She is very crabby and will put you done in front of the class with no problem. You might be ok if you never have a question!
Everyone has a bad day. I personally find her to be a great teacher and a genuine help when needed. I feel that she goes out of her way to make sure I understand the concepts. I appreciate her very much, and majority of my class feels the same.
Jamie's great. I fail to see how she's "crabby" and I never once saw her be rude to anyone in class. She would always stay after class to explain concepts to those who didn't understand and was heaps of fun. Sad that she isn't teaching 104. Would definitely (and going to) take her again.
She was nice. the class was hard though.
very nice and fun :)
Really polite to her students and cares for them!
Loved it! Hard class though! STUDY STUDY !STUDY
You know what they say, "sparking a good lizard will only make tears fall in hindsight." I feel that quote really sums up this class.
I learned more then I bargained for this quarter :P
This class was too much fun. No seriously it was TOO much fun. I had so much fun that I forgot to study. And when I wanted to study, all my new friends from class kept coming over. And don't even get me started on Jamie. She made everything seem so easy and simple that I didn't bother studying. And i had to cram. Too much fun for one class.
Jamie Vandette makes a somewhat complex subject, seem ordinarily simple. She gives clear concise notes and promotes participation in class. It is definitely a difficult subject but Vandette's methods will allow a student to excel
She is one of the best teachers EVER!!! She's super nice, helpful and WAY interesting. She has a packet that you can use to take all of your note in as well as study guides for each test. As long as you study what she went over in class, you'll do great! Take a class from her if you can! :)
As a person she seemed very nice, as a "helpful" teacher, not so much. Of course I had her at night when the stress of the day I'm sure was weighing. Class had extreme detail for a community college, more so than I thought needed. But I did learn a great deal.
You will need to put a lot of time in this class to do well. Study your NOTES often and start learning the practical info ASAP! Jamie takes what is sometimes difficult to understand in the book and makes it easier to grasp in her lectures.
Best teacher ever, she makes tough concepts in biology seem easy and understandable. She is always available to help students and her study guides are awsome. The lab portion sucks though! (she does not teach lab)
Passionate and dedicated! Comment below is out of context/inaccurate. In response to question about HIV transmission, Jamie noted the stratified squamous cells of the **** were less likely to tear vs. anal tissues because of the differences in the tissue cells. She took great pains to be clinically professional even when we weren't.
Jamie took a difficult, complex subject and made it understandable AND fun. Very knowledgeable but never hesitated to say she would research our off-the-wall questions and get back to us with a scientifically accurate answer. Yes, you will need to work hard but if you give 100 percent effort, Jamie will give you as much if not more.
Love her!
Professor Vandette is one of the best instructors I have experienced. She is passionate about the subjects she teaches and does everything she can to assure that students master the course content.
Pretty good teacher, makes things easier to learn through her great note system. However, she's relatively sarcastic and rude. Sometimes her humor is not appreciated.
AP is a hard subject. The material for this course is technical and, at times, difficult. However, through amazing preparation and presentation, Mrs Vandette makes the class enjoyable and interesting. Her dry sense of humor is nerdy and cute, but she can come off as a little harsh. Great class, Amazing Professor!
I will be honest at first I did not like her much but after a week and 1/4 of class dropping she was great very helpful and caring would stay to answer questions and try to help all she could.Very good at not answering a ? she wasnt sure of till she checked.Hope to have her again one day great teacher just stick through the weeding out week.
at first she didnt really appeal to me. didnt really seem like she would make a good teacher. but as time passed by i really began lliking her. she was born to be a teacher! shes very well at explaining things and getting them through our thick heads.
This teacher was awful! I feel this class is way to indepth for a intro course. You have so much information passed along, and so many tests crammed together, its hard to keep up. I studied for 3 1/2 hrs a night and still didn't do well. I took AP at other communuity college and passed!
This class was challenging but she did a great job of trying to explain stuff and answered all questions. She likes to keep people interested by using videos and random pictures! She's very straight forward and knows what she's doing. Enjoyed this class and her notes were very helpful.
This instructor fails to understand how the typical student absorbs information. Has an awful tendency to encumber her students with huge practicals back 2 back with crucial exams. Seems to like to keep what she must grade to a minimum and thus the lump-some practicals/exams. Our study group dubbed her the "Red Pen Butcher". Harsh Grader. Beware.
I understand this class is very difficult; it is very difficult to teach. This teacher did not communicate grades through the quarter. During tests we were not allowed to write on the test. She only provided 6 tests to check out to look at what was missed on the test. The class had very poor test scores. She degraded students in front of others.
While the material is somewhat overwhelming I really enjoyed her class and thought she was awesome. She would actually join our study group and explain things to us on her own time in the study rooms. Was always happy to answer questions. Doesn't like argumentative people though. If you're polite she returns it. Recommended.
Micro is a difficult class but could be great if Jamie didn't add stress as a part of the class plan. She is very bright and can be helpful IF she chooses. Often is curt or rude to students. Attendance in lecture is flexible but not in lab. If you ask questions you are often told to figure it out with other students. Test are unpredictable.
This is a correction for the 8/11/11 rating.
She teaches like she the gift to the class. She tries to gross people out with time wasting youtube videos about worms and infections. It all depends on how her day is going and if you dare to question her. She has tenure and will make sure you know it. Just try to be invisible and spend a lot of time on google.com
She is a tough teacher, but she provides you with everything you need to succeed and learn the subject. It's up to you to get the job done. You will thank her in the end. It helps if you like Star Wars :)
Can't speak a single word without looking at her notes. She was degrading when I asked questions. I would recommend taking the course at another college.
Jamie is very engaging but, a very tough and detailed instructor. She will always sit with you after class and explain information but she really expects you to know your stuff on a test. If you are just looking for and easy A go somewhere else.
Terrible teacher. Clearly discriminates against running start students although I was already almost done with my AA in pre-nursing. Always put me on the spot and didn't do much to help me answer my questions, but instead made me feel VERY inferior.
Jaimie Vandette is not helpful. She is chemistry & molecular biology. She has know knowledge basic biology! She is not helpful in class, as you must buy answers with test points. She does not use her textbook, you must study all of her lecture packets and lab packets for test. Her exams are extremely difficult. She is very disrespectful & a bully.
Jamie is incredibly disrespectful and does not adhire to my needs as a student. I'm here to learn, I shouldn't have to have points deducted from my grade for asking a question about material I did not understand. She is always on her high horse. Doesnt cover all material on practicals. If you need 3.5 or above, do not take her class.
Her class wasn't easy; it really forces the student to pay attention, take detailed notes, and study hard for tests. That being said, Jamie is an awesome teacher, very passionate about science. I enjoy her class; I've been studying hard for each test and get good grades. If you're looking for an easy A, don't come here. Come for a challenge.
Vandette is hard! Her class will be the first that I have not gotten a 3.5+ GPA in. But in all fairness, she knows most of the people taking her class are going into the healthcare field & knows how 2 prepare them with applications instead of memorization. She can be rude but you get used 2 it. She gives you everything you need 2 prepare for tests.
She is a wonderful teacher and is very passionate about the things she teach.
Gifted instructor. Great sense of humor. Gives extra credit. A and P can be challenging subject matter--she teaches in a learner-friendly manner. Patient and generous with her time.
Absolutely horrible and disrespectful teacher. Thinks she is the greatest thing on earth but in reality she is absolutely horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!! If you will, you will curse yourself!
I love her she is tough and tough grader, but she made me challenged and pushed myself. her lecture was very clear, if you review the lecture, note, and also answer the questions in every chapter the exam won't be a big problem for the lab project, you really have to put yourself in it. you have to find out most of answers and solution by yourse
So rude ugh if I didnt need this class for my major i wouldnt . she is so rude the test questions are stupid.
Vandette-- best teacher I have even had! Her classes are challenging and many people struggle, but she is well worth all the knowledge you obtain. She doesn't tolerate idiocy, so as long as your trying she will be helpful. She can be intolerant and sometimes rude, but only if you don't put in effort. 4.0 in AP 100, 3.9 in Bio 241, 3.9 in Bio 242.
Vandette is a excellent teacher. I took so much from her classes. She is tough & you have to attend lecture and study hard for her tests. As long as you are working hard, she will help you whenever you need it. She tends to challenge people, and some find her attitude rude. She doesn't mind saying it like it is. So happy that I took her class!
Great teacher, great class. She is well organized, clear, easy to follow. This class is hard, but she gives you great information that will most definitely be needed in the medical field. Happy that I took her class, she taught me so much! She can be rude but only if you ask stupid question or slack off. Do your best & you will get along fine!
speak up (with the right answers) in her class. and don't get on her bad side, she can be quite rude and will put you on the spot. super hard tests also.. otherwise, she was scary smart, definitely knows just about everything about A and P. also don't be late!
Pros: She is from OSU. Not a lot of homework. Cons: The test are extremely hard. 4 or 5 hours of studying is recommended A DAY!! She makes a simple assignments hard. Very rude. Takes point to ask a question about assignment. Put too much material on one test. Treats the class like its a 500 level class. TAKE ONLY TWO CLASS IF YOU HAVE TO. MAKE TIME
She's very tough, but is quite clear in her lectures. She has A TON of critical questions and prefers critical thinking over memorization. The bad thing is that she'll give homework that has questions you can't find in the book or in her lectures. You have to use the internet which is not always reliable. She is quite condescending, too.
At first I didn't really like her, I thought her tests were too tough (Which they are) but I ended up really liking the class and learnt a lot of stuff. I got a 3.7 in the class but I worked super hard for it. Study really hard for the tests, practically memorize the lecture notes she gives you. I would 100% take her again.
There's alot of misconceptions about this teacher but if you go in her class ready to learn you'll get to see that she's very helpful and like a walking text book. She does her best to give us the best education and hates taking short cuts and definitely does not let her students take the easy way out either. Her tests are very detailed, though.
Such a rude teacher. Tests are very hard. There is no homework, only 1 easy project. I studied 6 to 7 hours a day for her class and still did bad. DO NOT TAKE, specially with other classes. She takes off points if you ask questions. Everyone I know who took her class she told them they weren't good enough to be a nurse.
The class is pretty hard but honestly I remember so much from that class. She knows almost everything about the body and her lectures are really interesting. I suggest studying with note cards. Also copy down EVERYTHING in the study guide because a lot of the questions that I would get wrong is because it didn't have a note card for it. TAKE HER!!!
Vandette is extremely forgetful (test dates, lab topic, lecture topic etc), so be sure to rely on the schedule and other people in the class. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. You WILL have a big gap in your knowledge that you can't make up. Answer all the objective questions before a test and study study study and you'll get through the tests okay.
Jamie is a good teacher. This was a very tough class. Tests are pretty hard. She knows a lot stuff and really cares about her students, but that doesn't mean she'll go easy on you.
Jamie Vendette is an amazing instructor! I am very sad to hear that she was not going to be teach BIOL260. The class material itself is hard, but given the right amount of studying and dedication to the class, you will get through it no problem. She is definitely the best teacher to take anatomy with.
One of the best instructors at Greenriver! She really cares about her students and pushes them to be ready for the future. Material is hard but her lectures are amazing and you will get the grade you worked for. Not an easy A but well worth it.
Jamie is one of the best professors at green river! Her test are hard, but as long as you study you should be fine! She is very funny and incorporates humor into her lectures. Make sure you take good notes and try to answer her questions or else she'll give you quizes :)
She's seriously passionate about the subject, and is willing to go out of her way to look up anything you need. She lacks a little in time management, and her classes always go fairly fast, so be ready to take notes like a madman in lecture.
She is very passionate about the subject and isn't afraid to make you feel ignorant. I took an entry level class with her and she seemed to expect us to know everything already. She didn't like to answer questions in class and tests were the only thing that held any weight.
I had her for BIO241 as well. Once you figure out what she wants it is easy to get a good grade. Heavy on memorization and application. She gives you an outline of what you Should know for each test. I never had Diane but from what others tell me Vandette is less busy work heavy and your grade depends more on tests than other homework. Love her!
She gravitates more toward multiple choice tests and if there is a short answer question there is maybe one or it is extra credit. Doe not give much homework so your grade is based mostly of exams. Objective questions at the beginning of each section tell you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Memorization heavy. Would take again!
She has tenure and you're going to hear about it. She is up one day and down the next. She is flippant and can't be bothered, then she is helpful. She definitely has favorites in every class. I took her for four courses : It seems like she is bored with teaching A&P. A little humility would help her. She has awesome power points!!!
I loved Vandette's class! Her tests were super difficult, but all the answers you need are right in the lecture packet she gives out. All the things she taught me really stuck with me and made sense. Just don't skip lectures and study every day. She expects a lot from her students, but most are pre-nursing students, so why shouldn't she?
Vandette is intimidating. However, she's an incredible teacher. She explains difficult concepts so clearly and concisely, and her lecture notes and powerpoints are extremely helpful. Her tests are very difficult, but they are also very fair. Her AP 1 & 2 classes will 100% prepare you for nursing school. Hands down the best AP prof at GRC.
She is intimidating and will correct you when you're wrong, but I learn best when corrected on mistakes. Make sure if you take this class that you have lots of spare time to not only study but to be in open lab to go over bones and muscles ALOT. 5 exams, 2 practicals and a super hard grading scale, all memorization, but expected from this class.
She is the best Biology teacher in GRC, from my point of view. Lectures are clear and helpful. SHe is a great in explanations. She simplifies the material and makes it easier to understand. Her exams are difficult it is true, but if you study, you will pass them easy.
She's my favorite professor I've ever taken here. She gives lecture notes that are amazing! The tests are hard but filling out the objective questions she gives make it so much easier for me. Definitely try it out at least once. But take her for the whole chain of classes, don't jump in in a later class or it will be very hard to keep up.
Gives you lecture notes which outline what the lecture is talking about, it's mostly filled everything the lecture has but sometimes you have to answer some stuff. She gives objective questions for each chapter which are very helpful for the unit tests, just memorize whatever the objective questions ask and you'll get a good score.
Jamie Vandette is easily my favorite Professor. I took her for BIO 241, 242, and 260. As nursing student, I feel she truly prepared me for nursing school. You have to work for a good grade as any BIO class. she is scary at first but if you are a good student she really recognizes when someone is trying hard. DEFINITELY would take her again!!!
Study, do your work, and can consistently be scholarly? Vandette is your kind of professor. Slack off, don't read the material, wait till the last minute kind of person? Well, get ready for a rough quarter. Do the objective question, go over the lecture packet, be on time to lab, ask questions, do work outside of class, and you're set.
Jamie offered twice to come in at 7am so that we could experience dissecting sheep hearts and brains. Lectures are fascinating, but be willing to dedicate at least 3 hours of study per each hour of class. I did and received a 100% in the class. The fist few weeks she's oh so intimidating, but I grew to love her so much. She even brought us candy :)
Jamie is a strict but fair professor, 90% of your grade is determined by 5 exams throughoutthe course. No final exam. Well outlined course packet to follow along with & add additional notes to. You must show up to class or you will not succeed as this course is lecture heavy & everything outlined is on exams. Very much enjoyed learning from her
The exams are based solely on the objective questions on the lectures so focus on that and actually do them. Be in class and take good notes. The only bad thing I can say is that you dont know your grade until the very end when grades are due because she doesnt use online grading. Shes understanding and kind. A great professor overall.
Horrible Teacher
She makes exams so hard and complicated. Lecture packet is needed in order to pass.
She's a good teacher (easy to understand). Each Tuesday theres a quiz (the only hw youll get) for past week's lectures. Beginning of quarter not as many lectures to watch and take notes on but near the end there's more hours of lectures (broken down 20-30min). lecture packet to print (helps a lot with notes). Exams on lockdown but easy open note
Disrespectful toward students. Unprofessional usage of words. Never admit she might be wrong.
Professor Vandette is amazing!!! I loved taking this class and she made the information very interesting and easily understandable. All the information you need for tests is in the lecture packet, which you fill out using the recorded lectures. Tests are multiple choice and open notes.
She hands out lecture packets and just reads what is on the page. Its easy to tune out, but when you do actually might miss something that will show up on HW or tests. This means u have to pay attention for the whole lecture. If you have lots of free time this class is good. If you're busy, don't. Lots of lectures and its very easy to get bored.
Lots of weekly lectures. The lecture packet she made helps SO much. Wish there was more interactive assignments to help understand some of the material better. Quizzes and Exams are open note but do require webcam, lockdown browser. Interesting class.
I enjoyed the material that I learned, however, what threw me off was how inconsiderate the professor was. Basically the only assignments in the class are weekly quizzes based off of the previous week lectures and then unit exams. She doesn't accept any late or missing work whatsoever unless it's like covid related.
This teacher has caused me to write my first rate professor. The most unhelpful, rude, petty professor I have encountered. Tried asking for help multiple times only to basically be told to figure it out myself. Not only that but she continued to try and make me feel stupid as if I was an idiot for even asking for help. Spare yourself the headache
Vandette was my favorite professor ever. I thought she was scary in the beginning then I sat with her on a zoom call and after getting the help I needed, she taught and explained which deepened my knowledge. She's so personable and wants you to learn. Her tests are open note and the answers are literally on the lecture packet. Watch lectures early!
If you want to pass: - Watch 77 lectures (~25 hours total) - Take notes on 180-page 'lecture packet' (WILL NEED to elaborate upon main points with material from the lecture) Weekly HW assignment and 5 tests. Lots of questions found only in lectures, not packet. 25 points EC. VERY NICE (if you are nice to her) and accessible outside of class.
I took her class summer quarter of 2021. Her lectures were great; they helped me get a 4.0 in human biology which had no lectures, & I think I would have struggled if not for Prof. Vandette. I still refer to her lecture packet, the notes I took from her lectures, and the textbook to this day. I wish I could take more classes with her.
Very rude, very unorganized, and is terrible with lectures.
literally the only thing in the grade book is quizzes and test. Lots of material and since it is an online course she is not easily reachable and not helpful. I would recommend watching lectures, reading text book, and taking notes.
The worst professor I've ever had due to the lack of care or interest in her students learning or lives. All Professor Vandette does for this class is press the "publish course" button at the start of the quarter and calls it good. If you have anything going on outside of this single class, DON'T take it. Save yourself your sanity, stay away.
Professor blatantly insulted students, brought people down in class. Made me and my classmates uncomfortable for asking questions and insinuated on multiple occasions to students that its shocking some of us got into nursing school. Lecture heavy. Could have passed the class but no teacher should make someone feel as though they will never succeed.
Professor Vandette's AP100 class is a challenging but rewarding experience. The lectures and textbook are essential, and staying on top of the workload is key. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for me - use it alongside the course materials to excel.
Jamie is a tricky prof to understand, material is similar to 211 but lab is different. The unknown bacteria project and trying to get tests approved is horrid. Create a flowchart of your unknown's to help you. Word your questions carefully. You will LIVE in the lab. DO NOT take other course heavy classes. She isn't forgiving of late work.
EVIL SPAWN, she was the worst teacher I've ever takien. Would pick favorites (guess which one I was). Would make you feel stupid for asking questions and wouldn't give clear answers. Ruined anatomy for me. Was harder than 242 and 260.
EVIL SPAWN. Would clearly pick favorites, and other students pointed out that she hated me. Would make me feel stupid for asking questions and never gave a clear answer. I tried my hardest to like this class but she ruined anatomy for me. Was harder than 242 and 260 combined. Cried on multiple occasions.
Only thing I don't like about the class is her late policy especially the fact that she doesn't accept any late work meaning it cannot be late at all unless you have a VERY good excuse. She did help me out in some situations other then that I do enjoy her lectures but it doesn't help that I'm sometimes busy in the week you should always be free.
Wonderful person. Not so wonderful class. The exams were amazing and structured very well. However no matter how much you studied you would miss something. Lectures were helpful but not very easy to keep up with. Definitely need to study a lot for this class, and however much you think you need, study more.
Lecture videos were recorded between 2020 and 2022 & references to the pandemic, there were also random time when there were buzzing and clicking sounds making it difficult to listen to the lectures. Have to print & fill out a 100+ pg lecture packet & answer objective questions. Lowered my grade from a C in Canavs to a D on CTC link.
