The class is extremely easy but it just feels like it was a waste of time. Most of the advice she gave us was extremely basic and could be found online or at the career center. She is extremely nice and willing to help in any way she can. She is very understanding and caring for her students.
Professor Strickland is passionate, caring and hilarious but her class feels extremely disorganized and youll probably wait the entire semester to get your grades back. I had assignments and tests due months ago that havent been graded yet. I honestly had no idea where I stood grade wise the majority of the semester.
Strickland was not a good professor. We never received any feedback on assignments or any grades for that matter, and today is a week from our final. If I could go back 6 months ago and change my course selection, I would. Stay as far away from this class as you possibly can. You'll regret taking it if you take it.
Professor Strickland wasn't the worst professor I've taken at this university, however each one of her classes felt like a waste of time and were unhelpful.
As you can already tell from other reviews, she doesn't grade anything until the end of the semester. We haven't learned anything in this class honestly, but it is an east A. There's a week left and we've learned 1 of 5 world regions (the entire purpose of the class). There were no tests, only very easy assignments and projects. Very unorganized.
We have one week left in the semester and we have not received a single grade or any feedback on anything we have turned in. All of the assignments have been relatively easy but having no grades at all, all semester is ridiculous. Additionally, she will make you buy access to websites you will use a hand full of times if at all.
Great professor and the HW wasn't too bad. The issue is that she doesn't put in grades until later (as of the time of writing this she still hasn't put them in). So understanding how to improve your grade is hard, but she is a lovely individual, attendance is not mandatory (even if she does) but there is no grade for it but helps.
Professor Strickland is nice, funny, and understanding. If you're not interested in geography, it's difficult to pay attention and understand the material. Assignments are easy but take a while. It's days away from the end of the semester, and no work is graded, which is extremely frustrating. She's a nice professor but not worth the stress.
The classes was unstructured and did not stick to the syllabus. If you're someone who needs structure like me, do not taker her classes! The lectures were vague and too broad to really say anything useful about the material. Instructions are never clear enough unless you ask. Grades take forever to be put up.
Very unorganized and does not convey information well. There was no mention of a final exam until the week before the test and nothing was present in the syllabus.
Not the best professor. Does not grade assignments until the end of the semester so you have no idea what grade you're making. She's nice but she can be passive-aggressive sometimes. The class is easy but it's unorganized and instructions can be confusing because TAs dont really know what's happening. Honestly don't take her classes, its annoying
Lab was under this professor, but TA's ran the labs. Honestly its based on how your TA treats your class, first half of the semester we had a TA who got mad at students for the simplest things, but then another TA was godsend and actually helped us learn. Every lab is class is 3 hours long, so buckle up! Material is self-explanatory.
never graded any tests, including the final project. lectures were very vague. strongly recommend you do not take her classes if you want to learn.
She has put one grade in and we have one week left of class. She gives confusing instructions. It's like retaking APES and it feels like it too, as we have assigned seats and the material is reminiscent of high school. She also singled out someone for leaving five minutes early because it was "distracting," but the distraction was caused by her.
First of all, the professor is very unorganized. There is no clear schedule. There are no quizzes and our grade is based on a few questions we answer on this platform called Tophat. The class itself has no relevance to our education and is common sense. The final project accounts for 20% of our grade, has little to no instructions and no examples.
Strickland is really nice but really scatterbrained. Our grade was mainly two projects due at the end and an in-person discussion post for the final. We did not get any grades back from the semester until after the last day of finals so I had no idea how I was going to do but she was a pretty easy grader for the projects.
Professor Strickland's class is disorganized, with unclear expectations and instructions. While the content is straightforward, the lack of structure and timely feedback makes it a frustrating experience. However, using tools like unstuck AI for study prep can help compensate for the course's shortcomings.
DO NOT TAKE JAMIE STRICKLAND FOR ANY CLASS. She has the most disorganized canvas, vague lectures and she does not respond to emails. Exams cover topics that were not touched upon in class or in readings and she rarely ever grades assignments. She is an unprofessional and disorganized professor. Really wish she would be replaced by the department.
I'm very grateful for Prof. Strickland. One of the kinder souls in the world.
This lab is taught by a TA so it really depends on who your TA is. The TA I had was ok, she always showed up 5-10 minutes late to the 8am lab. She was nice but couldn't answer many questions and if we had a question about the material she wasn't really allowed to help us. The labs are somewhat online and can be confusing. It's a long 3 hour lab.
Doesn't grade things until the end of the semester, so you have no idea how you're doing in the class. Extremely frustrating. Also makes assignments so much more complicated than they need to be by not expressing clear due dates and posting the assignment on 3 different platforms. You don't know where to complete each assignment.
Depends on TA. Mine was Emma Lacy- very sweet and helpful. Strickland had the worst format for her labs and questions were worded in such an annoying way. It is an easy A class if you put in a couple hours of effort. Labs are online-ish and ur lowest engagement question grade is dropped. 3 quizzes, study guides (use these and TA's office hours).
I observed Mrs. Strickland getting on a student's case over an advising appointment he had to go to with the only slot overlapping with this class, in words alone preventing him from leaving class, citing "You won't fall out of line." She then proceeded to laugh about it joking to another student.
Worst class and worst professor I've ever experienced in my life. Taught like a high school classroom and mandatory attendance but lectures were full of nonsense and a waste of time. No sense of organization, no clear grading criteria and then gets mad when nobody has a clue what's going on in the class. Her high ratings are 100% fabricated.
She doesn't respond to emails, doesn't grade until the last minute, she does not post any assignments for weeks. she forgets a lot. uses too many platforms that don't make any sense. I don't understand why she is a professor.
Even by the last day of classes, nothing has been graded. There are so many assignments on multiple different sites, it's confusing to keep track of assignments. Topics vary by week to week wildly, and feel inconsistent. Many assignments have minimal instructions and almost feel AI-generated. If possible, avoid.
This course is very disorganized and it's very difficult to know what she wants you to do. Aside from that, everything was graded extremely late. So if you'd like to know your test grades within a month of the test date, i'd suggest you not take this class.
Dr. Strickland is helpful and caring, don't get me wrong, but she is EXTREMELY disorganized. Last week of the semester and barely any assignments graded, along with confusing or lacking expectations throughout the semester, and an inconsistent schedule. Maybe her in person class is better, but don't expect to get much out of this.
