Nice guy; great test review sheets; must study, though, for a good grade. For distance ed, you must also take tests on campus.
I liked the way he teaches. It was straight forward.
Mr. Webb is a really nice guy, but his tests are a lot more difficult than they need to be. I truly read the chapters and have gotten C's. This class is more difficult than I thought it would be and his study guides aren't that great. Consider another course for the science requirement.
He had a good personality and is nice. Makes it hard to hate him for his hard tests!
He's a great guy... a lot of fun and a good sense of humor. His tests are pretty hard... study the study guides and more!!
Mr. Webb was a good teacher and was always willing to help. But, the class was kind of difficult but it wasn't too bad.
Wow...I think Webb was amazing! I learned alot though it was hard to pay attention sometimes because he is just so cute! :-) And I love the way he talks...southern accents are great!

Great personality and you can always get a conversation going with him, but test are difficult.
i took this class online, but wished i had taken the real class, bc jamie webb is so adorable! (i must agree, his alabama accent is sweet!) but still, he's a good teacher, i learned alot
Mr.Webb is great. Very helpful and always offering his time outside of class. This is alot of material to cover in a semester and the test are pretty difficult. He is willing to help and make sure you understand though.
Webb was intimidating at first but throughout the class you did see how ADORABLE and awesome of a professor he was. Helpful outside of the classroom, and really kept his test close to the book. He's great for conversation, and also keeps class very interesting!

Mr. Webb went out of his way to assist students. Obviously, the last student to comment did not put forth the effort necessary to make a better grade in this class. The class was difficult, but it is a college level class.
This class as a Distance ED Class was hard. Mr. Webb was very helpful and he is not the reason why I failed. I failed because I did not put the effort into the course I needed to. Mr. Webb is great teacher. Take him if you are an adult and are ready to be a college student.
if you take this class make sure u take it ON CAMPUS and not distance ed.
I didn't pass the class, but he is a very good teacher. He will help you in anything you need. If you plan on taking this class know that the test can and are hard. You have multiple choice, figures and fill in the blanks. The fill in the blanks do not come from his lectures though to beware
Prof Webb makes the tests way too hard and the questions are very tricky. It's like he does not want anyone to pass the class. Science should not be this hard....it should be enjoyable and it's not. Go for something a little easier. This class is a waste of time and money.
Mr. Webb is a very energetic teacher, but sometimes is not very clear on the material presented in class. If you have any questions he is more than happy to help & will do whatever necessary to help you pass the class
Do NOT take OCE online. It is very hard. The tests are ridiculous and I barely managed to pass them. I withdrawled before the final becuase I didn't think I needed to waste my time studying for something I was going to barely make a D on anyway. Good Luck if you take it!
This is NOT a "beginning" or "intro" calibur class as it listed. The tests do not measure your knowledge of "BASIC" geology. The tests involve much vocabulary, sequences, and extended processes involved in the subject. Beware! This might be why he has so many failures and low grades. I'd be suspicious of too many A's -it's an internet class.(!)
I dont what everybody is talking about saying he is hard. One of the easiest teachers I have had. Keeps it interesting. Fun class.
Very cool professor. Very cute and hot! I just adore him. The material is hard and the tests are difficult, but if you study enough you will get good grades. Prof. Webb is there for you!
Like stated before this class... "The tests do not measure your knowledge of "BASIC" geology. The tests involve much vocabulary, sequences, and extended processes involved in the subject." His homework is easy as cake but when it comes to the tests they just get stupidly hard... the questions are worded bad and quite often just seem pointless.
I took OCE 1001 as a web class. The assignments are VERY lengthy! His test are extremely hard! There is so much to study, he is not a help at all with asking questions! I asked for help b/c the test were so hard and the only thing he could tell me was know your study guide. My study guide was over 20 pags! Horrible Teacher!!!
This Professor is the WORST I've had a Gulf Coast yet. Not willing to work with you on anything!!!!!
This was a horrible class. I was interested in oceanography before I took the class so I thought I would do great. I took his on line course and the study guides were 16-20 pages long his test were tricky and he will not work with you he grades for completeness not for content I skipped mabey 10 definitions and go a 0. Do not take this class. :(
Mr. Webb is great, funny, & knowledgeable teacher. His study guides are long and the tests are hard, EXCEPT FOR THE FINAL. He is ALWAYS willing to help his students. He may give credit for a missed question if your answer seems logical (some of the exam questions are tricky). If you communicate & do your study guide(and use it), you will do well.
Good, funny, and very interesting teacher. He does assign a monster of a study guide for every few chapters, but you can easily do those ahead.
I took both Geology and Oceanography from him and loved them. He's a really interesting guy and gets along well with students. If you have a problem and stick around after class to ask a question, or drop by his office during hours, he's really good about explaining everything you need. Love him.
Mr. Webb provides you with all of the tools you need to be successful. The material IS difficult and he does his best to explain it by providing video lectures, powerpoints, study guides, etc. It is not an easy class because the material is not easy; however, this IS a typical COLLEGE LEVEL class. You must WORK to do well.
What a waste of my time and energy! This professor is awful and I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. He gives tricky tests and is an overall jerk. He teaches his classes as if they were graduate level classes instead of freshman level classes. My friend took this same class at UF and got an A and I worked my rear off for a D. AVOID HIM!
He is an extremely nice and helpful teacher. However his test are very hard and cover a lot of specific material. You really have to spend way too much time studying to actually make a good grade. He will help you with anything you have questions on, and was very prompt to respond to e mails and with grading.
Professor Webb's class is very interesting and I look forward to attending all of my classes because of how great of a teacher he is. Yes, he does have long study guides and critical thinking tests to last time I checked, this is a COLLEGE class. Of course some of the work is challenging. But overall, he is one of my favorite teachers ever.
I did not look forward to taking this class. However, Prof Webb makes it very interesting and fun. I learned a lot in his class. His study guides are long, but if you read his power points and study the guides, you should do well.
Great teacher, and he warns you that the class will be hard, His study guides are a pain in the butt, but very helpfull making you learn the material, if you are looking for an esay A dont take the class, but i enjoyed the class
This class was awful. There is way too much material yo try an remember. There were 18 chapter tests,4 exams plus the final and 4 study guides you must complete with around 500 terms and 150 concepts. I dont recommend this professor.
proff. Webb is extremely clear and cares that all students are able to understand the material. whileinfo may be extensive it is easily comprehendable if you pay attention, if not the book always helps. he is the bomb.
GREAT professor! If you can come to class and listen to his lectures (which can be pretty good) and if you can complete the study guides for each test (which yes, are pretty long) then it's easy to make an A. But if you feel like missing class then go buy the book because that's where he gets his powerpoint info. Overall I really enjoyed his class.
No learning takes place, only jamming terms in your head and spitting them out on the computer. No communication at all from professor execept to say your stuff is due or late. 20 page study guide and only 30% of test questions from from there. He is not involved, you are in this ship alone--no extra credit. Just grab your ankles- this will hurt
Online natural disasters is a waste of time/money. He has no involvement whatsoever, AT ALL. Like a correspondence course, he simply doesn't care about online students. Takes your tuition and leaves u alone. You have NO contact with him. You dont learn at all, find another professor unless you dont mind giving him your money for nothing.
On the study guides there are usually about 100 words to define along with about 20 questions. Miss one definition or question, you get a complete 0. This professor seems to not like to teach especially online classes because he seems agitated when answering back emails. His tests are tricky and hard to understand. He is just overall a bad professor
The class is hard, I admit, but having him in class is way better than taking him online. He is very enthusiastic and interesting when he's teaching and gets to know his students. The study guides are very long and detailed, the tests are hard, but I actually enjoyed this class.
I really wish I would not have taken him. I took him online and it was very difficult. The book and the tests do not coincide at all. his lecture videos are useless. If you want to pass I suggest not taking him or this class.
The study guides are worth more than your test. You could bomb every test and still pass with a high C. It is not an easy A bc you need to pass the final but it's a good course to take.
This class was very easy. As long as you show up to class and complete the study guides then you should have no problems with the class. If you have problems the professor has no problem explaining it so that you will understand. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be involved.
He is very hard even with the study guide on Natural Disasters he is willing to answer your questions but not a lot of interactions. I would not take his class online, not sure about reg class but he was very difficult. I studied 10 hours and it didn't help much.
LOVED HIM. He really made science interesting, even though I HATE it. He was so passionate about earth science that he even made me want to go outside and examine rocks. His study guides are LONG, but easy and really help with the test. I absolutely LOVEDDD him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE!! Take the lecture class. Don't buy the book just use the PowerPoints.
His course was fairly easy just make sure that you do the study guides. Very understanding as a professor and will work with you on any issue I would recommend taking his class.
Mr Webb makes the class really interesting & keeps you involved during discussion! No interest level what so ever before the class but it's actually really interesting. Be prepared to put in work & study time, but once you understand it, it will all come together! Mr. Webb is there to help whenever and however he can.
If you actually take time to study, this is an easy class. I have had him as my professor multiple times and I felt really confident in that class. he always encourages students to stop by his office for assistance. the study guides are lengthy but they keep your grade up. I would highly recommend his class to anyone who takes college seriously.
Hardest class I have ever taken. But he is amazingly helpful and willing to work with you whenever he is available. He is an amazing teacher but it is easily the hardest class I have ever taken. Do the study guides, it will save your grade!
With taking the online course it is really important to do your study guide and watch the lectures. Unfortunately the last 4 chapters don't have a lecture to go with them.
Not an easy A. He was very helpful when I had questions though. The study guides were a pain in the butt and honestly I never used them on the tests. Just the book. I’d put in 4-5 hours each test and still get a B or low C. Not used to that. I got my worst grade when I studied with the lecture vids and powerpoints.
Best teacher i've had so far. Very helpful, bends over backwards to make sure his students pass, and always has a great sense of humor. You definitely have to study hard for his tests but overall the course is easy and interesting!
Went to him for help and he was very rude!!
All around a likeable guy, but maybe expected too much of students. Required study guides for every chapter. Powerpoints can be confusing, and if you take notes you may miss the lecture, sometimes hard to follow. Bring a recorder, read the book, and study for the tests. TURN IN EVERY STUDY GUIDE he gives automatic 100's.
I found this class to be interesting yet very hard. I took this class as an elective, but I definitely had to work for a good grade. He is a very interesting guy and is good at his job. The material was a lot to put down but overall it was informative and intriguing.
Webb is a great teacher. Class grade has a simple setup- 4 exams(worth 10% each), Study Guides(for each chapter, worth 30% overall), and the final(worth 30%). He lectures all class, but he is interactive and funny so it's not boring. Not easy, per se, but he makes it highly interesting. Thought it would be my least fav, ended up being my fav class.
Webb is the best teacher. Super funny, he is pretty laid back expect to do work though. You have to work for your grade. If you go see him he is clear-cut as to what you need to do and is very helpful, take him in class not online. He cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. I would take him again if I had the option. Great teacher!
This is an easy class if you actually put quality time into it. The online lectures were great and well explained. I could've done so much better, but I came to realize how easy it was later, almost at the end of the semester. The communication with the professor was great, he emails/calls back the same day! I actually liked this class a lot.
I took this online Oceanography class. His video lectures are so interesting and funny but he gets off track on things that do not pertain to the class. The study guides are not clear since they aren't graded for correct answers. When I took the first test I actually wondered if I was in that class. Overall if you work hard will do well.
Prof. Webb is amazing. His class was tough for me, because I'm not good at Science, but he's nice, funny, and thorough. Sometimes he gets off track during his lectures, but that's fine with me, because that's when something funny or interesting usually comes up. I'd recommend him to almost anyone.
Jamie Webb has a GREAT personality. I really enjoyed being in his class but he is very extensive in his teaching. The study guides are forever long & the tests include EVERYTHING. I failed his class twice. Great guy. I recommend taking this class if you have interest in the topic, not just to get a credit covered.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take his Oceanography online class; well, unless you enjoy low grades. There is no teacher interaction on weekly assignments (3,000 word study guides), so you never know if your understanding things correctly. His tests are the absolute worst and are fill in the blank. There is no extra credit or help in general.
Mr. Webb was the best professor I've ever had. He's hilarious and made science- my least favorite subject- a lot of fun. Even though my class was a 9:30, I was always excited to go to class. If you show up to class and do the study guides (which are really easy) you'll pass with no problem.
I have never had a professor that gave you a study and if you turned it in you got 100% .Did not grade it so you don't know if you had the answers right or wrong. I didn't know what to study. I will never take any classes he has. Not any good if you ask me....
I had his online oceanography and it was horrible. He was not helpful at all. He does not go out of his way to help his students at all. I Will never take his class again. He was not understanding or considerate at all. I found him belittling and condescending. He doesn't let you make up anything.
Had his oceanography class and I was always so excited to learn more from his lectures. He really cares about his subject and it always made me so enticed to learn more. The coursework is heavy on study guides, but if you're consistent and pay attention you'll probably end up loving the course (like I did) and learn a lot from it.
Lecture for 3 chapters, then proctored exam. No chapter quizzes or other tools to make sure you are on track other than the study guide he requires you to complete and turn in. its a tough class online. I would probably take his class again in classroom but not online.
Not an easy class but well worth it. Read the chapter before the lecture. The lectures are very interesting and bring life to the subject. He will include a question on the exam that is drawn from the lecture only. Know the concepts, not just the definitions. Do not skimp on the study guides; an easy A if you are through. He is very fair. ENJOY
This course could use extra credit or more quizzes to help pull grade up if needed.
Great teacher, very funny, buy 100% lecture and youre only graded on test and study guides.
Very down to earth. Study for tests and you should pass with an A.
Great guy overall! I would definitely take one of his classes again if I could! Study guides are straight forward what will be on the test. He posts all lectures online so you don't even have to come to class if you cant. All tests are multiple choice with few fill in the blanks.
VERY DIFFICULT MATERIAL TO UNDERSTAND. Tests are very broad, study guides will only earn you half the grade!! You have to put MAJOR effort from yourself to pass this class. Would NOT recommend this class. Teacher barely associates with you with the online course.
Funniest and most entertaining professor I have ever had. Goes through the material thoroughly, however, if you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class to take. Always had one of the highest grades in the class and received a B.
If you're thinking about taking this course online, don't. Our test average this semester was typically a 27/60 lol, that's below 50% and he does NOTHING to help, even when asked. No extra credit, no curve, nothing. The study guides are so broad, and graded on completion, so there's no way of even knowing if you have the right info for the tests.
My favorite teacher at Gulf Coast. Took the class on a whim and I'm glad I did. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subjects it makes the classes really enjoyable. He is also one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever had.
NO NO NO!!!
Do NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This teacher doesn't do anything to help you. The study guides are very vague, but the tests are very detailed. The method of teaching is horrible. Your entire grade is based on just study guides and tests. There aren't any activities or other assignments offered to prepare you for the material on the tests.
Take another course if possible! Grades rely only on study guides and tests. Study guides are meant to help you study but are pointless, he does not even give you feedback on them. Tests are way too detailed (nothing having to do with study guides) & have fill in the blanks. A bit harsh for a science class where it is difficult to memorize names.
One of my favorite professors at the college. Makes Earth sciences interesting and ties it into everyday understanding of the topic. Answers canvas emails quickly and gives study guides to help with quizzes and is easy to help bring up your grade.
I thought I was good at earth and space science until I took his online course. The study guides take forever to finish and they are not as in depth as what the test asks of you. I received an 100 in my homework grades but failed the tests because I did not know what to study. Try to take another course if you have the option.
Very hard class! The information covered on the tests are all the little details you don't think to study as well as all the general info over 3 ch at a time! Study guides are extensive!! It is a lot to try and retain!
I took online oceanography & it was the worst college decision I´ve ever made. You only receive grades for study guides & tests. The study guides are completion grades so there´s no way to be sure you´re studying the right info. Tests are lengthy & super specific. They don´t even seem to go with the study guides. Memorize the book & you might pass.
Great person, but the class is lecture after lecture, then a test comes along. He does not give Extra credit even if you are struggling.
This class is a lot harder than it sounds. He lectures every day and gives you a study guide with a list of terms you have to define and bring to class for a completion grade. The terms that you have to study are vague, and the tests are extremely specific. This was the only class I have ever made a C in.
in the online class you watch a lecture (2-4 hrs) & make your own chapter study guide each week (500-1500 wrds) then take an exam covering three chapters. exams are a lot of information in very specific detail 45 mult. choice & 15 fill in the blank questions. fun dude but a very tough class. you can use the book to help the study guides but i didnt
I took this class to get my natural science credit. Its more of a geology class than earth space. The tests have questions about things that arent on the powerpoints or in the textbook. You cant make up anything even if you have a legitimate excuse. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and Missed a test and he wouldnt let me retake it
Its a hard class and you have to read the chapter before and do the study guide to really know whats going on. Hes a great teacher and helped me out with my grade by letting me make up a test and always helping me outside of class when I had a question, I was going through a reallyy rough patch and he was very kind and understanding.
i wish i didnt take this class honestly. He only grades you on study guides and does not tell you if they are correct or not so you dont even know if your studying the correct material. The test are detailed and i didnt think the study guides helped any at all anyways. I would just take a different class if you can.
The hardest class I have taken. I did take it online, which made it tougher but you have to memorize the textbook in order to pass the tests. only grade on study guide completion. I never made more than a 60 on my exams. I think it would be better in person because his lectures are great, but really hard to do online.
Webb can be funny but if you are not good with fast pace stay away from him at all cost. Heavy test grader but does tend to give a few points of extra credit depending on if you have done all the work.
Love this professor. Lectures are in depth, but presented in a relatable way. He does add extra points to your test dependant on if you complete the tasks he asks. All test questions come DIRECTLY from the study guides. The more you understand the concepts, the better you will do on a test. He is always available for questions.
I would not recommend this professor. There a many other kind and caring professors at Gulf Coast that care about your well-being as a student. This seems to be a younger generation of professor that takes his job extremely seriously as a hard grader.
Geology is okay, the subject is very interesting. He gets off topic a lot in his lectures, and the videos can go up to an hour and a half long. You have to complete a study guide for every 2-3 lectures. He claims that the study guide contains all the information you need on the test, but that is often not the case.
Take my advice, do not take this class. From the lecture videos which you have to watch in order to complete your study guides, he seems like a cool guy. However, his test and study guides are extremely difficult and confusing. There is so much information you have to remember for your test, and the study guides do not help.
Prof. Webb made geology so fun and kept the whole class engaged! His study guides have everything you need to know on the test and so do his lectures. He gives credit back on tests if you fix your answers and the final is questions from old tests! Very accessible outside of class and cares about his students!
Oceanography is a deep subject. Study guides are very vague and often don't reflect everything that's put on the test. There's little that you can do to help pull up your grade other than study guides and that's not enough. If you're hoping to get extra credit, you won't be getting any.
One of the worst online classes I've ever taken, and the worst grade I've gotten. The study guides do not reflect the tests, and what he tells you to study in his lecture videos is usually not even on the test. I studied incredibly hard to pass the tests, and never scored above a C.
this professor made me want to die. every module you will have 3 chapters to complete, with each chapter consisting of 3-5 hour long lectures and ending with a study guide to complete. he claimed that the test is just like the study guide but that is a flat out lie. DO NOT TALE THIS PROFESSOR.
This class is supposed to be an entry level course for those in it, and it instead is designed as a mastery course. He uses respondus lockdown browser. He is relatively sympathetic, but overall if I could change anything, I would not take this class again.
Honestly, for a class that I took purely for the enjoyment and the filler credit, I regret taking this class. The only things that were graded were quizzes and tests, so if you do not do well on tests, then you're kinda screwed. The study guides do not reflect the information on the tests. No one got above a 70% on the final.
