He speaks english, is fun, and teaches the easy way...what else can you ask for.
Challenging, but very clear prof. He makes it easy to understand.
he is a jerk
Yo, very clear. Take notes and do HW, and get A.
fairly easy class... tells it like it is
No Comments
If you offer to do pushups you will probably get an A.
Best Math Teacher I've ever had...Made things simple yet taught us a lot! Make sure you get for 112 and 111!
Great guy, funny, light hearted class, very easy, dosen't take attendance
i hate this mofo
He totally changed my view of the math dep. Espically after Dundzilla. He teaches the material extremely well, and test only on the basics. Best math teacher i have had yet!!!
Half the class failed. Although the subject matter is not easy for us non-math gurus, it didn't help that he rushed and this course can leave you catching up from the begining with Collins. Tests excluding the final are difficult and he is a hard grader
A great teacher. The best math teacher in the whole school. Jan is the MAN.
The Man! probably the most down to earth teacher on campus. And probably the biggest smart ass too!
Good teacher, relaxed atmosphere. Not the easiest subject for some, but if you're willing to do the work he's a great teacher and you'll get an A.
The Best teacher, and a great guy to know, funny and I had the best time in his class, but the work is hard though b/c it's Calculus but by far the best teacher
He goes to fast, and once your behind it is hard to catch up. real smart ass too. the only good part about that class is that he doesnt take attendence.
Calc is hard but just pay attention and ask questions.
Pretty decent teacher. Can be a bit funny when he's in a good mood. He just seems to be partial towards females. He literally jumps at the opportunity to help a female out. Overall, he's fair in assessing performance.
Not a very good teacher at all. Calc is hard and he doesn't make it any easier. Does problems different then book so his answers are different from the books, hard to know if you are correct or not.
great guy who teaches on a personal basis. Failed the first two tests and he actually bet me to do well on the last two. I aced the final so he gave me a "C".
He picks favorites from the first day. If you aren't one of his favorites, expect to struggle. He is worthless if you go in for extra help. A "macho-type" person. Only positive is that he explains math with some quality
he is a jerk
Great guy, tough class but he makes it fun by his lectures. Funny guy, but get on his good side first day and it'll help you in the end. Tough class thoguh so don't slack off.
Incredibly bad teacher, didn't help you at all. Very hard class and he doesn't make it any easier for you
I hate this man.
ok, not too bad, not too good!
Hard tests, cool guy, and he knows his stuff.. dont ever try to prove him wrong.
Collins is a great guy. He speaks in Laymen's terms when it is necessary. He won't go out of his way to help you, UNLESS you ask. If you ask he will help you until you understand. BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!
Had him for 111 and 112, Hes great if you already know the material otherwise look to the tutor lab to really learn the material. Kinda an ass and def get on his good side if you can it will help you out if you do.
He made me do pushups for forgetting my calculator. One time I arm wrestled a kid to pick what day the test would be on(due to a disagreement). Fun class, not that hard. Grade is based on 4 tests including final and 5 homework problems done on the board.
Great teacher, fun classes. Homework on the board.
Awesome teacher! teaches and makes sure you know what was taught. homework gets put on the board which helps final grade. and great guy all around. just be ready for pushups if you forget your calculator!!
Very fun class to come to in the mornings, never fell asleep. Best teacher besides my old geometry teach H.M. Nutt. Walked away with great confidence in calculus, thanks.
Tough class, but he knows his stuff, very smart about all subjects. study for the tests and go to the tutor lab,
Awesome teacher, wouldn't mind taking another class of his again.
His algebra class is a piece of cake. Gives you a free 50 points for "class participation" which if you don't understand you can copy someone else's homework and put it in the board. His class is really funny and he doesn't pick homework.
he sucks......
great teacher, he makes math fun, he has students due pushups and stuff like that. I've struggled throught math at this university and collins is by far the best math teacher at this school
I had to take 112 a few times. that was my fault though. He is a tough teacher you will learn. Do the homework that is key. The tests are not to hard. For the final, he never has any of the answers be ...NONE OF THE ABOVE.
I dont know who these people are taking, this guy is a joke, he makes jokes his test are nothing like homework or examples, he wont help you tells you to go to the tutor lab, unless your a girl....Dont TAKE, this guy will trys to flunk people....Unless your a girl
Refuses to help athletes. I had to be gone for a week for the NATL TOURNY. He said i cant go!! And refused to help me. I dropped him. Are you kidding me, what a ****ing **** I hope Jan reads this he is a total douch, with a horrible sense of humor that he tries to use to much
The BEST math teacher at Riddle! His explanations were always to the point and made it easy to understand the concepts. The guy is a riot and I always looked forward to going to his class! Homework grade is based on doing any 5 problems on the board. Highly recommend this guy for any math class!!
he is a good math teacher but doesnt cut you any slack, and test can be pretty hard, he gives you easy HW but then the problems on the test are really hard, Hw is not collected and if math comes easy to u..take him if not find someone who can help you..cause hes not to good at that
If you like to get humiliated, take a class with this professor. He cracks on EVERYBODY in the class. :-(
Collins is a GENIUS! Not only does he know calculas, he knows pretty much everything about everything. Awesome sense of humor and he loves to crack on the dumbasses in class. He makes calculas easy and fun. If you can't learn from this guy, you can't learn. Much better than that scrap Forughi!

He is one of the best Math teachers at this school. He presents the material better than any other math prof. Keep up though, he doesn't check homework so its easy to not do it. His tests are not hard if you do the work. If you show effort in class, he will bring it to your favor at the end of the semester, especially if you are doing badly.
I use to LOVE math until I took his class. If you like to over-achieve or do your own thing, then it will be a fun class. He tries his best to make you hate math and he does a good job at it.
dont like him
Me being your average C student, this was the hardest damn class I ever dropped. Jan's class is one of those what the hell is going on type classes. Unless you have already taken calculus and are good at it id stay away if you plan on passing. His name is Jan. That should tell you something...

Collins is great - his class is pretty chill, laid back, and he makes a hell of a lot of jokes on people. Be sure to turn your cell phones OFF in his class, or else he'll answer them! He's already done it to two people within 3 weeks of college starting...Most importantly of all, just stay positive, and you'll do fine.
lol, MA111-112. This class was great, turn off your cell phone. I remember this time he actually answered a kids phone in class when it was ringing. That kid had some explaining to do to his GF when Jan got off. Just do the home work and pay attention you'll be fine. Oh and the answer is never none of the above on the final
i hated this math class i stopped going 6 weeks into it
I really don't like math, so, needless to say, I hated this class. But, if you have to take the class (like me), Collins is the one to take it with. Math isn't easy, but Collins' class will help you pass better than the other ones. He makes the final exam. (And yes, his 112 class wasn't my first at Riddle.)
Collins Is the Best Teacher. He knows the material, and he lightens the class. You will laugh the whole time. Take collins for all the classes he offers.

Listen to me... Mr. Collins is absolutely the best math/algebra/calculus teacher that I've EVER had. He has a tremendous teaching style. You'll laugh all the way through the semester and learn a lot as long as you're not a slacker. If you are, he'll pick you out pick you apart... rightfully so! He doesn't accept any B.S. so if you're lazy, LEAVE!
up front teacher, relaxed yet fair grades, overall one of the best math teachers I have had
Nice Guy. Exam is very easy. Recommended. But he seems he does not like Asian students so much. I am from one part of Asia and he never helped me and other Asian students. But Exam is covered from all homework as I said very easy class! Listen to his lecture and come to the class. you will get A or B.
I am a terrible math student, but he managed to get me by with a C. no real reason to write any more, hes the best math teacher on campus.
If you wanna learn MATH, this is ur guy. You can't get more fair than Collins.
Very good teacher, Math isnt easy but he makes it so you can understand it. Even if you havnt taken algebra in a long time, he explains every step. Made the class easy and fun. He picks on everyone and makes the time go by faster.
This Professor is one the worst that i have ever had...He is horrible and eexplains nothing at all....all he says id "this is review this is review" Ok so lets review it dont just hand out crap and exect us to remember damn....explain things...worst teacher ever..but he is very funny!!!
Honestly one of the best math teachers I ever had. Writes problems out step by step on the board while explaining it. Very funny too, keeps the class awake and involved. Collins rocks, take him.
He is the greatest!!!!! Highly recommended
Crazy teacher. Tends to shout alot, but I enjoyed his class. Make sure to not show emotion and you can avoid being embarassed by him. Also, do not discuss your personal life in class or he will make it a living hell.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. Just finished Calc with Collins and enjoyed it. The guy is interesting, keeps your attention and manages to teach you all at the same time. People that take his jokes seriously should work on their social skills. Bottom line...if you want to do well in 112, take Collins! Show up & youre fine.
Best math teacher on campus. He loves visitors so make sure you bring friends.
Good guy on the outside. Teaching style is so-so. Course material is a little hard for the non-AP or engineer types. Homework isn't mandatory, but you will suffer if you don't do it. Loves visitors and side stories. Overall, just average.
I took Collins after reading good reviews about him on here and ended up dropping his class. He is an OK guy but his voice and his shouting in class got really annoying over the course of the semester. Attendance is not taken and HW is not collected/graded. Practically trips over himself to help the ladies, tries to make guys look stupid. Hah
Great teacher. Gets your attention and teaches good. The homework is not collected or graded. Just have to do 5 problems up on the board by the end of the semester for full homework grade. I thought his class was fairly easy. I didnt really use the book but the supplement is very helpful. Take his class if you have the chance.

Great teacher... base you classes around him.. never learned more in all years of math.
He's an OK guy but as a teacher... I have had better..
Great/Funny/tries_to_be_serious Professor, will not only teach you math, but how to put your socks on and how to make words British. Avoid Oh-Shits and do 5 problems on the board, gives you the tests to study before hand, easy A!
This is not a complex math course and he doesn't teach it like one. He shows you the basics and is more than willing to put extra time into helping you. He doesn't take attendance so if something comes up you can "strategically" skip class to get other work done. Oh yeah and he is pretty funny too.
Thirty years later, Jan Collins remains the best teacher/professor/instructor I have ever had. He's always had the rare knack of transporting the knowledge in his brain into others' brains with ease.
If you took Calc in high school, as I did, this class is a breeze. Aside from that, he's awesome. He's funny as hell, and he's a great teacher. He simplifies everything to the most basic form possible.
He was funny, yet informative.
If you struggle with math, do NOT take this guy. Homework is not required, and neither is attendance. No homework may sound awesome, but it severely hurts your grade. I do not recommend this guy for people who need assistance with math.
Probably one of the best teachers at ERAU. He's head of the tutor department, which explains how natural it is for him to teach. Many people struggled in the class, but thats because they didn't understand pre-requisite material. Collin's isnt there to reteach you MA112 or lower. He's an excellent teacher and made calc and derivatives easy.
Collins is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes math easy to learn. He won't bore you with lectures. The optional attendance is great if you already know the material or have an emergency. He has review days and helps out during tests. That doesn't mean you can slack and pass.
Mr. Collins is a great math teacher. He gives the lecture in a way you will understand. Although there is no extra credit or a test retake, he is still a good teacher. I would only take if you like math!
Amazing Prof! Very Engaging! Do his homework faithfully n get up on the board to get extra credit! Enjoy the teaching and you will do well. Try your best to show up, its math... Tests r somewhat straight forward! Really funny prof loved him. Also loved the calculus content too...! highly recommend. I Dnt think i got less than 100%. but i love calc!
He is a really nice professor. Class is pretty easy. He is also really funny.
I did not like the way Mr. Collins taught his class. I understand that he enjoys picking with students and having fun, but I did not feel comfortable asking questions in his class.
Collins is a very poor professor, although he is hilarious as a guy. His class is very dependent on 3 test grades, and homework doesn't count towards a grade nor does he give quizzes/extra credit. Spends most of the class picking on the sports kids while being confusing about the course material. Unfortunately he's the only guy who teaches MA220.
Professor Collins is a great guy and a good teacher. However, if you have never taken Calculus or Advanced Algebra you will struggle in the course. Your grade is made up of 4 test including the final (400 points) and homework assignment (50 Points) so he is test heavy. Get your homework done and go to the board early in the year. Good life lessons.
Collins is pretty good. Very clear on the material, explaining it in simple terms and showing you the steps. Never anything surprising on the exam, but you have to do the work in class and pay attention. Also do the homework because it counts for points. He can tell some jokes in class and stuff but it's all harmless. Can't really meet with him tho
Very good Professor! His grading consists of 450 points (4x100 tests and 50 homework). Get on the board early, homework is not mandatory but you have to get on the board 5 times to earn the maximum points. I don't recommend this class/professor to anyone who struggles with math and doesn't want to practice regularly and on time.
Solid choice. He's very sarcastic and laid back, which is good or bad depending on your humor. Great free points if you go up to the board and do homework problems. Attendance isn't mandatory but absolutely go to class if math isn't your strong suit. Almost your entire grade is made up of unit tests, so know your stuff on test day.
Worst instructor ever! Will flirt w/all girls. Will deduct points if you are a Jock/Alpha Male. Believes he is the funniest guy he ever met. Spends more time w/jokes than explaining math material. Speak out against his behavior and bad teaching style at your own risk! Get on his "Hit List", you will get 50% credit for the correct answer.
