Might be the best professor possible. Take him for anything you can.
Is knowledgeble in the subject. Hard grader. A slightly above average prof.
EXCELLENT professor. goes out of his way to make sure you pass his class, ALL YA GOTTA DO IS ASK FOR HELP, so if you fail you're definatly lazy
Great Professor, knows and loves the subject.. but a very hard class if you dont pay attention. His RAs and student helpers need to be better though, they just confused me more.. :-)But he actually made biology fun to learn.. that takes talent! lol

He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I always thought I hated biology before I took this class, but his lectures were so clear and interesting that I ended up majoring in the field.

For a man who looks just like Gene Wilder he is a truly devoted and knowledged prof. He provides such energy-filled and entertaining lectures you'll want to go!
Always ready to help his students.
Other than a bizarre and eccentric lecture style which often focuses on topics unrelated to biology (but many students find entertaining), this class stinks. Eisenbach shows contempt for students. His RAs are disrespectful, stand-offish, and arrogant.
Never take this professor online. This class is so demanding for an online Bio 105 course. He doesn't answer your emails for weeks, he doesn't grade your biology labs, before the next lab is do. He doesn't offer enough time on tests.
THIS MAN TAKES SPEED FOR BREAKFAST. ALTHOUGH AN ENTERTAING FELLOW, TAKES ON TOO MUCH WITH HUGE CLASSES. WITHOUT QUETION, HIS TEACHING ASSISTANTS ARE THE WORST @ E.M.U.
Cold, mean-spirited and insensitive - Jamin Eisenbach and his RA's were an unforgettable experience. Try conversing about subject matter. Or imagine finding yourself feeling insulted by presentations that belittle particular gender or hereditary traits.
TA's suck, studies bugs and acts like them. Strong sense of arrogance, and loves to belittle people.
this guy is crazy, he is very hard to understand, and the class is just boring as can b. his RA's are horrible and they dont help at all, they just make you feel stupid, they all think they are hot stuff cause they are biology people.
TA's really need to reevaluate their ethical standards, and open their minds a little. Biology is a VAST subject which will consume at LEAST 1/2 of your academic schedule in contrast to your other courses; so schedule accordingly!
Although the tests are very hard, the lectures are never boring. This class is very demanding for a 100 level.
EXCELLENT TEACHER. Hands down best biology teacher at EMU. Extremely dynamic and entertaining. Very helpful. Recognizes which of his students work hard and reciprocates their diligence. Awesome meiosis demonstration!!
Undergrads be warned... avoid taking his classes. He is an entomologist but acts like an expert on anatomy and physiology. BE SURE to look for another prof teaching the course.
Eisenbach and RAs couldn't care less about students.
The people who diss Dr. J are the ones who did poorly and never came to class. He's an awesome professor, very smart & helpful.
has a low threshold tolerance for noise. puts his finger to his lips "SSSSSSSHHHHH" - and he means it!!!! the kind of person who would turn a small thing into something huge.
WONDERFUL professor! My favorite professor of all time. Those who did not like him are only showing their unwillingness to make any effort at all or take any responsibility for their learning. If you make any attempt he will do everything he can to help you out. TAs arent the greatest.
It's not an easy class but it was one of my favorites. Eisenbach was a little tough to understand at first but you got out what you put in. He's an awesome teacher and people should stop dissing him. What other teacher is going to jump up on the chalkboard ledge for you?
If you don't like this man, you're crazy! Such a passionate prof!
If you can keep up with him, he will take you for a wild ride in this class! So much energy and enthusiasm! He's like Bill Nye on speed! Prepare to learn more than you ever wanted to know about DNA. Overall, one of my best classes ever. Keep up all semester - no final!
Eisenbach is one of the best if not the best professors i have ever had. VERY interesting, funny, lively and just plain awesome. Highly recommended! Great guy, Great Class
It's hard to understand how a professor and his teaching assistants can be so mean to students. There needs to be more professionalism and decency.
semi-difficult class...awesome teacher! He gets so excited about biology..it is what he lives for. Relates hard concepts to things we can understand better..reccomend the class
He's an exciting professor and made lectures worth attending. Your grade is completely based on your lab partners. If THEY skip a question you get a zero, if you don't staple papers you get 3 points off a 10 point assignment. PETTY RULES that don't reflect your work make for a frustrating semester!!
thank you jamin eisenbach for ignoring my questions....thank you teaching assistants for being unfriendly and egotistical........thanks for making my fall semester at emu an unhappy experience
very clear on explaining everything. A goof teacher who makes things interesting
There are so many students who dislike this professor and the unhelpful negative attitudes of his teaching assistants that it's hard to understand all the previous comments fawning over him.
Very strict, but yet learned much. He's also interesting and keeps you alert in lecture.
This class would be good if it wasn't for the lectures, the teaching assistants, the course work, and the labs.
Great Professor. Kept things very fast paced and interesting in lecture. I learned a lot and really respect him as a teacher. Kindof looks like Gene Wilder?
This is not a good professor and his arrogant teaching style bears this out. Jamin Eisenbach and his RAs put students in tough situations in which they are spoken down to in lab. Take this class and find yourself awash in teaching unhelpfulness and unfriendliness.
When Carly Simon wrote the song "Your So Vain" she was thinking of the nutcase Jamin E. This man sucked in the 90's and from what I read still sucks. To think he was awarded a distinguished teaching award; my what TA wrote the letter? He studies bugs and frankly is a bug.
too many days and hours for one single class. prof eisenbach was ok, kinda crazy at times but keeps you interested. best part was when he climbed up on the chalkboard and fell (: lol
One of the most insane professors on campus, has been sighted pumping iron at the rec. You will be sharing stories about his insanity for years to come. One of the funniest professors I've ever had
No Comments
Is not clear in explaining things and acts negative when asking for clarification during his office hours. His assistants are hands-off.
A little crazy but he made lectures interesting enough for me to stay awake through. Good explanations - hes just very involved and interested in what he teaches, which is never a bad thing. You'll have some laughs, at any rate.
bad handwriting, technologically impaired, but a good guy and enthusiastic teacher.
I think he's a fun guy, the class in general sucks but he makes it a little more fun
A lofty egoist who is down on students who ask questions or visit him during office hours. He scowls at students who visit him in his office. Students are put off by his manner.
worst science professor I've ever taken. Constantly off topic and has no real focus for the class. Immature most of the time especially when dealing with other students outside of class. Shouldn't be in a teaching position or working with other people.
an inflated ego. grad assistants do too.
Dr.Eisenbach gets off subject a lot when he teaches, but when he does it usually eventually gets back to what he was talking about during notes. He uses tons of examples to explain the concept he's trying to get across and he's extremely funny. He's a bit of a perve sometimes during his lectures, but its all in good fun. He's a hoot.

He seemed very unorganized and tended to get off topic alot.
Dr. J is an awesome teacher. If you have ever had as a professor you could obviously tell this man loves his profession. He gives plenty off extra credit, he makes lectures available on-line (how many teachers do that?) Gives many oppurtunities to succeed!!
He is a hard teacher, but he's ta's are harder than him and definitely full of themselves.
In biology, no matter who you take it with it will be a challenge. Dr. J makes it very clear what is to be expected. I am never bored in his lectures because he has so much energy and actually makes me like bio. The lab TA's are awsome if u get the right ones. I'm sure if i didn't get him and the lab TAs i have i wouldn't like the class as much
Egocentric and impersonal, Jamin Eisenbach is one of the worst in the college. This is a poorly run class and Eisenbach does nothing to control his RAs who are unhelpful and think they are better than everyone else.
I like science and I think he is an okay teacher. He is very arrogant and very unhelpful. His TAs are so unhelpful and snooty, it's shameful. He gives plenty of extra credit, but you'll need every single point of it because his exams are insanely hard and overly detailed oriented. He loves his subject, which helps. Avoid if you dont love science.
If you are lazy and out of the habit of studying and working hard for your grades, do not even think about taking this prof. It is alot of work, but not impossible. Dr J is hilarious and has so much energy, you want to listen to what he is saying. TAs can be a little confusing sometimes.
too much work/time for a 4 credit class. lets you drop 1 out of 5 exams and homework has up to 5 bonus points. not an easy class but its interesting enough
Poor teaching and inter personal communication skills
Honestly, he is the best teacher I have ever had. Yeah, his class does require you to think a little bit (god forbid) but I mean what college science class doesn't? He tries to help the class understand the material as much as possible and give lots of extra credit along with TA's to help 4 days a week. He's hilarious and makes class interesting.
Uncaring, arrogant professor whose lectures don't prepare you for his exams. A disgrace to biology.
It's hard to be positive about this professor or class. The teaching assistants are as rude as the professor.
Great teacher! THis is how a real science class should be taught. Make sure to use the homework and quizzes because they will most likely be on the test. Find a TA who you can under stand and you will be fine. Keeps you from falling asleep in class and is funny. First lab i had that didn't confuse the hell out of me.
I can understand why there are so many neg.comments here, judging from the bad grades the majority of my class got. This isn't rocket science kids, welcome to college, now quit whining and actually do the work. First prof. that actually made me feel excited about what I was learning. Even if you dont do well on a test plenty of xtra credit.
I am a good student. Those negative remarks are by hardworking students like myself who want respect and quality education from our professors. Eisenbach does not do this. That's why there are complaints. Don't blame hard-working students who want adequate instruction and are not getting it.
If people are good students then they should have no problem in this class. Dr. J is a great teacher in fact, the best Ive ever had. He gives so many opportunities 2 do well in this class its crazy. His tests are a little tough but that's why there’s tons of extra credit. Btw this is a not so-so student talking. I would happily take his class again
he is interesting to listen to, he talks loud and tries to hold your attention the best he can. try not to take his course with dr winning.
This was not a good class and was not a good experience. I cannot recommend this class.
he was amazing. he made everything clear and easy to understand. he was the first professur that i could listen to for hours and not get bored. i can't wait to take more classes wiht him in the future.
He's like a poodle on crack.
This is one of the most proffesional and passionate teachers at EMU. This class is time consuming and difficult. Schedule only one or two other classes when taking Bio 110 and 120 and you will have enough time to make an easy A (w/all the ex. credit) in this class. I learned incredibly important information in his lectures which made genetics easy
He is so much fun and interesting... He tends to preach about things he disapproves of like antibacterial soap and bleached paper plates, but it is all in good fun.
Bottom line - avoid this class. A tortuous experience on account of a hands-off professor and hands-off RAs who make students feel dumb for asking questions during labs. His lectures are all about him.
A class to avoid. The labs are crummy. Instruction is crummy.
What should be an easy class is made hard by poor instruction and bad labs. A crummy and into himself teacher at EMU. This class is time consuming and difficult.
I put in so much work to learn so little. A bad class because of uninvolved teachers and poor arrangement and bad labs.
Will throw down at movies. Sprays in lecture hall for all of Pray Harold to smell. Must not tell what you have smelled.
A long list of reasons to avoid this class begins with the instructor, his assistants - rude! and unfairness in grading a dismal labs.
There may be professors worse than Jamin Eisenbach, but few so arrogant have worked so steadily for so long.
Amazing prof, in fact, the best ive ever had. Yes he does make you work for your grade but what science professor doesn't. He gives you homeworks that help you along the way and especially on the test. He is a very interesting professor and i wish i could take him again. I have never learned so much and this is an average student talking.
Wonderful Professor! He is so much fun to listen to and is very helpful about going over complicated concepts. The class was great, the lab sucks and is needless boring work but not hard. I suggest downloading and listening to his lecture to study. It really helps!
I took Eisenbach about three years ago when my major was BioChemistry. I went to Eisenbach's office several times for help and he never even attemped to help me so because of him and 10 year...I changed my major. What is the use of a professor if they don't help you when you're the one paying them...life lesson #1!
Made class easier to understand. Very Visual and enjoyable. also very helpful and a biology advisor.
Terrible! I can honestly say I did not enjoy one minute of this class. My brain cells are still screaming in agony.
Not friendly and is thoroughly unable to impart his knowledge to others. By the end of the semester the whole class was both annoyed and frustrated with him, as he was constantly late to class and taught us very little.
Wonderful teacher! One of my favorites! Warning though! If you have had a biology class before you will do well, if not, Eisenbach is still your best chance, but it will be hard. If you know someone that has taken the class before, get the homework from them, it NEVER changes! GREAT teacher and VERY FUNNY! I wish I could take more classes with him!
Hilarious! You will learn a lot. A little difficult, but very straightforward.
Great teacher. Very passionate and shows in his teaching. Fun to have and always relates to real world to keep students interested. Definately wish I could have him for more classes. Homework was easy, and tests were fine if you did the reading. Anyone saying he is a bad teacher obviously didn't try and did bad in his class. GREAT TEACHER!
Large class size and distant professor hinder learning environment. His assistants are the teachers mostly, and he's not helpful in office hours.
I think people who have anything negative to say about Dr. E, probably shouldn't ever take a science class again. He is by far the most comprehensive, professional and helpful science teach I have ever had. The GA's are a nightmare though, they seem like they are there to hear themselves talk, rather than educate.
Use suspension of disbelief and keep your expectations low and maybe you will get through this.
Good teaching style, a little disorganized, but he kept lectures interesting and even entertaining. Was a little too rude to students, though. I mean, I know he has a PHD and is a genius, but the students are the reason he's there and the reason for his paycheck.
This instructor piles on so many gimmicks and hard-to-believe stories that he strains credibility and leaves students in jaw-dropping paralysis.
This guy is fantastic! If you are looking for a blowoff class, this is not it - you will learn a LOT in this class if you pay attention and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. I imagine most of the whiners on here are the idiots who don't follow rules/instructions and then get called out for it in front of 300 kids. Sorry, thats the REAL WORLD KIDDIES! Deal.
One of my favorite professors ever! He is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and explains things well!
Very fun & energetic teacher, will help when needed, test are very hard, must attend class & read book & study, he has a lot of knowledge & lectures are interesting, don't take this class if you have no interest in bio
HES A COOL TEACHER BUT I WOULDNT TAKE THE CLASS JUST FOR THE FACT THAT HIS ASSISTENDES ARE THE RUDEST MOST STUCK UP PEOPLE IN THE WORLD
He is very passionate when teaching. I would recommend going to the study desks if you ever have help because the GA's will help you immensly. When going to Eisenbach's office hours make sure you do not take any of his comments to personal. Sometimes he has his bad days and takes it out on his students. Generally, an easy class.
Very good teacher goofy, insiteful BUT HIS GAS ARE THE WORST THEIR RUDE AND DONT KNOW WHAT THERE DOING!!!!!
His lecture style is all about him, but not informative and worthwhile. The labs are horrible and run by uncaring people.
The teacher knows what he is talking about, but what is lectures is not on the tests. The TAs are not very helpful and are just there to tell you what you need to do in the lab. I think that if the TAs taught what they are suppose to then it would be better, they just tell you the lab is in the book and you do all the work. There is alot of work!!!
Very Hard class...he lectures very fast and makes you feel stupid if you aren't keeping up. Lab sucks...you have to disect a pig, which smells horrid. My GA was awesome. But if you dont have to take this class, DONT.

This was an interesting class, You REALLY have to pay attention and show up for the classes if you want to succeed. He does give a TON of extra credit work (enough to boost your final grade 10%!) The lab work is pretty easy, most of the 3 hour lab classes could be finished in half an hour to an hour if you tried. My TA was fantastic, although some
he was a very good techer I thought. You do have to show up for class but he was very good at answering questions and my TA was also great!
A painful and dehumanizing affair. A torturous and humiliating experience for students to endure. Students are not treated with respect.
I agree that students are treated poorly. We're not animals, were people!
A terrible class to endure. Im writing to warn you. Avoid this class.
Teaching assistants and professor could treat students better. This class may be one of the most difficult experiences one has in higher education.
im not sure exactly where all you people are coming from. yes the material is hard but this is college not high school he's suppose to challenge you and make you think. if you go to him and ask for help he will help you he knows his stuff. this class required a lot of studying but you gain so much knowledge by taking this class.
Eisenbach is very knowledgable he knows the material very well. He teaches with such passion, however; he is utterly rude when it comes to going to his office hours. He treats you with such disrespect. Talk to the GA's at the study desk if you ever have questions they are your best bet. Honestly, though this class is so easy if you just do the work
By far one of the worst professors at EMU. Very disrespectful and enjoys embarrassing students in class. I put all of my time into this course neglecting others and I still got a poor grade. Avoid Bio 105 at EMU if possible and take at community college.
Great professor - very energetic and full of knowledge, not afraid to admit when he doesn't know something. You will have to work a little in this class, but labs are easy and extra credit is everywhere! I had a great TA - rachel bricklin who was very friendly and helpful as well as knowledgable.
He is very smart and knows his subject. He is a bit grouchy and his sense of humor may offend some students, but he is very helpful if you show that you're trying to learn.
Given the importance of the subject matter, one has to wonder how everything about this class is so incompetent.
Students take note. The prof and assistants have an almost chilling way of making the subject matter uninteresting. It's weird, scary, and by semester's end is long in the tooth.
His enthusiasm for his subject can be infectious. His interest actully makes you interested. He spices it up with jokes but not excessively. If you don't want to get called out then put your phone away, stay awake and take your notes LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO. Shut up unless you are participating. Not sure how helpful he is out of class.
He is a fun and energetic teacher.
This teacher is awesome but he can't spell to save his life! And his notes are kinda disorganized but he is a very enthusiastic.
TERRIBLE PROF! Standards of competence and professionalism are substandard at best.
When students are made to feel like second-class citizens, I resolve to do my best to inform you that your feelings will be hurt, your interest will wain, and your life outlook will permanently be sullied.
So monstrously awful that external oversight is warranted. It's amazing how everything is a totally unlikable mess.
Hard exams, unorganized notes, but he keeps class very interesting, he is very passionate about his work. His examples are funny, and really abstract but makes it easier to remember. Must attend class, and do readings, clicker questions count for alot in the end! Graduate assistant was the best, I would deffinatly recommend Rochelle.
Wierd class. Eisenbach teaches second half of the semester and Winning teaches the first half. Eisenbach has funny lectures but unorganized. Tests are very hard during his half even if you are totally prepared. Must attend every class for clicker points and homework assignments. Do well in the first half because he will kill your grade.
Interesting character. Kinda spastic and jumpy, and gets kinda angry if he asks a "simple question" and students don't respond in 2 seconds. Tests are much harder than the clicker quizzes and he expects you to know a lot of the smaller details that don't matter too much.
Crazy man, but interesting. Need to take dilligent notes and MUST absolutely look over them; cannot just take them and glance at them occasionally.
A flipped-out botch of a class and a disaster in every way. This is an EMU cash-cow 'required' stockade of a class, in which students are crowded together and given as much respect as cattle herded to their demise.
I love Dr. Eisenbach, he was really enthusiastic, he was really disorganized but it made lectures interesting and he was really helpful and flexible with helping me out in the class.
Was extremely helpful and fun
It's ho-hum, slapped together; and hard to distinguish from any other drab fare at EMU.
One of the best bio teachers i ever had. You will love his class.
He was a good teacher!! he love his job and you can tell!! He was very helpful and the lectures were never boring because of his great personality.. just doo al the surprise hw and all the lab assignments and youll do fine!!
Bad class. Extremely sub-par quality on every level: labs, lectures, and projects.
Dr. Eisenbach is the BEST Biology instructor I have ever had. It is clear he loves his job and loves biology, especially how it related to humans. Funny sex jokes :P He's very passionate, funny, and makes biology easy to understand! Loved him! Tests can be hard-study A LOT. Do homework-extra credit all over. Ashley rocks for a lab instructor too :]
Somtimes professors and their assistants are a little stand-offish, but this professor and his assistants push disrespect beyond limits.
A deliberate attempt to put students into situations that are demeaning and nonconducive to learning.
Courtesy and respect fall by the wayside. Treating students inhumanely, they thrive on their behaviors, especially in lectures and labs. Students crawl on all fours.
Clunky, cumbersome lab and lecture combination that cheapens life sciences and their importance by way of its execution.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had. Made the class and subject fun, and wasn't cheesy about it. I recommend him if you're going to take in bio classes.
Badly organized labs are a terrible waste of time for students. What one experiences borders on ridicule.
Made lectures interesting used a lot of good analogies relating to what he was teaching. Bio labs are the most pointless things ever though i dread going to my bio lab every week
A terrible thing. Everyone in this keeps heaving and sighing as this painful, draining experience goes on. Labs, lectures, RA discussion, it's awful, just awful.
Awesome professor. Lecture was so entertaining and informative that the information just sticks and only slight review was needed for the exams. Go to class. Do the homework. You have to be pretty stupid or lazy not to do well.
I was interested in biology before this class, but this changed all that. This is bad in all aspects. This class created a distaste of the subject by way of its treatment towards students, and I have taken, but will never take more biology classes.
Hate this class, didn't care for Eisenbach. Lectures at such a high-pace, you miss half of the information. MUCH better than Winning, though. Not as monotone.
This class is a mind-numbing assembly line conveyor belt of bad product. Like Chaplin's Modern Times there's a certain loss of humanity that permeates the whole ordeal.
All I can say is Thank God for Podcasts! talks extremely fast, U CANNOT cram 4 his testS & he wants u 2 dedicate ur life 2 his class He does know his bio extremely well great teacher if this class were 4 majors. Dont take his class w/any other important classes! When you go to him 4 help, he'll expect u 2 explain what you dont understand- SMH
Super energetic and funny with his lectures. He can sometimes be unclear about certain topics or start with specifics then provide the overarching concept. He however incorporates many different teaching methods for different learners. For example using students shoes as analogs for chromosomes to explain meiosis I. Overall a fantastic professor
Oh, come on people. He is a really good professor. He knows what he's talking about and he makes it interesting for non-majors. He is fast paced and im not gonna lie, it is a difficult class but its bio people, its gonna be hard. If you pay attention and go to class, its pretty straightforward. He actually gives out a lot of extra credit!

Fantastic professor, but actually makes you learn things instead of memorizing. Class was tough, but worth it. If he see's your trying, he'll be so awesome to you.
Super hard class, but he knows what he's doing. Help is available if needed, but the work is super time consuming for level of course. He is energetic in his lectures, keeps you awake, and tries to get a tough subject through clearly. I would recommend him, but be prepared for a tough time and lots of work if taking BIO 105.
GREAT instructor. He knows anything and everything about biology. But here's the catch: take minimum classes with this one. He expects you to eat and sleep biology. Requires a lot of your time. I would recommend this course though. Just a lot of work.
Horrible stay away unless you want to spend your whole semester around one class even my lab instructor told me to retake it in the fall with a different professor you will be disecting in this class while in the fall you do not have to. My whole class average was horrible and he did not even base our grades off a curve.
I think about all the hours in lab, discussion, and lecture that I will never get back.
Overall the class was very challenging. You definatly have to earn a good grade in this class. Attendance is not mandatory but necessary for a decent grade. Tests are very difficult but if you attend lectures and understand the concepts, you will do fine. Be prepared to devote copious amounts of time to this class.
A lack of standards and mistreatment of students will have even those with high tolerance fed-up.
Every single part is a gargantuan blast of insanity, especially the lectures, whose screeching, frantic delivery makes you want to clasp your hands over your ears and grimace. What did students ever do to deserve this?
Painful, awful instruction, and that's the good part.
All I can remember about taking his course is Eisenbauch climbing up on the chalk board. He is extremely unorganized, and he cannot speak clearly for a second. STAY FAR AWAT FROM THIS PROFESSOR!
He was the worst at keeping on track with the lesson, my class was so far behind because he would reteach the same material and the class would get no where then we wanted the class to do extra reading to catch up for his mistakes. Do not take a class with him unless your interests are wasting money and time
Spoiled my interest in biology. A terrible experience from start to finish.
this was the worst experience ever...i did well in my lab but couldnt pass none of the lecture tests...smh...this was terrible...4 credits wasted!! i heard the other bio teacher is alot easier than Eisnebach...plus he has adhd..stay away from this maniac of a professor!!
I was surprised to see these reviews. Dr. Eisenbach is high energy, but this actually helps me concentrate rather than causing issues with understanding the material. He is humorous and engaging. Some homework assignments are long but I found them useful to understanding the material. Overall a good professor. Good at explaining bio concepts.
Loved bio until this class
I was terrified about this class b/c of the other comments but I'm happy that my fears were wrong. He is a GREAT teacher, makes class fun & lectures interesting. Gives a lot of extra credit. Go to his office, he's very helpful. His lectures may seem unorganized at first, but it's easy to get the hang of it & take good notes. Study & you'll be fine!
Mere words cannot describe the sheer inanity on display and the dehumanizing treatment students will experience from professor assistants in lab.
Unwilling to work with students who have unique circumstances. One student asked on the first day to take the final early b/c he was getting married. No. One student asked to take an exam early b/c she got a new job after being out of work for a year. No. Lots of points based on lecture attendance. Not helpful for working professionals.
The worst organized class EVER. I never EVER thought I would survive past the first few weeks and didn't. So much disconnection from the lecture to the lab packs to the exams.I felt like Iws in 4 differnt classes with 20 different lab assistants. The class approach was fascist, dehumanizing and denigrating. Felt like the class was designed to fail
Please do not waste your time or money with EMU's science dept. The care more about their buildings being refaced thn the ropagating human value and learning excellece. Take this class at a community college level where Eisenbach isn't at. He's a nice man in person but is too much of a control freak to actually TEACH!!!!!
Awesome teacher! Awesome class! Took this class to learn the basics of Biology - no it was not EASY - anyone who attends lectures regularly and studies will perform well. Teacher is well organized and presents material in a concise manner relating concepts to everyday life. If you are interested in 'learning' then this class is for you!!
The class was hard, but so much fun. The key is to collect insects over the summer like he says to! When the semester starts you will go on field trips, frolicking in meadows and fields collecting insects, could you ask for more? Besides, the lectures rock and there is no term paper!
A terrible experience made that way on account of prof and assistants and the way they act.
Never has a class made me feel worse about myself and where my life is going.
Prof is clearly very excited about the subject. He rewards students who bother to show up for class 'suprise' hw is assigned...if the hw is completeted according to his guidelines, bonus points are awarded. Almost all hw answers come from the text. 5 tests are given and he counts your top 4, bc of this i did not have to take the final :)
Your biggest life mistake. A painfully bad class in which enormous amounts of time is wasted in a crowded lab waiting for others so you can find information on the wall.
Avoid this at all costs. It was painful and unsatisfying and I have nightmares just thinking about it.
Show up to lecture and lab, do the work, study just a little and you'll be fine. You need to have a good relationship with your lab instructor and pay attention. Class is easily passed.
He is easy to listen to and follow. During class it all makes sense, but the tests are very challenging and tricky questions. It is also difficult to take notes from his lectures because he is all over the place and not very organized. I enjoyed his enthusiasm during class.
He is a fantastic professor who cares about his students learning and has a real passion for biology. He makes the class so much fun.
Go to lecture, take notes, and you will do fine in this course. The exams are very reasonable and questions are straightforward.
A horrible class and overall horrible experience. A universal unfairness permeates the whole ordeal, as students are forced to fight for coveted spots on field trips and in labs.
Nothing makes sense and it's sooo unclear. Several lab instructors don't do anything to help and students are dehumanized for asking questions.
An unorganized mess taught by a bad instructor.
People are saying he was hard. While he is at first unorganized, he gets into a pattern that is just fine. Don't be put off by his eccentric energy, when politely approached he will be so helpful when answering questions. Is interested in the students' success. Go to class every day, review your notes from the day before, and you will do fine.
Not helpful at all and downright arrogant. His assistants are no better. This whole thing just stinks!
The tests are super hard and the way they are worded are really confusing forcing you to pick the wrong answer. He's funny but there's a ton of points in the class and its graded really hard.
He was a little unorganized. Sometimes all over the place. He gives a lot of examples using insects and other animals. If you take good notes, study and listen to podcast you will do fine. Just don't give up like a lot of students do.
Despite the relative difficulty of this class (it's a weed-out class, so this is to be expected!), Dr. Eisenbach does a fine job of making the course material understandable even to those (like myself) who had no prior experience with biology. On top of this, he is both amusing and remarkably relatable, in no way 'above' interacting with students!
Avoid by all means. He's like a child and makes it hard to focus on the actual content of the class. His buddy Dr. Winning is just as bad. Just avoid taking his course. ou MUST do well in the lab to pass
the class is extremly boring and he dose not offer additional help. with that beign said he is a jerk also and even though he might come off nice its a front. in addition the test are the only thing graded and the extra credit must all be righ to get credit AVOID THIS CLASS BY ALL MEANS!!!!!!
A horrible experience. Miserable instruction and lab help.
He is a very good teacher and he likes to keep his students interested. He talks a bit fast but that's not really an issue. But beware you have to start off in the very beginning by doing every reading and taking solid notes. I didn't do that, and now I'm doing bad in the class, But that's nothing to do with his teaching style. Just record him
He will grade everything based on how he feels about you. If he doesn't like you, you're done. You're finished. Even if you know your stuff I averaged high b's on exams and I ended up with a c because everything that was written he failed me on. He acts as though we are graduate students even though it's an entry level class. Lighten up.
Dr. Eisenbach is extremely helpful whenever you have a question. He gives a lot of examples and tries to keep you interested in the material being presented. He has a wonderful personality and is an extremely engaging speaker. There is a lot expected of you in this class but he will help you achieve the grade that you want. Excellent professor.
class was harder than expected, started with 400 students a lot dropped out, and majority of people in the labs had a really low grade.
Horrible professor, I have only had him for two days so far and he is completely insane. He acts like a fool during lecture, he talks extremely fast, and he does not stay on topic. He also does not explain what certain terminology means. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Do yourself a favor and find a different bio teacher.
He's a very nice guy and tries to help the student but the students are not helping themselves and that's why they find the class hard. He is very enthusiastic and gives multiple examples. Love him #eisenbach
The class is terrible, the book and lab book do not provide any valuable information when looking for answers to worksheets. The exams are hard, he's hard to follow, he talks fast and gets off track easily.
I've taken and succeeded in a number of Biology related courses that discuss the introductory topics brought up in BIO 110. Dr. Eisenbach and Dr. Winning are the most difficult, unclear professors I've experienced in my years at EMU. Their lectures don't show what's on the test and the book does nothing for you. Thank god I aced the lab.
He is a very interesting and fun lecturer. He does jump around a lot so if you are a linear thinker like me then you might get a little confused at times during his lecture. He likes to use pictures a lot more than just defining the words and concepts which I didn't like but got used to.
Very dynamic style of teaching. Each lecture had mini quizzes so attendance was required. Homework wasn't frequent but definitely made understanding the material easier. For the amount of information covered in the class the tests seemed relatively easy. Expect to do reading each week.
I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone and advise avoiding his class if possible. He is not very kind and has an arrogant streak. When he gives you tips, he's very blunt and has no regard for talking about you mistakes in front of others. He is very disrespectful. His grading was fair but he was not nearly as helpful or clear as his partner.
Eisenbach is not a bad professor, in fact he's very interesting and is really into what he's teaching. I didn't find his portion of the class that hard, but his exams were not straightforward so you really have to know everything
He is something very hard to understand. He tends to get off topic really easily and takes a long time to get to the point. His hand writing is really hard to read. Very hard to keep up with him.
This class fails on so many levels. A complete lack of concern for students is the problem.
Took with Eisenbach and Winning. Eisenbach was a bit difficult to comprehend at times because he got off topic easily. Really hilarious. 4 exams and a final. Gave a decent amount of homework.
I had Dr. Eisenbach for lecture. He is very easy to listen to and he makes class interesting with his examples. He makes you work for your grade, but he is an awesome teacher. He loves what he does, and if you have any questions after lecture, he encourages you to go to his office hours. This really helped me. He is the best teacher I've had yet.
I loved Eisenbach so much. I was always so excited to go to his class and his was the only class in my first semester that I didn't skip. He posts all his lectures' audio recordings online too so if you do miss class, no biggy! One thing I didn't love were his clicker quizzes everyday but they were only five points with an extra credit question.
Having two teachers for a Biology class is already stressful enough especially since he was one of them. He was kind of rude and the exams were so unnecessarily difficult. I would not recommend taking a class with him.
He really loves the topics and is excited to present the material. He covered the material well. It's a lot of lecture, but he makes it interesting. You have to try in this class, but if you do it's fairly easy to get a good grade.
I enjoyed Dr. J's class but it was not easy. The material is dull but he is passionate about the subject and energetic during his lecture. I highly recommend attending all of his lectures as he tends to reward with extra credit opportunities. Exams are difficult.. you'll need that extra credit.
He's a great teacher, but he will not do the work for you. You must study very effectively for his quizzes and tests. There are clicker quizzes everyday so make sure you review the notes from the previous class and go over subjects that you guys are about to learn that day to do well on them. Don't only use your lecture notes, study from the book!!
If you do not have an interest or understanding of biology do not take this class. He is passionate about the material but his lectures are all over the place. There are 4 exams and an optional final. The exams were very difficult and cover a lot of information. I wouldn't take this class again or recommend it to anyone.
Enthusiastic, makes everything relatable and easy to understand. Biology was miserable for me, but he made it a little bit more tolerable. He was VERY organized, and he is able to end the lecture with a cliffhanger that actually makes you excited for the next lecture. He's known for his enthusiastic "BUT!"... You'll understand what I mean.
The class is really interesting if you love biology. He uses a lot of real world examples to help remember things and makes things fun. Five exams are taken, but only four count towards your grade and there are clicker quizzes every day.
Everytime I had a question or didn't understand something, he would just look at me like I'm stupid. I dread asking him anything honestly. He's the kind of teacher who actually expects you to spend 3 hours out of class on homework for every credit hour. He was not good at teaching and gets distracted by every little thing.
Not a hard class if you are willing to put in the work. The lectures are overall pretty interesting and he is very enthusiastic about biology. The exams can be tough but definitely passable if you study hard enough. He gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities and there are a lot of points for the semester which helps for grades.
Eisenbach is incredibly enthusiastic but that is what makes his class fun. He does tend to go off on tangents but they are interesting. He is available for office hours. He tend to match his white board marker to his shirt. Its interesting.
The material is hard but he makes it easier to understand with fun examples. He's good at condensing what's in the textbook. His homework assignments are manageable, probably less than 45 min a week. There's daily iClicker quizzes so it's really important to show up to class and get those points.
Eisenbach was an interesting Professor. He really makes you work for your grade, but he is VERY passionate about biology. Tends to go over the time limit of class, gets kinda angry when you don't understand material. GOES VERY FAST. Don't steer clear of this prof, but do your research and be ready to be knees deep in homework.
Hes a great guy when you get to know him. Just tough
Very harsh course and its really hard to pass if you dont read the material. Theres lots of homework and its kind of difficult to bring your grade up if you miss assignments. Hes a really energetic professional and keeps you engaged.
Eisenbach is a great professor! He is very funny and his lectures are entertaining. You can definitely tell that he is passionate about biology. The class contains five exams, with the fifth (the final) being optional. The best four exams count. There are daily clicker quizzes that are based off the textbook reading and previous lectures.
Dr. J was the best proffessor Ive had. Hes so energetic and passionate about his job. He really tries to make sure that you understand the material. However, his class is not easy. If you do not have a real passion for biology do not take this course. He will throw a lot of information and you have to be prepared to receive it.
PAY ATTENTION IN HIS CLASS! Jamin is a good teacher but he flies through his lectures quickly and if you dont write quickly (or record the lecture) you will definitely miss information. However, I admire his passion for biology and respect the amount of work he puts into his class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Eisenbach! Material seems to move a little fast sometimes, but if you show up to class and take good notes, you will be fine. I suggest going to SI sessions as well because they help so much. There are 5 exams, but one of them gets dropped. I would take one of his classes again since he is so passionate about what he does!
Dr. Eisenbach is the most respected professor in the biology department; however, this comes with him expecting the most effort from his students. As long as you attend and follow along in the lectures you will do fine, but he is not a "blow off" professor. He also encourages the use of outside resources for help, and they have been very useful!
If you dont study , go to the S.I sessions, take good notes you wont pass. This class is the opposite of a easy A. He has daily quizzes which if you miss class you get zeros on them. A very difficult class wouldnt recommend
Eisenbach is the type of professor who says you should study at least 3 hours every night to pass his class, and he wasn't lying. If you don't show up and take notes, you won't pass. He has clicker questions every class period and typically run through out the whole class. His exams were also pretty tough if you didn't study well enough.
I took this class twice
Dr. Eisenbach was my first biology professor at Eastern. He is incredibly kind but expects you to give 100%. Do not show up late, if you do, sit in the back or he will stop lecturing to ask you to sit in the back. Clicker questions every class period. Study every night, work hard, take notes, show up. Do these things and you will pass with an A+.
