Amusing, brings candy to class, plays music. Decent grading.

SOOOO Copacetic
alright you guys
Awesome Guy!!!!! Best Professor on Campus. look forward to his class
He loves the Beatles and the Stones....and Rugby Shirts
most enjoyable prof I've had, unique guy...plays music, brings us food..he is great! Does claim to be retiring every quarter... alright you guys , Can I get it quiet please? , Is that copasetic with everyone?
Palmer is a funny guy, but he is very particular about small things. Make sure when you take the tests you round digits exactly how he tells you to. One mistake on a test can give you a D. For the tests read the side boxes in the book especially.
Excellent prof to take econ from...very funny! Stories about other econ prof's makes palmer an angel!!!
I am really happy that I had him as my professor, because I feel like I learned a lot. Some people just won't do well in his class because of the format, though, so if a lot of (simple) math and graphing scare you, take another professor's class.
I too am confused by the retiring comments, but if that's my biggest confusion in a class, that's great. Some people just arent' the type of learners that will benefit from his class. Music can be odd at times, but makes for easy atmosphere
man, i love this class. it's hard, but i like the prof. he blasts music at the beginning and end of every class -- and it's GOOD music! says copasetic and alright.... you guys a little too much, but hey, everyone has quirks. highly reccommended!

Palmer freaking ROCKS and that's all there is to it. If you take Econ 103 from anyone else you will hate yourself for it. I hesitate to talk specifically about his teaching practices because they must be seen to be fully appreciated.

is everyone copasetic with that?
Palmer rocks!! i lucked out and got him as a freshman and everyone envied me. i was in his last class of economics that he taught, i feel so special. take him if you can do calculations and graph
He was the coolest teacher. I loved his class.
incredibly easy classes, funny music at the beginning, he brings pizza and candy on occasion, and he's always available for help, which you shouldn't need because the class is that easy. taking econ from anyone else would be dumb.
this class SUCKED!
His class was only good if you LOVED math. If you have to take this class, I suggest taking it with someone who does more comprehensive teaching rather than application. It was all graph work!
If you go to class you will do well. If not you might struggle
This guy is the worest teacher ever! He is so old and his class is so disorganzied and he brags about how he fails 25% of every class he teaches! He also gives horrible notes and moves really fast, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM!!!!
He is retired but teaches this class occasionally. He is funny and his class deals with doing more math than reading so if you are good atmath, this is the class to take. I love this class and if you get the chance to take it, do it
I took palmer b/c i heard he was easy.... his class is all math with a bunch of notes.... and his tests seem to be harder than you expect... overall though nothing terrible but not as easy as talked about by others
Don't go into this class thinking it will be easy. That's what everyone told me as a freshman and they were wrong. You can do good in the class, but it takes a lot of effort. Just warning you, don't trust the hype!
He goes through the problems way too quickly and speeds through everything so you don't even know if you are comprehending anything b/c he is going too fast. I'm paying for 2 tutors to get through this class.
"Alright you guys", Palmer is a great professor. You have to be a lazy bum to not get an A (or even a B) in this class. This class is very easy and a high school graduate should be able to do the math. If you go to every class, take all the notes, and do all the homework then you will be fine.
What a weirdo
I only went to class half the time, but as long as I did the homework, I kept up with it. Sometimes he goes through problems pretty fast, but they're not hard. I studied for a couple of hours the night before the test and I read the chapters. Tests are easy.
I found his class to be really easy, but some of my friends struggled. Most of the class just focuses on graphing. He is very funny and a nice guy. I'd definately reccomend this class.
If you feel like being really entertained in a lecture class, take this guy. He's weird but he doesn't talk over your head. If you don't find eccentric profs amusing at all, then avoid him. Copasetic?
Palmer is great. wish he were still teaching full time. he's such a fun old guy, if you have a heart, you'll love Jan. Tests are just like the homeworks, so just be copesetic with those and you'll do fine.
Palmer's the man. He won't take any disrespect during class though - no cell phones, headphones or talking. Otherwise, it's easy as long as you take the notes and do the worksheets. Are we all copasetic with my analysis?
Palmer was a great professor. If you like graphs alot, this class is perfect for you. His tests were really easy. Basically in order to get an A on a test, you memorize the graphs, look at the notes for about 20 minutes, and memorize all the definitions on the outside edge of the book pgs. If you miss a test or 4, you can make it up on the final.
Palmer made ECON 103 my favorite class this quarter. He was a really interesting guy and kept your attention in class for the most part. Just make sure you your homework and memorize definitions, and you should have no problem getting an A. Is everyone...copasetic...with this? Is this...alright with everybody?
Like he says, his class either works for you or it doesn't. He presents the material very clear, 4 optional tests and the required final are all he expects of you. Class is a lot of graphing and work, but you will get a lot out of it.
His class is just differnt, I can honestly say that i learned alot about Econ but I stil failed the test. I learned but I didnt pass. He is an ok teacher. When he explains new information he does it quick and doesnt give the opportunity for others to catch or do the information. but ok teacher
Guy is a wacko. He goes at a blazing pace and selects the most random questions from the book, otherwise you don't even need it. He is nice though but I wouldn't reccomend.
is everyone copasetic?
Goes quick, but if you attend class you should understand everything! I would reccomend it! And don't talk he will hawk you down during lectures!
AVOID at all costs! This guy is CRAZY! He cannot teach, he blares opera music at you, and if you ask him a question, he will yell at you, say something arrogant and cocky, or not help you at all. Very rude, thinks too highly of himself. Picks obscure things to test on. Terrible.
He is crazy! He always plays really loud music before class. The work is easy but you have to practice it. It is nice cause you can drop one test. Make sure you read the book the multiple choice are hard and EVERY question is worth 4 points so you cant miss hardly any!
After about a week of me not understanding a word he was saying in class, I politely emailed him asking recommendations for tutors. He replied: "Its impossible to find a tutor" THATS ALL! He didn't even sign the email. This man is not only rude, but as you can see unhelpful. I dropped after four weeks. GET SOMEONE ELSE!
Never even responded to my e-mails. There are SI but don't expect him to help you. He assings a TON of homework, but DO IT because I iggnored it for a few weeks and regreted it when I failed two tests despite studying like crazy. You do get to drop a test and he told my class if you did really well on the final he'd boost your grade up a letter.
Palmer is a great teacher! if you go to class and do your homework he assigns you, you wont have any trouble getting an A.
the key to this class is to go to class DO the homework and dont take any tests but the final...its really easy since he tells u EXACTLY what is on it. I got an A by doing that
Very fun and crazy prof. You will either like him or hate him. His exams were very easy, provided you do the homework, and actually read the book. If you do that, you can easily get an A.
He is fun in class but he can also be a jerk. DO THE HOMEWORK and you will get a good grade. The tests are exactly like the homework & buying the book is a waste of money. You dont have to turn in a test if you dont want to even after taking it, so if you think you did bad dont turn it in bc the final is easy and it replaces you empty test grades.
Do the packet, study!! You will most likely have to work hard for a C
Palmer is the man. all you gotta do is be copasethic with what he says. Ceteris Paribus.
Okay, this class is SOOO easy. All you need to do is do the homework packets. That's it. The tests are an exact replica of the homework. The multiple choice questions are a little harder, but if you don't want to read the book just study the definitions on the side of the pages. I got an A, and come final time, all I had to do was get a 64.
He is an a**. He is very unfair on tests and goes through information very quickly. He would tell one class what to study for the test and wouldnt tell ours. Very unfair and not helpful.
Pretty cool guy. Plays some cheesy music and really loud but it's not too bad. As long as you do the homework (which is a lot) you'll do fine on the tests. The only thing that really got me is that he puts questions from the book that he never goes over.
It's a 'weeding' out class. SI is VERY helpful. Alot of HW but optional, but it helps you 110% on the tests. The tests aren't bad. There are some questions from the book that usually throw me off, but if you do well on the problems, you'll get a B on the test. Nice Guy!
Palmer is awesome, but be careful... don't talk or you WILL get kicked out of class. Kinda funny but embarassing
Oh man. This guy makes me laugh. Like the others said, do the homework, I didn't find it to be that hard. Just as long as you go to class when there are tests and 3/4 days a week you'll be fine. Pretty cool dude.
Palmer is a nice guy and says some entertaining stuff sometimes. The class is pretty easy you just have to do the homework.
Ahw Palmer is so awesome!! Don't talk in class or he will get pissed off and kick you out. He goes through material kinda quick but goes over it so many times that it becomes easy. I think it is a fun class and he's a great teacher!!
Good teacher. Not too hard...Moves fast so if you get lost in class don't get flustered just try to catch up. Don't ever miss class! Will curve somewhat so that there are as many A's as F's. You pretty much get to make up what you want on the final. He takes off for rounding so LEARN HOW HE DOES IT and you'll be fine. I'd recommend him.
This is a very enthusiastic and funny professor! He blares music at the beginning of class to really wake everyone up! Very fun and not that difficult. Just go to class and do the workbook. He also drops your lowest exam grade. Don't talk, use a cell phone, or IPOD because he WILL through you out! It is kina funny though!
to pass this class all you have to do is go over the case studies in the book, go over some of the homework pages before the test, and go to most classes, if u do this you will get an A, plus he makes class fun, and you should learn the word "copasetic" since he says this every 4 sentences
My favorite teacher. He was pretty funny. Drops your lowest test grade. I only took one of his optional tests and got a B because i missed almost all of the questions from the book that i didn't read. I skipped the next three tests and got an A on the final. Very copacetic teacher.
the worst class ever.. drop it now if you don't need it. first class i have ever failed in my life.
Public Policy Economics with Jan is maybe the best class I've taken at OU. He's helpful and appreciates student opinion and input. Don't take this class if you don't like writing; there are no tests, but a 5 page paper is due every week. Attendance isn't taken, but there are generally in-class assignments, so make sure you don't skip too much.
the worst class ever... drop it now if you don't need it. first class i have ever failed in my life.
omgg hilarious and SO EASY. all you have to do is look over the homeworks and you'll get an A on the test. I got a C last quarter in 103 then i took him for 104 and i got an A !
Hes pretty ok. He is funny which makes the class a little more interesting. But his tests are really short, so if you miss more than a few then you are in trouble. The math part is cake but he puts multiple choice on the test is almost to impossible, even if you do read the book/notes.
A great teacher! He will tell u exactly all problems in test if u attend classes frequently.
Everyone loves him, but I don't really see why. I took his class thinking he was a good teacher, but by the end of the course I had to teach myself the material. His tests are harder than you think they're going to be especially the multiple choice.
Funny, interesting teacher. Though attendance isn't mandatory, you'll fall behind without the notes and graphs. At first you won't think you need the book, but he bases most of his multiple choice around specific details in the book. The math isn't hard, it's the definitions and multiple choice that'll screw you up on tests. Nice guy though!
He gives a lot of homework and the course content is not easy, but if you go to class and actually do the homework, it is not hard to get an A.
Easy class, pretty chill guy, awsome music, only take at most two tests because the exam was extremely easy. TAKE HIM for econ 103 im mad he is not teaching 104
He is the man. His class is easy as long as you go to class. Don't listen to the other people, and take ALL tests. He drops your lowest one and they aren't even hard as long as you go to class and read a little of the book.If you do well on those you dont need to study much for the final cuz its pretty easy and very similar to the tests. Take him.
Is everyone copesthetic with this answer?
The man! Go to class and read the book before tests. He's not tough. Funny guy and he will make sure that everyone is COPASETIC after doing problems.
Awesome!
Really great. Probably one of the best I have had yet; the class is easy as long as you go to class and keep up skimming in the book. Sometimes multiple choice is tough but the problems are cake as long as you do the Aplia. Music adds a nice touch as well!!
By far one of the best teachers I have had yet. Palmer teaches everything clearly, and goes over it several times to make sure you understand it. he plays music in the morning to wake you up. as long as you do the homework and show up for class its an easy A
AMAZING teacher! he is by far one of the best at OU. he repeats himself so everyone can understand, and even drops the lowest test grade. as long as you do your homework and somewhat study for the tests, it is an easy A.
Funniest man alive! The tests are super easy.. make sure you dont talk in class or else he will get ya!
I took Jan Palmer's class in 1991 and just decided to check him out on RMP.com for the heck of it. Glad to hear he is still a beloved prof at OU! To this day I can't hear "Here Comes the Sun" without thinking of him! I loved his class.
He is a really good teacher. I have friends in other Econ 103 classes, that are struggling with the class. He is a really good teacher, he uses Aplia, which is an online form of homework..if you do that and pay attention to class..it's super easy. If you have the chance to take it with Palmer, I definately would. It's not a bad class at all.
Jan Palmer is great. As long as you go to class everyday and do the homework each night you should get an A. Reading the book will help for a few multiple choice questions, but you don't have to do it.
Go to class, copy notes he writes down and do aplia homework. easy a. and i actually enjoyed going to class. don't get caught with phone or talking, though
Great teacher! Go to class, take notes, do hw, and you will get an A. He gives you all the notes you need, just skim the chapters before tests. He cracks jokes and makes econ tolerable! Take him if you have to take econ 103!!
Palmer is the man. You have to go to class every day, but he'll help you if you have any trouble. You have Aplia homework every night- EASY GRADE. It's foolish not to do the Aplia. 4 Tests including the Final- he drops the lowest of them, and Aplia counts as the 4th test score. He will weight the final as more than 25% if you do well on it.
just go to class. all his multiple choice have to do with the notes he gives in class and he goes over the graphs in class. if you dont go to class, u wont get an a. Its an easy a. just go to class
Jan is the best! Lots of examples, very easy to understand. Share the book with someone else its expensive but needed. Drop one test grade. Homework everynight online but if you do it you'll get an A cause it makes you more then ready for the exams!
such a cute little man. a huge smart-ass, and simply hilarious. makes people feel stupid on the regular. tests aren't too hard if you skim the book and attend class. gives homework EVERY NIGHT M-F online. DON'T skip class or skip Aplia or it will ruin your grade. it's an achievable A if you take notes, do the homework and pay attention.
OHHH JAN PALMER. Don't miss class, don't miss aplia (which is online homework due every night). I never liked or understood econ and I still don't, but after putting a moderate amount of effort in, I got an A. He makes it pretty easy.
So glad to see Jan Palmer is still a favorite--such a wonderful man and professor. Took his 103 class in'95 and 104 in '97. To this day, I cannot listen to "Here Comes The Sun" and not think of his class--and the chocolates he took out of his backpack every morning and laid out on the desk for us to take as we came up to get our worksheets.
Very easy class as long as you attend class each day and take notes. Assigns mandatory Aplia HW every night. Aplia is helpful but will cost you an extra 35 dollars
This class is not bad at all. If you go to class for the most part and do all the aplia it's almost impossible to get an A. Skim over the book and read the definitions and you'll be fine!
Jan Palmer is a hilarious teacher to listen to everyday. No class on Fridays, big class size so no attendence recorded. Online assignments mon-fri nights. Highly recommend taking with a friend, makes homework much easier to do together
Hard class, but if you go to class each day and copy down the notes, you will be fine! Be sure to do the aplia homework as much as possible! Even if you get C's on all the tests and come out with an A in homework...you'll most likely get an A in the class somehow. There is homework everynight however...
A very hard class, you have aplia every night, and the questions on the test all come from the book and are completely random. The teacher is very entertaining and randomly runs up the rows to move people and their stuff.
Palmer was a great teacher! He is so funny and his notes are extremely helpful. The tests are easy besides the multiple choice but there are only a few multiple choice on each test and they come from details in the book. He also gives homework everynight but its online and brings your grade up a lot. Overall, favorite professor so far.
Made econ bearable with jokes and his funny childhood stories. Drops lowest exam and aplia homework is pretty easy and helpful for the exams. Definitely take him if you can!
Everybody kopasetic with my rating?
Easy if you just go to class and do your aplia. Can be pretty funny too.
Awesome teacher. He makes Micro Economics interesting. If you go to class and do the aplia every night you hardly need to study for exams.
great prof. He made class fun and easy as long as you went. Aplia was easy just took time.
prolly the most corky annoying intolerable lil old dude you will ever encounter...if u dont read the book cover to cover and memorize it...then good luck did ok but if u can take someone else. prolly the hardest econ teacher at the university for 103 an 104 good teacher but be ready to work...other prof r much easier
Palmer is an excellent professor. He's a little odd, but very helpful if you have trouble with math. His examples are easy to follow and he encourages people to ask questions. If you want to do well, Palmer will definitely help you. Aplia online homework is worth the time because you get a lot of points from it. He adds 10% to your homework grade.
Long live Jan Palmer, by far the best professor at OU. Everyone copasetic with that?
So I just came back from my last class with Mr Palmer. I am a international student. My friends tell me that most people choose classes using this site so i need to put this on. I just want to say that he is the best professor for economics. Its a challenging course, (thats y we come to college). He is supper funny. If u listen, he will be the best
Funny guy. Great teacher.
Funny Guy. Clear teacher. covers material well. gives lots of grades to boost overall grade. Take him if you can
Palmer is awesome, hilarious guy. Econ is tough, but if you have to do it, take Palmer. Class not mandatory, but you have to go if you want to do well.
Not my favorite class, he messed up a lot on the notes and the tests were pretty hard (I averaged a C). People either love him or hate him.
This class is very easy, I got an A. Go to class everyday, dont miss or you'll be lost! I found class to be very interesting, he knows his stuff. Just copy the notes that he writes and pay attention and you'll be fine. Make sure you read the textbook, if you want an A you have to! He always has multiple choice problems on exams. Take Palmer!
TAKE HIM! You have homework every night, but honestly, it helps. A TON. Don't bother getting the book, I got an 84 on every test and never read anything. Grade based on 3 tests and homework & drops lowest test grade. He has some sort of curve ( I got an 84 on the 2 tests and an 85 for homework but managed an A in the class?) He's crazy, but good.
Good teacher, always has good examples in the notes. Go to class and do the aplia and you will have no problem. He is a little crazy but not to bad.
Best professor at OU by a long shot. Aplia online for homework every night which really helps your grade out. If you know how to do the math part of it, you can easily get a B without even understanding the economics. If you've gotta do 103, do it with Palmer.
One of the most boring and worst classes I've ever had to take. He makes some funny jokes that lighten it up but he taught so boring I couldn't focus. Even when I did listen I was unable to follow what he was saying. His book questions on tests are really hard too. Find an easier professor to get this requirement out of the way
The best professor at OU. He is funny and interesting. If you don't like him its probably because he caught you texting in class. Tests aren't too bad but homework will boost your grade if you do it. Makes it interesting and explains everything very clearly.
He is like really good. Makes sure everyone is Copacetic and gets it. Don't text, eat, talk, don't even breath or you will get kicked out or moved. Do your connect every night and you don't have to worry about studying for test. Make sure you know it.. And you don't really need a tutor cause they will confuse you. If you get lost go to him directly.. And he will make it better!!! HE'S LIKE REALLY REALLY GOOD! Knows his stuff guys!! Best teacher I have had!!!!!
Really funny professor and straight to the point. Throws in a lot of random jokes that make the class entertaining.
Do Connect... Dont Text, or talk, never skip class, and it will be an easy A. Palmer is a smart guy and it is quite entertaining watching others get kicked out.
Great teacher. Really funny. If you have to take Econ 103 or 104 try to take him. Me and my friends try and do impressions of him all the time. If you don't know what the word "copacetic" means before you take him you will learn quickly. Don't text in his class or he will walk up to you and tell you to leave. Do connect and you'll get an A
Tries to be humorous. Easy to follow in class. Hw every night, but it's easy. Tests are mixed with lecture and textbook reading.
In all he's a good professor. He tries to be funny and make you chuckle to keep you interested in the class. Each exam has about 8-10 questions quoted directly from the book...READ THE TEXTBOOK!
I didn't take 1030, so this class has been difficult. He talks to the class like we all are as educated on Econ as he is and it makes it hard to follow. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable but you need to go to EVERY class to get it. do NOT use any technology in class or he will freak out and throw you out instantly, then go right back to teaching.
Exams are based almost exactly off the homework. I took him for 103 my freshmen year and did not do the homework regularly and my grade suffered. I took him for 104 and did the homework and did dramatically better. All you need to do is do the homework. and read the book and you will pass fairly easily. Good guy and means well.
I would not recommend that anybody take this course with this professor. I am not one to ever complain about professors but Palmer has been consistently rude and inconsiderate. He writes notes more quickly than the class can keep up with which creates large gaps in understanding and comprehension. The class is a total headache.
Jan Palmer is the epitome of a tenured professor with flagrant disregard for his students. His notes are disorganized and his handwriting is illegible. His teaching style is archaic and does not reflect the reality that different students learn in different ways.
Palmer has been my best professor thus far. He always made sure students were "copacetic" with the teachings. There was Connect homework everyday, but the math on the exams will be a breeze if you actually do it. His tests asked very specific examples from the book (normally from the yellow box examples), so make sure to know your stuff. Loved it!
Class isn't mandatory but there is connect HW every night, do it and you can probably get a B on every test. Tests are fairly easy except the questions pulled directly from page numbers- impossible to get right
He yells and students and kicks kids out by throwing their backpacks and notebooks out of the room all because he want to have a distraction free environment. His tests are about 1/3 multiple choce that he pulls specifcally form the book which are impossible to prepare for. He is also a extremely rude and unhelp outside of class.
I took this class twice. The first time I was lazy and failed like a lot of these losers below me. The next time, I worked hard, did the homework, went to class, and attended any study sessions I could find, and I got an A. It's not hard, just do the work and stop waiting for everything to be handed to you.
He is a very good teacher and you will have a really good understanding of the course when it's over. He goes slow enough and is clear so that everyone understands. Don't text in class, like seriously I got kicked out for it. Even with that I would say he was one of the best professors I've had. Do the homework, take good notes and read the book.
One of my favorite professors on campus. He is extremely clear with the content and basically gives you the questions that are on the exam. Definitely get the book, he pulls test answers directly from it. Easy class, doesn't let you use phoneslaptops in class, but honestly it is helpful, it makes you pay attention and understand the material.
hes ok. not my favorite professor. he's a good teacher but the material is very confusing
I LOVED Prof. Palmer's class. As long as you do the connect and keep up with him in lectures, its an easy A. He has a very odd sense of humor, which I thought was amusing, but others... not so much. You either love him or you hate him!
Even though there was homework online most days, it was pretty easy and quick to complete. While class was not mandatory, completing the homework is essential in getting a good grade. Dr. Palmer is very friendly and occasionally throws in a story that may or may not be related to the content. WARNING: the word copacetic will be used a lot!
I really enjoyed Palmer's class. No cell phones or it will get thrown across the room by him (and yes he really threw someones phone). Online homework everyday, annoying but very helpful because its the same thing everyday making it easy to remember for tests. Just do your online homework everyday and go to class everyday or you'll fall behind.
Not an easy class. He is pretty clear when he teaches, but on tests 1/3 of It is in the textbook. read the chapters before the test and youll be fine. you have plenty of study material, use it. class is not mandatory, but you should go to pass the tests. Don't use your cell or labtop in class, he gets furious.
Connect homework every night but it's very manageable. He puts all the notes up on connect but they're confusing if you didn't hear the lecture. Don't use cellphones or laptops. He's a great teacher and if you show up and do the connect it's an easy A.
Jan in one word is, crazy. He runs all over the classroom and will not allow any electronic devices, including pagers which no one has. He will kick you out if you leave class twice, so make sure you don't have a full bladder. Homework every night. You wont have a curve so don't ask. Also going in to his office won't help.
Palmer is a pretty funny guy who teaches in a clear and understandable way. His lectures seemed to go by pretty quickly and he does a lot of examples in class which are very helpful. Definitely attend class if you want to understand any of the material. There is homework every night online, but it is manageable and fairly quick.
He is serious when he says that ECON1030 is more like a 3000 level class. You have to go and pay attention to his lectures. If you don't go, good luck trying to catch him during office hours. His lectures are short, sweet and to the point. ABSOLUTELY NO ELECTRONICS ALLOWED. He will literally pull you out of class.
Palmer is an awesome guy, not a bad class if you show up and do homework you should be able to pull a C off easy, homework every night but not too much. No electronics, if people say palmer sucks is most likely because they didn't show up and got bad grades or if they did they were told to put their phones away.
If you know how to draw a line, you can pass his class. There is homework everyday and the problems on the test are very similar. To get an A in the class, you should read the book. Palmer has some good stories and is funny. I enjoyed the class. As long as you can part with your electronics for his class, you'll be good.
Jan is the best at making you laugh! Do NOT let him see you using your phone!!
Really great professor, if you go to class you will understand everything and will do great.
I thought Jan was sooooo funny. I just really liked his sense of humor. As far as the class goes I got an A. His notes are so easy to follow and the test were not hard for me at all.
