Very easy class. I expected it to be very difficult but as long as you show up and take notes it is exceptionally easy.
This class is relatively easy. You are graded on your attendance and scripture study, so make sure to do both! She really clarifies a lot of confusing doctrine. She is kind enough to test on what we actually talked about in class, not just what was on the syllabus. That was great.
I love Dr. Martin!! She seems to care about her students. I love the direction that she takes her lectures and explores new things about the gospel that you might not have thought about before. A few assignments here and there but nothing too hard. The tests actually cover what she teaches in class.
Easy class! If you are an english major who loves writing (& is great at it too). This is also a great class if you can control revelation, don't mind doing assignmentsreading 7 days a week & like memorizing quotes. She always changes her mind so don't trust what she says in class. To top things off the study guides are completely useless.
Sister Martin is an amazing teacher! She teaches the concepts rather than the storyline. Classes are discussion based and rely on the concepts on the chapter and different prophet quotes that she has. Because class is once a week reading is extensive but the class is amazing! I highly recommend it to those truly interested in the gospel.
Sister Martin is a moving target. She tells you something in class but if you email her for clarifications then tells you something else. She should be an English teacher and not a religion teacher.
Professor Martin is wonderful! But this is not an easy A. If you get an A, you earned it by attending class, taking good notes, having quality DAILY scripture study and following the instructions for assignments PRECISELY. It's all laid out though, so look at the syllabus and if you don't think you can do it, then don't. I learned SO MUCH.
I love Dr. Martin. Seriously, she is so amazing you walk away from class having something new or a new perspective about the gospel. She knows her stuff and is super spiritual. Only 5 two page assignments. Reading and attendance is your grade. Come to class. Read EVERY NIGHT. Read the quotes for the tests. And you will get an A!!
I love Sister Martin. She is so qwerky and I love her personality. I felt the Spirit countless times in her class and she is there for her students. However, I actively participated and met with her outside of class and she never knew my name. Also, be prepared to memorize A LOT of quotes and random church history facts. No study guides either
lectures are super spiritual, and tests are open scripture(easy). you do have to write a few two page papers on a scripture you read, and how you applied it, but overall its super easy. she is super nit picky on the formatting though. I had Merrill the semester previous, and this class was WAY easier. I got A's in both, but tests were so mucheasier
to be honest way too much work for a 2 credit class. I wish I had found a different teacher because she seems to be confused in the fact that she isn't teaching an English class when it comes to grading her essays and her personal study requirement is a little over the top.
I absolutely loved Sis. Martin and her lessons. Classes didn't feel like lectures. Taught concepts instead of storyline but always made sure you understood the storyline and how it fit in. She knew all the students by name. If you needed help you could go in after class and she was more than willing to assist and help. Loved her. Would take 2.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Way too much work for a two credit class. Her lectures are alright, but her class demands way too much of your time, and her grade scale is tough. You'll spend 3 times as much time working out of class as in class. If you have a part time job, and an otherwise full class workload you will not get an A and still get sleep.
There were no tests, only two very lengthy writing assignments, one of which was a 2500 word research paper. Thus, lectures seemed pointless except for the participation points. The required daily scripture study is a bit ridiculous too. You can get a lot out of her class, but if you are looking for an easy A, keep looking.
Sister Martin is more of an English teacher than a religion teacher. She makes you write a 2,500-word essay and another even longer essay. It is ridiculously hard for being a Book of Mormon class. Only take this class if you are a really good writer. She also does not explain her assignments well unless you go and ask for help.
This has been the worst class I've ever taken at BYU. It was cool that she doesn't do any tests, but she rains down on you with a few 8+ page papers which she grades vary harshly. In our class statistics only 8 students out of 54 ever got an A on any given assignment. I don't think she ever figured out it was a 2 credit class?.. Don't take!
Dr. Martin is an excellent professor. She teaches the doctrine really well but also makes her lectures spiritual and fun to attend. There were no midterms and no final, but she had us write a research paper and do some other assignments that were graded pretty hard. Overall though, great course, great professor.
Doctor Martin is an amazing teacher! She does not give tests, instead there are a couple long papers. But if you do not procrastinate them then you will be fine with them. She really wants her students to understand the material and her lectures are amazing. She knows what she is talking about and encourages class participation. Take her class!
Outrageous grading scale. According to our class statistics only about 15-20% of the class ended with an A. For a two credit class the workload is insane. Grading criteria is vague. By doing everything her prompts ask you to do, you will get a B. She wants you to WOW her.
I LOVED sister Martin's class. This class is not really focus on the details on the Book of Mormon but the doctrines. Most of times I learned the doctrines I never knew were there. I learned A LOT. So there is no mid-term& final test. 2 essays. You choose your essay topics. Not a hard class if you are willing to work.
Dr. Martin gives excellent lectures BUT she is an extremely harsh grader on the paper and both projects. She expects students to know as much as her on Gospel topics when writing the paper, and she grades like its a writing class. If you want an A you have to blow her out of the water with your Gospel knowledge and research.
Dr. Martin is a great teacher! She encourages participation and her lectures/discussions are really great! I could really feel the Spirit in that class a lot. There are no tests, which is nice, but there are papers instead. Those are difficult to do well on but be descriptive and clear and you'll be fine. Also, you MUST do your scripture study!
Super pretentious & very unhelpful. You need a 95% to get an A. Do NOT take this class. I came in at the end of the semester with a 94.96% so I emailed her to see if I could get any help. In response I received a 5 paragraph essay, from prof. Martin, telling me how prideful and stupid I was for asking. Her grading scale is super tough.
She is willing to help and answer questions. Her lectures are good but usually drag out. She pounds application on you rather than just teaching doctrine and letting you decide what you're going to do with it. A lot of work for a 100 level class and only two credits, but you will learn some cool stuff.
Fabulous. She knows her stuff and cares about every student.
I love love love Sister Martin. She doesn't give too much work, but expects you to read everyday and come to class. She doesn't even give tests, she has two papers and a final project. Pretty easy, but I learned so much at the same time. BEST TEACHER.
Thirty minutes reading daily. About two papers and a major, two week project. (I spent about thirty minutes a day on that project.) Very inspirational lectures; she focuses mainly on doctrine and its personal application, making for a fresh religion class.
Absolutely loved class with her. You need to be totally responsible for your own action but my goodness you get so much from the class! I love the woman! SH knows the doctrine of Christ so well and teaches it clearly. She is direct and respects her students seen if they disagree with her. Very powerful teacher and worked one-on-one with me! 3
Probably one of the most insightful and instructive classes I've ever had. She REALLY knows what she's talking about and really does a good job of applying the scriptures to our lives. Super insightful and very accessible. Has two major projects but no tests. Ten out of ten, would take again if I could.
Sister Martin was a real treat! There are a lot of interesting, open discussions about the material and she really knows her stuff! Super nice and compassionate. The few papers we did have were easy and very subjective and you can gain a lot from them! I am taking another class from her next semester if that says anything.
Loved Sister Martin. No tests, just two big projects and reading your scriptures everyday. The final is a poster board project that details a past project. You are graded on attendance. Very inspiring class, she knows her stuff and is very respectful to comments. Highly recommend taking from her!!
She is the best! One of my favorite classes, always very aware of what students need and willing to go out of the way to help individuals. Just be sure that you read the syllabus carefully because her grading scale is different.
I loved Sister Martin's classes, they were the highlight of my week! She really knows her doctrine and taught in such a way that you could understand it and feel inspired. There are no tests, but it's on you to do the reading otherwise that will greatly damage your grade. She is a tough grader, which was frustrating, but the lectures are worth it.
Every time I go into Dr. Martin's class, I am uplifted. She has amazing insights and a great way of teaching. She doesn't get too involved with how you should study your scriptures, just that you need to be studying which I loved. She doesn't have exams, just projects that invite you to live the Gospel more precisely which is another thing I loved.
She knows her stuff when it comes to the Book of Mormon, yes. But multiple times we talked about speculations that are inappropriate. Does it really matter where the Nephites MIGHT have landed? No. The grading is too hard and if you're sick one day? Forget about that A because attendance and reading are such strict requirements you can't miss once.
Looking for a quality religion class at BYU? Don't sign up for Book of Mormon from Professor Martin. The classes aren't very spiritual or meaningful, the lessons include so many non-official doctrines, and the grading is extremely vague. However, if you're looking for a class that teaches you where the Nephites PROBABLY landed then sign right up.
Very interesting lectures. No final exam but big activity. Daily Scripture reading for 30 min and attendance are required.
She was an ok professor. I didn't think the lectures were that interesting and I felt like she had an "I know everything" attitude. She grades pretty hard and I felt like she wasn't open to my way of thinking.
I absolutely loved taking Book of Mormon with Professor Martin! She goes out of her way to learn your name and make you feel included in the lecture. Her discussions are thought provoking and she is always willing to help you outside of class. The main grades are attendance, reading and writing. Do the work (it's not that hard) and you will pass!
Professor Martin is exactly how a religion teacher should be. Show up to class, do a self-change project, and read your scriptures everyday and you will get an A! She has no tests and the purpose of class is for personal growth. At the beginning of the semester she asks what you want to learn and then incorporates that information into her lessons.
I liked how the class was set up. There is no midterm or final, and there aren't any tests, all the information she presents is applicable to daily life, so that's her focus of the class. If you don't want to read your scriptures for 30 minutes a day, though, don't take this class, it's a huge part of the final grade. No grade curving or ex credit
WORST TEACHER EVER!! hardest grader ever. dont take her
interesting class and lectures. hard grader. If you're looking for an A, dont take her. hardest assignments ever. I regret taking her class
Sister Martin is awesome! I don't know why there are so many negatives scores on here! I have taken two classes from her and both were awesome! This is exactly what a religion class should be! all you have to do is study every day for 30 min (its a big part of your grade), write 2 easy papers, and a change poster instead of a final. Seriously great
nice lectures, worst grader!! dont take her for an A!!
I've taken ALL of Sister Martin's classes and gotten an A in all of them. Almost all of your points come from attendance and scripture study, which you keep track of. No tests. The final wasn't a test, we just analyzed other people's projects. There are a few projects, but she outlines exactly how to get an A
I loved Sister Martin. She grades your papers and projects pretty hard. But I felt the spirit every class and learned a lot about the Savior, but also about myself. I would definitely recommend Sister Martin every time. She doesn't have a single test or quiz.
Dr. Martin almost seems overqualified to teach a Book of Mormon class. She is incredibly educated and I loved getting to see the scriptures from an actual historian's perspective. No test, just projects that are very doable. Take this class!
I have never felt more cared for by a Professor. Sister Martin is an absolute blessing and truly cares about her students. She takes the time to know your name. There's one big paper and a couple projects. She's extremely clear about her expectations and will take the time to help you so utilize it! Her classes are spiritually uplifting too.
Take this class if: 1) You like difficult assignments that aren't centered on the main material. 2) You don't like tests. 3) You like subjective grading. 4) You like reading multiple pages of instruction for each page of assignment. She's nice and knowledgeable. Some people can jump through the hoops in this class, but others just can't.
She does a good job of creating a discussion based class, focusing more on the doctrine of the book of mormon rather than just memorizing it, as well as gospel applications. She is a very tough grader and will hand out assignments that are extremely rigid and every mistake will cost you a lot of points. Not worth it in my opinion.
Dr Martin is a great person but I wouldn't take a class from her again. On top of classes that matter, I don't need a religion class that's going to make me struggle to get an A. You fill out a log for your own attendance and scripture study(which you have to do every day and is worth 40% of your grade) 2 paper, 1 projects, 2 parts to the final.
Dr. Martin was a very kind teacher. She clearly cared for her students. There was no tests at all!! However, you are meticulously graded on papers and projects. If you are one that does not test very well, then I would highly recommend her!
Dr. Martin is a very nice person and takes the time to get to know her students. She is a tough grader and makes it difficult to get high scores on her assignments. She doesn't have any tests, but her assignments take longer than studying for a test would and your scores are usually lower.
For real this class was tough. For a two credit religion class, it required a lot of my time. The lectures aren't very academic and she is a tough grader. Whether or not you are studying religion, I wouldn't recommend this class. This sounds harsh, but Jan Martin embodies everything wrong with religion classes at BYU: too hard & not a lot of value.
Dr. Martin had wonderful lectures and group discussions. Papers and projects were different. She was very strict on grading, and was not open to talk about them after. Somehow a mistake was made in my study log, but she wouldn't even look at my study journal to confirm the mistake. Lectures are good, but not worth it to take from her.
TAKE THIS CLASS! No tests, just 3 projects and a simple paper. Follow her grading criteria exactly and read your BOM every night and you will get an A. Lectures are phenomenal - she explains things that are typically very confusing in such a simple manner and takes the time to learn your names & caters lessons to what the class has questions about.
I loved her class. The homework was never busy work and really helped me spiritually. She gave amazing lectures and really invited the spirit. She is an interesting, well-educated person and had great insights.
I absolutely LOVED Dr. Martin. he doesn't do tests, so if you do not do well in the testing center and enjoy personal application projects, her class is seriously the best. She is VERY specific about what she wants and is always open to talk about any questions you have on assignments. Doing scripture study every day counts for half of your grade!
Honestly, Sister Martin is absolutely amazing. When I took the class, she didn't give us tests, but instead had us work on projects that would help us individually. Her class changed me so much and got me into the habit of scripture study. So inspirational, and I felt like it was easy to get an A.
Sister Martin was the sweetest! She really cares about her students and is always asking if she needs to clarify anything. If you aren't the best test taker, this class is for you. You have a few papers and larger projects that replace traditional tests. Half of your grade is just reading your BoM daily. Attendance is big too, you shouldn't skip.
Dr. Martin is one of the most caring professors I've met! She makes sure to get know the names of all her students and talks to each of them, and ties in principles to our lives in meaningful ways. There are no tests, but 3 or 4 projects that require a LOT of work. Clear grading criteria though, so if you follow that, you'll be fine!
The lectures were interesting enough, and Dr. Martin knew what she was talking about. However, for a 2 credit hour, required general credit, there was WAY too much homework. There are 3 major projects, 2 of them were 15 page long papers. The rest of your grade comes from attendance, and reading the BOM every day + writing in your journal.
Second time taking a class from Professor Martin because her lectures are actually valuable, but this time I felt cared for. Her class is hard, requiring reading for 30 mins EVERY day as a HUGE part of your grade. She comes off as rigid and strict when it comes to grades, but I came to learn she is really accommodating if you are having trouble.
Sister Martin is truly aware of her students and takes great care to give them the help and advice that they need. There is a lot of writing and scripture study involved in this class, but there are no tests. Work hard and do well on the projects, and you will have a very positive experience.
Prof Martin is incredibly meticulous in everything she does -- from the clarity of her grading criteria to the care she takes in remembering your name. However, this class requires a heck ton of effort and definitely encourages active, daily repentance. I would not take it if I were looking for an easy A, but I would do it again to be changed!
SHE IS THE BEST RELIGION PROFESSOR EVER. I love Sister Martin. No tests, which is amazing. She cares about enhancing your spirituality more than quizzing you on obscure topics.
Sister Martin is the best professor ever. She provides such good insight into the Book of Mormon and provides you with such good study tips for becoming a good scriptorian. She cares about all her students and does not just preach to you but makes the room have such a good spirit. I've learned how to actually read and learn from the scriptures.
She is really awesome. No tests and only a couple assignments, but those aren't too bad. Most of the grade comes from your scripture reading and attendance. You definitely can't skip class. I liked her course enough that I referred all of my friends and a bunch of us took New Testament from her as well. Everyone had a great experience.
Great professor, really knows the scriptures and is awesome at not grading on random historical details or other insignificant topics. Really focuses on personal testimony growth. Be ready for a few heavy projects, but she is always more than generous with the time-frame allotted for each project, so they are more than doable.
Dr. Martin was a great teacher that I want to take again with her New Testament Class. She is great at explaining the doctrine and the different concepts within the Book of Mormon class. She does assign two projects over the course of the semester which isn't bad if you start early. You need to read the BoM every day for 30 min (no surprises here).
As far as a religion class goes this class was pretty good. Dr. Martin is very knowledgeable and class is interesting. She is a pretty strict grader, even with the rubric you'll get points knocked off just about everything. The projects are pretty labor intensive, but it's not too bad. I would definitely recommend taking from Dr. Martin.
Class was utter nonsense. Really tough grader. Note to professor: you can't be academic about the Book of Mormon the way you can with the bible, bc the historical/archeological/geographical evidence isn't the same. Any theology professor worth their salt will tell you that. You're a glorified seminary teacher. Give your students a break.
Honestly, this professor and this class are SO GOOD, but there are ridiculous amounts of homework. The class consists of two projects and a written final, but the project takes so amazingly long to complete. Even though I love the class it is not worth taking. The amount of work for the outcome is unbelievable. DO NOT TAKE IT!
Professor Martin made this Religion class WAY too hard. Nobody ever got 100's on assignments and her papers were extremely complicated and her grading was very harsh. This class took more time than some 3 credit classes. Take another religion class from someone else and save yourself the trouble.
50% of your grade is 30 min/day of BOM study. There are two huge projects that are far too much work for a 2 cr class. She interrupts students, has a god complex, and grades unreasonably for the 6 assignments that are due during the semester. If you do poorly on one, you're screwed. Does not accommodate. Doesn't prepare you for the final at all.
I was interested in this class due to only one written final and a couple projects. I did not enjoy some of the comments she made in class made it seem like what she said is doctrine and has a huge Godly ego. very uncomfortable to listen to. Better off taking this class from someone else that has test honestly.
There were only a few assignments in the class which she graded extremely harshly. Every class was the same (rehearsed powerpoint, breakout groups). Laughed at students' challenging questions. Had a god complex and a holier-than-thou attitude. If you meet her one on one, you'll realize that she's also very rude, condescending, and talks over you.
I would not recommend taking Dr.Martin. Her classroom is not a good space for asking questions or looking to expand your person testimony growth. She did not respond well to the various levels of scriptural knowledge many students (including myself) were a part of. Steer clear of this teacher if you want a spiritual experience.
I took Tchgs and Doctrine of Book of Mormon from Sister Martin during the summer, and it ended up being my favorite class of the term! I learned so much and felt the Spirit everyday. Daily scripture study. No midterms or exams, just papers/projects. Very specific guidelines, but if you don't procrastinate, they're very doable. Definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed Dr. Martin's teaching style. She made an effort to engage with us before class. Her lectures present fascinating information and it's obvious that she loves what she teaches. Her grading is very particular, so read all the fine print. She expects you to show up for the class and the work attached with it.
Dr. Martin is an amazing professor. I enjoyed her class and always left feeling enlightened. She gave insight into the possible culture of the Nephites. There are two projects instead of midterms and one written final. As long as you participate in class and don't procrastinate, they won't be too hard.
Dr. Martin is a knowledgeable, relatable, and open-minded teacher. She really knows her stuff, and I learned something new in every single class. She truly promotes a great learning environment where everyone feels comfortable to share. Her assignments are also awesome and helped me improve my habits.
She doesn't allow technology in her classroom, probably causes shes cosplaying as a elementary school teacher and treats you like kids. 0/10 wouldn't recommend.
I was originally scared to take this class, because of the reviews on Rate my Professor, but I am so glad I did. The classes were well structured and engaging. Professor Martin can come across as harsh, but it is obvious she cares about the success of her students. If you stay on top of the assignments and do the extra credit it is an easy A.
I enjoyed my class with Prof. Martin. She grades pretty harshly on the papers, so give yourself lots of time to write, and edit them. But, she has extra credit opportunities and wants you to get a good grade. I found it so interesting how much knowledge of the BOM she has and I learned a lot. I felt the spirit the entire time in her classroom.
Dr. Martin was a really good professor. She makes everyone feel heard. There were 2 papers you need to write that take some time but she gives you extra credit opportunities. The only down side (if you can even call it a downside) is no technology in class. But her lectures were really good.
Professor Martin is amazing. I absolutely love her lectures. The issues are her assignments. They are very long, tedious, and too much work for a religion class. This is the 5th religion class I've taken and the workload and her expectations are more tedious than any professor. Nice lady, beast of a class. Stay away.
I would definitely take a course from Professor Martin again. Each class felt like stepping into a piece of heaven. She shares personal experiences and teaches with the spirit. Many times her lectures are led to different topics based on student needs. I absolutely loved her.
This class was SO much more than glorified seminary. There is a great balance between discussing historical context and personal application and I felt edified in both. She tailors her lectures to student needs and welcomes questions. She is particular about how assignments are done but as long as you follow her clear instructions it's fine
Please do not take this class. Not a spiritual experience. Dr. Martin adds her feminist political views into almost every lesson. Additionally, Dr. Martin has a habit of making those who ask questions feel stupid for asking them. This class and professor is an incredible example of what is wrong with the current BYU religion class experience.
I took REL A 275 from Dr. Martin and it's been amazing for the most part. I love coming to class and how she structures her lessons off of what her students want to learn. She always answers questions and she knows sooo much about the scriptures and doctrine and everything. She has answered some questions that I've had for years.
Honestly this professor was fine and that's about it. Great NT history but not very spiritual. I would try to find another professor. I honestly just didn't get along with her too well but in addition to that there are two midterm papers and not a single person got a hundred percent on either and one took me 24 hours to complete.
Dr. Martin was great! She knows SO much about the New Testament.
Doctor Martin is amazing. I did not have a testimony of the Book of Mormon before taking her class, and now I absolutely do. The projects are long and a bit difficult, but it is worth it because her lectures are so well done. Please take this class.
Dr. Martin gave some good lectures but she was hardly ever understanding and at times seemed to make students feel stupid for asking questions. Her projects are intense! She is very strict and grades REALLY harshly. At times she seemed to be making arguments that could very easily be misunderstood by students to be contradicting doctrine.
She dishonestly made the class easy UNTIL THE ADD DROP DEADLINE HAD PASSED!!! The lectures were decent, but the sheer amount of homework was absolutely ridiculous for a two credit class. In order to get full points it was required that you read a TON, write 2 MASSIVE papers, which she graded super harshly, and attend literally every lecture.
Took her BOM Doctrine class in the spring and the workload was relatively easy and small for being during the spring, but reasonable for a 2 credit class. She is very insightful and detailed in her lectures and genuinely cares about our success and that we're understanding everything. She's also very knowledgeable and can answer any question.
This professor made living the gospel feel like homework instead of trying to become closer to Christ.
She made us do an assignment where we had to repent of something for two weeks and tell her about it in great detail including our journal entries. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I don' t think she should be allowed to require this assignment. I am leaving this comment to warn other students, please do yourself a favor, don't take it
Would not recommend. All of her lectures include her raging feminist views. She intrudes on personal privacy for assignments, like her repentance project, where you must share a past sin and the repentance process you went through, in order to receive any credit. Very uncomfy vibes. Also a harsh grader. Ask questions you'll feel dumb for asking.Nah
She is a fantastic professor, and will absolutely teach you an incredible amount. She has fantastic lectures and is extremely well spoken. However, this class is insanely hard. For a 2 credit class, you will likely be doing around 5-6 hours of work a week. It is so, SO intense with work, and she is very strict grader.
AMAZING class but when she says you have a month to do an assignment, do the assignment.
By far my least favorite religion class I've taken. Read all the negative reviews and that was my experience with her. There are two massive papers, one of mine ended up being 17 pages of diligent work and she still graded it harshly. The repentance project feels way too personal, requiring behavioral goals and journals. Degrading, in a word.
Dr. Martin was such a great professor! I always looked forward to going to her classes. Though you have 30 minutes of scripture study a day that you have to log, which can be time-consuming, it also made me study the scriptures more, which was nice. The projects also took forever, but unlike other people, I actually liked the repentance project.
I learned a lot from this class, but Dr. Martin did not make it enjoyable. Her attendance policy was unreasonable. She will not excuse attendance for any emergencies at all. There were some extra credit opportunities, but the projects take forever and she does not grade them generously.
Everything she taught was with a feminist skewed world view. She distorted the doctrine and made the class extremely difficult. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. DID NOT HELP ME GET CLOSER TO CHRIST.
Prof. Martin's class was challenging but rewarding. While strict on assignments, she welcomes questions and tailors lectures to student needs. I found unstuck AI and the textbook helpful for study prep. Overall, an engaging class that deepened my understanding.
Professor Martin gives her all and is kind and respectful. She has high expectations and high love. She was my UNIV 101 professor, and I highly respect her and would take a class from her again.
This class really isn't that bad. You choose the topic for the Repentance Project, so it's as invasive as you choose it to be. Your grade is dependent mostly on two mid-term projects that are lots of work, but otherwise the workload is very light. Just follow the instructions! The lectures can be cool, but Dr. Martin definitely isn't for everyone.
Dr. Martin is the worst professor I've had at BYU. Every single thing she taught was skewed by her anti male feminist world view. She would give one (of many) interpretations and teach it as though it was the only correct way to read it. She consistently taught her views as doctrine. DO NOT TAKE. DID NOT BRING ME CLOSER TO CHRIST.
She is very scholarly and really knows her stuff, she helps you look at things more than just surface level. But she's kind of intense. Sometimes she graded more on grammar than content, even though it's not an English class. She also has two really big projects that take a ton of work and time to complete. Not the workload of a two credit class
Dr Martin is a great person and cares about the gospel a lot. Her class is heavily graded on attendance, so if you don't think you can make it to most of the classes do not take her class. There were two HUGE assignments in the middle of the semester that were really time consuming. She is fine but not the best religion class ive taken.
insanely hard for a 2 credits class.
If you come to class, study your scriptures and do the assignments, getting an A is easy. If you slack she is unforgiving. The class material was fascinating and engaging.
Took for REL A 275 Extremely tough grader. She docs points for the craziest things. I don't think its possible to get 100 on an assignment. There were 2 midterms which were an insane amount of work. Like both were 14 pages each for me. 30 min of reading the BOM everyday She also made people feel very dumb when commenting in class. cool lectures tho
Take someone else! Class structure was over the top, and has zero trust in her students. Very out of touch. Worst professor I've had at BYU.
Way to difficult for a two credit religion class. Dr. Martin is ruthless with her grading and the final was a headache. Her attendance policy is unforgiving and unreasonable.
